There are red handprints all over the walls. All possible exits from the bay, including ventilation shafts and maintenance crawlspaces, are completely pristine. Bioscans indicate the room is completely empty save for the players.

Full blown holes in the side of the ship, but when you look through them you dont see space, you see somewhere else. Like maybe more space station. Or a deserted town.

- One of the interior, windowless rooms on the station is revealed to be pitch-black when the bulkhead doors are opened. The empty space seems to eat up the beams of the salvage crew's flashlights. When the light switch is found, old, faded decorations and deflated balloons indicate that the room had been the scene of a surprise party.

- The escape pods or shuttle are long gone, and the corridors leading to them are choked with extraneous containers and loose items, toys and books and clothing. Most of it is run-of-the-mill, but some of it looks valuable or very personal. Posted on the walls nearby are hastily composed paper notices that each family is only allowed to bring XX(X) pounds of personal affects aboard the departing craft.

Playing cards floating all over the place. Couple in each room/section. They are made of thin plastic, color melded into the material, so even now the sun didn't bleach them entirely, they are just difficult to read. If players make the effort/care they can collect complete deck.

Terrarium with wood shawings floating inside, there seems to be something else too. Further inspection would reveal dryed-up body of pet mouse.

Electronic workout machine. By some miracle still retained enough batery to boot up. Friendly female voice that introduces itself by name will remind them it has been <large number> days since they last worked out and encourage them to getting in shape again. Some great ideas so far. Keep 'em coming.

- One stateroom, featuring a large exterior window with a view of a nearby moon, has an old turntable and vast collection of classical records, brought to the station a great expense shelved and neatly shelved. The record currently set on the player is Claude Debussy's Claire de Lune.

- Abandoned in the middle of a stateroom's living quarters is a cardboard box filled with home movies recorded on media contemporary to the station, showing its inhabitants happy and optimistic about their future in space during its first year of occupation.

-An old timey crossbow just floating around. No explanation

-Swimsuits and diving gear including masks, wetsuits, snorkels and airtanks with photos of people "swimming" around the station, possibly as a joke.

-A letter with macaroni art, seashells and glitter with "Come home soon Mommie" written in a childs hand

-200lbs of pirated anime dvd's, most of the labels have worn off from the sun from a nearby window.

A hydroponic farm which has become overgrown in the absence of crew to tend it, still being watered by the hyperefficient recycling systems. Vines and bushes and the like spill over, out into the aisles between trays, and one row is thick with mushrooms, some grown to massive size, each raining a tiny, dusty whisps of spores into microgravity with every clang of your boots against the floor, resulting in tiny enclaves of mushrooms sprouting up here and there in the mounds of rotten detritus where fruit has tumbled down over time from the overfull planters.

A naked corpse floating in mid air. I don't know how valid this is but I remember reading in Stanislaw Lem's Fiasco, that on a space ship they had a huge room with a swimming pool. If you were to swim naked and gravity happened to be turned off and someone where to throw you in the air just so you float in the middle of the room with no clothing to throw to create propulsion you'd just be stuck up there and die of thirst.

OP, does the station still have air?

If it does, or if part of it does, have a section full of mold. Highly dangerous mold. That's in the air vents.
That section of the station was used to study shit, and one of the experiments involved mold.
When the station was abandoned, some of the mold got out.
You could have it happen before the station was abandoned, and have the air vents jury rigged to stay sealed in that section so that way it won't get out.

I don't know.
Maybe something important is in the section with the mold and they have to expose themselves to it.

OP here. Yes, there is air. Zero/micro gravity, though. The original astronauts were on the station when a gamma ray burst hit the other side of the planet and wiped out most life. They evacuated and went down to the surface to try to save humanity with the few remaining survivors down there.

Essentially using the ISS as a reference point. No artificial gravity, no infinite energy or fabricators or anything obviously physics-defying. There are a few sci-fi things, like lots of moderately self-aware robots and some solar generators that are impossibly efficient.

- A computer working on a long-running study was never shut off and the study had no definitive end-date. The computer lab is now clogged with free-floating sheets of printed reports, or a snake of connected perforated pages. The paper and ink have long run out, but the printer continues to "print."

- The station's game room is now a minefield filled with a wide variety of children's toys ill-advised for zero-g: jacks, legos, building blocks, puzzle pieces, boardgames and the like.

Bonus Hardmode: If there is some sort of enemy present aboard the station with your heroes, make some of those toys electronic ones like Simon, Bop-It, or Furby, that will come to noisy life when their floating rest is disturbed by PCs or disturbed debris.

-They find a collection of notebooks and bags of dice for a pnp game. The character sheets and DM notes seem to almost describe the current party and their antics right up until them entering a section of the station just like this where they just stop.

-A big crate of simple experiments from a middleschool contest supported by Nasa.

-A Nasa space robot that appears to be deactivated but is never in the same place when found, and no one ever sees it move.

-The station is infested with roaches. They may have escaped from an old experiment and they've adapted well to microgravity and spread everywhere. And now they're on your ship as well. You'll never be rid of them.

-A sketchpad or whiteboard with detailed plans written out about tricking a ship into docking and stealing the ship while the crew is exploring the station. Wait, that sounded like the docking hatch..

Let's see if I can't get maximum paranoia

The first thing they notice are the cockroaches that survived. But even they need atmosphere. Something has to be producing it. The station is large and complex, and has long since been shut off, so the station isn't making the atmosphere. Further testing shows that the oxygen isn't enough to sustain life, and is mostly methane. Then they notice that there are intermittent gusts of warm air coming out of the ventilation shafts, in and out, in and out, like a large piston moving a volume of air.

But then they finally find that a strange and unidentifiable shell of an organic creature had been attached to the life support system, but was attached only a moment before.

Feeling carefully reveals that there is something moving through the station and causing tremors, but always running away from them. Always running and fleeing from them, until they finally corner it, and it opens an air lock to its own demise before they can see it.

Their ship has added mass to it when they try to leave

More than that, the pencil shavings are a menace. All debris in a spaceship or space station collects at the air filters; if you're using a pencil, that means you've got a load of extremely flammable kindling right next to your oxygen supply.
