You lose a lot of speed, but you gain a fuckton of armor. The gun isn't half bad either, pretty accurate, has nice pen values and decent ROF.

Problem is, you can't turn the turret a full 360 degrees. Your armor counts for almost nothing when you get into those tier 9 matches too. And you have an open-top. So, when arty sees you...well, you'll see.

Actually, there is plenty of strategic usefulness for having lots of the same tank, instead of many different types of tanks.

Let's look at Saunders. All of the tanks they field are some variation of the M4 Sherman Medium Tank. That means all of their tanks have similar performance envelopes- mobility, firepower, protection.

This gives you several advantages- the first is that for a formation to remain coherant, it can only go as fast as it's slowest part. The Russians actually ran into this when they tried to use KVs and T-34s together- either the T-34's were forced to move slower to stay with the KVs, making them an easier target and reducing their ability to maneuver against the enemy, or the formation and it's mutual support is broken up as the T-34s rush forward leaving the better armed and armored KVs behind. This also has the potential effect of giving your opponents two easily defeated forces instead of one overwhelming force.

The other big advantage to a homogenous force is largely command related- It's much easier to command many similar units. You're able to more easily estimate how much of your force you can allocate to certain areas, your relative strength against the enemy, and even how fast you can move units around the battlefield.

Of course, there's also a third advantage and that is logistics- having many of the same or similar types of vehicals means that it's much easier to get parts, train support staff and new crews, not to mention it's usually cheaper to buy parts in bulk.

To be honest, no. Once anything gets a bead on you, you won't be able to take much punishment. You can't out-ROF anyone, either. Plus, the KV-1S always prowl your battlefields. The shells are sort of expensive, too.

(it's not very fast, lightly armoured and doesn't hide as well as smaller TDs), but if you get into the right spot you have a field day.
