I'm back from vacation now, so it's time for some Deadciv again. Last time we found out that Umhar's attempt at White Necromancy ended up creating a vampire out of the shaman girl. Then Artak commanded Umhar to tame the newspawned vampiress. She is currently off doing whatever, but she should be back by dawn seeing as the butcher's basement where you kept her while transforming would essentially be her resting place, and she probably doesn't know how to change it.

Study Magic about taming the vampiress

Minions can search the shaman hovel for anything we can use, supervised by Neyakla.
>>
>>26301161
you don't have a play for them to learn and they lack the creativity to make one from scratch

>>26301172
>>26300937

Umhar gets to studying magic, trying to develop a control spell. He makes some progress, but it is far from done.

Neyakla is tailing the vampiress, but the axeman skeletons can loot a hut themselves. They bring back a bunch of shamanic totems and stuff. Entirely useless to you, but maybe of some relevance to the vampiress.

She returns at dawn, enters the butcher basement and falls into the vampire's death-like sleep. Neyakla returns shortly after and reports that she first went to her hut and sat for a while, then succumbed to the Thirst and headed north out of the woods where she attacked, drained and killed a shepherd sleeping among his sheep. When she regained her sense of self from the bloodrush, she went to sit atop a cliff until dawn was very close, then suddenly rushed back to Umhar's camp and the basement.

Welcome back OP. Send out some scouts to try to find more humans. We need a food source from her and we need to be seen as the ONLY source of food for her.
>>
>>26301863
The day passes with Umhar resting himself so as to avoid Mana Fatigue, then as night draws close he approaches the vampiress' resting place. After waiting beside her motionless form for a few minutes, she opens her eyes and stares at the ceiling. Another few minutes pass before she turn her head to look at Umhar. "What do you want?" He voice is still quite hostile, but there is an undertone of something else as well beneath, and she does seem more calm now than last time you tried to talk to her.
>>
>>26301958
Tut at her like an obvious superior. Don't respond just wait for her to say something. else. She needs to learn her place. Wait for her to break mentally first.
>>
>>26301958
"What I want? That's a loaded question. I want many many things, some of which are quite impossible to acquire at this time. But for now, I'd like to talk to you about yourself."

Tell her what happened. Tell her we sent the undead to see if she'd be amenable to discussion and she attacked us. So we defended ourselves and wanted to heal her. Problem is, you gotta be undead to behealed by unead.
>>
>>26302022
>>26302080

You wait for a while but nothing comes of it, she should be battling bloodlust, but she doesn't give any clear signs of it. Then again, Neyakla's report indicated that she almost beat her self-preservation instinct and stayed out till sunrise before breaking.

Umhar: "What I want? That's a loaded question. I want many many things, some of which are quite impossible to acquire at this time. But for now, I'd like to talk about yourself."

She looks at Umhar blankly for a few moments before responding "Myself. What is there to talk about? You erased my former existance and turned me into a monster. There is no 'me' to talk about."

Umhar: "For one with no self, you certainly seem to possess oppinion. Twice, now, you have called the state of undeath abominable and monstrous, but it wasn't I who attacked you."

She snorts and cuts Umhar off, responding "And what was the skeleton beasts swarming at my home then?"

Umhar continues calmly "An attempt at a peace offering. You had attacked my servants unprovoked and I sought a peaceful solution. They carried a message and a gift. When attacked they defended themselves and you were hurt fatally. I sought to heal your wounds but necromancy is ill suited to tend to the living. Turning you undead was not my intention, but it may well have been your only chance to escape death."

Vampiress: "I would rather have died than become one of the foul undead" She doesn't seem too convinced though.
>>
>>26302278
Scoff at that again. Do you think one such as me is truly foul? I was a priest in life just as such I am a priest of death. Undeath is just a tool as is healing magic. I shant be judged for your preconceived notions. Not when your life is owed to me.
>>
>>26302343
I agree with this.
>>
>>26302343
Umhar: "Do you think one such as me is truly foul? I was a priest in life just as such I am a priest of death. Undeath is just a tool as i-"

Vampiress: "Undeath is abominable. Undeath is an affront to nature. Th-"

Umhar remains calm, but with a sterner tone of voice when he cuts her off "I shan't be judged by your preconceived notions. Not when your life is owed to me."

Vampiress: "Owed to you? I owe you nothing, I neither asked for nor wanted this. My soul belongs to the Spirits of the Wild, and you have done nothing but imprison it. I owe you no more than an imprisoned innocent owes her jailors."

At her mention of the Spirits of the Wild, a flash of memory from Umhar's past life goes through his mind. Spiritism is one of the countless forms of heresy known to the True Church. The followers of the tenants of spiritism tend to be unorganized and among the ones interrogated, many things have been inconstant. Some abhors the undead as much as the Faithful, while other spiritists accept the dead and even practice necromancy. All of this, Umhar recalls being told by someone when he lived. An Inquisitor perhaps?

Use the memory, the connection is obvious we must ease her into them. It won't be hard, her religion has problems in this area take advantage of the schism. Necromancy is a perfection of the reincarnation cycle, a true necromancer and most liches can even be considered in a form of nirvana due to their eternal status. There is no evil, only perspective.

>>
>>26302697
I can accept it, just weave the theme of natural undeath and equilibrium into the general idea of it. Her animistic beliefs will easily pick up on the greater ideal.
>>
>>26302705
I'll go with >>26302651 as it seems to be the same as mine.
>>
>>26302732
Hell there is necromancy in nature itself. Some trees have died hundreds of times only to pop back out of the ground as a cloned tree because of the expansive root system that is still thriving.
>>
>>26302756
Which would be why some of the spiritists do Necromancy.
>>
>>26302580
Whether you wished for this state or not is irrelevant now. You can now either learn to control yourself, burn under the light of the sun, or resist and eventually lose only to become a monster far more horrid than I. I can help you.... if you let me. And if you change your mind "redemption" is only a sunrise away.
>>
>>26302773
So explain our superior position in the cycle and put it rather bluntly that you are the only way to continue towards perfection in the cycle.

Umhar: "And you were told this by the 'True Church'? The one who call your beliefs heresy?"

She doesn't respond and after a moment Umhar continues.

"Necromancy is Death incarnate, and Death is a part of nature, just as Life. You have brothers and sisters in faith who know that this is true and who harness necromancy themselves. Undeath is no abomination, undeath is evolution. Reincarnation is but a soul spending half the time in the world of the living and the other half in that of the dead. Undeath is spending all your time straddeling the boundary. In the end, they are one and the same, only undead is more... efficient, evolved."

Umhar pauses his speech, letting it sink in before continuing "In the end, though, it doesn't matter if you wished for your state, nor if I did. You are what you are now and you have three options. You can try to deny what you are, loose the fight and become a feral beast, murdering shepherds and hermits and whatever else crosses your path-" she visibly pales at the mention of shepherds "- you can seek your 'redemption' in the morning sun. Or you can accept what you are and try to retain control of your thirst. But without assistance, the latter is all but doomed to fail. Let me help."

A long moment passes before she speaks. "I.... Tell me how to avoid murdering and I will consider it."

> cont.
>>
>>26303027

Umhar: "Feed on animals. It will not sate the thirst, but it will delay the inevitable. Give you time to think."

She considers for a moment, nods and leaves to hunt.

Also, you need to name the new Vampire Clan.
>>
>>26303038
Since we have a reptilian benefactor I suggest we name the clan something along those line. The Thirsting Viper or some nonsense. Also let's research human skulls to act as lookouts and sentinels. Atleast try to get vision and scouting ability. Use it to try out some algorithms for the main spell research. Someone else manage the skellies.
>>
>>26303038
Send a skellie out to capture a live animal.
Offer it to the vampiress on her next waking as a meal and a gift of good will.
Have her consume the creature in or near the graveyard.
Study magic to quell vampiric hunger.
>>
>>26303072
Ney can manage the skellies for simple tasks. Once the vampiress comes around she can manage them for more or less anything. As for scouting, the rat's been doing a sort of decent job so far, making it a bit smarter would go a long way. As well as making more small animals. You'd probably need to make ghoul birds instead of skeleton ones if you want them to fly though.

Also, as you may or may not recall, you have a spell that allows you to explore the chapel itself.

(This is just me trying to make sure you know all your options, really.)
>>
>>26303038
Tell her that its okay to feed off the blood of the unrighteous, and criminal. Call the clan the Judicari. Eventually its a black joke, but in the beginning it might mean something to her... especially if you convince her only to turn the brave and good heh

Curses of course. Go for the research then. Let's prepare a little mission for our vampiress when she wakes. Feed her with the captured animal then send her to investiagte the chapel. Also will test her resistance to hollowing and holy magic, it's best to do a more controlled field test of such a thing anyway.
>>
>>26303194
.... perhaps getting her burned by holy magics would reinforce her opinion of herself as a monster... we could surreptitiously cast holy resistance on her first while she sleeps
>>
>>26303282
*Shrug* That'll just add to her confusion. We will always be the steadfast rock. She will learn and bend to our will. Confusion makes minds easy to mold.
>>
So the consensus is research while Ney and the skellies hunt, then holy resistance on her and have her check the chapel while Umhar rests?
>>
>>26303305
Agreed.
>>
>>26303294
We could cast holy resistance on ourselves and go in with her.... that way we appear unaffected. Then when the pain becomes to much for her we "save" her by casting the spell on her.
Perhaps with a nice speech about how the popular faith is incorrect.

>>26303356
This is possible, but you'd have to either hold off on the magical research thing (what topic did you want to research BTW, there seems to be 2 or 3 floating about) or risk Mana Fatigue. Which is bad.
>>
>>26303409
How about we focus the magic towards magic resistance and apply it to the hallowed portions we havn't touched yet. Use skeletons as ward points or something fun.
Captcha: spPcto innovation
>>
>>26303426
holy reistance*
>>
>>26303426
Agreed. How bad is mana fatigue? We might wish to give her a few nights to adjust.
>>
>>26303453
Let's wait, but we could push the envelope make a focus circle out of bone dust in a sigil of Artak and just push the super hallowing out with the research once we get it done.
>>
>>26303453
For a regular, living spellcaster, mana fatigue can be anything from severe headaches and inability to magic for a few days to comatose for months. Since you're a Spellwight (similar to lich, but without the phylactery business), you run on Necrotic Mana, so it can outright kill you in severe cases.

Okay, I'll have a call for votes now. Sending Ney and Co. hunting is decided, but you'll need to figure out if
> a) do research and send vampiress on the chapel trip alone
> b) do research and go with her on the trip
> c) no research, go with her on the trip
> d) no research, make the trip alone
> e) hold off on the trip alltogether.

Also, everyone vote for a topic of research, in case we end up doing one of those options.

Umhar begins researching a spell to confer the holy resistance in an area. This will probably take a few days. In the meanwhile, Ney and the skeletons go out hunting and brings back a live, but unconscious boar. According to Ney they found it like that, heavily wounded.

> bring it to the vampiress yourself and have a chat
> just leave it for her
> write in
>>
>>26303681
Rest until the boar is just about to die. The moment of death and the first bite should be simultaneous it will have the most vigor and replicate human blood the most. We shall bring it to her, don't relay that fact just use it to slowly control her strength in case she gets uppity.
>>
>>26303681
Bring it to her ourselves. Physical proximity is key to the type of trust and obedience we want to instil. Plus she begins to associate us with the pleasure of satiating her urges. Also we get to manipulate/talk to her.
>>
>>26303681
We should bleed the pig and put the blood in a container. We should be thoughtful of her desire to not act like a monster so drinking from a container like a cup will allow her a little bit of satisfaction knowing she doesn't need to feed like a monster but a human. We should give it to her ourselves then use that pig and raise it. No doubt meaty pigs are stronger than skeleton pigs
>>
>>26303702
Try this!
>>
My opinion is that puts to much emphasis on remaining human. We want to distance her from that and make her accept undeath. It's her only fate.

>>26303714
>>26303739

You wait until the boar is on the very verge of death, then bring it to her. This is a bit after sundown, but she hasn't left the basement yet for some reason, so it all works out. Upon seeing the prey you brought, she pounces it, either assuming correctly its purpose, unable or unwilling to restrain the thrist in the face of such easy prey or both. After drinking her fill, or as much of a fill as animals provide anyway, she looks at Umhar for a long moment, seemingly struggling with herself before she speaks "Thanks"

A mysterious knight who was always shrouded in armor and weilding only a shield he would defend lone travellers and small outskirts from bandits, rampaging ferals and wild ghouls. He would defend human and wildborn alike, followers of the Tome and the Blade, or the 'True Church' as they call themselves, and spiritsts alike. He saved my-" She stops herself then proceeds "He saved many of my kin from that time... He found shelter among Wildborn settlements and human villages alike, all owing him a debt of thanks. But the Tome and Blade called him a heretic and an abomination, claimed he was undead, and purged the villages that had housed him. Yours was one of them. One of the purge squads went for a Wildborn camp as well where they believed the knight to be, but they were never heard of again, neither were the knight."
