OH MY.jpg

You shake your head.

“I’m not trusting a pair of murderers!” You shout, lifting your right hand the only part of you that’s still ablaze with fire.

Huang tuts. “You have chosen unwisely.” He flicks a hand at yours and you can hear the bones in the flesh part of your arm shatter. Your arm is flung backward and you can feel your shoulder jerk backwards, with a sensation curiously similar to pulling on your finger to crack it, just with excruciating pain, you feel your arm rip clean of your shoulder socket.

Buzz lets out a gasp of shock and Jamie sobs although that might be from his own pain.

You hear Buzz give a yell but can’t focus on your surroundings any longer. Minutes pass and you feel something slam you through the air. You look down, it’s Buzz. And Jamie. The three of you land in a heap.

You don’t care.

Someone’s voice… the arm ripper’s echoes in your ears, “Perhaps in future, children, you will choose your fights more wisely. We will leave you here, with your lifes hanging by a thread. Whether you survive is entirely up to you.”

You look down at where your right arm used to be, blood is pouring out from it. Weakening you.

You…

You want to live damnit.

Summoning up your shreds of will, you barely manage to light three fingers. You use them to burn the wound closed. It should hold you over until you get to the hospital.

Jamie and Buzz seems no better, blood is pouring from Jamie’s every orifice and he’s sweating it too. Buzz despite appearing physically fine seems incapable of getting up, his limbs tremble and shake every time.

What do you do? What can you do?

A) Help up Buzz and Jamie.

B) Leave them behind, just get out of this death trap.

C) Help Buzz, leave Jamie.

D) Help Jamie, leave Buzz.

Jamie's power is not sustainable. He will die soon no matter what we do. Buzz is an idiotic brute and we can't do anything to help him anyways.
Talk to both of them. Give Jamie some nice words. If he manages to pull himself together for now take him with you. Otherwise leave him.

I assume that Buzz will regain his strength on his own soon. If he does his power will be useful to have. Otherwise we are on a time limit and need to leave.

No need to create more enemies. Unless there is something more threatening i vote we help these morons.

For those new to the thread and looking for a general summary, your highly elite high school was invited to attend the grand opening of the Next Step, a floating city-lab, finished two months ago, the year is 2032. The Next Step contains tech 30 years ahead of the rest of the world.

You spent your free time saving Jamie from Buzz and his cronies, by having you and your best friend Chris attack them. You got beat up.

Afterwards you and Chris checked out the gadget store, saw a nice phone with a holographic avatar. Then you went to eat a burger before heading back to nick the phone. Chris distracted security by stripping naked while you stole the priciest phone you could find.

The two of you then attended the Dancing Lightning exhibit and met back up with Jamie who thanked you for your help, revealed himself to be a fan of Khorne, and blood in general, as well as being a creepy motherfucker.

Afterwards, you and the class were invited into the secure area to participate in an experiment. You got lost, and met with a scientist. You almost became his test subject when explosions went off, ruining everyone's day. The scientist was eaten by lizard's, you saved a fellow named Karl, and discovered you were immune to fire.

You came upon a number of your dead classmates, where Buzz claimed Jamie had slaughtered them all. Refusing to get caught up in their dispute made Buzz abandon you, and Jamie tried killing you, you made semi amends with Jamie after knocking the stuffing out of him. Before continuing on your way, which let you encounter a frog who broke/cracked a few of your ribs. You then proceeded upstairs where you found Buzz being beaten by Wu and Huang.

You proceeded to have your shit beaten down by them after discovering more of your apparent affinity with fire which still didn't save you.

And that's about up to date I think.
>>
B. Im sick of all them. Let's help our mafia friend if we can manage.
>>
A it is. Write up in prog.
>>
>>25052936
This. If we had treated them even with an ounce of tact in the first place we wouldn't be in this mess.
>>
>>25052959

You walk over to Buzz, while your arm is gone, and Huang’s parting attack seems to have bruised you badly, your earlier injuries seem a lot less severe. You tuck that note away in case it can help you with your arm later.

“What’s wrong?” You ask Buzz, your voice hoarse.

Buzz moans in pain at your words before grunting. “I’m too tough for them to pound on, though they didn’t realize it earlier because I kept crying out to fool ‘em. So then that Huang guy grabbed my skull and did something. Feels ten times worse than a migraine, and it fucked up my balance. Just give me a shoulder to lean or a walking stick and I can get out of here.” Even his own words seem to cause him visible pain.

You nod, “Just give me a second to check on Jamie.” You say.

You go over to your over erstwhile companion. He can barely move, but stirs a little at your voice. “Jamie, can you walk?”

“I… I don’t know. I feel like I’m dying. I need help.” Jamie moans.

You kick the ground in desperation. You spy a long metal pole that Buzz might be able to use for walking and grab it. He takes it from your hands while lying down and blunts the sharp edges using his palms. “It’ll do.” He says.

You go over and pick up Jamie, he cries from every slight movement, obviously a great many of his bones are broken, but if he stays here, he’ll die.

The three of you make an awkward trio, but it seems strangely appropriate amidst all the death surrounding you. You make it to the entrance of the facility and get outside. Fires rage here too, but that doesn’t concern you anymore.

There’s three choices of escape.

A) You could make your way down to the docks, you can spy a blow up rubber dinghy on the dock, the three of you can squeeze into it and paddle.

B) There’s also motorboat, a much better fit, but it's unlikely any of you know how to drive it.

C) You can hear a helicopter preparing to take off, if you hurry you might make it. But if you take too long it’ll leave and by the time you get back, the boats might be gone. (Roll 1d20 DC: Medium)

The three of you head for the docks. You let go of Jamie for a moment and he slumps to the ground. Unfortunately, you do only have the one arm with which to do things. You push the dinghy awkwardly into the water and hear a light splash as lands. You haul Jamie up onto to his feet and tip him into the dinghy, water splashes him, making him squawk.

Buzz follows after and sets himself at the back of the dinghy. You slide down after him and land atop Jamie, making him cry out.

“Sorry about that,” you say, shuffling to make room. It’s cramped and awkward, and Jamie’s bleeding makes things awfully slippery. Buzz seizes the oars and begins paddling, his strength propels the boat along at speeds comparable to the motorboat you’d passed up. After ten minutes or so, he slows down.

“What’s the matter?” You ask.

Buzz jerks his head at Jamie. “Him. If he doesn’t stop bleeding soon, we’ll sink.”

You look down and notice the boat is slowly starting to fill. How much blood can Jamie even have left, you wonder.

Buzz’s voice jerks you back to attention, “Just shove his face so it sticks out over the side.”

“And have every predator in the water for miles chasing after us?” You ask sarcastically.

“Oh yeah… Hmmm. Ah, that’ll do!” Buzz nods at something.

It’s a small black bucket.

“Stick his head over that, bail it out every so often, and we’ll have no trouble since it’s not a constant trail.

It seems a little cruel but you’ve no other choice.

You shove Jamie’s head into the bucket.

Buzz starts his rowing up and again and you zip across the waves at speeds not meant for dinghy kind.

“So. Where should we land?” Buzz asks.

A) The Harbour.

B) Somewhere random along the Hudson.

C) Head for New Jersey instead.
>>
>>25053254
The Harbour, why not.
>>
>>25053254
B) Somewhere random along the Hudson.

People are going to be using the harbor. The allegiance of these people is unknown.

Also you have no clue about his fate.

C, let's go to New Jersey, no one will search for us there!
>>
>>25053254
Say to Buzz that you're sorry about being kinda of a jerk in the labs, you hope that you're cool now?
>>
>>25053254

“Go up the Hudson,” You instruct, “we’ll a random dry dock and get off.”

“Both of us need to go to the hospital, and one of us needs to go to jail, but fine, whatever, what do I know? I’m just the dumb muscle.” Buzz mutters grouchily.

The dinghy speeds up the Hudson until you find a perfect spot to disembark. It’s late afternoon, the sun is beginning to set, but you feel like you were trapped on the Next Step for days. The three of you barely manage to get onto the dock and make your way to dry land.

Jamie stumbles along with your aid while Buzz still relies heavily on his cane. According to your… guessing, you’re in upper Manhattan. Your apartment is downtown, but you really should go to the hospital. Or something.

A) Go to your apartment.

B) Go to the hospital.

C) Go to a café or somewhere with a TV, find out what’s being said about the Next Step.

D) Or maybe just a place where you can grab some greasy food.

E) Chris’s house isn’t too far from here, maybe you should head on over.

Jamie's the psycho blood guy who tried to kill you and was creepy even before he gained powers.

POST

The three of you groggily make your way through the city towards your general idea where a hospital is. Against all odds, you do find one. As you approach it, you look over at Buzz, “Hey man.” You say.

“What?” His response is still grouchy.

“Sorry about earlier.” You say.

“Which part?” He asks, sarcastically.

“Uhh, all of it. I could’ve handled your picking on Jamie better. And I didn’t realize what Jamie was capable of. I kind of made a mess of things. But then again, the whole place was a mess with or without me. Shit, I’m not trying to defend me being stupid, but yeah. But you need to think about why Jamie snapped like that in the first place. I don’t know if we’ll ever be cool with one another, but can we at least say we’re alright with each other?” You ask.

Buzz thinks for a moment, “Yeah, I guess we’re alright now. Can’t really go through shit like that without winding alright with the other dude I’m thinking. But Jamie’s still a freaking murderer. I can tell you for sure we’ll never be cool if you protect him from the police. Maybe my buddies deserved it, maybe they didn’t, but he’s not a judge.”

You nod. He’s got you there.

The three of you enter the hospital, where you are greeted by the shocked silence of those inside.

A doctor comes over, “What on earth happened to you three?” He asks, eyes wide.

A) “Car crash. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”

B) “We were on the Next Step when things started exploding, we barely made it out alive.”

C) “We got into a fight with a psychic Chinese man and his gimp, they proceeded to kick our asses.”

Sorry about the slow updating, my cold symptons appear to have worsened.

“We got into a fight with a psychic Chinese man and his gimp, they proceeded to kick our asses.” You say, deadpan.

Your line earns a chuckle from Buzz and Jamie makes a noise that could’ve been a laugh. Or him vomiting up more blood.

You nod at Jamie who’s still clutching your one arm. “Better get him to a bed quick. And get a blood transfusion, he’s lost about forty gills.” You say. The doctor looks even more puzzled, but at least springs into action. The three of you find yourselves bundled off to separate rooms, with Buzz loudly exclaiming they should call the police, because had something important to tell them.

You spend the next day or so in bed while the doctors set your various ills and wounds to rights, they regretfully inform you that without the original limb, you can’t get a new arm. They do have some prosthetics they can offer you, but your health insurance probably won’t cover it. Your mother drops by once, she looked a mess, but in the haze of pain killers you don’t recall too much of the visit.

You got caught up on the news, the reports on the Next Step called it corporate espionage, and that perpetrators would be brought to justice. There was no mention of anything strange on the news only that of the one million visitors to the centre only around two hundred survived. Two hundred and fifty you correct the TV. Then freeze as you realize what you said. You don’t know why you said that, but you feel it to be unmistakeably true. You can feel them. The others. Two hundred and forty nine people who survived the virus in some way. You can’t tell where they are, but you can feel their heartbeats as well as you can your own.

On the second day in hospital, the police stop by. They say Buzz has told them that Jamie took a knife to his classmate while you were aboard the Next Step during the chaos and killed them. They would like to get your statement on the matter.

A) Refuse to back Buzz up.

You look down at your torso for a few moments. The cuts Jamie left on you have mostly faded, but there’s still some evidence, faint pink lines. Still, some part of you doesn’t want to talk about that moment when you both almost killed one another. You look back at the cops.

“He did confess to wanting to murder some of his classmates during a conversation once. He was perfectly serious at the time, I didn’t know what to think.”

The police nod and write down your words. “We’ll be in touch,” one of the officers say.

You spend the rest of the day sleeping.

The next day there’s a bustle of activity around the hospital.

Finally managing to grab hold of one of the nurses she informs you the president himself is coming to pay a visit to the survivors of the Next Step incident, which she guess includes you.

You feel a stone drop into your stomach.

Lunch time rolls around and there’s no sign of him. Then when you finally finish your meal of bad hospital pizza, he’s there.

The President of the United States. Marcus Winter.

You look at the man standing before you, his impassive green eyes and, short brown hair. As always he gives an air of importance.

“Hello Dad,” You spit.

“Roman, still as bad tempered as ever I see.” He replies.

What do you say:

“Couldn’t you have just sent somebody else?” You ask.

“What, my only son loses his arm and I’m not allowed to visit?” He asks you in turn.

“It’s never a visit with you. There’s always an agenda.” You reply savagely.

“Not true, the day you were born was just a visit, admittedly it was in the hope that maybe you’d strangled yourself with umbilical cord, but it was still just a visit.” Marcus says, his voice as empty of emotion as always.

“With love and care like that, is it any wonder I hate you?” You ask.

“Please, you’re too young to hate anybody. When you’re an adult you’ll know true hatred. It’s something that fuels you, makes you want to crush the object of your hate. All you’ve got are the petty grievances of a child.” Marcus replies, a thin smile curling his lips. “Anyway, as pleasant as trading barbs with a adolescent is, I came to ask you what you saw on the Next Step.”

“What, you don’t know? You the most powerful man in the country?”

Marcus shakes his head, “I haven’t a clue, the Next Step was outside of any one man’s reach, even one who controls a country. I have no doubt that when it’s rebuilt things will be even tighter locked up.”

“You really have no idea?” You ask.

“Not a one. So I figured I’d forgo the usual blackmail and manipulation and ask you outright if you saw anything I could use.”

“A disturbing break from routine that is,” You say.

Do you:

A) Tell him the truth, super powers, all of it.

B) Tell him some of the truth, that there was a lot of shady sounding research going on about some sort of virus.

A faint look of surprise crosses Marcus’s face. “Bribery, I thought we played this game out already. As I recall you came off less for it.”

“Ah but this time I have leverage. Information you want. And blackmail.” You say, your voice rich with vindictive pleasure.

“Blackmail too? Will the wonders never cease? In what possible way could you blackmail me?” Marcus asks.

“Well I could go to the papers and tell them you left your only son armless after a tragic accident.” You say.

“The I’m Your Son Card again? Don’t you remember last time. I had over one hundred highly respected members of the medical community conduct every paternity test to man and they all came out false because I said so, then we dug up the fact your mother used to be a heroin addict, and was no doubt just a junkie looking for a meal ticket. Now you’ll just be the one-armed son of said junkie, looking to succeed where his mother failed.”

“I’m not asking much. I just want you to cover my medical bills and find my friend Chris.” You say, a little put off by how easily your bluff failed.

“Chris, that friend of yours from school?” He asks.

“You know who my friends are?” You ask incredulously.

“Your friend is. Singular. And I know more about your daily life than you do. But yes I can find Mr Latham. And I was going to foot your medical bill anyway.”

Do you take him up on his offer to find Chris?
A) Yes.
B) No.

>>25054721
Yeah, lets roll with it. A.
>>
>>25054721
>>25054758
We tell him as little about the truth as we think we can get away with.
>>
>>25054721
A, tell him partial truth that they were doing weird experiments, and the death toll was due some bio weapon virus.
>>
>>25054758
Partial. By the way, good job Step Master. Although our hero is little weaksauce for my tastes and has curly hair, I have some good time. Thanks.
>>
>>25054808
Yeah, this has been a nicely run quest!
>>
>>25054758
>>25054769
>>25054781
>>25054807
Partial truth it is.

>>25054808
And thank you, only the second quest I've ever run, so I hope I'm not doing too terribly.
>>
>>25054807
Also, there were some freaky chinese agent guys attacking people there so it probably wasn't an accident.
>>
>>25054721
Yes, and why not tell him everything? WE need to vent and make sure we arent crazy. He can help us dont you fools see?
>>
>>25054841
You're awful and terrible and bad and you should feel bad about being so terribly badwrongawful.

That what you wanted to hear?
>>
>>25054867
He'd get us locked in a cage and jammed full of anal probes in ten seconds flat if he knew we and others have powers.
>>
>>25054936
As if he wouldn't do that instead to our friends and let us go free to find others and form an elite task force dedicated to killing mutants
>>
>>25054976
I think the mutants will come to light soon. Jamie will try to break out of the custody. And why should we team up with the government? We are above the government agenda.
>>
>>25054976
As if this is something we want to do for him, considering that he's a bastard.
>>
A) Yes.
>>
>>25055038
Technically we're below, since we don't even have an agenda.
>>
>>25055041
i think we are the bastard hear
>>
>>25055060
...yet.

“Alright, you’d better find Chris.” You say, giving him a glare.

Marcus gives you a mock look of surprise. “I’m hurt by this lack of trust. But yes, I’ll do it.”

You look at your stump, no way he’s hearing the whole thing, who knows what he’d do if he knew what you could do.

“While I was aboard the Next Step, I volunteered to be part of an experiment, but through no fault of my own I became lost,” You say.

“I’m sure that’s true.” He says smiling smugly.

“Yeah. Anyway, I met a scientist who figured I was a part of his experiment. I didn’t let him do anything, but he told me a few of the specifics, apparently they were all very focused on studying and experimenting with some virus. He never told me its name, but what they really feared was a breach in its containment. It was apparently pretty deadly stuff. Anyway, during the whole emergency, there was the announcement that the containment had breached and people should head to quarantine. I think that’s why so few people made it off, they were all already dead.”

Marcus nods, “Hmmm, thank you for the information Roman, it’s not much but it’s a tidbit that might lead to more.”

“Oh!” You say as you remember who ripped off your arm, “There were some Chinese guys there attacking people, so it was definitely not an accident.”

>Cont
>>
>>25055136

“Yes, well, Next Step had admitted it wasn't an accident, still Chinese… that’ll definitely come in handy. Once again, thank you Roman. Mr Latham will be found I assure you.”

Marcus opens the door and steps back a few steps. “Oh my!” He says in mock surprise, “I believe I have found Mr Latham! Your wish has been granted, you poor soul.” Marcus flashes a shark’s smile at you and leaves.

Chris watches him leave. “Huh… the President’s a weirdo. Who knew?”

“Chris!” You struggle to sit up, “you’re alive!” You shout.

“Woah, easy man, yeah I’m fine.” He says, smiling.

“How did you get out of there?” You ask.

Chris laughs, “Well that’s the funny part. If you’ll recall you handed me that phone before you left. Two seconds after you were gone, in burst security and drag me out of the place. A few police officers took me into custody when they found the phone. As we were on our way back to the harbour though, all those explosions started going off, so by the time I got back to shore, there was no one left to press charges and the police were busy with bigger fish than little old me. So I walked.”

Chris sits down next to your bed, “Oh and I picked something up for you, think you’ll like it.” He says. He pulls aforementioned phone from his pocket. “Idiots just left the evidence locker unattended.” He says, leaning back in his chair.

“So… do you want to talk about it?” He asks.

Do you?

A) Tell him everything. That shit was rough, and despite going through it with Buzz, you’d rather have your best friend to talk about it with.

B) Tell him as much as you can without him thinking you’re crazy.

C) Tell him you’re not ready yet, there was just… too much death and chaos.

D) Laugh it off and play it like it was nothing.
>>
A) Tell him everything. That shit was rough, and despite going through it with Buzz, you’d rather have your best friend to talk about it with.

make a hand flame for proof
>>
>>25055156
C, shit was pretty wild and you're not sure even you believe half of what happened. Also, brograbs!

Oh yeah, make a captain hook joke to lighten the mood.

>>25055156
A errythang we aint no pussy niggaz
>>
>>25055179
It'll just freak him out, makes him think that we're a weirdo, and puts him in danger if there's people who's gonna come after us. Nothing good would come out of it.
>>
>>25055156
A. Pity our sidekick doesnt have any (manifested) special powers.
>>
>>25055156
A, if he asks for proof, hold a lighter up to our palm or something
>>
>>25055156
Tell him you want to talk about it later
ostensibly because it was "too much"
really because the room could be bugged
>>
>>25055156
A and D put together. Tell him everything, but make it out like it was no big deal.
>>
>>25055156
>A) Tell him everything. That shit was rough, and despite going through it with Buzz, you’d rather have your best friend to talk about it with.
Time to spill.
>>
>>25055229
Unfortunately for Chris, or perhaps fortunately, he got out of there too early to be infected. But who says he's our sidekick? Batman's no less a hero than Superman.
>>
>>25055246
this
>>
>>25055249
Ehh, if you're going to make us spill the beans then at least pick this, pretend that our super powers are awesome.

>>25055156
>A) Tell him everything. That shit was rough, and despite going through it with Buzz, you’d rather have your best friend to talk about it with.
>>
>>25055156

“Uhh… give me a moment, it’s hard to know where to start.” You look at your remaining hand. “Well I guess this’d be the best place. Give me a moment.” You focus on your hand, the vague haze of painkillers makes it difficult to summon any true willpower, but you manage to turn four of your fingers into fire. Chris’s eyes widen in shock.

“What… the… hell?” He asks.

“Good question, I’m not even certain myself,” You begin…

After an hour or so, you’ve got it all out. Chris asked a lot of questions, which was hard because in the rush of everything it was to pay attention to anything in particular.

“And to think, the most exciting thing to happen to me that day was getting my ass grabbed by store security.” He says, relaxing for the first time in an hour.

“Being arrested wasn’t exciting?” You ask

“Not really, it’s kind of awful really, but I’ve done its happened five times now so I’m practically a pro. Still, man, you’re like a super hero or something.”

“Hardly.” You raise your stump, “But I’m thinking about getting hook there, maybe take up a career fighting ticking crocodiles.”

“No, I’m serious. Are you going to start wearing an orange and read costume? Oh! Will you call yourself the Roman Candle?” He asks, mocking you in a friendly manner.

“Sure. And you can be my sidekick, The Phone Holder. It’ll work out great.” You reply.

“I think that’s possibly the worst sidekick position ever.” Chris says, “So what do you think’ll happen with Jamie?”

“I don’t know. I hope he gets arrested.” You say.

“Uhhh, they haven’t told you yet?” Chris asks.

“Told me what?” You give him a puzzled stare.

“Uhhh, Jamie went into a coma. And it’s very likely he has brain damage. Somehow a bunch of blood got inside his skull, was putting pressure on his brain. He’s lucky not to be brain dead.”

You don’t know how to feel about that…

>Cont
>>
>>25055563

Jamie hadn’t looked so good at the end there, but still, brain damage and a coma when he’d been walking around all that time?

“How’s Buzz then?” You ask.

“Oh he’s fine. Just had a really, really bad concussion and some inner ear damage. His hearing isn’t as great as it used to be, but other wise he’ll be fine.” Chris replies.

“Huh.”

“So, Rome, what are you going to do once you get out of here? Well of course, we still have school, but come on you have powers now!”

You hadn’t considered that.

What will you do?

A) Start practicing with your powers in your spare time. You haven’t been able to emulate your first transformation since it happened.

B) Start investigating Next Step and the rest of the two hundred and fifty when you can.

C) Drop out and take up both of those full time.

D) Finish off school before putting time into this is.
>>
>>25055574
C. Also try to find someone with healing powers. We need our arm back.
>>
>>25055574
A.

What are our powers exactly? We can create fire, but we also can regenerate. I've considered that our power stems from our emotions, which is why we got stronger when we were angry, but I'm not entirely sure. Any other speculations?
>>
>>25055574
C, we weren't ever going to be a success anyway. Start sparring with Buzz.
>>
>>25055635
You don't know what your powers are exactly. Thus far you have demonstrated immunity to heat and fire. You can turn your body into fire and while in that form it was impossible for you to be injured, but you could still experience pain. You were also able to create massive jets of flame and hurl explosive and non explosive balls of fire while in that form. You have no idea whether you need to transform yourself to create fire.
>>
>>25055574
A.

Don't be a fool. Stay in school.
>>
>>25055698
Anger I should think.
>>
>>25055628
>>25055635
>>25055638
>>25055715

Generally in a case like this I'd take the whoever got two first but this is an important question, it'll decide the rest of the Quest's direction. Worst comes to worst, I'll roll a die.
>>
>>25055761
I change my vote to C to become a hoodlum firebender

>>25055784
Specify which was your vote.

C.

it was >>25055635
>>
>>25055574

You look at Chris, “I think I’m gonna need to drop out man. This is a pretty huge load on my plate.”

Chris scratches his head. “Yeah, I figured as much. I’m sorry to say, but I’m going to stay in school, the family demands and all that. But, I’ll help you out as much as possible man. Just don’t do anything dumb, like challenging Chinese murderers when you’re almost out of power.” He says.

“I make no promises on that.” You say, “Still, this feels…. I don’t know, right somehow. I’ll bust this thing wide open.”

“Good to hear, I’ll have your back every step of the way.” Chris says, he offers you a fist which you bump. “Alright, I’ve gotta head off, visiting hours are almost over. I’ll see ya later man.”

You wave goodbye and turn your attention back to the TV, a news report on the Next Step is on.

“Bust it wide open.” You repeat before succumbing to sleep.

---------
And that’s where I’ll end it. Stick around and feel free to ask meta questions, such as what other powers you might’ve ended up with.

Next thread’ll be at 3pm Tuesday, Australian Eastern Standard Time.
>>
>>25055973
Thanks for the quest, it was swell and you ran it for two full threads straight!
>>
>>25055973
> Next thread’ll be at 3pm Tuesday, Australian Eastern Standard Time.

I FUCKING THOUGHT SO
>>
>>25055973
Could we have more 'write your own' choices in the future? Sure simple choices are important for getting the quest running, but they aren't always what players have in mind.
>>
>>25055996
Indeed. Well this was only intended to be one thread, since the whole aboard the Next Step was intended to be a prologue, just wound up taking longer than expected.

There'll probably be a bit more dice rolling in future since you'll be going up against other power users.
>>
>>25055999
You thought what?

>>25056017
To be honest, you can write in an option any time, the only reason it didn't crop up every post is because I forgot to type it in for every one.
>>
>>25056043
Oh, one hint for the future: please include more descriptions on how people look, it makes easier to imagine them. For example, we know that dad looks 'confident', but that's about it. Is he old or middle aged, fit or overweight etc. is a mystery to us.
>>
>>25056101
Fair enough. Still getting a handle on the whole thing, but yeah I'll try to include more of that.

Chris may wind up half or full black instead of the Irish teen I'd imagined him as.
>>
>>25056147
half Irish half black?
>>
>>25056147
Nah, descriptions are fine. Yes, what other powers we could have? Could we really die in the frog encounter if we were alone? Why there are no female characters yet? We need some female party member.
>>
>>25056228
Do we really need a female, though?
>>
>>25056195
A handsome mix, or at least it is in the only dude I could find who matched that ancestry, Michael Fortes.

>>25056228
Well given your choices thus far, you could have become a human technological interface, a strange hybrid of lizard-werewolf virus flavour, it would've been described better than that, trust me, and also you were close-ish to getting ice and water over fire.

As for the frog, with the powers you had, yes, you would have died, it's tongue was like a cannonball.

There haven't been any females yet because it hasn't happened. There's a few I've already got planned out, and a new one popped into my head with the decision to abandon school.

>>25056324
They do make up half the population.
>>
Oh and both threads are now archived on sup/tg/, if you feel like rereading them or whatever.
>>
>>25056421
All things considered I think we lucked out on the power department. Did our initial choices how to spend our time have any effect on the game?
>>
>>25056482
They did actually the whole powers thing was dependent on what decisions you made during your free time. The only powers not available that way was the Lizard one I mentioned, with that you had to luck into the right room, which you guys did. If you'd picked up a lizard to throw at the scientist you would have been hit by the explosion and gained those powers regardless or your earlier choices. The other one like that was Prescience.
>>
>>25056324
Of course! It creates nice sexual tension if not anything else.
>>
>>25056537
Heh, that was a close call then. I think we should know more about our family and how we live, do we have our own apartment etc.
>>
>>25056607
It attracts waifu crowd.
>>
>>25056607
For the record, any romance (which might not even happen) that does occur will not devolve into a waifu-quest. That's not what this quest is about.
>>
>>25056658
Thank you, I'd prefer mystery/hi octane shonen quest if possible.
>>
>>25056616
Little was revealed during the quest at first because I was expecting this to run shorter, and not proceed in the direction it did.

For the record, your mother is an on again, off again heroin addict who truly believes that one day your father will cease his political career, divorce his current wife and marry her and make her problems go away.

The two of you share a nice two bedroom apartment, most of expenses are paid for by your father. He worked out some sort of agreement with your mother before you were born.

Appearance wise, your mother is a middle-aged, blonde haired lady, who obviously used to be quite the looker, but age and her habit have marred her appearance.

Your father is a solidly built man of six foot six. He's an intimidating looking fellow usually, but he's an amazing actor, since many consider him one of the most personable presidents ever. He's been working tirelessly to change the length of a president's term in office, and may just succeed yet.
>>
>>25056732
Out of curiosity, what did you expect to happen? Or is that a secret~
>>
>>25056626
We will silence them.
>>
>>25056773
Not particularly, I honestly didn't expect you to get so minced. Also a lot of the choices you made had vast effects on how things would've played out. Had you not immediately gone after Jamie and helped him with Buzz and his cronies, he would have wound up stealing from the store, getting caught and taken away well before the shit hit the fan. Making him a rather harmless side character.
>>
>>25056803
Oh god, we ruined his life D:
>>
>>25056773
>>25056803
There was also the whole challenging Huang thing.

I have no idea what you guys were thinking with that one. I honestly gave you the dice roll because if I'd wrote it how I'd originally planned it out, you'd all have died.

The dude throws kinetic energy on a level similar to a car, and you have only a handful of flames left?

And you all went ahead and challenged him anyway. Mein Gott.
>>
>>25056803
...does that mean that Chris would've ended up with super powers instead of Jamie then?
>we did done screwed up
>>
>>25056826
It was our M.O. as a kid with poor impulse control. It's what we did when Jamie was being beaten, how we could resist doing that again?
>>
>>25056832
Honestly the whole Chris thing was a lot different than I'd planned out. In the original draft, he didn't exist. But then I thought an outcast with no friends was a little too cliche and somewhat alarming so I created Chris. He would've gotten a fairly average super-hero though, I was intending on him being a normal, yet skilled sort of character, ala batman, green arrow, etc. etc. His power would've been like super human reflexes or something similar.
>>
>>25056878
*super-power though, etc.
>>
>>25056878
That was a good decision. Even though Chris didn't play out a large role in the events, his existence gave some solid focus for the protag. It's good to have characters that have friends instead of being lone wolves.
>>
>>25056849
And quite frankly it is why you ended up with the powers you did. Interestingly, the one time you resisted that impulse is also responsible. If you'd gone to stand in the circle like the scientist said, the machines would've tipped the scales in tech-wizard's favour, but since it was just you and yourself, you got what you did.
>>
>>25056908
I thought so too. And now I like him, although finding his voice is a little difficult at times. It's not easy to slip into being that easy going while being loyal at the same time.
>>
>>25056970
Yeah, I have to admit that I don't really have good idea what kind of a person Chris is yet, but I'm sure that he'll find his voice as the quest progresses.
>>
Damn, tech wizard sounds more cool than this stereotypical fire guy.
>>
>>25057078
You don't want to burn your enemies with the flames of your justice?
Admittedly there were a few interesting powers in there, tech wiz was one of 'em. You didn't even come close to my favourite one.
There was also one or two that required your noggin to really use to full effect.
>>
>>25057078
We can turn ourselves into flame, be dispersed and then pull ourselves back together, that's pretty neat and unique.
>>
Man, we made some really bad choices in these two threads.
>>
>>25058543
We made some interesting choices in these two threads. Besides, we have poor impulse control anyway.
