You finish, smiling.

“O-ok.” Merlin, her voice torn between worry and confusion. “Pirate things?”

You nod. “Pirate Ninja.” You say, firmly.

“A-are you sure you're ok?” She asks.

You laugh.

The armorer is only too happy to give you several expended AT-4 tubes- you have no idea why they have expended tubes handy, but you're not going to complain. He even helps you set up a pair of them to still look live, which doesn't take too much effort.

You get more than a few strange looks, strolling through the passageway with a pair of antitank rockets slung across your back, another pair slung across your chest- which is damned uncomfortable- and another one under each arm. You're pretty sure someone's going to call the shipboard marine detachment before too long- good thing you let them in on what was going on. You can only hope Captain Blackwell doesn't take too much offense at the whole thing.

You're not surprised that the hatch is open- it's daytime afterall, and everyone is in and out of the room through the day. You can clearly hear the twins talking with someone- you're not sure if you hope it's Joe or not.

If it was a movie, the whole scene would happen in slow motion. You only wish you had a cigar as you turn the corner- delighting in the looks of horrified recognition switching to out and out panic as the twins and Joe all dive for the nearest cover as you yell “AVAST MOTHERFUCKERS” at the top of your lungs.

Slider, on the other hand, barely even deigns to look over the top of her book. “Frank, you look ridiculous. And put those back, I was having them save those for something.”

Alyssa laughs nervously, peeking around a corner, her familiar out and her eyes about as big as dinnerplates. “We knew those weren't real, Frank.” She says, her tone saying she, in fact, did not know they weren't.

“Y-yeah. Totally fake.” Clarissa says, looking over the edge of the table.

Well, think logically. It's a warship. You can't have people just sitting there doing nothing. While being a convenient-at-hand dick for a witch to jump on would serve a good purpose for morale and witch fitness and the like, it doesn't really justify their place onboard. So, you give them a job that would let them be idle most of the time: damage control. Frees up other crew from the dedicated damage control slots as well.

Now, in the case of an incident aboard ship, who typically dies the most? That's right, the damage control people. Tie that in with the Forestall fire, which is infamous for killing the damage control people who were sent to fight it (shitty bombs loaded on attack aircraft started exploding while they were fighting the fire despite the lack of fuses; it almost completely wiped out the first dedicated fire team to try and fight it), you can see why witches would suddenly be hesitant to put the ones they love in that kind of danger.
