Sort of? We're slowly working our way away from the canon plot. But even then the changes we've made have been references to the other games in the Persona series, so it would help. It's not required, though. For now just know that we've greatly accelerated the recruitment of party members (though Persona acquisition is going with the canon timeline so far), because two characters that would not have been trapped in dungeons in the game have been in this, and we need to get them out as soon as possible. Also, I think that accepting your Shadow without it being subdued first would be a really bad idea. It's kind of implied in a few scenes that the "face your dark secrets" thing is a ruse to get the target off their guard. Ameno-Sagiri's speech more or less states outright that he's manipulating the party's Shadows to distract them. Hell, Rise even says that she senses something controlling Shadow Teddie when he shows up. I wouldn't want to see what happens if you integrate that into yourself without beating Ameno-Sagiri's influence out of them first.

I guess this means we won't run into Shadow Yukiko, then. And that Yu isn't the only one to have gained a Persona without having to face their Shadow. Not that such a thing is unprecedented in the franchise, none of the characters in the other games had to, but it was neat to be the special one of our group. Oh well. At least we have the Wild Card to mark us as the protagonist. Probably, anyway. And at least it means that if Nametame does throw her into the TV there is going to be a drastically different response.

Anyway, let's congratulate Yukiko on awakening her Persona and then get down to kicking some doppelganger ass. We beat not-Yosuke, and that was single-handed without magic. You're going down, not-Chie.

Well, there are non-demon spirits out there. There are plenty of other worlds out there in the Vortex filled with strange and horrible things seeking to claw into our realm. That's what Nyx from P3 is, and the bosses corresponding to each Reason in SMT: Nocturne are implied to be that sort of creature. Digital Devil Saga is arguably about them, too, with the Brahman and the weird alien spirits you meet in the sun. So there are other things out there. But Fake-Chie is probably a Shadow. Nyarlathotep can make Shadows manually, and with the JOKER running around it's plausible to think other Nyarlathotep shenanigans are going to show up. So that's what I'd put the Fakes as. Shadows, just not the local flavor.
