Predator Quest: Episode 44

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue.

At last, you're back home, safe in one of Clan Cloud-Viper's prominent medical facilities. You lean against the wall, watching the medical staff run several probes over Quick-Shadow's bruised body. You glance at the monitor, and see dozens of bone fractures and splintered ribs, as a reault of weeks of constant beatings. "She hits pretty hard," you remark.

Quick-Shadow grunts, as a probe injects a healing mold into his shoulder. "Could have been worse - could have ended up with Ebon-Claw."

You recall the tortured corpse of Dark-Spike, in Ebon-Claw's lair, and suppress a surge of anger. He turns to Sharp-Strike, sitting to the side. "Sorry about the tournament, kid. Heard you had a good shot at winning too. There's always next time. Who's hosting it again?"

"Clan Sky-Spear," Steel-Arrow recalls.

"Right."

You check your wrist-computer, and notes several summons. Your matriarch would like to discuss with you the next tasks. Your mentor would like to see you regarding military matters in the Cloud Viper orbital defense station. Your mother would like to fill you in on the latset political developments.

Who should you go see first?

A. Go see the Matriarch.
B. Head to the orbital station and see your mentor.
C. Visit your mother.
>>
>>26594103
>C. Visit your mother.
I'd like to know what is happening with clan Night-Prowler. We've shaken the hornets nest. Time to observe.

before we go off on our next adventure, we should spend some time with librarian-tan, hopefully she has had time to study the human 'literature' we brought her from the shit we captured

>>C. Visit your mother.

You excuse yourself and wish Quick-Shadow a quick recovery, and make your way to your mother's office. You notice two large and expensive disruptor towers flanking her sides.

She greets you, and glances at the new devices. "Won't be taking any more chances after that incident. If they detect anything malicious being broadcasted or a virus attempting to access external systems, those two things go off and completely block transmissions going in and out of this office. Anyway, it's good to see you."

She summons a holo-screen and shows you a long list of communique and headlines between various political parties. "I still don't know what you did exactly, but you've managed to put clan Night-Shadow in headlines on even Yautja prime."

Do you:

A. Ask her about what will happen next to clan Night-Prowler.
B. Ask her who will take leadership of the Night-Prowler clan.
C. Ask her if the conspirators have been indicted and arrested.
D. Ask her what happened locally since you've been away.

C/D: ask about arrests and if any weird goings on have been noted on our side. no reason the Night Prowlers may not be infiltrating other places...
>>
>>26594553
Fair enough. I'm guessing it'll be something along the lines of "Blah blah war, blah blah they're dishonored, blah blah we've got plans in place to deal with them."
>>
>>26594435
>>C.

You ask her if the conspirators have been indicted and arrested.

"Thanks to the evidence you recovered, the Empress declared the ring leaders to be enemies of the empire. Death-Gifter and his ilk are still holed up in the city, refusing to surrender. More likely, he's either trying to engineer an escape or attempting to find some leverage that will allow him to negotiate."

"Do you think that'll work?"

She scoffs. "Not likely. This entire conspiracy is already starting to become a major thorn in the Empress's side, and her agents are probably watching Death-Gifter's every move. Eventually, she'll run out of patience and put a fusion torpedo through the palace."

She clicks in amusement. "Shame about the palace though."

You

A. Ask her about what will happen next to clan Night-Prowler.
B. Ask her who will take leadership of the Night-Prowler clan.

I just think it's important. If Death-Giver is free then he might try to take revenge.

>C. Ask her what happened locally since you've been away.

Your mother leans forward, and brings up a second holo-screen. "...which leads me to the chief reason of why I summoned you."

She brings up a star map of a remote region a few hundred lightyears from Yautja Tertia. She highlights a planet.

"There's been an attack. One of our hunting parties was wiped out. They had a ship - a well armed one - that was destroyed. There's sufficient evidence to believe the perpetrator were several human vessels, judging by the resulting debris."

You grunt. "Impossible. Our ships, even smaller ones, should be able to take on human warships. Even if they're outgunned, they should still be able to escape."

"Your mentor has an interesting theory. He claims the human ships cloaked, and the hunting party thought they met Yautja vessels with their IFF disabled, and did not realize the true intentions until too late." She waits, looking to you for a reaction.

You say:

A. "Unlikely. The humans are decades away from such capability."
B. "Interesting theory. Would make sense, given the recent sharing of technology."

>>
>>26594830
We've only just uncovered the conspiracy, and it's not just clan Night-Prowler that was in on it.

The motivations of the conspirators were interesting. Supposedly by arming Weyland and having them attack us they would galvanize the Yautja and stop the stagnations of our culture... or something.

OP knows more.
>>
>>26594906
If that was their intent, I find that a bit respectable. Though they did it without honor, it's an interesting reasoning. Just trying to give their proud race one greater challenge to overcome.

B.

"Interesting theory. Would make sense, given the recent sharing of technology," you tell her.

She taps her desk thoughtfully. "Well, whatever the case, it's far beyond my expertise. There seems be a good deal of skepticism among others as well, but so far, no one else has come up with a more resonable theory. There were no witnesses, and we weren't able to salvage much from the wreckage. It seems the humans have been hauling pieces of it away for weeks before we send an investigation team. Regardless, you should have a discussion with Jackal about this."

"Anything else?"

"Ah, yes. The Archive is on lockdown. The Archivist found something extremely interesting from whatever souvenir you brought back last time. I don't know the details. She only told the Matriarch, who promptly evicted all non-researchers from the facility and closed it to the public. If you want to know what happened, you'll have to ask the Matriarch. Maybe she'll tell you."

A. Ask her about what will happen next to clan Night-Prowler.

You bid your mother farewell and quickly make your way to the palace. Her aide notices your arrival and quickly shows you in.

The Matriarch looks up from her holo-screen and greets you. She bids you to take a seat.

"Good to see you Three-Claw. The data your team has managed to extract from the Night-Prowlers was invaluable, and I don't imagine it was an easy task. But time is pressing and events are unfolding at a rapid rate, and I'm afraid your servics are required once more."

She clicks thoughtfully. "I've petitioned to allow you a good week to rest and recover, but unfortunately, I was overridden by a higher power. As of now, you no longer need to report to me, as the data you've recovered is conclusive proof that this extends far beyond clan Cloud-Viper."

She leans back, looks to the side, and says, "You've been... requisitioned by a higher power."

A male warrior enters the office. You recognize him. It's Flame-Mantle, the agent of the Empress who took Night-Star into custody.

"Greetings, Three-Claw. Good to see you again." He approaches you and shows you a token depicting the Empress's sigil. "Your Matriarch has kindly allowed me to requisition your services, but please don't think of this as compulsory. It's a choice, not a conscription. How would you like to work for the Empress?"

You respond:

A. "Yes, it would be an honor."
B. "I am flattered, but I would prefer to serve my clan directly."
C. "What exactly does this service entail?"

"The mandate to serve the Empire's interests beyond clan interests. Now, you'll still be of clan Cloud-Viper, that won't change, but your loyalties will be tied directly to the Empress and the Empire. You'll be tasked with missions to the benefit of our people as a whole, with a mandate that supercedes any and all specific clan customs and politics. You'll also be given the authorization and freedom to carry out your mission with the highest efficiency."

"And my relations to my clan?"

"Same. Your clan may still sponsor you with equipment, support, and aid, as long as they're in line with the greater good of the empire."

You look to your Matriarch, who says, "We will."

"And my team?"

"Still your team. Now, what will it be?"

You answer:

A. "Yes, it would be an honor."

A.

"Yes, it would be an honor," you tell him.

"Good." he hands you the sigil. "As your first task, to demonstrate the power and responsibility you now wield, and as a test to see if you have the mettle to do what's needed, you are going to decide Death-Gifter's fate."

He taps his wrist computer and projects a holo-screen in front of you. "Kraken-Slayer, do you hear me?"

A voice is projected from the screen. "Kraken-Slayer here. We hear you."

Flame-Mantle turns to you. "You are now speaking to my warship, in low orbit above the Night-Prowler city. The current ruling council has been declared to be traitors, and we're putting the former Matriarch back in power. Death-Gifter and his accomplices have been delivered an ultimated - surrender or be destroyed. He has chosen to hole up in the central palace in response. One of his accomplices, and part of the ruling council, Dark-Shroud, has already surrendered, along with the vast majority of the city guards. Since it was your work which has brought this about, it's only fitting that you make the move to end it. How should we end this?"

You think about it carefully, and answer:

A. "Bomb the palace to dust. A show of power is needed here to discourage further acts of treason."
B. "Sending a crack raiding team. Take him alive, and put him to trial. Expose him as the traitor he is."
C. "Lay siege to his palace, and starve him out. Let the people see how pathetic he is."
D. "Attempt to open negotiations with him. Strike a compromise - a peaceful transition is better in the long run."
E. "I don't think I'm qualified to make such an important decision."
>>
>>26595660
>A. "Yes, it would be an honor."

Putting him on trial would give him a voice, something we cannot afford to let happen. It'd sow dissent.

Destroy him. Show the other clans what happens to traitors.

We shouldn't let him speak before we can take him down a notch or two to discredit him and his cause, so not B, it is too clean and simple.
We shouldn't just silence him either.

"Sending a crack raiding team. Take him alive, find out what he knows, and put him to trial. Expose him as the traitor he is," you tell him.

Flame-Mantle clicks thoughtfully. He turns to the holo-screen. "Kraken-Slayer, did you get that?"

"Yes sir. Order received. Raiding team reports they're ready to go. Launching assault pods now."

Flame-Mantle turns to you. "Good. Very decisive. That's what it means to be an agent of the Empress - to use great power decisively and accurately."

He pauses, and grows a somber. "We will lose a few good warriors in this raid. The palace is well defended, and Night-Prowler's paranoia means our team will face a variety of traps and tricks. But we will accomplish our goal in the end. Death-Gifter is cog in a vast conspiracy machine. He is an important cog, just as Night-Star was, but nonetheless just a cog. We need to find the rest, and take them out. But that will take time."

He waves his hand. "But do not concern yourself with that. There are agents working to root them out who are far more experienced than you such missions. I need you for something else."

He presses a few keys on his wrist computer, and the holo-screen changes. Two worlds appear. You recognize one as Fey'lenn. The other is Earth, human's home world.

He turns to you.

"What do you think about war with the humans?"

You say:

A. "We should avoid war. It's a drain on our resources and will change our way of life."
B. "If it is inevitable, then we should strike fast, and crush them quickly."
C. "War would play right into the conspirators hands. We should strive to avoid it."
D. "I would be lying if I said I don't agree in part with the conspirator's line of thinking. You've seen what threats the humans can become."
>>
>>26595911
C
>>
>>26595911
>C. "War would play right into the conspirators hands. We should strive to avoid it."
This, but I'm also partially inclined to D. Even though that's a risky thing to say.

Still, humans are interesting, and have proven honorable warriors in the past. We can't condemn the race because they're growing stronger. If they are to face us one day on equal grounds, it would be a welcome challenge, and a worthy hunt.
>>
>>26595911
>C.
War with humanity as a whole will force the entire races to embrace W-Y as their potential savior, worsening the problem.
>>
>>26595959
Right. War against Weyland is one thing, but the entire human race? Foolish.
>>
>>26595911
C and A, war is disastrous, and would pave the way for coup d'etat. The empress presumably holds our loyalty, and above all else, we are a fanatic to our system. Also, war with the humans gives them all a chance at winning. Fuck that

"War would play right into the conspirators hands. We should strive to avoid it," you tell him.

"Good. Then we are in agreement." He points to the holo-screen.

"I won't bore you with the politics, or ramble about things you already know. I will get straight to the point. While our agents work on neutralizing the conspiracy within the empire, we will also need to excise a simialr cancer from the humans. Weyland-Yutani - they have our technology. We are going to take it back."

He turns to the Matriarch. "Your elder, Jackal-of-Carrion, is absolutely correct. The humans have built several prototype cloaking devices, from plans and technology which Night-Star and his ilk provided to them. Fortunately for us, Weyland-Yutani's obsession with secrecy means this technology is kept securely in two centralized locations." He points to Fey'lenn. "As you know, they are researching our technology on various underground facilities on Fey'lenn." He points to Earth. "A copy of the originals, the ones we smuggled to them, are kept securely and secretly in their headquarters on Earth."

He turns to you.

"Two choices. Two objectives. Go to Earth, infiltrate Weyland-Yutani's headquarters, and cleanse all traces of our technology, or lead an assault team and cleanse Fey'lenn of humans. Which mission would you like to take?"

It is a large city, and one of their central hubs, but it is not a major political center. Weyland-Yutani owns this city, and from what we hear of our human sources, they practically run it. Look for the largest and most prominent building. That is where they are headquartered. Infiltrate, seek, and destroy all evidence of our tech," he tells you.

You carefully review the map, and ask:

A. "How will I make planetfall? Earth's orbit is bound to be filled with sensors that can pick up even our stealthed ships."

"I will be grossly outnumbered. Do we have any resources we can count on locally?"

Flame-Mantle thinks for a moment. "Unfortunately, we can't afford to send too large a force, for obvious reasons, and we don't have any trusted humans on the ground. However, I'm told you may have dealt with a few human contacts. If you believe they could contribute to this mission, and I'm sure they would be eager to, seeing as how we're dealing with a mutual enemy."

He takes a deep breath. "It won't be easy, I know. If you get into a firefight, it won't be easy to extract you. But on the other hand, you're not a stranger to such conditions."

You acknowledge, and mentally prepare yourself.

I'll try to stick to a schedule of 3-4 sessions per week from now on.

There is a god and he is kind.

Thanks alot.

This session was an fairly interesting read.
I'd breed the humans and use them for experiments, but it seems the predator world is sort of a Roman family/clan world.

fun as always, heres hoping we can bring our librarian-tan some 'research' material from earth, I wonder if Dubai has a red light district

It's a tribal society based around honor and the glory of the hunt.

They're not really technophiles like humans are.

You should read one of the more action-packed ones. We're just getting ready for the next mission.

the planet we are on is the main Cloud-Viper planet, but also shares a large amount of its land with territories and cities owned/run by other clans, there most likely are such clans that would use the oomans for experimentation, each clan specializes in something.

heres hoping we one day get to see Yautja Prime
>>
I still want to talk to Jackal before we leave.
>>
>>26597375
we should at least drop in and say "Yo dude, I iz agent of da Empz now, so you can train those noobs by yourself"
>>
I don't think we should take Sharp-Strike on this mssion. It's incredibly important and he is less experienced than even us. It's also dangerous. He's just a kid. If Quick-Shadow is up for it, I say we take him. If not, Steel-Arrow or Ashen-Blade seem to be acceptable.

Of course, we could always go alone.

>Of course, we could always go alone.

other Yautja have tried and failed in that pursuit

I'm still wondering who hired the assassin.
