Try the Shadow Arm. Pitch black rust-stained metal arm, form shoulder to fingertip. Put it on, and you got great armor on that arm, AND you now have the power to use strong telekinesis anywhere that there's shadows present.

The only issue is that it turns your arm to shadow. Permanently. And the only way you can use that arm is if the armor is on it, otherwise it's now a useless shadowy arm.

Orphan Shawl.

It's an old ragged and slightly blood-stained blanket, always big enough to wrap up everything but your feet, it seems.

The thing is, the blanket is always warm -- it will always, always keep you just warm enough to survive, no matter how cold it is. You could throw yourself down in the middle of the arctic, wrap yourself up in it, and you'll be JUST warm enough to survive. Not comfortable, especially with cold feet, but you'll live.

The thing is that it has the soul of the orphan child who died wearing it still in it. When you wear the blanket, it feels eerily like a small child is somehow holding onto you, shivering constantly and breathing uneasily, which makes sleep that much harder.

If the blanket is packed away instead of worn, the sound of shivering and uneasy breathing becomes worse. Not enough to be heard, but always enough to distract the owner and make them aware that it sounds like a small child dying of cold, and it only goes away if the blanket is wrapped around you, which can look sort of gross and hobo if you wander around like that all the time.

But you'll always be warm, no matter the weather, at least.

The only way to put the child to rest is to bury the blanket in a warm grave, and make sure it's sanctified.

Staff of Whizzerdness: Upon inspection, appears to be a Staff of the Magi topped with a Gold Dragon Orb. Any non-caster touching it receives 4d8 negative levels, each of which lasts for 24 hours, after which the subject must make a DC 37 Will save per negative level lest it become permanent. Any caster who picks this staff up thinks of themself as an immensely powerful arch magi, to which all other magi should bow, and that the staff is granting him this power. In actuality, all of his spells per day are automatically expended as he prepares them, with the spell in the slot being replaced by Dancing Lights, no matter what the slot level was.

Belt Buckle of Stout Strength

Causes the user to gain +3 to strength, but they gain the obese deformity from the BoVD. Cannot be removed.

Ring of Mental Projection
An item that evicts the mind of the user into the aether until it is removed from their body. In this state the wearer is prone to any unnatural being that can detect them from between planes and their body is catatonic as well.

Lute of Rust Lust
A beautiful instrument that plays any tune that the individual thinks of, but the noise summons a ravenous hoard of Rust Monsters
>>
>>28328109
I think the best ones are the useful ones that have awkward side effects. They need to be useful enough to be worth keeping.

Ring of Invulnerability - you take no damage from any source nor can spells effect you. You cannot move, speak, hear or see. The only action you can take is to take off the ring.

"whatever the special quality is that doubles crit range" Scimitar (15-20 crit range) - of oppposite gender when wielded. Give it a high enhancement bonus too then wait for combat to tell them that they aren't proficient in the armor they are wearing because it is sized for the opposite gender. Enjoy your positives and negatives.

Ring of greater invisibility that doesn't work on clothes and items. You're going to have to strip.

Exploding Rune Stamp (comes with ink.) The explosions is virtually harmless.

Wildshape animal crackers including: lion, dog, cat, panda, rabbit, horse, mouse, etc. Once eaten you become the animal until you eat another one. The packet has directions for use and explains that when you eat the human shaped crackers you revert to your original form. There is only one of each cracker including only one human/biped cracker.

Cloak of fire resistance. Creates a rain cloud above you that keeps you drenched. The cloak has no hood and every now and then you are stuck by a tiny lightning bolt.
>>
>>28329315
Those are nifty. I think I'll skip the animal crackers one. the players will force feed it to their enemies

Gelatinous Cube Bait. When removed from the packet. This bait attracts gelatinous cubes, causing them to ignore anything else. It works too well and keeps attracting gelatinous cubes and other oozes of all sizes, tiny ones coming out from cracks in walls. They merge ontop of the bait and beginning growing to form a gigantic ooze that begins to fill up the dungeon.

Or: Medallion of the Ooze Tamer. Throw this medallion into an ooze to tame it. It makes the ooze sentient and able to speak common. Now they can tame it, if it doesn't attack them first.

Doubling Sticker. Place one of these stickers on an object and it immediately doubles, giving you two. If the sticker is removed or peels off (as it does after 24 hours) the two objects fly toward each other, colliding and breaking. Stickers can be reused a few times while still sticky.

Box of Potions of ____ (something good.) A rubber like band attaches a label to one of the potions. The label says one of the potions went a little wrong but should be harmless enough "with this." It doesn't specify with what. When this potion is consumed the users hair begins to grow uncontrollably. On close inspection of the band says Dragon Whisker and when used to tie back the hair it stops growing. If the character does not use the hair band in a reasonable amount of time they grow their entire lifetimes worth of hair and go bald.

>Cursed double edged sword of entropy

This needs a little bit of prep and a lot of alcohol.

Its stats are marginally better than any other bladed weapon the party has at any point. But with a 50 / 50 change that anyone hit by it ALWAYS has to roll any defensive rolls twice and choose the worse result for each hit.

But you'll not want to use it. Every time the blade inflicts damage, add and record the total of all dice scores rolled by defenders - the double rolled dice.

At the end of the encounter, that is the total number of randomly determined pages that get torn out of all rule books in use in the campaign during its continuation (not literally. I hope.)

If the only mention of an item or rule or player class is on that page, its gone. Forever. Like it never existed.

>>
>>28330374

Optional drinking game rule: if a player doesn't take a shot every time the sword wounds something, the DM doesn't have to randomly determine which pages get ripped out any more and can instead choose freely.

Charisma 0:

No one can express empathy towards you.

You're considered a "thing", not a person.
And not in the way a slave is "a lesser person" in some juristictions, or a beloved childhood toy can evoke sentimentality enough to stir empathy either.

Whilst lawful people would still consider your unlawful killing murder, they'd first have to be reminded by someone who is concerned with interpreting the letter of the law, rather than the rights of people.

Also, frenzied monsters interviewed for word association games will respond to your name with "smash!" or "destroy!" but not "kill!" because they don't quite associate you as fully alive either.

A staff that looks like a totally not cursed item every once in a while the staff gives insight on the enemies or the environment, at the beginning it gives good advice, but as time passes 3 things happen, first the character using the staff will grow needy of it even feeling a strong sense of dread when no in direct contact of the staff, second the user begins to trust the staff's unconditionaly even ignoring his best judgement, third the staff progressively gives worse and worse advice (yeah dude that orc is totaly lvl 5 you could so much kill that dude in a single blow)

The Mostly Accurate Auspex.

a lens that acts as a Scry and as an Identify Item spell, depending on the users preference. It's mostly accurate.

Scrying will show things that are *just wrong enough* to give pause. Three beings in the next room--Whether they're actually bandits, or beholders is anyones guess.

When used to identify items, it will either slightly misidentify items (+2 sword is actually a +1 or +3), or be completely off base (that Belt of Giants Strength is not actually the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity.)

Gloves of Gripping. They grip onto anything and *will not* slide. You can still pull them directly away from whatever it is though, so you're not stuck like superglue. But it's really, really hard to fumble or be disarmed while wearing them, and they're a big help when climbing. The problem is that they won't come off, and this makes everyday life very difficult. Throwing things is very difficult (you basically have to open up your hand all the way and just push whatever it is away from you as hard as you can), and this makes most ranged weapons basically useless. And forget masturbating or making love (unless you wrap your hands in sheets or something).

Quickly you start seeing into other planes, scenes of merciless slaughter from Warriors Rest, demons torturing souls on the layers of the abyss, unspeakable abominations from the far realm, blinding energy on the positive material, etc etc all burning themselves into the wearer's mind, Will save DCs each minute or the wearer is driven insane by the rapidly shifting scenes.
>>

Half assed wizard shops maybe. You don't enchant a door to stay open, you enchant a plate of solid steel to open like a door or be transparent like a window. Same with the chests and display cases: absent magic they're solid boxes without openings bolted firmly to the floor.

Onomatopoeia Ozrick - An intelligent weapon that is completely harmless unless the wielder actually shouts out and appropriate onomatopoeia, to which the sword functions like a +2 weapon.

Barf Bag - Appears to be a bag of holding and functions like one, but whenever one pulls something out of the bag, it's coated in unidentified vomit, sometimes dangerous! May require fort saves vs. disease or person may simply take acid damage!

Warm Fuzzies - A robe of fire resistance that causes the wearer to suddenly take on the appearance of an anthropomorphic animal or an actual animal. A favorite gag gift among rangers!

The Fez of Cryptic Whispers
This delightfully pleasant looking fez grants the wearer a +3 unamed bonus to all Knowledge checks and Local checks relating to mysterious and spooky things.
It also grants a +10 Percieved Bonus to Sense Motive checks as the Fez whispers to you about all the horrible things the people around you want to do. Even after taking off the Fez, just being near it makes you hear the whispers.

A bracer.

Once it is put on, it grants a small amount of regeneration, but disables the use of that arm due to spikes shooting out from the inside to the bone.

Can add other things to it if you want, bonus strength or allow two handed weapons to be one handed, dunno.

Probably extremely painful.

If someone puts it on without knowing it is cursed you might be able to enjoy their face when you evil grin and ask which arm it is on.

In my opinion, cursed items should have a powerful benefit to make you want to use them, but then a nasty drawback to make you reconsider.

Should never be something game ending like >>28334986 though, unless you are completely prepared to watch your level 3 players run off to quickdraw stab a god before murdering their party.

Also cursed item generator here:

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/cursedItems.htm

YMMV but could be some interesting stuff there.

Even minor effects, like just having the item add a tattoo when used, could make a player stop and seriously consider using the item fearing that the effect is much worse than it is.

Curious, OP still watching for ideas? See anything good yet?
