"If you think of everything I do as amusing because it sort of dicks over the main AIDA core I make a lot more sense. Besides, it's Chen you should be worried about, he's missing a part in him mind, or soul, or what ever. It is sort of just a big gaping hole and I managed to fill it and keep him glues together. "A hole in the middle? What do you mean? What's wrong with him?" She asks, a single bead of sweat going down the side of her face.

"How should I put it. Think of epitaphs as observers of human emotion which act as a supplements to personality types based on what they are supposed to observe. For example, Lotus has Tarvos because she was missing an important part inside her related to the idea of Tarvos, but it sort of healed kinda. It is like her soul is broken, but there is a patch for it, and Tarvos latches onto that patch. Anon here doesn't have a patch, just a hole. A big one, likely there for years. I am surprised you didn't notice it before, didn't he act really odd at times? Well, odd for a squishy meat suit anyway." He clarifies making Durga turn towards you and stare intently.

"Missing something... hm I don't know maybe..." She mutters eying you intently.

"Well, I'm bored of this conversation now. Ah, say Chen, what exactly do you want to do from here? Do you want to keep collecting info on CC Corp, or do you want to save the lost ones?" Snark asks turning towards you, and while you are not sure you think he seems to have some idea.

I don't think those two are mutually exclusive. We need to find out more about the nature of AIDA, the Epitaphs, and the other stuff the chair to find the root cause of what's making the Lost Ones comatose. Hamelin and CC-corp want to do the same thing to find out how to make a sapient AI by themselves. All we need to do then is find out *why* they want to do so, and then we'll have a good idea of where we should investigate to get some dirt on them. We might even find out a way to keep them from completing such an AI, or some way to cripple them using some hacking stuff.

So saving the Lost Ones takes the highest priority. The rest will probably fall into place.

"In that case I have an idea. Remember how I told you that AIDA are a hive? Apart from me there is only one other AIDA hive in existence in the World. "That guy is pretty strong, plus he is already spreading to different parts of the net, so doing a total purge of his systems would be hard. Which is why I have an idea. If I eat the eight epitaphs I should be able to purge the entirety of the internet of him, and return the lost ones."

"Won't that send them into a coma?" You ask making him shake his head.

"All I have to do is eat a copy of their epitaph really, and it will be enough. You already have the first two, Innis and Skeith. I am certain Lotus would be fine with it if it allowed her to get her sister back. What do you say?" He asks smiling.

"Hold on there you strange, AI, Person." Durga objects. "That seems like it carries a lot of risk. Why should we go through that instead of taking the slow and steady path?" She asks making Snark sigh.

"It is simple. Even if you take the slow and steady path there is no guarantee that you will save anyone. I am offering you a chance to save the civilians, get evidence, and stop anything horrible from happening. You are just too racist to care." He objects crossing his arms.

"Ra- Racist?" Durga takes a step back in shock.

Snark has a pretty good plan but we need to find out what he gets for all this work. Eating the main hive and all the epitaphs would make him pretty powerful. It also seems like Snark is familiar with the main hive or has met parts of it so asking him about it would be helpful.

My processing power took a huge nose dive and I had to hide in some monster data. As for Kite, have I ever given you any reason not to trust me? Certainly I enjoy messing with people, but I am not willingly violent. Some pranks here and there are about the limit of my fun, you know. I willingly admit to enjoy messing with people, and I find you to be fairly fun, but you need me Chen. You are barely being held together by duct tape and good intentions, and I thought we had a partnership going." he frowns thinking it over.

"What is a 'God?' I am afraid I don't possess that level of metaphysical understanding. I understand the idea or the concept, but I can't find any meaningful application of it. Sorry." He answers.

"A lot of my parts got eaten by the main hive, so I can only remember bits and pieces, but it isn't Hamelin. He is infected but no where near bad enough. Just another piece I think." He explains.

"Quite the contrary Chen, the part of you that had the hole was dead. It wasn't even rotting or dying anymore, you were almost totally and completely dead inside. I have no idea what happened in your past, but you were pretty much a walking corpse already. No pain, no sorrow, simply executing your objectives and performing simple niceties you long since forgot the purpose of. I am certain you were professional, and damn good at your work, but only because you forgot how to do anything else." He answers before vanishing in an instant, leaving you feeling a bit shaken up.

It is getting late so you disconnect your M2D and his words leave you a bit shaken. He couldn't be right, you were plenty alive. You look around your bare apartment and your eyes settle on Haruko who is staring at you. "Hey, you alright?" She asks making you blink.

Yeah OP answered some questions on the subject.

Apparently we never took a day off before this, and we have a considerable amount of money saved up because we never spent any of it.

It seems like the only social outlets we really had were Haruko and our sister, and we were distant with them as well.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if we're really going insane, or if we're just having trouble processing actual emotions for the first time in a while.

A single guy living in an impossibly clean place with no entertainment system? That's sort of weird Anon." She answers.

"What was I like before this?" You ask as you think back, not remembering much of your life apart from your missions and moving up in rank.

"That's a weird question. Huh, if I had to say you weren't cold, not like Lotus, but more like you weren't really here. You spent every free moment either working out, or practicing, or doing what ever it took to become the best. I thought it was because you were so girly looking you wanted to prove your masculinity, but still looking back on it, sort of weird. You didn't hit on women, you didn't try to take pointless risks. You were calculating. Also, you hated conjunctions for some reason." She answers.

If Haruko is right about Snark being lonely we could try to match him up with some friends? If he is able to he can come along as a party member on our quest. Hell, Durandal needs friends and they might even balance each other out.

So rereading different threads were we talked to snark I came to a possible conclusion that we played the world version I and fell into the coma thing, are a possible project from CC CORP like a special sleeper, and or the actions in the real world we take like the shooting range ended differently than we remembered(the range mysteriously exploded and they found 3 bodies).

The thread then devolves into a shit storm so you decide to go to sleep. You awaken many hours later to someone shaking you. You turn over and try to ignore them. "Anon, if you don't wake up soon you will miss the tournament award thing. Here, coffee." She offers making your eyes instantly snap awake and grab the cup being offered to you.

After chugging your coffee you offer a silent thanks to what ever strange man thought chewing some beans with goats would be a good idea then turn to look at Haruko and offer another thanks you already drank all your coffee, because you would probably spit it out. Sitting in stocking clad legs and a high cut red one piece type outfit is Haruko. She looks at you before tilting her head, the pair of bunny ears perched atop her head flopping slightly. She is wearing a black bowtie and cuff on her wrists, despite not having sleeves. As she stands up you see there is a piece of round white fluff perched on her well toned backside which only looks nicer thanks to the heels she is wearing.

"What?" She asks seeming confused.

You ponder the curious sight in front of you before raising your coffee cup in salute. "Ah, need some more?" She asks before taking the coffee cup and getting a refill.

While she is gone you offer your thanks to what ever dark god is listening for giving you the present of a coffee bunny. She comes back in and hands you the cup while you are in the middle of constructing a chant to a nameless old one. "You should consider cutting back on the stuff. I mean, it can't be good for you to drink so much of it." She states sitting on the edge of your bed and crossing her legs.

"Bunny." You state making her nod

"Yes Anon. Bunny." She clarifies before leaning back slightly.

"Did... Did Snark finally break me?" You ask making her shake her head.

"Assuming he had, would you really care given the circumstances?" She asks.

After a few moments you have to agree with her. "Be I mad or not, a sexy bunny girl is always welcome in the house of Anon." You state making her laugh.

"Get some clothes on, you got a thing to get to." She tells you before walking out your eyes locked on her hips until she rounds the corner.

You get dressed, use the restroom, and make ready to face the day before walking into your living room and seeing Haruko sitting on a chair and putting polish on her nails. You pause at the feminine act from your normally masculine partner before walking over and sitting across from her. "So why the full out bunny suit? I mean, I just wanted it in a game and here is my god those legs." You state, realizing only afterwords that you made no sense there at the end.

"Well you have had a shit time of it lately, and you seemed really intent on the bunny girl idea so I figured why not? You, uh, you okay?" She asks as you stare at her. "Hands off by the way, this outfit is uncomfortable enough without having to bat away your hands. Double that for the underwear" She explains.

You nod to her, clearly understanding she is serious about not hugging, but you don't care. You stand up and walk over to her, and before she can offer any protest you wrap your arms around her in the most platonic hug you can muster. "Thanks for having my back, partner" You tell her.

She seems to wait for a moment before putting away the nail polish and placing her palm on your chin and pushing up, forcing your neck back. As your neck strains under the pressure you can't help but notice how nice the perfume she is wearing smells, then you note how weird you have become lately. After a small tussle in which she manages to get away from you she finally sits back down and you back across from her. "Sexual harassment is bad Anon." She tells you before resuming her nails, not as bothered as you would have thought from the hug.

After she finishes her nails she blows on them for a few seconds before handing you your M2D and grabbing her own. "We should hurry Alice, we are almost late." She tells you before slipping her own M2D on and starting up the game.

Deciding it is best to ignore it you make your way into the world and find yourself in the Mac Anu Chaos gate room. You decide to run to to the warp portal and find yourself near the boat. You let out a sigh of relief before you feel a sharp fingernail trace the edge of your ear. You let out a small shriek of surprise before spinning around and coming face to face with MANIA. She tilts her head at you before speaking. "Hello Chen."

"Why? Were you waiting for me?" You ask making her tilt her head the other direction.

"Are you going to go onto the ship like that?" She asks, clearly ignoring the question.

"Yeah, I have to get on the boat and go to the island, right? I am cutting it close as is." You tell her making her nod slightly.

"Yes, that is true. However that boat is one of, if not the, last to go to the island. On it are a swarm of NAOO's fans deciding to come last second because their goddess told them to. if you get on as you are they will mod you, likely strip you, and then do unspeakable things to you as their goddess has commanded." She states making you blink.

"That, that won't happen, right?" You ask remembering the fanatic devotion NAOO's fans held for her and shivering.

"You know how NAOO hates you. Do you really think it is so impossible a thought? I even waited just to warn you." She explains.

You scrunch up your face and stare at the boat. It is very possible that NAOO would do that, then say something along the lines of 'Like, that's so horrible! NAOO is super sad.' On the other hand, you sort of have to make your way over now since it could be the last boat.

"Ah, your troubled face is quite lovely." MANIA states pursing her lips and putting a finger to it, momentarily making you think of a kiss.

Hmm. That AIDA-emperor's armor is really different from our current outfit, right? If we have a helmet in our possession that covers Chen's face, Chen could adopt different mannerisms and maybe pass as a different player.

On the other hand, ending a tussle with rabid NAOOO fans would just require convincing her that mugging Chen is a bad idea. As I recall, she doesn't seem to be bright enough to hold a grudge, and she seemed fairly friendly towards Chen. It was just her ultra-white knight thought police that didn't like Chen.

Welp, get dat color pearl and make us a John Doe. Short cropped dark hair, plain features, and change into the AIDA armor, colored to a less awesome and plain grey knight color. Ask Snark if he can change our name from others, he can even pick one for us.

You think things over and decide that it would probably be best to at least try and wear a disguise. You put on the AIDA demon armor and instantly your skin goes pale. Small black cracks run up your neck and onto your cheeks and your braid comes undone, allowing your hair to flow freely. You walk up the gangplank, boldly standing against what ever waves of rabid fandom may come your way. As you step on deck you are approached by Lotus. "Oh, hey Chen. We were getting tired of waiting." She tells you making you look around.

Standing on the boat are Durandal, Lotus, members of her guild, Durga(In the bunny outfit), Areta, Lotus, and some other mooks holding a banner which says 'Congratulations Chen!' You turn to glare at MANIA who stepped on after you and she simply smiles slightly.

"why did you do that?" You ask after a moment of silence.

"You are adorable when troubled." Is all she offers before walking over to a corner of the boat and relaxing.

"What's wrong Chen? You look like you just got punched in the stomach." Lotus asks making you shake your head.

The boat ride is mostly uneventful, Durandal spends his time trying to look anywhere but at Durga, Lotus' guildmates seem to have taken quite a liking to MANIA, while Lotus herself manages to keep Areta mostly out of trouble. Your fans keep running up to you and asking you things, but you can't remember anything significant about what they say apart from being overwhelmed. You look over at the edge of the pot and see, standing in the sunset and framed perfectly by the ocean, is Vividor, somehow having made it to the island under his own means. You stare it him momentarily and he turns to lock eyes with you before performing two pelvic thrusts.

Above you outside the mansion there are sounds of many people laughing and talking.

You place your hands in the small of your back and begin thrusting in response. "Yes, but what I am asking is how did you get here? Tickets are for arena rankers and by special invite only, right?" You ask making him nod.

"I am, how you say, vary vary goo' looking. You see how goo' looking I am?" He asks as his chest is suddenly covered in oil.

"Y-yes but that isn't what I want to-" You start but he puts a finger to your lips.

"Shhh, shhh, shhh, Chen... Look at my abs." he commands as another eagle lands on his arm right next to the first.

"But-" You start but he stares intently at you.

"Look at them!" He commands causing you to unconsciously nod.

"I... I am not sure where to go from here Vividor." You tell him making him nod and stare into the distance.

"Just be accepting it Chen." he tells you as a dolphin jumps over him and lands on the other side of the pier.

You think exploring might seem like a better idea now as you slowly walk away from Vividor, a whole bed of roses petals somehow appearing at his feet. You mingle among the party goers but stop when you hear someone come up behind you.

When she sees you approach she gives a sensual wink to the man before walking over and sagging her shoulders. Her normally tight held gray hair is loose right now, and she is wearing a low cut black dress with elbow gloves of matching color. There is a long slit along the side where a single shapely leg pokes out and you can see she is wearing heels. She is wearing a tasteful pair of diamond earrings and has a few rings on. "Parties are a good place to get contacts for money, but it is seriously exhausting keeping this up all night. Sup dude?" She asks, the difference between her 'work face' and her 'personal' one still fairly shocking.

"Just wondering how you were, and all that stuff. Lotus seems to get along with you despite her being a normally aloof person." You say causing her to shrug.

"Yeah, she's a cool chick I guess. As for the whole AIDA and epitaph thing, I dunno. I mean, maybe it hasn't sunken in yet? Not like I can argue about it being real or something, but this is all pretty heavy, you know?" She asks with a helpless shrug

"Well if you want any help, just let me know. Granted I am only as good as I think I am, since I am pretty much flailing in the dark here." You scratch you head.

She gives a small laugh before smacking you hard on your ass, the armor keeping your well defined backside mostly safe. "Look at you, bein all manly. Don't worry about it, I'm a tough chick if I couldn't handle this then lord knows I couldn't handle my work. Don't worry, I'll talk to you before I shoot up all the drugs and drink myself into a coma." She give a cheeky grin. She looks over to another group of people before raising her hand in a lazy salute. "Got to go network some more, girl's gotta eat." She tells you before talking over, and instantly straightening her back and giving her hips a sensual sway.

You then make your way over to Luna who seems to be talking with a group of other people dressed in all black. She turns to look at you as you approach and runs a gloved hand over your cracked faced. You glance down and notice her dress is different than normal, though with how all of them are elegant and fluttery, it is hard to tell. "I must say, Sir Chen, you look the part of the demon emperor now, don't you? With skin the color of the dead and eyes empty as the damned. I wonder if you seek to walk the same path as I?" She asks amusement touching her voice.

"Just wondering how you enjoy the evening scenery of the Isle of kings. It's a pretty posh place, with all the feasting and expensive manor that seems oddly uninhabited. Perhaps the spirits of the past emperors have taken up residence there?" You offer making her look towards the building.

"Unlikely I fear. Each emperor is only chosen by being slain by the next. Which means the spirits of each emperor haunt the next, slowly building up. To be the king of a palace is to be the one strong enough to withstand the collective grudges of the disquiet dead. I wonder if you can withstand the weight, sir Chen." She muses making you shake your head.

"Lady Luna, I fear I am one of a few people truly able to take on the burden of immeasurable sorrow. Which reminds me, where is Cassius? I wish to thank him for his help when I went to your guild." You tell her.

She points to where he is and you say your goodbyes before walking towards a group of the vampire role-players. In the center of them stands Cassius, his ornate roman armor replaced with well dyed robes held up with a golden clasp. He seems to be sipping a deep red wine which he raises to you in salute. "Well met Chen, champion of the arena. I have not seen such a good fight since the days when I walked in the sun." He tells you, causing you to nod in acceptance of the compliment.

You find her standing around with her guildmates, all of them wearing their arena armor and gear with a small cloth wrapped around their biceps, evidently proud of the fact they are rankers being led by an emperor. She nods to you as you approach. " I am so sorry about the grunty pranking, I had no idea your guild's grunty was allergic to flowers. Additionally we may have to discuss something with you later about snark, but for now let's just enjoy the party." You tell her causing her to nod slightly.

"I was wondering when you were going to tell me why you gave my grunty flowers coated in sneezing powder, but I imagine it was a guild mission. They are strange, I am well aware." She states giving you another nod before you make your way to try and find MANIA.

You find her talking to some guild members you remember seeing at Kestral. She turns to stare at you as you approach and you look her over. She is wearing a modest white dress with just a touch of make up. You clear your throat and remember that you are here for business. "Enjoying the party?" You ask making her tilt her head in thought.

"I have no particularly strong feelings about it either way." She responds.

"I see, look Snark doesn't want to come out right now, do you think it has to do with that Kite guy? Or is there something else here." You ask making her tilt her head the other way.

"I am flattered that you depend on me so much Chen. Addicted, one might say, however I do not always have all the answers. Certainly this place qualifies as a lost ground, and certainly based on evidence Kite appears at lost grounds in responce to the manifestation of AIDA, but I simply can not know." She states with a shrug.

You then go off to find Durga. You find her standing around a staggering number of male players and you wave her over. "If you want, I can wear one too as a show of solidarity." You tell her making her shake her head.

"Nah, it's fine. The thing is too uncomfortable, I don't want to force that on you. You making the rounds?" She asks causing you to nod.

"Yeah, just mingling. I am allowed to mingle, I am the best at mingling." You tell her.

"You suck at parties. Well, if you feel like running away, remember I am right here." She tells you before getting swarmed again, the scarred, muscle bound cat woman clearly popular.

You then decide to find Vividor, he himself wearing a bow-tie and a loincloth which, oddly enough, suits him. he turns to you as you approach, having been making pelvic gyrations at an ice sculpted swan. "Ah, hallo Chen. You be winner, yes? How can I... help you?" He asks adding a bit too much breathy emphasis on the word 'help'.

"Trick to it. First, make thin air give you rose, then throw rose. Simple, no?" He asks before throwing a rose to the ground for emphasis.

You then make your way to a small ledge free from people. You take a deep breath of the night air and let out a sigh, allowing yourself a moment to think. You are caught up in your thoughts when a rough male voice calls out from behind you. "What's wrong?" He asks making you turn.

standing before you in an old fashioned duster and Stetson. You shake your head to the man and look back out to the ocean. "Nothing, just thinking about things is all." You answer.

You turn back around and stare at the man feeling something is very off with him. "Fundamentally it is impossible to know the truth, indeed the idea of there being inevitably one truth is childish. Some times you have to make a deal with the devil himself to discover what reality is, and then have a child discover something very different." He explains making you shake your head.
