I've been mentioning that in like every fucking thread.

You are overcome by the desire to throw on the lights and shout 'GOTCHA!' at Roy, but common sense prevails in your mind- probably best not to interrupt nerds while they pursue their... nerdery. Instead you quietly enter the room and walk down along the tables until you find a computer screen with the back of a head silouetted.

She's tall, that much is for sure, with long blonde hair that pools down at the back of her chair as her hands move over the keyboard with a cat-ear headband perched on top of her head. "Finish the IS... We need to get over to the road before the river-path comes apart completely."

You startled when the third voice you heard comes out of the computer's speakers. "Do we need to flank? Want to just cap instead?"

"Not worth the chance- we flank them and we'll wipe them out..." You've actually got a passing knowledge of the game- Roy had you and Patrick playing with him for about a month a while back- you'd never made it past getting a KV before you'd lost interest due to owning and fighting in your own real tank.

What you do realise is that the girl's strategy is sound- there's enough of her team left to show that they if they aren't flanked and killed, they can easily split their force to protect their own base while taking yours. You and Miho watch for a few more minutes as the game progresses- Cat-Ears' aggressive strategy pays off as they managed to get behind the opposing force, enemy tanks moved back and force, unsure whether to push forward or turn to defend.

The game is over at that point- though the game ends about a minute later.

I really like the Maus design.

As the girl peruses the after-battle screen, you finally find your opening to say something. "Afternoon!" You say happily.

She adjusts the thick prescription glasses. "I- I was still coming down off the battle and you startled me..." You blink, realising that you'd jumped back behind Rose. You smoothly step back in front, hoping that nobody noticed that. Miho is cover a smile with an obviously placed hand to her mouth to stifle a cough. Rose just rolls her eyes. "You're the American! With the Pershing?" She says.

You nod your head. "Commander Russells." You say with a polite nod.

"That was a good choice to continue your attack into the enemy." Miho says politely.

She nods before speaking quietly. "I like to play a bit more aggressively than my platoonmates..." She admits, dipping her head. "Oh! I'm sorry! I'm so rude, my name is Nekota!"

No, but at least the Maus would have been able to take out other tanks in a tank vs. tank engagement, which was it's primary goal.

Whereas with some other "tanks", mainly japanese ones, you'd probably have more chance proceeding with a satchel charge on foot!

I remember playing that game ALL THE TIME in college. My roommate was my greatest fucking rival.

You pull a chair from a neighboring computer and take a seat. "You should've signed up for the senshado club!" You say. She releases the button and turns back to you. "Sorry, senshado sounds like a lot of fun, but I don't think I would've been much of a help. I only just play tanks online..."

Son, if you consider the engagement at Kummersdorf (which happened near Schweinfurt) a real battle, you should reconsider, because a bunch of engineers and field-testers does not an army make in the best of cases, and even less when outnumbered ten to one to one by a professional army. According to Fleischer (one of the few historians to write about the testing grounds) both Maus prototypes were sent out, but neither saw any action, with one being seized by the russians and anothe being blown up by it's crew before even reaching their intended destination.

And no, this is not a false dichotomy. While there's no shadow of a doubt the Maus design was heavily flawed as a MBT (unsurprising, considering the original idea was for the Maus to be a semi-mobile fortification rather than a full fledged tank, and only became the latter on insistence of Hitler), there were designs that failed at being useful in any role, except for "police" work or heavy tractor, because they were too slow, undergunned, and underarmored to be of any use on a battlefield!

While we all are talking about bad tank concepts...

The TOG II* was absolutely shitty and even the British dropped it.
The Valiant actively tried to kill its driver and the Brits also dropped that after one test.
The M3 LEE was a horrible tank. Everyone agrees that it was terrible. Despite its victories.
Every damn Cruiser tank before the Cromwell was a terrible idea from the start. And yet no one acknowledged that political horseshit of an idea was terrible until after the Cold War.
