You are Captain Numeon Smith of the Knights Inductor, commanding officer of the Aprior sector Joint Task Force, currently on deployment to the primitive frigid world of Volkgarod.

Deployed to aid the struggling world against and orkish invasion, you and the rest of the JTF have landed in the planetary capitol, but are now penned in by an orkish siege, the greenskins surrounding the city center where you are holed up.

There are rumors of reinforcements coming, but you know not who comes to your aid, nor when they will arrive. Until then, you must survive Volkgarod's perennial winter, and the horde of orks which seek to destroy all human life on this world.

Your task force stands as follows.

SpecOps: ASIS task force, Eldar Ranger squad.

Air Support: Valkyrie Avenger dropships, Shrike air-space fighters.

Heavy Armor: Fenris main battle tanks, precision rocket artillery.

Infantry Support: Sisters of Battle, Battlesuit Team.

Special Units: Confessor, Tau Commander.

You have just been briefed by the local general, and a good portion of the JTF has landed. You are still in the room with general Zhukov , and may ask him any further pertinent questions at this time.

How do you proceed?
>>
>>25263290
bump so people can find it
>>
>>25263290
How much of you industrial capacity is left. I think it is time for our Admech to get to work on giving them better designs.
>>
>>25263290
We first require a map of the population centers of the world, and of any surviving manufactoriums within the capitol city under human control.

We also need to get in contact with our ships in orbit, and ask for Techpriest Kalec. How is progress on putting orbital beacons on those missiles?
>>
>>25263412
They're still using kinetic slugthrowers, so the Aprior submachine gun designs will probably be well-appreciated.
Lasrifles would be nice; lasrifles and energy paks are supposedly easy to manufacture.
>>
>>25263413
>>25263412

"How bad is the damage to your world?" You ask. "How much of your industry is left intact?"

Zhukov grunts. "Very little is left intact the invaders, orks you called them? They have left little intact as they have advanced across Volkgarod, everything they encounter they strip for parts or simply destroy. The intercity rail system is in denied to us with the orks holding the perimeter of the city, but it could be repaired on this end easily enough."

You nod thoughtfully.

"And what of population centers, what is the fate of your people?"

Zhukov makes on odd expression, a combination frown and snort.

"Our people were picked up as our forces were forced to fall back, they either joined the army in their battle against the invader or fled towards whatever safety they could find."

"I shall see what I can do to rectify the situation with your industry." You say, "and possibly upgrade your weapons technology where possible."

"Thank you Captain, I am sure the Secretary General will appreciate your gesture."

Was there anything else to ask him before you talk to Kalec and move out?
>>
>>25263550
Ask Zhukov on the climate; how much longer will the winter continue, and how cold will it get?

Have Colonel O'Neill brief General Zhukov on Ork spore decontamination procedures, and have the information distributed throughout the military.

Have ASIS begin finding out how pious the people are; the Confessor may have his work cut out for him here.
>>
>>25263626
agreed. And have a meeting made ready for our attempts to push the orks out of the city.
>>
>>25263626

"I am sure he will. In the meantime general, colonel O'Niell will be briefing you shortly on several important protocols when dealing with orks. Including how to prevent their spread and reproduction, please give him your undivided attention."

"I shall do so Captain."

"Also, what is the nature of this worlds climate? How long will the winter last?"

"Last?" he asks, seemingly confused.

"For how long will the season of snow and ice persist?"

The general seems confused for a few moments before continuing.

"It always persists, though the storms are more severe for some parts of the year."

You nod, "I see, it is not so on most worlds I have visited."

The generals eyes spark with interest. "Really?"

"Yes, most settled worlds have temperatures above freezing for most of the year."

Zhukov shakes his head, amazed. "I could not even imagine. Fair fortunes Captain"

"Thank you for your time." You nod respectfully and exit the command bunker heading back to the surface.

On the way you patch a vox signal through to the Midnight Flame.

TBC
>>
>>25263714
>Forgot to stop bumping, oops.

"Kalec, are you there?"

"As always Captain, how may I assist you?"

"It seems that the cloud cover on this world will be a persistent problem with orbital targeting, as the winter will persist indefinitely. Are the target beacon heads for the missiles ready yet? They will be one of our only resources for orbital bombardment."

"They are being fabricated as we speak sir, they shall be ready shortly."

"Excellent." You continue, "also, how goes the establishment of an satellite network?"

"The satellites are in the air, so to speak, and are moving into position now. However, the cloud cover prevents direct optical surveillance in most cases. Thermal imaging has proven more promising, but is tenuous at best. You do however have access to it as a global vox transceiver system, although how effective it will be through these storms is anyone's guess."

TBC
>>
How do Orks even fare in cold temperatures? I understand they are very adaptable, but does eternal winter at least hamper their reproduction?
>>
>>25263797

do we have smaller-scale thermal imaging for our regulars? while green would be easy to see on a clear day, i suspect snowstorms and blizzards would make sight problematic....

also, how does the performance of our slug-throwers compare to lasweapons in storm-like conditions?

finally... get our admech (when they're done with upgrading our gear) on designing further defenses and logistical support tools. any biologis we got should be put on how to encourage the orcs to get together in one place... then we nuke it from orbit, burn the bodies, and crack open a nice warm bit of rum.

finally.... we might also want to think about terraforming in the long-term. i'm sure there's some companies in Aprior who would be interested in such a lucrative contract...
>>
>>25263813
the winds might blow their spores, but the cold could inhibit fungal growth.... beyond that your guess is as good as mine. perhaps grab any biologis we got on this? (did we bring any biologis admech? if not, send a request for one of them)
>>
>>25263432
Only if their industrialized and we got the right equipment for setting up the proper facilities. Considering tech level we are pretty screwed in that regard.

>>25263813
Nope rather if anything it preserve their spores.
>>
>>25263797

"Thank you Kalec, I shall allow you to get back to work."

You switch frequencies, patching through ASIS and Confessor Cromwell.

"Agent Kolchack, Confessor Cromwell, are you there?"

"By His blessing sir I am."

"Yes."

"Good, I need you both to work on investigating the people of this world, determine how devout their belief in the Emperor is, and what form their devotion takes, I must know these people if I am to work with them. Any other information you can discover will be most useful as well."

"It shall be done Captain." Kolchack says simply, whilst Cromwell says the same in a much more ornate manner.

Closing that channel, you send word to your senior staff to meet you at your new HQ in the city, which seemed to have been an academy of some sort in the past.

In about half an hour, Cypress, Vael, Crais and Jager are assembled around your hololith table, currently displaying a map of the capitol.

Surrounding your positions is a long green swath representing the orkish horde, slamming repeatedly against your core of Aprior blue and Volkgarod red.

Your forces appear to be holding out across the front, but it is tenuous at best, and relies heavily upon the locals heavy fortifications. The orkish horde breaks upon these battle lines like waves upon a cliff, and they lose many in the process, but they recieve constant replacements eager for the fight, while the Volkgarod army was being worn down rather swiftly.

Now that you have arrived, the situation has improved, but you are still trapped by the orkish armies.

How do you proceed with the meeting?

What should our priorities be, then? Consolidating the Volkgarods defences, while keeping orks occupied with diversionary attacks? Or should we try and find their warboss, which could with any luck spark some infighting for authority and give the colonists some breathing room?

OP mentioned railroad - I'm assuming it leads to some sort of Magnitogorsk equivalent we should liberate so that the locals can arm themselves with our superior tech?

Are Orks actively attracted to powerful foes? Maybe we could provoke them to attack us where we're strong by constructing a flashy enough stronghold away from population centres...
>>
>>25263986
find a weakness in the orkish lines. We must break the encirclement.
>>
>>25264014
Your knowledge of orks is that they will congregate to large battles, but given their fractional nature, and the lack of large command and communication structures, even if you started a massive battle not every ork on the planet would know about it.

Orkish communication basically boils down to one ork shouting really loudly at another one, or a few orks telling stories in the pub.
>>
>>25263986
suggestions gentlemen? i suspect that massed bombardment is not quite accurate enough to deal a good deal of damage without striking our own lines... but perhaps we can disrupt their logistics? get in contact with any survivors and get them weapons for hit-and-run missions on small groups of orcs.

other options could be using missiles and such... what are our stocks of surface-to-surface missiles? artillery?we need large area of effect weapons to handle orcs.

>>25263913
i stand corrected.
>>
>>25263986
Sisters and marines reinforce the lines that are about to break. Battle suits do the same. Have our stealthier groups attack targets of opportunity and have our guardsmen reinforcement key locations. We meanwhile will form an small force that will be deployed beyond enemy line their goal is two things. A take out leaders/key resources and B leave info behind about a place with a better fight that is off world.
>>
>>25264065
we can use our bombardment cannons to hit the approaches to the city to deny the orks reinforcements. then have our precision artillery hit a weak-spot in the encirclement, then have our elite units exploit that to crack the line. Armored units exploit the breakout, that's what they are good at after all.
>>
>>25264102
We would need to use the Shrikes to fire the orbital beacon missiles at those locations in order to get some modicum of accuracy from the cannons.
>>
>>25264048
are we expecting any other guard regiments, or are we all?

perhaps we could have our rangers assassinate any orc "leaders" and warchiefs and encourage internal strife... but i suspect that won't be the cure, considering orcs are practically skullbashing machines. have our Rangers supported by vendettas/strike craft, and hopefully that will blunt at least part of the attacks. when we get those beacons... dis gun be gud.

getting some fortifications engineers on the defenses might be a good idea... i'd imagine the Apriori admech might have some suggestions.

finally, get out some civil preparedness reels, particularly needed for keeping calm in the face of the orcs.

(also: hey, how are things Storm Raven?)
>>
>>25264102
yes, but >>25264124 has the right of it... although i'm surprised we weren't already equiped with a number of these. ground-based artillery would be good for local concentrations. perhaps we could bombard somewhat blindly behind their lines until we get some beacons? enough that we wouldn't be at risk of hitting our own, while doing at least some damage?

We are expecting some sort of reinforcements, but we don't yet know whether these reinforcments won't feel inclined to consider us collateral damage rather than allies.

Now, given Ork apparent decentralization of command structure, we'll simply have to systematically wipe them out. To that ends we need to find where they store most of their Dakka, their mekboy lairs and take those out.

I suppose the Rangers would be best for this? Give them some beacons so they can flag things for our ship to take out.

How are Shrikes handling the weather and orkish dakka?
>>
>>25264098
>>25264020

You lean in close and examine the map in its entirety.

"We need a way to get pas the ork lines and sow havoc. After we do that their natural lack of organization will disrupt them, allowing the JTF and the local army to push them out of the city with a concentrated assault.

We just need some method of getting behind their defenses unseen."

After a few moments, Vael speaks up. "Captain, look here."

He manipulates the city map, leaving a set of underground tunnels below the city streets.

"These appear to be the city metro lines, it would be possible to utilize those to move around the orkish front lines and attack their rear. But they are likely guarded."

"Can't be that well guarded." Jager interrupts. "If the orks new about them they would be charging through en-mass not posting sentries."

"Perhaps." Continues Vael, "but I would expect trouble there Captain."

"And meanwhile," Says Cypress, "The regular troops up here will launch a full scale assault with air support when the enemy is off balance. We break their spirit and send them running from us. Get them out of the city and then we give the gunners upstairs a little target practice."

"With your permission mon'keigh." Crais intercedes, "My rangers will hunt for targets of opportunity, and eliminate anything that passes for a leader amongst this, rabble."
>>25264162
Aprior PSA, 'keep calm and burn the bodies' in distribution.

And I'm doing pretty well, thanks for asking.

>>25264228
Shrikes are performing well, but the storms limit operational range somewhat. They have still racked up quite a kill total of orkish aircraft.
>>
>>25264228
Yeah, having the Rangers find where Orks store their trukks, fuel, ammo, and mekboyz then placing orbital beacons to direct orbital bombardments is probably about it.

Another idea is to set up a place away from civilians with a hidden beacon, then hitting the Ork horde from behind to draw them toward the trap, then having orbital bombardments wipe them out.

Is it even possible to break Ork "spirit"? They seen to enjoy the fight under nearly any circumstances...

Anyway, give Crais your blessings. If Jager thinks it's a good idea, have him take a team to explore those tunnels. It might be that Orks know of the metro but avoid it for... reasons unknown.

Should we take personal part in the suggested counterattack, or we could perhaps load up into drop pods and deploy should an opportunity for the Greater Awesome present itself?

Oh, and on second thought, maybe we should be careful which leaders to displace - if we eliminate a strong and loud, but relatively clueless Nob and a smarter one takes his place, we haven't really helped ourselves. They're not likely to have a latent Kreed among their ranks, but if their movements on strategic level are easy enough to predict, there's probably no need to risk change for worse
>>
>>25264434
Orks are without fear in large numbers or when they think they can win, but when faced with an opponent they do not believe they can beat, in smaller numbers, they usually cut and run.

>>25264497
Crais' strategy seems to be 'kill the leader, then the new leader, then the next new leader..." Eventually the orks will be freaked out and lose cohesion.

That's the plan anyways.

Where will you be during all of this?
>>
>>25264295
perhaps getting our battlebrothers to take the tunnels then using a force of the cream of the PDF and some Apriori to go through after it's been secured and then encircle the enemy.

vendettas and Rangers on sabotage and assassination missions, a la >>25264318's idea.

(good to hear. i don't know how long i'll be here, getting ready for work and all that)
>>
>>25264593
What are these vendettas you keep talking about? I have never mentioned them.
>>
>>25264630
god.... not vendettas, i mean valks. whatever we have that can transport troops reasonably quickly, with vtol capabilities for quick insertion/extraction. or w/e the eldar want to use.
>>
>>25264583
We will take part in the surface, since we can't be out of communication in the tunnels if we're to coordinate everything.
>>
>>25264709
Rangers prefer to move on foot, a Valkyrie or Avenger would be too easy to spot, even for orks.

General plan seems to be leave Cypress and Vael in charge of the surface, have Crais move overground to attack targets of opportunity and scout ahead, while we join up with Jager to go ork hunting in the tunnels and come out behind their lines.

Objections or changes?
>>
>>25264779
Have the rocket artillery just keep on hammering away at the Orks.

We'll take a single squad of Knights with us, and the other 3 will be with Cypress and Vael.
>>
>>25264779

I get the feeling it's 1 for the surface and 1 for the tunnels. I myself would best wait in a drop pod for where our presence will be needed most.
>>
>>25264779
nope. should we order a general advance when we pop out on the tunnels and properly encircle them?

also, how many soldiers could we reasonably get through those tunnels?
>>
>>25264779
We seem to be in disagreement about our role in the operation.

If we are on the surface we will either be trying to sneak past orkish lines with the rangers or wait with Cypress and Vael while the other teams get through.

Underground we will be moving with the ASIS team and Jager. Be aware that vox communication is not hampered due to use of a vox booster in the tunnels.
>>
>>25264853
They are full subway tunnels, you could rush quite a few men through quickly, the problem will be the choke points at the stations themselves.

If you could clear the way you could get a few platoons through in short order.
>>
>>25264853
>and properly encircle them
They outnumber us, and they encircle the entire capitol. How would we encircle them?
>>
>>25264856

Certainly not with the elves, we'd only be slowing them down. If we don't lose any command ability, I suppose we might go to the tunnels.
>>
>>25264856
I'm voting to go into the tunnels, and bring an orbital targeting beacon with us. When we break through and end up behind the Orks, we'll set up the beacon somewhat behind their lines. We hit the Orks from behind, get them to mass around the beacon, then the ships in orbit hit them while the Sisters, Knights, tanks, and battlesuits punch a hole in their line.
>>
>>25264950
Confirming for join Jager in the tunnels
>>
>>25264890

They encircle the whole town, but if we get past them, we might at least have a shot on their rear. For a moment until we either force a gap in their line or they envelop us, that is...
>>
>>25264890
ah... i was hoping we might have the forces to form at least a thin line around a large portion of the ork's forces, and with orbital strikes and artillery we could surround a large portion and thereby slaughter them to a man, burn the bodies, and pursue those who fled before they regroup.
>>
>>25264974
sounds good. my question was more geared towards "should we advance before or after our flanking forces make contact". if we did it before, it would engage the ork's attention so we don't get buggered by them seeing a small force easily outnumbered.
>>
>>25264295
You think for a few moments, considering your options.

"This is a sound strategy, I shall take a team and accompany Jager into the metro tunnels. From there we shall clear a path for a JTF strike force and open a breach in the orkish lines. Our primary forces will exploit this breach with the tanks leading the way and send the orks running from this city.

Prepare your teams, we move as soon as you are able."

Your commanders salute and file out of the room.

TBC
>>
>>25265215

You meet up half an hour later in front of a battle damaged metro station, Jager standing by with his eclectic team, you arriving with your force of Knights.

Also waiting is a platoon of Aprior guardsmen, ready to follow your breach in the lines and wreak havoc behind the orkish lines.

Jager smiles "Looks like we're together again captain."

You proceed down into the darkened metro tunnels, ASIS team and Knights moving like shadows through the darkened tunnels.

After you enter the tunnels Jager opens up his coat, stretching his secondary arms. "They get a bit cramped in there." He explains, before drawing his twin SMGs, another pair holstered at his belt.

Most of the team members have activated night vision gear, though the ASIS eldar and Jager both forgo such assistance. After you pass through the station and drop down onto the tracks, your team spreads out, creeping along the walls, eyes peering deeply into every corner.

From what you can see these tunnels have been abandoned for some time, chipped rockcrete and brick lie in piles on the floor. It is painstaking going, moving slowly through the dark, checking for signs of enemy activity. For the longest time nothing happens, and you begin to think that Jager might have been right after all, when Jager himself holds up a clenched fist, his primary hands aiming his SMGs down the hallway.

"Orks." He says, "I can smell them coming, fair sized group in the tunnel ahead."

Actions?
>>
>>25265386

How many are there? If it's manageable amount of orcs...

Take cover, let the Orks approach, then take them down quickly. Let none escape.
>>
>>25265386
Set up ambush positions, get behind cover, and set grenades to remote detonation if that's possible.
We can't allow any of them to escape, and we need these tunnels cleared to allow reinforcements through.
>>
>>25265445
"Jager, how many?"

The hybrid switches one SMG to a secondary hand and lays his palm flat upon the floor, closing his eyes in concentration.

"Not sure, small party closest, seven at max, but I can smell more further ahead, these are probably scouts or just got bored of waiting around."

He comes back to action position.

"We only have a few minutes, orders?"
>>
>>25265530
Order knights to climb above and have the rest of our men hide and scatter around a bit. Once they get under our knights have them drop down and take them out silently. If any should escape our spread out hidden troops should be able to pick off any runners.
>>
>>25265551
If the tunnel ceilings can handle that, then this sounds good. Use Shock Mauls and such to take out the Orks before they can yell and compromise our position.
>>
>>25265530

If they are followed closely by a larger force, maybe we should let them pass through unmolested and jump the larger group.

is ASIS capable of taking them out silently and quickly on their own?
>>
>>25265530
"Ambush positions, silence these ones quickly before they can warn the group."

"Right Cap!" Jager kicks off his boots, showing the clawed xeno foot.

"Sabre team," he says, "Ambush time, lay low and hit hard." With that he leaps up to the ceiling of the tunnel and digs his claws into the loose bricks there. Some of the ASIS members activate cameoline cloaks and fade from sight, others dive into side passages or hide behind support columns like your Knights.

You wait in concealment for several minutes, until a dim flickering light fills the tunnel ahead. From it emerges half a dozen orks, the leader holding a torch in one hand and a shoota in the other.

"Oi, how come we've got to go on ahead?" says one.

"Cuz da boss said so ya lazy git, now lets get a move on, wez missin da fight!"

"Shaddup ya zoggin squigs! says the torch bearer, smacking one of his followers with his gun. Wez performin' a rekonnoiter, ta see if deze tunnels go to da humiez, den WE gets to be in da fight first, ya see? Now move it!"

"All forces engage when they are in the killzone, silent weapons only, no noise to warn the larger group."

You wait a few moments while the orks draw slowly into the killing zone.

Suddenly, you see a shapeless mass flutter to the ground, and the head ork leans down to pick it up, holstering his shoota.

"Oi, wats dis fing?"

He holds up an old brown trenchcoat, looking at it, clearly bewildered.

That is when a vaguely person shaped blur launches down from the ceiling and tackles him, the torch falling to the ground and going out.

You rise from cover with your brothers, shock mauls flaring into life as you charge forwards, joined by the more melee proficient ASIS members. The orks, always ready for a fight, draw their weapons and fight back, but given how outnumbered and outclassed they are they fall swiftly, battered into bloody pulps by a dozen shock mauls.

You look around to see no injuries, although a few do sport new scratches and gouges from the orks blades, and Jager standing over a very mangled pile of flesh and bone that may have been an ork at some point, shrugging back into his coat.

Jager grins, raising his guns. "Just like old times." And rushes off further into the shadows of the tunnel ahead.

After about another hour of sneaking through the tunnels, and passing two flayed piles of former ork, Jager voxes you.

"Cap, looks like we've found what we're looking for, there is a station ahead that leads up to the surface, problem is that the orks have already taken over."

You creep up and zoom in with your visor, looking out through the tunnel mouth.

Sure enough, at least two dozen orks are milling about in the station ahead, some have broken open a vending machine to get at the food inside, others are searching for any trinkets to loot they can find.

A nob walks around the station smacking other orks about on various conflicting errands while a couple gretchin fiddle with various bits of the metros systems.

Jager has already moved off and snuck into the station out of sight, and is voxing you minor status reports in the movements of the orks in the station.

They do not seem to be explicitly guarding the tunnel, but you doubt that you could sneak your armored bulk through without attracting some attention.

The rest of the orks are disorganized and have moved back from the tunnel, but are quickly rallying.

"Knights forwards, clear the station of all hostiles!"

You dash out of the tunnel mouth, putting two bolts into an unlucky ork as you slide into cover of a nearby train, your brothers sliding out of the tunnel firing as they come.

The eldar from the asis team dances in and out of the orks reach, cutting his opponents down with an eldar sword. Across from you another ASIS member, a tau in a long coat and wide hat lines up shots with a pair of long barreled laspistols.

One enterprising ork leaps over the top of the train at you, but for his troubles you wrestle him to the ground and put a shot between his eyes.

Throwing one more grenade into the panicking mass of greenskins, your brothers cut them down in short order.

You see one ork trying to seek cover in a side chamber, but he is suddenly dragged off his feet and pulled backwards into the dark room. A series of sickening snaps and pops and wet squelching noises follow.

After a moment, Jager walk out wiping his claws on a wet rag.

"Station secured Captain, but I doubt any of these orks friends up top failed to hear that commotion."

The Aprior guard force comes jogging up behind you in the tunnel, ready to engage at your discretion.

Orders?

Rolled 15

>>25266543

Call for the rest of the squad. We're going to take some ground. Where do exits from station lead to? Directly onto the streets, or into a building on the surface?
>>
>>25266543
Station some of the guardsmen and see if we can have a tech priest or two try get it running. The rest of us should continue on.
>>
>>25266592

If the one you came in through is any indication, it opens into a small building to protect the tunnel from the snow and wind.
>>
>>25266543
Set up weapon emplacements facing the stairs coming down and further down the tunnel.
We'll let the Orks bottleneck themselves on the surface entrance and we'll wipe them out.
>>
>>25266630
But this station is what we were looking for, one that opens up behind the rear of the Orks. Why would we move on?
>>
>>25266647

Very well. I doubt we have time to reinforce it before action begins. Have the commandos scout out the situation topside in any case.

"guardsmen, establish defensive positions at the staircase, we are going to secure the surface structure."

The guardsmen salute and you take your team up the staircase to the surface building, keeping a wary eye out for movement.

The surface structure is clear of orks, and the surrounding streets show only scant signs of orkish habitation, the occasional mob rushing by on the surrounding streets to reach some fight or another, the sounds of distant gunfire showing the inevitable results.

"Crais, are you there?"

"Yes mon'keigh." Comes the rangers calm voice.

"Have you identified any targets of opportunity in this area?"

The ranger scoffs. "These brutes are slow of hand and slow of wit, the trouble is in finding something they care about enough to worry about it being destroyed."

"What about their guns?" You ask, "An ork is nothing without his weapons."

Silence for a few moments.

"I have noted a decent sized stockpile of weapons and munitions not very far from your current location. I sent word to your ship, but the orkish air defenses here are too thick and eliminating them alone would rouse the whole horde.

I am sure that with your... expertise, the dump could be destroyed, likely creating the distraction you desire."

Actions?
>>
Rolled 68

>>25266826

Make a mental note to ask Crais to at least try make an effort to call us by name.

Other than that, commend him for a job well done and head out to show the Orks some Apriori sportmanship. By which I mean disarming them.
>>
>>25266958
literally or figuratively? I'm cool with either one
>>
>>25266980

Both, I suppose. But after we carry out the former, the latter will become much easier.
>>
>>25266958

You sneak out onto the surface, voxing through to command to send more troops down the tunnel and to prepare to engage the enemy with an all out attack.

Leaving the streets you move through abandoned bombed out buildings, drawing closer and closer to your goal. Occasionally Crais calls out an enemy group and you lay low as they pass.

After half an hour of creeping through darkened buildings and dashing across abandoned streets you arrive at your destination, a warehouse taken over by the orkish invaders.

While the orks seem content to let the rest of the city lie abandoned after they loot it, this building has been take over and fully orkified, large metal ork faces nailed haphazardly to the wall, and crude sigils painted sloppily on various doorways.

Outside a number of gretchin lug around weapons far too large for them under the supervision of orkish masters, while other orks dig through large piles of guns to find the ones they want in the mess.

It's a miracle the place hasn't exploded already.

I am afraid I may have to end it there, sorry for another short thread guys, but my dad is out of town and I have to go help mom with a few things, and I haven't eaten yet, such is my dedication to my players.

As always, any lingering questions will be answered upon my return later, but for right now I have to go walk the dog and get something to eat.

Thanks for playing, hopefully tomorrow night will be another lone one.

to be fair, this thread was pleasantly absent of trolls, so there's something to be thankful for as well.
>>
>>25267391
yes quite, I simply speak in general terms.
>>
>>25267338
Eh, It helps that I've read all of the Apriori fluff, and actually wrote what there is of their naval fluff. Side note: If you want any more ship classes for the JTF's use, just ask me.
>>
>>25267949
I am considering of adding a light combat ship at some point in the semi-far future, considering how many people are clamoring for precision orbital strikes.

My main concern is that, considering how often player take the 'nuke it from space' approach, that they will just start nuking every problem they come across and never actually do anything as a character other than praising the midnight sun.
>>
>>25268006
The type of ship they are looking for is the strike cruiser. The main problem is that the 40k setting goes to absurd lengths to make sure everything important happens on the ground because they want to sell mini's when logically everything should be decided by orbital bombardment and space battles because of orbital mechanics. Generally you deal with this by having heavy antiorbital defenses that the ships can't engage directly because the planet allows them to put in absurd power supplies.
As for interesting ship ideas, I have a few. Some of which are deliciously heretical.
>>
>>25268236
Do go on...
>>
>>25268287
The first one is a "totally not Inquisitorial black ship". See the black ships are basically scaled up marine strike cruisers, and certain chapters have asked to be able to purchase them since forever and Mars has always said no. Somehow the knights have built a ship that is identical in function, if not appearance. Precisely whether the knights "acquired" the designs somehow or simply looked at the concept and worked it out is an interesting question...

The next is an Interdiction ship. It either crease a small, localized, short lived warpstorm, or a "null storm". It can't be kept up for long, but no one can enter or exit the system once it is activated. The consequences if someone managed to bring one to Sol for a suicide run would be catastrophic...
>>
>>25268455
There is also the Apriori class battleship, but you shouldn't let the players have that short of endgame. There is a reason why I originally intended the Damnos Crusade wreck their shipyards and R&D structures and kill 2 of the 3 ships.
>>
>>25268455
>>25268738
Interesting, these give me the most diabolical ideas...
>>
>>25269170
One idea this anon has is building a ship around a railgun then combine with whatever other weapons you can slap on it makes it quite potent. Useful if the ship is smaller and allows it carries a one hell of a punch. Problem would be repairs/maintenance and the fact it would be based of zeno tech. Perfect if we don't have access to larger vessels but still need a good amount of fire power.
>>
>>25268455

>blackships
Giving players a ship that is literally able to wreck the shit of small fleets and collect possibly tens of thousands of psykers (or more) to be delivered to Terra is quite possibly a worse idea than shoehorning a genestealer hybrid into a force after players decided 'yeah, friendly genestealer hybrids are probably a bad idea'.

> interdiction ship
And that is even worse. You can't possibly justify the ability to produce a null field short of necron tech, and then you're going full 'lol freed the norn queen' levels. Creating a warp storm is just countless levels of "we don't need eyes".

>>25268006
The main problems with orbital bombardment is that each shot you take kills everything in a roughly kilometer diameter without question, you're (with the exception of bombardment cannons) using weapons systems designed to fire in -patterns- to fill a distant area of space with shots you hope will strike the target, and you have little in the way of knowing and calculating the atmospheric conditions correctly for a perfect shot. [lances are exempt from the latter for the most part]

This is before you add the fact that most orbital bombardment is done from low orbit meaning your ship might have a very short window to fire upon the target to avoid enemy fire from the surface, your augers normally aren't designed to deal with the clutter of terrain, and you might even have to worry about your rounds burning up or exploding early due to reentry.

Orbital bombardment in 40k is not something you do near anything you want intact.
>>
>>25269798
If people are upset about that conflict with your ASIS team, it is my idea that every special unit or major character has some dark secret, hidden motive, or important backstory which will need to be resolved in time.

Jager is based off of a character concept I have been thinking about for years, I didn't just thing 'lol lets make this guy a hybrid all of a sudden for no good reason' When I first considered the concept for the ASIS task force a 'stealer hybrid was a choice in my mind to put on the team for the precise reason that it would create conflict which the players would be forced to deal with.

As for ships, I am definitely not going to give players the ability to obliterate planets, that would suck all scale and effort out of any possible conflict.
>>
>>25269798
You are significantly overstating the power of a black ship. It is literally just a battlecruiser sized strike cruiser, both in stats and fluff.
>>
>>25269798
Inquisition black ships and the black ships that gather the pyskers are not the same things. Actually read the fluff you rage about.
>>
>>25269894
>>25269958

I admit that I confused Navis Blackships, Kill-ships, and Inquisitorial Black ships.

My apologies for that, but I still feel my other points stand.
