This means that every hundred meters or so along the ridge line, McCain has been driving six foot stakes into the ground while you mark out the spot for the next one after double and triple checking your bearing with the rough map that outlined the rough edges of your property. It was a fairly simple, if tedious, task and you feel slightly disappointed that you did not find anything when you rounded the rear part of the valley. One point of curiosity however, is that it appears that the River must end on your land, as it does not appear to have an entrance point you've seen. You shiver visibly as you remember the large glacial run off that seeped down the rear eastern side of the valley, gladly expending some of the heating charms you purchase to battle the bitter cold.

"Well miss," McCain says while facing away from you. "From the rustling of those blankets I'd say you are up. Get some food in you and take a look at what I found." You slither towards the fire, trying to resist basking in the dry heat as he turns to look at you, "Look down and to the right and tell me what you see." You follow where he is pointing and see a familiar arrangement of buildings.

"Home." You say with a smile.

"Indeed, now lets finish off marking the property line and we'll get out of these highlands." He drawls, grabbing more of the sticks and untying Greenbriar's lead, "I've had about enough of the chilly nights for a few days."

After eating a oddly tasting breakfast(McCain by his own admission is not a great cook, but its still edible.) it only takes you a bit of time to mark off the property before you tie in with the ranch lands. A short while later you are opening the door to the house and placing your pack in your room. As you come out, McCain is sitting in the foyer maintaining his revolver and rifle. "So what's the plan now Miss Masterson? If you're gonna get back in the cattle business, we've got a few days before we need to get to Riverport and get some new stock. Sooner we get there the better stuff we have. If we miss it now it'll be a year or so 'till the market opens up again, I mean we could talk to the other ranchers about buyin' cattle but that'd be more trouble than its worth in my opinion."

Depends on the seller. Riverport is the big seller town all the ranches on the southern continent head to, and that can range anywhere from 10 to 20 a head for quality cattle. UFK proper is where the big money on beef comes from and where it is the most expensive. (Sailing barges can mark up the cattle upwards of 50-60 a head.)

Won't be anything close to one of the bigger name ranches for a few years unless we find a way to get more than thirty five hundred head."

Some quick mental math tells you, that even at the cheapest, best you can do with your remaining funds is a thousand, with nothing left over in case of an emergency. Putting that idea on the backburner, you think of how to go about exploring the property."

McCain nods and heads out, presumably to swap horses as Greenbriar has been with you in the highlands the whole time you were marking your territory as it were.

You restock on some supplies, while keeping the small cartography kit in your pack, you opt to leave behind the heavier surveying equipment, as there is no way you can do any serious note taking on the course of the river in the time you have left today. As you head out of the house, you see McCain saddling up Traveller and before long you are off. Following the meandering course of the river into the woodlands. You note how broad but relatively shallow the river is here, and ever so often you take soundings of depth, noticing it seems to get deeper the further in you go. After a short while you encounter a slight rock face and a miniature waterfall, though you note that despite the increasing elevation, the water appears to be increasing in tempurature ever so slightly. at first you attribute it to acclimation to the cold, but the further you go, see off in the distance, a mass of steam. Heading towards it yields a tributary feeding into the river proper, terminating at a larger body of water full of what is, for all intents and purposes, a hot spring.

You keep close to McCain as he takes another step forward. It is hear you hear a whipping of rope and the both of you rise into the air. A massive net, laid into the ground rises out of the sand encompassing the both of you as it closes. You twist around inside the net, unable to find purchase unil you find yourself face to face with MccCain, looking obviously unvofortable as your tail presses the side of his face into the heavily woven threads.

okay, going to sleep, going to put my ranching suggestions up in case the thing restarts before I'm back.

Chemlab said we could buy cheap cows for 10 isens a head, but we sold our own for 25 isens a head. I would suggest that, since we are already getting too few cattle to run a proper meat operation, we buy instead a fewer number of higher quality cattle and run a dairy operation. 200 25 Isen cattle would cost 5,000 Isens, and leave us 5,000 more for farmhands, finding a prize bull, stocking up on hay or hay seed, building materials for whatever we decide to make on our land, and if we have any left over for luxury, maybe a flock of chickens so the farmhands and us can have eggs every morning. That'd be a nice luxury.
