Haha! Finally got my pastebin back! Time for VALKYRIAN MERCS QUEST!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Valkyrian%20Mercs%20Quest
Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/Vn3aa6XU

Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles

Last time we left off, we were in the middle of Tarin's side chapter, so let's just finish that up before getting on to the main quest!

You are TARIN, a young Darcsen partisan currently assaulting an Imperial police station in order to break your father out of jail. Your objective is to assassinate the station chief in order to put Imperial forces in this city in confusion while you make your getaway. The plan has gone... mostly to plan.

You just have to deal with two guards.

The guards are obviously distracted by all the chaos going on, and they're not exactly paying attention to you, much to your good fortune. You unload your rifle at them, downing one in the hail of fire and wounding the other. However, he's still active, and withe no time to reload, you've got no choice but to close in and finish him off.

The Imp is still trying to scramble for his weapon when you do a full shoulder check into his chest, slamming him into the wall and making the whole thing rattle from the impact. You pull out one of your improvised shivs and jam it into his neck. You then toss the gurgling and twitching body aside and kick the door open. You see the large and portly police chief busily trying to cram papers into a briefcase when he looks up at you in shock.

You both look at each other awkwardly before he starts to reach for his pistol.

However, even in his wounded state, the Chief has amazing quick reflexes. He sidesteps and the knife goes flying out the open window behind him. You silently mourn for the lost knife.

However, the Chief starts firing at you and you just barely manage to scramble back to cover, with a few new holes in your coat. Breathing heavily, you try to calm yourself down so you can figure out what to do next.

"Attention! All units! I'm under attack! Get over to my office and PROTECT ME!" You hear' the Chief's voice squeal over the station's intercom.

Now, you're not sure how many Imps are left alive in the station, but even one would be too much for you to handle at this stage.

Well.... you were hoping it wouldn't come to this, but it looks like you've got no choice. You kick down the door leading to the office adjacent to the Chief's, grab a chair, and toss it through the window.

That was the easy part.

Trying not to look down, you climb out of the window, standing on the perilously narrow ledge ringing the building. You've done this before, under more... discreet circumstances, but you never liked it.

Trying not to think about the drop below you, you take a deep breath and quickly slither your way across the wall towards the window leading to the Chief's office. Fortunately for you, the Chief is hunkered behind his desk and is concentrated on the door rather than the window. After all, who would be crazy enough to try and sneak in through the window on the second floor?

You quietly slip in and creep up to the chief like a predatory cat. By the time he hears your footfalls, it's too late. Your knife digs into the Chief's back and straight through his heart. He never even knew what hit him.

In order to make things hit closer to home, you decide to toss the Chief's body out the window. This is easier said than done, considering the Chief was rather "portly", and you were just fifteen years old. But you manage, and the Chief's body slips out the window and hits the pavement below with a loud SPLAT. You're rather satisfied with the ensuing screaming.

Unfortunately, you also hear heavy footsteps outside the office. Taking a peek in to the hallway, your stomach drops when you see four Imp police officers marching their way directly towards you, no doubt answering the now deceased Chief's summons.

You manage to safely reach the other office, breathing a sigh of relief having narrowly escaped certain death. Then you remember that you left behind that briefcase of obviously important documents.

"Stupid Tarin!" You scold yourself for making such a rookie mistake. You're better than that!

Fortunately, you can still hear the officers in the other room. They're obviously confused that the Chief isn't there.

"Where the fuck is the Chief?"

"I dunno!"

"Oh shit! He fell out the window!"

"What the-"

"You three! Go check him out! I'll secure the office!"

Peeking out the door, you see three officers dash out the hallway towards the stairs. Peeking into the Chief's office, you can see the briefcase, right there. You can just walk in and snatch it. No harm no fuss.

But... but that Imp is just standing at the window, still looking out at the Chief's body. It's just soooooo tempting....

No matter what, he'll always be your Dad first and leader second. You run up and hug him as tight as you can.

"Whoa, hey, Tarin, not in front of the men, it makes me look bad!" Your father laughs. "Okay, let's get out of here!"

With that, the partisans all pile into various disguised trucks, which then disperse throughout the city, making it impossible for the authorities to track you all down. They'll eventually link back up at a rendezvous point well outside the city.

"You did a good job out there, Tarin." You father smiles after hearing you tell your exploits in the station. "Chief Warstrom was one of the crueler Darcsen haters out there. One less to plague us."

"So, what now, Dad?" You say, eager for your next assignment.

Your father then frowns, which is never a good sign.

"There won't be another assignment. Not for you."

You blink. "Dad, what are you talking about?"

"I wanted to do this years ago, but I never had the chance to." Your father reaches into the briefcase and pulls out a stack of papers. You realize that they were passports.

"These things are the real deal. We had a sympathizer print these out for us, but the Chief confiscated them. They're travel papers to Gallia."

"But... why would the Chief..."

"Darcens aren't the only people who want to escape the Empire." Your father says sadly. "Genuine travel papers like these would cost a fortune on the black market."

"Then why don't you come-"

"I can't, Tarin. There's not enough of these for everybody in our group, and I can't just leave them here to fend for themselves." Your father shoves the paper into your hand. "This truck has all of our women and children in it. That way we can fight knowing our loved ones are safe. It's going all the way to Gallia."

"But-" You whimper.

"No buts. You've grown up so fast, Tarin, and that's what hurts me the most." You father sighs. "You've got a chance in Gallia. A chance for a normal life."

"I'm sorry, Tarin, I didn't want to do this." You father says, taking a deep breath. "As both your father and your superior, I ORDER you stay in this truck until it reaches Gallia. If you disobey, I'll have you tied up. Is that clear."

You bite you lip and try to hold back your tears. It's obvious your father isn't enjoying having to say these words, either.

"Understood." You capitulate.

"I'm sorry, Tarin. We'll meet again. I promise."

Suddenly, you hear a banging noise. You realize it's the driver pounding on the partition between the driver and passenger compartment.

"That's my cue." You father says, giving you one last hug. "Be brave for me, will you? Make sure this truck gets across the border safe. It's up to you to protect them."

"I got it, Dad."

"Until we meet again."

"Yeah, see you soon, Dad."

With that, your father leaps out he back of the truck and waves sadly. You return the wave as he reluctantly closes the door. And soon you're off to Gallia, whatever that is...

>And that's Tarin's chapter! Now back to the main story!

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You first arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact, and figh off an Imperial amphibious invasion by defeating their leader, Belkan Knight Sir Fleisher.

You've decided that it's now time to move on to greener (or at least more profitable) pastures. You and the Demons left Albion for the besieged nation of Ustio.

Your first mission went well enough, routing a platoon of Imperial soldiers threatening the city of Valais' supply lines. Then you destroyed an Imperial superheavy artillery battery, taking pressure off the city's beleaguered defenders and giving them a chance to counterattack. You also took care of a personal mission for Qyburn, and in return, he's given you a new and powerful (if only experimental) weapon! You also captured an Imperial sniper who you convinced to join your cause. You then managed to defeat the Indigo Heron, the Belkan Knight leading the Imperial forces in Ustio (well, technically, it was Isolde who defeated him, but the CO still gets credit!).

You then celebrated The Feast of All Saints, giving everybody some presents to strengthen your bonds with them. On that note, Sam now has a puppy she named Wotjek, who you're sure is going to grow up into a beast someday.

Currently, you're sitting bored on top of the Vergeltung's observation deck as you're flanked by a pair of Gallian destroyers. Your initial travel plan was to dock in Anthold so you could go visit Lanseal, Unfortunately, you were stopped by a Gallian Navy blockade, who then directed you to go north, all the way to Marberry, Gallia's northernmost port.

That... doesn't bode well at all.

You've tried asking the Gallian ships what exactly was going on, but neither of them has answered your requests.

Well, that's what you've got a spy for, right?

"Elizabeth, is your investigation done, yet?" You ask.

"Just about..."

"Things definitely haven't been going well for the Loyalists." Elizabeth frowns. "Apparently the GRA made a big push and managed to take Randgriz, along with Archduchess Cordelia. The Gallian Army and what's left of the government have evacuated to Ghirlandio."

"Shit." You scowl. "What about Lanseal?"

"I don't know how to put this, Captain, but Lanseal was hit." Elizabeth sighs. "It's still active, but no word on casualties or extent of damage. All secure lines of communication got cut off after Randgriz was taken."

You've got an ugly feeling boiling inside you right now. Not only are you deathly worried about Artya and Matt, but for Sam as well. You already know she didn't take the death of her older brother well. What would happen if she had reason to believe her younger when didn't make it, either?

Re-rolls are both very... um... small? Direct?

You only get to reroll one action, and there's no certainty that it'll succeed.

So re-rolls both seem to be very precious, because of how rare they are, but they also seem kind of... underwhelming. And limited in what they can do. It's 1 reroll. No guarantee.

If they worked more like Fate points, that might be more exciting.

"I guess we're going to have to tell everybody about this." You sigh. "The rumors are already starting to spread, and there's nothing worse to morale than rampant rumormongering."

"That's true." Elizabeth nods. "It's always a commander responsibility to not only give good news, but the bad as well."

"Yeah, just don't tell anybody about it before I do, okay?"

"Sure thing. Just to let you know, we're all worried about Artya and Matt as well. You and Sam aren't alone in this."

"Thanks."

You reluctantly make your way down into the depths of the Vergeltung. You suppose you should break the news to Sam first, in private. The last thing you need is to have her break down in public. Officers always have to put up a strong front, after all.

You find Sam in her office, busy trying to train Wojtek. He's already managed to learn a few basic commands, but Sam, being the perfectionist that she is, isn't satisfied until the little puppy can literally understand every word in the dictionary.

"Oh, hey Cap!" Sam says happily as you enter. "Just teaching Wojtek how to shake. See?"

Wojtek then raises his little paw in the air, prompting you to shake it.

"Good boy!" Sam cooes, giving Wojtek a treat to nibble on.

Seeing her so happy like this... it makes you feel really bad that you're going to ruin everything for her.

You decide to take it slow, not wanting to punch Sam in the emotional gut right away.

"So... I just managed to find out why we got rerouted from Anthold." You say in your best casual voice. "It looks like the GRA's been gaining ground."

"Yeah, but there's plenty of ports between Anthold and Marberry that we could use. Why would.... oh crap." Sam blinks at the realization. "How far did they get?"

"Randgriz. They even got Archduchess Cordelia hostage."

"Shit. Dad's going to be pissed." Sam shakes her head. "I suppose he's lucky he got transferred to Ghirlandio to oversee its reconstruction."

"Yeah, that's where I heard the government and military HQ got transferred to after Randgriz fell."

"Well, I guess he got what he wanted." She sighs. "A chance to prove himself as a general."

"There's also something else..." You sigh, preparing for the massive storm that was rolling in. "Lanseal was attacked."

You see Sam just freeze in place, like she was suddenly turned into a statue. Wojtek also feels the change in mood and whimpers in sympathy.

"H-ha ha, that's f-funny Cap, you can stop joking now!" Sam laughs awkwardly, her denial kicking in at full force.

Why do we even care about the blockade anyway, we're like the only non-imperial with a fucking U-boat, and only Albion and Imperials have any way to counter it at the moment

>Break the hug. You need to tell the rest of the Demons about this.

"Demons! I know you all know why we're here. Over the last months we've found ourselves accompanied by people who aren't Gallians, but that is no concern of ours.
We are the Demons of Randgriz. These rebels saw it fit to desecrate our namesake; Gallians or not we don't stand for such a disgrace. Not only that Lanseal, the new home of our dearest Artya was attacked. It's a shame then because Lanseal would be the last stone that blocked the gates of hell.
Our path is clear then, we go forward to liberate Randgriz then onto the very heart of the rebels. When we're done House Gassernarl will stand in ruin!"

Hope that enough.

>>25712103
Worst Valkyria in the series, big fucking deal
>>
>>25712057
She had no issues with experimenting on whoever she was provided and a lost life wouldn't weight much on her conscious. As long as she's around the whole concept of artifical Valkyur and using the real thing as nothing more than human weapons will always be a possibility. And odds are she'd tempt whoever she runs into using such projects.

>>25712103
That too, she didn't care much for someone who basically loved her like a mother.
>>
>>25711995
>But there is a living specimen for the Artificial Valkyria at Lanseal, so she'll probably stay, right?

Possibly, but Strawberry is hardly her ideal candidate, especially now that she has an 'attachment' to Zeri.

Did the headmaster still eat a bullet?
>>
Forgot to mention, if there are any Valkyria in our group, they will probably have the largest or above average bust size.
>>
>>25712129
compared to half of the antagonist in the series, she at least manage to have some degree of competence and most of the bad thing she did just kinda come with the character quirk of being a mad scientist.

nothing overly dickish, i mean sure she has no moral in her pursuit of science, but our R&D head created a village of ragnite zombies

the lack of morals at all can be quite severe as most villains have some sort of morals.

He came to REGRET it while she has no such regrets other than she didn't find a perfect subject.

She's basically the snake that tempts to eat the apple, the headmaster woudln't have gotten the idea of artifical Valkyur if not for her.

>>25712228
If any character's a Valkyur candiate it'd be Karla.
>>
>>25712228
Alicia wasn't packing, and she's probably the strongest Valkyria in the series
>>
>>25712267
I have a growing feeling that if we fight Karla, it'll be a duel starting with pistols, then switching to sabres until first blood, then hand to hand combat for last.
>>
>>25712228
just to further expand upon this, Darscens are not known for curves and I get the impression Julia's petite and Sam's more moderate. Elsa is hard to say, but Alek would know best.

>>25712285
In the game, she was nicely endowed (just her outfit wasn't making them stick out) and in the promotional materials, she's about on par.

That and it's very clear in VC2 that her future daughter will not be going thirsty any time soon.
>>
>>25712267
and if it wasn't for her, Gallia would probably be just a crater in the ground right now, so it's not like she doesn't have any inadvertent contribution to the greater cycle of karma

But this Darcsen has a nice ass:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxo9XXqcnBE
>>
>>25712200
True, but OUR guy has a soul. I prefer to think of it as Oppenheimer vs Mengele. Cause face it, her experiments are flawed crap and her method and procedures are a joke.

If you know a lot of the VC3 lore, Calamity Raven was a MUCH more legitimate Think Tank than Foerster's stuff. (There's implication that CR made the Rhum that Selvaria uses.) Not to mention CR discovered and reactivated a Valkyrur ICBM silo.

Qyburn knows he's created horrible things and believes in their use for war, but knows that he's done horrible things and tries to at least keep them in check!

Actually, I'm a little intrigued now, did Dahau and Calamity Raven ever have any contact with Qyburn?
>>
>>25712391
Maybe, but most of them are from the Empire and Qyburn is from Utsio which is Fed territory, so I don't think so.
>>
>>25712357
You forgot that was her days with the Imperials and her gifting of the Valkyrian stuff to Reilia was basically more data gathering than any act of good. That and she was basically responsible for the valkyrian reasearch the empire knew (and basically help made Selvaria the TMoMD everyone knows her as)

IIRC she left the empire after the events of VC1/VC3 and wound up at Lanseal.
>>
>>25712477
I'm not saying that Qyburn was a member, but maybe he traded letters with some CR members.

But we're derailing the plot. I apologize Merc.
>>
>>25711483
>Just as a note, Foerster leaves the school just like canon. After seeing what she was capable of, Julianna was no longer interested in staying a artificial valkyria.

You finally decide to break the hug, but you still keep your hands on Sam's shoulders, just in case.

"You got your head on straight now, Sam?" You ask.

"Y-yeah." Sam nods.

"Good, because I have to break the news to the rest of the Demons and I am not looking forward to that AT ALL." You sigh. "Just... just take a break, okay? No paperwork or anything like that. Just play with Wojtek. That's an order."

"Yes, Cap." Sam nods solemnly.

You then head back to the Vergletung's bridge, where you take the shipwide intercom from Davos and take a deep breath.

"Demons, crew of the Vergeltung, I know many of you are not native to Gallia, but I feel I must tell all of you this. As you all know, Gallia is in the midst of a civil war between the Loyalists and the Gallian Resistance Army. Today, I have found out that both Randgriz and Lanseal have been attacked by the GRA. This means that we have no idea what the status is on Artya and Sam's brother Matt. That said, I'm making it my personal mission o END the GRA, whether we're being paid or not. I can't force you to fight with me for free, but I'll pay you out of my own pocket if I have to. We'll be in port in a few hours. That is all."

You sigh as you put down the intercom. That was a rough announcement to make.

"I understand how hard it is, sir." Davos says apologetically. "I always took it hard when I had to announce ship sinkings."

The rest of the trip is spent in a sort of awkward silence. Nobody really knew what to say, but shit, you needed something to take your mind off things.

GEAR:

Gallian-A Rifle - 1000
Modified with a water cooling jacket, the Gallian-A is quite a bit heavier than the standard Gallian-1, but allows for a much faster firing rate.

Gallian-S - 1000
A rifle with an extended barrel, increasing accuracy and range.

Theimer Anti-tank Lance - 1000
A lance specialized to take down armor. Improved accuracy and armor penetration, but incompatible with frag rounds.

Mags M10 - 1000
The addition of a water cooled barrel to this SMG vastly improves fire rate and stopping power.

Flamethrower Attachment - 1000
A portable flamethrower that can be added on to most submachine guns, which can lay down a stream of destructive ragnite flames. Shocktroopers only.

Rifle Grenade Attachment - 1000
A modification for rifles that allows them to fire grenades over much larger distances. Scouts only.

Antipersonnel Mine - 1000
A simple mine that can be planted anywhere to act as a booby trap.

Howitzer Team - UPKEEP: 600
Mercenaries armed with a 105mm howitzer that can provide long range fire support.
>>

R&D

Spiderweave Armor (PROTOTYPE) - 1200
Constructed out artificial fibers several times stronger than steel, this cloth armor provides superior protection to standard Scout armor with no additional weight.

War Emergency Power (PROTOTYPE) - 2000
By disabling the mechanical limiters built into vehicle engines as well as injecting more efficient coolant directly into the engine, total horsepower is nearly doubled. However, has a high chance of damaging said engines.

High Velocity Armor Piercing Ammo - 1500
Specialized AP ammo that trades out the standard steel penetrator with tungsten, vastly increasing armor penetration with minimal change in weight. However, tungsten is a rare resource, so equipping HVAP increases a vehicle's upkeep by 200.

Reinforced Chassis - 2000
Allows the Gallian Tank Destroyer to mount the 88mm cannon.

Fenrir Heavy Upgrade Package - 6000
Upgrades the Type-36 Medium Tank to a Type-36 Heavy tank. Also includes one master upgrade.
>>
>>25712883
>Mags M10 - 1000
>Gallian-S - 1000

Don't buy shit. We need the money for paying upkeep.
>>
Some math.
11890 What we have | 2160 Upkeep

11890/2160 = 5 missions
(11890-2000)/2160 = 4 missions
(11890-3000)/2160 = 4 missions

Anything pass that will put us into only being able to pay for 3 or less missions. This assumes the upkeep doesn't go up any time soon.
>>
Do any of the Demon's know how to drive a vehicle? This would be beneficial if we get infantry transport.
>>
While saving money is nice, so is improving the basic core of our forces as a better offense can be a better defense.

>>
>>25713084

Yeah they can use frags, but every anti TANK lance shot we miss is very painful. We already have a lot of other infantry suppression from our two tanks and mortar crew.

Theimer is 1000, we have two lancers. The only other upgrade in that vein is the 88 for the tank destroyer which is twice as expensive.
>>
>>25713125
We're mercenaries, our enemies are basically a group of old fashioned bigot and foreign power puppetteer, and their MO include massacring darcsens and attacking schoolchildren and they just took over the rightful sovereign, we have every justification in the book to just pillage and loot the shit out of every combat we get into, I don't think our economical status is nearly that dire that we couldn't upgrade at least the troopers with better gun to doubletap bitches with
>>

>>25713224

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" You ask.

"Most likely not, but I know of you." The general smirks. "I make it a habit of mine to research the men my daughter is interested in."

Oh, OH. Now things made sense. This man was Sam's father. You vaguely remember her mentioning that he was a Gallian general.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." You say, returning the salute.

"Oh, I'm feeling anything but pleasure." General Wellings sighs. "I turn my back for one second, and next thing I know, half of Gallia, Randgriz included, is suddenly in GRA hands."

"I suppose you're in charge, then?" You ask.

"With the Archduchess being held prisoner, and no new Prime Minister appointed, the General of the Central Armies is next in line of succession... so yes, you can say I'm in charge of Gallia right now, or at least what's left of it." Wellings shakes his head. "By the way, can I see my daughter?"

"As you could probably guess she didn't take the news about Lanseal well, we don't know anything beyond them being attacked and no communications since, she's worried about Matt.

She might need some time before seeing anyone. But I'll leave that decision up to you."
>>
If we're not getting paid for this job, the Gallian military would at least help on maintenance and upkeep right? or are we still gonna be draining the same amount of ducat per mission?
>>
>>25713597
That's all wrapped into our upkeep, I believe.
>>
>>25713597
At this point the army has it's balls in a vice and now is the time for desperate measures not usually considered, like raising the militia to fight other Gallians and hiring mercs.

I'm sure we could work out a deal of some sort, depends on how the paperwork is worded.
>>
>>25713627
Errr... Miss read what you said. No. Not likely.
>>
I wonder if we can pass off the Demons as household troops or the like... Basically, rather than a mercenary company, they are "the soldiers Lord Stormfuhrer has gathered together to support/defend Gallia." ?

>>25713597

Hmm... Wonder if we can do more somehow....

Hey, I wonder if we can take the Vergeltung to do some hunting/privateering? (Is it still privateering if you're part of the military? ... Wait, ARE we going to be part of the military? Gah.)

Does the GRA have a navy? Because if it does -- well, we might be the only ones in Gallia that have an actual SUBMARINE.

We can make use of that.
>>
>>25713627
So, wait...I'm trying to remember the timeline. Has Gilbert had that little 'argument' with his son? Because if he has, then the WHOLE thing has changed. Cause then there's a Fed Ambassador who needs rescuing from Crazy McRacist Pants Who Wears A Stupid Tiara. Deals can be made.
>>
>>25713669
Lets not work with meta alright?

>>25713485
"Yeah, I'll call her over." You say. "But she's still a bit shaken up from hearing about what happened at Lanseal."

"Ah yes, I feared that would happen." Wellings frowns. "Samantha is terribly protective of Matthew. She's far too hard on herself whenever something happens to him."

"Have you heard anything new from Lanseal?"

"Not much." Wellings frowns. "We lost communication when we had to evacuate Army HQ. We're trying to set up a secure comm line, but it's proving difficult. But we do know for a fact that they're active. My scouts are reporting that the GRA's frontline units are suffering supply shortages, which means their supply lines are getting hit."

"That's encouraging." You nod.

"D-dad!" Sam comes running down the gangplank and hugs him, ignoring all military decorum. "Where's Matt?! Do you know if he's okay?!"

"I just told Captain Sturmfuhrer. We're not sure, but it's fairly likely he is. At the very least, Lanseal still has military capability from what we can determine, so their casualties can't have been that severe."

"O-okay...." Sam nods, not entirely convinced.

"Well, if you don't mind, I'm going to be busy blazing a path down to Lanseal, or Castle Gassenarl. Whichever one we come across first." You scowl.

"I'm afraid I can't let you do that." Wellings shakes his head. "Southern Gallia is a black hole. We have no idea what's going on down there, and we have other matters up here that require our attention."

"YOUR attention." You say. "We're not Gallian military, we don't have to follow your orders."

"No, you follow the person who hires you."

also doing things up north may help out the lanseal bunch indirectly.

Yeah, seriously though -- why don't we let Sam field this one?

... Actually -- we should probably play some variation on "Good Cop, Bad Cop" with Sam.

i.e. Make Wellings have to deal with both Jager and Sam. With Jager reluctant to commit if it makes Sam unhappy.

I figure we'd either get what we want, or we get more money?
>>
>>25713768
Yes, because Sam would to OH SO WILLING to try to nickel and dime her own father...
>>
This offer better be good. I mean it's Regular Rates + Sam's Cut + Artya's Cut + Satisfaction Of REALLY Enjoying These Kills Cut. It's got to be at least 4 times the current rate.

Oh and, to answer and earlier question, if I remember VC2 right, the GRA does indeed have naval power, thanks to some generous donations from the Feds. The last level takes place on a Fed Battleship.

We don't really need that much money, but we'd appreciate some help with our upkeep. This one's on the house.
>>
Try not to be too "honor before reason" here guys, charging into unknown turf may sound cool but it'll likely cause problems.

That and not considering the overall picture (sure the northern stuff might not have GLORY or such, but it'll ease things up for the normal forces which in turn will come down to the south afterwards)
>>
>>25713778
I vote we storm the south so hard that the next wannabe GRA would feel it
>>
>>25713688
>>Is that an offer?
>>
>>25713838
It's not as easy as it seems as the HQ is naturally fortified against nearly any attack, there's a reason why the final battle was at sea and not there.
>>
>>25713823

I suppose Jager might value "what hurts the GRA" more sort of thing then?

So what would be a convincing argument for him, would be something like "We need somebody to rescue the Archduchess" or "We need somebody to strike a very decisive blow at the GRA" or the like.

"Is that an offer to hire our services?" You ask.

"I can't offer much, but I can give you more than enough to offset your costs." Wellings says.

"That's pretty generous of you." Sam blinks.

"Well, because I know better than to try and haggle with you." Wellings shrugs.

"But wait, I thought Cordelia has a 'no mercenaries' rule?" You point out.

"Normally, Cordelia would be reluctant to hire mercenaries, but at this point I need every able body I can get and considering I'm the acting sovereign of Gallia at the moment, there's nobody here that can stop me."

"Must be pretty nice, being able to run your own nation." You whistle. "Maybe I should try getting into that business."

"Don't." Wellings sigh. "It's a pain in the ass. Trust me. I just want to go back to worrying about the Army. Anyways, I won't be sending you south. Not right away, at least, but the things you do up here will be critical for the overall war, not just for Lanseal."

Hmm, so it does allow the prospect of heading south *eventually*... Geh.

And if we're not hired, we probably are going to have a LOT more trouble operating aren't we?
>>
>>25713897
>Consider us hired

We came in expecting nothing, now we get money and intel, I'd say take it for at least a few mission before heading off on our own to open up route to lanseal if it's taking too long
>>
>>25713897
>>25713930
"How critical?"

That's what I want to know as well.
>>
>>25713897
>>Okay, consider us hired

If we can get the north in order, the south'll become easier to handle.

>>25713930
Yes for a mix of reasons. Intel, cost, communications.
>>
>>25713930
Pretty much. We'd get no support, we go in blind, not knowing what's happening around us, save what we can scrounge up ourselves.
>>
>>25713897
>>Okay, consider us hired. But only if you send us to the south as soon as possible.
>>
>>25713897

Now that we have a source of income again I would suggest getting the Theimer, and Rifle grenades. Between the gun upgrades and the rifle grenades we are pretty set for anti infantry power. The Theimer would give us a big boost in antitank power for a low price.

We should look into some motorized transport for the squad too, that would let us get around faster and carry more gear with us. Since we are back in Gallia where we bought our tank it shouldn't be too hard to get some.
>>
>>25714131
I would hold off on getting any more gear until we know we're heading south. Right now all we'll be getting upkeep.

If we're not heading South in a timely* fashion we'll most likely void this contract and raid the south ourselves.

>>
>>25714163
Personally, I'm giving it three missions. If we're not heading south by the forth well... Elizabeth and Sam should have dug up enough intel for us to use to plan a rapid attack to Lanseal.
>>
>>25714163
Then some actually as he did say "more than enough to cover your expenses" which imply some gain.
>>
>>25713897
>but I can give you more than enough to offset your costs
And then we hire twenty mortar teams.
>>
>>25714335
Hmm... but enough to keep us tied down?
>>
>>25714359
you're assuming doing stuff up north won't benefit the south somehow, which isn't true. If we kick enough ass up northing, the GRA would likely start diverting man power up there, making it easier for Lanseal to attack form their end.
>>
>>25713897
"Okay then, consider us hired." You say. "We could always use a source of income."

"Excellent." Wellings nods. "We'll be ready in a few weeks, once I can get the needed men an supplies together."

"And what will we be doing in the meantime?" You ask.

"Well, do some training, get some rest." Wellings shrugs. "Isn't your family estate not far from here?"

"Well, yes..."

"Well, there you go. Go check up on your lands. I'll send word when we're ready to move." Wellings says. He then gives you a respectful nod as he goes off to take care of other matters.

"So, what now, Cap?" Sam asks.

"It looks like I'm going home." You sigh.

>And that's it for tonight! Next thread is Saturday night, 7-8pm PST!
>>
>>25714386
I'm weighing two things here. One Jagars Character and If we're heading south. These are two things really matter in this.

I really don't see Jagar having the patience for a prolong ground and pound here. If he's not seeing his Demons moving in some way. I have no doubt he'll pull out and opt for a straight Demon push to Lanseal.
>>
>>25714163
Also we should get as much recon and intel as we can and get upgrades as we need them. Going over the list one last time:

>Gallian-A Rifle - 1000
We don't need these anymore because we have the -S version.

>Theimer Anti-tank Lance - 1000
>Rifle Grenade Attachment - 1000
These are general upgrades we should get asap. If upkeep is met we can easily afford them.

>Flamethrower Attachment - 1000
>Antipersonnel Mine - 1000
>Spiderweave Armor (PROTOTYPE) - 1200
These are highly situational and we should only get them before doing heavy urban combat. Which we will probably end up in if we do any fighting in the capital.

>Reinforced Chassis - 2000
This will greatly increase our tank power at a relatively low cost.

>High Velocity Armor Piercing Ammo - 1500
Ditto for this one, but we should only get it if we expect to face a ton of tanks which the GRA probably don't have.

>War Emergency Power (PROTOTYPE) - 2000
Too risky, I wouldn't chance using this on our tanks. However if we get some half-tracks or other vehicles we could have some redundancy in case one of them breaks down.

>Howitzer Team - UPKEEP: 600
>Fenrir Heavy Upgrade Package - 6000
These are really awesome but should wait until we get back to fighting imperials again.

Does Gallia have much of a navy for that matter?

I doubt either of them have anything that could detect a submarine much less fight one. Which gives us a huge advantage.
>>
>>25714460
>>Fenrir Heavy Upgrade Package - 6000

By far the most useful.

>Gallian-A Rifle - 1000
We can use too weapons people. Due to the weapon strap we bought so many threads back.

>Flamethrower Attachment - 1000
BURN BABY BURN.

is my thoughts really. We will get paid a decent amount later on anyway so.
>>
>>25714522

Yup.

I was thinking one of the things we could do to kill time -- besides visiting our own estate -- was maybe harass the GRA at sea.

Though I suppose we could keep it hidden instead, until the time we use it as a trump card when we really need it.
>>
>>25714522
wiki says they have 10,000 naval personnel, but nothing on how many ships
>>
>>25714522
Destroyers and smaller ships can be outfitted for anti-sub warfare fairly quickly and cheaply.
>>
>>25714467
The GRA has limited naval assets. The Loyalists outgun them in that front.

>>25714474
>>25714483
You will soon.
>>
>>25714551
Yeah but detection is half the battle. They must have some sort of sonar tech for the minelayers at least because they obviously don't find the mines with their face. If they lack that capability they will be reduced to spotting it at night with a searchlight or throwing out tons and tons of depth charges.

Speaking of which I wonder if Qyburn could come up with some underwater detection equipment for the sub if it doesn't have any already. I would hate for it to hit a mine.

I imagine the Imps would have already developed Hydrophones for their u-boats...
