Predator Quest: Episode 46

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue. Your investigations have ultimately led you to Earth - where you will strike out at Weyland-Yutani's headquarters.

The day grows late, but there is yet plenty to do. If you wish to succeed, you must be prepared for anything.

You turn to Steel-Arrow next.

What would you have him do?

A. Use his contacts in Yautja Prime to interview Blood-Crescent, the last hunter to hunt on Earth.
B. Have him take some time to work on improvements for his ship, making it more robust and deadly.
>>
>>26687869
B)

From what we know, the last guy on Earth reported it as a routine hunt. If he can't tell us anything we don't already know about humans and their synthetics, then it'd be wasted time. Let's just buff our ship some.

You ask him take some time to work on improvements for his ship, making it more robust and deadly. Steel-Arrow acknowledges, and tells you it will be done.

"I know just the technicians to contact. What would you like me to focus on when looking for improvements?"

You answer:

A. Focus on firepower.
B. Focus on speed.
C. Focus on armor.

You look to Seeking-Eye next. What would you have him do?

A. Use his expertise as a close range fighter to acquire and improve your team's melee weapons for combat.
B. Use his expertise as an urban fighter to examine the layout of the human city to plan an approach into the headquarters from the ground level.

You ask him to use his expertise as an urban fighter to examine the layout of the human city to plan an approach into the headquarters from the ground level.

You turn to Steel-Arrow, and tell him, "On a second thought, it's more important to put some armor on your ship. We'll need it if things turn sour."

Your team agrees.

You turn to Sharp-Strike. He is the youngest of your team, and could benefit from some focused training.

What would you have him do?

A. Train up his melee skills.
B. Focus on improving his ranged combat skills.

You tell him to work on improving his ranged skills, particularly with the plasma caster.

He promises to work hard and practice.

Having each given a task, your team disperses, each heading off to perform their own duty.

>A. Head off to to the space station and meet with your mentor.

You board your ship and head for the orbital defense station.

The guards greet you, and tell you Jackal-of-Carrion is waiting for you in the planning room. There, you find your mentor in intense discussion with several other elders, from various clans.

A large star map is projected on a holo-screen in front them. You recognize the map as that of Earth, and its surrounding systems.

As you stand there and listen, you are able to get a semblance of the nature of their argument. The elders gathered are respected tacticians of their respective clans.

They have been tasked with tracking the movement of the human fleet.

This particular argument is regarding a small, remote Colonial outpost, which is apparently the destination of several Weyland-Yutani warships.

Your mentor notes your arrival, and greets you.

"Ah Three-Claw. Good of you to join me. Perhaps you can shed some insight into our little dilemma here."

He points to the outpost. "This is unusual. Weyland forces are converging in on a small, insignificant outpost. Given the history of the Weyland clan and the colonial warriors, I believe they are planning to attack the outpost."

A second elder, whom you recognize to be from clan Fire-Forge, argues otherwise. "Yes, Three-Claw. Come, tell us your opinion. This outpost is so far removed that even sending our nearest ships would take a few days, and we are strained with resources as is. The outpost is so far away from anything remotely interesting, that I feel it does not justify our attention. Besides which, conflict among the humans is hardly our business. We should focus on tracking ships between us and Earth."

You say:

A. "I think we should investigate, but we should not intervene."
B. "I think we should investigate, and intervene to defend the outpost."
C. "I think we should leave them be."
>>
>>26688775
>B. "I think we should investigate, and intervene to defend the outpost."
We must not let Weyland gain power. If they do that it will be all-out war. Keep them and the Colonists fighting.
>>
>>26688775
B

If it is so out of the way, then why are they wasting their time and resources on it? must be something worth taking, something we don't want WY to have
>>
>>26688775
B.
Weyland are our enemies. Their failure results in our advantage. They are not dumb. They would not be heading to that remote outpost if there wasn't something of note for them there.
>>
>>26688775
I think that encouraging a good relationship with the official government of humanity is wise. Defending them is also wise, as if Weyland gains power it will play right into the conspirator's hands and war shall begin.

I'm voting for B.
>>
>>26688775
B There is obviously something important there that they want.
>>
I honestly think a long-term goal should be Weyland's complete destruction. They are the ones pushing the envelope with unrestricted research and they have too much power. Unaccountable to the human government. Uncontrollable.
>>
>>26688858
>>B.

"I think we should investigate, and intervene to defend the outpost," you tell them. "There must be a reason why they're willing to send warships after such a remote outpost, and it would benefit us to find out why, and stop them from doing so, if the need arises."

"Well said," your mentor exclaims. Once again, the elders delve in to a heated discussion, but after much debate, a vote was taken, and it's decided that the clans will investigate and intervene. Several hunting ships are pulled from a nearby patrol and directed towards the outpost.

Your mentor turns to you, and gestures you to look at the starmap. "I'm not sure whether to congratulate you on having been accepted by the Empress's agency or express my condolences to you for taking this suicide mission."

He taps the screen, and shows you a large array of fleet movements around the Terran solar system.

"That's a lot of ships, with new and unknown abilities and technology."

He pats you on the back. "Well, enough pleasantries. You and I know each other far too well for that. Let's talk business. I've now been officially given control of Cloud-Viper's space assets, so let's figure out how we can get you there in one piece."

He points to a list of several ships, among them a battleship and several smaller destroyers. "That's the Cloud-Viper fleet. Modest, I know, but they pack a good punch."

He continues, and discusses with you several propositions on what he thinks would aid your mission the most. You listen carefully to his plans, and decide to go with:

A. Use the fleet to stage a diversion by launching a hit-and-run attack on one of the larger Weyland fleets.
B. Use the fleet to shadow you as you journey to Earth, and be ready to jump in when you call.
C. Have the fleet meet you at Earth, on the outskirts of the solar system, where they will stay hidden to cover your escape.
>>
>>26689042
C
>>
>>26689042
Why not have them knock over that Weyland base on Europa?
>>
>>26689042
C. Have the fleet meet you at Earth, on the outskirts of the solar system, where they will stay hidden to cover your escape.
>>
>>26689093
It would be rolled into option C.
>>
>>26689122
Ok then I'll vote for C.
>>
Hopefully Ashen-Blade's human friends will find a way to help us.
>>
>>26689122
I'll vote for C in that case.
>>
>>26689141
>>C.

After much discussion, you opt to have the fleet meet you at Earth, on the outskirts of the solar system, where they will stay hidden to provide any support you need and cover your escape.

"Their presence will be useful, but also increase your chances of being detected. Keep that in mind," your mentor tells you. "I will lead the fleet myself, from the bridge of our battleship, the 'Striking-Asp'. Come, let us take a look at the captured ship."

He leads you out of the planning room to an observation deck, from which you can see the captured human ship hanging from an orbital scaffolding.

"We have replaced its previous navigation and computing systems with our own, fully capable of mimicking human systems. From our efforts at tracking, we've acquired several vessel codes with which to disguise your ship."

He summons a holo-screen, and shows you several human ship registrations and their details.

He asks you to choose one to imprint upon your captured ship.

You choose:

A. W.Y.S Black Swan: a Weyland-Yutani heavy cruiser on security rota from Pandora.
B. W.Y.S. Grand Scabbard: A heavy cruiser refit for transport duty, on a supply run from colony LV-448.
C. W.Y.S. Plymouth Sound: A decommissioned heavy cruiser bound for mothballing.
D. I.U.C.S. Acheron's Fall: A heavy cruiser recently sold to Weyland-Yutani's partner corporation, General Armaments.
>>
>>26689324
A, pandoran ships will be given right of way since its major R & D, and no-one wants to be fed to the xeno's for getting in the way
>>
>>26689324
>B. W.Y.S. Grand Scabbard: A heavy cruiser refit for transport duty, on a supply run from colony LV-448.
The mothballing one would make it harder to leave once we've shown up, the Pandora ship might encounter troubles because (I assume) there is an OP going on at Pandora while we're at Earth, so they may try to have our ship retained because of the uncertain fate of that outpost. Doing the supply run from a planet completely removed from our own situation is the best bet in my opinion.

You point to the ship W.Y.S. Grand Scabbard, a heavy cruiser refit for transport duty, on a supply run from colony LV-448.

"This one makes the most sense."

"Good," your mentor agrees. "I'll have the codes uploaded to the ship's computers immediately. I'll also have the hull re-painted to match the ship's description in the registrar."

He taps the holo-screen a few times, and brings up detailed schematics of the ship's interior.

"We've installed a Yautja foldspace engine along side the human's primitive jump drive. Using the fold-space drive will greatly decrease your journey time, but you'll want to use the human's jump drive if other human ships are nearby."

He points to several points on the hull. "Most of the external weapons are functional, but we've also added an internal missile bay which holds sixteen fusion torpedoes and twenty disruptor torpedoes."

He points to the ship's power plant. "To maintain the disguise, we've repaired the ship's original power plant, which still powers the ship. However, in its present state, its capacity is not enough to drive a cloaking system. We can, however, retrofit the power plant to increase its yield to accommodate a cloaking device, but the increased yield may cause discrepancies when scanned by human sensors. What do you think?"

You say:

A. Retrofit the ship's power plant and install a cloaking device.
B. Leave it as is, and forego the cloaking device.
>>
>>26689722
>B. Leave it as is, and forego the cloaking device.
>>
>>26689722
A. they wont stop us for a malfunctioning reactor, and if quizzed about it, we can say its functional and we're gonna have it looked at as soon as we're finished in dubai. the possibility of an easier escape is worth it

The point is stealth through subtlety.

"Good. That is all. I will have our engineers and technicians prepare the ship. It will be indistinguishable from the original ship of its namesake. This should not take long. Now, I must go prepare the fleet. When do you plan to embark?"

You reply:

A. "As soon as possible, preferably before those Weyland ships reach earth.

You acknowledge, and bid him farewell.

You return to your ship and head over to the Kraken-Slayer, parked in high orbit alongside the defence station. You show the hangar crew the Empress's sigil, and they escort you to the ship's bridge.

Flame-Mantle notes your arrival, and greets you.

"Ready to embark? What can I do for you?"

>A. Ask how the raid on Clan Night-Prowler's palace is going.

"How is the raid going?" You ask.

"As well as can be hoped. We've breached the inner defences and are getting into position to assault the sactum. We've lost two warriors so far, but it shouldn't take long now. Death-Gifter is calling out to his remnant allies to aid him, but most of those have either been killed off or surrendered to us."

"Good. He's caused enough bloodshed." You decide to ask Flame-Mantle regarding access to the agency armory.

"Of course," he tells you, and summons one of his officers. He introduces the new comer. "This is our quartermaster, Frost-Glaive. He will show you to the armory."

Frost-Glaive beckons you to follow. He leads you two levels down to a large chamber. He flicks a switch on the wall, and several racks descend from the ceiling, each containing a variety of war gear, the most of which you've never seen before. The racks are categorized and arranged base don purpose. You also notice a jet black hoverbike sitting on a rack against the far wall.

>>A. Compact explosives

You take a look at the rack loaded with a variety of compact explosives. The quarter master explains the function of each as you look over them.

Several items catch your eye. The first is a egg-like device which fits neatly in your palm. You twist the top open to reveal a small control panel. The quartermaster tells you that it's a fission bomb, with a yield comparable to the detonation yield of an honor device. There is only one in stock.

You lay your hands on a second rod-like device, which the quartermaster explains is a cluster grenade. The rod, when thrown, detonates silently and releases a cloud of fragments, capable of piercing through and shredding any soft tissue in milliseconds. There are three in stock.

You turn your attention to a series of small sphere-like devices. He tells you that when donated, these will release a cloud of chaff, a strong but localized ECM burst, and emit a blinding flash. It's excellent for neutralizing electronics and blinding visual sensors. There are four in stock.

The last item on a rack is a thin sheet of blue paper, rolled up into a thin strand. The quarter master explains to you that this thin sheet is actually a corrosive chemical explosive. When detonated, a catalyst causes the sheet to turn into a strong liquid acid, capable of melting through anything. Excellent for breaching doors or walls silently. There are two in stock.

He informs you that you're authorized to take your pick of any two kinds.

Which two do you pick?

A. The small egg-like fission bomb.
B. 3 cluster fragmentation grenades
C. 4 disruption grenades
D. 2 sheet explosives

B. Armor attachments

You turn your attention to the rack containing the armor attachments. The quartermaster informs you that unlike the explosives, there is enough stock of each to kit out your whole team.

You turn your attention first to a large back-pack attachment with three plasma nozzles embedded into the back. "Jetpack," the quartermaster tells you simply. "Enough fuel for two hours of continuous hover."

You turn next to another sleek and smaller backpack. You touch the fabric and realize that it folds out. The quartermaster explains to you that it's a portable glider. The wings open up and allow you to enter a limited but controllable state of flight from a high place to a low place.

You turn your attention next to a lightweight, thin, metallic vest which fits comfortably underneath your armor. "Experimental ablative under-weave," the quartermaster explains. "Capable of taking a plasma-caster shot point blank. Works by ejecting micro-plates at the point impact. Careful, though, successive hits by even small arms fire will wear it down quickly."

You turn your attention next to a light shoulder harness. The quartermaster tells you it's used for mounting a second plasma-caster. It comes with its own targeting computer and its own vision mask linkage systems.

He once again informs you you're authorized to take two types of such wargear.

Which two do you pick?

A. Jetpack
B. Deployable glider
C. Light ablative vest
D. Secondary plasma-caster harness
>>
>>26691025
SECOND PLASMA CASTER
We're in city fighting, so jetpack and wings are both non-optimal, so ablative vest
>>
>>26691025
B. and C.
Jetpack might run out of fuel too fast.
Protection and high altitude escape is where it's at.
>>
>>26691025
Do we have the ridiculous jumping ability from the Predator films and Concrete Jungle?
>>
>>26691025
C & D

B. Deployable glider
C. Light ablative vest

I can see it now, we shall fly like a glorious seagull from the top of Weyland's tower.
>>
>>26691025
D for ourselves and whoever is range focused.
C for Sharp-Strike.

Jetpacks for everyone.
>>
>>26691071
We must.

I'm torn between B and C, or C and D.
>>
>>26691080
Actually, this anon brings up a good point. The gliders may make for a good escape option when we need to get out of their big ass tower.Which is the tallest structure in Dubai.
>>
>>26691025
C and D
>>
>>26691025
C & D. flight in a city is silly
>>

Yes, we are able to jump and climb quite well.

B and C.

C and D

>>26691139
you replied to the wrong post...
>>
Well, looks like we're tied between

B and C
C and D

So we are definitely taking C, which is the ablative vest.

Need to decide now bewteen B or D.
>>
The first two are really just situational utility options, whereas the last two will have more application in any combat situation.
>>
>>26691150
B. for me.
We'll make up for the lack of a second gun in the personal weapons locker later.

D

D, the additional firepower is worth it, plasma casters are bullshit powerful

D, the plasma caster has been of incredible use throughout our career

D. The most important info will probably be underground, so we won't have a chance to use the glider.

Voting B.

as >>26691215 said, top floor is always penthouse/CEO quarters. R&D is always in the basement, behind the blast shields. therefore, D

You tell the quartermaster you'd like to requisition the vests and the harnesses. He informs you he'll have them delivered to your ship's storage.

Which rack would you like to examine next?

A. Personal weapons
B. The hover bike,

Oh god yes.

A.
Time for killy stuff.

And I suppose even if we end up on the top floor, we could always use the grappling hook from the combi-stick and bungie jump out. If it can carry a humongous fis, it could bear our own weight easily.

>>A. Personal weapons

You walk over to the personal weapons rack, and notice a variety of light weapons.

You first turn to an exotic-looking plasma caster the likes of which you've never seen before. The quartermaster informs you that it's a prototype rapid fire kinetic caster. Rather than shooting plasma bolts, it shoots small crystalline needles at an extremely high rate. It's silent, and the needles do not leave a trail. As a bonus, it can be set to shoot down incoming grenades or rockets. There is only one in stock.

Next, you turn your attention to a pair of small plasma pistols. The quartermaster tells you they're compact and completely silent. Each shot carries enough force to burn clean through any organic tissue. There are two such pistols in stock.

Next, you look to a wrist-mounted dart launcher which uses very peculiar ammunition. It's a disruptor dart launcher. Each dart contains a small disruptor warhead, and can be fired from extremely long ranges with accuracy. It allows you to disable electronic devices silently from range. There are two such launchers in stock.

You then turn to a series of small daggers. The quartermaster takes one, and twists the handle. A moment later, the blade flashes blue, and you can see arcs of lightning jetting from the blade. "Good for rapid incapacitation. Stops the victim from making noise," he tells you. "Damn effective for taking down synthetics." There are many such knives in stock.

Once again, he asks you to choose two.

Which do you choose:

A. The needle-caster.
B. Two compact plasma pistols.
C. Two disruptor dart launchers.
D. Electro-shock throwing knives.

B and D

B & C
>>
>>26691504
A. and D.
Let's put that harness to use.
And there may be non-combatants present, but may be disruptive to our operation. Gotta think about our own honor code too.
>>
>>26691504
If we don't use the needle caster, will we get a second plasma caster for our harness?
>>
>>26691504
A & D
>>
>>26691569
Yes, you'll take a standard plasma caster.
>>
>>26691504
A and B.

A can shoot down rockets and grenades. That is awesome.
>>
>>26691504
D is damn useful for synths and quiet killing
B isn't that great in comparison to D
C is alright
A is pretty good for multi-purpose killing
all in all, A and D
>>
>>26691504
A and D. Changing vote to A and D.
>>

>>26691593

Looks like the A and Ds have it.

>A & D

You point to the needle-caster and the electro-shock throwing knives. "I'll take those," you tell him.

The quartermaster acknowledges, and tell you he'll have them sent to your ship immediately.

Thanks for playing everyone! See you next time

(which may or may not be tomorrow; not sure yet. check my twitter.)

PS: I'll add our new gear to the gear sheet and upload that next session.
>>
It just occurred to me that the whole team will be kitted out with dual plasma casters.
We can actually afford some range variety for this Op.
Not to mention that sounds really awesome. I'm psyched to go planetside already.

Ha. Can't wait for next thread.
>>
>>26691504
Should have picked C and D. Would allow us to make a complete stealth run. We've already got spear guns.
>>
>>26691798
C. might be a bit redundant, what with us having disruption grenades already.
Then again, we also have redundant ranged weaponry, but at least their functions are sufficiently different enough to cover any potential weaknesses.
Casters seem to work best at medium range anyway, so the Spearguns still have their niche for long range take downs.

Polite, post-quest discussion sage.

I'm just not sure grenades are silent.
