I just found out about this setting and I really love it. Since it's Saturday, is it okay if I make the new thread?

>CATastrophe is a /tg/ original setting that takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth that has been completely flooded. Humanity has become extinct and has been replaced by Kemonomimi, specifically cat, dog, and rabbit-girls/boys. They live in ancient human ruins and island communities. It is a laid-back setting based around having fun and exploring the vast underwater ruins for treasure.

Some quick starter questions:

>Money
What do they use for currency?

>Government
Is there any kind of government or rulership?

>Aging
Do the kemonomimi age? And if they all appear youthful throughout their entire life, do they still eventually die of natural causes / old age?

>Reproduction
It seems like the populations need to be low as part of the setting. And since it seems difficult to die, then the other alternative is having a very low birth rate. But why?
>>
This would be really awesome if they were humans.
>>
>>27577117
Barter is the main way for getting what you want, there has been in the past some discussion about using "shiny" as currency but I don't know where that ended up going since that was also what they called the human tech they found

Government is strictly small time, each settlement runs and rules itself for the things they need but for the most part it isn't there, even the governments that do exist are rather hands off and really only organize the big things

Aging happens, they might not show it as much but kemomi grow, age and die in time.

Populations are for the most part small, you have some large settlements that rely on trade and outlier settlements to feed their people but they are generally the exception to the rule
>>
>>27577117
>Money
Bartering, seashells, shiny bits that are otherwise useless
>Government
Individual settlements probably have their own rules and laws but I doubt their authority extends very far.
>Aging
Maybe? The grumpy foxboy running the burger stand looks a bit older. Or maybe hes just that grumpy.
>Reproduction
That's actually a decent reason for gender disparity rather than the "all catgirls all the time just cause" concept. Low population seems to be rather tied to this setting and monogamous but ucommon males allow that

>What do they use for currency?
Now stick with me here because this is going to sound insane.

Algae coins.

Okay, so it's basically bartering, but with a twist. Because a very common commodity is algae, which is grown in aquiculture farms. The algae is powderized and formed into small coin-like tablets for easy consumption. There are different types with different uses. One might act like chewing gum, one might be for smoking, one for make a tea-like beverage, etc. Each of the different types has a different value, so they essentially are used like coins, since everyone knows their value. Does that make some kind of sense?

A lot of this stuff is left vague, as it's a light-hearted setting.

>Money
Kemo trade shinies, things they've excavated from the ocean floor or from intact human complexes, for goods and services.

>Government
Each settlement has it's own depending on how complex it is. Small ones are usually run by group consensus, where as large ones driven by earless tech and hosting hundreds or more usually have sophisticated governments.

>Aging
The writefaggotry references old kemos, so presumably.

>Reproduction
It's not really hit on since it's out of step with tone of the game. Probably a simple lack of resources and space.

Alpha codex PDF attached. Kinda shit, but it's still cool and I hear Kav almost has version 1.0 done.
>>
>>27577131
Well that sort of defeats the purpose of the setting but if you want to go make it then cool, we can always use more alternative settings

>Since it's Saturday, is it okay if I make the new thread?
I was under the impression that it was decided in the last thread to make these threads less frequently, as they keep attracting various shitstorms.

Nonetheless, glad someone made the thread, I had a dream about the setting last night.

>nekomi boy finds a shiny; turns out to be a very well reserved Kalashnikov
>nekomi girl who he kinds of has a crush on finds him messing with it, blackmails him into letting her help him restore it.
>girl has a way with machines, they manage to get it functioning. still have no idea what it really is.
>they dick around with it.
>it goes off.
>nekomi girl gets shot in the chest.
>dies while the boy sobs over her, telling her he didn't mean for it to happen.

It was very depressing.
>>
>>27577297
how does it defeat the purpose of the setting?
>>
>>27577308
Well... I guess if you want to run your CATastrophe game like a Dark Heresy supplement I can't stop you.....
>>
Does anyone have any music for CATastrophe? I remember one anon posting something from soundcloud that I loved but can't for the life of me find now. Something about endless blue, idk
>>
>>27577330
I never expressed a desire to run a game like that. I just had a dream, while asleep, that took place in the setting. The dream was sad. I woke up sad. The story ends there.

Just sharing in the relevant thread.
>>
>>27577313
The setting was inspired by the idea of kemomimis running around a flooded planet looting shiny bits and partying. If you want to do the same with humans, no one is stopping you. In fact it probably wouldn't change that much but it'd be like make the space marines be robots instead of supersoldiers, the setting is basically the same but it's just not what had in mind.
>>
>>27577308
Sorry, I missed the last few threads. I couldn't help making this, thinking about this setting honestly makes me really happy, more than any other.

In all honesty I'm not sure if it would be good for normal tabletop play, but I think it would be great if used in standalone stories or something like that.

Also sad story.
>>
>>27577387
I'd play read stories in the setting, play video game or maybe even a freeform RP, but I just don't see playing it with my usual group.
>>
>>27577381
>>27577313
I hate to interject, but I think the general consensus is that the GM gets to control several major aspects of the setting in his particular game. And I've heard it said that you can easily substitute out humans for kemomimis if you want.

To me, the major requirements for the setting are:
>Happy
>Flooded planet
>Human ruin and tech scattered all over the place

I don't think it even needs to be set on earth. In fact I think it might be good to open up the setting so it's not tied to existing human history.
>>
>>27577387
>>27577411
I always imagine this setting would be great in one of three specific things

>Literature
Writefaggotry, short stories or even full novels.

>Video game:
What if it was like 2D hack-and-slash / RPG side-scrolling, sort of like Fortune Summoners. There's a community on the surface with characters you can interact with, and there's randomized underwater ruins where you can explore and collect loot. Maybe you even run an item shop selling what you make.

>Quest thread

I'm not sure how realistic any of these are but I still like talking about the story.

That is one depressing dream. Sorry, Anon.
>>
So here's something that occurred to me; while a very happy setting, combat is a thing. Pirates exist, and there are presumably people who fight them. Since the setting is very low-lethality, I imagine most combat will be in the form of martial arts. So, how do the different kemos fight?

I can see Inumi generally generally adhering to styles like kickboxing; the direct approach. And capoeira strikes me as really fitting for Usami; the emphasis on kicks, and the doctrine of keeping vital areas out of striking range seems like it would suit them. But how would Nekomi tend to fight? Some kind of grappling style?
>>
>>27577284
>A lot of this stuff is left vague, as it's a light-hearted setting.
I get that, but I still think it's best for things to have some kind of internal logic to them, because it'll almost certainly come up eventually in a game.

>Is there any kind of government or rulership?
I picture most places would have something like happy anarchism, with people coming together as a community for major projects.

as someone who is working on setting and running a game let me answer some questions

>money
fangs, which are a natural growing crystalline structure are used if the DM likes them, otherwise its all barter, with working or cool looking bits of earless(human) tech being valuable. Tech, Fangs and cool marine things like pearls, clamshells and other things are all lumped into the common category of "Shinies"

>Government
depends on your DM. this being /tg/ a lot of the people want highly organized recovering tech groups like the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout, or Kemomi run island governments. I generally prefer to have smaller self governed settlements, with something like a peacekeeping force that is generally recognized by all (this would be run mostly by dogs, because they like hierarchy and order and such).

>Aging
Kemomi probably age, but this is up to the DM. Its kinda silly if they don't, but I imagine their lifespan is pretty long considering they are genetically engineered creatures.

>Reproduction
assumedly there was a rather low population to start with, but the Kemomi have been working at that problem for a few hundred years. Different breeds (dogs, cats, bunnies) allow for more genetic diversity, IF the DM says they can interbreed.

But seriously, don't think too much on any of this, its supposed to be a lighthearted anti-grimdark setting to have fun in.

>>27577222
After even a handful of generations the gender ratios would have evened up. Pretty much everyone has agreed a huge gender disparity is stupid.

>>
>>27577117
>Money
They use forged gold coins. They're crude, but they work. Children in areas located in shallow waters are often employed to find the ones that may have fallen into the water.

>Government
Bigger settlements have monarchies whereas smaller ones generally have chiefs. In some instances, these are democratically elected.

>Aging
They grow to be twice the natural age of humans. The oldest can be up to 200+ years old, but it's incredibly unlikely. A more relaxed lifestyle leads to less health problems and a better transition in old age. They look fairly young for most of their life.

>Reproduction
Pon farr. Sex here and there can happen though.

>Do the kemonomimi age? And if they all appear youthful throughout their entire life, do they still eventually die of natural causes / old age?
I like the idea of almost everyone looking youthful. Somehow I think it adds to the setting. Maybe something like... once they have matured to a certain point (let's say 15 years old), they continue that way for many decades, until they're like 60. Then they start to appear old and wizened and wrinkly and stuff.

I have a type of charcoal like thing made from dried and treated kelp, since in a flooded post technology society gasoline would be extremely rare. It is used as the primary type of fuel and its found commonly in the wild, but a alchemist or botanist type is needed to prepare it for use.

>>27577797
My game consists of a group of 7 on a decent sized boat. The captain is a DMPC who keeps them from fighting too much and makes sure nobody gets ripped off. The players all have diving skills, many have earless tech skills and each has at least one sort of performing skill.

The party hunts shinies on dives, and when they head to town they barter off shinies for supplies, and also earn money by performing as a band (or in the rogue-ish catboy's case, conning locals with a shells game)

ALSO I am working on the 1d4chan wiki entries with the help of Kav (the guy working on the original CATastrophe system) and ThatDamnCatfolkPilot (the guy working on the FATE supplement)

I had a thought today: what are the mechanics for fishing?

I had this idea that there'd be a bunch of fish to catch, and some of the larger ones would have items inside their bellies. You know, like how sharks swallow licence plates.

Or, alternatively since this is a light hearted setting, an NPC might be found alive in the belly of the predator that ate him. Jonah and the Whale style.

I am going to open a forum for us CATastrophe folk, no matter the system. I'm going to build and get it looking good, before revealing the location. I figure if we want a place to talk about CATastrophe and potentially have PbP for it that would be the place to do it.

One note, the forum will be SYSTEM NEUTRAL. that means anyone with any system can CATastrophe it up. Although I will give administrator privileges to the PAWS, TAILS, and the Maid system creators.

I'm not sure. But I'd imagine that fishing with line and hook is mainly used for getting food and general animal parts. The rest of the fish would probably be too big for a line and hook and would be enemies during diving. Bear in mind that I'm just making this all up.

>>27578113
Awesome! That's really great to hear, I look forward to the forum.
>>
I'll let you guys in on a few things for the TT or PbP I will eventually run:

>Currency
Currency is "Fangs", generally based on the value and current level or recyclables at the settlement.

>Tech
Tech level is very jigsaw. The fashion looks like 1940s as well as the music, but the dive gear and other gadgets made by the 3D printers is very modern. Nothing earless-tech outside of replacement parts for the 3D printers though and the power generators powering the settlement.

>Themes
Exploration, Diplomacy with discovered settlements, Salvaging, and celebrating it all over a glass of catnip-brew!

>Money
Barter in the smaller islands and settlements.
Strips of scrap metal in the bigger settlements.
I like the feeling that the smaller settlements are more laid back in the fact the they care about shiny more than the utility or scrap and salvage. Making the bigger ones look more progressive and the smaller ones a charming static.

>government
The bigger settlements would have a small local police/Militia who's main job would be to sort out cat fights and keep the markets clean of sticky fingers.
The smaller ones being self policing.

>aging
They all age very slowly, the average life span live to between 300-400 years of age. The elderly are mostly in influential positions on smaller islands running clans and families. Mostly just hanging out and being old people though. Elderly in larger settlements will often be taken care of by the family.

>reproduction
Because of their long lifespans reproduction just isn't as important. Most women only having 3-4 children in their entire lives.

>time passed since humanity
a few hundred years. Kemomi number in the low millions.

>how high the waters rose
a LOT. At least 600m, as the planet was flooded by a huge ice meteor storm, possibly caused by humanity. The game likely takes place near south america for tropical climates, and volcanic islands wherever needed. Also the meteor brought alien lifeforms frozen on it.

>currency (check this out, original content here)
Fangs, a somewhat rare crystalline structure introduced by the ice meteors which slowly accumulate minerals in them. Various fangs might have different metals, some might just contain salt, and be worth little, but some might contain iron or gold.and be worth a lot. This would be similar to Tiberium from Command and Conquer, but less horribly poisonous.

>average level of tech
Most settlements have small scale solar or wind power, and they use it to power things like lights, desalinization plants. radios, and other fairly simple tech. They also have a bustling trade in porta-batteries and working earless tech, such as ipods, radios, flashlights and other things that are easy to understand. Think 3rd world countries in most places, but there are advanced settlements such as the fabled Akadmee

>government and organization
most large settlements are self governed and run by a democratically elected council of some sort. Some are quite organized and hierarchical, others are more laid back and tribalistic, or even almost feral, and there are a few places like Akadmee which are very high tech, to the point where they are more advanced than modern day tech in some ways. There is a roving organization like the national guard composed of mostly dogs that keeps the peace among settlements and fights piracy.

>themes
performing at various settlements to impress locals and earn their keep, diving for shinies and exploring earless ruins, diplomacy with unmet settlements while exploring.

pic on that is a WIP settlement that the party in my game is going to be based out of. It's a pretty decent sized community on an island enough for some serious agriculture, which means they are fairly wealthy there. In a world where the majority of the planet it water, people commonly eat fish and kelp and such. Grown plants like bananas are harder to come by and are premium foods.

Also amusingly a working ipod with a lot of uncorrupted music files on it might be worth more to a kemomi than a engine or something much more practical.

Kemomi are silly. Remember that, we are not trying for a super serious setting here.
>>
So I'm just going to post some random ideas I have about this setting. People will probably be uninterested and they'll never become canon, but still.

I imagine the world is different from the earth we know. Everyone always posts those pictures of what the earth would look like if it were flooded, and no matter how much you rise the waters, there are usually some very large, almost continent-sized islands. So I think it might be best to imagine that this is some other planet, where it's implied that humans (or a human-like race) once lived on.

I imagine the geography to consist of three categories: "shallows", "depths", and islands. Shallows are between about 1 and 5 feet deep, and are where most small settlements are located. They are also home to vast mangrove forests that provide wood and fruit. In the shallows most kemonos live in simple stilt-houses. The shallows usually end abruptly and plummet directly into The Depths. Depths are between 20 and 500 feet deep. The majority of Earless ruins are located here, with some of them being tall enough to pierce the surface. Some of these ruins that rise above the surface, like skyscrapers, are used to make some of the largest kemono settlements, which are almost city-sized. Islands are exclusively tropical and usually home to wild and uncivilized tribes of kemonos. Although these locations are very important for trading rare resources from land, dealing with the locals can be troublesome at best.
>>
>>27578836
Everything decays very slowly, with most of the ancient earless building remaining structurally sound, even underwater. The reasons for this are unclear, but it is assumed that either something was introduced to the planet which slowed decay during the apocalypse (bacteria, gas, chemicals, etc?).

I think there would be roughly five basic types of communities: "isolated", "village", "city", "crew", and "tribes". Isolated kemonos are a small group or family living by themselves, usually in the shallows. This type usually produces something, either through aquaculture, repair, pearl farming, animal farming, refueling, or some other function. They may bring additional workers to help them, or it may simply be a family that enjoys their solitude. A village is a small group of kemonos who live on stilt-houses in the shallows, together. A city is a repurposed earless building or collection of buildings, that house many kemonos living together in close proximity. A crew is a group living on a ship, as traders, explorers, fishermen, divers, pirates, etc. And finally tribes are lose groups of primitive and mysterious kemonos who live together on the islands.

Cuisine usually consists of a combination of fruits, fish, bird, and algae. I all ready posted my ideas on algae here (>>27577277), but I'm going to backtrack and say that maybe it's not best used for money. But I really do think that 'magic algae' could be used as an explanation for a lot of things. There could be hundreds of different species, each with a different function like fuel, alcohol brewing, teas, snacks, soaps, use in baking to make bread-like substances, etc. For instance, it would be really difficult to explain where kemonos get the raw materials for textiles, so why not just have an algae that can be processed into cotton-like twine? Things like that.

You guys like story time? Ah of course ya' do. Strap in, mind the flashin' dot, and lets get headed out to the open blue then.

Our tale begins on Star Dust Port, with five roughamuffins out for adventure. You see, there was a premier of some movies dredged up from a Dive recently. It featured some earless pirates on the high seas, cursed treasures, spooky squid faces, and great battles. It touched the hearts of the leader of our band of adventurers, a fiery lass of the cat-like persuasion named Rook (well it was actually Brooke but she was a black cat, the nickname stuck) who rounded up her closest friends; James the cat, Flops the bunny, Skips the cat, and Niccolo the fox. With the crew assembled they stole off into the night.

You see what Rook had gotten squirmed into everyone's head was that they could cut it as pirates! Pirates got all sorts of shinies and great adventures and tales told of them for the ages. One thing stood between them and the time of their life however, they didn't have a boat. Now this could be problematic but remember, they just decided to become pirates and pirates steal things. Flops was a bit uncomfortable about this all happening at once but she came around as everyone got into the spirit of things.

So they pull out a map of the city, they gotta get from their current spot in the north apartments to the docks in the south. Niccolo, with a flourish, marks their final destination with an x to the general merriment of the others. They plan their route to avoid the lights of the parties that go late into the night, through the night market square (because Skips wanted to grab some snacks before they went), and tip toeing about the southern ward through alleyways and past the dock side bars to their prize. Then they swung their rucksacks and satchels into place and got to it.

Also - I'm warming to the idea of fangs because of how you mentioned there being different varieties. Clear ones might be worth 1, white ones worth 5, silver ones worth 50, yada yada etc etc.

Things went smoothly enough for the first while, dodging the lights and sounds of merriment emitting from the stacked apartments. Their only bit of difficulty was two drunken cats on a roof who caught sight of them rushing through the dark city. With a bit of fast thinkin' a lie was cut by James. He had a surfboard with him so he simply said that they were tryin' the waves at night. A fist pump and a holler to try where the tides come in just past the harbour near the lighthouse from the drunks later they were on their way again. Then came the night market.

You see in Star Dust Port there's a big central market. By day it serves your usual merchant needs. By night its the most happening spot in the city, its edges lined with food carts that hawk their wares to those dancing beneath the stars. This night was a particularly lively impromptu festival involving a lot of streamers and some zip-lines a cart operator had set up (that conveniently ended right by him of course). So our band of wannabe pirates are shouldering through the crowds and soaking it up. Skips and James dart off to sample the foods, stuffing their bags and satchels to the brim with delicacies like kelped and grilled fish, crabs on sticks, and these real spicy tomatoes stuffed with catnip. Well, James sampled a bit of the tomato and diverted to the zipline. The lineup was quite long and didn't want to off put the rest of the group so a few rolls later he was climbing up the wall of a nearby building with his surfboard. Soon his antics caught him a bit of spotlight as some flashlights started circlin' around him and some inquisitive heads seein' what was comin' next. What came next was him flipping off the building with arms outstretch to catch the line while planting his feet in the board's straps. He caught it with his elbow and he slid down to the end surfing through the air. A cheer rose from the crowd and his trick was awarded with shrimp on a stick by the cart vendor.

Of course this brought them a good bit of attention but no one thought much of anything about it. They finished off their shopping and left the market with James getting a few high-fives on the way out.

Now all that was left was the docks. Through the dark they beat feet. Rook was like a black cat at night; scampering and shimmying up the tight spaces between buildings to get a look from above and directing them past the groups of sailors, double-backing past the most active taverns and bars, and generally avoiding the port authority at all costs. Their effort and good fortune couldn't last forever though. A patron of one bar stumbling about back asked what they were doing sneakin' about the place. Having had some success with the surfing fib earlier they tried it again. It worked, sorta. This time however the fellow wanted to come with them and went to grab his board from where he left it at the bar. In a flurry of panic they devise a plan.

James entered the bar proper while Flops distracted the stumbling patron alongside, stalling him from entering with chatter about where the best waves are for them to catch and if he knows any ships that might come in at night to be wary of. A big dog in the bar looks over and sees James enter and yells out for him, "Hey that was a neat trick ya' pulled at the market." This of course piques the interest of everyone in the bar, and James steps up to recount the event. He does admirably with the theatrics, getting the crowd excited and hanging on his words. Then he offers a show, leaping back out of the room with his board. He spies a nearby clothesline, dashes up the building and with the roll of some dice he pulls off the trick again to the cheers of the drunken crowd watching.

Meanwhile Niccolo snuck amongst the crowd, picked up a board on the wall he correctly assumed was the fellow's who was still distracted by Flops. He held it up after James did his stunt and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Who's next?"

A mad rush of drunken sailors begin clambering up the side of the building to hang on clotheslines and try their best at imitating what they'd just seen. Most of which ended hilariously with sore tails but one excited fellow grabbed the board out of Niccolo's hands as Flops and the tagalong rounded the corner. Seeing his board in someone else's hand doing a stunt he dropped the conversation and went rushing after it yelling at the miscreant.

In the madness the group slipped away laughing. The docks were now at hand. They surreptitiously looked out amongst the boats and eventually settled on one that was like a modified dhow. Its two triangular sails wrapped about the masts as it sat lapping it up on the harbour. Its crew was no where to be seen so they boarded the ship. Aboard was some fishing gear they found, and more importantly a couple outboard motors were angled out of the water but with a little muscle they managed to get them in. Settling in they were almost there! They were about to start their great adventure!

Well that is until they tried starting the outboards. Out of gas. Well bugger, where are they gonna get a bunch of fuel at this time of night without anyone gettin' suspicious? No where that's where. They'd have to steal them some fuel.

Now they had a few options. They coulda siphon'd it from other boats but they decided it was mean enough they were takin' the boat already. No, they took the most daring option available to them, they wanted to steal from the port authority because that's what pirates do.

For this mission Skips, Rook, and Flops were up front while James and Niccolo prepared the boat for their likely speedy exit.

So Flops and Skips emptied their bags of their supplies and put a fuel can in each to hide them. Rook snuck along, doing her thing to warn and guide them along. They approach the port authority's compound along the docks. Its late at night and not a whole lot of people are on duty there at this hour, most of them would be in the main administrative building and maybe a couple on stand by in case an emergency flared up they needed to respond to. This left their dockside fueling station with only two bored guards. Sitting about a checkerboard on the compound wall next to the fuel station they were more into their game than their work. Skips and Flops made good use of their time, filling up the tanks twice and returning to their boat before coming back on the third time. This third time one of the guards looked over while they were fueling up, jolted upright and started yelling.

Flops was already on edge at this and soon her bunny instincts kicked off. Instead of answering his calls to halt and explain what the hell they were doing she screwed the cap back her tank quick-like and beat feet like only a bunny can. This left Skips and Rook to follow suit as the guards raised the alarm there were thieves about.

All across the port the scattered patrols were alerted to this by the static across their radios. It wasn't hard to miss the three of them running flat out along the dockside. Soon the three had a mob of a dozen angry port authority on their heels. They dashed, flipped and dodged around boxes and stalls scattering the dockside but it wouldn't shake them forever. Luckily for them, they didn't have to do it forever, just until they got to the length of pier that waited with Skips and James.

Er Niccolo and James it should have been in the last bit. Shouldn't be typin' this at this hour oh well. Anyways.

The three dashed down that pier like the devil himself nipping at their tails. Niccolo had already drawn in the mooring lines so when they vaulted over the ship's edge James ripped the engines to life and began backing out. It wasn't going fast enough for them though so the rest took whatever was at hand, boards, sticks, whatever, and began using them to push against the pier to get them going. This was just enough for them to get out of easy jumping distance from the pier. One port authority cat tried to jump but he landed a bit short, spluttering as the boat moved out of reach faster than he could swim.

They turned and began hightailing it out of the port as the siren of a port authority patrol boat lit up after them. The megaphone in hand demanding they kill their engine and turn themselves in. In response, our crew dashed about the boat in panic. Flops was tearing up a bit, she didn't want to get caught and punished. Meanwhile Niccolo and Skips jiggered with the rigging and managed to get the sails free. Getting them lashed down was another matter entirely. They struggled against the wind to put them in the proper position as the patrol craft gained on them.

Rook was at the helm, ignoring the crackling radio at her side while James poured the last of their ill-gotten fuel into the tanks. Full-throttle wasn't enough for them to get away from the lighter and faster patrol boat and they had only moments before it overtook them. If only they could make it out of the protected harbour where the rougher seas would be too much for the patrol boat.

Then in a flash of luck and brilliance the wind snapped in the right way. The sails unfurled and were quickly tied out. They filled with wind and propelled them along, skipping across the shallow waves and out of the harbour.

>"Okay, that makes sense."

>"Then you show two of your tiles to your opponents."

>"That... doesn't make sense."

>"Haha, look closer!"

>"Eh! They're all dropping out!"

>"That's right. They know that normally the only reason you would discard a pair of cards like that is if you had an even stronger hand."

>"Oh! You're brilliant!"

>"Haha, I know. So now we get all of the antes. That's 3000 chips! We've all ready doubled our funds!"

>"Wow! Great work! Let's quit while we're ahead then."

Well one character was a young cat deck hand who had for her favorite weapon a life ring that had a metal strip around it and she could bash people by tossing it at them with a rope tied to it, then fish them up from falling overboard after the fight.

Silly I know.

Also had her "big sis" as one of the crew who wore a airliner life vest all the time that she picked up on a previous dive, she was proud of finding it and it made a nice head rest inflated when she took naps on her breaks.

Aw, don't worry I like it a lot. Catamarans in general make me happy and I think that multi-hull ships really fit this setting

You should make more stuff to illustrate aspects of the setting. Repurposed skyscrapers coming out of the water, turned into giant cities with rope borders connecting them together. Tribal island life. Or just simple stuff like illustrations of the types of tools people might use. Stuff like that

Hope the thread's here tomorrow

Well, here's this, at any rate. I've reconsidered them in terms of D&D because I'm still not used to FATE (and I can't get a game together), but you can probably interpret them very easily into FATE stats. From left:

Allec: Kitsumi. WIS/CHA. Expert pilot, excellent memory (for maps, connections' names, et cetera); frequently spokesman for the party onshore.

Mata: Nekomi. INT/STR. Mechanically inclined, familiar with Earless tech and languages; quick thinker but sometimes rash.

Renner: Inumi. STR/CON/WIS. Boat owner, captain, decision maker; cool in a crisis, probably has points in Intimidate.

Bean: Usami; DEX/INT. Excellent sight and hearing, resident lock-picker/safecracker/trap spotter; resident genki girl, can sing and play guitar.

>CATamaran

Just a quick question in a thread tangential to the topic...

Let's say that instead of monohulls, shipwrights of the world settle on multihull designs for large ships. With low-tech building techniques, how big can they make them?

The biggest ships that at least have some relation to multihulls were probably the Chinese treasure ships, because they were flat-bottomed raft type ships without ballast or a keel, but how big can you build if you strap two big wooden ships together?

Cats hate everybody, though they also enjoy being the center of attention. They wag their tails when annoyed.

Dogs want to be everybody's friend and enjoy playing around with anybody they meet. They wag their tail when they're happy.

Rabbits are timid and flighty but also feel lonely when not surrounded by people. Their tails shake when afraid or dancing.

The bigger the crab, the better the eatin', y'know?
So, those there Giant Enemy Crabs can feed a crew for a week, if you add the right herbs to it. Just gotta flip 'em over and stab 'em in the face just so.

> Earless architecture, and why it's still standing
See, the Earless were very good at building stuff. They called 'em arcologies, an' they were built to survive the end of the world. That's how they advertised 'em; I snagged a poster a while back.
And, well, they did. Can't say much about the Earless, maybe they're asleep, maybe they left, maybe they're dead, maybe they turned into the crabs.

Other good eatin' is big fish. Or the big fish that aren't really fish. We don't catch many of those, though. They're really hard to get, and they can smash even the big trading boats if they get mad enough.
>>
>>27583107
Small alcohol-fuelled seaplanes is a good thing.

Also, I still want to push for big monohull tall ships, sailing the oceans in the huge winds created by the lack of land. They'd trade large amounts of commodities; alcohol, bales of catnip, shinies, and anything people need to trade but isn't so valuable it needs to be sneakily/rapidly delivered, or is too big to fit on small boats.

Gotta say I smiled a bit when you said "DM (Dive Master)".

Biggest criticism is probably that Dogfolk's racial ability seems odd, dogs are more known for smell than hearing, and I'm not sure what "may hear inaudible sounds as if they were normally audible" means exactly, how does one "hear" something that doesn't make a noise? Probably a matter of wording (or my reading ;^) than the ability itself though.

And Kumamimi's racial ability seems a bit op for a sailing game, probably would reduce that to a +2 bonus to sailing or gear checks once per session or so.

Usamimi and Kitsumimi seem good.

Yeah, looks good, keep it up!
>>
>>27585745
>>27585745
Not who you're replying to, but I imagine the dogs' racial ability refers to their ability to hear ranges of ultra sound that humans can't. And while a dog's hearing acuity is less famous than their sense of smell, in this campaign setting hearing would be less useful. Can't smell the water while you're diving.
>>
>>27585529

Cutters, which were the faster kind of tall ships, saw limited use even in the early part of the 20th century doing the australia-england tea run in a month or so with a good crew - they were getting metal hulls and masts by that time of course but still it was only the gas turbine that really saw them fall completely out of use.

>tfw you realise there was literally a time when tall ships and airships were concurrent and you didn't live to see it.

Think dog whistles.

Also, I'm seeing a sort of dive(r) bar in my head, now. Oil drums for seats, with padding strapped to the top. Bar is a big lump of steel plate polished up, and resting on old engine blocks stood on end. Rack of unmarked, grubby bottles of alcohol behind the bar, and a grumpy bunnygirl with an eyepatch tending bar, scowling at someone animatedly telling a story about their latest dive, keeping half the bar entranced.
The rest are quietly smoking catnip, drinking algal brews, or idly toying with small shinies as they wait for the call to adventure.
>>
>>27585915
Jemm sighed. Some catguy with a fancy hat and a funny accent was talking up a storm in the corner, and half the patrons were listening intently to him instead of drinking, like they should be.
The usual suspects were at the bar, smoking catnip pipes and chewing algae biscuits while nursing mugs of beer.

Then... Then a captain arrived. She'd seen the tallship pull into the harbour last night, kemomis hanging from the rigging with coloured lights signalling to the tug crews and rope handlers, and relaying instructions to the pilot in the stern. This captain must have been from the ship.
She could tell he was a captain; he had the swagger, the worn tri-corner hat held under his arm, and he practically radiated authority. Even the hatted guy in the corner shut up as he stepped in, and the regulars straightened up, shuffled over to make room, and some even offered a half-tailed attempt at a salute.
He ignored them, strode in, and leaned on the bar, hands precisely missing a patch of spilled algae brew as he leaned in to whisper to her. The kind of whisper that the whole bar could hear.
'I'm looking for a dive crew...'

How is it that a Sea world setting full of half naked girls and dog people who instinctually follow the "Alpha" of their group, doesn;t have a shit tonne of pirates of the rapey sort? I know it's a noble bright thing but still at least some pirates. I would be a pirate in this scenario, Even if I was forced to act like the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. Hell ESPESCIALLY if I got to act like the Pirates who don't do anything

Pirates DO do something. They raid ships, toss the crew in a life raft with some supplies, and then make off with ship and cargo.

Kemomi aren't as given to acts of violence and destruction as the earless once were.

I personally like lighter than air things like blimps better. Seaplanes combine the finickyness of engines, wings, landing gear and other things, and seawater has a tendency to wear down and ruin pretty much everything. Lighter than air blimps are mechanically simple, and the hardest thing to maintain is their airtightness.

>>27586690
this is primarily an original setting. If you are not into noblebright and you want rape pirates, then feel free to have them. That basically means that you are going to have a semi-ERP game, which is already a huge NOPE factor for a lot of people. It does make sense though, animal groups often do have a alpha animal that gets to do what they want as far as food, sex and who stays in the group.

>Nine Pillars
A settlement with several thousand individuals, located near several tribal islands. The settlement is mainly composed of nine skyscrapers jutting out of the ocean, which have been reinforced over the years with causeways, rope bridges, and various other enhancements. The population is diverse and the majority of people work as craftsmen. The jewelry, clothing, tools, and other items that are produced are typically traded to the islanders for food and raw materials. Each of the skyscrapers has it's own leaders, typically one or two elders who help people work out disputes and randomly assign work details to the people living there. By choosing to live in Nine Pillars, everyone agrees that they will go on work detail if their name is chosen, which usually means constructing and reinforcing the building. The also agree to arm themselves and be a part of the militia, to help defend against any pirate raids or monster attack. There is some social stratification, with craftsmen tending to live towards the top of the towers, and with traders, explorers, adventurers, and other unsavory-types living on the bottom, near the sea.

Low-Tech: Hand Signals
Modern Tech: Short-range radio in facemask regulator rig.
Earless Tech: Tight-band laser transmissions between divers, built into dive helmets.
>>
>>27595173
Actually I have a few times. But mainly we just stayed together in pairs and communicated by either touching, pointing, or banging our knife against the air tank (which is loud enough to get the attention of everyone in the immediate area).

And that worked for our purposes but I figured that multiple people working together, fighting things could potentially get complicated.
>>
>>27595288
True that, probably Pilot's idea, with something easily seen as a medium where hand signals wont work.

>The Omen Of The Return Of The Curse Of The Undead Specter - Part One: The Shivering Terror From The Depths!
Strange things have been happening in the city of Crateville. The former container ship is now a sprawling metropolis and trading center for countless merchants. But rumors are spreading of eerie happenings: strange noises, mysterious sightings, and even disappearances! A reward has been posted for anyone who can get to the bottom of the mystery. Your trusty crew has decided to become paranormal investigators for the time being, and enter into the bowels of the ship, which no one has laid eyes on in countless years. Well... no one living at least, bwa ha ha!

>Crash Hunt!
Your trusty vessel has run aground on a hidden reef. Luckily your crew has washed up on the shore of this mysterious and uncharted island. But waiting for you in the depths of the jungle is something terrifying, a beastly beast that is stalking and hunting you! Now your party must gather supplies to stay alive, and explore mysterious ruins from the previous inhabitants that will shed light on what is hunting you, and how to defeat it.

I'll try to come up with more, but that's all I have off the top of my head.

>Tomb of the Earless
The team finds a single floating cannister on the ocean. Thinking it's salvage, they bring it aboard only to find it contains the frozen body of a Earless. Not knowing how to properly deal with it, it promptly breaks, ending the stasis and life of it's occupant, but not before it dispatches a distress signal.

In the process the team will have to deal with oldguard rescue drones who will stop at nothing to "save" the now dead occupant, attacking anything that gets in their way. The only way to stop this is to return the body back to the facility deep underwater where the canister was ejected from.

What dangers and wonders await the team then?

>WARNING: The Cetus Is Coming!
There have been sightings of the massive and terrifying Cetus! The Cetus is an enormous whale-like creature that feeds mainly on inanimate materials by siphoning water, sand, ruins, rock, and even entire buildings into it's gaping maw! And it looks like it is coming straight for your settlement! You have no chance of defeating it, but maybe, just maybe, with enough force you can repel the beast and make it change course. You sail out in your boat and fight it once a day for several days in a row until its HP is significantly lowered. After you're done for the day, you return to resupply, heal, rest, etc. The Cetus is covered in crabs, barnacles, feeder fish, and all sorts of creatures that pose their own threat to you. the various battle stages could be:

>Fighting it from a moving ship with weapons, mainly long distance
>Climbing on it's back while it's moving and attacking it
>Fighting underneath it, in the water
>Fighting it on the shore of your island, in a last-ditch attempt to stop it from advancing any further
>Getting swallowed whole and fighting inside of it

depends on the type of helmets. If you have glass bubble helmets you can touch them and transmit vibrations to talk if you are that close. Honestly to talk you need a head covering helmet, radio with a regulator in your mouth is not really a thing iirc, breathing is noisy and hard enough.

I was worried about that, but I personally think that there's a way to have combat and tension while still not having it be dark or gritty.

Hmm how do I put this without sounding like I'm encouraging railroading... basically I think a lot of these could potentially just not have bad consequences if you fail.

Like >>27595692 would be like scooby doo for the first one, and >>27596896 would ultimately not destroy the settlement, stuff like that.

I always thought the idea of a Jazzy, underwater bar reserved exclusively for the best of the best Divers would be neat. Like, a place thats equal parts Rapture and a Speakeasy where you would find the kind of madman who steals shinies straight out the biggest nest of Kleptomanders and duels the captain of the Shiny Slit Pirates with his off hand.
>>
>>27586728
Not only that, but pirates are savvy enough to know that if you let your quarry go after you rob them, they or someone else will undoubtedly try that Dive Spot again, meaning more loot. Start killing people and people either get serious or just avoid the area entirely.

Its like butchering your milking cow.
>>
>>27591723
That kind of relationship would fit CATastrophe perfectly if you ask me.
>>
>>27595015
I always assumed the dives were a mix of watery segments and searching through air pockets inside the ruins.
>>
>>27596737

>>
>>27597253
Depends on what sort of tech you want. No SCUBA gear means your dives are shallow and you'd need air pockets. If you got gear, then you can add some drama (like having a air line get a nick in it, etc...).

A;so I forgot to add this in my document, but there are consequences for failure, generally losing what you find, or having the gear you got damaged (perhaps without repair) or being way lost from your ship when you return to conciousness on the surface.
>>
>>27596974
>I'm noticing there is some grimdark creep in some of these scenarios...
I think it all depends on execution. Take Crash Hunt for example. It COULD be a slavering, kemomimi eating monstrosity out to get you, or it could just be a military Oldguard that has been repurposed for marketing purposes and is overly aggressive in its advertisement protocol and he just wants to sell you a tasty beverage.

Okay, I'm back to push my algae agenda.

I think that it would help the lore of this setting to have lots of algae / seaweed which can easily be farmed or collected from the wild. There would be dozens of varieties, and each one can be easily processed to serve a specific purpose. This would mainly be used to explain away certain things that would be very hard to justify having in this setting normally. Some examples of different thigns that could be processed from this would be:

>Soda drinks
>Alcohol
>A flour-like substance for baking
>Medical pills, powders, etc
>Paper
>Textiles
>Dyes
>Hot tea-like beverages
>Smokeable ones like tobacco
>Candies
>Spices
>Soap
>>

The more FUTURETECH you go, the less talking underwater becomes an issue, too, since you could always have some kinda space suit deal going on with a full helmet and all.

Well, tech wise I personally run in a setting where modern dive tech is available. Usually a face-mask rig has some sort of microphone that can be added to the mask for communication, and radio can travel for a short distance underwater as far as I know.

Of course for the cocoanutpunk fanatics out there, well hand signals.

And for those wanting to make a Earlesspunk tech setting, then well, full dive suits with some com-laser or some sort of sonar speaker can work wonders.

Just depends on how -you- want to do things.

Seaweed and Algae is a very good idea, particularly in advanced settlements. The nice thing about CATastrophe, and I think this should be canonized as another slogan for it:

"It's a big ocean, anything can happen!"

So what works for you, the DM, works.

First off, love all these ways for describing things.

Hmm, I don't want to bother everyone who's designing this setting, but since the DMs are given so much freedom, it might help in those guide PDFs to have a part that explains different, like... builds you could do for the setting to your game. Like just listing some tips DMs should think about in relation to their setting and technology - do they want it to be almost entirely scavenged goods, or almost entirely self-sufficient technology? What do they want the communities to be like? Stuff like that.

OHGOD ITS ME! Someone found a name for my preferred type of game for CATastrophe. I personally think that a lot of DMs lack enough imagination to deal with a truly lowtech setting. >Full Moon Mayhem - The Partytime Party People Versus The Chewy Crab Critters!
The adventuring business has been scarce recently. In lieu of any real action, your crew has taken up hosting parties on your boat. You've finally landed a lucrative deal to host the Coming-Of-Age ceremony for a small village. This is an important ritual for Kemonomimi and signifies their passing from child to adult. It is held on the first full moon, but unbeknownst to the village, this also coincides with the molting season for the Giant Sandcrab! Now you need to prevent these giant softshell crabs from overrunning the ship and messing up the party. Some of your party will have to fight off the enemy, while the rest will have to collect the bodies and fry them up into a delicious stew for the guests!
>>
I keep thinking of running this setting but I'm having trouble getting a good picture for the characters that aren't cats without dropping the more human characteristics.
I.E. I have this character in mind, an eccentric dog captain who's proximity to his mostly cat crew has given him a very lazy and relaxed demeanor, due to his incompetence he's been given a "leave of absence" on a remote sanctuary to get some RnR, he's still very close with his former crew and re-enacts his "mutiny" with a much more dramatic showdown with his former first mate who happens to be a cat girl who is happy to play along whenever she shows up to pay him a visit. My problem with this is, whenever I think about it I can't help but think of the cat girls being more human like and the dog captain being this big anthropomorphic Saint Bernard.
While the character I feel is well put together I can't get a clear image of what he's supposed to look like in this primarily human with animal attributes setting

>my preferred type
>I personally think that a lot of DMs lack enough imagination to deal with a truly lowtech setting.

One thing to have a preference, it's another to force it on others. I'm accommodating for "cocoanutpunk", but it's not my cup of tea. I'm making the palette for other DMs to draw from.

I'm not saying make your setting about living off the land, but the possibility of "Parties, Surfing, and Dives" is reduced substantially unless there is a lot of handwaveum applied as most would be focused on daily survival.

There is drawbacks to your style and probably not for everyone.
>>
>>27598184
I overwhelmingly prefer the idea of living out in the ocean, in either giant semi-submerged ruins or makeshift stilt houses, instead of on an island. But I want them to be mostly self-sufficient, besides that. There's a lot of things to think of though. Even simple raw materials like wood and metal might be hard to come by.
>>
I think what we have to remember is the three images this setting draws from. The tech in that setting was pretty modern looking. I think that should be considered the "common" settlement in CATastrophe. Not to say there aren't settlements that are barely living off the land or settlements that are Earless-tech utopias.
>>
Hah, actually all this talk makes me want to make an illustration of the chart of Coconut tech versus Scavenger. It would just give examples of different items and concepts and some ways they might be different. Like for lighting it might be torches for one, and light bulbs powered by natural energy for the other. Music would be simple drums and wind instruments for one, and recorded music and electric guitars for the other, etc.
>>
>>27598354
Yeah, one last thing before I go to bed. I'm just stunned that other people had the same reaction to these images (>>27577079 >>27577946 and >>27580015 ) as me. Or at least that's how I assume this setting came to be.

Because when I saw the first one, I was so blown away by feeling happy and relaxed that I started imagining what that world would be like. So I'm glad other people felt the same way. I really should write the artist.

So I just ran a game of CATastrophe on a chat service.

I had a salty Sea Cat named Tuplet who was one of our nautical experts.

A younger Surfer named Eido, who rode around on a Raydude named Rayban.

A Shinymancer Feline named Karen.

Nekos, all of them.

finally we had a somewhat whimsical Face by the name of Phone Bottle. She was a Kitsunemimi.

Anyways they started off in a Ship, six man, Sails combined with an Alcohol powered engine. They were swept off course by a storm and did some triangulation with their radio, Diver's Bay was the only notable source of radio signals but they decided to go to Sunset Reef instead. ( http://pastebin.com/c7WYDJCJ )

Sunset Reef was home to many kinds of creatures, not the least of which being several crabs whose legs were so long they reached the ocean floor. (Those proved to be mostly harmless, apparently they fed via sucking in plankton and other substances and sifting the water through a kind of filter) Anyways Sunset reef was a coral reef that had over taken a subsection of the babylon city ruins. It used the towers there as supports and was home to plenty of caves and hollows, it was the towers that interested my players however.

They dived down to one of the towers and found a breach in an office building it had several sealed glass cases bolted to pedestals, some contained jewelry, some contained weapons, some contained paintings of a sad clown in an iron lung. One even had a sports car.

Well my guys used some tools from Karen's kit to pull the cases off the wall and pedestals. They managed to get two small clown paintings, a case of jewelry, a case of 3 stun pistols, and a case of knives.

But as they were ascending they were attacked by a Stalker (robotic spider tank.) Tuplet found a cave and crawled/climbed to the surface. Karen found some Floater Kelp (A type of plant that consists of an enormous gas bubble, when attacked it would shoot straight for the surface, so when she grabbed it it tried escape.)
>>
>>27601112
Eido had strapped the knives to his riding harness and was riding Rayban to the surface so he was pretty much the best off of the bunch.

But poor, spastic bottle got caught up in strangler kelp on her way up. so the Stalker was able to get closer to her. Seeing this Eido cut the knives loose and tossed them away. (Too much weight.)

The Stalker went for the knives instead of Bottle and Eido was able to grab her. (which was good sense she was the one with the Pistols.) Anyways they rode up to the surface and every clambered into the ship. (except Rayban who followed the ship like a Boss.)

They weren't safe, the Stalker was following them and they just barely managed to get the Engine on in time. Even so the Stalker leapt at the ship and came up short, it landed in the water and sunk into The Blue while they fled.

But as the Young Kemonomimi celebrated being alive Stalkers of all shapes and sizes swarmed over the Reef, the largest of which was 5 stories tall and it kept search lights trained on their ship until they were out of range.

The pistols proved to be useless, since the Kemonomimi didn't have the tools required to recharge them, or any manuals to understand their innerworkings but they did have quite a bit of jewelry on hand. (Which was good since they needed trade goods for water, fuel, and food, and the only thing they had for that were several casks of fun weed, drug paraphernalia, a disco-ball and spares for their sailing rig.)

and that's where we ended things. Hopefully we can pick it up and play later.

What? I just thought Koku (early japanese currency based on a set quantity of rice) + Neko = Nekoku made a semi-passable pun

CURSE YOU MERCIFUL POSEIDON!
>>
So, we got "Unfrizz your tail" for a Kemomimi saying. Any other ideas?
>>
>>27607657
"Purrfect" lolcats

"Don't let the door hit you on the tail on your way out." to asshole people who are leaving

"Watch your tail asshole!" to dogs with particularly active tails

and I imagine a fairly regular childish slurring of various words. Like foods. It almost always is pronounced with an s at the end.

Because then the furries can't masturbate to it.

Something I noticed on the Wiki that is a bit of a error...

>Phish - Small, photosynthetic fish. They like to hang out near the surface to bask in the sunlight and are exceptionally tasty. With algae and widespread kelp less common now than before the cataclysm, Phish make up the foundation of several food chains in the Endless Blue.

Plankton and Algae are just as common as they are now, if not way more so as the warm environment and nutrient rich water favors their development.

Had this setting stuck in my head for the last week, so happy to see a thread finally.
I've created a few extra races mostly for my own amusement.

Wolves
Closest thing the setting would have to a bad race.
They are somewhat of a failed experiment. They aren't as resistant to pressure as the other races so they aren't to good at diving. Also while the other Kemomimi's can bread with each other, wolf pups will only be born if both its parents are wolves.
They generally don't get along with other Kemomimi's. They don't hate them, but you'll rarely see a wolf hanging out with a group of other races. So they tend group together and live in the same neighborhood, usually at the outskirts of a settlement.

Rare born (lions, tigers, panthers)
Have a small chance to be born if at least one of their parent is a neko. Their children also would be cats so there wouldn't be rare born blood lines. They would have higher stat bonuses than the others races and would fill the role of important/high level npcs.
Lions would naturally gravitate to leadership positions such as political officials or ship captains. (I remember someone talking about a manly lion captaining a ship, in one of the early threads). So they would share similar traits as dogs.
Tigers would be more business oriented. I imagine them creating fastfood chains that would spread to multiple settlements or enterprising large scale expeditions to unlooted earless ruins.
Lastly panthers would be powered up cats. Excellent divers/treasure hunters whose reputation would precede them. With high agility and an even higher resistance to water pressure than you average Kemomimi.

So I was thinking.
What about having hang gliders as a method of transportation? An ocean breeze can do wonders for it. If there is sufficient technology, you could also strap a small propellor and motor onto it, to give boosts when needed. What can I say, I just always loved those personal flying craft from all the Miyazaki movies.

Of course this does raise something of an important question. What would the winds and currents be like in a world without continents? The currents might loosely follow the outline of the sunken continents, but I'm not sure. Would tropical storms perhaps be more common and easier to sustain? There would be no landmasses to get in the way. The idea of a perpetual storm belt filled with unclaimed shinies, or perhaps a giant perpetual moving storm, like the eye on Jupiter, could add some more myths and legends to the setting. More opportunities for grand adventure.

Ultimately I suppose these little details are all up to the DM. If its on a different planet than earth, they could make any number of things possible.

I can imagine something like Brink, but less guns and more just chilling on cyan seas, just having fun.

Just think anon, a cat/corgi girl/boy counterpart of yourself is homebrewing a fantasy world that has normal you in it in a parallel dimension.

Do you feel better now?

Alright, someone explain to me how to run a game of this if I've never played a tabletop before. I want my fix of being the catgirl of my dreams.
>>

1: Find a system.
2: Find some friends tired of grimdark and need a infusion of CATastrophe.
3: Think of crazy adventures to have.
4: ?
5: Profit!
>>
This looks interesting as fuck
>>

But corgis are sentient. I think you mean sapient.

A common misconception about CATastrophe is that there is no tension or danger. But in reality, this setting allows for countless varieties of quests, from happy and upbeat, all the way to extremely happy and upbeat.

Introducing
>Omega Super Double Dark CATastrophe: Beware of Edges Edition
Instead of spending your time just exploring, scavenging, and investigating like in traditional CATastrophe, you can have greater variety. This might include fighting a sea monster, fighting pirates, or even finding a haunted house filled with spooky skeletons. However death and serious injury is still ridiculously uncommon, and every remains happy no matter what.
>>
>>27614056
Yeah. Even the dark stuff in CATastrophe is bright as fuck.

>>27609065
Yay, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who keeps having this setting pop into my head. And I like the idea of occasional rare races to create powerful NPCs.

>>27610093
>The idea of a perpetual storm belt filled with unclaimed shinies
I like that a lot. It would be cool to have ertain areas that have either excessively strong currents / winds, or no currents / winds to impead travel and hide really rare and mysterious shines. We One Piece now.
>>
>>27614426
The Roaring Forties and southward. Look it up on Wikipedia. Now just imagine the entire south polar region being one ginormous tropical storm.
>>
>>27614426
Just imagine a game like PotC online, but CATastrophe and polished as hell. Oh man that would be fun as fuck.
>>
Is it too late to post our quest ideas? Doesn't matter because either way I'm going to.

>Rock Sea (Similar, but legally distinct from Stone Ocean)
Even in such a happy and peaceful world, there are some rapscallions who think it's okay to steal other people's hard-earned shinies. And when stern words aren't enough, there is no choice but to send them to the maximum security Blue Porpoise Avenue Jail. Inmates are given only three meals a day of fresh fish (plus snacks), and are forced to live in a cramped 10,000 square foot seaside estate with no access to catnip. Truly it is a hell on earth. Unfortunately your crew has been falsely convicted of piracy and are now imprisoned! You'll have to use all of your wits and cunning to hath a devious jailbreak scheme.
>>
If anyone wants to host this on Roll20.net, I am in
>>
>>27614639
Oh my god, I am so on board for a crazy Antarctic exploration adventure.

Maybe the crew goes exploring and finds some crazy At The Mountains Of Madness shit. Not evil Lovecraftian monsters, but just massive mysterious ruins from some society even more ancient that humans.
