Without warning you try the same mental attack you did not a few hours earlier in the chapel, you feel the best presence inside you, it’s anchor and link in your soul seems almost tangible, it’s almost like casting a spell but instead of conquering the laws of the world, you have to overcome your foe ego.

Unfortunately the creature is on guard, coupled with your increasing distress due to your impending doom you don’t exactly manage to do anything of consequence; in fact it’s a mercy that it doesn’t try to eat you whole instead.

Her distress is truly unique; could it be that the golem soul has started to awaken?

Leila answer right in the middle of another plead, using her hands to put her flameberge inside the scabbard on her back, she also put back the black hood of her cape over her head, forcing her long cascade of golden hair to fall forward, the mask unfortunately, rob her of grace and elegance to replace it with dread; her emotionless voice only reinforce the impression of facing an automaton.

Given your new handicap you can’t exactly move, thus the woman walks toward you and kneel at your side while Emeth tries her best to calm down.

The poor girl is probably running out of fuel, you’ll have to use that Ofuda before entering the camp…

You can’t do a damn thing to calm her down for now, thus you resolve to look toward the emotionless woman and black out the vision of the corpses and wounded monsters as best you can, they’ll be recovering soon enough but the fight has been effectively taken out of them.

You could have easily done as she asked, despite the lack of emotions and indifference in her stare you are convinced that she’s trying her best to believe you, after all why else would someone like her actually give you the benefit of the doubt if she had the slightest suspicious?
Purifiers may not be as ruthless as Inquisitors but they still wear the same clothes.

As always the words flare up and start burning the paper, this time the magical phenomenon is quick and fast; several blue tendrils escape from the Ofuda and directly penetrate Emeth skin, she doesn’t move a muscle, let alone acknowledge this sudden, mystical display but the link tells you that all the lost energy lost in the struggles is back in force, now she’d just need to redraw the runes on her arm and repair some of the damage to her torso and legs to be combat ready.

‘’I… I’ll trust you with everything, I hope I don’t need to emphasis on the importance of my equipment?’’

Leila silently shake her head, her eyes glued upon your magical sword that you’ve yet take out of its scabbard, you unclip your equipment belt holding some of your rations and waters as well as bandages, and hand the whole to the girl, who grabs it in one hand, then swing the whole over her shoulder, not minding when your weapon slap her on the back.

Next is the Horn and the potion, both of which are again, taken with indifference, she had to open her cloak and put the whole in an inner pocket but, at least those things will escape any curious glances.

Still, without the Holy artifact you feel quite naked but as Leila start running without so much as an warning you are forced to discard your grievances, Emeth, of course, follow close behind you, trusting the Purifier enough to allow you to stay at her back.

As you exit the site of the ambush, you mentally block out the sight of the corpses and wounded knights, those girls were nothing but victim of circumstance but… they probably helped in convinced Leila, after all, what kind of corrupted nation would employ highly trained agents?

One of them didn’t need to be a victim of the Beast twisted sense of humor…

Even out of the battlefield the sounds of battle echoes in the region, concerts of scream, battle and magic form nothing else but a gruesome, constant sound that even manage to penetrate the trees, your progress was thankfully uninterrupted this time, and around midway through your progress you exited the zone of operation of the knights right and proper.

You were just glad you didn’t stumble upon Ame and the girls…

Still one hour of running is not easy, thankfully your ruthless guide was merciful enough to stop for a few swings of waters and breathing, beside that you had to run and catch up as best you can to the faster girls, thankfully your pride alone was enough to keep you going and before long you crossed path with several sentries placed here and there across the decreasing trees, the only reason they didn’t turn hostile right then and there was, in all likelihood, due to the Purifier uniform.

‘’There’’

Finally the forests cleared up, you came face to face with hastily thrown together wooden stakes and walls covering acres upon acres and camouflaging the view, but the marine winds along with sounds of faraway waves was enough to tell you that you’ve reached the eastern shores of Zipangu.

The battle is very close to home indeed.

Up above on the fortified hills several sentries hail your arrival, but Leila stay and look toward with gravity, immediately, you straighten your act and try not to breathe too hard.

‘’Don’t speak, don’t request anything. You’ll be put in a cell for a while, and you’ve got to accept that’’

Doesn’t mean you have to like it, given your situation you give her a half-hearted nod and rub Emeth head as the girls very much understand the situation and start feeling afraid…

Even for an outpost the numbers of soldiers was staggering, men and women armed to the teeth in plate armors, halberd, shields, spears, blades, crossbows… you know perfectly well that the church use a very uniform way of warfare, so these people must mostly be auxiliaries and mercs, but the few officials busy here and there, mostly discussing amongst themselves are enough of a presence to kill any misbehaving.

The man, probably around your age, frown at Leila harsh tone coming through the mask, the attire of this guy look very…noble, some kind of mix between fluffy and grand with the only oddity being a badge above his heart depicting a closed fist with an open, larger eye around it.

Emeth had a very hard time staying quiet, but when one of the girls slapped you in the back with the staff of her spear she almost jumped the soldier right then and there, and as mean of defiance she outright dodge the second staff and jump in there with you, almost landing right on you, although she does stumble on your lap when the wooden door close with the man muttering something about ‘’Faux human’’.

5 minutes of simple relaxation felt like heaven, you’ve been running nonstop for so long, fought the moment you got out of Zipangu camp and tasted more than your share of wounds in such a short time it’s a wonder your body hasn’t broken down by now, thus you allow Emeth to literally melt all over you, the sudden forced physical closeness has her letting out various sounds of bliss while her emotions start flaring up in the most… poignant of warmth.

There she goes rubbing her face in the middle of your chest, by the grace of Mother Earth it’s like something just broke inside her.

You fail in your authority, so for the moment you decide to look over her arms a best you can.

The one that was chewed out is of course, effectively useless, the cut is not nice to look at and many artificial bones just out from the amputated wounds, making it very, very ugly; no doubt that, if she was organic, she’d be dead by now.

Her other arm look relatively fine, the runes pattern having been erasing simply rendered it useless but it will be useable again, provided someone know how to replicate them.

Again with this moan, she let it out once you start looking over her belly and torso, slowly touching with your hand (provoking another sound), her skin is warm and alive but the wounds there appear relatively deeper, the piercing damage of the arrows certainly did damage but… most of them appear to be regenerating.

It’s a slow process, but the cut and damage are lessening by the minutes.

Hmm, given that she was described by Tsukiyomi as nothing short of vital for the war effort, there’s probably some unknown package in that torso of hers… Regardless, she’ll need replacement for her arms and legs
