<I've got a plan! Everyone, grab on to something!>

Your allies dive for the edge of the loading platform closest to the airship's gangway. Ila keeps Abigail close. Auriel wraps an arm around the edge of the railing.

You release your hold keeping the walkway steady. Immediately, it lists at a sharp 45 degree angle. Rubble and long-dead skeletons slide down the steel, the topple over the edge. Anything that falls is immediately shredded by the winds below.

"What are you doing?!" Vonnegut shouts.

<Just hold on!>

You leap off the support beam and down onto the loading dock. You form your feet into claws and punch through the steel below you as you run, enabling you to keep your balance. You see the open entrance ahead, the magical trap lingering just inside the door.

You Blink inside, and brace yourself for the worst.

Nothing happens. The dark magic hovering around the door doesn't move. You quickly focus your senses on the space, establishing a new anchor for your teleport on the inner hallway.

You Blink back outside, then push your gateway open. You grab your allies one by one, tugging them off the railing and throwing them bodily through the gateway. A long groaning snap resounds as the steel breaks off from the rest of the walkway. You lunge inside, just making it before it falls down into the skysever.

The groan of shearing rock and straining adamantium clashes against your ears even inside the ship. The ship itself is anchored more heavily into the walkway, but with the entire section of the island coming loose, that's not going to be helpful for long.

Auriel climbs to her feet, shooting her arms out for balance as the hallway rocks below her. "I remember how these things are put together - ah, mostly! We've got to get to the bridge!"

You grab Auriel around the waist and hoist her up. <I'm faster than you. Everyone else, stay here. Which way?>

Auriel points a finger. "Straight!"

You sprint down the hall at top speed. Other halls and doorways flash by you. An opening is just ahead. You barrel through it.

You don't really have time to enjoy the view, but the inside of the Cirrus is still impressive. The central atrium you now occupy is shaped like a fluted teardrop, wide on the deck you occupy, growing thinner with each successive level above you. Balconies ring the lower section, marking multiple floors. Above those are huge, curved windows that let in the dull grey light from the overcast sky. In the middle of the atrium is a sizable garden.

<This place is huge!>

"It's one of the Great Carriers! Now fucking run over there!" she points at a door to the far left, and you cross the overgrown garden in a flash and barrel through the door.

The hallways are more tastefully done than what you remember from other airships - this is less a military ship, and more a place for people to actually live long-term. "Left!" Auriel shouts. You turn on a dime and hook a left. "Door! Stairs! Up!"

You smash through a door and churn your legs up a flight of stairs, ascending four floors before Auriel directs you into another hallway. This one looks more formal, more steel and cables - the bridge has to be close. "Straight!" The ship rocks under you. A long groan echoes down the hall as the whole craft begins to list left. "Come on, faster!"

<I'm trying!>

The tilt becomes so steep that you have to run on the corner of the hallway, half your limbs on the floor, half on a wall. "There, that door!" She points at two adamantium doors around an intersection. You jump, and half run, half fall through them.

The command center of the airship is vast. Screens, keyboards, tables, chairs - too much to take in so quickly. Huge front view ports give you a view of the swirling storm, and the walkway. A huge boulder tumbles down from the cliff and slams into the hull, just missing smashing open one of the windows.
>>
>>27410084
god damn you're good at that
>>
"Over there!" Auriel shouts. She jabs her finger wildly at a central chair set before a massive, complex looking console. You plant her down, and she grips the armrests tight, holding herself in place. "Now open that gate and get Flint in here!"

You forge a new portal, closing the old one as you do so. You get a quick glance of your allies tucked into the tilting corner of a hallway, held in place by sheets of ice. <Flint, we need you!>

"Well, I can't exactly move!" the knight shouts back.

You reach in through the portal and grab him bodily. You plant him on the ground next to Auriel. <Where do you need him?>

"Hand, here!" Auriel flips open a wide piece of plastic with a flat black panel under it. You grab Flint's hand and shove his palm on it.

The airship's consoles come alive. Lights blink everywhere. A building vibration of power hums under the floors, around the windows, and through the hull. "We're online!" Auriel shouts. She consults the panels as they flash before her, blinking with numbers, lights, and figures. "Fuck! One of the dynamos is down!"

<What? One of them?!>

"This thing has a double engine, but one of the dynamos didn't make it this long! You've got to get to the engine room - we need our shields at 100%, or we're fucked! Bring Flint!"

The rest of your allies are busy trying to climb through your portal. The ship rocks again, trembling below you. Streamers of visible grey wind are attacking falling chunks of the island. It's only a matter of minutes, maybe less, before they set on the airship.

<What am I supposed to do once I'm there? We don't have another dynamo!>

"You're fucking Erebus!" she shouts. "Figure it out!"

What do you do?

Kinda unrelated to our current situation, but can we activate Berserk / Darkness Within and use the Hammer at the same time?

Well. That's interesting. Might be a good alternative if our Haven encampment gets compromised.

><What am I supposed to do once I'm there? We don't have another dynamo!>
We've done this before, and we're better now than we were then (even if we ARE without our strictly Erebus bits now.)

Way to spill the beans to Vonnegut, Auriel.

Fucking this:
>>27410179
We know a hell of a lot more now about how dynamos work than we did when we first did this. Time to apply that knowledge.
>>
>>27410225
We made a shadow-earth mixed core with it the last time we used it.
>>
>>27410225
The construct has it's own power core. What he's saying is to tear it out and Artifact it to make it a dynamo.

I have doubts if that would work but it's an interesting idea.

>>27410179
>>27410212
These.
>>
Didn't we turn ourselves into a dynamo once by spinning around really fast?
>>
What happens if an Artifact gets completely fucking destroyed?

Does it free back up a slot out of the 3 maximum, or is that spot gone forever and we're down to 2 max?
>>
>>27410292
That's how we Schattenkrieg. I say we combine the spinning with our adamantize spell to try and turn ourselves into more of a core.
>>
guys. we get three total artifacts. lets not waste it on something like a fucking powercore. this ship probably isnt even getting off of xile intact. just do it ourselves, jesus.
>>
>>27410345
They want to use it on the ship. It's only one guy or so for the power core
>>
>>27410345
This. Spin the ship ourself. Artifacting it: Voting against.
>>
If we're going to try Artifacting (if and/or when our stopgap measures fail), it's probably preferable to do so to the ship itself rather than a Dynamo, so long as "the ship" still counts as a single object. Maybe a little ambitious, but it should presumably still work.

A legendary Dynamo would likely only be capable of empowering the ship's existing facilities to an extreme extent, while making the ship itself an artifact would be more likely to imbue it with more interesting secondary abilities.

It's interesting to note that once we reassembled The Moonsong, it still retained the awareness/"artifacthood" it had before it broke. If our ability to create an artifact is similar to this, even if the ship DOES break down, there would likely be some sort of impetus driving its shrapnel back together, which would hasten any potential repairs we might have to undertake.
>>
<Alright, where's the engine room?>

"There's two, but the one you want is straight below us!" the ship tilts even further. Everyone grabs hold of whatever they can - chairs, consoles, desks. The entire ship falls a good few inches. Whatever's keeping it anchored into the island is breaking. "Uh...that way!" she points nearly sideways.

<Come on, Flint!> You grab him without waiting for his answer and sprint back to the doors, clawing and climbing your way forward, using everything in sight as foot and handholds. You break a screen in your hurry, but that's how it goes.

You find another set of stairs, a bit smaller than the grand ones you used earlier, but you take the lack of aesthetics as a good thing. Square, hard signs tell you the deck you're on as you practically roll your way back and forward to get down the stairs as quickly as possible. Eventually, you see a sign that means the think you think you're looking for: Dynamo Reactor Core

You fly into the room. The machinery within makes the engine rooms you've seen so far look like children's toys. It's huge. Cables and monitors and banks of switches and panels and buttons coat every surface. There are no moving parts - or at least, the parts that should be moving, aren't.

In the center of the room is the reactor. Most of it is shielded by large plates of metal. You duck inside that outer core. Two metal protrusions stick toward a pedestal. On the pedestal rests...a dynamo shell. You recognize it from your earlier battle with the mask-creature.

"Ok," Flint says. He grabs part of the engine as the room shakes again. "Ok. Dynamo, but no energy. Uh...uh...what do we do?!"

You stare at the dynamo core.

What do you do?

>toss the core to the side for now; power the ship with your own body
>try to ignite some sort of energy inside the core
>use one of your shards in some fashion
>some other strategy
>>
>>27410393
Yeah. I'd rather artifact the ship but at the least we should try dynamoing before spending the exp.
>>
>>27410393
The Moonsong was an actual shard of Erebus, not an Artifact. It may have had the Artifact ability under its dominion, but it was not one.
>>
>>27410393

>>try to ignite some sort of energy inside the core
Having BEEN a dynamo, we probably have a bit of a sense what we're going to have to get the inner workings of the dynamo to do.

Now it's just a matter of making it happen.
>>
>>27410419
Infuse our essence full stop and make a shadow dynamo. Its time.

BRING OUT THE METAL BRETHEREN.
>>
>>27410419
>try to ignite some sort of energy inside the core
>use one of your shards in some fashion
Mix our Hammer shard in there too. We're going to need Moonsong's power in some capacity for shielding.
>>
>>27410419
>try to ignite some sort of energy inside the core
Now Shadow can prove to the world that he is, at his core, a being of SCIENCE!
>>
>>27410419

Ardor seems like the perfect thing to help us power something meant to provide energy.

I've mentioned this once before in previous threads, but now that I think about it, it could be a reasonable name for the Hammer as well.

>Nemesis has been described as the daughter of Oceanus or Zeus, but according to Hesiod she was a child of Erebus and Nyx.

>The word Nemesis originally meant the distributor of fortune, neither good nor bad, simply in due proportion to each according to what was deserved; then, nemesis came to suggest the resentment caused by any disturbance of this right proportion, the sense of justice which could not allow it to pass unpunished.

>The name Nemesis is related to the Greek word νέμειν, meaning "to give what is due".

>>27410577
We also managed to spin the energy TOO fast while augmenting the Noiralev, which led to the dynamo fracturing, so there's obviously a speed at which we reach optimal energy generation and at which we should stop pushing energy into it.
>>
>>27410646
so how juch mana do we have again? we might wanna burn before we start this
>>
>>27410577
We saw lines leading outward on the diagram and when we latched onto the shadow dynamo of the Noraleiv there were veins of mana that led out of it as well. We need to have the energy to go along those lines to power the ship.

It's a sad tale. But, perhaps, their time alone will allow him to see the love and devotion that has grown up beneath him, unnoticed.
Perhaps, in romantic fashion, he will take her out - telling her not of where they go - to the top of a hill, secluded in the forest, where he will reveal to her that yes - he can love again. They make tender love under the moonlight.
Or perhaps it will start as an accident. A stumble in a sparring session, one landing atop the other. A moment of weakness in them both, they share a kiss. It explodes in pent-up passion.

<...alright. I've got to make a dynamo.>

"But...how?!" Flint shouts.

<I'm an elemental lord,> you say. <This is within my power.> You glance at the core. Wires leading to and away from the shell grab your attention. You try to recall the diagram. In on the left, out on the right. In on the left. <Flint, grab the wires on the right of each bundle!> Your gaze follows them to shaped nodes on the outer shell of the core - nodes that those wires would fit in perfectly. <Put them in those slots, there, and there!>

Flint grabs the right side of each bundle, and hooks them in. You take the left side...and you push your mana into the dynamo. It filters into the core, water along a channel. Black ooze - pure Shadow mana - fills the inside. Unlike other mana you've seen, it doesn't dissipate, or discharge. The core holds it steady.

Now...a soul. The structure of a soul. It should be like that...as if everyone has a little dynamo inside of them. Clockwise first - that was on the diagram. You spin the mana, pushing on it with your will. And just like that, it begins to turn - slowly at first, as if you're moving pudding with your fingers, and then faster, faster, until it's spinning of its own accord, and it begins to take off, faster, faster!

Lights flare on the inside of the core - dark purple. Readouts spit numbers and graphs at you too fast for you to follow. Flint braces himself against the metal as the ship continues to tilt. You're past 45 degrees. "Oh Light. Oh Light. Shit. Shit!"

<Keep it together, Flint!> He just nods at you.

What next? The engine is still silent. Layers - you need layers! But how can you get mana inside the mana that's already spinning?

The wires - they can feed the mana in. You grasp the wires and push harder. They seem to sink into the shell itself. The tips penetrate the outside of the glowing sphere, and then through the rotating shell. As you do so, steel levers snap down from the engine housing, arranging themselves around the dynamo in a complex and repetitive fashion. You've got to bend out of the way as they clatter into place around you. Flint ducks around the outside edge of the engine, bracing himself.

You push mana into the dynamo, and begin to spin it.

ruuoooobuuuuuuuuuUURRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAEEEHHHHHHH

-WA-BOOOM-

The sound of gathering energy is punctuated by an explosion of shadow. Crackling purple light ripples out of the core, and passes into the metal. It flares up and into the prongs leading from the engine and to the surrounding systems. You push your mana again, and the explosion shudders again. The energy travels farther, but dies once more.

You put everything you've got into it, and a third and final explosion blasts into the engine. Lights and sparking energy zips up and through the wires, and then the engine shudders, grates, and churns forward. Pistons mash up and down. Panels glow with dark energy. The outer core of the engine begins to rotate counterclockwise, and the countering motion seems to create a sort of friction from the dynamo, drawing forward more energy into the engine.

The airship shudders. And then it begins to fall. Flint lifts off the ground, then hits the steel a moment later. "We're falling!!"

<I noticed!>

"SHADOW!" Auriel's voice comes screaming in over the loudspeakers. "I'VE GOT POWER, BUT I NEED A MAJOR BOOST, NOW! THE SKYSEVER IS ABOUT TO RIP THROUGH THE WINDOWS UP HERE!!"

Flint is rolling across the room, dazed. His arm catches on a pipe, and he clings to it for dear life.

What do you do?

Isn't this almost exactly what happened?

Chapter 49:
>Their feet twist and turn on the grass and dirt. The distance between them closes, and the sword clashes increase in tempo. Suddenly, as quickly as it started, it's over - but not in the way you expected. Obis catches one of Freja's legs with his own, and drags his foot back, taking her off balance. He smacks her swords away, then falls on top of her, his own blade at her throat and his legs straddling her chest.

>They sit there for a moment, breathing. Freja smiles at him. "You still know how to trip me up."

>"...you're a lot better. That...took some effort."

>He doesn't immediately move. Freja raises an eyebrow. "Seems like you're getting comfortable up there. I guess I don't mind too much, if it's you."

>Obis scrambles off of her as if prodded by a hot iron. Freja hides a smile.

>>27411193
Get on that dynamo and start channeling Ardor.

I also like the idea of artifacting the ship, and it would likely be a more immediate effect, seeing as how the WINDOWS are almost about to give out. More efficient to just make the ship itself impermeable rather than supercharging the dynamo and hoping the shields come up in time.

Cost 10 XP? Yeah. But Air combat is going to be a thing, and this will hopefully pay for itself there.

The ship needs a boost. But Isolation, your shard of choice for defensive maneuvers, is beyond your reach. Ardor doesn't seem appropriate, and Hammer is, as it said, a weapon. Maybe one that can be used for other things, now, but you've hardly had time to explore that. And Humanity...if you used that, it might very well overcharge and destroy the dynamo, just like before.

But what if you changed the airship itself? You made the shards. You made the Moonsong. You can do this.

You stand clear of the churning engine, kneel, and place your hand on the floor.

"Shadow, what are you doing?!" Flint calls.

<...not quite sure, yet.>

Your power floods into the hull of the ship.

------------
------------

With a rumbling creak, and a snap, the airship breaks free of its mooring. About a sixth of Xile proper comes loose as it does, taking down the entire cliff face, the docks, and half the city. The Cirrus plummets into the abyss, followed closely by tons upon tons of steel, concrete, and earth.

The wind howls, and the rock goes first, chewed into dust. Then the steel, shredded like aluminum. And then even the adamantium, bitten and chewed and bent and torn.

Darkness and wind flares on the outside of the ship, twisting together in a great protective barrier, but the screaming voices of the skysever will not be denied. They swarm the huge craft, and the shields are rapidly overwhelmed, and then they fail entirely.

But the ship does not yield.

A darkness spreads from the core, an ink that coats the ship. Every surface turns black as night, seamless. Rivets and junctions melt, then meld. There are no pieces; the craft becomes one single onyx rock, as if it were poured and cast in a god's forge. And the point of wind that had somewhat clashed with the darkness is stained with shadow, and becomes a strange wind, a new wind, never seen in the world before.

"HANG ON!"

Auriel's voice grates at your ears. It wakes you up out of a sort of reverie. For a moment, it was as if you were distant, watching events unfold from a mile away. You were the ship, for a time. And it became as you willed - invincible.

"MOMENTUM'S TOO MUCH! IF I CLIMB, WE GET SMASHED BY THE RUBBLE. WE'RE PUNCHING STRAIGHT THROUGH THE BARRIER!"

The ship buckles as it makes contact with the skysever's barrier, then slams to a halt. Flint goes flying across the room!

>>
>>27411577
We have an idea of what an Artifact does (the Moonsong). We can infer from that that Hammer, as a shard, has similar properties - but until it's used, we can't be certain. It's a safer bet that the Artifacts created have those properties, in my opinion.
I didn't like Ardor as a choice. Hunger was all about consuming, and we needed to give power. But, perhaps, it could be about "consuming" the incoming Sky-Sever attacks.
Humanity would just be raw, unrefined power I think. Hopefully enough to brute force our way through.
>>
>>27411592

No, that's wrong. Moonsong was not an Artifact, it was a Shard of Erebus.

If we wanted to use Moonsong powers, you should voted to use Hammer to power up our dynamo.

>The wind rails against the ship. A million voices cry out for blood and vengeance.

>The ship simply holds, an immovable object.

>But momentum, and a thousand tons of shredded material, are another problem.

Also fits more with what we know shadow magic to be capable of, as well. It's probably tougher on the outside as well, but I feel like not tough enough to survive getting an island dropped on us.

>not using TSFH

I've got a theme going here, man.

------------
>EXP: 37
------------

Flint falls, and in an instant, you're there to catch him.

You neatly ravel him into your arms and hold him steady as the ship rights itself. Everything shakes. The floor vibrates under you.

You set him on the ground. <That could have been bad.>

"Heh, yeah. What a way to go after all that shit, right?" The ship rocks again, and he falls on his rear. "Ow. Let's get back to the bridge!"

You grab Flint and take off back up the stairs as fast as you can sprint. With the ship right-side up, it's a lot easier to navigate. You're back in the bridge in just a few moments.

Auriel has a death grip on the controls, duel joysticks that have emerged from the console. Ila seems assigned to some task at a panel. Vonnegut is braced in a chair. You grab Abigail off where she's clinging to the railing and hold her. You're not taking chances.

"Oh...Shadow?"

<...I'm not letting you go again.>

Abigail blushes, then buries her face in your chest. Auriel glances back over her shoulder. "Yeah, that's nice and all, loverboy. Now what the hell did you do?"

<I figured it out.>

Auriel turns back and laughs. "Yeah, you sure fucking did. This thing can fly! Woo-hooo!" She leans forward and pushes both joysticks down, gunning the ship forward.

Vonnegut peaks his head over the edge of his chair. He stares at you.

Ila notices the look. "What is it?" she asks.

"...nothing."

"Perhaps you're a little concerned," Ila says. Usually, your friend is reticent, shy, even. But now she has a giant, smug grin painted all over her face.

"Concerned? I'm not concerned. Why would I be concerned?!" Vonnegut yelps and grabs at his chair as the airship shudders in the high wind of the barrier.

"What? You didn't hear?" Ila's grin somehow grows wider. "You didn't see?"

"I-I don't know what you're talking about!" Vonnegut stutters. "I didn't hear anything!"

All that said, we probably need to get down to business with Vonnegut AFTER lightening the mood. This isn't exactly the kind of thing we want getting out, and I'd imagine he knows that. We just need to make sure we're on the same page.

Maybe jokingly complement him on his recent development of a good sense of taste in business partners. It'll let him know we don't immediately plan on offing him just because he learned something he shouldn't, and it'll also lubricate his ego a bit.

It's probably a good idea for us to make a return trip to Jacob's Field and check up on where we found Adavan in the first place.

If he DID get offed, his phylactery is likely to have been in the place he was sealed off in the first place, and it's not likely that he would've relocated it from the place near where Hecate was sealed.

It's amusing that it might actually be a WORSE scenario for us if he actually survived rather than getting pulped by the tornado, since it would mean he'd still be up on Xile.

Ila's grin proves infectious, because now you're smiling too. <Didn't hear anything about what?> you ask.

"I don't know!" Vonnegut blurts.

<Oh,> you say. You grin wider. <Well, ok then.> You let him fumble back into his seat. He keeps glancing your way nervously, composure forgotten. <Hey, we're still going to see the Black Lady later, right?>

He doesn't answer. He just snaps his head forward and stares out a window. It's not an interesting view - just grey, whirling clouds.

<Thanks for the shard of the Moonsong, by the way. Couldn't have done it without you.>

He doesn't answer. Ila snickers, then turns back to her console.

"What about the Black Lady?" Abigail whispers.

<Just something I told him to get him on our side,> you say. <But to be honest, I think it would do Haven good if we could make more friends than enemies. And the angels won't exactly hold hands with us soon...>

Abigail nods. "Guess it's worth a try. I don't know much about her. A lot of people seem terrified of her, though."

<Mmm.>

"So, Shadow," Auriel calls. "What are we naming the ship?" She gestures up at the black, transfigured steel, and then at her console. "I've never seen figures like these. Whatever you did to the engine is something else. Might as well give it a shot."

<Hmm. Well, Cirrus is fine.>

"No, come on."

<...uh...Ship?>

Auriel's eyebrow scrapes the ceiling. "Are you serious right now?"

<Uh...uh...umm...>

<I am not bad with names!> Everyone just sort of covers their mouths and looks away. <Abigail. Tell them I'm not - >

"You kinda are," Abigail says. She giggles.

"Well," Auriel says, adopting a motherly, condescending tone, "you just think on it, and let me know later."

"I'll help you if you want," Abigail whispers.

<I can think of one on my own!>

"When you need help, just let me know," she says.

<I'll do it myself!>

She smiles and grips you harder. "I didn't realize you were so easy to rile up. I'm gonna have to mess with you more."

<Well...that's...> You sigh. It's not really that much to be upset about if it gets you hugs.

-----
-----

Moments pass. The grey barrier goes on. It did take you a while to get through before...stands to reason that exiting would take as long. At least the airship has no trouble with it.

"Shadow," Flint says. His face has lost the brief shine of amusement.

<...what is it?>

"...Adavan," Flint says. "Do you know where his phylactery is?"

<...I can guess,> you say.

"The keep back at Jacob's Field?"

<Probably.>

"Kan-Abar was occupying that area," Flint says. "It's going to be a literal slice of hell. If Adavan revives there, and they sense it..."

<...that isn't good.>

Auriel taps the console. "Theoretically, we could fly straight there. But...if he's still under cover, we'll blow it. If he was discovered, it's too late anyway, and we shouldn't risk it."

<Auriel. If there's a chance he needs our help - >

>con't
>>

so its pretty much obvious flints parasite is channeling his energy to one of his brothers by now right? probably due to some sort of fucked up parental shit related to his heritage.
>>
"Look, if that's where he revived," Auriel says, "and, considering what we know, that's the only logical place - one of two things happened. Either he's sitting there, undetected, waiting for a chance to slip away...or the demons got to him first. And he's a clever bastard, but if a demon lord found him...he's dead. And everything he knows, they know. So if that was going to happen, he'd probably end take his own life. I would."

<We can't just assume he's dead.>

"No," Auriel says. "I hope he's still kicking, too. Even if he was..." She shakes her head. "What happened back then doesn't matter anymore. The point is, if he's alive, and we fly there, we telegraph his location to anything that can so much as make a candle flicker with magic."

<Shadow,> a voice says. It takes you a moment to realize it's Abigail speaking - telepathically. Privately. <...I've been thinking. About something that was there...do you remember something I said, a long time ago? About the nice lady?>

<...I do.>

<Did Adavan mention anything to you about that? I feel like there's some kind of connection there.>

You think on Auriel's words, and Abigail's. If Hecate is under Adavan's prison, and you telegraphed its location to the demons...you can't imagine the consequences.

But if you don't, who knows what could happen to your friend? But then...his dedication to his goddess was never even a question. He might already be dead. Or, he could be quietly waiting, sitting under the radar.

What is your strategy going forward?

Why don't we just put the manapool on Ship? It would come in handy later for whenever we need to become the weapons system and shit magic all over the battlefield.

Sooo.

Back to Haven,
Honk down our order pool,
Teleport to the assumed area of the keep,
Take Addy, teleport back, discuss our stupidity, bro it up.
>>
>>27412397
I think SM already said that is impossible.
>>
>>27412366
I wouldn't be surprised, at least in cases like this where it would be the best, most effective choice by a mile.

Perhaps we should also unload our giant treasurecube when we get to Haven so we can make sure we have room to secret away more things if we come across anything else that we'd want to toss into our Pocket.
>>
>>27412397

Sorry, no can do. Requires the stability of a fixed point if it's to be used for what you're talking about.
>>
Honestly I don't want to put XP towards a pool when its just a hop and a skip away from the Gakth pool and we might be facing more demon lords.
>>
>>27412384
Can we Teleport other people along mana pools or will we need to throw down an anchor for that?
>>
>>27412405
+1 to treasure cube dispersal.

You know, I think the shadow mages- hell, ALL of the mages in Haven are going be pretty damn impressed when we come back to them with an airship + treasure.

Forgoing what we've lost in the process.

You can teleport as many people as you can touch along mana pools.

Teleport gateways can be open indefinitely, but are only about five by five meters. Obviously, they always go back to where your anchor is.

Ok, THAT wasn't what I was expecting. We can trust ourselves not to appear our passengers right into the mana pool we're teleporting to, right? Because that'd be a bit of a disaster.

Even if it is, considering that we are able to survive contact with a mana pool and they are not, and we are provided with effectively infinite mana while in one, I'm not sure they're going to be an issue.

For edgyquest, I suggest an offscreen meta stat of unknown name which would track how much players are taking the game too seriously. The elves and the empire are technically involved their own unsettled conflict, but even they pull aside to point their swords at the vampires. I'd heard rumors he was slain by Queen Kalladar, though at great personal cost..."

We can pretty safely assume that this information is fairly accurate, even if the Duke is a little shifty, because it matches up independently with things we didn't volunteer to him before he confirmed them to us.

Interesting that he said it was a pet of the Black Lady, when we thought that the dragon recognized us in some capacity. Which, if that was the case, probably means it was around BEFORE the Black Lady.

You are very welcome. I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it!

>>27412599

Xile. Let's see...

The three-way battle on top of the airship was somewhat planned, but you getting thrown into the barrier was not planned.

It all went downhill from there.

In the first place, you really weren't supposed to go to Xile as the next step, which required some rapid three-card-monty in the background. Someone compared it to the option dungeon in a JRPG - not a bad comparison. Xile was more inevitable than that, but I figured you would deal with other things first, level up a little.

Then there was the shadow creature you fought. I was like, "here's the special dynamo shell, it's so special, look, there's a diary, look, there are skeletons, look, shards of the sword inside it, look, the monsters were clearly made from the shards". The conclusion I wanted you to make was to immediately smash the dynamo shell and take the shards, thinking that would destabilize the spell - which it would. But everyone was greedy, and tried to have their cake and eat it to. If it wasn't for the crit save you made, the creature would have driven you to within an inch of your life and probably have started killing off party members. That was a true miracle roll.

And then there was the situation with Lucifer. Basically, his plan was to lie in wait until you did something stupid, and then swoop in and take advantage. I was confident I had communicated this to you with how he'd acted so far - at least enough for you to suspect that strategy.

Then, I made it very demonstrable that the 'wind' was overpowering Lucifer, and his angels. I'd hoped your conclusion would be to copy him, and ride things out - but then you tried to guarantee his failure, and you had that crit fail.

I seriously considered killing Abigail, but decided to have mercy.

I think we've all learned some lessons here.
>>
>>27412440
>Teleport gateways can be open indefinitely, but are only about five by five meters.
Can we make portals smaller than 5x5?

Because then we could anchor near a mana pool, make a tiny portal, and ink a tendril through it into the mana pool during battle for infinite mana in combat.
>>
>>27412708
Portals are easily destabilized.

We never actually watched the video diary because we thought any noise would immediately draw death upon us. And I didn't want to break the shells because I thought it was too obvious; that it was a trap and breaking it would make it worse by unleashing more power for the creature to go on a massive rampage or explode in a massive erasure virus wave instead of just fizzling.

The issue with tapping things with a ten-foot pole is that sometimes the orb inside the statue's mouth disintegrates your pole.

I think the reasoning is not so much that we need to stop poking things with a pole, but rather that we need to stop poking things with a pole that we would be upset with losing.

>But did you have any information to back that up, either?
The Shards had to have been sending power to the creature. The Dynamo shells have been presented as restraining power.

All evidence pointed to a release like smashing a fire hydrant, but instead it was a popped water balloon.

>In that situation I'd have recommended you retreat to a safe location and then listen to it before dealing with the dangerous magical object. An unfortunate side effect of people wanting to pick up the pace and just get the fuck off Xile. It's a common happening in quests where the pacing starts to sour.If the in quest time drags on too much longer than real time, it start to become worthless in the eyes of players.

It might not be a good thing, but it's a thing that tends to happen in quests.
>>

That's a fair point about dynamo shells. That's why I had the diary there.

Joey Quest
>>
>>27412947

ehhh

I'd shelve it all and reuse it later, probably taking elements and mixing them in with my other stuff.

There's actually a lot in the setting I think we'll never get to. When you jumped onto the next-scale stage by confronting Sandalphon back in the mines, you basically turned to face the world's fundamental problems...it sidelined a few adventures I had planned. So, I can see characters exploring interesting places and the little nooks and crannies that aren't really relevant to our storyline anymore.

There's actually stuff in Shadow Quest that comes from my other settings. The idea of spells arising from sigils, for example, comes from the book I'm almost finished editing. The idea of the nether, and of souls, comes from another book. Sort of - that one got really mutated in the translation.

Sigils being used for spells isn't an original idea, per se, but I do have my own particular take on it.

>That's why I had the diary there.
An'd I'm going to say it again. The diary was worthless. People felt that we were in a race against Lucifer because most of them just didn't get that he was playing the waiting game. They thought the staff was the real thing and the consequences of allowing that to go to the angels was weighed as being much worse than anything that would happen here. If he'd gotten the real staff, it would have been an almost guaranteed death for multiple party members and the re-enslavement or eradication of Haven.

That alone would have been enough to pretty much assure the diary wasn't getting read, but combine that with the wonkiness that happens to player value systems when you take place they hate + weird pacing and scheduling, and whatever little chance there was went right out the window.

It doesn't even matter anymore because it happened and everyone feels stupid about it and you're going to lord it over them to keep them from making similar mistakes, but for all you talk about your skill with herding cats, this shouldn't have been a surprise to you. I want to accuse you of letting your knowledge of Lucifer's plan and the staff being a fake cloud your interpretation of the situation too greatly, but this whole thing is already starting to sound hostile without that.
