"Zoe, do you think you can make the trip?" I ask, and, as I expected, she shakes her head.

"I'm...I'm feeling kind of...lightheaded." She mumbles, and I have to concede that running that much followed by what just happened would probably have something to that effect on her. And I'm not gonna let her walk all the way back like that. She could collapse, and I can't let that happen.

"Hold on," I say, and I step in front of her and kneel down, at the right height for her to cling onto my back. As she grabs on, hesitant, I'm reminded once more of just how LIGHT Zoe is, and how much her illness has robbed her of. Her grip, surprisingly enough, is quite strong, and I'm pretty sure she'll be able to hold on for a while.

I motion my head to Aslan, and Sally, who had been watching us curiously, pouts. She doesn't want to carry the Lion any more than I would, but he can't just walk around like that. Reluctantly, she sighs and nods, picking up the weakly protesting cat and placing him on her broomstick. I can't hear what she says under her breath, but somehow it quiets him down immediately.

With our arrangements taken care of, we start the walk back to Zoe's.

For a while, we travel in silence, but then Zoe speaks up, her voice only just above a whisper.

"Wayne?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you."

I'm kind of surprised. What's she thanking me for? I haven't done much at all.

I say as much, and she giggles a bit, and doesn't say anything else for the rest of the trip. Sally gives us an odd look, but that's all.
Amazingly enough, we don't see anyone the whole time. I can hear the sirens behind us, headed for the school, but since I'm pretty sure we didn't leave anything to lead back to us, it's unlikely we'll hear anything from it.
By the time we get to Zoe's, she's already asleep on my back. I'm able to fish the key from my pocket with only minor difficulty, and open the door with less.
I set her down on one of the couches, and look at my options from there.

I fish my Digivice out of my pocket. It's helped me twice today, both times in very odd ways.

I now know that the digivice can apparently find other digivices, if my guess is correct, and that it can transfer power of some kind to Sally when the conditions are right. I didn't bother looking at it in depth before because of everything that was happening, but I have time now.

The Digivice sits comfortably in my palm, with only a slight weight to it. it's quiet now, whereas before its beeping was getting very aggravating.

Opening it up, I can see that the screen, while lit, is blank, with no icons at all- no, wait...I apparently have service. That's good to know.

All the buttons are unmarked, meaning I have even less of an idea of what this thing does than I do a regular phone. And this didn't come with a manual.

But if it's an item meant to help Sally and I, then there couldn't be anything dangerous in it, right? I mean, it's only helped so far, so fiddling with it can't do any real harm...

I'm hungry, and if I'm hungry, god only knows how our Digimon are faring. But what to make? I can do curry relatively easily. Heading for the kitchen, I stop by Sally and Aslan are relaxing and resting, and tell them I'm going to be cooking.

Sally of course requests something with Apples, which I assure her I was going to make, and Aslan just mumbles something about "meat," which I'm pretty sure can be done. Digging through the fridge and cupboards, I find everything I need for the meal I have in mind, and get to work. I light several of the burners on the stove, each of them holding a different pot or pan. One of them is lined- a panini grill, I believe, but it'll do just fine as an actual grill, I think.

I pull out a fish from the back of the freezer portion of the fridge, a salmon, and leave it out to thaw first. Then I get my ingrediants for the curry together and begin to cook. Once that's all properly made, I take four apples from a bowl on the counter, and begin to cut them thin. That's a lot of apples, and a lot of apple slices. I have a feeling Sally's going to be pleased. Once I'm done slicing them, I place the apples in a pot of about a half a cup of water, and add a tiny bit of lemon to it. As the water begins to heat, I add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a tiny bit of nutmeg, and stir constantly.

Once it begins to boil, I turn it off and place the apple mixture in a bowl with a fork.

This should be fine for Sally, right? She'd like Apple Pie filling, without a doubt.

While I was doing this, I also had to keep an eye on the salmon while it was grilling. I didn't want to burn the fish Aslan had asked for and put him in a worse mood than he was before. I got the impression we were only just getting to be cool with each other, so if I did anything to ruin that, it'd be on me.

Thankfully, though, I was able to take both of them off the stove once they were done in time, and the curry finished soon after, leaving me with three dishes for us to eat. I made sure to save some for Zoe when she woke up, and then brought the rest in to the Digimon.

As soon as Sally's eyes land on the Apple dish, the biggest smile I've seen on her all day breaks out on her face. However, she then sees the tiny-in comparison to her hands- fork, and her smile fell. I realize I hadn't taken her claws into account, and sigh.

I could find some way for her to eat without her claws getting in the way, or...

I pick up the fork, spear some of the apple, and lift it up. Sally's gaze flits between me and the fork, and she points to herself, as if asking what I'm about to do. I smirk, and say, quietly, "Only because you were so good today." Her eyes widen, and she nods slowly, a slight blush tinting her cheeks as she opens wide. I place the apple in her mouth, and she chews slowly, before suddenly making a muffled exclamation of joy, her eyes watering. Once she's through with that bite, I fork another up, and she devours that as well. Steadily, the treat I had prepared for her disappears into that somehow still-shapely body of hers- yeah, best not to think on that. The sounds she makes as she eats aren't much better, the joy and happiness she's getting from her favorite food obviously greater than I had anticipated. Soon, the entire dish was demolished, and Sally was humming to herself in content, the blush on her face just a smidge larger than before.

I can't resist smiling myself, since she got so much enjoyment out of something I made. It's one of the pleasant sides of cooking, Seeing people eat what you make. The way she was almost shivering in delight when she ate was a bit odd, but I chalk it up to a digimon thing.After the whole thing is done, Sally latches on to me with a huge hug, and thanks me for the food. With a pat on the back, I tell her that she deserved it for all she's done for us. She just squeezes me tighter when I say that...which actually starts to get kind of uncomfortable. Once she releases me, I give her a smile, then turn to Aslan, who has devoured his fish and is now lying in a pile on the floor, also looking very pleased.

Hopefully, he'll be just a bit more amiable, but only time will tell. I'm not gonna push my luck here and now, but eventually we may become friends. I hope we do, anyway.

So, with our meal done- The curry was delicious- We're left with some free time. What should we do?

I'm still sitting there, relaxing, when I realize that yesterday, we were told by the DGDSTND file the gate would open tomorrow.

Tomorrow is today.

But they never informed us of when the gate would open. We could be stuck waiting her until midnight, or we could go right now...

This isn't the best situation to be in, I realize, especially as low on energy as we all are now. Zoe's asleep on the couch, Aslan's looking like he's about to pass out any moment, and Sally and I are tired as well. It would be in our best interests to get some rest now, before we're called to our new duty.

Zoe and Aslan have the den yet again, and I know Sally would be fine with the room we slept in last time, so I head up there, my partner following me sleepily, just barely hovering off the ground.

Once we're inside the room, I realize just how bad my clothes are- ripped and slashed from the windows I jumped through, torn from the rubble in the school, and dirtied from everything we've done. I have to find some kind of replacement for this poor outfit.

Rummaging through my bag, I find a short-sleeved tee and a pair of cargo shorts- alright, but I could do better. Not that I care, really. I step outside the room, Sally curiously watching, and shut the door, before changing in the hall.

Despite all our talk of partnership, I've only known Sally a couple of days; I'm not exactly comfortable with changing my clothes in the same room as her, even if she isn't really human. Maybe especially because she isn't human. I don't know what Digimon taboos are like, she could try to jump me and that'd be okay in her eyes. I don't know. I'm pretty sure this is my exhaustion talking, anyway.

Now changed, I go back into the room, and Find Sally looking at my torn-up shirt.

"Yeah, Wayne?" I can't think of any other way to ask, except-

"What are you doing with my shirt?" She blinks, and then looks back to the shirt, then to her hands, then to me, then back again. I can see her tired mind trying to work, but all I get out of her is an

"I...I don't know. I was gonna do something with it..." She frowns, then shrugs and puts it down, leaning back on the bed. I sit beside her, and, after about five minutes of an awkward silence, try to think up a way to break it.

"So..." It doesn't go very well. Thankfully, she has a question already.

"Wayne," She asks, her voice quiet.

"Yeah?" I'm a bit surprised by this change in personality. Normally, she's a very level person...Digimon, but to see her quiet is odd, to me.

Wow. That's...that's a big question. One I'm going to have to think seriously about, too. What do they want from us? Well, they want help. But...what 'help' means, I don't know.

"I...I don't know just what they expect of us, Sally." I begin, and I see her nod slowly, as though she'd already thought of that. She probably had. "I don't know what the Digital world is like, or what's happening to it, or why they need help in the first place. I don't know what we can do to fix it, or who's causing it, or why. I don't know anything, except...they need help. And they gave me you to accomplish that..." I turn, and place my hand on her shoulder. She tilts her head, and looks me in the eyes. "You told me before that we would accomplish great things together, Sally. And we will. We will because you said so, and I believe you."

She smiles, briefly, but I can see that she's still unsure. Hesitantly, I put my arm around her shoulder, and bring her closer.

"And if that's not enough...I'm here. I'll be here with you through all of this, right? Because we're partners. You support me, and I...I'll support you." God, that sounded so stupid...but it looks like it worked; Sally's nodding, her smile growing, before she suddenly presses herself against me more, her eyes closing as she does.

"Thank you, Wayne." She murmurs, visibly relaxing a great deal. Soft snores begin to fill the room, and I sigh as I realize that's the second time a girl's thanked me like that today. And both of them fell asleep on top of me.

Well, I planned on falling asleep anyway, so I might as well do it now.

Trusting the digivice to wake me up somehow once the gate is open, I place it beside me on the bed, and lean back slowly, supporting Sally's weight as I lie down against the soft mattress.

Sally's hat has fallen off again, and though I'm tempted to put it on again, I remember what happened last time, and willfully choose not to.

As I succumb to sleep, and sink into darkness, I can hear a soft humming in the back of my mind, lulling me further and further away from consciousness...

IT was NEVER supposed to take this long to get to the digital world. And I know a good deal of the story here seems half-assed or improvised, and that's because the vast majority of it is.

I have so much in mind for the Digital world, from factions and goals to the full scope of what's really happening.

So I hope you guys will stay with me on this; I promise you it will get better.
