>Part I: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/25517171/#p25519386

You are Tatsuo Miyamoto, a Taisa of the Japanese Imperial Army. And while the war rages on in China, you find yourself miles back home, awakening from your ship bunk on the Japanese minelayer Sarushima.

Just yesterday you were introduce to the gate and all those interesting associates who will follow you through it to the new earth. And now, today is the day.

You step out the ship and cold November air brings you awake. The bright lights of the dockyard blare in your eyes. Around you Takehiko’s men idly sit in groups here and there, waiting for the final order of supplies to be loaded.

Namely the weapons and any other supplies, pertaining to who you bring along.
>>
Which brings us to our final choice. Just who to take with us! We may choose 2 factions to join us on the first wave into the new world.

>[ ] The Kempeitei – Masters of propaganda, fanatical servants of the emperor, and nothing escapes their sight. In conjunction with the Imperial marines, your men will be loyal to the death and absolute order will be instilled. However, for obvious reasons, they won’t take kindly to Takehiko and his hired guns, and that sentiment is likely mutual.

>[ ] Elite Imperial Marines – Takumi, and his elite Special Naval Landing Forces. Killers but also keepers of the peace, they know how to run things with or without orders. Men of character and honor and skill. Scouts, snipers, and sabotuers without equal, there's nowhere they can’t go and nothing they can't do.

> [ ] Imperial Army – Veterans from China to the last man, your army brothers, these guys are some of the best and lucky few to have survived the war since the very start. They’ve been through hell and back, many not wanting to repeat it, while a minority seem entirely capable of bringing it with them. But all them them are loyal to you beyond a doubt. Conflict with the Marines and Navy may be expected, and there will surely be times they don’t see eye to eye.

>[ ] Count Takehiko and his mercenaries – Hand picked soldiers of fortune by our shady transport chief, and armed to the teeth with a menagerie of cutting edge and exotic weapons from around the world. To arm the Imperial Army or especially the Marines and train them in use with these weapons would leave you a force to be reckoned with, even this side of the gate. Takehiko is a trader at heart and most of all, you get his Type 2 Ka-Mi amphibious tank prototype, a most tempting prospect. However, you will also Takehiko and his meddling ways.

Choose well, Taisa-dono. For you will be stranded 2 months with whomever you bring along.

Creating the beachhead and a firm foundation is most important. For that, we need men who will be loyal to us.
>>
>>25554628

What is known of the gate and its environs?

Are we expected to go deep within its environs or can we expect resupply.

If we only need to establish a beachhead then we ought to go for the best selection of troops we can get. If we are to interact with locals, the propaganda division is nice. If we are to go without reliable resupply the transport chief is the better choice.
>>
>[X] Elite Imperial Marines
> [X] Imperial Army
We're gonna be stranded for 2 months without help, we need security not any political nonsense or mercs whose loyalties [probably aren't ours.

Lets go with the Marines and the Army.

Dr. Fumio said it appears to be a bay, but that the cave drawings were crude and could be untrue. Ships seem to have passed through the gate. in the past, however.

>>25554847
Though you were fortunate to have avoided such unpleasantries, you can tell Sgt. Matsuo of the Army may not have been so lucky. How he and his men will react is entirely unpredictable (or maybe it isn't).

Four for the army and marines! A unanimous consensus
>>
>>25554903
The choice is made, your Army brothers and the Marines shall be your right and left fist to secure our ground in the new world.

You make your way to Takehiko, still awake in the early hours of the night, and tell him of your choice. His smile doesn't waver at your decision, however.
"Alright, you got it boss"

The final weapons are loaded onto the ships, standard arms found around any imperial regiment. Arisakas, type 96 machine guns, weapons you feel very familiar with. The IJA boys at the bar and the Marines at the barracks are woken by messengers, as is the rest of the town.
>>
>>25554948
6:00 A.M. The sky lights up, but the sun hides behind the clouds.

The preperations are in place, and the men have already boarded. The IJA seem a little groggy from festivities of last night (they seem to have arrived home just a few days ago) whereas the Marines are all attent and alert.

Banners and flags have been set up by the kempeitai, just more propaganda to you. Strangely, you see a large Taiko drum and men in ceremonial outfits.

Now loads a familiar sight. Dr. Fumio (remarkably cleaner) and his "little" sister Dr. Eriko. You personally welcome them aboard.

"Taisa" the doctor explains. He seems very calm, or is it tired? You seem not to know with the man. You then realize he's staring at something.

The Gate.

You actually take a good look at the thing for the first time. A giant structure of stone, covered in strange humanoid figures and markings. All about it, even stranger devices, wires, and cables.

"I really hope this works" you hear Dr. Fumio almost, seemingly to himself.
>>
>>25555019
"What do you mean hope this works?"
"Well, it's not exactly an error free process. I-"
"Nevermind, let's just hope for your sake and ours there are no errors, Hakase."

A little later, all preparations are ready and find yourself on the bridge. There seems to be some sort of ceremony led by the kempeita on the docks.

The time has come. Dr. Fumio speaks on the radio to activate the generators.
>>
>>25555053
There's an enourmous roar of machines, and sparks and lighting streak of the machinery around the gate.
Suddenly, you notice it.

The statues, they're moving. No. They're no longer statues.

They are alive.

As the gate opens, a tingling sensation all over, and a strange feeling of power emanates from the gate itself. Hairs of those around you seem to stick up, and the fear in the air is thick. The electricals and engine die for a second, and then turn on again.

Now all is quiet, save for the hum of generators and the ship. Everyone is still, frozen in fear.

It's then, you hear the drums. On the radio, you hear the shout of Taisa Hayato.

"Tenno heika banzai!"

>>25555126
That familiar shout and the drums rouse you from your hesitation. You step out the bridge, pick up the nereast flag you happen to see, and in the front of the ship to all eyes you shout one word.

"HAJIME!"

Captain Katio responds with a whistle, and cheers and banzai's erupt around you. You stand in the very bow of the ship, as it lumbers it's way forward.

"Imperialist"
"Lightning in the west. Burning sun in the east"

Troops:

>[ ] 20 Imperial Marines, excellent swimmers the lot of them too, and fighters unparralled

>[ ] 2 armored light gunboats, armed with Type 92 machine guns and supplied with knee mortar ammunition. These can hold up to 10 extra men and are the only way to land on the plain.

The castle is our biggest threat, take it down! However, we cannot risk word of our arrival spreading to ears unkown.

As the gunboats move to the river's mouth, the minelayer puts new holes into the castle walls and bit by bit the rain of arrows and rocks seem to diminish. However, ships on the dock are wreathed in flame, and smoke blocks your vision! Fire from both sides grow less and less accurate.

It's then Fukui gives a suggestion. "Taisa, please, move the ship closer to the plain and give me and my men the honor of storming the beach. It would allow you to have a clear line of fire on the castle."

"Taisa" captain Kaito responds "I cannot tell the depth of the water that close to the shore. There's a risk we might run aground"

Do we take such a risk?

Former dentist, part the medical corps. Apparently some bright light thought dentist was the equivalent of a doctor and put him with a bunch of other medical like but not really people (chinese medicinal practitioners like acupuncturists and moxi bustion specialists holy hell). He got a pretty high rank as a colonel (I think, it could have been Captain) and was sent off to South east Asia.

He got the shit beaten out him for putting effort in treating sick soldiers (like, malaria and such) because apparently Japanese soldiers are not like Westerners and never get sick. It in fact almost got him killed. For severely wounded soldiers, he had to treat them secretly and convince American POWs who were doctors to operate by bribery of food and other little things.

Almost got killed for it when he was caught trading bandages and fruit for medical expertise... luckily the soldiers he helped made sure that the officer in question had an unfortunate encounter with the enemy where he died a most glorious and honorable death sure to inspire all men of the empire.

So it is. We mount an attack!

Your gunboats continue to run circles around the fleeing ships, but the Sarushima moves into the lakeshore.
In but a few moments, you see those marines standing on the deck, utterly silent as they tie Hachimaki's around their head.

Guns wrapped in plastic, in unison they leap from the deck into the murky water and begin to swim. They're fast, faster than any Army soldier you've seen (who seem to all be hesistant about following and far more content firing). In but a few moments, Fukui himself steps foot on the shore and climbs up.

A change in perspective is in order no? Shall we lead our men to victory or shall we continue the fight from the saftey and security of the bridge?

Rolled 18

>>25556296
I think the worst story he talked about was how he didn't hide one of the severely wounded soldiers well enough. An officer found him hiding in a temporary shelter while the poor bastard was trying to recuperate from wounds.

Officer was a right bastard, gave the order:
"Takeyama Nitto-hei! STAND AT ATTENTION!"

To a guy, whose legs were riddled with bullets and infection held barely at bay with blackmarket penicillin that bunch of his fellow soldiers in his squad each sacrificed entire month's pay to buy.

The soldier couldn't follow the order. Apparently he tried, flopped helplessly around for a bit trying to. Then the officer got mad.

"If you cannot stand, then what use are you to His Imperial Majesty! This shameful cowardly clinging to life is wasteful, and besmirches the sacrifices of your fellow soldiers and your honorable dead comrades! You should have died upon the battlefield for the greater glory of the Empire!"

The officer fuckhead ordered men to drag the injured guy out, beat him with a stick til he lost consciousness and finally gave specific orders to carry the wounded soldier to a battlefield where he could at least fire his rifle at the enemy and have a 'glorious death' to earn the forgiveness of his comrades and Emperor.

Mind you, this story was really really hard to understand at first since my grandfather was talking about it after he was drinking heavily at a funeral. Apparently it was the funeral of the widow of that poor injured soldier he didn't hide well enough. My mother wasn't particularly amused at it's telling, I had to ask my father for assistance in understanding it. Apparently it was a lot more... graphic but he gave me a summary to supplement my understanding of it.

Your shout rings out, as the men charge forward into-

This. Not because we're invincible and more because we're a bunch of guys emerging from the smoke and fire to shoot bitches with rifles and submachine guns. They don't know people have landed on the gate and they're not used to people with explosives blowing one open. It is at this point that I must regrettably retire from the thread. I feel as though I haven't planned as far ahead as I should, and the quest isn't exactly running smoothly as planned.

I'm sorry if this quest didn't turn out as fun as Nazi Quest, I'll try to give a LOT of thought on it before I even plan to continue.n the meantime, please feel free to give suggestions and criticisms.

Also some build plans would okay.

All enemy ships are dead in the watter, or have surrendered. These are our first batch of prisoners so far.
>>
>>25556959
Eh, it's just getting to the good part.

So is the castle European medieval or Sengoku era?
>>
>>25556994
Sengoku era, albeit lacking the gun ports expected of the era's castles.

The flora and fauna of the landscape is also similar to that of Japan.
>>
>>25556959
Don't sweat it bro. I enjoyed it. I'm sure once you get the direction you want to head towards with the quest, it will pick up stride

As for plans:
-Once castle is fully secure, we start to repair the damage to castle defences.
-Fortifying and expanding the dock will be good for our ships and for future deliveries
-Once castle is secure, we will need a scouting part to check the roads and around the water.
-Securing the bridge and setting up an outpost on the opposite side to keep the gate protected

Cool, i'm not too familiar with Oriental-fantasy so I expect some cool surprises.

Thread is archived here.

I agree with all of that, but interrogation of the prisoners and ransacking any library they might have is essential before we start scouting.

That way we'll at least know who we're dealing with and won't unexpectedly stumble upon a major city or army of Oni.
>>
>>25557095
That is a good point. But the question will be will we be able to read their language? If we can't,lets hope they speak it (else we are going to need a magic item for translation) so they can tell us what it says and/or teach someone to read it
>>
>>25557009
Quick question. Is the castle built into the mountain? kinda looks like it from the map
>>
>>25557121
Any halfway decent castle of that size would have a scholar or advisor-equivalent. The Lord himself is unimportant unless he'd make a good hostage.
>>
>>25557160
The lower portion is, as were many ancient castles of Japan. The walls and major structures are wood however (which is why they were so easy to put holes in).
>>
>>25557171
>Any halfway decent castle of that size would have a scholar or advisor-equivalent
Thats good to know. Lets just hope he didn't die in the assault, yeah?

>The Lord himself is unimportant unless he'd make a good hostage
Guess we will need to check the castle dungeon to see how many it can hold. If it can't hold many, we will use it for VIP prisoners and we can set up a holding pin somewhere else in the compound
>>
>>25557200
Alright. Good to know

On the walls, we will need to either reinforce or rebuild with stronger material. It would be a good idea if we can to check if the mountain has any important deposits of minerals/resources we can use. We may be able to build a mine on the back wall of the castle if there is, so that the mine can be better secure and closer to where we can store it and work with them. (We will also need to find a storage area for materials)

NEIN! Continue forth, Rikugun Chusa! We may discuss how to advance your quest, and perhaps even find some parallels and fun things to draw forth. I am opening a thread if you are done for the night, but do not give up!
>>
>>25557319
Oberst-dono! You grace us with your presence.

I'd greatly appreciate that! I'd certainly have a few things to discuss.

Holy shit I fucking hate imperial Japan.
>>
>>25557519
So will the poor souls that live here.
Or will they?
>>
>>25557519
Yeah, it's important to remember, no mattter how much of a boner we have for panzers and Yamatos, that Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan were seriously fucked in the head.
>>
>>25557319
Sir when can we expect the next orders from Oberst Landa?
>>
>>25557539
And we did just as many bad things, some even worse. History is written by the victor afterall.

Meanwhile, in Switzerland. . .
>>
>>25557319
Imperial Japan AND Nazi quest at the same time? Bi-winning!
>>
>>25557568
meanwhile in nagasaki 1945.... oh wait
>>
>>25557554
That's...That's not an argument? Saying "Well, other people did bad things so we shouldn't care about bad things," is fucking fallacious.
>>
>>25557618
I'm not saying we shouldnt care. I'm saying we are just as bad. That's the way war is.
>>
>>25557580
In a perfect world we'd also have America in Native-American fantasy land.
or Soviet's in Slav-fantasyland.
Britain and Avalon?

Honestly I don't think the Brits or Yanks would be that fun to play, their ROE would be far too restrictive.

Russians would be cool though, especially if we played a Political Commissar or member of the NKVD and emphasized the whole communist aspect.

I was born in the wrong era. I don't know how.

Erm, instant messaging isn't an option right now. How does tinychat sound?

Left only with some trippy animalism plane of existence where everyone is changed into their spirit animal the moment they arrive.

Dancing for rain actually works, mass dance-offs result in flood-superweapons.
