You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. Having returned to Sector Paxia under an assumed name and with your fellow pirate Captain Morix, you found your family upon the brink of ruin. Taking your elder sister Alica and younger sister Synne into your crew, you set about obtaining the knowledge of the passage between Sectors Paxia and Corgus, a mission from the wolfpack's leader you'd volunteered for. Chancing upon a Lord Commissar at a bar, your decision to keep the late Captain Menexel's journals allowed you to share tales of the Third Ionian Crusade with the Lord Commissar, gaining you limited access to the Imperial Navy's information. After acquiring some scraps of another wolfpack's demise from the Navy, you found yourself with a chance to join a Navy convoy into Corgus. Obtaining the charts required to complete your mission, you turned your vessel over to the Chief Navigator Erin Veritas and braced for an expected year-long trip according to the galaxy.

Alarm klaxons blare, rousing you from yet another foray into Captain Menexel's journals. Your quarters buck violently, nearly throwing you from the mag-locked chair and desk. The cryptex your father left to you rolls loudly across your desk, nearly falling to the floor before your hand grasps it firmly. Returning the item to the box it was gifted in and securing it within the desk, you head for the bridge. Your officers are already at their stations, Keller in the poorest state of dress with only a pair of pants worn. Must be another one of his Sly Marbo days.

"Report."

The disembodied voice of your navigator sounds from the small vox unit within your throne's arm. "Warp storm, Captain Aurex. The convoy's formation has been scattered, though I last saw two distinct groups that we've been separated from." The mutant's voice is strained, each word spoken as though it required intense concentration.

"Advinessa, the Gellar Field?"

"Prayers are being offered unto the venerable system and it is operating at optimal levels. Praise the Omnissiah."

>Most powerful and glorious Emperor, Who commands the winds and eddies of the galaxy

"Erin, can you bring us back to the other groups?"

>We miserable men are adrift in peril, We cry unto Thee for help

Sorry for last week, work called tuesday night and then I ended up in Miami all day on friday.

I'm gonna make some food and let the rest of this lightning storm pass. Should get rolling in about an hour.

As to someone's question as to hats... Hats are going to be more akin to achievement rewards, not goods you find in a shop. Asking to buy hats at trade stations is a waste of your time and mine.

I say let's drift with the warp storm's currents. Sure who knows where it will take us, but it's better than us damaging our warp engines.

Did we get separated from Captain Morix's vessel as well?

"Drift with the storm's currents. We know where to meet up with the rest. Any chance you know which group Morix ended up with?"

"I can not say, Captain."

You quietly finish and repeat the Prayer for the Lost and the Endangered, noting that a good number of your crew seem to share your attitude toward a bit of prayer never really being a bad thing...

A day passes as the warp storm rages, the Gellar field flaring several times as your navigator's skill or reflex is bested by the nightmares that continually haunt your crew. Orsola reports a sharp increase in crew members being treated for exhaustion, first dozens and then hundreds unable or unwilling to sleep due to the persistant whispers and howls of the immaterium.

With little warning, your vessel trembles and the welcome crackle of the vox system greets you. "Vessel is clear of warp. All hands report to stations and prepare for void operations."

You arrive upon the bridge in time to see your exhausted Chief Navigator being removed from the tangle of wires and tubes that sustain her flesh during her lengthy vigils. Orsola's mechadendriates dance about the pale mutant's form, monitoring vitals as a half dozen of the navigator's serfs care to their master. With a sickeningly wet hiss, Erin is removed from the navigator's throne and placed upon a stretcher. "To the medicae with her." As the serfs depart the bridge, your Medicae Officer turns to you. "Navigator will recover, body undamaged."
>>
>>27285995

With a sigh you wave Orsola away to her duties, taking your place upon the command throne and send your bridge crew into action. Your sensors take only a few hours to give you a picture of the system your navigator has chosen as a haven. A rotating neutron star forms the heart of this gravity well, a few lonely comets on seemingly terminal orbits of the star the only feature beyond the pulsing center.

As your vessel's warp shutters slowly retract and your crew begins to crawl across the vast hull in search of damage, Synne and Alica head toward the parade bridge. Elise is the first to demand your attention, however. "Captain, we've consumed nearly two weeks worth of supplies, so we should have been near the first waypoint before the storm threw us off course. How long shall we give the warp storm, and the crew, before we attempt to move on? A day? A week?"

"Three days, longer if the ship or crew need longer."

In a blur, you find your vessel once again tearing a hole in reality and flying into the Immaterium of the warp. The warp storm seems to have calmed, and a rested Erin finds little difficulty setting your ship back toward it's original course. In two days, you arrive at the convoy's first waypoint to find only a beacon left behind.

"Continued to Waypoint 2. Emperor guide you Captains Menexel, Anders, Morix."

Taking the expected week to prepare your vessel for another lengthy warp journey, your Enginseers finally confirm that your ship is prepared for the difficult series of jumps ahead.

Six jumps into the series, you're called to the bridge by your Chief Navigator.

"Captain, the augers are showing contacts among the warp shoals we're winding our way through. They're likely to be sensor ghosts, but there are few enough that despite their movement it could be an actual contact."

The warp shoal ripples as your vessel nears the contact, a massive tendril lashing at your vessel and gripping at the gellar field before forcing it's way into the thin layer or realspace that protects your ship. The hull whines as the tendril tightens, a deep rumbling reverberating through the decking as Erin pushes the engines hard. Time seems to linger, your palm itching as you grip your command throne. With a mighty jolt, the tendril snaps within your gellar field and your ship breaks free.

"Captain, I was able to view what I believe to be the contact. It appeared to be a space hulk captured by the shoals."

As your heart beats wildly in your ears, you offer a prayer of thanks to the Emperor.

With a smirk, you stab at the vox rune once again and tell Erin your mind.

"Aye, Captain. It seems we're due for a conversation. Heading to convoy waypoint two."

Your vessel makes dozens of warp jumps as it winds it's way through the maze of warp shoals, barren or dead systems your only haven from the warp storm's lingering flare ups. Supplies go more quickly during these legs as your ship is forced to cross portions of the hazardous warp region in realspace, the gravity wells of stars helping to speed your progress through otherwise impassable walls of warp shoal. Erin's exhaustion grows once more with each jump, but finally your ship arrives at the edge of a black hole's deadly grasp. A beacon slowly spiraling into the hungry maw of the star long passed greets you.

"Emperor guide the souls that have lost their way and keep those that have surrendered their flesh."

Once again your Chief Navigator is pulled from her throne and taken to the medicae by her serfs and Orsola as the rest of your crew begins to scour the ship for damage or needed repairs.
>>
>>27290308

Elise and Alica come to you with a dataslate with your supply levels. "Captain, we believe that our passage has taken longer than anticipated. We've consumed slightly over three months of supplies, though we should not have consumed that much at this point." You raise an eyebrow at your sister, causing Elise to impose. "We've consumed over half of our supplies when we should have consumed closer to a third. We've only two and a half months of supplies aboard ship."

Your head hurts as you consider what that means. "So we've taken more than a year to arrive. We should be less than a week from the Celentis system, correct?"

"Aye, Captain. We've also got the coordinates for the Mechanicus system of Feophe and the pleasure worlds of... Labado? It seems to have an odd number of habitable systems, one of them should produce some level of agri or have wildlife to be hunted for rations."

Alica gives an odd glance toward Elise before speaking. "We could also attempt to join with your fellow pirates, Percius. Would they not have supplies?"

"Once the ship is inspected, we'll jump for the Celentis system. See if we can't find the convoy and Morix there."

Elise and Alica both nod, moving off to see that your vessel is prepared for yet another trip through the warp. Days pass in a blur as you continue to assist with your sisters' combat training, pushing their battered bodies to the limit of what practice can teach them. You still wish you could teach them more, even Kihomi is able to defeat them more often than not.

A single day after entering the warp once more, your ship tears back into reality at the edge of the Celentis system.

"Shouldn't that have taken longer?" The question slips from your lips before you can stop it.

"We're early by the ship's time, for sure. It would seem that our Navigator has improved." Elise carefully places a small pocket chronometer back into her hip pouch.

Your officers and sisters all look toward the Navigator's throne as it descends, the Chief Navigator carefully removing the connections that join her to the device. Noticing your stares, the woman takes a moment to cover her head and face with the hood of her robe. "What?"

"I seem to recall you encountered something strange after our arrival at Folkvangr. How are the wounds?"

Her voice is soft and relaxed, an unusual tone recently. "I am fine, Captain Aurex. The warp entity was weak and it's manifestation easily unraveled. I have no issue with you telling me such things, after all you understand the warp more than I ever will, however, I ask that in the future you simply say that it is too dangerous, rather than flat-out refusing. Assuming command of the situation for no explained reason other than 'I know about it than you' is rather lacking in respect, and I would like us to respect one another.
>>
>>27305615
I have been trying to get to know my officers when the time allows and have tried to form an understanding with them. I count on Elise for any tactical advice, Advinessa to keep the ship running, Orsola to do her best to keep the men alive etc. I rely on their different expertise to advance us in wealth and to keep us alive.

It comes to my attention that I have yet to in any meaningful way approach you yet and so I will be correcting that. You are my chief navigator and not only do you guide us through the perils of the warps, but you can see things that I can't. If there are times such as what happened recently where you think things are too dangerous to navigate safely then I need your input on the matter and if I had had that we could of most likely taken your input and deemed it too dangerous to proceed.

So with that said will my Chief Navigator who I entrust with lives of all the men and women aboard with vessel to safely guide us work with her captain to avoid such incidents?

(Or something like that: The basic point is to get her to tell us when shit is dangerous and have her trust that we will make the right choice)

Erin's fingers slowly part after you've said your peace, one hand rising so she can run a finger along her lower lip.

"I do not believe you understand the partnership we share, Captain Aurex. Miss Eberhardt, Enginseer Yulem... they're your crew and you grace them with the position of adviser. Our relationship is different, however. In the materium, I make myself as useful as possible and avoid meddling in your plans and affairs. You're the Captain of the ship, and thus it's master. Your word is law, and it is obeyed." Putting her fingers into the shape of a pistol, she places her index finger to her temple. "Those that disobey are delt with." She mimes her hand firing before returning it to the table.

"However, when we are in the immaterium of the warp... You should consider that our roles are reversed. I grant you the position of adviser as I guide this vessel to where I please. When we travel the currents and tides of the Immaterium, Captain, you are but a blind and deaf child given glimpses of what may or may not be around you."

"I've found that drinking after performing my duties is a poor choice. Perhaps another time, Captain." Your Chief Navigator bows her head slightly before departing.

Returning to your command throne, you browse the auger readings of the Celentis system as they filter in. Eight worlds orbit the system's star, the first four boiling within the inner cauldron region, their surfaces likely molten from the readings your ship detects. The fifth world seems to be habitable and has local traffic in it's orbit, including what seems to be a space station or captured asteroid. The sixth planet seems to be little more than an airless rock, while the seventh clearly possesses a thick atmosphere and respectable gravity. Finally, a lonely, frozen world orbits in the outer reaches of the system. If not for the relative proximity of the body to your current position, your augers would have great difficulty detecting a world that seems to embrace the depths of the void.

In short order, your vessel receives a hail. "Unknown vessel this is Captain Selenti Aurex. State your business."

Your ship sets course for the system's 5th planet after you introduce your alias and ensure Captain Aurex that you're simply here for a resupply. Nearing the planet after a few day's travel, Elise informs you that two contacts from the world are on a slow intercept course with your vessel. Between the two of them, they're putting out enough noise that your augers are effectively prevented from scanning the world itself.

"It would seem that Captain Aurex has no intention of allowing us to gain refined auger readings of the world or the orbital body around it, Percius."

>Maintain course, no need to risk alarming the vessels

I'm sure we spooked our sister earlier so it's more like she is being very careful so I say we maintain course until told otherwise.

If everything goes to plan we can get those rations we need and "maybe" we will get to see our sister.

Maintaining your course, your vessel is soon met by a refitted pilgrim ship and a claymore-class corvette. All three ships burn retro thrusters, resulting in an oddly positioned standoff of sorts. Elise and Advinessa stand by the augers, attempting to compensate for the claymore's jamming enough to get a clear read on the vessel's weapons. Without turning your sensors into a potentially threatening active sweep, they have little luck. As you adjust your hat to just the right angle, your throne's arm chimes to draw your attention to a vox pulse from the transport ship just beyond your prow's weapon range. Gliding your finger over an activation rune, Captain Aurex's voice greets you.

"Captain Menexel, I believe we can conduct any business you have in this system here and now. Corgus is a dangerous place."

"Alica, I believe this is falls under the duties of the ship's Seneschal."

Your sister smiles, moving beside your command throne as you give her a proper introduction. "Captain Aurex, Captain Menexel. I respect that you've a healthy amount of mistrust in a stranger, so perhaps my Seneschal can smooth over the feathers I've ruffled. Her name is Alica Aurex."

"Captain Aurex, I hope you've been well?" Alica's smile seems predatory as she keeps Selenti reeling, casually remarking that Synne is around your ship somewhere when the topic of price comes up. You'd never payed much attention to your sister before you ran away, but as she conducts what amounts to verbal warfare against your elder sister it strikes you why she likely never married. The woman would be hell to argue with. In the end, Selenti practically begs for the mercy of sealing the arranged deal over a small meal. "See you for dinner then, Captain Aurex."

"So, how badly do you think you've just taken her for, Alica?"

"I believe I've left her just enough profit from the food that she'll have to explain it as an investment in a potential ally, but not enough that her masters will be displeased. She's family, after all."

"So, you're invited to dinner?"

"You are as well, Captain Menexel."

Protheran wine or one of the bottles you haven't quite identified?

you have 11 bottles you're not sure about, value wise. The Protheran wine is unlikely to ever be replaceable.

Taking one of Captain Menexel's bottles of alcohol and donning one of your better sets of clothing, you meet your sisters at the shuttle bay. Stepping onto one of the Arvus Lighters, Alica turns to you. "Is that really what you're wearing?"

"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?"

With a frustrated sigh, your sister snatches your hat from your head and assaults your hair with a brush that seems to come from nowhere. "Synne, see what you can do about his collar and cuffs." Unable to escape the melee of your sisters, you give in to their onslaught despite noticing a few amused glances from your pilot. "There."

You exit the lighter only a bit worse for wear, Synne and Alica content with the small victories they achieved over your look. "We need to find you a wife before you start looking like a gua- Selenti!" Synne practically squeals as she spots your elder sister awaiting your party, the youngest sister rushing over excitedly to give your fellow Captain a hug. She is stopped dead in her tracks as Selenti barks at her. "Synne! Have you forgotten how to act like a noble already?" Sweet Synne looks crestfallen, her eyes staring at the deck before her as she stutters an apology. Selenti grins as she wraps her arms around Synne.

You and Alica approach more respectfully, though Alica too gets a hug from your third sister. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Captain Menexel. You'll have to tell me how my sisters ended up as part of your crew and why you believed it wise to bring them to sector Corgus." Selenti's eyes have studied you carefully since you stepped off the lighter, and their gaze only sharpens as she speaks to you. "Dorn, was it? A good name for a man that brings alcohol with him."

It is a short trip to a modest officer's mess, a simple meal laid out by a very buxom beauty. Synne clearly salivates over the small grox steak and greens laid out before her, a stern look from Alica keeping her manners in check. Selenti smiles as the bottle you brought is poured. "Emperor, we thank you for this meal and for bringing our family together once more."

"Do we have to act so proper? We haven't had fresh food like this in ages!"

Both of your older sisters raise a hand to their faces, muttering. The buxom woman filling your glass chuckles. "Go ahead, sweety. Captain won't admit she hasn't eaten this well in years."

Alica and Synne ernestly drive the conversation more toward family chitchat, though Selenti does manage to drive the chat toward some of 'your' exploits. It seems your sister joined the Celentis Dynasty as a transport captain, laughing at the fact that "Selenti would be flying around the Celentis system". The job doesn't pay much at the moment, but she is forwarding most of her earnings toward buying this transport in her own name. She's even ranked decently within the Dynasty, having proven herself a capable overseer. You engage in a bit of unimportant chitchat when required, but for the most part you decide to simply enjoy the little family reunion before you.

Eventually the time comes to depart, Selenti sliding an agreement across the table toward you. "Our little trade agreement, Captain Menexel. If you'd sign on the line."

After a quick browse and with a flourish, you sign your alias' mark upon the paper without hesitation and return the paper to your elder sister. "Half of your payment is upon my lighter, other half after delivery from the station."

"No, I'll have my cargo shuttles deliver the goods here."

"Don't trust me, Captain Aurex?" Standing, you offer a hand to Selenti.

"I suggest you not ask questions you won't like the answer to, Captain M-" "Aurex," you interject.

You flinch as Selenti's shoulder moves, expecting yet another fist from one of your sisters. "Master at Arms, Captain Menexel and my sisters will be departing now." Her eyes are cold as she gets very close to your face. "You're an idiot, Percius. Throwing your name around after what you did in Deus. If you ever return to this system, I'll give the order to destroy your vessel personally. Now get off my ship and leave before I change my mind."

Synne and Alica are already ahead of you as Selenti grips your shoulder and gives you a shove toward a pair of armsmen. "Consider yourself lucky, Captain Menexel. I'd kill you if my sisters didn't depend upon your continued existance." You notice her eyes turn toward the buxom woman just before the bulkhead door seals behind you.

A man with a series of scars along the left side of his face politely nods his head toward you. "If you'd follow me back to the shuttle bay, Captain Menexel, Ladies Aurex."
