Generic crusader quest here guys. This is my first time as a QM so it might not be the best quest ever. Feel free to give me plenty of feedback throughout and I'll see what I can do.

The game will be dicey. You will have a basic character sheet with d100 stats. To succeed in a roll you need to roll a d100 lower than your basic skill +/-modifiers.
I want this to be a game, not a story.

So, pick a name and roll your stats:

>Strength:
>Agility:
>Stealth:
>Perception:
>Charisma:

If the stats you get are too shit I'll let you reroll.
>>
>>25527010
Once you've picked yourself a Character name and we've got some stats on the go you'll pick your "class" and we'll get crackin'.

Oh, and your a soldier in Richard I's army at the start of the Third Crusade.

Be prepared for anachronisms too. I'll try to avoid them, but there will be some things I miss.

July, 1191. After a year at sea and fighting Cypriates, the army finally arrives at the walls of the great city of Acre.
The Muslim tyrant, Yusuf ibn Ayyub, or Saladin, has reconquered the Holy Land from King Guy and Orlando Bloom, and Richard the Lionheart has commissioned a 3rd Crusade. You are Jacques Fontain, a French Knight Serving under King Phillip II, who has accompanied Richard I to reclaim Jerusalem for Christendom.

The siege has been long and hard, with the defenders trying to surrender more than once and the attackers trying to take the city again and again, with no outcome for either side. Saladin himself has attacked your army and you have lost more than a few friends.

You prepare your equipment ready for the upcoming assault. You don your armour and pause to decide which blade to take with you.

>Bastard Sword: No shield, bonus to str, minor penalty to agility
>Longsword: Allows shield, minor bonus to str, penalty to agility

Pick one.

Grasping your blade and securing your shield, you leave the tent and tell your squire to take the horse away from the field. He’ll be no use in the narrow alleys of the city.

The army stands outside the crumbling walls eager to get at the Muslim blood hiding behind them. Over your head soars an enormous stone, trailing sand and dust over you and your comrades. Not a second after it collides with the wall it comes tumbling down, creating a breach.

The English cannot contain themselves and charge through the gap, immediately engaging the defenders . Do you

We're not some filthy peasant.

>>

Follow their Lead DUES VAULT!

however I need a bit of context, are we leading troops? if so await orders [can't go getting other's killed for our glory]
>>
You look at the King atop his stallion and await further orders. He doesn’t seem eager to do anything, but before you can voice your concern a ladder is hauled towards you and the small group nearby.

The Duke of Burgundy swaggers up to you.
“You see that group of archers on the walls?” he asks, pointing. “You’re to kill them. Then make your way to the south gate and open it.”

The knights beside you pick up the ladder and you all rush towards the walls of the city, pulling the ladders up and starting to climb.

You hold your shield above your head and instantly feel the solid thump of an arrow embedding itself into the wood. Undaunted you climb over the wall and let the archer feel your blade.

As your fellow knights reach the top you decide to:

>rush straight for the gatehouse
>help them deal with the archers

>>25527352
You're just a knight in the army, not leading anyone. Just serving the french King in his quest for christendom.

You manage to twist yourself aside and the dagger scrapes off of your helmet. Before he can ready himself again you send a kick straight at his groin and boot him off the wall into the carnage below. You pause to look, and it appears the English aren’t making any ground. You sigh and wait for the Knights around you to regroup, and once everyone is ready you make your way to the gatehouse.
Inside is a winch system designed to lift the portcullis.

Do you

>Attempt to heave the gate open (roll for strength)

You take a quick look around the room and don’t see any other way to open the gate. You do, however, glimpse the Saracen hiding in the corner of the room, and before he can do anything sneaky you manage to stick a sword through his throat.

Confident there are no other hidden sand people, you make your way back over to the winch and, through the help of your fellow knights, all of which are apparently blind, you lift the portcullis.

Once fully lifted, the French forces rush the gates and join the English in the fight on the streets.

You

“But you’re not even brown you dolt…” says the Knight.
Slightly crestfallen, you drop the armour and carry on downstairs.

Blood spurts forth from the Saracen’s face and he drops to the floor. You place your sword to his neck, at which point he yields and releases his weapon.

You look over to see that your fellow knights have all been victorious as well. The siege had really taken its toll on the inhabitants of the city.

You hear hooves behind you and the Kings Phillip and Richard ride past you towards the city centre. Burgundy swaggers over again and says
“Top work lads. They’ve surrendered. “

Before anyone lets out another word you turn to nearest door and kick it in. The men around you cheer and join in, and within hours much of the city is burning. You wander around the streets, laughing and drunk, with a large bag labelled swag draped over your shoulder. You managed to get yourself a nice little haul of trinkets, but much of the cities wealth had been lost in previous battles.

Whilst walking past a church you notice an ornate cross made of solid gold sitting at the altar. Not one to pass up such an opportunity, you pick it up and are about to put it in your bag, when a large Teutonic Knight approaches you.

“Orders are orders.” A weak justification but it’s the truth nonetheless.

You bring your sword down on the Muslim’s neck and avoid looking at the butchery going on around you. But it’s hard to ignore the screams of dying children, followed by their mothers.

Once the deed is done you return to your tent without word, throw up, and go to bed. Sure, you’ve killed many men before, but not like this…

The army moves out from Acre a few days afterwards, marching on towards the city of Jaffa. But, at Arsuf, Saladin attacks the army. You quickly scramble for your gear, hop on your trusty steed, and join formation with the knights on the left.

You look around and see the Knights of St John on one side, and the English on the other.

The infantry engage ahead of you, and the footknights ready themselves to reinforce the centre.

“He left for France weeks ago…” he muttered back.
“You mean I’m fighting for the English now?” you ask in disbelief. “Why did the King leave?”

“You’re fighting for God,” retorts a Hospitaller, listening in on the conversation. “Now be quiet, and follow my lead.”

You see that the army is wavering in the centre, and may break if something doesn’t happen soon. You don’t appear to be the only one, and the Hospitallers break rank and charge the enemy.

The sword glances off of your well crafted helm and the saracen raises his blade to come down on you again, but before he can do so a shiny fist flies through dust and crushes the Saracen’s jaw into dust.

You begin to praise God when the same fist opens up and drags you to your feet.

“You better hope no one saw you fall off your horse, you looked like a right ponce,” said the fist. Or something near the fist anyway. Your head was still spinning.

The bloodied knight gives you a grin. “Back at ‘em then lad!” and runs back in screaming at the Arabs.

You twat.

Once again you start to swing your blade, but your balance is still off and you drop to one knee. You look up just in time to see a rock sail towards you and clunk you on the head.

When you wake it's dark. You roll around on the spot a for a while to cope with the bursting headache, but finally manage to haul yourself to your feet.

You're still on the battlefield, surrounded by corpses. The French army has been decimated, but there seems just as many dead arabs with them.

You stumble towards the town of Arsuf, trying to avoid looking at the corpses around you when you see the Hospitaller who saved you lying in a pool of blood.

Not wanting to leave him there, you roll him over to find him alive, but severely wounded. He begins to groan and cry out but is totally incoherent.

You strain your eyes in the dark and notice the village has been occupied by English knights. Not wanting to waste any more time you hurry over to the nearest people you can and ask for a doctor of some kind, pointing to the bleeding knight on the horse.

The knights point to the nearest inn, which is doubling as a field hospital. One of them supports you and the other leads the horse, and at the last moment you realise that neither of these are true knights but brigands in looted armour.

You discreetly draw the dagger you looted from the Acre and

You have a quick glance around the inn but find nothing you could help him with. You’re a killer not a doctor, you wouldn’t have the first inkling what to do with the guy.

As you munch about, however, you hear muffled noises coming from the inn’s cellar. You kick open the door, sword in hand ready to fight, and find a group of people all gagged and tied to a pole in the centre of the room. One has the obvious markings of a Teutonic Knight, one an English Knight, one is a peasant crusader and the last is a saracen.

You remove the gags from each of them and untie all except the Saracen.
The christian each thanks you in turn and realises you have something pressing on your mind. You recognise the Teuton as the man from the church, but this is no time for squabbling.

"I have a wounded knight upstairs, do any of you know how to treat it? He looks like he's been run through with a spear."

The saracen immediately pipes up "I know!" he says quickly. You look him up and down and it's obvious he isn't a soldier, but aren't decided. You look at the crusaders, each of which look around uncertainly. Evidently they are as clueless as you.

As the crusaders rush off you drag a table infront of the saracen and untie his arms only, leaving his torso attached to the pole.
The crusaders bring the hospitaller down and place him infront of the saracen, who immediately begins removing the layers of armour around the wound.
You narrow your eyes on the arab.

“Not many of your kind know French, I should think…” you say open endedly.
“And there’s not many French that know sense. Today is a day of rarities no? Now bring me some clean linen and boil some wine.”

You flare at the insult but decide not to react. You point the Angle Knight to fetch the equipment and set the Teuton and peasant to stand watch outside.

An hour passes before the saracen stops working on the Hospitaller.
“There,” he says. “He should live, though he won’t be up for a few days.”

“Okay, first things first, I think we should get some names on the table.”

“I am Fulko de Lorche,” says the Teuton.
“Sir Thomas Marshal” says the Angle.
“And I’m Will” says the peasant, with a sheepish grin.

“Right, I’m Jacques Fontain. Now, what happened out there?”

“We won, after a fashion,” said Marshal. “The Hospitallers charge eventually broke their flank, and the Saracens fled towards Jerusalem, they says Richard himself killed a hundred arabs.”
“Horseshit,” growled Fulko.
“They’ve continued the march on Jaffa,” Marshal carried on, “but left us and a few dozen men at arms behind to hold Arsuf from any regrouping Saracens.”
“and the men at arms?” you ask.
“Deserted the moment the crusaders left. Arab bandits came in the night and caught us off guard.”

“Okay,” you nod. “And what of…?” you point your thumb over at the Saracen.

“I,” interrupts the arab, offended “am Imad al-Isfahani, a scholar and a historian. It just so happens I was staying here at the inn when the battle started.”

“We go to Jaffa,” says Marshal.
“You ain’t no deserter, are you?” asks Fulko, rising from his seat.
“No, no” you protest, “but can we move the Hospitaller?” you ask.
“If you put him in a cart and don’t travel in the mid day he should be okay…” Imad volunteers. “I’ll accompany you and tend to him while you travel.”

You think for a few moments. “All right, I’ll sleep on it, we’ll decide at dawn. For now, we’ll take watch from the roof in shifts.”

You sleep a few hours before Will comes and kicks you awake. In broken French he says “You look now…”

You glance up to Will, whose sitting on a wall with a cheeky grin and shout your thanks, which alerts your presence to the others hiding in the fortress.

Four more bandits burst out out the main keep and charge you. Will puts an arrow in one, and Fulko crushes another with a bastard sword he just found in the armory, leaving you to fight with the other two.

Deciding to just get the fuck out of Arsuf, you abandon the fortress.

Grabbing a cart from nearby, you place hospibro on it and leave the town, going straight for Jaffa.

You travel for a day and a half before arriving at Jaffa in the early evening. As you approach you notice piles of muslim corpses against the walls and Richard's Flag flying above the gatehouse, where you are stopped by two English men at arms.

Surprised at your fluent English, Will replies “I dunno, he’s the Prince of Wales or Marc Antony or something. Everyone seems to know him from somewhere different.”

You shrug and accept it, carrying on into Jaffa. King Richard has set Jaffa up as a new command base in the Holy Land, and the place is kitted out as if it’s going to be occupied for quite some time.

You tell your party that you’re going to find your old gear, and you’ll meet them back in the tavern once you’ve found your squire. You get a funny few looks for walking around with an Arab but Marshal shoots them down with a glare and most carry on. Imad goes back to the hospital to help with the wounded and says he’ll return once Hospibro awakens.

After an hour of searching you find the region where the French Knights are all encamped, where you a met with a lukewarm reception. A few of the knights you took the walls of Acre with are glad to see you, but most didn’t even notice you’d disappeared.
You find your old squire sat on a cart with your old gear.

“Sir Jacques,” he exclaims. “It’s good to see you alive!”
“It’s good to be alive,” you reply, but you ignore him for the most part. You grab your swag bag, and anything else you own that can be sold and head over to the markets.

Not long after sitting down with your preferred beverage al-Isfahan rushes through the door. Before he can get a word out, he’s stopped by a drunk French man-at-arms and you know immediately skulls are going to get broken.

You leave your horse at the door and approach the Hospitallers bed, where he now sits up with a grin on his face.

“Aha,” he says, “so these are my rescuers. Which one of you is Fontain?”

You step forward and the knight bursts into laughter.

“I suppose that makes us even then!” He says, and gesturing to the horse outside “try to stay on this one eh!” He laughs again.

“I am Sir Baldwin de Carreo,” he says, “Knight of the Order of St John.”
Your party introduce themselves in turn, and Baldwin flinches at Marshal’s name but says nothing.

“Well,” he says, “I owe you all a great debt, and will repay you all in turn once I have shift out of this bed. For now, I suppose we must all wait for the King’s orders eh?”
A nurse hurries in and tries to shoo you away, with talk of rest and recuperation, so you bid Sir Baldwin a good night and leave the hospital.

Find out why everyone is shit scared of Marhsal.
I believe Jaffa is on the coast?
Maybe go and explore the docks if we have nothing else to do, always something interesting going on near those.

You make a mental note to investigate more about this Marshal fellow and head down to the docks. You have a few florins left over, so you figure there might be something of interest to buy or maybe some sailors have some stories of home. You’ve been itching to know what’s up with King Philip as well.

You
>head to the merchants and fishmongers
>head to the sailor’s house and shipyards

if you want to find out about marshal you need to figure out who to ask

Sailors, they're bro's
>>

You make your way to the sailor's quarter, essentially a row on inns and whorehouses and listen out for any French you can hear.

You eventually come across a merchant ship, La Creme, and decide to talk to the captain who's sitting on the docks with toes touching the water.

You ask him
>for tales of France
>Word on King Philip
>other

Ask about Phil, and why he left.

“Excuse me, Captain. I was wondering if you had any word on the King of France?” you ask.

“Living under a rock here, Sir Knight?” he answers puzzled. “There was an argument between all the King’s after Acre, and the King sailed for home. ‘Ill health’ he called it.”
He leans in closer and begins to whisper. “Though, my brother’s in the King’s navy, (long family history of seafaring you see?) and he tells me that he overheard a conversation between the King and his underlings that he’s sick of Richard holding French lands, you see? Well, they’re not French, they’re English, that what I says but makes no ends, I ain’t no King, so how would I know? Anyways, he says that there’s some plot with Barons and stuff to get those lands back, but that’s a thousand miles away now anyway.” He pauses for a moment.
“Then again, me brother said he fucked a mermaid. So he’s full of shit.”

The captain then bursts into laughter and heads back into his cabin.

“A mermaid!?” you hear him laughing, “what a prick…”

Laughing as well, you decide to
>talk to more sailors
>go to your tent

Rolled 82

So tell me about this Mermaid in detail then.
Mermaid whyfoo incoming.
>>
>>25531840
See if we can find any sailors who have been here for awhile and ask about Marshal, he seems to be well known.
>>
>>25531880
You wander around a little more and overhear a heated conversation in English coming from the next boat. You approach and stand aside to wait for the argument to subside, but one of the sailors looks over at you.

“Got something you wanna say, Frog?”

You respond with
>I was wondering if I could speak with the captain of this vessel
>Nothing (carry on your way)
>Other

We're here for the captain.
>>
“I was wondering if I could speak with the captain of this vessel,” you respond calmly.
The sailor eyes you for a moment and calls out to the captain, who emerges from the ship a few moments later.

“Yes?” he says gruffly.

“I’m looking for information on a Sir Thomas Marshal.” you say.

“Marshal?” he ponders. “All I can say for certain is he’s a prominent English knight. Earl of Pembroke or something, not too sure. Of course, there are the rumours.”

“What rumours?” you ask.

“ ‘What rumours?’ he says” the captain laughs. “You know, he’s a Templar gone rogue gone good, that he’s secretly King Richard and the King’s just a double, that he once ate the heart of a man while it was still beating. Fuck know where they come from, but they’re most likely horse shit.”

You thank the man and carry on your way, deciding that it’d be best to ask someone who actually knows the man if you want real information.

You awake the next morning to the sound of the cock’s crowing. With nothing really to do you drop your armour off with your squire, who’s wearing your helmet at breakfast.

“I want this polished and all the dents knocked out by the evening all right?” you say.
“Yes, Sir” replies the squire through a mouthful of bread.

After wandering around a few hours you head to the marketplace where you meet your party. After the polite “good mornings” and little small talk you decide to

>find out what the plan is from some of the higher ups
>look for work/something to do
>visit the tavern from last night to beat some manners into them
>other

and it would appear everyone has left.

Bump I guess, I don't want this to go to waste.
