>As always, you could check Einstein's data at any time: http://pastebin.com/CaAF0yS8

The year is 2573, and you're on an unfamiliar space station several systems away from where you once where. Artificial gravity generators thundered beneath your feet, spinning at incredible, incredible speeds, and you bit into your waffle, cutting it with a fork.

Apocalypse was an artificial intelligence, created by the demiurg.
And, before it was perverted into a mindless fury, it had asked Omnissiah for help the only way it could- somehow connecting with the nexii, and sending a message to you.

You took another bite, thinking.
And then you destroyed it. That space-compression singularity created by two full-speed bubble drives colliding had torn the ship and its computers into its molecular components.
There wasn't anything left.
You stared down at your food.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Damien asked. Oh, right; He, Anna, Max, Kat and Robin were at the table with you. The latter two were constantly trying to annoy eachother with cheek pinches and rib pokes, while Anna was on her personacom, talking to someone, the projector pointed into her eye, giving her a private display of what she was typing.

I got a message earlier today. the AI on the lead ship, he was asking for help...
>>
>>24975487
Eh, we gave him a glorious death.
"Just...thinking."
>>
>>24975487
the AI from the head attacking ship. It sent me a message... I just read it, it was coded, It was asking for help, freedom.

"it somehow sent Omni a message begging for help..." squeeze fork harder

"And then it was perverted by the Void Queen..." Turn the fork in to energy

>>
>>24975487
"I'd say money first, but you would actually do it. It's... Personal."
>>
"I got a message earlier today. I just read it, and..." You said, quietly. "The ship we bubble bombed, it was an AI... he was asking for help."
You squeeze your fork, and the tines bent themselves, twisting for a moment.
"And then it was perverted by the void queen." You continued, quiet enough that Damien couldn't have heard it without Clairsentience.

He didn't say anything- just put a hand on your shoulder and gave it a squeeze.
"Don't worry." He said. "We can put things right, after all of this."
Nobody else seemed to notice, all busy with their own things- Kat trying to stop Robin from pinching her face, for one, and Anna was currently in what looked like a heated argument, based on the way she was typing.

lets do something, make that super light power Armour, keep our mind off things. also give Theta his com.
>>
>>24975656
Tempted to see what Anna is up to, but eavesdropping is rude.

We should go give Theta his new thingamajig and get Robin's back to her. Not being able to communicate with her is sort of a liability.
>>
>>24975656
shall we try the precog and copy\manifest of Apoc plan that was mentioned?
>>
"We'll have to do it soon. We can't let her corrupt more innocent beings."

"Theta!" You call, and he looked up.
You tossed him his personacom.
"A trilobite?" He asked.
You nod.
"I like it!" He said, and clipped it to his neck.

<... The Admiral trusts me.> Damien said. <If I told him about the void queen... And maybe if you were able to talk a councilor into putting their backing on the idea, we might get some help from the military.>

"Robin!" Theta called, and threw something at her. She caught her own personacom, which was a sphere with cat ears. She slipped it into her pocket and waved- during the time that Kat stole the largest bite possible from her cinnimon roll.

<And then there's Anna, your father, and Blackreach...> He continued, and met your eyes for a moment. Then shrugged.

yea lets try we can re create the hard ware necessary with manifestation than look back in time with clairvoyance, and copy his code right after he sent the message ( before void queen mind fuck.). and past it into the manifested hard ware.

Delta can manifest tech, untouchable by psions, he would be very valuable in a fight against the VQ.

but if we deal with ArmaTek first, the VQ will only get stronger.
>>
<Would non-psionic troops even make a difference?> You ask. <It might be dangerous, sending a large armed force straight into the waiting arms of a mind-controlling psion.>
<I can just see flickers of it, and I'm relatively tired, but... With Jilly's help, they should.> He said. <Even moreso if we keep her busy with our own powers. She won't be able to focus.>

You pause a moment.
<Delta can manifest tech, untouchable by psions. He would be very valuable in a fight against the VQ.> You say.
<... Want me to keep an eye out for possible futures where he helps us?>

At the very least, we have a mutual enemy. If VQ beats us, it won't be long before Delta falls before her as well. He might be willing to help out.

>>24976175
we can always ask,and we got something to trade, hell I bet her would love the reclabrater we made.
>>
<I want you to not push yourself..> You say. <You already have so much going on.>

He looked up to Professor Neva.
"Are there isolation chambers on this station?"
"There are only two, but yes." She said. "This was originally going to be the institute, before it was deemed too expensive to keep running during the majority of the time."
"Alright." He said. "See you, Heather."
He gave you a wave.
<Come on.> Damien responded. <What kind of superhero would I be if I listened to reason?>
Then he chuckled, and made his way out of the room.

Finally, Anna snapped her fingers, and turned off her personacom.
"Hey, guess who's Drake, now?" She asked, and grinned. "You'll be getting mail in a bit."

>>
>>24976259
Shit yes.

Let's throw kinetic repulsors into the design as well.
>>
>>24976259
We need to finish Ellie's suit first.
And actually I'd rather work on manifesting all those shield generators to make Surya completely invincible as long as it has power before we work on the weapons.
>>
>>24976284
I'd sort of like to know what that argument was about as well.
>>
"Thanks, Anna." You say. "Anything I should know about beforehand?"
"There might be a few people who want to see your moves. Just tell them to fuck off if you want, as long as they're not jabberwocky." She said.
"A tough sell, or were you arguing about something else?"
"Ferret vouched for you, and Newt did as well, though her vote is just informal. Newt was for it, but some upstart- Adder, I think- was arguing against it. Ox was a hard sell, though."
"Thanks, Anna." You say. "I haven't even started thinking of ideas for massive impractical ship guns yet!"
"Not hard." She said. "Ship-mounted Laser weapons, make a huge ion cannon. More of those crystals, maybe." She said.
"I also need to finish Ellie's suit, first."
"My suit?" Ellie asked, sitting down next to you. "You're making that freerunning suit for me? Yess!"
>>
we should be able to finish it mostly after breakfast. Then we just need the Devourer's help for the organic components.

"I started last night. Anything you want to change about this design before it's too late?"
Aw, Ellie's brother doesn't like us.
>>
>>24976373
"Adder, huh?"

Laugh.

We need more crystals. If we're scaling up the ion lance, it'll need to have an array of them.
>>
>>24976373

<I met Adder already, he has his reasons for not wanting me to join. I don't think I'm suppose to say more than that but he has good intentions.>

"why yes, I'm going to turn you in to a gymnastic terror."
>>
>>24976373
"I had it evacuated to the surya before we left. and assuming he doesn't need all his effort for it, I'll be seeing about getting Bob to help me muscle it up for you too..."
>>
>>24976373
"Well, duh. It'll have mad strength for its weight as well. One of my sons is making the organic muscles for it."
>>
>>24976373
Can we test the crystals some more? We only ever heated them up. Maybe we'll get lucky and discover some catalytic process in which they flip the charges on matter to fabricate anti-matter.
>>
>>24976433
Was Heather a virgin mother?
>>
>>24976391
Why are we using organic muscle, anyway?

Surely synthetic muscle would be more appropriate, and easier to repair in the event of damage.
>>
Delta might be able to make anti-matter with his Matter-Sense. I doubt we would be able to yet. We're all about machines.
>>
>>24976483
That's what I asked. Apparently synthetic muscle is shit.
>>
>>24976483
We're using Devourer b\c apparently his abilities outstrip current synthetic muscle strength.
>>
>>24976471
No, but she didn't have sex to birth either of them.
>>
>>24976471
Not a virgin, but Bob is her child and legally so is Omni.
>>
>>24976471
Damien ruined any chance of that a couple of weeks back.
>>
>>24976489
>>24976494
Fair enough.

I suppose it's possible that artificial organic muscle could be made to be self repairing, but my main concern is the support systems. With no blood, there's no oxygen, so that would need to be bypassed somehow, and if it were self repairing, where would the materials come from? Some sort of spray, maybe?

Devourer has probably accounted for these issues somehow, but I remain skeptical.
>>
>>24976520
pretty sure he has covered all that.
>>
>>24976520

Devourer gave us plans for a suitable support system to keep everything healthy
>>
>>24976520
We built a pump and some other stuff into the suit when he told us what it'd need.
>>
>Mechanical pistons and such are stronger, but significantly heavier than organic/synthetic muscles, and while synthetic muscles are stronger than most organic, Devourer's good at what he does.

<I met Adder already.> You say. <He has his reasons for not wanting me to join. I don't think I'm supposed to say more than that, but he has good intentions.>
<Alright.> Anna said. <I'll take your word for it.>

"I started last night." You say. "Anything you want to change about the design before it's too late?" You ask, and use your personacom to project the design over the table.
"Oooh, this has a grappling hook!" She said. "And a quantum router thingy... I like it!"
"It'll have mad strength for its weight as well." You say. "Devourer is making the organic muscles for it."
"Oooooh." She said, looking down at it. "Can I help make it at all?"
>>
>>24976552
"I don't see why not. All we need to do now is affix the armour, write the software, and have Big D spawn the muscle. So, take your pick on what you want to do."
>>
>>24976552
(recall what she did to her personal comm....flinch visibly)"...you can paint it..."
>>
>>24976552

"not sure to be honest, a lot of it is very technical and parts biology. very advanced biology."

not to sure but we could find her something to help with, maybe the armor plating?
>>
You wince.
"You can... help with the armor plating?" You ask.
"Yes!" She said. "How can I help with the armor?"
"You can paint it..."
Ellie paused for a moment, then giggled
"Yeah, that's probably best. I suck with building things."
>>
>>24976716
"C'mon then! Let's go finish it!"
>>
>>24976716

>heh

"be sure to make it look badass."

"Anna, I finished building that grenade launcher in to my suit, it looks quite good."
>>
Also check to see if the omnitool is recharged yet. We might be able to do some pretty whacky things with recabulators.
>>
>>24976877
We should send our bubble drive design to mom. She used to build them as a job, it'll be interesting to see what she thinks. Come to think of it, did we ever tell her that we made a recabulator?
>>
"Be sure to make it look badass."
"Of course." the pink-haired, frilly-dressed girl said. "I'm the symbol of badassery."
You turn to Anna.
"I finished building that grenade launcher into my suit. It looks quite good."
"Glad to hear it. I'll help you with your current projcet, though." She said. "Not a bad hand with some things."
"C'mon, then!" You say. "Let's go finish it!"
Working in Surya's hangar, with the ship wide open to Devourer's view, you worked on the power suit, with the armor plates set aside. Ellie, wearing your sunglasses so that she could have a display of its appearance, started scribbling on the suit with a stylus, marking it through your personacom. You and Anna were working on the suit proper, getting the HUD and various parts down. It was a good thing that you thought to bring so many supplies into Surya as well as the suit, else you'd have to manifest all the parts, rather than most of them. Your omnitool was recharged, which was incredibly helpful with all of the precision work you used with the support systems. Sadly, the data you'd pushed into it- about the recabulator- had vanished when it lost power.

"Hey." Alex said, coming in. He had Lil'summer mewing on his head, and his shield was entirely down. Gerald was snoozing, sitting on the drone following Alex. He seemed to be alone. "How are you guys doing?"
"Well, though this grappling hook's rewind is being a jerk." Anna said, examining the pulleys and trying to untangle the polycarbon cable.
>>
>>24976925
our TK should be able to be a deft enough touch for that sorta thing. Give Anna a hand.

"Its looking pretty good. We should be able to do a test run pretty soon. Wanna help finish up? You got that auto-disperse under control. A lot of its manifested."
>>
>>24976925
"You gotta do it gently, with a smooth touch, light as air."

Gently wind the cable into place with TK
>>
>>24976925

"aside from the fact that i lost the plans for the 36 inch recabulator and with the current situation we're facing... decent."

"seeing you wear lil'Summer as a hat also helps. a lot." lose our self to fluffy for a moment
>>
>>24976925
>Lose the recab plan
Yeah. Nah.
>>
Rolled 57

>>24976925
Perfect recall the Recabulator plans.
>>
>>24977044
We can just retrocog putting it in and put it in again in exactly the same way.
>>
You untangle the cable with TK, and fed it into place. Then you activated the rewind, and with the sound of a zipper, the pullies span freely, tugging the cable back in.
"Aside from the fact that I lost the plans for the 36 inch recabulator and with the current situation we're facing... decent." You say, and pull Anna to her feet. "We should be able to do a test run pretty soon."
"Once the paintbots finish this, it'll be done." Ellie said, and pressed a button on the drone control computer in the cargo bay. The drones came out, and painted the armor plates.
"You lost the plans for a recab? Ouch." He said.
"I must do this next part, correct?" Devourer asked. He reached out with a tendril, and fed muscle and veins in through the piping you'd added, organic, pulsing parts sprouting out of the ports.
"Actually, I can just retrocog the plans..." You say, and close your eyes.

You reach backward, through time...
And then you had the plans in the forefront of your mind. You spent a minute typing it out on your omnitool, and then it was there. You saved the diagram, and it was done.
Though you still couldn't build it, as it needed the inside components constructed simultaniously with the outside, else the quantum states wouldn't be working properly.

>Field too long!
>>
"Next, you will need to layer it with something loose, like a film." Devourer said. "Inorganic."
You do so, and Devourer spoke again. "It is complete. Now, cut the tendril connecting the suit and myself."
With some snips, Anna cut the tendril, and it didn't even have time to bleed before it dwindled away. The suit pulsed, slightly.
"That's a little creepy." Ellie said.
"It will not look like that when the armor plates are on." Devourer said, as you looked at the organic suit- it looked like muscle layered on tendon, layered on muscle, exactly like you'd planned. "It will be significantly less creepy."
"Oh, okay." Ellie said, and the armor plates were done painting- they were black, with bright pink floral patterns here or there.
>>
>>24977136
"It's a good thing we can paint over that."

Lift all the plates, bolts and fastenings into place, then pick up a bunch of tools and affix them on. All with TK, just like we did with Surya that one time.
>>

>>24977136
"This thing is gonna be fuckin' awesome. Omni even managed to squeeze in a jetpack/jetboot combo, Ellie!"
>>
>>24977136
"Huh. I like it. Does it repair itself?"
"Thanks honey." and give Devvy a hug.
"That is what a mother is supposed to say, right?"
>>
>>24977136
"Pink is well known for it's stealth and camouflage ability, of course."

As deadpan as possible.

"So are the organic elements self repairing? It'd be a little awkward for all parties involved if we had to pull you away to fix it if it were ever damaged."
>>
"Pink. Who would have guessed?" You ask, putting the plates on. "This thing is gonna be awesome. Omni even managed to squeeze in a jetpack/jetboot combo, Ellie!"
"Wait, jetpack?" She asked, and leapt around to the side. There, poking out of the muscles and the film, were long strips of small ion thrusters, pointed downward.
"Ooooh." She said.

You grin, and reach outward... and all of the plates lifted into the air. You clamped them onto the biological parts, and started bolting it all in at once.

Some more time later, the suit was finally ready for its first test. You'd been working for a few hours, and you were starting to get hungry- it was already almost lunch time. How the time had passed...

"Okay, how do I open it?" Ellie asked.
"We need to calibrate it first." Anna said. "Put your thumb on this sensor, so it has your biometric data..."
After calibration, Ellie opened up the suit with her personacom, and climbed into the chest. It folded in, and locked itself in, clamping tight around her.

She wobbled a bit, and then took a step. Then you heard her giggle, and leap backward, doing a full backflip without much preparation.
"This is so cool!" She said.
You turned to Devourer.
"Huh, I like it. Does it repair itself?"
"Not nearly as quickly as I do, and you will need to give it hydrogen and carbon and leave it running, but yes, it will."

>Field too long!
>>
>>24977331
Damien stepped in. He looked... tired. Very tired.
"We need to go." He said. "We can win Delta over, but we have to leave*now*. ArmaTek is on their way to move him, and I don't know where they're taking him."

"What?" Alex asked.
"You have the recabulator design?" Damien asked. "He wants *technology*. But he can't understand things with his psionics unless they exist. If you show him that design, and promise him a sample of the real thing..."
>>
>>24977338

"Thanks Damien... who wants to come with me?"
>>
>>24977338
"Right, let's do this. Prep Surya for launch, someone bring food we can eat on the way."

Wonder if it's worth not bringing our suit and Ion Laser. Wouldn't want him learning those.

>>24977369
I'm not sure if he can learn the Ion Laser, since the crystal isn't technically technology. He probably can though.

"Well, you heard Lord of the Future, king of time, Damien Ruste." You say. "Anyone who wants to come, can."
"I'm worried about my implant. He could jack in, if he tried."
"Put caps in your ports." Damien said. "Heather can manifest them on the way."
"Alright."
"Ooh, ooh, can I come?" Ellie asked.
Damien shrugged.
"I suppose I'm forced to come along." Devourer said. "I do not mind, though I will be incapable of helping."
"I might as well, too." Alex said. "I could demanifest anything he makes, if something goes wrong."
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go." You say, and everyone filed into Surya.
"Wait." Anna said. "Should we take Wyvern instead? That one has weapons."
>>
>>24977507
"Oh. Yeah. We're in for the Wyvern special, then."
>>
>>24977507

"good point, we won't have to needlessly endanger Alex's parents, ArmaTek doesn't need to know they survived."

we'll seem more threatening as a trade off.
>>
>>24977507
"Won't he remember Wyvern, though? Going in with no weapons could be a sign of peace."
>>
"Good point." You say. "We're in for the Wyvern special, then. We won't have to needlessly endanger Alex's parents, too."
"Alright. One pilot, one copilot, and how many else?" Anna asked.
"Me, Alex, and Ellie." Damien said.
"I think we could fit three in the cargo bay." Anna said.
"Alright, let's go." Damien said, and the five of you made your way out of Surya's hanger, to Wyvern. Ellie, still in her suit, was currently testing out her jetpack, flying after the rest of you, and then landed on the Wyvern.
"This is so cool." She said.
"We don't have a lot of time to screw around." Damien said.
"Right! Sorry." She said, and climbed into the cargo bay with Damien and Alex.
You made your way in, leaving your exosuit behind- you didn't want him to learn the forcefield generators quite yet- though you did take the ion laser, just in case. You strapped yourself in, and Anna shot off, out of the hangar.
"Warning, Wyvern, we haven't recieved-" The intercom said.
"Top secret Blackreach business." Damien called.
"I've been reinstated in Blackreach. This is some business relating to that." Anna said. "Confidential."
There was a pause, and the one on the other end of the intercom cleared his throat. "Proceed, Wyvern."
And then you kicked into bubble drive.
>>
>>24977756
"Okay, how long do we have to convince him, Damien? Will we be able to get in and out before ArmaTek arrives?"
>>
>>24977756

let's manifest those caps.
>>
>>24977756
"You sure this isn't another elaborate trap of theirs, seer of the past, present, and future?
>>
>>24977756
Let's patent the recabulator on the way there. That way we can give samples to whoever we want without having to worry about anyone taking credit for them.
>>
>>24977810
Patent it, oh yes.
>>
>>24977810
Patent all our tech, in fact. The exosuit, the ion laser, Surya. Omni's got the forcefields in his company name right?
>>
>>24977834
Use the shell company Omni set up so our name doesn't have to be on it. Because the method of manufacturing is part of the patent, and while we can use "Psionics" as the method, having our actual name on there might let Armatek find our parents.

"Okay, how long do we have to convince him, Damien? Will we be able to get in and out before ArmaTek arrives?"
"We'll be able to get in, but I'm not sure about out." He said. "We'll need to really hurry."
You nod, and then start tugging at Anna's shirt.
"Hey, what is it?" She asked.
You held up a cap for one of her ports.
"Oh."

You lift up the back of her shirt, and carefully slide the caps in over the grand ports in her back. She stretched, and twisted a bit to make sure they didn't pop out. You started work on some patents, and mailing them to Omni to put in your name without actually signing your actual name on it, before you looked back to the open cargo bay door again.
"Are you sure this isn't another elaborate trap of theirs?" You call.
"There's no way they could talk Delta into talking us into things." He responded. "And I'm not as gullible as I was a few weeks ago. Before, I could just see and hear things, but now, I'm getting better at understanding it."
>>
>>24977958
"Good. Excellent."

"What's our ETA, Anna?"
>>
>>24977958

"I really hope Delta doesn't hold a grudge."
>>
>>24977958
"I'd better prepare myself. Might need to talk to that nice satellite that's in orbit again."
>>
"Good." You say. "Excellent. What's our ETA, Anna?"
"A half hour." She said, looking at the display.
"I hope delta doesn't hold a grudge."
"From when me and Alex were on his world?"
You nod.
"Yeah, so do I." She said. "What happened back then was that Alex heard that there was more data about him there, so we landed, copied all the data we could, and bolted. He had a lot of drones there, but only sent two against us. Like we were a pest or something. Hopefully he doesn't hate us for destroying those. And hopefully he doesn't send all of them." She said.

You nod, and close your eyes. "I'd better prepare myself. Might need to talk to that nice satellite that's in orbit again."
"Did you talk to it last time?" Anna asked. "Because I thought we'd be in its logs. That's why we went to demiurg space in the first place, to lose any pursuers. There weren't any, though."
>>
>>24978177
"I did long range technopathy to find where you'd gone. The satellite in orbit keeping tabs on things was quite an agreeable woman, and she didn't report you, or even me."
>>
>>24978177

"you were in there alright, but it only knew you flew towards Demiurg space, with it, we calculated your destination and the rest is history."

"Unless Damien goes back and messes with it!" obvious joke.

"dare i ask how many drones?"
>>
"You were in there alright. But it only knew you flew toward Demiurg space, and with that, we calculated your destination." You say. "Dare I ask how many drones?"
Anna bit her lip for a minute.
"Lots." She said.
"Lots." Damien added.
"... Oh dear." You heard Alex say.

Anna was quiet for a while, staring down at the display.
"Heather." She said. "For what my word is worth, which... probably isn't much for you, now... I'm sorry. For betraying you. If there's anything I could do to make amends, I will. Just... just say the word. The least I can hope for is that we stay friends."
>>
>>24978367
"I've already decided that I'm giving you one chance. Just one."
>>
>>24978431
one more chance
>FTFM
>>
>>24978367

"The best way to make amends with me is to make amends with yourself, first. You're already my friend, as is everyone else in the Institute. But I want you to be better, understand yourself more before we go down that road again, all right? If we even decide that's what we want to do."
>>
>>24978367
Of course we'll be friends.

I'm willing to give us another another shot. One more chance. I'm sorry to say this but cheating again will mean never again.

Can I ask how you've been doing? You mentioned seeing a therapist.
>>
>>24978367
"I'm...well. It's okay. We both agreed that we'd stay friends, and that hasn't changed. I just...need some more time. More time to think."
>>
>>24978367
"Anna, you are my friend, and it's not my forgiveness that you have to be worried about. I'm not mad at you now.

But you have to come to terms with what you want, with why you did it. You need to forgive yourself."
>>
>>24978367
"We're still friends, but I don't understand why you did it, and it sounded like you didn't understand why you did it either. If you want a closer relationship, with anyone really, you need to work out what the problem is and fix it so that it won't just happen again."
>>
>>24978367
"We are friends, silly, I already told you that. But... well, if you're really willing to put in the effort this time, maybe we can give it one more chance."
>>
>>24978367

"You've helped my best friend learn more about himself, you've helped Omni not go insane, we're still friends, that I am sure of."

"work on your issues, sort them out, that is all i ask."
>>
"Anna, you are my friend." You say. "We both agreed that we'd stay friends, and that hasn't changed. But the best way to make amends with me is to make amends with yourself, first. You have to come to terms with what you want, why you did it."
"I know." She said. "That's the sort of thing my therapist has me doing. Being more... introspective, I suppose. It's not easy going, though."
"... Can I ask about how you've been doing? You mentioned seeing a therapist."
"Yeah, I haven't been able to see him in the past few days, but I've been seeing him every other day. Telling him about me and my family and my emotions. He's mostly just... listening, I guess."

Then she frowned. "I'm not very good at opening up to people, I've figured out. Which is why lil'Anna was so strange. She actually talked much more quickly than I thought she would. Was I actually that friendly before blackreach?"
You remember the coldly glaring young girl, arms crossed.

She continued staring down. "I was going to wait to truly apologize until I'd figured myself out, but after those Demiurg attacked... well, I'm not sure I'd have the chance."
>>
>>24978573
"Don't worry. We're *all* going to get through this. And if we don't, I *will* build a time machine and I *will* make sure we do."
>>
>>24978573
I understand, Anna.

I think lil'Anna wasn't really a lil'you. She started as you, but something changed when she looked at the wyvern, and at you.
Or maybe she just trusted you, because you were her?
>>
>>24978573
Hug Anna.

"I'm not planning on dying any time soon, and I'm not planning on letting you or anyone else I care about die any time soon either. You take as much time as you need, and if you want to talk, well I'm a pretty good listener too."
>>
>>24978573
"Don't worry, we'll make it through this. You know why? Because we're all just too damn pretty to die. Universe won't let it happen."
>>
"Anna, I've been upset and angry with you, but I never really stopped feeling the same way about you. That's actually the main reason it's been so hard on my end."
>>
>>24978573
"Not gonna happen. Everybody is coming home after this is all done with, and you'll have your chance to make the most spectacular apology anybody has ever made. I expect fireworks and everything."
>>
>>24978573
"Aww, don't talk like that. Nobody's going to die. And if they do Devourer can still fix it apparently."
Except for those nameless marines nobody cares about. How many did die in that attack?
>>
>>24978668
>Except for those nameless marines nobody cares about. How many did die in that attack?

Don't worry, I'm sure they all had hollow, unfulfilled lives with no caring parents, loved ones or adorable children back home waiting for them.
>>
>>24978573

"I won't hold it against you, Lil'Heather wasn't as i recalled myself either"

Mumble: "thinking one drone is cuter than the other? how? why?"

"until we resolve the Void Queen and ArmaTek... nothing is certain."

"I'm proud of what you're doing, many people would just turn and run instead of accepting and facing their problems."

"Don't worry, we'll make it through this. You know why? Because we're all just too damn pretty to die." You say. "Universe won't let it happen."

Anna just started giggling.
"That explains Devourer. He's the prettiest thing in existence." She said, and the two of you giggled for a bit.
"Everybody is coming home after all this is done with, and you'll have your chance to make the most spectacular apology anybody has ever made. I expect fireworks and everything."
"Like... this?" She asked, and snapped her fingers.

A bead of light shot out, flaring and flickering with light- and then it popped into more sparkles. A miniature firework, crackling and sparking. You grinned at her.
"I think lil'Anna wasn't really a lil'you." You say. "She started as you, but something changed when she looked at the wyvern."
"She became her own person?" Anna asked, and you nodded.
"Interesting." She said. "I wonder if I could do that..."
"I'm proud of what you're doing. Many people would just turn and run instead of accepting and facing their problems."

Anna gave you a Look.
"You ever know me to run from anything?" She asked, and then pulled out of bubble drive. There you were, soaring over the mostly-empty world of kushida, with nothing but the one orbital satellite on the other side of the planet.
"We're outside of its scanners, right now." Anna said. "Blocked by the planet itself. Problem is, it's in geosynchronous orbit above Delta's facility. If it sees us, it might alert Armatek."
>>
>>24978796
Let me try talking to it.

<Hello? Ms. Satellite? We're due to arrive in the system shortly, but it's important you don't tell ArmaTek we're here. We won't cause any trouble, and we'll be gone within the hour. I...can't tell you how important our mission is.>
>>
>>24978796
"When my birthday comes around, I expect lots of fireworks."

<Psst. Hey Mr Satellite. Shhh. Keep it down.>
<Hey, how's it going?>
<We'd like to talk to Delta, but we don't want Armatec knowing, can you do that?>
>>
>>24978796
"I'll see if I can persuade it to not do that."

<Hello again, Satellite. We were wondering if we could visit Delta to talk about my cool new technology without Armatek crashing the party.>

Not that it even matters if they're alerted seeing as they're already coming here.
>>
>>24978796
Awaken satellite, ask nicely if it would ignore us.

Unless it's still awakened from last time, in which case, say hi, make small talk, and then ask it to ignore us.
>>
>>24978796

>they made Delta psion proof it.

<terribly sorry to disturb you Ms. satellite but would you mind keeping our ship off the records while we visit Mr. Delta on planet?>

<If you want anything as compensation, please ask, this is very important.>
>>
>>24978796
<Thank you for helping save my friends, Ms. Satellite.>
>>
I'm interested in asking Delta if he would want empathy. We're fully capable of giving it, as proven by Devourer, and it seems to be something that he lacks.

Of course, it might upset him, so it's best to wait till after we're done here to make that suggestion.
>>
>>24979012
I don't think he lacks it, he's just really bad at it.
>>
>>24979012
He probably has empathy, but he just doesn't care.
We'll find out soon enough.
>>
>>24979012
I figured he was just suffering from pretty serious autism or something.
>>
<Hello? Ms Satellite?>
<Yes, dear?> It asked.
<We're due to arrive in the system shortly, but it's important you don't tell ArmaTek we're here. We won't cause any trouble, and we'll be gone within the hour. I...can't tell you how important our mission is.>
<Oh dear.> The satellite said. <This is a conflicting request. On one end, I have my orders, but on the other... you're asking so sweetly... Well...>
You pouted at the satellite.

And then... Knowledge kicked in.

Your pouting was...
Weaponized Empathy.

A moment later.
<Oh, alright, dear.> She said. <I'll stay quiet, but please, hurry. I don't want to get fired from my new job.>
>>
>>24979070
>Weaponized Empathy.
Holy fuck, that makes so much sense.
>>
>>24979070
>Your pouting was...
>Weaponized Empathy.

This means it might not work on Delta...
Shit.

"We're good to go, Anna."

<What was your old job?>
>>
>>24979070
>new job
<Has anything changed since last time we talked?>
>>
>>24979070

<We won;t be long, thank you!>

can we send over some data to make it look like we had sensory countermeasures?

would hate to see Ms. Satellite get scrapped.
>>
>>24979070
<Thank you. If...you are fired. I can...I can try and track you down. I'll make sure you're taken care of. And you can meet my ship. I think you'll like him.>

<Delta. Offer: Freedom, Home-cooked food, recabulation technology. Request: Come with us.>

"Take us in, Anna."
>>
>>24979070
"Do we have room for the satellite?"
<Well... I'm sorry if I'm rude and apologise for it before hand, but ArmaTek isn't nice. I was wondering if you wanted a job with nicer people.>
If she asks how they're not nice, just tell her about clonefacturing, mushing them and feeding them to successful ones, kidnapping kids, rtc.
>>
>>24979070
<Thank you so much!>
"We're clear, go go go!"

>Weaponized Empathy.
Oh wow. So why's Theta resistant to it, does he lack empathy?
>>
>weaponized empathy
oops.
>>
>>24979144

maybe he just has a little less than the standard person.

he does like to screw with people's biology for his own amusement, while still making sure to change them back after a while

>>
>>24979144
His skill is empathy
>>
>>24979144
Sarvesh is also resistant to the pout if he believes he's working in our best interests.
>>
>>24979070
<What was your old job?>
>>
"Take us in, Anna. We're clear."
"Alright." she said. and slammed the Wyvern into a spin. Pointing backwards, she slammed up the thrust as hard as she could, making the entire ship tremble.... and then, slowly, you started to fall out of the sky.

<What was your old job?> You asked the satellite.
<Why, dear, it was to terraform this planet!>

"You suck at this!" Ellie called, while Wyvern shook and trembled uncontrollably, making your teeth chatter as inertia shoved you against the back of your seat.
"I've never crashed yet!" Anna responded.

While falling through the atmosphere, you closed your eyes, and reached out, to a young man, arm reached out, creating yet another exosuit.
<Delta. Offer: Freedom, home-cooked food, recabulation technology. Request: Come with us.>
The response- cold and emotionless- was simple.
<Elaborate on the recabulation technology. Who are you? Why do you want me to come? Additionally, Work on your parsing. I will meet you when you land.>

Falling through the air, you see a swarm of hundreds of drones, all with weapons, keeping their eyes on you as you fell out of the sky. Slamming onthe thrusters, retracting the heat shield, Anna slammed down, landing fine without breaking the landing legs.
"There! Easy!"
"Leave the Wyvern." A loudspeaker said, from outside the ship.

Sitting in a motorized wheelchair was a pale, young man, a done hovering to each side of him. He simply sat, but you could feel him reaching outward, touching each object.
>>
Oh shit.
If the pout is weaponized empathy, and we taught Devourer our empathy power...
He will open his nine mouths and pout the pout that ends the universe.
>>
>>24979347
We don't even have to teach it, he can channel it through us.
>>
>>24979330
Bring up to the schematics and show it to him.

<I am Heather, these are my friends. Here are the schematics for the recabulator. .It will take a little while to build another one. The first was destroyed when i used to smash a manfiested bubble drive into another ship that was chasing us.>
>>
>>24979330
"Don't try to learn it."

"My offer is simple. We would like you to leave here and instead work for the UPA. You would be payed, fed and allowed free reign to do what you wish. I offer new technologies, such as recabulators, energy shields, and perhaps singularity bombs."
>>
>>24979393
>and perhaps singularity bombs.

Yeah no, let's leave that one out.
>>
>>24979330
<Would you like to terraform a planet again?>
Maybe we can kidnap the satellite and make more beach planets. For the good of the universe.

>>24979330
"Hello! Sorry about the abruptness of the message, it can be a little hard to concentrate while in atmospheric reentry."
"Basically...~~ you're causing a lot of headaches for me and my friends by working with Armatec, and I'd like to tempt you over to our side, or even just out of the way. And I'm willing to offer working recabulators."
>>
>>24979330
<Heather Leery, I'm a Psion, I have gifts very similar to yours.

I have created recabulators, I have the blueprints on me, at our current tech level they're only able to be made with Psionics, still difficult to do though.

I want you to come because I dislike ArmaTek, they're using your creations against us, and because we need your help to take out a threat to all Psionic life. We offer more interesting technology and advancements in science than ArmaTek does. Have you ever wanted to meet a star eater who was tamed and placed within an optical computer body?>
>>
>>24979393
Serp's crystal computers might also interest him.
>>
>>24979330
"I have schematics for a 36 inch recabulator. I took them from a working model aboard a military battleship. I'm willing to give you the blueprints in exchange for your help destroying a powerful psion."
>>
>>24979393
We don't need him to work for the UPA, but he might want to, if they give him more cool tech.
>>24979378
I believe we lost the schematic, and we wouldn't want to give it to him until after he's agreed to stop helping armatec anyway.
>>
>>24979330
"Time is of the essence. If you come with us, we'll take you to a UPA installation, where you'll be payed to practice your psionics, free to do what you wish, so you won't have to run any mining equipment any more, and I personally am offering you rare technologies."

"Oh, Sarvesh is one of the best chefs ever, as well."
>>
>>24979435
We lost them, but we recovered them with RetroCog.
>>
>>24979424
This is good.
Also the heat crystals, maybe?

We can use them to show we're not bluffing, since we have the ion laser.
>>
>>24979330
<greetings delta; I have discovered a way to produce recabulators we need your help, is you help us I'll give you some to play with and if you don't then we'll leave you to your life here on this planet.>
>>
>>24979447
we did retrocog it.
>>
>>24979454
I'm not sure the heat crystals are a technology, they're a new heavy element.
>>
>>24979330
Go outside.
"Hello Delta, I'm Heather. We want you to come to the Psionics Institute. Mostly you'll be able to do whatever you want but we would like you to make some things to help us fight the Void Queen. I can manifest a recabulator for you to learn from, and I'm sure we can come up with lots of other technology for you as well."
>>
>>24979330
"I'm here to offer you two things: The first, recabulator technology. The second, your life. Or rather, your will. Let me elaborate.

We require your assistance in defeating a psionic lifeform that is capable of completely dominating other psions. If it defeats us, it will come for you, and you will stand no chance. You can manifest starship grade weaponry, yes? She can manifest several dozen nuclear arsenals in an instant.

In addition to the opportunity to save your own mind, I'm also willing to give you these recabulator blueprints, if you will leave Armatek, even temporarily, and help us destroy the Void Queen.

What say you, Delta?"
>>
>>24979435
We got the schematic back, and it's useless to him because he needs the actual device to copy it. The schematic is just proof we can make it.
>>
>>24979525
Ok, I did not understand. Carry on then.
>>
You climb out of the ship, Ellie, Damien, Alex, and Anna with you, and take a step forward.
"I am Heather Leery. I'm a Psion, and I have gifts very similar to yours. My offer is simple. We would like you to leave here and come with us to a UPA installation, where you will be paid to practice your psionics, free to do what you wish, and I am personally offering you rare technologies."
"Like?" He asked.
You hold out your ion laser, and he touched it with a look.
"Crystalline catalyst, good for charging and dispelling heat. Born within the heart of a star. Heavy element."
He paused.
"Very difficult to create. Not very useful. What else?"
"Recabulator technology." You say, and project your omnitool out. "Here are the schematics."
"I cannot create objects through schematics. I require a prototype example." He said.

"We'll give you a prototype example after you assist us." Damien said.
His nose was bleeding, very slightly.
"Assist us in destroying a psionic lifeform that's devoted to controlling other psions, and we will give you a version of the actual device." Damien said.

Delta blinked.

"Oh shit, they're coming." Damien said, and looked up to the sky.
>Field too long!
>>
>>24979643
"Done." Delta said. "I agree to this exchange."

He raised a hand- and with bolts, plating, and mechanical components, appearing, they assembled into humanoid robots, complete with what looked like rocket launchers.
"Destroy the facility." Delta said. "And then overheat nuclear cores to detonation."
The automated soldiers brought their explosives to bear, and started to fire on the facility, as drones did strafing runs on the mining equipment.
"Let's go, quick." Damien said, looking up to the sky again.
>>
>>24979660
"Which They is coming? Demiurg or Armatec?"

<I asked you to keep quiet!>

>>
"Which they is coming?"
"Armatek." Damien said.
"All aboard the Wyvern. What happens if you bubble drive in atmosphere?"
"Dark particles collide with atmosphere particles, slow dark particles." Delta said, as he wheeled up into the cargo bay. "Destruction of bubble drive and spacecraft ensues."

"Shit, okay." Anna said. "Ellie, strap Delta down, everyone in."
"Right." Alex said, and everyone rushed in.

Delta picked up a small microphone. "Defense drones, fire upon armatek spacecraft entering atmosphere." He said, as Wyvern shot off toward the sky. Behind you and around you, drones, carrying heavy weapons, shot forward, past the Wyvern, and fired a deluge of kinetic shot, lasers, and a few shot forward to collide with the ships. Through the flak, lasers, and explosions, Wyvern tore free of the atmosphere.

Below, you saw the facility for a moment- before a nuclear engine was forced into detonating, causing the entire building to explode. Inertia shook you this way and that, and you heard a very bad squealing noise as something smashed into Wyvern's wing. The ship shook, side to side.
"Shit, we lost a thruster." Anna said.
"Repairs complete." Delta responded, and the shaking stopped immediately.
"... Oh." Anna said, and shot into the sky.

Some time later, the armatek ships busy with the rebelling drones, you soared past the satellite, and Anna kicked on the Bubble drive.

Worriedly, she checked the gravitometer, but there was nothing following you. Relaxed, she leaned back.

"I really need to practise at that. I did it a few times, fixing an engine that was about to go critical, but that was kind of a fluke.

If I'm honest, I'm a tad envious."
>>
>>24979888
"Is everyone okay?"
<Max, we're coming back now. We have Delta.>

>"Shit, we lost a thruster." Anna said.
>"Repairs complete." Delta responded, and the shaking stopped immediately.
Well that's convenient.
>>
>>24979883
>You'll have to ask Damien, won't you.
>But he did mention looking into branching universes to find a way to help Kat.

>>24979915
>That was never made really clear.

"No! I... I need to save the satellite!" You say.
"It's too big for us to take." Anna said. "And it's a satellite!"
<Stay safe, Satellite, Stay safe.>
<Oh, don't worry about me, kids.> The satellite said. <I'll do my best, but you should worry about yourself, dears.>

You climb out of your chair, as the shaking had stopped, and make your way out to the cargo bay.
"Nice job with the engine." You say. "Thank you Delta. Your help was greatly appreciated."
"I do not want to die." He said.
"Hi!" Ellie said, in her suit. "My name's Ellie!"
She held out a hand.
"Organic systems in lieu of heavier mechanical muscle amplifications." He said, and stared at the hand. "Efficient, fast, impossible to create."
"... What's your name?" She asked.
"Stop pestering me." He responded.
"..." Ellie just bowed her head and sat down.

>>
>>24980042
<He's Delta, he's kinda odd.>

"Pretty much nothing is impossible to create, you just need the right tools. Like Recabulators, currently they can only be built via Psionics, but I doubt it'l remain that way forever."
>>
>>24980042
<Delta is not a very friendly person, Ellie. He lived on that planet all by himself, and that was the way he liked it apparently.>
>>
>>24980042
"Don't you just love those impossible to create kind of things? We're chock full of that kind of stuff."
>>
>>24980042
"Ellie, this is Delta, he's got sort of a one track mind with regards to everything don't worry about it"

"you know delta thats the second time you've said something is impossible to create, I'd have thought your mind would have been buzzing with ways to use these new things..."
>>

<Don't feel bad. He's an autist.>
>>

<... Oh.> She said.
<He's not a very friendly person.>
"What is our destination?"
"The backup psionic institute." Alex said.
Delta paused, and gave him a look for the first time.
He was perfectly still for a long, long moment, staring at Alex.
"Um, I have a bad feeling about this." Ellie whispered into your ear.
Damien struggled not to laugh about something.

And then he collapsed.

"Hey, I can actually feel things again." Damien said. "Still no hearing or seeing, so I'm useless. Don't even know if I'm actually talking right now."
<Yes, you are.> Anna said, with telepathy. She sighed.
"I'll go call Kailynn." She said. "Tell her that you pushed yourself too much. Again. Does nobody here know their limits?"
"I do." Delta said, and laid his eyes on Anna.

"... Very efficient, intuitive spinal implant. Hindbrain converted to digital format. Multiple ports for body machine interface." He added.
"Beautiful." He said.

"Aw man, is nobody going to lay my head on their thighs to make sure I'm okay?" Damien asked...

"... Anna was wearing a jumpsuit, you're wearing slacks..."
"While Alex was the only one wearing jeans!"
He twisted around, and caught Alex in a headlock.
"Jeeerk." He was saying, while Ellie's giggles started stumbling over eachother in their hurry to come through her helmet's speakers.
You joined in, giggling as the two started to wrestle.

"You know, this'd be a lot more entertaining if they were both shirtless and covered in oil." Ellie said.

You stared down at the two, who'd suddenly sprung away from one another.

"You have a very loud mind, Ellie. Please never, ever visualize that again." Damien said.

>>
>>24980809
So basically, Heather just wants an oil wrestling battle royale of all the people at the institute.
>>
So I had an idea:
Dr Manus wanted retrocognition, but was worried about his brains bleeding out. From what we've seen, there's no 'cost' to retrocognition, we've never failed it, nor bled out because of it, so it should be safe to give him.
We don't need Elisium, because we can just retrocog the virus pattern up, and we shouldn't need Jilly, because we're pretty good at TP.

So why don't we just give it to him?
>>
>>24980820
Heather can watch the battle from atop her recabulator throne.
>>
>>24980820
All of the sexy people at the institute. I don't think she would consider all of the people there sexy, just that she doesn't consider gender, species, or carbon/silicon based biology to be a limit.

Sarvesh, Anna, Damien, Summer, Robin, Issac, all of those are sexy, Serpy, Dr. Manus, Devourer, not necessarily sexy.
>>
>>24980866
I always Heather had at least a little crush on every person she considers a friend.

You know how the bubble drives make those dark particles.

How long do the particles exist for before they decay?
>>
>>24981719
They last less than a second, if they're fully charged. If they're not charged at all, they last for ... say, half a nanosecond.
In other words, completely arbitrary amounts of time
>>
>>24981719
>Asking Exa science questions
>>
>>24981765
Okay, so. Here's what I figure we do, then.

We get ourselves some bubble drives and some lasers or whatever else kind of weapon takes your fancy.

Then, we program the drives to forge the warping effect independently, like in the shields. But we get it to make this field around the laser beam. FTL Laser Beam.

Because they're practically no mass, it should go damn fast, right? So one second is more than enough given that we've been in knife-range space combat so far. Our enemies will literally not see it coming.
>>
>>24981853
*So even half a nanosecond is more than enough
>>
>>24981853
>FTL Laser Beam
You can't make light go Faster Than Light! However fast you make it go that's how fast light is going.
>>
>>24981940
I'm sorry Anon. I'll refer to it as the warp laser from now on.
>>
maybe warp beam. Laser still means light.
>>
>>24981853
The problem is that the warping effect can only be within a few feet of the drive itself, like the shields. You'd be able to warp the laser several magnitudes faster than normal, but it'd return to normal lightspeed a few feet away, once it's outside of the warping effect.
It'd be a lot of work for no real effect, really.
>>
>>24981982
So, the actual deformation of space and subsequent 'movement' isn't actually down to the dark particles, but something within the drive itself?
>>
>>24982004
While the deformation of space and subsequent movement is down to the dark particles, they lose charge incredibly quickly, so bubble drives function by bombarding space with as many particles as physically possible while running.
>>
>>24981957
Good.
Now explain your actual idea better please because I don't get it. Once the light leaves the effect it will be going normal speed again. And if anything hits the Bubble it will be destroyed whether there was a laser beam in the bubble or not. And if we fire the gun in an atmosphere it will blow up in our face.
>>
The warp thing would be a laserdp
Light
Amplified by
Stimulated
Emission of
Radiation and
Dark
Particles
>>
>>24982042
It doesn't seem to matter any more, but my reasoning was based on the fact that the particles stuck around for a small time, and would potentially be able to carry something inside the small bubble before they naturally decayed. No use in atmosphere is a good point, though. I hadn't thought of that.
>>
>>24982042
>>24982159
It's interesting to note that since bubble drives will self-destruct while in contact with atmosphere, any hull breach while in bubble drive is potentially immediately fatal due to the release of the spacecraft's life support systems' internal atmosphere into the outside "bubble".

Also not sure how our bubble drive-powered exosuit forcefield generators are able to be used planetside, let alone anywhere outside total vacuum if this is the case.

I assume this will be alright because they are too small to cause any sort of catastrophic chain reaction, or some sort of other handwaving. Fuckin' science, man.
>>
>>24982432
Speaking of which, how did the first Anti-Void Queen device work inside of atmosphere without blowing up?
>>
>>24982432
Outward leaks are okay, I think. It's if anything collides with the bubble. So any oxygen leaking out will simply collect at the back of the bubble and get pushed along.
>>
>>24982473
That wasn't a bubble drive at all. It just made and destroyed the particles inside itself (which could be a vacuum).
>>
>>24982432
The way I look at it is that the forcefield generators are like magnetic monopoles. They only expand space outwards in a certain area, whereas the drives both compress and expand it around the ship.
>>
>>24982432
It's not dark particles that self destruct while in atmosphere, it's that during the FTL process, while accelerating, the 'bubble' is hindered and held back by the atmosphere itself, instead of being projected forward like it should. So it compresses space much too close to the bubble drive. Which is Bad News, because compressing space around a solid object basically means shredding the solid object in question when it re-expands.

>>24982473
The AVQ device didn't work by dark particles at all. Instead it was using the Forging process (which is how dark particles are created) to turn hydrogen and oxygen into water and then turn it back again. Yay, science and conceptual problems!
>>
>>24982432
>>24982557
And I forgot to mention about the suit's generators, but it *does* shred things. It shredded it the first time you used the first generator on anything solid. Though it isn't a bubble drive by any standards. Instead it's closer to 'bending' space by a complex arrangement of compressing and expanding certain parts of space and other handwaving bullshit and Omnissiah is like *really* smart.
