I used a 3V button battery holder for this project, since it's amall enough to just attach to the side of the gun, giving you access to the battery.

I put it above the grip. If you choose this location, too, make sure it's not on the same side as your trigger finger. Mark where it's contacts will go into the gun

Put the case aside for now, to fix a glaring design flaw of the maverik, the derpy drum.

dremel off the two little nubs on the back and the large bar on it's front which hold the drum back.

This way the drum will be able to flip out all the way

Solder one of the wires to the switch and another third wire as well.
Dremel out a square in the size of your switch in front of the trigger and glue the switch in.
This way you can easily use your trigger finger to switch the lights on and off

Solder the two wires coming off of the switch to the LEDs. Make sure the polarity is correct. Unlike regular bulbs, LEDs only work with the right polarity.

I used a little bit of self hardening polymer clay to hold the LEDs in place, but hot glue will work as well.

With that being done, glue 2-4 pennies together and put them behind the spring.
This will restrict the spring, giving it a bigger punch and giving the gun a nice, metallic CLING sound with every shot.
Dont overdo it, or you wont be able to cock it anymore.

"aged" paper.

Just put regular printer paper into either black tea, or coffee.
Coffe is quicker and gives a more even color, while tea usually takes a few hours, but gives interesting shapes and shades.
If you iron the dried sheets, you can even use them in an inkjet printer.

Personally, I prefer the tea method.

Another little project from way back.
A magical crystal prop.

You'll need any sort of container (I used one of those cheap wooden chests you can get at michaels,etc ). Color changing LEDs. Either the flashing, or shifting ones, both work well. I prefer the ones that gradually shift the colors, since it looks more magical. Soldering tools, battery case, switch and some sort of crystal. I used selenite, but in a pinch a few glued together shards of clear PVC will do as well

Another great idea for a prop using crystals and LEDs.

Drill out a bit on top of any staff and glue the LED circuit in. Add a crystal with hot glue.
Add little wooden dowels to the sides of the crystal and glue them on too, to reinforce it all.

Now mix paper mache with fabric starch and a little bit of wood glue and form a smooth transition between the staff and crystal, hiding the glue and electronics.
Paint the paper mache once it's dry to make it look natural.
You can cover the batteries with s strip of leather

It's maybe a couple hours. Not much more than getting the tea going anyway. The hardest part is probably assembling the wood frame, which is just gluing it together and stapling the wire mesh on, and only needs to be done once if you want all your paper the same size anyway.

Copy-pasting some tutorial I gave earlier.

How to make a plague doctor mask for your LARP costume:

-get medical plaster strips (the ones with the fabric base).
-liberally grease up your face with vaseline (no really)
-grab your buddy, or sweetheart and let them apply the wet strips to your face to make a basic mask. Leave out the eyes and nostrils, obviously.
- once the mask is dry, take it off and straighten the edges with a good pair of scissors.
-now take a styrofoam cone. You can get them at any art supply store. It will become the base of your beak.
-cut the cone in two from it's tip to the base. Make the cut a bit off center.
-cut out a triangular piece out of both halves and hot glue them back together to give the beak a down turn
-Hot glue the two pieces back together, but slide the smaller half back a little to have the lower jaw shorter.
-cut a piece out of the base of the cone where your nose and mouth will be. Also cut nostrils into it, they will make breathing much easier.
-hot glue the cone to the mask
-take tin foil, wrap it up and form the basic features of the mask (eyebrows, cheeks, etc) with it. Hot glue.everything in place
-take more of the plaster strips and cover the mask, forming its features and safely securing the beak to the base mask.
-once it is dry, cover it with either paper mache, or regular plaster, both works.
-once THAT is dry, sandpaper it carefully
-paint your mask to your liking
-cut out a fitting piece of soft fabric and hot glue it on the inside. This will make wearing it MUCH more comfy
-add decorations
-drill holes into the sides and attach straps to it

To add onto this method, you can also make a more envelope based paper to wrap letters in with the same method, just using a balsamic vinegar to cure the paper.

Only downside is it does smell a bit. Adding a little something to the mixture to tame the vinegar smell isn't a bad idea so long as it's not very acidic.

Then you can make your own wax seal stamps in a variety of methods. Since I make a few different stamps, it'd be too expensive to make actual metal custom stamps.

Instead I take a piece of plaster with a smooth surface, scratch out the design, and make a stamp out of air-dry clay. You'll just need to make sure you apply something to stop the wax from sticking to it and creating the necessary moisture barrier.

As for the edges, it's more useful to the end user untrimmed. They can trim it if they please; but if you trim it and their project calls for untrimmed edges, they're pretty well fucked.

I'd rather pay someone who's good at making nice looking larp weapons to get a nice looking one than make it myself, because I do not have the time to devote to making dozens of weapons to get good at making them look nice. The cheapest place to get them (near here, anyway) is to get them at the aforementioned big larp events, rather than online. One, you avoid shipping fees. Two, you get to pick up and swing the weapon yourself and see if you like the weighting. Three, it's often cheaper, especially if it's near the end of an event when they're looking to move a bit more stock. Also, you get to participate in whatever event it was. Mass battles are not a thing I do all the time, but they're very fun.

for wood, the simplest way to make a decent looking weapon is to find a plank of a hickory, oak or maple with no knots along where you plan the sword, then with a pencil trace out your sword, excluding the pommel or cross guard unless you aren't worried about how strong the guard will be, in which case draw 'em on, once you're happy, trace the final sketch in sharpie. then use a jig saw to cut out the sword.
if the sword is all one piece, take a sander (belt/rotary) and smooth out the grip, pommel and guard, then use a belt sander or some sandpaper and your hand and sand the blade to shape.
if you wanted a stronger guard, you'll trace the pommel and guard on an unused piece of your wood and cut them out now as well. use a sander (belt, rotary or by hand, and round the grip, use a hole drill or the jig saw to cut out the middle of your guard and slide it on, you want it to fit snugly, but slide smooth,take it off, and spread 5 minute epoxy around where you want it, then slide it on a final time. wipe off excess epoxy quickly, attach the pommel though epoxy as well. then sand the blade and sword to preference
use a wood finish on the completed sword, to make it look nice and last longer

I love it when the butcher gets boar in. So fucking good. You think pig tastes good? Boar is like pig, but more so.

Good mead is a great drink. Not an everyday drink, by far. I'd reccomend Moniack - it's the best brand I've found, and the pagans I know swear by it (literally) rather than various other brands. You can also make it fairly easily yourself, but the quality will vary.

"Chicken in Cola Sauce"

You will need:
-Chicken breast
-Coke (NOT diet!)
-Ketchup
-BBQ-sauce
-Something that's sweet and sour. I used cranberry sirup
-Some parsley, salt, pepper, rosemary and whatever else strikes your fancy

- cut your chicken into bite sized bits
- mix 1/3rd of a cup each of the coke, BBQ-sauce and ketchup. Add a nice dash of the sirup and add the spices.
-put the meat into a small casserolle. I covered them with powdered parmesano cheese, but it really didn't do anything, so you can skip this step. A more fatty, melty cheese might work better
- cover the meat with the sauce and put it into a preheated oven at 180°C (figure out yourself what that's in °F) and bake for about 40 minutes
- Cook noodles in the meantime
-Take out the meat and cover the noodles with the sauce.

"Rocky Mountain Sweet Slices"

What you'll need:
-Frosted cornflakes (I used some that also have some nuts in them)
-Marshmallows
-Honey
-Butter
-Cinnamon

- weigh off 3.5oz (~100g) of the marshmellows and 2 cups of cornflakes
- melt some butter in a pan over low heat
- Throw in the marshmellows and stir until they are completely melted. Be careful not to burn them
- Once they are completely melted, add maybe 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir in
- gradually add the cornflakes under constant stirring. Be careful not to grind the flakes up, though. You still want them to be crunchy
-Once properly mixed, pour the whole mass onto a sheat of aluminum foil, or baking parchment. ADD A THIN COAT OF NON STICK SPRAY! trust me on this.
Quickly spread it into a ~1/2inch thick sheat, before it cools.
- Once everything is cooled down, use a pizza cutter to cut it into little squares.

layered potions!

Take three seperate cups of water and add different food dyes to each.
Ad sugar to the first cup until no more will desolve in it.
Put half that much sugar into the second bowl and half of THAT into the third.

Carefully pour the three liquids into a bottle, starting with the most sugar, then medium, then least.
excessive shaking will ruin the effect so be careful.

Alternatively, use alcohol, instead of sugar

the trick is patience, make sure the sketch is right before cutting, and be slow with the cutting, especially on the straights if using a jigsaw.
and don't try to sand the blade down in a couple of passes, I'd easily spend an hour or so sanding down the blades so that they'd be smooth, if you press too hard with a belt sander you'll make a deep groove that fucks up the shape.

on a semi-related note, some foam weapons I've made. not using silver ductape goes a long way as far as looking decent goes
excuse, some of them (especially the far right) as ductape is my quick fix for when something comes lose until I can get it back in the shop.
