For House & Dominion: Ballroom Edition Quest

http://houseanddominion.wikia.com/wiki/HouseAndDominion_Wiki
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=House%20and%20Dominion

You are Sonia Reynard, Attack Wing Leader and Knight of the House of Jerik-Dremine! When you were still out on the front lines you command the Third Attack Wing, one of the elite units of the House, composed of fast hard hitting Cruisers, Frigates and a few remaining Corvettes.

You've fought Pirates, slavers, madmen and peoples from more than a half dozen species. Going from piloting an outdated corvette so outclassed you barely survived your first five missions, to commanding some of the most advanced ships in your House. Where once you were the daughter of a middle class merchant struggling to get by, you're now rich enough that you've bought starships, Factories and started your own company.

Your success has not been without hardship however. You've nearly lost count of the number of times you've been shot or stabbed on boarding missions, and recently your right arm was burned off near the shoulder necessitating a cybernetic replacement.

You are currently on the Estate grounds of the Dremine family who once ruled their own House. The family still holds a great deal of power both politically and financially, and their council holds great sway over Earl Gernot Sigurd Jerik. There are as many Dro'all Knights and Nobles present for this ball as there are human.

Arriving at the weapons check in you're told that due to the events of last year you dont have to hand over your sidearm. You just need to follow one simple rule: Carry the magazine seperately from the weapon. With the choice between a 1.5 second delay in firing your plasma pistol or not having it at all your response is predictable.

Stepping past the check-in you examine your cybernetic limb. There was certainly enough time to switch them out before arriving.

Also, really sorry about the wrong day/date on the wiki. I hope not too many people were waiting around yesterday.

You decided to take something a bit more normal looking for the ball so as to not freak out a large number of powerful people at the same time. That could go badly, you don't want the other Nobles thinking you're completely crazy just crazy enough. With the cybernetics entirely hidden and the skin tone and texture matched to the rest of your body anyone who doesn't know will be in for a surprise if they try to squeeze too hard. After all, there's always that one guy in a crowd that seems to be trying to crush all the bones in your hand when shaking.

Two can play at that game.

But enough distractions, heading out into the hall being used you scan the crowd for people you know. The half dozen Barons present are for the most part sticking together, discussing things with a pair of Admirals.

You eventually spot Alex who is dressed as the son of a noble, lacking most of his medals, ribbons and wearing far more muted tones. Still he's sporting his family crest on his arm denoting his status as a Knight. You've read about this, its a social custom for the hosts to not show up the guests. While his family might not be the planetary governor themselves they did organise everything.

Off in one area you see Knight Lieutenant, no make that Knight Captain Dayton, talking with a few nobles. Captain Sylvan is around somewhere as well.

Some of your Knights have yet to arrive but a few of them are present. With so many nobles already here its going to getting crowded in awhile.

Is there anyone you wanted to talk to?

ACTION!

Soon enough Sonia and her entourage are going to be barred from ballroom parties. Whenever they are somewhere stuff like this happens.
>>
You notice that several of the Knights who returned with the fleet seem to have less of the nobles hanging near them. On closer inspection it's a lot less, and a few nobles are actively avoiding them all together. What the... oh, now you get it. They're all people promoted from the lower class, mostly by Winifred, Captain Saputo or yourself, though a few were Knighted by the Earl a month ago.
They must not care for "New money," especially when they've come up from the very bottom.

When you run into Alex he's looking a bit nervous. Not as bad as when you first arrived in South Reach mind you.
"What's wrong?"

"Mostly family stuff. I feel like there's a giant target painted on my back now that I'm a more credible threat to my siblings for the family fortune."

"You think they'd try to off you?" you ask.

Alex grimaces at your crude way of putting it. "My eldest brother maybe, but he would be the first suspicion would fall on. Really there's just as many threats from the other nobles. If everything here goes well my family will get a big boost to their reputation which makes us more popular and by extension a bigger threat to those wanting the favour of the House leadership."

I mean the others seem to be a bit ostracized. I cant judge about myself be cause of the personal touch regarding parties since I was a kid so perception regarding myself is way out of bounds.

Still if you want it to go bad or good say how and I'll try my best to help. I could get the newly minted tin cans (Knights, get it?) outside for a fresh breather and some smokes , might make for a better atmosphere for all sides, and anyone left may be able to fly under the radar.

"Well, do ask if you need help. You've always had my back when I got us into insane stuff, after all." you tell him.

"Thank you. I hope it wont be necessary but expect to get that call on short notice. I've been keeping up my time on the weapons range but I'm still better with a blade than I am with a gun."

"Hey, if success and danger is a problem you can have me and the old crew wreck this party something fierce."

"Please, please don't say that Sonia. Ever."

"If you say so. Still if you want it to go bad or good say how and I'll try my best to help. The others seem to be a bit ostracized so I'm sure it wouldn't take much convincing to get them aboard."

Alex glances around to be sure nobody overheard you then rapidly tries to change the subject. "Hey how was that party you were having out at your property?"

[Flashback]
[Mid January 4025]

It took a couple of trips to stock the lodge with food and drink for the party but when the shuttle arrives with your people aboard you think the place is ready.

There are +30 Knights in 3rd Wing and a few other pilots you've known from the formation of the wing that haven't been promoted. And lastly there are the veteran Marines. That's a lot of people! You're not sure this place will fit everyone unless you brought a few picnic benches for outside.
>How many people did you invite?
>What kind of party did you have?
>>
>>28248134
All our old friends, especially including the person who certainly isn't the wing commander's daughter.
>>
>>28248134
We know the tastes of our comrades, da?

If so its going to be most likely a outdoor grill with the lodge used for sleeping and accommodation of all the people. A Two or three day long outdoor grill and fun vacation and unwinding.

We have to have a lake nearby for some swimming, and with good weather and some umbrellas it should have gone swimmingly. Also enough time to get at least one or two personal one on one conversation with all the guests.

Sonia is a most gregarious Host.

Also getting them to feel good and in the company of one another eve after the war is good to cure any PTSD and also good for forming the proto stages of our social club if we want to go that way.
>>
>>28248254
And a lot of good music, bitching audio system, quality and above all quantity booze and a locked armory, when people are drunk. We are dangerous enough when drunk. No need to go about tempting fate.

No other suggestions on how to throw the event?

Mine is a bit on the familiar non formal style more on comfort, fun and a wee bit of primal excess on the food, drink and music department.

I mean it's pretty removed from the ballroom thing.

Anyone else have another option or any extra suggestions?
>>
>>28248342
Honestly, we should just make sure we and everyone else have an enjoyable time out in the woods with us. Making friends with all of them will be a good way to ensure a good political foundation once the new military elite starts to play at it.

Also making friends with the knight who totally isent the Barons daughter is a good thing. If we can become good friends with her we have a way to hold of the Baron should she ever decide we are an enemy.
>>
>At how many parties were we involved previously, in the aftermath or during said thing in a bloody fight or some other kind of scandal?
Uh, you mean since you joined the military?
There was the Loran II Ball, the Lat'tham space one, and the sort of ball that took place after the fleet returned home but that was only for a few hours.

>Let me guess we find people making way for us and giving us the full attention when we barge like a lumbering tank for a conversation, as well as looking away really fast if we catch them with a stare a positive thing.
You could do so if you wanted, but you did recieve some training in how to conduct yourself at events like this before you were Knighted, and a bit more after.

>I mean our sister may be just as insane and aggressive but we seem to have a knack for doing it in the spotlight, and go for terror tactics in the social circles?

Oh, now that we are a Knight i am certain we milk that training for all its worth, but considering my imagined history emotionally i don't think Sonia invests any value at all in if a party goes well or not for her from a social standpoint and only cares if she can check all her markers, obtain what she wants and feel good in the process. At least that is my read on her.

You give old man Petras plenty of warning about the upcoming party and he gives you a rundown about potential problems. Mostly that you dont want people wandering off into the woods and getting lost since it would be easy for people to lose their sense of direction. There shouldn't be any problems with the local wildlife since the noise of any party should cause them to stay away.

There aren't any lakes nearby, or at least not within the distance of a short walk, so you bring in an inflatable pool which can be removed later. Swimming is a go.

When the shuttle arrives and the guests begin to unload you give them the news that if they want to get drunk they need to put their weapons in the armory. There are a few weak protests due to some lingering feelings from the Lat'tham Coup, but if you can get over it for this party so can they.

All your old wingmen and pilots from 2nd squadron are there and a few more of your Knights besides. Alex and Verilis were both unable to attend due to family.

The music is cranked up and the drinks are handed out. The interior of the Lodge is where the music is playing, with the benches outside for those who want to enjoy the outdoors without being disturbed by the noise as much.

You make your rounds, trying to talk to everyone for a bit and seeing if they're enjoying themselves. It's a bit on the chaotic side with people sticking to different areas, either the Kitchen/Bar, the Living room/dance floor or the benches and the pool.

Its a little difficult hanging out with some of the pilots who are more used to interacting with you as their CO. As the party drags on though that's less of a problem with even the more uptight people in the unit relaxing a bit.

There are a few mishaps with people getting in and out of the pool because of being slightly drunk but no serious injuries. You're generally enjoying yourself and most of the others seem to be as well.

Then you overhear someone shouting that they want to do a mock duel.

There are holographic swords that would cause injury roughly equivalent to a stun shot if you take a direct hit.

Yes. They're practice weapons you bought since your sister apparently lost hers.

Well if they are new knights it might get it out of their system if they are drunk and have a really bad hangover with the stun injury to compound that.

Reluctantly you give both of them the go ahead but ask if they would sober up a bit first. Maybe they'll change their minds. Meanwhile you head inside and retrieve the holoswords from the weapons locker, securing it behind you.

"I sure hope you two will be happy once this is over and done with." you check their blood alcohol levels and once its dropped enough you hand over the weapons.

"So you two want a clean fight? Fine then, no punching or kicking and watch your footing on the rocks, some of them are cracked and you could trip on them."

You decide not to take any bets but everyone inside makes sure to step out to watch the duel.

Though you've never seen either of them fight outside of a ship before one of Mike's pilots, Amjad, seems to be capable enough with a blade. Kird Oron, a Dro'all who captains one of the few remaining Clarent class ships is a step above him though. Not even half a minute into the duel Amjad screws up what was supposed to be a quick jab. For his trouble Oron slashes his opponents extended wrist then with the back swing hits him in the chest.

The human pilot slumps to the ground defeated.

"That was over quick." Comments Arthur. "Looks like I'm not the only one who needs to stop underestimating Dro'all fighting skills."

Mike heads over to help his pilot back over to a picnic bench.

>[End flashback]
After you finish retelling what happened Alex thinks for a moment.
"I wonder If I should offer to give the newer Knights some fencing practice. I should have plenty of free time after this ball."
Before you can answer someone calls for Alex to come over.
"Sorry, duty calls."

Looking around you see Baron Winifred isn't too busy at the moment, there are still plenty of your Knights around.
You spot Lord Do'orla Epyn, landlord of the area Mike's family lives. She's been tricky to get hold of.
There are a few Dro'all Nobles you think are the primary owners of DHI. Checking the doors it seems they've let the local reps from GE and Aries in again, though they've both tried to dress a bit more sharply this time to better blend in.
There are others around as well if you want to talk to someone else.

Just a thought, but if the "New Blood" nobles are being ostracized, its probably reinforcing their group identity, a group identity that we are already naturally positioned to be the leader of. Plus, we are "more respectable" than the people elevated from the lower class, so we can act as a kind of bridge or spokesman for our fellow pilots. Which will just so happen to make us the leader of a minor "faction" in house politics.

"You must be Knight Captain Reynard." Says one of the Nobles after you approach and greet them. Most of them are Dro'all though a few are Human. One of men bears a strong resemblance to Alex, probably his father?
"We really must thank you for securing that manufacturing site and equipment in the Pandora Cluster. It couldn't have come at a better time."

"Is the company expanding that fast?" you ask.

This draws a few good natured laughs. "Not as such."
"The Ruling House has nationalised the shipyards at Gesaur." explains Alex's father. "The company has just finished the process of handing over control to the Royal Drive Yards. It's taken place slowly over the past few months to keep production from being disrupted."

You dont remember seeing the share price drop at all. "What's that doing to the company?"

"Not much actually." replies the elder Palaiologos before the various other Lords resume.
"Thanks to the various bases the House has established through the Smugglers Run and South Reach we've been able to maintan elevated production of parts and equipment, much of which we're able to sell back to other Houses who are also utilising the newer corvette designs."

"Once the Yard in the Pandora Cluster reaches full operation we'll almost be printing money!"
"Yes, its a shame we'll have to sell so many of them at cost to the PCCG Militia but we've been in worse situations."

>selling ships at cost to PCCG Militia
>moor management stab

Is that a jab at us for the agreement we set up?

Perhaps they're not considering the ships to the PCCG Militia as a form of investment in the local security force's interest. If they're getting ships from us, they're more likely to both keep us in the loop and ensure that our operation runs smoothly.

>and then salvage company comes up again, because is sonia's baby

Did we finalize and purchase that damaged Molly and 2 Y-types?

And perhaps one of these gentlemen would be so kind as to help us with a question that has been lingering in my mind... I assume salvage is in some way used by companies like DHI, even older stuff from graveyards? We know drive plates are rising in cost, but do salvage operations contribute anything to the wider DHI manufacturing? Reclamation of materials from reactors, perhaps? Or have they heard of anything interesting coming of the Neeran ship 'scrap' being recovered?
>>
[Flashback]
[Mid January 4025]

The factory tour you decided to go on was informative. The plant you visited was responsible for manufacturing parts for Fusion reactors which were then either shipped into orbital and assembled there, or completed on the surface for use with the planet's power grid. Nothing too dangerous all things considered since none of them were test activated until they had reached secured sites.

Most of the tour passed through the offices and sealed corridors that were secured to the walls and ceiling of the factory building where they were out of the way of the machinery below. You asked if it was possible to see the manufacturing equipment up close but only employees in clean suits were allowed onto the factory floor.

Looking closely at the few people visible you made out that they were wearing far more than just clean suits, it looked more like they had radiation shielding on underneath. That shouldn't be necessary if they were building new reactors here. It would only be needed if some of the parts were used.

Each level of the office sections had lifts and emergency stairwells in four places in addition to evacuation chutes that drop down to subterranean bunkers in the event of an emergency.
Security is mostly concentrated on the gates and an outer wall made of concrete about 12m high that surrounded the property. The gates are fortified with anti-air particle beams that can depress to target ground vehicles. You suspect there is a missile battery on site. Motion trackers, IR and other sensor systems guard the site. Should be easy enough for you to get in if you wanted to.

Agathon Colquhoun's mansion has considerably less in the way of active security measures, though there are plenty of sensors and alarms. The hardest part would be just getting inside. The doors are very secure and it sends a signal each time they're opened. You would have to enter with someone or hack the door security which you're not confident you could do.

That was the point I was trying to make the last thread.

Well its not like she could actually pull it off without damage to her title as baron. We as a Knight however can organize them in some kind of fashion, preferably from the other wings too, wit their more senior members as other heads, but with us as a center, since we are quite a number it should become a minor faction and if said faction happens to support Winifred then that is just a happy coincidence for Winifred while she can swim in other waters without the stigma.

One could perhaps tie some servicing and replacement parts agreement on that sale to be exclusive by DHI. Considering their situation (they are close to the front, yes? I cant remember) depending on how long it lasts they will have to get a lot of it.

Also now that we are spread really wide we could tie DHI repair and parts replacements at a discount for everyone using JD planet/system connecting routes, of course having on stock only DHI replacements and products for the repair which have to be bought, only the manpower being at a discount.

It would be a costly campaign but one that might ensure DHI is taken seriously along various long range travelers and give DHI higher visibility on parts and other systems. The more people know of DHI as a trustworthy reliable supplier the more likely is to get customers?
At least that would be my impression.

Of course I am jut a minor stockholder, so I thrust the very well paid managers, marketing experts and finical officers know their stuff better than me. What do I know? I am just a Wing Commander flying around in space and blowing stuff up and lowering property values considerably.

Although he seems to not like the attention. Not any kind of attention, for some reason. He just wants to play his part. Disturbing.

>servicing and replacement parts tie in.

Well we were only verbally agreeing to stuff so this might be worked into the warranty, once the paper is signed. That will be done when the thing is online , right? so that could be done.

Even perhaps going so far as to do it for the entire Militia fleet and not only DHI products, this one of course as a separate deal.

They are close to the Shallan front, and if the Neran are held there, then any such deal would give us the entry fees with just enough damage done to them by stragglers from the neeran, that oer enough panick into the local government to ensure another contract for repair and servicing with DHI is closed or expanded upon. It is a bit of a gamble but the only true loss is if the Neeran break through Shallan space and are held in Pandora. DHI wins if Neeran are held or pushed out of Shallan space or manage to over run Pandora completely (Not needing to redeem a majority of their contract due to either the Millitia being over run or not being on the front lines.)

"Well as long as the PCCG Militia is getting ships from us, they're more likely to both keep us in the loop and ensure that our operation runs smoothly." You point out when things come back to talk of the new shipyard.

"I suppose you are right Captain, and it means not having to man them ourselves."

>Did we finalize and purchase that damaged Molly and 2 Y-types?
Yes

>do salvage operations contribute anything to the wider DHI manufacturing?
Not so much. Most of the time the House military has been running the salvage operations and recovered equipment has gone into replenishing the reserves used to repair ships. DHI does do refurbishing work on reactors but it isn't worth as much to them as someone buying new ones. If it weren't for the fact that for most of the campaign their manufacturing capacity couldn't keep up with demand the use of salvaged reactors and engines would have been seriously hurting their bottom line.

DHI doesn't work directly on salvaged ships, the House shipyards do.

>Or have they heard of anything interesting coming of the Neeran ship 'scrap' being recovered?
There's a big joint research program going on that should produce results in the way of new engine upgrades. They don't know when though.

>One could perhaps tie some servicing and replacement parts agreement on that sale to be exclusive by DHI. Considering their situation (they are close to the front, yes?
Yes they are close to the front. If the Neeran launched an attack from Shallan space they could be there in a week.

You suggest expanding the orbital station and using it as a hub for cheap ship repairs to people passing through the area. The plan to set up a DHI repair and parts replacement contract with the Militia is also mentioned.

"We've been discussing an arrangement at length with the PCCG but our parts are largely compatible with certain GE models. Its making things more difficult. The idea for a local repair station might be worth looking in to."
"Panda bears do not like Dominion very much." Says one of the older Dro'all in a broken accent. "More difficult environment for growth."

"Well what do I know? I am just a Wing Commander flying around in space and blowing stuff up and lowering property values considerably." you point out.

"Yes, a few of us have noticed that."
"Its unfortunate we weren't able to take more advantage of the damage done in Operation Typhoon. We just weren't in a position to capture any of the planets in the region."
"The House would have been overextended."
"We're already overextended, what's a little more?"

One of the better dressed Lords present raises a hand for silence. "Back to the topic at hand. Our company should be able to produce newer corvette designs at the new shipyard that can compete with Newport Fleet Systems and GE as long as this contract with the PCCG lasts." The Lord turns to you.
"Captain, what do you know of the House Kharbos Master Rearmarment Plan? They're proposing it as an alternative to the fleet modernisation the Ruling House is pushing for, at least for the moment."

>[x] Intercept on the road

probably our best bet, and keeps DHI from having a workplace incident.

I also had a thought for Mike's brother, based on a friend's run-in with the law.

It might be worth offering the court/judge yet another option, one that protects the brother from gang reprisals and gets the kid completely out of the area he caused trouble in.

He takes a low-ranked job at Sonia's Salvage. He learns a skill to contribute to the House, Dominion, and society. Court can assign a deputy or vett one of our ship Captains/foremen as a 'parole officer'. Court/Police collect a fee/% of his pay. He voluntarily has one of those limited slave chips that indentured servants were once mentioned getting, to be removed at the end of his probation. The kid is removed completely from the area he caused problems in.

It gives the judge a third option, and likely one that wouldn't be viewed as 'too soft', and possibly a middle ground between prison and what may be seen as an 'overly lenient' house arrest option.

>House Kharbos Master Rearmarment Plan

Wait.....wait a god dam minute here.
House Kharbos as in the house that started those experiment with the scarabs & slave chip and had plans to take over the ruling house is their plan succeeded. THAT House Kharbos?

Say something like "I haven't heard about that plan yet, but I have already had to deal with their plans before."
>>
"Wait, House Kharbos? I haven't heard about that plan yet, but I have already had to deal with their plans before."

"Of that we know all too well. The Master Rearmament Plan was what House Kharbos was building and developing towards with its Mark II Scarab lines on Gesaur. The newer attack ships were to be part of a series of upgrades that would give old ship hulls a new lease on life and bulk up their fleet. Several of their allies were also in on it."

"Just as well that the Pirates threw a wrench into it I say!" Adds another.

"The smaller capacitor banks and other equipment would allow an old standard corvette to be upgraded into an Attack Corvette in a matter of days, only it would be smaller and mass less presumably giving it better performance. Just think, most Houses have hundreds if not thousands of older corvettes in reserve that could be upgraded like this."

"The problem is that we need to start scrapping some of the older ships to pay for the construction of the new Assault Corvette and Cruiser designs." Points out an Admiral who approaches the group.

"Indeed that does seem to be the dilemma Admiral Graham." replies one of the assembled Lords.

Seeing that you still haven't been filled in on everything the admiral continues. "The Ruling House wants to modernise the fleet. Newer corvette designs that can make use of SP torpedo stockpiles, new attack cruisers, smaller escort carriers to work with corvette groups, and tougher more heavily defended regular carriers."

"Both plans call for the same Carrier design upgrade."

"Yes and all of it could be obsolete the moment we've finished reverse engineering the Neeran engine and weapon systems."

You ask for some of the design specs from the House Kharbos ships since you've seen both of the modern replacement vessels. The standard corvette upgrade is much the same as advertised but old Frigate hulls would need a lot more work to upgrade them to the Smuggler version your people have started using.

Instead of simpley replacing the systems on the Frigates they've gone a step farther, grafting on a pair of corvette hulls and turning it into an attack cruiser, complete with extra torpedo launchers and Spinal mount heavy pulse cannons. The attached corvettes retain their twin linked phase cannon making the amount of firepower it can throw around in its forward arc rather disturbing.

>and we had a knight in heavy armor landing on top of us...

That seems, rather haphazard, and the connections could be serious structural weaknesses.
>>

It also sounds like maintenance work on them would be a bitch.

The short-term solution is always worse in the long-run. Reverse engineering Neeran tech could take decades if not longer, a prudent strategic mind would not rely on 'miracle weapons' to win battles or indeed wars.
>>
>>28253210

>Kharbos Plan vs Modernization

So for the Kharbos plan, we'd have to scrap older ships?

I'd be afraid as hell to focus upon miniaturizing our smallest ships to fight the Neeran. Corvette squadrons already seem to get slaughtered by the Neeran corvette plasma weaponry, you'd need a proven increase in performance to make it viable against them.

On the other hand, modernizing is likely even more costly, especially for a house like ours.
>>
>>28253177
Not sure about the design, but if it performs well under stress tests it might be just what we need.

If anything a compromise might be the better solution. Modernising the fleet and if there are some left over standard corvettes they could go through with the transformation to Attack Corvettes.

Kharbos MRP

Scarab I -> Scarab II
Standard Corvette -> Attack Corvette II
Attack Corvette I -> Reduced production cost
Frigate + 2 corvettes -> Attack Cruiser wreckage waiting to happen

Ruling House fleet modernisation

Standard Corvette -> Scrap -> Cash/resources for New Assault Corvette
Attack Corvette I -> Reduced production cost / Cease production?
New Assault Corvette (Still in limited production)
New Attack Cruiser design (Still in limited production)

The biggest problem with the Ruling House's program is that the shipyards necessary to produce the newer designs are still being built. They're currently very few in number.

Well either we could try give the Managers car a workover to make it auto speed up after passing a certain speed limit or shortcut the breaks if we want to be sneaky. However I do not know if we have the capability to do so lest we do some memory imprinting or the like.

Alternatively we could just lay in wait to ambush it once it drives into the perfectly placed mine we put on the road while we lurk about with out X-Ray laser to finish them off.

We could ram him in a front on collision and then since we are in power Armour simply walk away while the cars are both wrecked.

Modifying the cloak to act as a camouflage (look like a driver from afar and not a murder machine) might make it possible.

Then we can get out by punching the windscreen.

This is if he drives the care, else we have to find out where he is situated and how hard do we have to ram.

Another thing that might enhance this op success is having a unreported car crash body with high alcohol levels in the blood. If we can score this thing we might just pull it off as a accident. This and either Tinted windscreen so no one can see the murder machine driving or a cloak mod hack.

Scarab I -> Scarab II
Standard Corvette -> Attack Corvette II /Scrap -> Cash/resources for New Assault Corvette

POD modular mounts for all Corvettes, ones that with the New Assault Corvette/Attack Corvette II/ Scarab II seem to be growing with the amour/hull preferably

PODs to be mainly either :
+Extra Gun (we do need greater firepower)
+Extra Sensor (cloaked enemies are a potential reality so we need sensor coverage, corvettes are actually able to pull it off.)
+Extra PD, laser or ballistic (here is the opportunity for specialized PD flak rounds and shit that might disrupt plasma shots)
+Extra Torp Tube (this may be hard to pull on a pod but not impossible and with this we can have any corvette get more SP torps, or simply torps down range - heck the first corvettes we started with was either more gun or 1 torp tube)
New Attack Cruiser design (Still in limited production)

The Problem with Kharbos rearmament is that their last point is not true. They wont find a Attack cruiser to ambush with frigate and 2 corvettes. They are either going to be in a wing or supported. they wont be able to get the perfect engagement every time and in low numbers enough.

The problem with the Ruling house Fleet modernization is that it leaves a lot of scrap and in effect terminates a lot of Dominion firepower via the scrapping.

Considering that we are in a war neither is optimal, since we need some shit at home even if its not optimal.

Thus is suggest we cram them both together Half the corvette fleet going the Rearmament and half the corvette fleet going the modernization. Now this may still leave some gaps but if we go with the proposed pod and subsystem specialization we could have all the corvettes be they rearmament or modernization up-gunned or mission spec-ed, and the New Assault Corvette could be one that specializes in SP Torp Pods. Low, thin profile high pod mount numbers, extra shields and engine and optional modular Armour.

Your hacking modules are designed to interface with starships, not small vehicles. There are modules like those that are used by carjackers which could be found on the black market. Or perhaps Mike knows someone who could find one for you.

>>28254489
>The Problem with Kharbos rearmament is that their last point is not true. They wont find a Attack cruiser to ambush with frigate and 2 corvettes.
They're using the hulls from a frigate and 2 corvettes to build an attack cruiser. Various anons and myself suggested that such a ship would suffer structural problems. If such was the case you'd be flying your attack cruiser waiting for it to fall apart around you and turn into wreckage. You know, from it being in pieces and all.

Exactly.

He's got some nice basic looking seat restraints along with the default airbags and that's it. If he crashed at a speed in excess of 270kph he would most likely be killed. Likewise a head on collision with another vehicle at lower speeds, both moving +140kph would also do the trick.

So, we've got the following

[ ] Head on collision with other vehicle
[ ] Shoot engine in attempt to make it crash
[ ] Shoot fuel cell to make it explode
[ ] Detonate anti-tank mine
[ ] Use Carjacker/hacking module to cause it to go out of control
[ ] Sabotage vehicle when it's parked. Use timer or remote trigger

Not necessarily. A Carjacker would just need to take control and could upload a program to the car's computer telling it when/where to crash. Of course if you wanted to make sure nothing went wrong I guess you could hitch a ride on the vehicle, hack it while on the move and then jump off at the last second.

Keep it simple, stupid.

the easier is to explain away the better.

A ramming or car hitting with a alcoholic corps is the easiest way to explain it. We need just a fresh corpse or a way to fake its time of death.

In any case it leaves the least forensic evidence and even leaves a fucking culprit.

Why go the way that makes it suspicious and might leave to much evidence of a assassination.

The usual suspects would be a lazy mechanic or factory mistake, if they even determined that the specific bolt didn't just stress fracture and fail or some other bit wasn't the cause.

>>
Back to the present while we're waiting on more votes as we`re still tied.

You apologise to the various Lords that you'll have to get back to them on the corvette situation as you'd like to conduct some tests before making a decision. Still you are leaning towards requesting some of them.

"Oh, very well then."

As you start to scan the crowd again to see where everyone is now someone calls for quiet. All eyes turn to a stage on one wall of the ballroom everything has been taking place in thus far.

"May I have your attention please. Presenting Planetary Governor Teth'au Veos."

An older larger Dro'all wearing an outfit cut to vaguely resemble a General's uniform walks out into the stage.
"Greetings honored guests both those who have been here before and our newcomers, the new Knights and Nobles of the House welcome." If his voice were any deeper it would sound like rocks grinding together.
He pauses for a moment to allow for applause then resumes.
"First allow me to show my appreciation to Andronikos Palaiologos and his family for assisting in preparing this ball as I was called away on matters of state. Tonight, besides the usual politics and well wishing for our brave and valiant war heroes we will be looking to those assembled for acts of charity in these dark uncertain times.
Firstly the memorial fund. It has long existed to provide for the welfare of family who have lost loved ones in service of the House and are unable to find the financial means to continue by themselves. We're hoping that will recieve a large boost tonight, not just here but at other fundraisers throughout House space over the next few days. Though remember, its never too late to donate."
>>
After the next round of applause the Governor turns to supporting another mercy mission. "Another Charity that's recently been established is to support the construction of evacuation transports. Most of them are being built at small, but supervised, shipyards in the Pandora Cluster at the expense of the Shallan's remaining financial reserves. Those reserves could run out at any moment at which point they'll have to make a choice between using their own remaining yards to either assist their allies or to build means of escape. At the moment the second option would be harmful to all of the Houses and Factions currently fighting there so we cant let that happen.

Now to anyone that's shall we say, reluctant to donate Earl Gernot Sigurd Jerik has promised a tax break to individuals commensurate to the size of the donations."

Well if there was a way to get Nobles to part with with cash that was it.

You have approximately 5.2 million in spending money (with however much you presumably received for the assassination in untraceable currency currently hidden.)

How much do you plan to donate to either charity?
>>
>>28256659
>a tax break to individuals commensurate to the size of the donations.

>>
>>28256659
Donate? Without profit? Doing that for the tropps in our wings and such I see no problems with it but for some nation that will most likely not even feel it I say no. We've spent enough money as it is right now and should try to save some up to push into the company first and secondly and thirdly. We need our money if we are to push up in the political ladder.
>>
>>28256719
In wartime? As much at 7% of your annual income, but we're still early in the war.

>>
>>28256659

We've got enough non-liquid holdings for now, not even counting potential GE/Aries bonus dosh.

I say we donate 3-4 million, with the majority focused upon the memorial fund. We've sent our fair share of men and women to their deaths, and we've bled for the Shallan.

I wonder if anything came of the Shallan attack cruiser we brought back to the alliance?
>>
>>28256889

After the initial flurry of donations have died down the Governor tries to get everyone's attention once more.

"Terribly sorry but I've been informed that there is an alert out for worlds where smuggling traffic is known to take place. As many of you know there have been reports of the Neeran releasing an invasive species behind our lines to terrorize the populace. They're currently calling it a Warrel and several Houses are concerned there my be attempts by members of the nobility to import some for the purpose of big game hunting.
It's important that everyone understands that these are being treated as enemy combatants. Knowingly bringing one onto our worlds will now be considered an act of treason. Depending on the circumstances its not out of the question that such a crime may be punishable by death."

"What about forfiture of assets?!" Asks someone from the audience.

"That's not being discussed at this time for fear someone might try to frame a rival family. If anyone has contacts with smuggler organisations please do what you can to ensure these creatures are not brought to our worlds."

Within ten minutes you've overhead conversations of wealthy nobles planning to go to worlds being plagued by these things so they can kill one as a trophy. Nothing's been said about bringing back dead bodies.

"Fine. Sonia those things, those Warrels, you've read the reports about them right? They're tough. Its like they have body armor grown into them so regular ammo is going to take forever to bring them down. Which means you're going to need armor piercing rounds." Says Alex.
"Splinter ammo." Adds Mike.
"Which is illegal so you mostly only find it in use with certain militaries and on the black market."

"Sonia, the prices are going to skyrocket once the rest of these Nobles figure that out."

Invest in ammo companies as quickly as possible!

In fact, use our arm as a network uplink and buy stocks in all the corporations that manufacture splinter ammo.
>>
>>28258570
Interesting, interesting. I doubt there is any legal company making it with it being illegal so it would be hard to invest in. No we would have to either set up our own splinter ammo factory, or convery one we already have. Alternatively we must convince people in the house go try advocate it's use to the Earl.
>>
>>28258471
Sounds like the time to invest is now!
>>
>>28258471
What exactly makes splinter ammo so illegal? Just that it can punch through lots of people?
Because setting up our own ammunition production line one day would be cool.

We could make lots of exotic ammo, like micronuke heavy caliber bullets.
>>
>>28258471
Interesting...

Given that the House is currently engaged in a war, I doubt they'd look too kindly on nobles 'finding' a bunch of military-grade splinter ammunition due to bribes or political contacts.

Therefore I'm guessing that most of the Nobility is going to turn either to the domestic black market or off-world smugglers.

First we need to outfit one of the factories in our industrial park on Surakeh to produce splinter ammo. The we incorporate two or three shell companies to hold the assets under different names and in one company hire a few employees (see smugglers) to transfer the product from Surakeh to the Homeworld. Finally, we let it be known very subtly that we know some people to get in contact with off-world if nobles are looking to procure splinter ammo; thereby netting us a tidy sum.

As your two Lieutenants both explain, the only manufacturers are in South Reach and the Pandora Cluster. Supposedly the Terrans can manufacture them but do so in extremely limited quantities for their special forces.
Prices are controlled by the distributors: Smugglers.

You could probably have someone buy up stockpiles on Tourta and have the local garrison secure them for a cut of the profits. That wouldn't do anything about the stocks that are here on Dreminth. Mike knows of one black market hub in a sector near his old home.

"We could either go in there as buyers since we do have cash, or we could get some Marines together hit the place and split the profits with them without having to put down any cash ourselves."

"What about the cops?" Suggests Alex.
Mike shakes his head. "Wouldn't work, the smugglers would just pack up and take off. We need to hit them from above if we're not buying."
You recall you have a ship in orbit.

>Your orders?

>>28258812
They're "slightly" toxic as they're made up of layered bundles of carbon nanotubes forming needle-like fiber shapes similar to asbestos fibers. The rounds are put together in such a way that they act similar to a depleted Uranium round long enough to get it through a few layers of body armor.
The whole "On impact with a hard target, the nose of the rod fractures in such a way that it remains sharp."

This war will not be over soon. As the rest of the faction will start to munch up splinter ammo it will go over what the smugglerse illegal factorys can produce and sell. If then we had converted a factory to make the ammo for us we could ensure that our house did not have to buy it at simply silly prices.

So converting a factory could probably earn us both cash in the long run aswell as prestige within the house for helping out. That is if the Earl does not feel offended at us for breaking the law even if it is for the house.

So yeah, make a factory for it.
>>
>>28259297
They had to redesign the ship to fit around the main gun so sort of.

Carjacker is ahead by 1 vote. Also regardless of your roll its going to take 1 month at best to get that new arm made up and programmed so it isn't suited for the assassination mission.
>I meant more for things we have the command codes for
You'd need to have the ship set to accept those commands remotely. Also by doing so the vehicle is vulnerable to signal interception. Someone could hack in and take control away from you. The odds of it happening are very low but keep that in mind.

>>28259372
>Can we ask Mike if he knows how much the ammo currently sells for?
"No, but with the amount of cash we have right now? Its small change. If its more than 1500 for a crate I'll be surprised."
>>
>>28259481
I think a combination of raiding the local black market and building our own factory off-world under a shell company would be a good combination.

We deprive the local market of products, driving up prices temporarily, for us to cash in soon and provide a steady stream of ammo in the long-run.

Maybe we might eventually hope to become the House's official supplier of the ammo, if we build up some political capital among the nobility.

Why we would simply strike down these dasdarly smugglers in the name of house JD. Confiscating their illegal goods as such, not trusting mere police to be able military grade hardware. Now if a few of these bullets happens to find their way into space giants is that really a bad thing?

Also the moment those gangs starts to use heavy weapons such as splinter ammo in the core worlds I fear the hammer of the house will come down.

You should be talking to your Marines, the Barons, anyone about legalising splinter ammo since its needed for the war then. Or wait until Winifred has taken command of her new territory then talk to her and the Governor of Surakeh about it. That's where your industrial park is located.

>>28259781

>What's your getaway plan/vehicle?

Does the city of the future still have sewers? They should be a tolerable environment in our armour.

Regarding splinter, a proposal to legalize it could be only in those areas aflicted by the fucking monsters. Now a raid on the local amo depots and perhaps a hostile takeover of one of the factories coupled with a disaster in the other will make us if not one of the major splinter ammo suppliers certainly a considerable presence. The smugglers can handle delivery where it is illegal, but once its legalized we can ship it ourselves or still use them at legal and market fees, if they want some honest job.

So to do this we would need enough conglomerate capital with our mates to take over one factory and perhaps some muscle, do a raid here on the stockpiles and perhaps some ships or some black ops to blow up another factory of splinter producers who would become our competitors once we are in the business.

Do we know anyone near any of the two major producers of ammo who could pull something like this off and are able to afford or persuade them into it?
>>
>>28267690
We can hitch a ride, hack the car, slow it down a bit before the big ramp, set it to head off the ramp, and then jump off before it speeds up again.
>>
>>28271190

>splinter ammo

I like it, though we should see about getting a special contract/exemption in order for the factory to produce ammo for J&D's armed forces and other military groups fighting Neeran.

We stay legit as possible, selling only to active J&D military, who then might illegally transfer the stuff to others. But that isn't our problem, as that is -their- crime.

>>
>>28272093
You do not sell 'only' to somone. Sure our client will be JD military, but come on, nobles and big game hunters are going to be a big market and if we have a good lobby campaign then so is going to be pest extermination, requiring essentially almost every outdoors-man to have a gun and splinter ammo to deal with the beasties. Local government might make the ammo legal for civilians only in semi auto weapons or single shot ones, to keep criminals going for splinter ammo machine guns and battle rifles and such but that is not our concern as weapon manufacturers that is law enforcement and legislature issue. We just have to encourage legislature to find a way to make splinter ammo available to hunters, wardens and exterminators to keep the best contained and perhaps eradicate it.

>>28272156
No.
>>
>>28271190
There are a pair of minor Houses that captured production lines from the Pirates in South Reach capable of making the ammo.
House Indum and House Camdie.

The Warlords still have at least 1 line in their remaining territory that can make them.

There are two companies in the Pandora cluster that admit to making them, and as you've seen first hand there are likely more that simply don't like to talk about their business.
Most of that ammo is now being shipped straight to the front in military convoys. What doesn't head that way is distributed by smugglers.

>>28268791
>limit myself to calling out idiocy

>>28272065
1 for hacking then jumping off. Presumably hiking several Km to a parked vehicle?

>>28272156
While potentially insane this does include a getaway vehicle.
>After witch Alex will be driving a tall car or a truck or something below us which we land on and speed away to safety!
Alex is unavailable at that particular point in time, you need another driver.
The line from your smart grapple would become visible beyond a certain distance.
Jumping onto another vehicle that has matched speed could also be an option if we're going there.
>>
>>28272443

You start small, getting an exemption for producing the illegal good for a military cause.

When the nobles suddenly find out they want the good for their hunts, you use that to help you lobby for expanding your sales.
>>
>>28272470
On light of this, my plan needs some serious readjustments since blowing up ammo factories as suggested here goes way to close towards aiding the enemy by fucking up our own and allies ammo supply.

We could however go for a bid to buy those lines, pack them up and move them to Surkesh, if we move fast enough. Perhaps a call during the or immediately after the party and the raid.

Still I am sad we wont be able to blow some competing facility up. In fact i would like to blow up the Pandora and warlord ones up, regardless. As long as there is no connection to be established towards us. The dominion at large would see that as a good thing , and if we can cover the newly created demand at a similar cost then it does not go into aiding the enemy since supply lines wont have to be disrupted if we work fast on that.

And if we make a nice deal for the Pandora people with the ammo and perhaps something like bang sticks (similar to those used on alligators and such) and sell them really chea if the legislators cooperate it might improve house JD standing with the Panda bears. Enough of such action perhaps and JD might be the go to place for diplomacy trade and negotiation between Pandora and Dominion.
>>
>>28272507
That seems to be already factored in. And could be done easily enough. We can simply rent or buy outside of JD.

We would prefer that we can make it inside JD, and i am certain we could find somone to agree with us and work on that but considering the impending problem that such beast might pose it might be easy to ensure we get such a cooperation.

In the meantime securing the ammo to have something in the trade for the nobles who will go hunting almost now, is something to get our feet moist, and securing those production line from the minor houses that captured them is the next step - focusing mostly on this civilian market who may be far more lucrative. Follow up with sabotage of the others and enough of a increased output to take over the military contracts and that will tie them off from recovering since we should have already ensured to cover most of the demand in the civilian sector as well.
>>
>>28272669
So basically we want to raid the local black market for some immediate supplies; while setting up our dummy corporation and factory off-world to create a steady long-term supply, with an eye towards legalizing the ammo and securing some legitimate contracts.

TSTG, how hard would it be for us to set up a factory and dummy corp for this idea, and how much would it cost?
>>
>>28272934
Setting up a small legit factory in the industrial area you own would cost about 1 million. If the rounds were legalised.
2.5 mil for a more normal sized factory.

If you're trying to hide things it'll be more difficult, or do you just not want your name attached to it?
How exactly would you want to set up the dummy corp?

Anyways, back to the assassination planning so we can get it over and done with.

1) Taking control of the vehicle
[ ] Hacking while vehicle is parked/stopped
[ ] Hacking then jumping off.

2) Escape
[ ] sewer/storm drain, to reach parked vehicle
[ ] hiking surface level while under camo (Assuming nothing goes wrong)
[ ] *Jump to other moving vehicle
[ ] *Grapple swing off via overpass

*Only of use if hacking on moving vehicle

Do I need to put up another survey for this?
>>
>>28273263
I say we spend that 2.5 mil for the factory and just call it an ammunition factory and be done with it. If anything it can produce normal ammo until we feel sure we can get away with splinter ammo or get the house to agree on it's productioin. That combined with the tax of 1.47 mil owed to the house should land us at a little above 1 mil left in spending money should we need it. Not counting what we got for killing that guy.

As for the assassination, I'm really fine with going with anything by this point. Just so we can do it. Personally I'd go with hacking while parked by if people don't want that I'm fine with it.

>How exactly would you want to set up the dummy corp?
Given that we are now the CEO of our own company, all business actions should flow through that avenue.

First we create a holding company (Lastar Holdings), and divide ownership of the shares in it equally between our company, Alex and Mike.

Then we have this Holding Company purchase a small amount of shares in a half dozen or so military/industry related companies, in addition to maybe a warehouse or two.

Finally, we create a shell corporation (Gunning’s Heavy Manufacturing) on Surakeh which legally owns the ammunition factory on our land. We then divide ownership of this company's shares 85/15 between our holding company and the factory manager.

You could try to take them by force but the chances of this succeeding are infinitesimally small unless you have a spare infantry division or two and planetary shields with which to hold them.

>high quality salvage equipment [tractors and such] or engines for our three ships, reducing the over-all costs for their repair?
GE does make tractor beams in addition to the piles of other things.

>>28274443
"Alex, if we called up some marine friends and got them to hit the black market, do we know the legality of how the goods are handled?"
He thinks about it for a second. "Well with the splinter rounds we can just say we're confiscating military contraband, the rest is... wait, didn't you say you were having trouble with the Landlord?" He asks turning to Mike.
You're about to ask him to try and stay on target but Mike motions you to be quiet a second.
"That black market hub is sitting on their land and it doesn't look like they've done anything about it."

"So?"
"So, once we confiscate the ammo we can blackmail this Lord Do'orla Epyn, because they haven't done anything about it. She can be charged."

"How much of a fine is it? If she has enough money she'll just pay it off." Mike points out.
Alex shakes his head. "The price tag doesn't matter, it's a hit to reputation more than anything."

"Okay, good. Now back to the other stuff?"

"Uh, if it's owned by the same people that have the illegal arms and ammo we can confiscate it as well, though we might need to pay for some of it because they can technically sell it off to cover their legal fees. Only if they're caught on the ground. If they take off and resist in any way we can declare them a hostile vessel and salvage them."

"Good!" You scan the hall until you find your old CO from the training unit. "4th Training Squadron, 3rd Flight. Time to bounce the Knight Captain and possibly grab some drinks?"

Making your way slowly around the room Alex speaks up.
"Let me know if or when you two are going to hit that Smuggler group because I finally got my suit of power armor." Glancing over he's looking the happiest you've seen him in awhile.

Mike raises an eyebrow. "I thought you hated shooting things while ground pounding?"

"No, I don't like getting shot. There's a difference." He pulls out him com and sends you a data packet with info on his new armor. It's custom built you can tell that much. A modified form of Light power armor with additional armor layers that make it look more like power cell armor. It would be easy to mistake in the middle of a fire fight. It looks like the outer layer is designed to be jettisoned or to act as an extra ablative layer.
Along with it is a custom tower shield similar to the Republic tac shields some of your elite troops use in boarding actions. The shield has a pair of micro RPG launchers installed in it and can be folded in half for transport. It's also made of much stronger armor.

The trio of you Mike and Alex walk up and greet Captain Dayton who has picked up a few grey hairs since you left but otherwise hasn't visibly changed much.

After shaking hands he looks you over. "I didn't expect to see you three again. Especially you after I heard you almost nuked yourself above Kaartinen." He says pointing straight at you.
"Mike, I expected you to die at the very end of the Warlords Campaign and Alex for you to go quietly insane as a result and get transferred back home."

"Bah, I almost got irradiated by an unshielded drive core on my second mission sir. It would take a lot more than a Nuke to stop me." you reply.

Dayton shakes his head. "Well that seems to be the case for most of you that survived your first five missions. I haven't had any other classes that turned out so few casualties post graduation. Mind you a lot of your peers stuck with the training squadrons."

"How is everyone sir? Have you kept up with them?" Asks Alex.

I've heard he's done a number of mock ship duels and made a small fortune by now."

"Damn." Says Mike.

"I don't suppose everyone is made for suicide missions against space giants"

Dayton shakes his head. "We've had to drastically overhaul the pilot training since the start of the invasion. Our trainees were getting massacred otherwise and it's close to doubled the time needed to get them ready for combat. Even with all the extra training we'll need to start getting better equipment soon or suicide missions will be all we're good for."

You tell the Captain about some of the mixed unit training you carried out with the Alliance. With any luck some of the corvette units could pick up support in the form of ships from other Factions to help out.

"Right, I heard about the mixed unit training but we didn't have many fast cruisers or frigates to physically train with until your fleet returned from the front.

If you wanted to get in some practice it would help if any of you were to use your cruisers to get the others used to working with the larger ships. Or if you just wanted to screw around you could act as an OPFOR pilot. We're out training through most of the week.
Right now the technicians are trying to modify some republic missile boats with thrusters powerful enough to accurately simulate the Neeran ships. One of my engineers is getting a little obsessive about building one that can exactly match the look and performance of one using emergency thruster units in bulk. [Late January 4025]

Acquiring the carjacker unit was a pain in the ass. You could have stabbed him walking out the front door a week or two ago, but then it wouldn't have looked like an accident.
Also it would have been kind of creepy since you're used to stabbing people wearing body armor.

Over the fence, along the edging next to the lawn so as to not leave any footprints. Avoid the small sculptures with pointy hats that look like they date back a couple millenia, and you've made it to the garage. The doors are secured, both those on the building itself and the underground lift pad that sits in front of it. The rest of the family has a few vehicles so at some point they installed underground storage. You don't know which one the plant manager's vehicle will be brought out of but from previous observations the car is brought out and prepared a few minutes before Colquhoun departs.

A faint thump is followed by the vibrations of a lift moving then the doors in the pad shift out of the way just in time for the repulsor car to be brought into place. You don't have a lot of time.
Attaching the carjacker securely to the rear engine compartment you start it up and set it to take control of the computer.

Come on, how long does it take for this stupid thing to hack the computer on a blasted car? One of your ship hacking ones can take down security on the bridge of a Super Heavy in a few minutes yet this one hasn't broken into a car in ten?

What.

The.

The door to the front of the House opens and closes and a few seconds later the factory manager walks down the path towards the car.

Fuck.

Okay don't panic, he'll probably sit in the driveway for a few seconds while getting belted in.
The side window folds down to act as a step and he climbs in, telling the autopilot to head for the factory. Well, thank goodness he's consistent.
As the windows fold closed the repulsors immediately power up and you have to scramble onto the back engine hatch, trying to bump the vehicle around as little as possible. Okay, with any luck he didn't notice since the car hadn't fully lifted off yet.

Taking off down the short driveway the car banks harder than most operating on an autopilot and no inertial compensator would, then accelerates down the roadway. Within sixty seconds you've reached one of the main highways and shortly after that the car has passed 140kph. Keeping as low to the main body as possible you try to reduce drag any way you can. Partly so that you don't have to worry about being blown off the car, and partly because the last thing you need is for him to pull off for maintenance because of reduced performance.

Sixteen minutes after you attached it the carjacker flashes ready and that it's taken control of the computer. The program you had it installed with is trying to match up the final leg of the trip and correct for not having to drive it the entire way there... done. You hope.

I'm sure I'd be able to think of something if that were to happen.

Program uploaded. You get ready to remove the carjacker and secure it inside your harness but you may need to make a change of plans.

The car is hurtling down the highway at much closer to 200kph since the vehicle barriers in this area are high enough to ensure little chance of a head on collision. It also means that getting off is going to be very difficult. Simply jumping off at this speed would be a good way to wreck your limbs and get a concussion or whiplash, even with your suit. There are other cars around while you're still in the suburbs which you could try to get across to, then there are overpasses which you could try to hit with your smart grapple.

Once into the less populated areas the vehicle barriers will be smaller so that car will reduce speed slightly, but there will be less vehicles moving the same direction as you. The upside on waiting is that there will be less people to potentially see you make your escape.

Your means of transportation is also located nearby. The longer you wait to get off the harder it'll be to get to it. A +100km hike is not how you wanted to spend the day.

There's still the carjacker. you could set it to reduce speed enough for you to bail out but it would alert the passenger.
>>
>>28278533

... so here is a thought. We've got our backdoor/control module in the car, right?

Why can't we just have it crash him on the way -home- from work?
>>
>>28278658
Isent there a risk he will notice it? Like Peter Baelish said, "When in bed with an ugly woman it's better to just get it over with". Aim for one of the overpasses I'd say, we rarely get to use the grapple hook as it is anyways.
>>
>>28278658
The longer the program is in use the greater the chances of it being damaged or detected. It's already in the car now. If there was anything like say a system update done by a technician at work it would wipe the program.

>Are we equipped with repulsor anything?
Your suit has repulsors but they're meant to help you stick to walls or slow your descent when dropping down a few meters. You have to be near something for them to work well and flying straight at them tends to reduce the time you have to decelerate.

So you guys really want to use an overpass do you? Within the city limits or wait until you get into the more sparsely populated areas?

Also what's your plan for shooting this thing? Newton's first law applies.
>>
>>28279139
Wait until we're at the closest point we can hook onto, then fire our grappling hook. Set it to gradually let out the line so we aren't yanked off the car, and use the repulsors in the suit to balance the forces further.
>>

Good thinking.

The suit gives you some data but there`s a slight problem when it comes to the last section. You'll be flying straight down at the roadbed or the concrete divider.
>>
>>28279549
So we'll have to reless the hook from the overpass at an exact moment to cause us to go flying upwards once we've reached a sufficently good position. Somehow... Somehow I can't imagine this ending in any other way than Sonia crashing into another car in stealth mode, making a body body shaped crater in the hull of it.

>>28279725

Why don't we just launch into the air to kill momentum, then smart-grapple onto a building or something nearby ala spider man, while we're doing CRAZY plans?
>>
>>28279549
>>28279652

Actually if we keep extending the rope further once we are separated from the car it makes us lose more and more Centrifugal force decreasing our speed and may not slashing us against the pavement. We just need to be careful not to give too much rope or it will lose tension or too little and sent us at terminal velocity to the pavement.
>>
>>28279770
If there are building nearby then doing that should be possible.
>>
>>28279808
The problem is probably that if a slightly taller vehicle, or one flying just a bit higher, comes down the overpass, it'll hit the cable of our grappling hook, and things will most likely be rather unpleasant from there on.

Plan B
There's that way of doing it but your grapple line will be extended across the top of the overpass, either from keeping the same line the entire time, or grappling to the center divider. In either event there is an elevated risk from large vehicle traffic on the upper roadway.

>>28279725
Plan C
Detach in mid flight, retract cable, fire again. This will require 2 rolls.

The highway and side streets are wide enough that you wouldn't be able to hit the closest buildings before you fell.
>>
>>28279924

>>

>>
>>28280177

Almost forgot grabbing hold at point B is safer because its higher than point A so we can give away more rope at the beginning without fear of dragging ourselves through the pavement.

The basic of this is the longer the rope the more energy is require to come full circle or reaching maximum elevation on a 90 degree angle.

Also excuse me for my terrible English as its not my first language.

>>28280394
Fuck it, shoot him when he parks the car. I don't even care if it's not an accident at this point.
>>
Use roboarm to hack a nearby empty aerocar and have it fly along nearby, then grapple onto that!
>>
>>28280394

Hell! At this speed the tension from the rope alone could kill someone or cut its head if he gets on the way while its moving; even with a proper harness it could be dangerous and we don't know if the grappling hook and rope are made for our weight in recon armor(we are in armor right) combine with the speed we are going.
>>
And my post got ate.

I was going to say "Someone using the power of math for good!" then this happened.
>>28280394
Once you leave the more populated you believe the vehicle will decelerate to 140kph, until then its moving at +180kph / +110mph. Good effort though.

>>28280561
You survived the incident where your knees were wrecked (just barely) so yes the cable can take the weight of your suit undergoing a rapid course change at around that velocity.

>>28280559
>Use roboarm to hack a nearby empty aerocar and have it fly along nearby, then grapple onto that!
It wouldn't be ready in time. Also there's 1 more roll left for the 1d4 from earlier to see how many months it will take to have that made up.

So, Plan B and Plan C seem to be back on the table as the slightly more viable ones.

I have got to stop for the night. Will try to post in morning and will resume slightly after 3PM with any luck. Please discuss your plan of action.
>>
>>28280751
>you believe the vehicle will decelerate to 140kph, until then its moving at +180kph / +110mph.

So the situation is actually worse than I thought...yeah I don't like plan B or C since we could still carry on our momentum and will hit the wall like a bug against a speeding car.
>>
What if we grapple onto the pillar holding the overpass up and wrap the wire around it sideways? That would let us slow down by playing out line, even as it winds around the pillar. And we could use the suit repulsors to slow down and stop us from "falling" towards the ground too fast.

To be fair I did provide plenty of opportunity for people to suggest backup plans or contingency measures.

6 out of 7 people voted for Plan C

Still hanging on to the back of the repulsor car you plan out how best to make your escape from the soon to be death trap. The risks of swinging up and over the top of an overpass are a bit too much for your liking. Hitting one of the support columns with your smart grapple however might actually be survivable.

This is still crazy though. Next time you swear you're going to have Arron or someone else waiting with a ground vehicle or a shuttle. Double checking that the carjacker is still inside your harness and nothing else could be left behind as evidence you ready yourself for the car to reduce speed. Okay, outside the city limits and into the hills of the surrounding countryside. There are a few overpasses along the way that look promising.

Thank goodness its reducing speed. If it hadnt you might have needed to break out the carjacker to update the program.

Once you've dropped down to almost 140 you take aim and prepare to shoot towards the top of an oncoming support pillar. There doesnt seem to be any heavy traffic behind you at the moment.
"Targeting computer don't fail me now."

You really hope Colquhoun isnt paying attention when the grapple launches out towards the pillar just off to the side. It impacts hard enough to dig into the concrete and the line begins to retract to maintain tension. When the car passes beneath the bridge you leap upwards and are yanked to the side with the cable going taut. You'd be cursing a blue streak if you werent so busy making sure your line didnt run out or throw you out so far as to hit the embankment.

Hanging on for dear life you make vital first orbit of the support collumn without crashing. Your arms are killing you but most of the force is being redistributed by your armor.

With each subsequent orbit your speed drops and likewise so does your height above ground. Spooling out more cable each time around means you only have so long before you're brought to a more sudden stop. Reaching out with your other hand you try to grab the side of the column to slow your descent even more. The few times you actually touch causes a layer of surfacce material to be worn off by the friction, creating a cloud of dust. It's working through, you're losing a lot of speed.

At last you're dragged to a stop by your suit repulsors a few feet up from the top of the vehicle barrier.

You pause to take a breather. "Okay... not doing that again... if I can help it."

The next few minutes are spent getting the cable untangled from the overpass support then climbing off to the nearest side road. Checking the maps of the area that are loaded onto your suit it seems that you're about 60km from where you parked the getaway vehicle.

That is going to be a long walk.

Checking the news after making it back to your lodge it seems that the factory manager was in fact killed in a crash after his vehicle went out of control. Police haven't completely ruled out the chance of foul play and the incident is under investigation.

There is a notice for DHI shareholder's eyes only that a number of manufacturing problems were discovered in one of the factories but was corrected. Several people in quality control have been sacked after it was found that a reactor production line was substituting salvaged parts in place of new ones to save money.

Lets say its heavily restricted and is illegal for civilians of any House to own. The other Factions have similar laws.

You head over to talk to the "new money" and see how badly they're being left out of things.
Arthur is nearby and walks over to see you. He, Daska and Verilis have been taking turns making sure nobody is trying to scam the newer Knights out of their possessions in addition to providing some support by just being there.

You spot Vaughn, Drake and Rasi hanging out along with several Knights from the other wings and squadrons. There are some nobles around talking to them its just that most of those nobles are much younger or relatives of some of the pilots. Generally they're all getting along fine. Going through the list you spot almost everyone from the Wing who was Knighted except for Lorraine.

"Arthur, where the hell is Lorraine Day at?"

"Uh, Daska saw her earlier off that way." He points you off towards the refreshments.

Oh no, she better not be getting drunk again. Picking up the pace you hope you dont arrive too late. Most nobles know how to pace themselves, Lorraine takes the opposite route of just being able to pack away a lot of liquer before it starts to mess with her, but she's never quite sure how much that is.

Sure enough there she is but it looks like she's been sticking to the non alcoholic section tonight. She's talking to an older knight with one of those grand mustaches. Hang on you know that guy. That's Sedat Baykal from one of the Knight Errant groups. He tried to recruit you and Alex before the campaign.

As you approach the older Knights greets you. "Knight Captain Reynard, it's good to see you again! Congratulations on everything this past year or more. Why, you've made almost as much money as I have in that same period."

"They're hoping to recruit me." Says Day.

The older knight suddenly looks weary. "Young lady, tact is certainly not your strong suit."

>What say?
>>
>>28291798

"Knight Day picked up the moniker 'Surgeon' for more than just her shooting, I believe."

Shit, I'd hate to lose Day from J&D, but all we can really do is endorse her proven ability and let her find her own path.

Are Knights Nilsen and Koppel around, as well? We never got to meet Nilsen.
>>

>>28292002
Sounds good to me and as always make sure Day knows there is always a place for her in the Third Attack Wing.

Maybe ask Sedat how he has been this last year since we havn't had the chance to check up on him with everything that has happened.

We should maybe keep in contact just to we can at least know someone in the Knight Errant group.
>>
>Maybe we could see if Dayton could teach our sister piloting or something? Might make up for that forgotten gift?
"I think I have some free time every other week that could work out. Though it starts to turn into an exponential class size growth I'm calling it off. I'm not showing fifty kids how to drive a repulsor car on its side again."
You give him a questioning look.

"Its was years ago, I would like to have it not happen again."

>>28292002
>Are Knights Nilsen and Koppel around, as well?
They are not.

"Knight Day picked up the moniker 'Surgeon' for more than just her shooting, I believe."

"Yes, she was just telling me she was training to become a paramedic in high school. As you've probably guessed Captain, I'm here looking to recruit prospective Knights into our organisation."

"Well Day, if you do decide to go remember that there's always a place for you in the Third Attack Wing."

"Thanks sir. I haven't decided yet, and I was going to suggest Vaughn as a possible choice but there's some big thing going on in his home town so I think that's unlikely now."

>Maybe ask Sedat how he has been this last year since we havn't had the chance to check up on him with everything that has happened.
"Oh we've been busy. Without the help of groups like ours the Ruling House might not have been secure enough politically to declare a state of total war. They're not the weakest House to have ever controlled the Dominion but they are very close. If the 10th Dynasty hadn't exhausted itself in the fallout of the Terran Civil war and the Faction Wars its unlikely they would have come to power."

"So the Ruling House pays you to bolster their political support?"

"Rarely so directly, but on occasion. We also have nearly unrestricted access to equipment produced by the Royal Drive Yards. My compatriots and I were awarded Royal Guard Cruisers about one year ago that would have otherwise ended up in Lat'tham space."

Anything else you want to talk to him about?

Tell him to keep up the good work and it was nice to see him again. Maybe trade contact info if we don't have it already.

Ask Day about this thing happening in Vaughn's home town before we go ask him ourselves.
>>
>>28291798

>"They're hoping to recruit me." Says Day.

Of course he is, he is talking to you. Remarkable young pilot eligible for Knight Errant admission plus a wise and experienced Knight Errant means a poaching expedition.
He has a suspiciously good eye for talent. Tried to do the same with me and Alex. We did not go because they would not take Mike.

>As you approach the older Knights greets you. "Knight Captain Reynard, it's good to see you again! Congratulations on everything this past year or more. Why, you've made almost as much money as I have in that same period."

"Sedat Baykal of the Knight Errant (is this the proper title format? please auto correct), indeed it is. And i am certain I managed a similar score on blowing various things apart. I see your keen senses and willy ways are ceaselessly poaching good pilots and captains. What gives? Are the Knight Errant mobilizing for a full front deployment (did we hear anything about them fighting on the front and so in what percentage ? depending on intel we have we should rephrase this.) or are they expecting this war to be over in another year and are recruiting like mad to have enough to police the houses?"

"
>>
Phew, glad the overpass idea worked! We should get a parachute or the repulsor equivalent for our power armour.

>>28292431
That hack could have gone much faster. If it had we wouldn't have gone ghost riding and left more physical evidence.
>>
>>28292764
>or are they expecting this war to be over in another year and are recruiting like mad to have enough to police the houses?"
>
"Rarely so directly, but on occasion. We also have nearly unrestricted access to equipment produced by the Royal Drive Yards. My compatriots and I were awarded Royal Guard Cruisers about one year ago that would have otherwise ended up in Lat'tham space."

Hmmh... you know, considering we liked the guard captain we could try to do some interesting domino thing.

We have a former CO commanding all JD in the South reach, we have our star former CO and teacher from flight school and we have the Knight Errant. And the incipient start of our little social club.

We could go for now on the war footing and semi formalizing it in some kind of a progression path from recruits to elite unit graduation and then swinging the branches either in the Alliance, in JD and perhaps as KE (is KE a permanent position?- if so perhaps as a auxiliary force. I mean its not like they can get bacup whenever they want to and they are mostly outnumberd in whatever house teritory they run into. A black ops shadow wing or so that could be assembled slowly with ships we got through our salvage company and perhaps funded partly by them that could operate around JD space with ease should allow them to be able to more securely lock down certain areas. Just a thought. This way Winifred, Reynard, Dayton and other military nobility affiliated with us will have external political support and not have to rely only on internal situations.)
>>
>>28292863
>parachute

Yes, great idea at least while we are operating on a planet. Also a second VB could be nice.
>>
>>28292431
I can think of a couple way but lack a means for Sonia to just stumble onto that info.

>>28292737
"He said it was something to do with a militia and the local gangs. He grew up in Collingwood which I guess is pretty rough?"

>>28292764
>>28292764
"I am certain I managed a similar score on blowing various things apart this past year."

The older Knight chuckles. "That would not surprise me in the slightest. Our first mission after we left Jerik-Dremine space was to track down a Baron who was being less than cooperative and capture his battleship. While we later freed him he still had to pay a ransom for the return of his ship. Your attack cruiser would have been most helpful in situations like those."

"Good to know I have competition in the salvage business then. I see your keen senses and willy ways are ceaselessly poaching good pilots and captains. What gives? Are the Knight Errant mobilizing for a full front deployment, or are they expecting this war to be over in another year and are recruiting like mad to have enough to police the houses?"

"No, nothing so grand as a mission to the front or taking over all the police work. If we did everything ourselves it would make us too large of a target. As it stands we're largely becoming a mercenary unit made up of Knights who just happen to put more stock in job offers from The Ruling House. As for recruitment, we never stop. We are always looking for more Knights, especially when Houses cant directly fight each other."

>is KE a permanent position?
Yes/No/Sort of. It can be. An Errant Knight is one without a House or who has been kicked out of their House for one reason or another. The more famous are those whose House was conquered forcing them to find refuge fighting for other Houses or powers but never swearing allegiance to a new one. In the past decades its become more popular for these individuals to group together and start recruitment of their own.
>>
>>28293266

"Just don't find too many. We've still got our time's faction war to fight against the Neeran."
>>
The group that Knight Baykal is part of recruits Knights or potential Knights from still standing Houses in return for financial compensation. Most Houses are happy to take this sort of trade if its only for a small number or officers.
In the case of Day she's more recently been Knighted which means the House may be able to get back any land she was granted if she'd even selected an area yet.

Those who get recruited have the chance to make much more money, get their own ships and crews, and once they've payed everything off can even leave the group. It's one way to get rich and famous.

"Just don't find too many. We've still got our time's faction war to fight against the Neeran." you tell him.

"The Truth is, I may not find any this trip. In two days I'll be in the House Erid capital, and two days after that another world. If I'm not recalled to help with a mission that is. There are always Houses that need assistance. We've even been asked to act as neutral representatives on occasion, both because we try to keep our word, and because we can take care of ourselves if something goes wrong. If things drag out I might open a training academy myself to help with the war effort."

Anything else here or try to find Baron Winifred?
>>
>>28293598
"If things drag out and you still plan on opening that academy know there is a Knight Captain who would love to support such an endeavor."

Now to go see the Baron.
>>
>>28293598

I almost regret not going Errant.

Let Day know that she has our support no matter what she decides, and if she does decide that the Errant gig is for her, to let us know.

I have half a mind to see if we couldn't loan her Bittenfeld for a bit, if she goes Errant, and then have her keep an eye out for people we might recruit as non-aligned specialists we might be looking for. [Say navigators like Linda for our salvage company, or engineers that might need a new identity/life aboard our ship or in our Company]

We could probably chat with Baykal about that, too.
>>
>>28293848
"Well, thank you. I'll be sure to let you know if it comes about."

>>28293881
>I almost regret not going Errant.
I had written up some notes for the first 2-3 missions when a larger group of anons pushed the vote back the other way.

>Let Day know that she has our support no matter what she decides
"I'm glad to hear that sir, thank you."

Day is proficient with republic plasma weaponry. There are only a few ships designed to mount them and the Bittenfeld could never be one of them.

>We could probably chat with Baykal about that, too.
"Oh ho ho! We have a hard enough time holding onto our ship crews Captain. With the experience some of our people pick up they can find high paying jobs in many places, and in almost any House. Still, if you're in the market I'll add your job offers to the list."

>Talk to Baron Winifred about Narcotics smuggling
(We seem to have missed that last time.)

The older woman spots you long before you arrive. "Captain, its good to see you again." She says at your approach "I'll be departing for South Reach in a few days."

"I came to wish you luck sir. Also I never did mention a few weeks ago about the narcotics I found that are being smuggled in from South Reach. Those Cigar bush are still making it off the planet."
"Straight to business as always. Yes, I understand they're quite addictive. Apparently Intel is planning on building up a stockpile that can later be shipped onto worlds of rival Houses which would both make us money and disrupt some of the populace."
"But what about the ones making it here?" you ask.

"Likely they're being sold to finance the team of geneticists trying to remove the worst qualities so they can later be sold normally. Cigars are still popular in some circles despite their long term health implications. I'm sorry, captain but I have no intention of getting on the bad side of intelligence days before my transfer."
>>
Next up you mention one of your veteran pilots Nytoria Jde. The Dro'all is someone worthy of being Knighted as much as the others who were awarded on your return home.

Winifred pulls out her communicator to look up some data then eventually frowns and puts it away. "Pilot Jde is not of Dro'all noble blood and does not command a cruiser yet Captain. That means while we are on this planet I can do nothing to help you on that front and I would advise you to drop it for a month or two. If you want I can have her transferred to South Reach with me when I leave."

"Is it really such a big deal?"

"Dro'all nobles live a great deal longer. Longer than Humans and Hune even. In some ways it's actually easier with humans where the variance might only be 40 years."

>What say?
>>
>>28294336

"I was considering saving such a request for when my younger sister no doubt enlists, Baron. You'd enjoy it, I think."

Smile.

"... Or she might just make it a family tradition to continue your investment in headache medication."
>>
>>28294336
We were thinking about trying to get the Winifred's backing to make the ammo legal weren't we? Or at least see if it sparks her interest.

Maybe say something like "With the reports of the animals the Neeran have been sending out it seems like some people think it's a good chance to go hunting. Of course they would need powerful guns....or maybe just the right kind of ammo.
>>
>>28294625
>>28294807
Both of these conversational avenues have my support. Maybe go a step further with our sister and ask Winifred if there was anything we could do to help her eventual rise through the ranks.
>>
"I was considering saving such a request for when my younger sister no doubt enlists, Baron. You'd enjoy it, I think."
You smile at her. "... Or she might just make it a family tradition to continue your investment in headache medication."

"Reynard, I shudder to think what horrors having two of you around would unleash."

"I'm still going to be concerned for her sir." You tell her. "Is there anything I could do to help her rise through the ranks?"

"If she is as willful as you are all she'll need is enough training and discipline and she'll do fine."

You make a note to yourself to remember that.

"There was another thing sir. With the reports of the animals the Neeran have been sending out it seems like some people think it's a good chance to go hunting. Of course they would need powerful guns....or maybe just the right kind of ammo."

"Hmm... the newer repulsor based mass driver rifles are being produced in more areas now but we're trying to not sell them to civilians if we can help it. As far as ammunition is concerned I suspect you're thinking of the Splinter round?"

You nod. "Yes sir. If the ammo could be legalised, even if only on certain worlds, it would make it easier to put it into production. I'm certain it would sell well."

Winifred looks at you closely. "You're aware that as production increases so will the difficulty of keeping it off the streets?"

"Yes sir, though there are way to minimise that. We'll need this ammo, if not for use against this invasive species than to deal with enemy troops.

"And if you happened to make some money in the process all the better?"

"Yes sir."

"I'll think about it. But I wont be in a position to put anything into effect for another month."
>>
>>28295335
We are going to be moving most of the time in the south reach considering a lot of our assets are there, right? And since Mikes neighborhood does not warrant a entire fleet wing contingent to pacify, we could see if we have enough people interested to cruise around there.

Say two squadrons or so?

Even if informal and mostly new knights trolling for investment opportunities, as well as their crews and a bit more of a leisure ride than war campaign but not full on training or six months letting our conditioning go, considering we have to go back.

Not right now, but in a month when Winifred is set up. We get to supervise our investments, help out some of the new knights see about some investments too, as well as the crew, develop the area, patrol and secure JD borders and of course be on call for Winifred and keep her and her newly acquired territories safe.
>>
>>28295614
Sounds like a plan to me.

Given that we're on track to spend quite a bit of money on investments over there, lets try and do some work here on the Homeworld before we leave.
>>
>>28295614
>>28295679

Aren't our 3 Salvage Company ships also there? Along with the sensor info we got from the Rovinar.

I wonder if we could use that info to locate some old Faction Wars graveyards that were overlooked or considered to still be 'too dangerous'
>>
The Baron's communicator goes off. "One moment."
She turns away and lowers her voice. "Straefer I said not to contact me as I would be busy with the ball... surely it can wait... No. I dont care that- w-what? That's not physically possible! I'm on my way now."
She turns back to you. "Captain I'm sorry but I'll need to leave, immediately. If anyone asks I've been called away because of an emergency."

"Yes sir."
Well that cant be good.

Who to see next?
Before you can get a few steps a familiar voice from earlier surprises you. "There you are!" Says Knight Captain Daniel Sylvan, rather loudly from about a foot behind you.
"How are things going Reynard? Your people still looking after my ship?"

"Actually we are, you still looking after mine?" You miss your big old battlecruiser. Its starfighter capacity was more handy than anything. Its too bad the Great Devourer can't carry much in that regard.

"Which one?" Answers Sylvan. "There's the Gungnir, which is in good shape despite Neeran trying to shoot it full of holes I might add, then there's the custom Kavarian Battlecruiser you had rebuilt to mount a plasma cannon. I transfer my command between them every so often to keep things interesting. So far we've gotten pretty good at teaming up on enemy battleships. No SP torpedoes wasted after the first few fights."

Probably because they'd run out of them by then given the current shortages. You're not sure if calling him out on that would be worth it.

>Anything to say to Captain Sylvan?
>>
>>28295335
>>28295614
And if Winifred is still down there keeping things under control when the war is all over we at least know there is someone who might enjoy our unique "talents" and how they can be very profitable.
>>
>>28295761

>Winifred called away

Oh god fucking damn it. NOT AGAIN.

Smile at Sylvan. "Have you caught a look at my shark in orbit?"
>>
>>28295753
Where is all the info on our salvage company anyway? Did I miss its details in a past thread?
>>
>>28295761
>Mentions our Gungnir and the custom ship we made for more dakka.

Why does this make me feel like he is our arch-nemesis or something like that? I still hold a grudge over losing those two.

But we should try to at least appear friendly and maybe ask about what he plans to do not that we are at the moment away from all the action.
>>
>>28296115
....I don't think we should at this moment, but just thinking about how he has our battleships makes me want to challenge him to a duel.
>>
>>28296243

battlecruisers

But we have one-upped him. We have a fucking -shark- battlecruiser that has a bigger plasma cannon, I believe.
>>
>>28296325
True, but it's just the fact we could of have three of them! They would of been like our escourts as we go from place to place.

Clearly we must get ahold of a pair of fast battlecruisers to fill that possition.
>>
>>28295761
>>Anything to say to Captain Sylvan?

Ask him about his tactics for employing the plasma gun against Neeran ships.

What's the biggest ship he's rammed recently?
>>
>>28296393
Escorts*

You know what I mean!
>>
>>28296393
Yeah we definitely want to have one or two escorts for the Devourer, forming a little command squad. Cruisers would work fine for this but fast battlecruisers would be ideal because they have a similar flight profile.
>>
>>28295956
If it makes you feel any better the other Barons have all left as well.

You give Sylvan a smug grin. "Have you caught a look at my shark in orbit?"

"Wait, YES! Yes I saw it." He shakes a finger at you. "I'm not trading them back. Not even for it and my old Aries, which I've sold to the House."
"Really? You sold it?"
"Hey, you were almost getting killed as many times as I used to when flying it. I saw the after action reports. So."
"So?'
"How much damage does it do against Neeran Battleships?"
You admit you haven't tested that yet.

>>28296439
"Usually we'll hammer them with heavy phase cannon and conventional torpedo fire then try to punch through any resulting weak point in the shield using the plasma cannon. It takes some skill and timing to get it right. Even then it might not be enough to kill one of their battleships. Generally if you can get three good hits with it through the shield it'll go down."

"What's the biggest ship you've rammed recently?"

"I don't like to ram with either of the ranged ships, it's too much of a risk to their guns. I've been rammed by their corvettes before which crippled half the phase cannons and caused enough hull damage the ship was under repair for weeks."

>>28295979
>Where is all the info on our salvage company anyway? Did I miss its details in a past thread?
It's coming up on the TO DO list. (Mine at least.)
As of the ball the ships you've acquired will be finished their repairs.
The bank would like you to talk to the director of your new salvage company to set policy, go over the personnel files of those they've received applications from and head out on their first expedition. Understandably they would like an escort or two.
As we are at 297 posts as of this one I suspect we'll be taking care of that early next week in detail.

"So Reynard I hear you have a starfighter or two. Have you entered any of the starfighter duels or races yet?"
You've been a bit busy so you were not aware of them until now.
>>
>>28296555

>if it makes you feel any better, the other Barons have all left as well

... no, it does not. Something bad -always- happens when we attend a party. Something is up, and we're probably going to have to stop -another- Neeran superheavy.

Did you guys want the needle fighter restored or have the hull put in the Lodge or the trophy room whenever it's added?

Also, before we stop did you guys want to talk to Lord Do'orla Epyn, the Sector 29 Landlord here at the ball, or wait until after the smuggler distribution point has been hit as per Alex's blackmail plan?

I may put up a survey for that over the weekend. I'm not sure. Next week's game should be 10AM EST on Tuesday. Should, but who knows that may change as well.

>Did you guys want the needle fighter restored
Well, our Needle has kept Sonia safe in situations far beyond what could have been expected of it.
Restore and upgrade it, then give it to our sister as a present later on so it can do the same for her?
>>

Hell yeah! That starfighter has saved us in the past.

And i'm not sure if we should talk but if we do it should just be more small talk.
>>
>>28296837

I think we should introduce ourselves a bit, but leave any real talking to Mike. He's probably best suited to it, what with his local knowledge.

Alas, poor needle fighter. I'm not a fan of the repair cost that I believe it had.

Policies for our Salvage Corp should be interesting, and getting an escort for them could also be interesting if we choose to make it complex. Of course, we'll have to get some corvettes from the house eventually, to act as escort/salvage scouts
