Predator Quest: Episode 57

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue. Your investigations have ultimately led you to Earth - where you will strike out at Weyland-Yutani's headquarters.

The Weyland-Yutani corporate data center is a massive, 5 story tall, cavernous room filled with rising pillars housing modular data storage clusters.

These are maintained by a few small, autonomous floating drones which occasionally pause to spray coolant.

They seem to be unarmed, and you notice no guards in the vicinity.

Suddenly, you hear a clattering noise behind you.

You quickly turn, pry open the lift door, and look down. Through the metal grating of the lift floor, you see several hard-meat drones crawling up the elevator shaft!

Do you:

A. Close the lift door and weld it shut with a plasma torch.
B. Fire through the lift floor and attempt to hold them off with firepower. (DC: Medium-hard)
C. Send the lift back to R&D, hopefully crushing the drones and delaying them.

>>B. Fire through the lift floor and attempt to hold them off with firepower. (Pass, DC 13)

You direct your teammates' attention to the lift and order them to open fire.

Your plasma bolts tear through the lift platform and turn the metal plates into white-hot debris. Your shots rip through the crawling black forms beneath.

One by one, they drop, but not quick enough. They are gaining speed, and the more agile forms leap from wall to wall to dodge your shots.

Suddenly, a large blast door slams down in front of you, separating your team from the elevator shaft.

A machine-like voice begins to announce an alert. "Warning, bio-containment breach detected in data center block. Initiating Cryo-purge protocols."

You notice several nozzles extend from the ceiling. They begin to spew some sort of coolant. Your visor tells you the ambient temperature is dropping rapidly.

You are far more resilient to temperature variations than soft-meat, but you do have your limits, and if the rate at which the temperature is dropping stays constant, you estimate you'll only have a matter of minutes before you freeze solid.

Steel-Arrow and Seekig-Eye quickly sprint to the other side of the room, looking for an exit, while Burning-Scythe ignites his plasma torch and begins to cut the blast door, but the door is thick, and progress is not encouraging.

Do you:

A. Look for a control panel or anything wired to the security controls.
B. Start shooting at the coolant nozzles.
C. Take your armor's power supply and catalyse it to create heat; this will destroy the power pack in the process.

>>A. Look for a control panel or anything wired to the security controls.

You notice a panel on the far wall. It seems to be connected to some sort of interface from one of the nozzles.

You rush over, tear the panelling off, and insert two probes extending from your wrist computer. Your suspicion was correct - this is indeed the control panel for the cryo-containment systems.

You notice it's heavily encrypted, and can only be unlocked given the right authorization. While you can hack through the encryption, it will be a long and tedious process.

However, you may be able to jam the system and slow down the coolant release, but such an action will guarantee you'll be detected, and lock you out from further actions.

Do you:

A. Leave the panel alone.
B. Attempt to decrypt it and gain full control of the security system (DC: Hard)
C. Attempt to jam it with faulty data and slow down the rate of the coolant release. (DC: Medium)

>>
>>27255897
B. Attempt to decrypt it and gain full control of the security system (Critical Fail)

You begin the decryption process. The encryption is strong, but no match for your hacking routines. You carefully unravel the various security protocols, making good speed.

When you think you've got it all figured out, you enter the cryptographic sequence to give you access. The system accepts your code, and suddenly locks you out. In your haste to crack the encryption, you neglected to notice a secondary encryption hidden underneath the primary.

Suddenly, all around you, the maintenance drones come to life. One of them turns towards Sharp-Strike, and begin to open fire with a small caliber rifle.

Sharp-Strike, taken by surprise, takes several hits to his ablative vest, and one to his neck. Steel-Arrow, nearby, quickly dashes forward and slices the drone in two.

Sharp-Strike collapses to the ground, fluorescent blood pumping from his wound.

He takes a healing shot from his belt and quickly injects Sharp-Strike with it, and seals the wound with a coagulant. He turns to you. "He needs medical attention."

Dozens of drones erupt from the various corners of the room and begin to hover menacingly towards you. Your team opens fire on them. In the meantime, temperature is still dropping.

You order your team to stop what they're doing and open fire on the drones, holding them at bay. Everything you do now, you'll need to do under fire.

Do you:

A. Start shooting at the coolant nozzles.
B. Take your armor's power supply and catalyse it to create heat; this will destroy the power pack in the process.
C. Use your advanced visor to carefully scan the walls for structural weaknesses.
D. Pick up Burning-Scythe's plasma torch and start cutting the blast door.

Ah fuck. We're gonna need to bug out fast for this one now.
Demolition time it is.

Also, can we have Quick-Shadow and Ashen-Blade go and retrieve the ship? We might need to do the equivalent of "Getting to da choppa."
>>
>>27256222
There are actually two ships, but I agree. We need extraction now.
>>
Time to leave! We got the data we wanted and some good recon. Now we need to GTFO and do as much damage on the way out as we can.
>>
>>27256314
Yea. I was hoping we could get some data from the corporate data centers. There is likely to be a lot of sensitive information here that could bury Weyland.

Now though I'm afraid that's an impossibility. Merely getting out is troublesome enough.
>>
>>27256222

>>C. Use your advanced visor to carefully scan the walls for structural weaknesses.

You scan the walls with your visor. The walls are thick, and emit a strong electro-magnetic field which shield the room from outside interference.

The walls themselves, however, are not particularly strong. You take out one of the sheet breaching charges and set to work.

You plaster the sheet against the wall and detonate it. The sheet flashes white, and turns to acid, slowly eating through the wall.

You turn to Steel-Arrow, cradling the injured Sharp-Strike while holding off the drones. "How is he?"

"Not good. It was a very unlucky shot - caught a major blood vessel. I've sealed the wound and sedated him. We need to get him onboard our ship."

You summon Ashen-Blade on comms. "Sharp-Strike's been hit. We need an extraction."

"Right. Well, we've got six Weyland gunships patrolling the area. There's a massive firefight going on in the lobby, and about fifty hard-meat warriors crawling towards the roof. I don't see how we can get you out of there in a hurry."

You say:

A. "Get our ships and shoot down those gunships."
B. "We'll try to climb to the roof. Have a ship meet us there."
C. "Call our human allies. Have them bring the battle cruiser to low orbit."
>>
>>27256371
B.
Have them take one apiece. The one with the med-pod will do the extraction, while the other one will shoot the gunships down.

"Get our ships and shoot down those gunships," you tell them.

"Understood. We're on it. Hang on."

You close the comms and quickly turn to the breaching charge.

It's already melted a sizable hole in the thick wall, and a warm gust of air flows in.

Peeking outside, you see several gunships hovering about.

Do you:

A. Attempt to engage the gunships.
B. Step outside and start climbing towards the roof.
C. Tap into the data storage clusters while your team prepares the ship.
>>
>>27256526
C.
No one is going out in the open til those gunships are smoking wrecks.
>>
>>27256526
C. Get the data! Do not draw attention by attacking the ships. It will make our eventual extraction more difficult. Also, Sharp-Strike can't climb in his condition.

I'm thinking they will blast through the wall. Perhaps they'll part closely while under cloak so we can jump into the ship.
>>
The Shipmaster said our father's cannons could level mountains.
>>
Yeah get the data, we should have enough time if this archive is smaller than the other one.

Given how secret these databases are supposed to be there is likely few (if any) backups of the information. How much ordnance do we have left? We should definitely destroy the mainframe before we leave.
>>
>>27256615
I'm betting these archives have far more info than the other ones. This is Weyland HQ. This stuff probably has info on everything. We won't be able to take it all.

We'll get what we can and get out. No greediness.
>>
>>27256549
>>27256552

>>C. Tap into the data storage clusters while your team prepares the ship.

You order your team to hold a perimeter around the breach, where the warm, outside air can help stave off the cold a little longer. They form up around you and continue firing at the endless waves of drones, holding them off.

You take your two probes and jab them into a nearby data center.

You brute force your way through its encryption and gain access to a variety of information, most of it administrative, but you won't have time to extract all of it. You'll need to be selective.

What files do you extract?

A. Weyland-Yutani's financial records.
B. Weyland-Yutani's confidential comm archives.
C. Corporate asset list
D. Personnel records
E. List of research projects, both confidential and public.
>>
>>27256635
>B. Weyland-Yutani's confidential comm archives.
We need to destroy the beast completely, and incriminating info will be there. Sure, we can get the research data, and then what? Weyland will still exist. Some of our tech might be safe but it will only delay the inevitable. It will happen again.

We need to destroy Weyland, and we'll do that by giving the other humans knowledge of Weyland's activities like their raids on colonial ouposts.
>>
>>27256635
Tough call. Gonna go with
>B.

Implicate the head honchos of this group.
>>
>>27256635
B That would give hard proof of their misdeeds.
>>
>>27256658
>>27256667
>>27256688

>>B. Weyland-Yutani's confidential comm archives.

You quickly navigate to confidential comm archives and commence the info dump. As the information is being transferred, you turn your attention to the incoming drones.

They seem to be appearing faster than you can take down. You press your back to the wall, next to the breach, and try your best to stave them off.

After a what seems like an eternity, the file transfer completes. You stash the data and unplug the probes. A short while later, you hear a thundering explosion that shakes the ground.

You peer out to see the tail half of one of the gunships falling towards the ground. its frontal half has been vaporized by plasma fire. The ships are here.

You have an incoming call on your comms. "Three-Claw, Quick-Shadow here. Ashen-Blade is holding off the gunships. I'm outside, now."

You hear the familiar while of your ship's engines. You peer outside, and see the unmistakable outline of your ship.

It suddenly jerks to the left, as a missile slams into it. The plasma turrets respond with return fire, and strafe down a nearby human gunship.

You say:

A. "Hold your position and open the rear hatch, then back up towards the breach."
B. "Too dangerous here. Get to the roof! We'll meet you there."
C. "Can you get the ship in here?"
>>
>>27256803
>A. "Hold your position and open the rear hatch, then back up towards the breach."
Just a little bit longer.
B is silly because there are going to be a large amount of hard-meat drones.
>>
>>27256803
>C. "Can you get the ship in here?"
>>
>>27256803
C. Seems crazy, but actually makes a bit of sense. They don't want to fire on their own data center. It also protects us from hardmeat.
>>
>>27256803
C.
Dynamic ship entry.
>>
>>27256837
>>27256847

>>C.

"Can you get the ship in here?" You ask.

There's a pause. "Yes. Get clear."

You quickly motion your team to back away from the wall. "Clear!" you shout.

You hear the humming of the ship's engine as it powers up. Suddenly, you're deafened by the loud roar of your ship's plasma gatling cannon firing. The burst of heavy fire tears the wall to your side to shreds. Thousands of plasma shards punch through the thick wall, across the room, and out the other side.

The wall collapses explosively inwards, as your ship smashes through it. The momentum plows through the various data storage stacks and obliterates the mass of maintenance drones.

The ship comes to a stop, and lands itself with a loud thump. Debris showers from the ceiling.

You hear the sound of chittering footsteps. You turn to see two warrior drones climbing their way through the large hole in the wall.

Your ship's rear hatch opens, revealing a prone Quick-Shadow cradling his heavy spear gun. A shot rings out, and one of the warrior drones fly backwards as a large caliber spear hammers into its head.

"Quickly, " he calls out to you.

You direct your team to board the ship. Steel-Arrow and Seeking-Eye carefully prop Sharp-Strike on their shoulders while Burning-Scythe opens fire on the remaining drones. Steel-Arrow turns to you. "We'll need some time to secure Sharp-Strike to the medical pod." You acknowledge. You hear more chattering. More hard-meat are on their way.

Do you:

A. Get inside the Death-Adder and cover them with its heavy weapons.
B. Wait until everyone onboard and seal the ship.
C. Climb outside and try to distract the drones and gunships.

A moment later, the rear hatch opens, and

You climb into the cockpit of the Death-Adder and motion Quick-Shadow to prepare a medical pod for Sharp-Strike. You rev up the plasma turrets and open fire at a nearby wave of drones.

You meet their charge with your heavy plasma bolts. Several are vaporized instantly. The rest hesitate, and back down. In the distance, a human gunship begins to charge towards you.

You lock your reticue onto its profile and open fire. Plasma bolts rip through its side, forcing it to the ground below.

You hear Ashen-Blade shout over comms, "More gunships! And something heavier coming down from orbit. We need to go, now!"

"Right! Done!" Steel-Arrow shouts in response. "Let's go."

Quick-Shadow rushes over and hits the switch to the rear hatch. It begins to close.

You leap out of the Death-Adder and sprint to the bridge of your ship.

You activate the engines, and put your hand over the throttle. You glance at your sensors. You see multiple incoming ships, one of which is capital ship sized.

You throttle up the engines and push forward. Your ship explodes out from the breach and into the sky beyond. Immediately, your sensors begin to blare a warning. Multiple vessels have locked on to you, and a flurry of missiles are inbound.

You break hard, dodging them. Behind you, Ashen-Blade pulls up in his ship, and begins to open fire on your pursuers. The pair of you weave and dodge through the missiles, and tilt your ships skywards.

You make your break for Earth's orbit.
