The players have entered a space station that was abandoned in a hurry. Some personal effects were left behind, floating in the free fall. What do the players find?

I've got a few ideas, but a few more would be great.

>A folded up picture. Unfolding it, you can just make out two vague figures, perhaps a man and a woman. Time has obscured all other details.

>time has obscured all other details

Why are you assuming that chemical weathering occurs in a zero-G, non-atmospheric environment?
>>
>>27938758
How hard is the science? Was this a space station where astronauts conducted experiments, or was it people living in freefall, baking, raising kids, etc.?
>>
A bobble head of a figure in the style of some old B-Movie alien. Or the same thing but with a robot instead.

They board the Space Station, fuck around for a bit, then get back in their ship.

Player communicates with ship's computer
>Player: Computer check life support readings
>Computer: Negative.
>Player: Then what's the problem?
>Computer: Current life support status unsuitable for crew capacity
>Player: What? Has the life support been damaged?
>Computer: Current life support systems can only support up to four crew members.
>Player: But there are only four of us!
>Computer: Negative. Five crew members.

The remains of two men. One of which appears to be wearing a clown mask and wig, red and white jumpsuit and was likely using some kind of a bike horn to defend against the other corpse, a man in red and black wearing a helmet and jackboots. The man in red and black appears to have been trying to handcuff the clown. There are signs of struggle.

In the medbay there is a surgical table spattered with blood. Nearby is a similarly-bloodied scalpel, a tourniquet, an open and empty pack of clotting pellets, and a half-used roll of gauze. As you float between the globules and the log of shit, you come across a heavily used funnel. As you move on, you encounter a thick, brown string adhered to the side of the statio- no wait that's just shit. This explains what the funnel was used for.

No human has the power to blast shit from their ass at the speed to create a shit string. We're not alone on this ship.

what kind of ambiance do you want here, OP?

For slice-of-life:
>a pair of scissors.
>an empty plastic bag. The label says 'porterhouse steak'.
>a small ball of human hair, stuck to some tape.
>a roll of toilet paper.

For horror:
>a fingernail.
>one half of a pair of scissors. the blade is stained brown.
>an empty brass casing from a bullet.
>an eyeball. it is completely dried up, and the optic nerve resembles string.

For comedy:
>toilet paper, the roll slowly unfurling all over the station.
>a very confused cat.
>a pocket protector containing two pens. One is clearly a very expensive model, with the label 'space pen! works in zero-g' on the side, while the other is a normal ballpoint pen. Both pens have ink in them, and work perfectly in the microgravity environment.
>a can of silly string. it is tethered to a nearby wall by a long string of...twine.
>>

OP here. Do you expect my players to believe that anyone would leave behind a fingerbox? Let's try to keep the suggestions within the realm of possibility.

Going for sad, really. Not overstated, but I want the players to be feeling melancholic while they go about their business (essentially scrapping the station for parts). And incidentally it's known why the people all evacuated in a hurry.

If the station once had children on it,
>abandoned toys in what appears to be a nursery; the batteries have long died out in any that once used them
>crudely drawn pictures hanging from walls; crayons, pencil crayons, and markers are scattered around the area.
>a shelf of movies or other era-appropriate media half-filled -- or is it half emptied? At it's base is a cardboard box also half-filled with movies, some of which the players recognize.

Also, assuming the inhabitants had culture of some sort, leaving behind half-abandoned items that tell of it helps add to the atmosphere.

The human equivalent would be a half-eaten Thanksgiving dinner, or a Christmas tree unfurled, but with all it's lights dead and the ornaments drifting lazily in zero g.

Full blown holes in the side of the ship, but when you look through them you dont see space, you see somewhere else. Like maybe more space station. Or a deserted town.

- One of the interior, windowless rooms on the station is revealed to be pitch-black when the bulkhead doors are opened. The empty space seems to eat up the beams of the salvage crew's flashlights. When the light switch is found, old, faded decorations and deflated balloons indicate that the room had been the scene of a surprise party.

- The escape pods or shuttle are long gone, and the corridors leading to them are choked with extraneous containers and loose items, toys and books and clothing. Most of it is run-of-the-mill, but some of it looks valuable or very personal. Posted on the walls nearby are hastily composed paper notices that each family is only allowed to bring XX(X) pounds of personal affects aboard the departing craft.

I don't think this would work without gravity; the turntable arm would slide up out of the groove and off the record.

People really can't get over what is referred to as the slasher ending. I had a very different impression of it but whatever.

A naked corpse floating in mid air. I don't know how valid this is but I remember reading in Stanislaw Lem's Fiasco, that on a space ship they had a huge room with a swimming pool. If you were to swim naked and gravity happened to be turned off and someone where to throw you in the air just so you float in the middle of the room with no clothing to throw to create propulsion you'd just be stuck up there and die of thirst.
Might be total bullshit of course.

OP, does the station still have air?

If it does, or if part of it does, have a section full of mold. Highly dangerous mold. That's in the air vents.
That section of the station was used to study shit, and one of the experiments involved mold.
When the station was abandoned, some of the mold got out.
You could have it happen before the station was abandoned, and have the air vents jury rigged to stay sealed in that section so that way it won't get out.

I don't know.
Maybe something important is in the section with the mold and they have to expose themselves to it.
>>
>>27953298
OP here. Yes, there is air. Zero/micro gravity, though. The original astronauts were on the station when a gamma ray burst hit the other side of the planet and wiped out most life. They evacuated and went down to the surface to try to save humanity with the few remaining survivors down there.

Spoiler alert: They failed.

Because there's really only the ISS.
And maybe Ching-Chong 1, if that counts.
>>
>>27955566
Essentially using the ISS as a reference point. No artificial gravity, no infinite energy or fabricators or anything obviously physics-defying. There are a few sci-fi things, like lots of moderately self-aware robots and some solar generators that are impossibly efficient.

- A computer working on a long-running study was never shut off and the study had no definitive end-date. The computer lab is now clogged with free-floating sheets of printed reports, or a snake of connected perforated pages. The paper and ink have long run out, but the printer continues to "print."

- The station's game room is now a minefield filled with a wide variety of children's toys ill-advised for zero-g: jacks, legos, building blocks, puzzle pieces, boardgames and the like.

Bonus Hardmode: If there is some sort of enemy present aboard the station with your heroes, make some of those toys electronic ones like Simon, Bop-It, or Furby, that will come to noisy life when their floating rest is disturbed by PCs or disturbed debris.

-A big crate of simple experiments from a middleschool contest supported by Nasa.

-A Nasa space robot that appears to be deactivated but is never in the same place when found, and no one ever sees it move.

-The station is infested with roaches. They may have escaped from an old experiment and they've adapted well to microgravity and spread everywhere. And now they're on your ship as well. You'll never be rid of them.

-A sketchpad or whiteboard with detailed plans written out about tricking a ship into docking and stealing the ship while the crew is exploring the station. Wait, that sounded like the docking hatch..
>>
Let's see if I can't get maximum paranoia

The first thing they notice are the cockroaches that survived. But even they need atmosphere. Something has to be producing it. The station is large and complex, and has long since been shut off, so the station isn't making the atmosphere. Further testing shows that the oxygen isn't enough to sustain life, and is mostly methane. Then they notice that there are intermittent gusts of warm air coming out of the ventilation shafts, in and out, in and out, like a large piston moving a volume of air.

But then they finally find that a strange and unidentifiable shell of an organic creature had been attached to the life support system, but was attached only a moment before.

Feeling carefully reveals that there is something moving through the station and causing tremors, but always running away from them. Always running and fleeing from them, until they finally corner it, and it opens an air lock to its own demise before they can see it.

Their ship has added mass to it when they try to leave
>>

The added weight is just cockroaches

The creature destroyed the life support system of one of their nearby allies and fled again
