11th day of Prophecy, 10:15 am, inside one of the ambush sites in the region of Hrotio, Zipangu.

Inquisitors, Purifiers and Knights had clashed viciously inside the heavy forest of Objective A, all around you clashes of steels and metals resounded viciously, only to disappear back into the heavy trees, swallowed by the thick vegetation even as many of the wooden trunks were felled by particularly potent magical attacks; from lightning to magical burst as well as phantasm of fantastical monsters summoned by the denizens of Zipangu.

This was a true all-out war right at the dawn of the second field battle of the crusade, the reason for such gratuitous loss of life and precious personnel between the orders was simple; the Church sniffed a trap and wanted to uncover the truth, suspecting something that would heavily the core of the army.

But now, as you look at the ten or so bodies of felled Inquisitors and Purifiers whose heart have been ripped out of their bodies, the picture forming in your head become something else, something a bit more sinister and devious; today the monsters targeted these highly trained operatives and inflicted as much casualties as they could.

That’s something that Tsukiyomi would come up with; reducing the effectiveness of her enemy elite order through sheer amount of body bag and taking advantage of fighting on her own soil as much as possible.

Of course, now you are facing a very peculiar and angry problem that is, at the very least, not a fully powered Hero hell-bent on revenge.

With the illusions gone, the oppressive, unnatural forest disappear to reveal a scenery that actually belong with the nature of the forest and now, a glaring lizardwoman is eyeing you and your benefactor with a long, elongated humid arm leaking a constant, disgusting black tar; her eyes remind you of topaz as they shine brightly and clearly unnaturally while her neck support a strange talisman that stopped projecting its short lived ritual and settled on a short magical buzz.

‘’I knew you were coming’’

A rasp and frustrated voice, Athena slowly lever her arm above her head, the long, serpentine limb with ferocious finger-claw give you the impression of a serpent ready to pounce and, given how fast is struck Leila along with the collection of corpse all around you, you’ve no doubt that this past knight went into an extensive study of her arm.

‘’The link?’’

You ask through the mask, making no sudden movement as Leila slowly get up on her feet.

‘’Maybe’’

Athena scaled hand start clutching her amulet and, with one strong pull, she break the magical beads by pulling it, the small blue circle disappear right into the magical items and fuel it once more, although barely enough for anything of consequence; you doubt the thing could launch a fireball, it’s almost exhausted.

‘’I won’t pretend to understand your change of heart, but I have my home to protect’’

Her voice is shaky and hoarse, repressed emotions showing in her eyes and snarl, Athena start wiggling her long fingers, the utterly unnatural position of her arm make it look like she has several joint in that demonic appendage.

Then, Leila put a hand on the Holy sword and you reflexively hold your hand at the Purifier, which cause the lizardgirl to jump backward, placing some meters between you and your partner as she let out one long breath, tension escaping her shoulders.

You could try diplomacy some more if you wish, or maybe ask Leila to leave you alone… either way, the tension is thick beyond belief another sudden move and things will inevitably erupt in open hostilities.

I think we should tell Leila to fall back, find those mercs we were told about, and order a general retreat from this trap.

From a [Crusader] tactical view, there's no reason to continue throwing good operatives into a what is obviously a well prepared trap, that is continuing to eat up valuable assets. We know the trap is here, and it will give Zipangu time to rotate fresh troops in. Those reinforcements are going to arrive regardless of the Purifiers and Inquisitors getting through the trap, and will be in place by the time the main army arrives.

For us, though, it gives Siegfried a chance to speak with Athena in private, especially if Leila gets rid of those 4 mercs for us. And Athena got rid of her amulet, so our Link should be working again.

It is with a slow, deliberate movement that your bring both of your palms forward, showing Athena your non-hostility as best you can, which provoke a nervous twitch from the once knight followed by a small backward jump near the underbrush, her hovering demonic arm almost ready to pounce which, in turn, almost provoked Leila into a charge but your voice put an end to any hostility.

‘’Leila, I need you to retreat’’

Of course, this provoke clear confusion on both of the girl, Athena crouch low to the ground in an obviously defensive stance as she clutches her amulet in her human hand while the emotionless Purifier simply stand ready for combat, which motivate you to continue.

You stop momentarily, the overflowing magic from the illusion give you renewed Focus and energy, your thought fly fast and strong, it barely take a second for your moment of thoughts to feel like a minute; every single movement of the lizard girl feel sluggish and predictable, this sensation of pure raw might fills your rain with dangerous euphoria.

‘’If you could find and get rid of these 4 mercs, I’d appreciate it’’

In your mind, your order makes sense given that it is precisely within the orders of your partner whose emotions have been suppressed by the mask; you can already tell that she came to the same conclusion as she let out a disgruntled groan of frustration, quite the uncharacteristic event given the effectiveness of the mask.

Leila doesn’t bother to say anything, she quite simply start running in the opposite direction, back into the forest while Athena follow her every movement like a paranoiac hawk, no words between the two of you are exchanged, she simply exit your field of view with a lowered head of shame, going back the way you came with only a single sound of ruffled leaves.

You finally call out to your friend and crush now turned potential foe, Athena current position make it very hard to see her face but the snapping of her jaw is telling enough.

Not even 10 seconds after Leila disappear, you feel a slight magical burst followed by a malicious metallic crack which quickly transform into an impressive magical show; a bright red rectangle fly toward the sky, phasing through leaves, branches and trees as it lunge upward to explode in a brief, short lived shower of sparks.

The fog acting as barrier for your Soul Link finally clear and you can’t help but wince as pure raw pain, anger and sadness form a physically painful cocktail of emotions that squeeze your heart dry.

Despite this clear hostility, Athena has yet to strike.

The surge of anger coming from the link warn you even before you heard the sharp sound of fast movement cutting into the wind; Athena arm launched itself into the nearest tree and imbedded itself fuller, the entire length of the wet, demonic limb grow in muscle as a strange pulse ran over its surface, cracking and splintering the woods amazingly fast, literally ripping apart half of the trunk and throwing it in your general direction in a thunderous sounds of groaning nature.

You, quite simply, freeze the trunk midair through a prodigious wave of magical water; a large splash nestled in your palm and you send it forward, immediately freezing it solid when the water came in contact with the air, creating a momentary monument as the large tree was literally stuck in the air, robbed of all momentum.

The lizardgirl push herself onto the iced over trunk of trees, her large hand having shrunk to accommodate her new position; crouched low enough for her real to touch her new platform, legs tense and compressed with the demonic arm in between them, just about ready to launch herself skyward.

You feel the pure raw energy of magic filling your veins, traveling your body at insane pace, renewing the tingling, euphoric sensation you had during your momentary overdose as Focus take hold; increasing concentration, awareness and reflexes.

The ice covered trunk is already under your control; while hard to dominate it is still a mere tree and as such, possesses barely a fraction of presence compared to a human, you feel a sling sensation of movement behind your eyes… you’re ready.

Athena demonic arm dig into the ice for support as she lean forward a little… that’s when her grip disappear into evaporated water, you changed the very nature of the ice into something else in barely a second, but already Athena reaction time and self-defense instincts kicked in.

Round pieces of ices as big as a fist and fitting for slings fly out from behind you; you’ve got a good 5 to 7 meters of distance, meaning that she is well outside your sphere of influence and your hear several painful thunk as many of your spells find they’re marks in painful contacts, you grit your teeth as the pain filter through the link as Athena land in the vegetation, her heavy body breaking branches, trampling woods and the out of control arms slashes across your spells blindly…

Then you hear the deafening crack of another murdered trees, Athena arm extended to grab another trunk but this time, she didn’t break it, instead the slimy, wet arm reel her in into the branches and you start peppering with constant rocks to keep the pressure, standing your ground and summoning your plate armor.

You miss your second chance.

You heard the girl cough and felt the very delicious taint of corruption inside the tree, what followed was the lizardgirl jumping down fast by literally springing her feet for a downward charge, her speed was too much for your spell to hit and the girl literally imbedded her arm in the very ground, twisted her body for a frontal flip, you saw the demonic appendage bulge and flare up as impossible muscles and magic combiner to literally tear off a piece of dirt and shape it solid, sending a very, very lethal projectile twice as large as you barrel in your general direction… the entire world slow down as death close in.

Athena quick aim is much, much better than anticipated or she just got lucky, either way, this patch of dirt turned makeshift rock is flying right for your center mass and you are in the middle, your legs aren’t good enough for you to jump over and it’s too close to the ground for going prone, meaning that you have a single choice and it is meeting force with force.

The raw energy of magic bubble and your supercharged mind identify the needed magical supply, your veins burns at the sudden increase of magical power, the intense impression of godhood almost shatter the peace and resolution of Focus as you unleash your defense; a powerful splash of water surge forth from your front and immediately turn to ice as it touch the projectile whose speed shatter the first line of defense, but it already went of course and come crashing into the inner layer of the wave-turned-ice.

Aaah you feel a strong momentary sensation of lost…but quickly replace with sheer adrenal as Athena appear at your right flank outside of your sphere for a single meter, her arms shoot upward and suddenly bent unnaturally in a sickening crunch as she reel in her elbow, the claw aim for your neck in a particularly vicious downward strike!

Battles are always incredibly fast, even the best forethought is nothing compared to the blinking speed and observations needed for actions; you spent a great deal of magic to stop the rock and now, as the murderous whipped claw descend toward you faster than an arrow, it enter your zone of influence and you immediately predict that the aim is slightly of course, you need only to twist your body and slide for half a centimeter then..!

The armor of your neck is grazed and pierced by her extended thumb that was, much fortunate for you, stuck vertically; Athena put all of her finger together to form a very, very deadly spear point that would have pierced your plate like paper.

Athena already realize that she miss even before the swing was halfway done and the girl crouch for her own counter attack, however, you’ve been presented with an opportunity… as you realized her mistake faster than she did.

Your body twist out of reach and you focus your aim toward Athena, the girl expression look strangely hollow, her skin is too pale for a soldier, the scales on her face have slightly opened as sweat pour down her face, her demonic arm start reeling in, the sound of a disgusting slurp resonate and you send a blunt projectile right at the edge of your Sphere of Influence, meaning an exact 2 meters, with a force rivaling an arrow; it cut through the air magnificently and Athena can only do so much to twist her face out of the way…

The «Thunk» makes you wince and the pain of your tightening jaw is nothing comparing to what you feel through the link, as well as the vision of the bloodied Athena falling to the messy floor, the back of her head knocking the ground before her body as it twisted awkwardly by the strike.
She’s still conscious, you can feel it.

However before you can do anything else, you find yourself interrupted by events beyond your control; a large, hollow «Boom» literally burst in the sky above and the entire area is buffeted by winds strong enough to break branches, scratches patch of dirt and transform rock into nasty projectile, you immediately protect yourself in an awkward sphere of ice and look upward.

Through the cleared tree, the beautiful blue sky see a duel of its own ; three individuals are flying without a care for g-force and basic law of physic, making impossibly tight turn to clash against one another incessantly, it’s an obvious 2 versus one that look very much in favor of the lone individual, her strikes resonate so loudly, so clearly, that you can hear it despite being stuck in this god forsaken forest.

‘’Raagh…’’

Athena grunt sounds hollow and animalistic, you immediately your battle stance and watch the girl emerge slowly from the underbrush as her body was sent rolling by the sudden explosion, her nose is leaking some blood and there’s a cut on her forehead; it’s highly likely that she just suffered a concussion however, her left eye…

Where there should be white there is naught but black; her golden iris glower unnaturally and, to make matter worse, you hear a sickening slurping crunch as her shoulder literally open to reveal one, big beastly red eye which turn to glare at you with all the glamour of a dead fish.

‘’I won’t…let you…’’

Disgusting squeaky oil fall down from the lizardgirl mouth that look just about to fold over.

The arm grows backward, coming back to its original length as Athena vomit up a disgusting black meaty chunk, the entire flesh pulse like a heart and the girl tremble slightly.

The most cruel and stricken of indecision fills your mind as you watch the fallen form of Athena; for a brief, brief moment you forget the heat of the day and efforts, you forget the obnoxious mask and the disoriented sound of battle as soldiers and agents try their best to reorient themselves after the near hurricane, you only see the small ruby half clutched into the weak scaled hand of the girl who shouldered more than her share of pains and burdens.

As much as it’d help your cause, capturing her is not an option; the reason why you feel the need to keep her close is out of love and worry, this arm of hers obviously started some kind of…degeneration and it affected her greatly during the battle, you can’t help but have the distinctive feeling that she held back.

The current state of the battlefield is extremely chaotic, Zipangu have the knowledge of being on their home turf, however Hadraniel battle and following collateral cause a serious shift in the forest, the area of the signal may very well have been lost to the church force you could only rely on hearsay and short term memory to get close.

A disadvantage not shared by Zipangu.

Allowing Athena to go back home is the greatest mercy you could show her but then what if some of the church forces find their way here…? Luck is an important factor of battle and cannot be denied, will you need to keep the charade and get her back to camp in that case? What about the adventurers, did Leila deal with them?
While you were asking yourself those question, you slowly walked toward the unconscious Athena and put the little ruby back in her pouch, securing the little sack firmly around her waist so she can keep this precious memento: you’ll be sure to collect your payment once everything is done, after all you are definitely getting overpaid!

You move Athena in a hopefully better position, her body hot and heavy in your arms, almost prompting you to lift her right then and there but, your lingering finally cost you all the time you had…
The distinctive sound of movements happen from the north and south of your current position, however the distinctive sound of battle happen directly behind as well as burst of magical energy easily identified as potent spells followed by clash and bangs as several surges happen in quick succession; you immediately spring to action and place Athena near some intact bushes and scoop down, not exactly hidden, but not in plain sight either.

Your hear also pick up something directly to the west, a slow, careful walk betrayed by stepping into a unforeseen branch, but now, all the actors reveal themselves.

To the south a tall, raven haired woman jump right into the middle of your position, exactly where you were previously, her right hand holding an old decrepit wooden shield pulsing full of magic and she immediately scoop down as an icicle fly over her head without even looking back, the spear in her left hand look worn, almost dull, as if she kept using it against rocks. A pair of wings emerge from her hips; magnificently dark and leathery with constant awkward movements, producing a breeze similar to an angel.

No. That is surprisingly not our goal. /tg/ decided to take this seriously and explore the horrors/philosophical implications of the MGE instead of indulging in our collective fetish of Monstergirls and acting like Rance (which is, I admit, what I was expecting).

We/MC is going for the UNDERSTANDING ending with a harem as the secondary objective. That does not involve sex. Well, it does, but that's true of all things in the ultimate end. "Happily Ever After" implies the sexy times, but it isn't explicitly mentioned for good reason. It's just implied quite heavily if you pay attention and have an "adult" mind.
