You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

The Battle of White Tree has ended, and your forces have been victorious. Miraculously, the Blessed, White Tree's child soldiers, have been spared. Hopefully, with their front secured, they can return to a normal life.

Sadly, that was paid for in the blood of many many people, both from the UFK's Mixed Units, the White Tree Regulars, and the handful of orcs that arrived to do battle with their ancient rivals once more.

Sadly, despite the sounds of celebration and partying within White Tree, there is no rest for a Paladin. You've got an ettin idol to inspect, regroup with Jesse-May, and finally...attempt to breach the Citadel Dome.
>>
Heck yes time for todays quest. It'll be some time before anyone else shows, but I am excited.

Also, I sort of wonder how well our friends fared in the battle. I bet there's a few soldiers who had some strange experiences with silkworms now, for example. We had an unpleasant time when we first did that.
>>
>ettin idol to "inspect"
Maybe we should wait until the magic junk is scrubbed off

or not.

Can we ship that thing to Stonehall?
>>
>>26607318
I believe we're going to be shipping it or one like it back to stone hall. Unless we find out that the heart of the citadel is ALSO the perfect sunning rock once we detatch it form its sinister... I'm gonna say umbilical. It's probably hanging from a sinister dangle. That is my bet.

Well, I guess we can't put it off any longer.
>>
>>26607372
Yep....

Also we do need to talk to Lea bout them dragon urges
>>
>>26607372
I'm just... trying not to think about it. I mean we still have like, another three or four days, maybe a week on those mind control potions. Easily long enough to ignore the problem for a while.

And we should totally inspect that idol at some point for entirely legitimate not sleeping-on-it based reasons. Though I'm equally desirous to see how the new robin did.
>>
>>26607387
And I personally would have the crew tested for their own psychological shit with Bliss.

The gang needs to have a major pow-wow on what kind of shit the Citadel might throw at us. We already got hit with it before and it'll be stronger this time.

Honestly there's so much unknown about the inside of the citadel that I'm more leaning towards gas masks and chemical mind protectors rather than working through our issues so citadel can't get at us.

Go full hazmat, we're venturing into the unknown.
>>
>>26607477
Yeah, but what happens if the mind protection doesn't work?
Because I'm all for the mind protection, I'd just like to know what everybody's flavor of mind rape is going to be so they have a chance to will their way out of it. Ours is certainly Tricia.

Agreed. We need to go to her and do some serious repentance.
>>
>>26607215
Mage and Kincaid come up to your new camp. They look unhappy.

"Okay, bad news." Mage says. "The idol isn't the billitite bullet that we needed to deal with the ettin. Kingfisher isn't stupid, unlike the Dramatae."

"Who?" Kincaid asks.

"Long story." Mage says. "Basically, they aren't connected to each other, and the spell isn't a simple mind control, but a long, slow, mild indoctrination process. Not something we can just fix in a day."

"So, we did this for nothing?" Tricia asks.

"I wouldn't say that." Kincaid says. "From the smoke and sounds of fighting within the Empire's camp, it sounds like the elves did well. Plus the ettin army's scattered and lost a large number of their forces." He shrugs. "We just can wave our hands and make everything better."

Also, the traitor. Was he a lone wolf or working with the Phoenix?

That is a thing. We should ask about Stafford. Also about how Beacon burning stuff is new.

We would also get free rocks out of this deal.

>>
>>26608123
While discussing it, mention "Beacon never burned anyone before, even people who might have deserved it -- cough, [that military woman whose name escapes me, the one who was working for "First Stone Hall" and slept with teenagers], cough -- and I'd like to figure out why Stafford, whose crime boiled down to being a pompous jerk, so far as I can tell, got his arm scorched."
>>
>>26608286
Stafford did also commit treason
>>
>>26608286
I believe her name was sally, but let's skip the cough part because A. I am not sure it was sally and B. let's try not to badmouth the dead.

The rest, though, I'm 100% for mentioning at some point. While kinkaid and mage are here.
>>
>>26608314
Okay, so he was a pompous, treacherous jerk. Still nothing like Peace, or that First Stone Hall woman, or Adahn, or the Doctor. (Adahn might be a bit of a special case as he was largely manipulated by others, but then again, everyone's at least partly a product of their environment.)
>>
"Oh well, hopefully our other bullet was more magical. Do we have control over the phoenix rear camps? Or was it just the planned raids?"

"Depends on the front." Kincaid says. "We're got them on the run, but they've dug in at the Citadel Wastes nearest to the Dome."

"I suppose the best thing would to be confiscating as many idols as we can whenever we make a push, then. Hopefully the process will fall apart after a few months without reinforcement. Maybe break whatever magic is on the ones we capture, just to make sure it doesn't leak, or whatever magic does."

"Well," Mage says. "There's a little thing we might be able to do. Kincaid was against it though."

"The ettin have had their minds screwed with enough." He says. "No more."

Mage rolls his eyes. "This would be FIXING the damage."

"No, it's like that plan that you told me the Fey Court did. It's one things for elves to do something like that. However, this plan is all on us, and I say it's just replacing one leash for another."

Mage groans. "I want to alter the indoctrination spell in the rock. The ettin will arrive to collect the second heads of the dead. We've already harvested the ones we could and have stacked them up for them to take. As per the agreement. I say we leave the stone with the heads, and I alter the spell so that it replaces the current indoctrination message with a newer one. One that has them break free of the Empire and live as they see fit."

"And that's the problem, who are you to say how the ettin should live?"

"Well, what's the alternative then?" Mage says.
>>
What if it just said to stop worshiping any idols?
>>
>>26608687
And maybe throw in some paranoia about mind altering magic?
>>
"What if it just said to stop worshiping any idols?" You say.

"They'd still be predisposed to serve the Empire." Mage says. "And the UFK is now and forever against slavery...right?" He looks at Lea and Tricia.

They nod.

"Right!" He says. "So, we have to undo the damage."

"Not by causing more!" Kincaid says. "If we can drive off the Empire, the ettin tribes will be free of their influence and the indoctrination will wear off over time."

"Oh, and all we have to do is hope that the Empire doesn't swoop back in and take them back under their wing in the meantime?" Mage says.

"No, because WE will be there to protect them." Kincaid says.

"The whole damn time?"

"YES. That's what a Paladin DOES." Kincaid says.
>>
>>26608628
"Seems simple enough to me. The ettins don't seem to need these rocks like the slaves apparently needed their book- I didn't see any who had their brains mushed from the removal of the idol. We can simply keep stockpiling the idols, until we have all the magical ones the empire distributed. It would take much longer, and wouldn't be the decisive blow we're used to dealing, but it might give them something of a semblance of freedom.
That's the alternative that comes off the top of the head, you're free to give me reasons why it won't work now."
>>
Rolled 4

>>26608628
I'm with Kincaid. Our job is to take leashes off, not put them on.

>>
>>26608751
>>26608740
damn, I'm late. Okay, moving on. My vote's with Kinkaid on this one, so I will talk to that effect.
"Mage, I know we're used to striking large blows in problems like these, but there's an alternative here that apparently requires no magical mind manipulation and doesn't have a chance of melting brains. It took the empire years to set up this invasion, once we drive them off, we will have quite some time for the ettins to be in peace away from the phoenix. I hope."
>>
>>26608740
Difficult. We might want to table that for later as a long term plan.

For now, getting the ettin to stop fighting us is fine.
>>
"Gotta side with Kincaid here, We can't just put even more magic into their poor heads, if anything we should help them to be able to resist any future enthrallment." You say.

"Can you do that?" Tricia asks.

"Input a anti-magic enhancement into a race that hates us and wants to kill us?" Mage says. "Yeah, that's a great plan."

"Mage..." Lea warns.

He sighs and throws up his hands. "I'll see what I can do." He walks off.

Kincaid nods at you. "It's hard, but we have to remember that these mean something." He touches his mantle. "Even if they're red."

Hey, I just realized something: Remember whatshername, the last Three-Eye? We could chat her up about genetics and fleshsculpting. I mean, sure, she vehemently hates us to the point that we are her sole reason for living, but she could potentially un-sterilize Tricia.

Also she could fix that whole "Human Genetics violently overwrite everyone else' DNA" thing. To top it off, she has her basic genetic profile to work with, so couldn't she easily resurrect her entire species given enough volunteers? I'm sure we could find SOME. She could even take on some students, like Mage, who I am surprised has not accidentally seduced her yet.
>>
>>26608841

>>26609968
We don't know her name, call her Nakai. Also she was a student, so we'd have to do some significant archeology and research to even be able to work on what she has.
>>

I still take a kind of dim view on the "humanization" thing. It sounds like the kind of lie a God would feed the Crafters to justify their developing sense of racial superiority. And we KNOW they had a God manipulating them.

"Speaking of, do you know much about the Ettins? What's the deal with that second head, anyway? And the blueness? I've been dying to ask."

"It's actually not really a 'head' in the fact that it has senses." Kincaid says. "It's like...a rooster's crest or waddle. Some people think it's similar to a camel's hump. I personally think it's what lets such a big being to move with such 'grace.' We do know for certain that the males groom the second head extensively to impress females. The world will never stop being weird."

"Huh, that's the truth. Being a fur trader would have been a lot easier, though, right Tricia?"

"Knowing you, we'd probably still be blowing up mountains." Tricia says.

"Kincaid?" You ask. "Do you know anything about my weapon?"

"You wield the Beacon, right?" Kincaid looks at it. "Last time I saw this, it was your father's blade, and before that, a bow."

"Right, well...that was the first time I ever saw it burn someone." You say. "I've blasted worse sinners with that beam, and nothing like that's happened before."

Kincaid shrugs. "Beacon is a fickle artifact, and has more than a few stories attached to it." He strokes his chin. "Maybe it saw Stafford as betraying His Light and committing grand heresy."

"We've fought others who've turned their back on His Light." Lea says.

"While they still claimed to serve it?"

"Yeah, Allbread...wait...no...she had donned a Dramatae mask." Tricia says. "Huh. You think that's it?"

Kincaid shrugs. "That, or all the fighting and magic, caused the raw magic discharge that Beacon gives off to be more powerful. That's a worldly explanation at least."

"Anyway, I have to talk with Avery about arranging the funeral pyres, and finishing the wall repairs. Anything else?"

"What are you looking for?" Peri asks.

"Soma." You say. "I want Kincaid to see it."

Everyone looks...nothing. That fucking sword is nowhere to be found in Wagon, or in your tents, or packs, or anywhere!

"Is it too much to hope that it decided to just leave?" Mari asks.

"Sorry," Kincaid says. "What's going on?"

"We have a cursed sword that we think might have the soul of one of our greatest enemies inside it. It's been following us around, despite our best efforts, and now, we can't seem to find it." Lea says.

"Ah," He nods. "I had that problem with a pair of shoes once...minus the soul thing. Though I was pretty certain that they were sentient and evil."

"So what did you do with them?" Tricia asks.

"Fed them to a basalisk." Kincaid says. "You tried tossing it in a smelter?"

"Yes." Peri says.

"Okay, well then I advise to take a cloth soak it in a mixture of mistletoe oil and blood. That'll rust it up at least." Kincaid says.

"Alright," Peri says. "Just hope they don't want something else in return, or hear about the Empire's world domination plan or ritual and think that it's a good idea, but wrongly managed."

"Maxine would go for that." Mage says.

"You never know." Lea says. "Put that kind of prize before the most virtuous being, and even they would wonder. It's the nature of being alive. A voice in the back of the skull going 'Want want want' all the time." She shrugs as you all set off for the elves' nearest camp. "Maxine's aware of us and consequence though, but you have to be careful, none the less."

And how many impressionable people do you think there are now, that Citadel is dying and most of the gods are dead? Who are just waiting for some huge, nigh omnipotent being to swoop in and take control of the situation? There are still TONS of refugees about. Old One could become a powerbloc by himself overnight.

Polite sage for being off topic.

I don't really read too many quests on /tg/, but I have noticed that there are several unusually long-running quests around, and this is one of them. Consequently I'd like to interrupt to ask a question. Have you considered how (and/or when) you're going to make an ending for your quest?

Even the best quests grow old eventually, and the longer it goes, the more likely that the story will lose its old charm and grow into a hollow shell of its former self. While such an action may seem repulsive to you, you have to let the quest end eventually whether you want to or not. Like any story, a quest is not meant to go on indefinitely.

I mean no offense to you or your readers- I am merely curious as to how you will resolve this and intend to ask other influential QMs on /tg/ this same question.

>>
>>26612861
He isn't obliged to answer, and you've no pressing need to continue asking.

If you don't like the threads, ignore them. It literally costs you nothing.
>>
>>26612902
This.
And that'll take a full invasion, which will probably happen after we get things stabilized after Citadel..

This isn't an infinite quest and it never really would be. It's not that long either.
>>
>>26612881
Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of the people who rails against the existence of quests on /tg/, and I have no grudge against this quest in particular. I just felt compelled to bring this to his attention, that is all; there is no need to be alarmed over it.

>>26612911
Duly noted. I would prefer not to e-mail him for personal reasons, but I will remain here in case he comes back in hopes of getting an answer.
>>
>>26612996
Why? This quest started in March. There are quests which have been running for two years or more.
You reek of new. This quest is over when Echo decides it is over. Your thoughts on the matter are irrelevant and unwelcomed.
>>
>>26612957
theres also that other place and whatever land spirits they have
>>
>>26613030

"HAHAHAHA! Looks like the Phoenix can't judge a book by its cover." You say.

"This wasn't our only copy, right? That was important. Otherwise, good work. Have we noticed any changes in the hopefully ex-slaves?"

"Ssen," Tricia says. "We've got copies of Ryan's Manifesto back in the Lighthouse. We had Barney make copies. It was when you and Lea went down to Coral Gate to plant the rose bush."

"The Slaves are confused and in a haze, but from sounds of fighting makes me think that we live in revolutionary days."

"And you're sure this is what the Phoenix Army is saying?" Jesse-May is saying as she approaches. She's holding the Whisper flute, so she must be talking to someone. "Alright. Of course I don't believe it. Yes...yes, she's here."

"Talking to Maxine." She says to you.

"Yes...oh...right. That message from Stone Hall, umm...do I have to give it third hand? Oh wait...right right." She sighs. "Okay. I'll set it up. Good luck with home."

Jesse-May looks at you. "Her Majesty has returned home so that she can restore order and control to First Wood and her people." She sighs. "Okay, we've got good news, great news, regular news, bad news, and sad news."

"Huh?" Tricia asks.

As I said, I do not read many quests on /tg/, but the fact that this was 87 threads in made me curious. Is simple curiosity not a compelling reason? I had no intention of trolling anybody over this, and I phrased my question in the least threatening way I could think of.

There is no need to be so excessively defensive- if he finds my line of inquiry threatening, I will withdraw it, but you do not speak for him.
>>
>>26613166
It was the only one that I really cared about...
>>
>>26613176
"Good news is that it looks like we'll have this thing all tied up in the month. Probably longer for Purple Sands, now I don't think our little reprograming of the slaves is going to stick or be very widespread, but we've got them on the run.

"The great news is that we don't have to worry about Heron or Kingfisher. Apparently, the leader of the Heron family has disappeared, and Kingfisher, in his shame and disgrace, has committed suicide, and his disciples have vanished into the night, scattered and alone."

"No way." Peri says.

"Which is the regular news. I don't believe it for an instant. But it's great news as it means that Kingfisher's given up on the war.

"The Bad News is that there's been a disturbance reported by my scouts at the Citadel Dome. They just saw a big burst of blue-white light for an instant. Then nothing."

The Dawnchasers all look at each other. That's not good.

"Had a feeling that you might know what that meant." Jesse-May says. She nods. "Alright. Well, do you have a plan or something? We can get a plan together on how to get you into the Dome. I'm thinking that if we use the orcs and the White Tree cannons on the southern most point of the dome, we can draw them away from the northern area. Then it's just a simple matter of you heading north along the dome until you get to a point where there' s light to no guard and get inside...you do have a way to get inside, right?"

>>
>>26613150
And now we have to free Comedy and Tragedy from imprisonment, and we'll probably have go back to re-beat Peace. We beat Cold Man's avatar and broke his hold on the north, and Citadel basically curled up on itself, but they're not out of play at all. The Phoenix empire is still an enemy to be reckoned with, can convert souls, and Kingfisher is still running around free.

So basically, the biggest "gains" we've made are in gaining more enemies.

"I don't know if it'll be permanent, but it'll get us in." Mage says.

"WHAT?" The other girls all ask.

"You never asked! Plus that thing is gigantic!" He says.

"So your plan was to get us TRAPPED in there?" Mari asks.

"...maybe?" Mage says.

"Why would he give up the war? I thought he wanted the south, or something like that. After war peace talks is the perfect time to establish some kind of new state." You say.

"Maybe it has to do with the leader of the Heron family being gone. They were the ones who were after that mass mind-control thing."

"Soul shaping."

"It comes to the same thing, Mage." Tricia says. "And we are NOT done about that 'not permanent' thing."

"I thought we would make our OWN exit, like we always do." Mage says. "That...or we could carefully split the stone in two, little riskier, but we'd have an out."

"I DON'T want to do all of this and end up as the sacrifice of a Lightbringer story!" Mari says. "I have a body waiting for me to do horrible things to it, with Peri's help and I plan to be there to use it."

"Okay, so I need you and your horse to be up here at this point." Jesse-May says. "Then it's a matter of you guys moving up and in when the fighting starts."

"Will you need help with that?" Tricia asks.

"Nah, just some Raptors. We've got White Tree's souped up cannons and the spell-shooters." She says. "It's just a grind, since they're dug in well. Which is good for you, since we can drag out this fighting for a long time. So, sounds good?"

You have a sinking feeling in the back of your stomach as you ask this. "What's the sad news?"

She pauses and closes her eyes. "Damn..." She sighs. "We...we got a message from Stone Hall. Ssen...that old Naga." She takes a deep breath. "Naga and Lamia hearts keep in fine condition as long as they don't have children.

"It's not the same for your minds."

"What's happened?" You ask.

She sighs. "She's having difficulty remembering that the next day happened." Jesse-May sighs. "Tara and Isen say that she's always surprised to find that you're not there. She thinks that it's supposedly a month ago. She remembers everyone from before...and she compensates for the time lost when she's informed, but yeah." Jesse-May nods. "Some people from Cups have looked at her...they think that this might get worse. Not quickly, of course, but well...I guess a brain can only handle so much time."

Don't accept that this is a legitimate concern. Denial, and mountains of it. Accepting this would mean accepting that it could actually happen to Ssen as well.

On the fifth strike the cracks seal with black ice, but the damage has been done. Soma's no good regularly as a blade. You hand it to Mari who has the rust oil mixture ready on a cloth and she wraps up the damn sword in it.

"Alright." You say. You nod at Jesse-May. "I just need to know. I need to talk to the girls and...and..."

Jesse-May nods. "I'll get right on it." She takes out her whisper flute and starts to play on it.

Lea puts a hand on your shoulder. She doesn't say anything.

>>26614416

Is this the hard part? Waiting as the centuries pass, watching over the land, knowing that one day I'll lose my mind?
>>
I remember reading/watching somewhere that it may be that the brain can only store so much information/memories, and that it could eventually become an issue for human beings who live far beyond the normal 60-100ish years that is the norm. Of course, it isn't clear if the brain would just erase old memories to make room for new ones, or if it would have trouble learning new things due to having a profound lack of folding real estate on the brain.

If we'd have rescued a master Crafter from our trip in the north, that would've been a very convenient answer to this problem. But there could be an answer in combining flesshaping with the knowledge that the Crafter we rescued knows, assuming that she specialized in the right fields before starting her "internship".

Tricia and Mage share a glance with each other for a moment and then not-look at you.

"Ssen, honey..." Tricia says. "Granny's....Granny's had a few moments where she's forgotten things."

"We thought, you know...she's lived for so long, but..." Mage shrugs. "When she comes up to the surface, she keeps going to this one place, and looks confused. You were busy that day, so we asked her. Apparently there was a date seller at that place, before the ghouls attacked, and they'd sell to the lizardmen, and they'd bring her dates...basically she'd always go to that place to see if it was still standing."

"She does that every time she comes up out of the sewers." Tricia says. "But...but you're right! It could be poison, or Kingfisher, or something like that."

Me? No. I'll see it coming and be ready. It's Granny and the girls, they never deserved this. And Soma, with Peace and the Dark Man, was fucking crowing and gloating about it.

I don't feel cheated. They were cheated. Granny finally gets children, and they get a family, and then this happens.

I think I know why the battle was...fun...in a sick kind of way. It was easy. There were all those kids behind me, and the enemy attacking them in front of me. No doubt, no questioning. But I can't just solve this with a sword, can I?

Light above, it was like having a real family. I had nieces, and Granny. I've never even seen any others like... well, like ME. Gods, I feel like Father is dying all over again and I can't be there!

Really, I think we need to ask a question. Lea keeps checking to make sure the dragonbrain isn't doing the talking, and we just found out that Mage and Tricia kept their knowledge/suspicion that Granny is having severe memory issues from us. Are they doing it because they care about us, or because they're afraid of us? Because they don't trust us?

We keep telling them it's bad to keep shit like that locked in, and I know they probably just want to have our backs, but honestly this is a little much for one lamia to handle all at once.

And going into Citadel, it would be nice to have a reaffirming, positive "we've got your back" moment.
>>
>>26615128
I don't think they put two and two together. It's not like Alzheimer's is a recognized disease in this world.
And the only one who is aware of our dragonbrain is us.
>>
so, what are we going to tell the little ones?

We can't even promise we're coming home with certainty.
>>
>>26615147
They saw her looking for the same shop over and over again despite her having found out on previous days that it wasn't there anymore, and everyone knows about dragonbrain. We even referred to it as such earlier this thread and everyone knew what it was.
>>
>>26615147
Lea is pretty much aware of it, as is Old One, and Ted.

They can actually see that gathering people to be our friends is our way of building a hoard.
>>
>>26615185
We tell them the truth. That their Granny still loves them, but is having trouble remembering recent things, so she's going to need their help, their understanding, and their love from now on. And that their Aunt loves them too and wants more than anything to be there with them, but needs to be somewhere else right now. Because a lot of people will suffer if she isn't there for them.
>>
>>26615185
We're going to tell them that Granny is getting old and they'll have to help her take care of things.
It's just what you'd tell any child in these circumstances.

Naw, Citadel is a giant stone dome an order of miles across. The kind of explosive it'd take to completely destroy that would probably crack the planet open.
>>
"If half will work, I guess." You say.

"Okay." Mage nods.

Tricia runs up to hug you then, and you wrap her back and hold tight.

"I'll never leave. Even when my body goes and I'm just a swarm, and even after I fall apart and can't...stay me...I'll never leave. You won't know it's me, and I won't know it's you but...but..." She wipes her eyes. "Ugh, that's sappy garbage." She wipes her eyes. "I didn't...I didn't think that she was...I'm so so sorry!"

"Sssh." You say.

You two hold it there for a moment.

Tricia sighs and taps you on the shoulder.

You uncoil and see that Jesse-May is there with the whisper flute. The others have gone to pack up the acmp and get Lightmare hitched up to Wagon and ready for tomorrow's raid on the dome.

Tricia pats you on the shoulder and goes to join them.

You take the flute from Jesse-May.

"Keep it." She says. "You may be able to contact us outside of Citadel with it."

You put the flute to your lips and...

"Hello Little Snake." Scheherazade's voice says. "So...it seems that we do have clocks after all." She sighs. "It's alright, little one. I've been told, and I've left notes for myself. Plus now that I, and Cups, know that there's something wrong." She sighs again. "I'm sorry, little one."

We still have a bunch of ages to go though, which is more than enough.

"Yeah." She says.

"We'll need to explain this to the children somehow." You say.

"I already did." She says. "They know that Granny is old, and her mind is old, and she'll need their help." She says.

"So, they're helping you?" You say. "I'm sure they're taking it harder than anyone."

"Ssai doesn't quite understand, she thinks it's a game." She says. "Ssah...their mother must have been very very old when she gave birth to them. She understands...I think that's why Ssai is okay. They've seen it before. Did, did you ever see the girl's mother?"

You don't think you did. A grey haired, pretty looking corpse, flits through your mind as it is sent to the water.

"No, she was dead when we found her."

"Ah, well...maybe she did it right. Live long enough until it gets too bad, then have children and then that's that." Granny says. "Don't worry. I have years and years left before I get that far gone. Lamia never forget their own. It's beyond memory, smell, feel, texture...well...you know how it is when you play with the girls." She says. "I'm going off on a tangent. Apologies."

"Annoying pests." She chuckles.

I use a journal to reinforce memory. The important part is to use it as a canvas for your conciousness. You don't try to focus on a single idea; the brain doesn't work like that. You just write what you're thinking,

It's less like writing a book and more like drawing a map. In this case, it'd be a really big map.

And I chucked the pit at the Fool's head." She laughs. "Maybe I'll pick up some horrible habits as well."

"Maybe write a book?"

"Hmm...that'll be tricky...and a good deal of it would be 'she sat her fat scaly ass in a sewer for many years.' Which I think is hardly great literature...but that's an idea." She says. "Anyway, don't let me worry you. You focus on proving those asshole wrong."

"Ah, she really knows how to cheer someone some." You say as you wipe your eyes.

You head back to the group. Mage and Mari are off to the side very slowly, and very carefully, splitting the brillitite stone in two. Lea is petting Lightmare and brushing your steed's coat. Tricia comes up to you. She takes your hand and gives it a little squeeze.

"Family okay?" She asks.

You nod. "How are we going to get light for the mirrors if it seals it up again?" You ask.

Tricia raises an eyebrow. "Really? Ssen...we do have something that DOES make some seriously bright, hopefully holy light." She points at Beacon. "Anyway, mirrors are in your pack, we've got enough dry rations to keep us from eating the food inside there for a month. Filled waterskins with cheesecloth filters if we run out of that. And we're ready for tomorrow." She looks at you and smiles.

"Guys!" You say.

Everyone looks up.

"This is...does anyone have anything else they'd like to do before we do this? Or wants to back out?" You say.

There's a pause. You know they're all thinking.

"I saw my sister, after I undid the spell on the stone with Kincaid." Mage says. "She's doing better...still kinda hates me...but she's eating salads. She's safe and healthy and mildly happy...learning to read too. Yeah, I'm good, sis."

"I'm good." "Me too." Peri/Mari say.

Lea chuckles. "You thought one of us would even think about backing out?"

"Only as a desperate wish." Mage says.

"True." Lea says.

Tricia just kisses you on the nose. "Come on serpent, let's break into paradise and destroy it."

"Well, you know I won't be walking out of there." You say.

Tricia's eyebrows not for a moment then her eyes go wide and she swats you on the shoulder, laughing. "No fair, I was unprepared and you come out assaulting me like that!"

There's five full doses of the stuff prepared. You didn't have the bliss mace ready, but Mage knows a few domination spells from studying Empire stuff, and a few other places here and there. You tried your test dose out, using Peri against his spells and strongest magic. She said it tingled and disobeying Mage made her feel like she had a headache but was on multiple pain-killing herbs. But she could defy him. You hope that means it works well enough.

"Wait, your sister couldn't read, Mage? Does that mean you couldn't read when we picked you up? Gosh, I could help you with that if you still needed it." You say.

He shrugs. "I'm a quick learner, plus Ambrose helped. I'm good. Thanks though."

"Well, I'm happy to teach. Tricia knows how much I like to wag my tongue. I've not had any material since the ice puns during our trip to the North. I suppose being so sudden was rather cold of me." You say.

Tricia drops to her knees and waves her hands in surrender. "I give up. I give up!" She says laughing.

That night is a good one. Good stew, pleasant conversation about ideas of the future, possible uses of the Blessed's technology, and bad jokes. Lea plays some music, and after a little light babble, you go to sleep.

The next day you're in Wagon. Lightmare is bridled up and you're in position.

Jesse-May's plan goes off without a hitch. The Empire's very rigid doctrine is great, and very powerful. But so predictable, and with no Kingfisher to throw curveballs, the whole plan goes off without a hitch.

Mage carefully using his staff, pushes the chunk of brillitite right up close to the dome wall. It's now smooth and pure white. So bright it almost hurts to look at it.

"Right." Mage says. "Okay, a regular bullet should do it." He says getting inside wagon and crouching down.

"We're taking Lightmare inside?" Lea asks.

"Citadel's huge remember?" Tricia says. "Well need Lightmare to move from place to place quickly."

"As ready as I'll ever be, let's crack the god-egg wide open!" You say.

"Should we be this close?" You ask.

"Umm...no." Mage says. "But from what I understand, this will either work...or it wont matter to us at all."

Tricia narrows her eyes at him. "Mage, you should just start lying to us."

"Alright, alright. The dome should absorb most of the imp-"

"Enough of this." Mari says and she aims her pistol and fires.

There's a bright flash of light...but no explosion. Instead, you see part of the dome...ripple. Like it was made of water. The white fades and you see...the city itself!

"Go! Go!" Mage shouts.

Lightmare bursts forwards and you charge through. The 'hole' is big enough and you all go through no problem. You don't even feel anything.

"Shit." Mage sayas looking behind him. "Knew that the dome was self-repairing."

You see the ripple effect stop, and the hole behind you slowly fades away. changing from what looks like a white wall with a hole leading to some woods...to what looks like a very tall well made, pleasant looking, city wall. It doesn't even look like it goes up higher than the walls of White Tree.

There's a blue sky, a yellow sun, cheerful breezes and a lovely smell as you look out over a city that's...gorgeous. Honestly, it looks just like you saw it that first time, only now...now it's even prettier, shinier, cleaner, and where there was stone, you see gleaming silver. The air smells sweet, and the sounds of music and laughter fill the air. You know that everything in this city is welcoming, loving, and wants nothing more for you to stay and be happy.

Welcome to Heaven.

You are inside Grand Citadel.

Time to do what we were supposed to do.

First stop: That guy who needs a divorce.
Second stop: Save everybody.

Priorities.

Page 10. Is this the end of the thread? Seems like a good place to leave off.

But if there's a thread 2, I'm sure as hell not complaining.

We got a lot of things we need to do. Our first stop should be to off the Citadel, the second should be to find that kid who is hiding in that attic with the clear paladins, then we can do divorce guy if he still wants it

And with that ladies and gentlemen, we have reach the final season.

New opening song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0WH8hCMeug

Next thread, while I map out a few plot points and things for you to henderson, will be on Sunday, August 18th, 3-5pm PST.

This is it folks. I'm hoping that this thing will end before I hit 125...but I know you all too well. Still, I'm aiming for that.

I'll also give you a full multi-character epilogue as well for anyone and everyone. Then I'm hanging up my quest hat for a while.

May His Light watch over you all.

I will certainly be there, echo. I'll desperately miss the quest when it's gone.
I really hope you revisit the universe later, with a different character perhaps, when you are done with your break. Wonder how everyone is doing in citadel.

ITS TIME
>>
>>26616755
Yes. Time to cement our place in history as the snake who destroyed paradise and ruined everything forever.
>>
>>26616741
I'm wondering just what of the other things we could get done. We've got a bunch of stuff we still need to finish up.
>>
>>26616741
>>26616758
Well, there's the epilogue to look forward to. I'm sad we never really got to interact with a whole lot of the characters again. Ava, adahn, tallow, ambrose, dana, and more. Once we're back in stone hall, hopefully.

"And then the Paladin Serpet drove into Citadel and said 'NO FUN ALLOWED', so everyone had to go home."

There's going to be so many problems once we free citadel.

Like that million-man-militia having something to say about first wood, for instance.

And all the starvation.
>>
>>26616790
oh, not to mention whatever damn plan kingfisher is up to in the citadel. Since he's in here.
>>
oh no
There are going to be the best sunning rocks here
