Welcome, friends, to the recently renamed micro-nationbuilder. Micro-civilisation, as a title, is more apt, I feel.

So, where shall I begin?

You, my esteemed council members, are charged with guiding our fledgling nation. We are few in number right now, with but a single village at our disposal.

Each meeting, we are currently able to perform a single action - this will be decided by general consensus, though when we develop as a nation we shall be able to accomplish much more.

We are primitive - stone age almost - we have no written language, or metalworking quite yet.

Now, councillors, I have a few questions for you...

What is our fair race, and in what clime does our journey begin?

The maps used are generated and manipulated by my own, custom program. Please use spoiler tags for OOC dicussions/questions

Why of course, insectoids.

Within the heart of the forest a fine village has been constructed, small, but we have plenty of room to grow. Our meagre population is supported by the hunting of meat in the thick vegetation.

What deed should I focus our efforts on, dear Council?
>>
>>24864533

Scouting. Figure out what is around us. Threats, resources, etc.
>>

>>
>>24864853

>>24864873
We have no specific knowledge of fishing... or even fish - though our people are adept predators, and I would forsee no problems harvesting the waters should fish lay within.

We are now building a steady surplus of meat, as our hunters develop their techniques. Snares and the like are now commonplace, and they reap many of the meaty, furry fruits that scamper around so deliciously.

Unfortunately, I also bring you news most foul... our sisters returned from their trip South, having encountered a group of TROLLS! The sisters ignored these foul beasts, sneaking around them most adeptly, and ensuring to locate their fetid pit, which is found slightly to the East on a rocky crag.

We have birthed a new caste. These individuals are stronger than most, and their carapaces withstand much greater punishment than is typical for our species. They are few in number, and further attempts have proven unsuccessful in replicating their creation, instead producing feral sub-cects, driven with some cruel madness and numerous physical afflictions.

There are enough warriors here to produce a single unit of soldiers for our nation, though I'm sure they would make excellent scouts, or even hunters, should the councillors decide so.

These antics have stunted growth and consumed as much food as we caught this round, but upon resuming normal activities the stockpile will continue to grow.

The hive warms with the lengthening days, Summer will soon arrive.
>>
>>24866933

This is a monumental day, not just for our people, but our nation as a whole.

Until we can understand the method for birthing more of this caste, I say we shall not risk them needlessly. Let them take the place of the scouts, defending our borders from invaders from the south, while we send those previously guarding us to the north to find more resources.

>>
>>24867092
>>24867092

I agree with this. We should look for new resources, and try to upgrade our technology and our settlement.
>>
>>24867146
That's the stockpile panel, that's how much of <X> resource we have stockpiled. In this case it's meat, as you discover/harvest more, you'll get more tabs.

Also, ignore the number in the coin, you haven't got wealth/currency yet, my bad. Each food resource provides for 4 citizens, though. You have 3 meat per turn, you can provide for 12 citizen before your meat stockpile starts disappearing, and once that's gone your population will begin to starve.

The scouts have returned!

They reached what appears to be the most Northward reach of the forestland, emerging onto a wide grassland. A few areas were marking with emerging escarpments, with plenty strong stone piercing the earth.

Towards the Western mountains, silvery deposits can be observed running through the cliff faces, but no usable stone.

On the Southern front, all is quiet, and our warriors sit lazily on their abdomens, enjoying the warmth that Summer has brought.
>>
Are there any options to change the size of your game when I have it open? It's causing me quite a few problems
>>
>>24867379

I much prefer the warriors to enjoy themselves versus being overrun, but I want them to remain vigilant. Perhaps encourage them to train amongst themselves, so to not let their natural aptitudes fade.

Immediately begin mining stone and bringing it back down to the Primary Hive Cluster, and begin building fortifications with which to protect our lands.
>>

Trolls so close to our hunting grounds is a bad thing. They are a danger to everyone and hunt in our hunting grounds.

I say if they are as lacking in intelligence as we think they are, we dig deep pits and lure them into them. Then we can let them starve or devise other methods of dealing with them. Then consume them.
Kobold player here. Rabbit pit fighting was my idea. Odd how often digging a pit seems like a good idea to me. ps glad to see that the program is still being worked on.
>>
>>24868096

It seems like public opinion is against me, so just go ahead with the evolution.
>>
>>24868096

I still motion for the forced evolution, but I do have questions.

How likely is it that the Broodmothers will be able to spawn the workers we need? Are there ways to coax them to better refine their progeny, or is it all chance and luck? Once a new form is created, how difficult is it to make more of the same form?

Hey, you. Procastario is calling your name. Get back to AGDG.
>>
>>24868128
Our knowledge is meagre, all things are uncertain to us. Luck certainly played a part in forging the first brood, but perhaps that same fate will be with us this time, or we'll discover new secrets of the process.
>>
>>24868229
Monstrous troll eaters would be fine too.
What's our wing status, do we already have them or will that have to be another forced evolution breed?
>>
>>24868256
We of course have wings, but their functionality has long been lost.
>>
>>24868224
This counts as progress, I'm doing research into FUN.
>>
>>24868229

Go forth with creating a new brood, but gather our wisest drones to learn as much as we can about the Broodmother's birthing processes. We need to understand the methods from which they produce the swarms that nurture our nation.

The most intelligent of our kind gathered, all resources they required were present, and the experimentation began.

Many weeks, and thousands of larvae later, we are no closer to a new brood.

However, a particularly bright individual noted that the larvae themselves have well developed mandibles, unlike those found on a pupated specimen - as you might expect on a being designed solely to devour.

With this knowledge, our biomancers were able to halt the metamorphosis process before the transformation is complete, resulting in ab-creatures with voracious appetites, and incredibly strong mandibles. We can now work both forests and quarries to harvest their resources, if we choose to employ... larval-labour.

In other happenings, our warriors note a welcome lack of Troll activity.

Additionally, prey has been particularly abundant of late, and a bumper catch allowed our works in bioengineering to go on without disrupting our nation's growth.
>>
>>24868527

Excellent! Reward that keen-eyed biomancer in some fashion, and throw a celebration of our newfound prowess. Use these newfound larvae to begin harvesting the wood of our native forests, then the stone in the northern lands.
>>
>>24868556
agreed

I think we should also think about creating another queen for possible expansion, either north near the stone deposits or south towards the silver mountain and river
>>
>>24868598

The queens are hungry, as are these newfound voracious larvae. I think once we reinforce the Primary Hive Cluster, we should increase our food production more. Much growth after this, and our people will starve.
>>
>>24868556
agreed
>>
>>24868627

I find it weird that I'm doing research and planning for a bug-based monster in my game tomorrow while participating in this thread. I've got bugs on the brain tonight.
>>
>>24868627
>>24868598

Expansion is our best bet, but I agree that we need to perhaps use wood and stone to learn how to farm the surrounding areas.
>>
>>24868627
We could start hunting trolls for meat.
>>
>>24868674

If we do expand, it should be to the north with the stone outcroppings. I say fortifying the Primary Hive Cluster comes first, that way the Secondary Hive Cluster can benefit from the knowledge we gained from working the stone.
>>
>>24868665

I literally just caught a yellow jacket queen a couple minutes ago.
>>
>>24868697

That would put our warriors at significant risk, and for now, we cannot make more. Taking them off of patrolling duty and making them hunt less dangerous game is an option I can support, though.
>>
>>24868705

What do you intend to do with her?
>>
Will be calling it a day in a couple of rounds or so, chaps. Though we'll continue another time, naturally.
>>
>>24868728
breed her for harvester larvae obviously
>>
>>24868728

My brother's girlfriend is very allergic, so she's making me kill it. So I'll freeze and pin it.

>>24868527

We should start harvesting wood for buildings, then work our way up from there.
>>
>>24868789

Working wood will most likely be easier than working stone, and it will give us a framework from which to build upon. I second this man's motion.
>>
>>24868527

We're growing very close to growing larger than our food can support.

I think we should certainly look for more food supplies.

I am not opposed to using larva as stone cutters, but I'm not going to suggest it.
>>
>>24868855

Using the larvae to gather resources is the reason we put our biomancers to work in the first place. Gathering building materials and more food should definitely be our next objectives.
>>
>>24868855
agreed
then our larva to cut wood
>>
If we want to hunt Trolls and not put our warriors in danger, I put forward pit traps again. Deep pits, with spikes at the bottom.

Also make sure we mark our traps so no one accidently steps on them except Trolls.
>>
>>24868960

Given that the trolls are likely bigger than us, we could perhaps even make traps that are strong enough to hold us, but break beneath the weight of a troll.
>>
Spawn soldier ants and prepare them to hunt the trolls.

The more intelligent drones are to devise strategies with the hunters on how to hunt/kill bigger and stronger prey; like trolls.
>>
>>24868994
agreed
>>
>>24868994
I like the way you think.
>>
>>24869042
agree but this is not our priority. at the moment we need to focus on being sustainable and have resources coming in before we can do this
>>
>>24869108

This is a wise and salient point, and I agree with it.
>>
So, this round you would like to harvest lumber, and setup traps for the trolls?
>>
>>24869127

I'd rather harvest and build in the same action. If we can't, then go ahead and hunt, but perhaps not trolls until we're ready for war.
>>
>>24869127
Yes, also put that brilliant biomancer to work thinking about how to restore the use of our wings.
>>
>>24869144

Addendum to this: starting hunting and out in the plains, bringing in new sources and varieties of food.
>>
>>24869164
Hunting and foraging, that is.

One of these days, I'll learn to type.
>>
>>24869164
seems like a good idea
>>
>>24869164
>>24869194

I am sure 2 actions would be possible this turn, given our development as a nation.

So; harvesting lumber/traps, and finding new food sources to the North?

Or does the council want something built aside from traps?
>>
>>24869234
If we are foraging to the north we might as well use the lumber to reinforce the hive
>>
>>24869234

My hope was to build up the Primary Hive Cluster with the materials we gathered, so it could better withstand attack. Building traps is one way to do so, I suppose, but walls and studier buildings (if we live aboveground) would also be included.

Either way sisters, it's obvious here that it's either us or the trolls. They're too close to us. I propose for our Scouts to circle the mountains getting back to the cluster from the opposite direction than the one they departed from. This will give us an idea of the trolls numbers and territory.

About how much left do you think you have in you, CA?
>>
>>24869330
This round and another one for good measure.
>>
>>24869296

I agree that for our nation to grow, they cannot continue to live. But I think your haste is misguided: the trolls have not made any offensive movements towards us. For now, we have the warriors defending our southern border, and soon the Primary Hive Cluster will be reinforced from their attacks. Given their raw might, we cannot endure an extended battle with them. Thus, when we begin our assaults, we must be able to win quickly and decisively; right now, we can't do that.

If we unlock the secrets of making more warriors, I'll agree to war plans. For now, we expand where we can and defend what we have.

With workers design to rip trees apart, and an enormity of forest at our antenna-tips, we are capable of harvesting large quantities of lumber very quickly.

The hive is reinforced promptly, using local lumber to circumvent the issue of transport. Sturdy wooden palisades now obscure and protect the entrances to our hive, formed from the largest trees we could fell nearby.

Our food consumption has been outpaced by our growth, and shortly we will need to delve into our food stockpile to prevent starvation amongst our populace.

In the North, our borders have expanded fluidly as small clearings in the forest are created, and we ought to have constant vision upon the plains next round, without further effort required.

In the South, the Soldiers continue to report a lack of troll sightings.
>>
>>24869412
Sister i'm not proposing War yet. I'm proposing Taking a look to their premises, if at all possible not revealing ourselves. When you play the game of Drones, after all, you win or you die. I want all the possible advantages.
>>
>>24869525

Is our species solely carnivorous, or are we omnivorous?
>>
>>24869525
>>24869530
scout the trolls, forage plains.
>>
>>24869530

Stealth and observation I can support. Stress the non-agressive nature of the investigations: our scouts cannot garner the attention of the trolls as they assess their numbers. I fear the trolls will not cease in their assaults once they decide to attack us.

Also, I see what you did there.
>>
>>24869525
Excellent News! I suppose we can focus on food production for now then.
>>
>>24869578
We are omnivores, but truly built to hunt. None among us would CHOOSE to eat plants if we had the choice.
>>
>>24869525

Those trolls have been quite for too long. Send some scouts to determine where they are.

Also, we need to get more food, I would suggest getting some dedicated fishermen at the river.

>>

Scouting seems to be a universally agreed command, as is acquiring more sustenance. One question about direction -

North, or South? It seems unproductive to select both, but that, I suppose, is a third option.
>>
>>24869634
Well it seems like we'll have little choice eventually if we want to mantain a numerous population. Unless we decide we prefer eating trolls and other disgusting endoscheletrical prey, in such case we'd still better develop agriculture to feed those we'll keep as livestock.
>>
>>24869743
North, we want our workforce away from the trolls.
>>
>>24869743

To the north, definitely. More space to explore and hunt, I feel.
>>
>>24869743
South east using the forests and mountains there as "cover" and venturing outside them only occasionally. Let's see how much it takes before we get a troll Ping.

In the North, our foraging goes well, to an extent. A delicious edible plant is discovered in small quantities, in a clearing at the very tip of our border. However, harvesting this on any scale is made very difficult by the lack of insectpower or resources on the frontier, and the slowness of transport between here and the hive.

Our population continues to climb, albeit more steadily now. We dip into our stockpile in order to sate our horde's hunger.

In the South, our soldiers have found a number of troll carcasses, stripped to the bone. Very shortly afterwards, they come across a band of lizardmen - the apparent slayers in this tale. They do not appear aware of our soldier's presence, and seem too well equipped for a simple band of barbarians...

Image not updated, I managed to crash the program prior to saving. Will fix/recreate before next time.
