After that the choices are bit more specialized- you ask Roy, and Akebi volunteers to come along with him. Finally there's Rose- perhaps along with Miho one of the few people who has your full confidence and trust on this ship.

Seven people should be plenty for a short expedition- And, your team assembled and provisions apportioned, your group heads out. As your group walks along the path heading towards the nearest entrance to the Underground, Miho explains the plans. "We're going to pair up and search in different directions. Try to stick to the main corridors and rooms and don't side-track around... We don't want anyone else getting lost down there." She checks a notebook she'd been scribbling in for a few minutes. "Here's the teams: Saori and Richard you head foreward along corridor 542-AB, Hana and Rose- aft along 542AB. Roy, Akebi? You're going to head towards the starboard side along 1027-LN, which leaves myself and Russells going port along 1027-LN."

You clear your throat, turning around to walk backwards as you speak. "If anyone gets lost, just head in one direction until you get to 1027 or 542 and you'll can find your way back to the intersection..." People nods in understanding.

You're feeling pretty good about your contribution to Miho's leadership when you plow into someone as you turn back around. "You're planning to go below decks?!" Sono Midoriko of the Oorai Public Morals Committee. "You aren't allowed down there! It's against School Regulations!"

You blink, opening your mouth to say something. You close it and look at Richard and Roy, who are just as scared looking. Seeing Miho casually order the kidnapping of, granted, someone with very little official authority, but authority nonetheless... Yeah, you don't think it'd be a good idea for you to get on Miho's bad side. Ever.

It's a short walk to the passage belowdecks from here, but Sono's repeated insistance that everything you're doing is against regulations mostly goes ignored. What do we do with her, anyway?

The essential problem of the original Churchill AVRE was the range: 70-80 meters is simply not enough. Therefore, the British came with a stunning idea to create a huge recoilless gun and fit it into the AVRE turret – the goal was to fling as much explosives in one shot on as long a distance as possible, without destroying the shooting tank in the process, preferably without having to load it from the front.

Of course, to fling such a shell so far, you need some serious charge. A LOT of gunpowder – much more than the gun would normally allow. The British engineers actually invented a pretty strange solution. In order to improve the gun recoilless effect, they did put a sort of “counterweight” behind the charge itself (a package of sand allegedly). When the gun shot, this charge was propelled violently to the back (away from the turret), compensating for the majority of recoil, bringing the amount of charge needed to more manageable quantitites. Needless to say, this was NOT a popular solution with the crew.

Another problem was that if there was some infantry advancing behind the tank or – heaven forbid – taking cover behind the turret on the hull, having a bag of sand fly from the back of the turret followed by a recoilless gun blast was not exactly healthy for them. The blast was also very long, so the tank was probably more dangerous to the friendly infantry than to the enemy one. They tried to solve it by installing some sort of blast collector on the back of the turret (so the blast was directed upwards), but for some reason it didn’t work.

She's mostly stopped complaining now, and seems resigned to the fact that she's going to help find Yukari- the fact that Hana has been encouraging her and complimenting her on how brave she is to come with them seems to be helping a lot, too.

Miho nods, looking at you. "Neither of us know the ship as well as he- everyone else has somebody who grew up here with them." She says. "Midoriko has at least got a passing knowledge of how things work down there..." She's right- but you're still a bit disappointed. You were sort of looking forward to a bit of alone time with the Panzer IV's commander.

Of course, as is generally the case with Japan, the entrance isn't locked allowing your group to descend down a fairly steep set of stairs until you reach the next level down- from the looks of things this is access level for the ship's sewers and utilities- it's another three or four levels down before you actually get to the storage levels where you originally found the M3 Lee.

As you reach the intersection where the stairs meet the two intersecting hallways you'll be searching you finally call out. "Sono, you're with me and Miho!" You smile. "Neither of us know much about the ship, so we need a guide!"

"F-fine!" Midoriko says. "At least I can keep an eye on you!" With that the groups seperate down their own halls.

The two terms are not mutually exclusive.

Of course, your first instinct is to just wander around looking for Yukari through all the side rooms and hatches, but the last thing you need is to get yourself lost as well. So you're going to stick with the plan- stay long the main corridor, search only adjacent rooms and hallways. Of course that won't give near enough coverage- "YUKARI!" You shout, cupping your hands to your mouth. "YUKARI!" You repeat, this time down a side hallway- the sound echoes down the steel hallways.

"You shouldn't shout so loud." Midoriko says, annoyed. "You might damage your hearing down here! She wouldn't be down that hallway anyway- it leads to sewage treatment..."

You shrug. "So then where would she be?" Miho askes the stern looking girl. She grabs the map of the level from your hand. "If it's Miss Akiyama, she's looking for tanks, right?" You and Miho nod- Yukari's reputation precedes her. "Well, then we're going to want to head this way and take a left- that's where all the long-term storage is."

You blink. "Long term storage?"

Midoriko nods. "Anything that can't be easily brought to us- large replacement parts and equipment that is only rarely needed..." She explains.

"...Or lost tanks?" Miho says, completing the thought.

You sigh and read off the labels outside each large door. Most are described with a cryptic series of letters and numbers, though a few are more descriptive.

"Tractors and equipment..." You read out loud before turning back to look at Miho. "Yeah, if Yukari's going to be anywhere its in here..." You say confidently, sliding the door open. A strong, dusty smell eminates immediately from the storage room beyond- it's obvious this place hasn't been touched in years. But beneith everything is the unmistakable scent of engine great, oil and gasoline.

You brush off the light switch next to the door and turn it on as Miho and Midoriko enter behind you- rows of flourescent lights flicker to life along the ceiling, revealing a large room, neatly filled with pallets, each with some manner of small vehical on it- golf carts, Bobcats, forklifts, and more. Each neatly wrapped in plastic to weather the years of storage. "Yukari?" You say, not quite as loud- the name echos across the large room anyway.

"I don't see any tanks..." Miho says. "I don't think Yukari would've stuck around without a reason..." She sighs disappointedly. You have to agree with her- if Yukari is down here somewhere looking for tanks she probably wouldn't stick around to look at ride-on lawnmowers.

As you lean against the door, as disappointed as Miho, Midoriko let's out a yelp. You look over at her- she's opened a door nearly at the rear of the room. "T-that is not supposed to be there! It's against regulations!" She stammers. Miho moves through the smaller tractors towards the now open door and makes it there before you.

"How the..." She says, obviously flabbergasted. "How did they fit *THAT* back there?"
