"...so you really were paying attention, I'm actually impressed," Princess Marianne replies. "As for your question, it's because nobody wants to start an actual war. Krassato tolerates its existance as long as it doesn't try anything too outlandish, and Marconetti is wary about the number of casualties that would result from a full-scale invasion."

"But wouldn't Marconetti win in a war against them?" you ask.
"Yes, but thousands of people would lose their lives in the process," the Princess says to you, a serious expression on her face. "Their slave trade is reprehensible, but the casualties that would result on both sides of a direct conflict is too great to risk. While Marconetti is clearly superior in terms of military power, the difference between the two countries' armies isn't -that- great."

"Now if Alsiradna was to intervene, it would be a different story... but he doesn't extend his influence this far south," the Princess says, sighing. "Luciana's father is most likely biding his time until some internal conflict breaks out there."

Before the Princess can continue speaking, Arnaud enters the courtyard with your tea. After pouring cups for both you and the Princess, he places the teapot on the table and bows.

"You're running a bit late today, I see," Arnaud says, winking at the two of you. "I'm sure that Pauline will be disappointed that her class will have to be cut short..."

With a chuckle, Arnaud heads towards the door.

"I was wondering about her as well," the Princess joins in.
"Ah, yes..." Arnaud strokes his beard. "She's completely fine. No lasting damage, which should save Niklaus from Sir Vincent's wrath. Probably," he says with a chuckle.

"That's good to hear..." the Princess says.
"Yeah," you reply.
"I believe that she went back home to get changed shortly afterwards," Arnaud says. "Now I have a bit of business to attend to, so farewell for now."

Arnaud bows once again and then hurries out of the courtyard, casually spinning the serving tray he was holding on a single finger as he walks.

"So um... back to Ancellotta..." you begin, taking a sip of tea, "why do they have a slave trade, anyways? Is it really so profitable that it's worth all of their neighbors hating them?" you ask.
"Worthless people do worthless things..." the Princess sighs, placing her teacup on its saucer. "I'm not sure about the specifics but from what I've heard, its economy depends on having slaves to take care of menial labor and other tasks that the higher classes don't care to do. And as it's not the only country that deals in slaves, the emnity of their neighbors isn't a crippling problem for them."

"Ancellotta also borders the sea, so it's not limited in terms of trade routes either," the Princess says to you.

"I take it that we're outside of that area?" you ask.
"Yes, he keeps to the north," she replies, taking a sip of tea. "Best to consolidate his power in one area, rather than spread thin aross the continent."

With another long sigh, the Princess returns to her tea. You do the same, and the rest of your teatime is spent quietly. After both of you hav had your fill, the Princess stands up and motions for you to follow.

As you progress through the hallway, a feeling of dread grows within you as you slowly realize just where it is that you're headed...

Having been given a clean bill of health, Sylvie breathes a long sigh of relief. If she'd had any broken bones or other serious injuries, her father would be sure to completely destroy Mr. Niklaus.

Landing at the front door of her family's mansion, Sylvie quickly heads inside, quietly running through the main hall and up the stairs to her room...

...but not quietly enough.

"Sylvie? I hear you up there!" a woman calls from the first floor. "I know I raised you better than to come home without greeting your mother!"
"Geh... Sorry, Mother!" Sylvie shouts from the top of the stairs. "I'll be down in a bit, I'm kind of busy!"
"Too busy to come down and show your face first? I think not!"
"Okay, okay..."

Her attempt to get changed before anyone could spot her having failed, Sylvie sulks down the stairs, dreading the impending nagfest that is sure to come. Dragging her feet as she walks, Sylvie turns a corner and slowly enters the room where her mother is waiting.

"Um... good afternoon, Mother..." Sylvie says with a weak laugh, approaching a youthful-looking woman with golden hair in a tight bun who is casually sipping a cup of tea.
"And good afternoon to you, Syl..." her mother slowly turns towards her, and her eyes grow wide with horror.

"Oh my god, Sylvie! What in the world happened to you!" she shouts, jumping from her seat and grabbing Sylvie by the shoulders.
"Just a little duel, it's no big deal..." Sylvie replies, laughing nervously.
"D- DUEL!? YOU WERE IN A DUEL!?" her mother shrieks. "Who in the would would- was it that jerk Gregory? "

"I don't care if he's my cousin or not, NOBODY roughs up the daughter of Angelique Hélénie Granache!" she shouts, storming out of the room.

"...then please explain to me just who it is who I need to find," Angelique replies, removing Sylvie's hand from her shoulder.

"It was Mr. Niklaus! And he didn't hurt me or anything, see? I'm not even scratched!" Sylvie says, doing her best to calm her mother down.
"Niklaus? THAT fool?" Angelique stares at Sylvie. "Why in the world was he even... was he trying to get revenge for the time your father humiliated him?"
"N- no!" Sylvie shouts. "I wanted him to apologize for ruining Mr. Gerhard's books and he gave me his usual speech about never apologizing to someone without a fight and I was just so mad about the whole thing that I challenged him without thinking!"

Angelique looks at her daughter's torn clothing, broken glasses and messy hair, places her hand on her temples, and sighs.

"...I don't even have to tell you how unladylike it is for a young lady to go around challenging grown men to duels, much less one who is an Archmage." Angelique says in a dissapointed tone.
"Yes, I know..." Sylvie replies, sighing.
"You're never going to find a good husband if all you do is run around punching people! Now go and get changed before your father comes back and sees you like that."

Lowering her head in shame, Sylvie hurries upstairs to her room. The first thing she does is retrieve a spare pair of glasses from a drawer, as trying to navigate with fragmented vision gives one a headache after a while. After putting on some clean clothes and wasting about a halfhour brushing and rebraiding her hair, Sylvie heads back downstairs to tell her mother goodbye.

"I'm heading back to the castle..." Sylvie says, leaning into the room where her mother was...

...and now her father is sitting right next to her.

"D- Daddy?" Sylvie stammers. "What are you doing here so early?"
"It's been a slow day and everyone's been avoiding me more than usual..." Sir Vincent laughs. "...so I thought that I'd take the opportunity to have afternoon tea with my lovely wife for a change."

Having been put on the spot by Angelique, Sylvie cringes.

"And you should have seen her when she first got back, she was a complete mess! Her glasses were completely shattered, and her clothing..." Angelique shakes her head.

With an expression of pure unbridled JOY, Sir Vincent lifts Sylvie up into the air.

"Hahaha! That's my baby girl!" he shouts.
"C'mon, Daddy..." Sylvie replies, blushing. "Put me down, it's embarassing..."
"My sweet little angel beat Niklaus!" he tosses her in the air, catching her as she descends. "See, Angelique? I told you she was gonna be great!"
"Great at chasing off potential suitors..." Angelique replies, frowning.

Still smiling, Sir Vincent puts Sylie back down.

"So, what'd you use as the finishing blow? Giga Impact? WORLD BREAKER?" Sir Vincent asks excitedly, doing a different pose with each attack he says.
"C'mon, you know I still can't figure out the incantations you told me for those..." Sylvie replies, giggling. "I did use Cluster Impact, but that didn't work... at the end of the fight, I just ended up tripping him and then punching him in the face."

"...in the-" Angelique stares at her daughter in horror. "VINCENT! Just look at what you've turned your daughter into!"
"Quit being so stuffy, she's amazing!" Sir Vincent replies, tussling Sylvie's hair. "Even if he was screwing around in a fight, it takes a lot to actually be able to hit Niklaus with anything! He's like a friggin' snake that way!"
"Ehehe..." Sylvie giggles happily.
"...at least the other two take after me..." Angelique sighs.

Sir Vincent then heads towards the doorway.

"Eh? Where are you going?" Angelique asks.
"Gotta have words with Niklaus..." Sir Vincent replies, cracking his knuckles.
"Wha- But Daddy, I won that fight! And I'm the one who started it! Mr. Niklaus is kind of a jerk sometimes, but he's not a bad person..."
"Yeah, yeah... but it's still my duty as a man to inform him of the consequences of harming my baby girl," Sir Vincent says, giving his wife a thumbs-up.
"Do try not to break anything..." Angelique replies.

Sir vincent then kneels to the ground, showing his back to Sylvie.

"c'mon, I'll give you a ride there," he says.
"Wha- no, that's way too embarassing!" Sylvie shouts, completely flustered.
"Don't be shy, you used to LOVE it when I did this!"
"no no no no no!" she shouts. "I can fly back myself!"

Laughing to herself as she watches her husband and eldest daughter argue, Angelique takes a long sip of her tea.
