You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

You rise out of bed, yawning. Last night was certainly something. You look down, and see Kitten sleep peacefully in your spare blankets. D’aaawww, she must have fallen asleep watching Hogan’s Heroes with everyone.

Which reminds you, your place is a goddamn mess now. Cans, cups, some spilled food here and there litter your dorm. Freeloaders, you’re going to have to clean all that up!

Actually, Kitten’s here. She’ll clean when she wakes up.

You toss off your covers and head for your bathroom. Again, no heat, and it looks like the wind’s died down. The weather’s finally becoming temperate. Casablanca’s going to be a different story you imagine though, Africa isn’t known for being cool.

As you shower, you remember that you need to work on the play. You remember Octavia telling you that she’d hold auditions this week. When she would hold them, you don’t remember. You seem to have a habit of forgetting very important things. Regardless, as you wash yourself down, you find yourself relaxed entirely.

Yesterday was quite possibly the most intense thing you’ve done. Tanks, TANK COMBAT. You felt the strangest pleasure in it. You hope that doesn’t make you a psychopath. But, you’re eager to get that feeling again. You gotta ask Octavia what that feeling is. Probably some kind of Panzerhigh or something.

You finish off your shower and get dressed. You also get breakfast out of the way. Want to know why?

“President!” Nancy knocks at the door. “Time for school! You ready?”

That’s why.

You open up the door and find your staff waiting outside for you patiently. “Hey, girls,” you say.

Nancy nods. “How are things going with you, President?”

You shrug. “Day hasn’t even begun yet, Nancy. I’m doing fine though, last night was pretty killer though.”

Lisa smiles. “I didn’t think much of Hogan’s Heroes until last night.” She then looks as if she’s suddenly remembered something. “Oh, yeah, Boss. Mr. Mishka called me this morning, said he had something available today.”

You nod, business as usual. “Alright, we’ll walk and talk like they do in the West Wing.”

They all look at you, confused.

“Oh come on! You guys never watch The West Wing?”

They shake their heads.

“Uncivilized.”

All of you take a walk downstairs then onto the street. Wednesday, hump day. That day that people often consistently misspell. It’s often harder on you and your staff especially considering your role in Student Government. You really did not like staying after school last year, and hell part of you still hates it even now.

As you walk, you quickly remember that you should be talking AND walking at the same time.

“So, Lisa, what did Mr. Mishka have for us?”

Lisa pulls out her smartphone and pulls up the relevant email. “He emailed me a little while ago, said that: With the upcoming tournament, tanks are really beginning to change hands a lot and such and… well a lot of economic stuff I don’t understand.”

You nod, gesturing for her to cut to the chase.

“Anyway, he says that uncompleted tank chassis are going to be available to us. One at a time though per week.” She looks at you, continuing. “He says he has the chassis of a Panzer 38(t) for 12,000 Dollars this week. If you want it?”

> Note: CHASSIS are now available in THE SHOP. Only one Chassis will be available per week. CHASSIS require a compatible conversion kit to become a Tankery legal tank, however they will be COMPETITION SPEC. on completion.

> Other Note: Conversions take at least one day to complete.

“We don’t really have the money for it right now, Lisa.”

She nods. “Righty, it’ll be here for the week before Mr. Mishka has to sell it off.”

Nancy scratches her chin, pensive. “That reminds me, we really are short on money, aren’t we?”

You shrug. “Hey, with the play coming up, plus our match with Heinlein, I’m sure we’ll scrape some money together.”

Lisa smirks. “Always positive, aren’t you?”

“Well, you know what they say down south,” you then say in a sing song voice, “Keep on the Sunny Side!”

Ramirez says, “But it’s cloudy today.”

You arrive at the front entrance of the campus and check the time. 7:30, plenty of time before classes. You look around, and see Octavia sitting on a bench enjoying a sandwich. You can also see that other freshmen from yesterday, Loretta Niven, deep in a book.

“Hey, Octavia, what’s up?”

Octavia waves her sandwich at you greeting, still chewing. She swallows and says, “Doing fine. Really enjoyed last night you know.”

You sit down next to her grinning. “Oh, you know, parties with me are always a real hootnanny of a thing you know?”

She looks at you skeptically. “Have you ever actually been to a party?”

“… well no. But-“ Octavia chortles as you trip over yourself in words. “Oh come on! I mean, I don’t particularly have that many friends, I didn’t get invited to parties all that often, and besides they always turn into drugs, sex, and dubstep!”

Octavia nods, smiling. “That’s a real simple way to put it, Gertrude.” She finishes off her sandwich. “Besides, I’m your friend, you said so last night.”

You smile, punching her gently in the arm. “I suppose I am.”

“I’m not going to invite you to any parties though.”

“Jerk.”

Octavia has a good laugh at that, then she leans back on the bench and says, “Anyway, we got auditions today after school. Big cringefest incoming, but I know you’d be interested. You gonna come by?”

You scoff. “I am the director! I gotta make sure the actors are up to snuff you know?”

Octavia stands up, smiling. “Great! I’ll see you there then.” She waves you goodbye and walks away. You lean back on the bench sighing.

As much as you are the director of a play, you’re not looking forward to auditions. You remember the last time you tried auditioning for a play. That was not fun at all. Besides, how can you honestly critique someone on their ability to sing, dance, or act?

Actually, you probably can, they probably all suck anyway.

You look over at the statue of the Marquis de La Fayette.

Thinking quickly, you hurry over and spin the spurs on his boots, then quickly pray that someone competent is interested in auditioning.

What do you do now?

Niven is sitting in the shade of the courtyard’s trees. She looks up from her book and nods at you, then goes back to it. Hm, less talkative than Ramirez, you didn’t think that would happen but here we are. You sit down next to her, peeking at the pages.

“What are you reading?” you ask curiously. She holds up the cover for you to see. “Have Space Suit Will Travel by Robert A. Heinlein. Ah, I see. Funny, the Tankery team’s about to have a match with Robert A. Heinlein Military Academy this weekend.” She nods attentively.

“You don’t talk much do you?”

She simply says, “Stutter.”

You nod, NOW you remember why she doesn’t talk much. “Okay, I understand. Hey, if you need someone to talk to though, I’m here. Maybe audition for the play after school today?”

She looks at you like you’re nuts. Not entirely unreasonable.

OH SHIT YOU HAVEN’T DONE YOUR HOMEWORK.

… Meh, fuck it, you’re the Sophomore Class President, you can just ask for an extension.

You turn a corner around the English Department building and keep on walking. You quietly ponder the mysteries of life. What makes a human different from an animal?

You quickly go back to thinking about girl stuff like hair, philosophy isn’t your strong suit.

Suddenly, you hear a very familiar Irish accent. “Oi, Pool!”

You look over and see O’Brian, tired as ever, waving you over. O’Hara’s standing to next, trying to shout her down.

“YOU CUNT! YOU CAN’T DO TO THIS TO ME! IT WAS NOTHING! NOTHING I SAY!”

“She let slip that she saw your knickers.”

You chuckle, waving O’Brian off. “Well, like you say it was windy yesterday you know?” Oh god, you really don’t need this today.

“O’BRIAN! POOL! YOU CUNTS! IT NEVER NEVER HAPPENED!”

O’Brian sighs, crossing her arms. “Well, Pool, did it happen or not?”

ALARM

Nope, fell asleep. At least you managed to convince the Professor to give you an extension on your homework. Having to run as Class President, Tankery Team Captain, and Play Director all at once is really convincing apparently.

English is relatively the same stuff as well. You’re actually starting on some personal narrative stuff.

And by starting, you actually mean you have a personal narrative paper to write.

“Now, the Personal Narrative is due by Friday,” the class groans collectively, but the Professor continues. “It need only be two or three pages. Write about someone important in your life.”

Hm. That’s kind of obvious.

Actually, not entirely obvious at all. Who should you write about?

> Kitten. You’ve known her since Elementary School. You’ve defended her from all kinds of bullies in Middle School. The two of you have been nigh inseperable.
> Your mother. She’s very important in your life mostly because she’s been dead as a doornail since you were five, however your father often has to take cues from her like cooking, taking care of you, that stuff.

You recognize that your father might need a bit of love. Hell, I’m sure the Professor doesn’t even know his first name. You take your laptop out of your backpack and thankfully, with the time the Professor has given you in class, you decide to knock this shit out in one go.

You quickly cycle through some memories, him going spiraling through depression with Mom’s death, alcoholism, the awkwardness of him teaching both you and Griselda the wonders of sexual intercourse…

Maybe you should try something good. You think, maybe that time he was mistaken for a pedophile?

Yeah… whatever, it’d make a good story anyway. You quickly bust out the required thousand words, forget editing and forget proofreading, you can do all that later.

Woo, fries and chicken nuggets. Not the most healthy thing but hell, it’s something and it tastes relatively good.

You find your staff sitting at the usual table, and thus you sit at the usual spot next to Nancy and across from Lisa and Ramirez. Lisa is apparently in the middle of telling a story to Ramirez.

“- And then he just falls down the stairs. It was the cringeworthy moment I think of Middle School.”

Ramirez nods. “I can relate. Something about girls hitting puberty earlier than guys really turns them all into idiots for some reason.”

You chuckle. “Hey, I oughta tell you guys about Eugene.”

Nancy looks curious. “Who’s Eugene?”

You smile, taking a bite out of a chicken nugget. “Way back in Middle School, me and Kitten had a really nerdy ass friend called Eugene. Shortest, scrawniest motherfucker you ever laid eyes on. You know, I sometimes got in fights because I had to defend Kitten or her honor. Other times, it’s because Eugene got himself in trouble with the big bullies in the school.”

Lisa nods. “Ah, I see. Is he still like that?”

You shrug. “He transferred out between 7th and 8th Grades to a different school. Hadn’t heard from him since.” You sigh, leaning forward on the table. “Shame really, I hope he’s doing okay.”

Nancy nods. “I hope that as well, Eugene sounds like a nice character.”

“So, how are your days been going?”

You scoff. “I happen to be a very full B-Cup, thank you very much.”

Nancy however, has this to say: “Actually, Lisa’s right. It’s not gonna look good to the rest of the student body if you don’t keep consistent grades. Do you even have an A in anything?”

You briefly ponder on it. You snap your finger, happily, “Gym class!”

“All you have to do in Gym is show up,” says Ramirez.

“Thanks for the vote of confidence, Ramirez,” you respond dryly.

Lisa waves Ramirez off then says, “Hey, if you ever need help studying, we’re here for you. Just call us.”

Balls are flying every which away as you duck, weave, and well… dodge them. The thing about dodgeball is that it’s not exactly as much of a teamsport, in fact it kinda works similarly to Kitten’s FPS games like Team Fortress 2, sometimes you just have to carry the team.

And boy did you carry.

As you weaved through the hail of rubber balls, you took accurate aimed shots at the exposed girls on the other team. Your shots always aimed true, either hitting a leg, an arm, or in one case a chest. Your team as well followed your example, catching balls and knocking out the opposing team members without ever getting touched. Not even the Lob-and-drill technique from that one Nickelodeon show could stop you, mainly because it never worked in the first place.

Soon, your team is victorious. You bump fists with the opposing team leader then hit the showers.

The showers are an excellent relief to those rubber balls to your limbs. With that in mind, it’s time for History class.

“Right, you’re going to do a presentation on a civil war of the 20th Century. I want it done by Monday.”

Well shit. Maybe you can just partner with someone-

“No partners.”

Well shit.

Whatever, you can figure that shit out later. Might be worth it to pay the History Club a visit to get some advice. Now that you think about it, you don’t know much about the History Club. Now you really want to pay them a visit. But alas, you’re busy today.

Time for theatre.

ALARM

Welp, that went quickly. As did French Class as well. Nothing but the fundamentals like the –er verbs and such and how to conjugate them in the imperative form.

With that, school’s over. What now?

> Head to the Auditorium

You head on down to the Auditorium. You text your staff that they can go home for the day, but that you’ll call when you need them. You arrive and open up the doors. Nothing but Theatre Tech kids lounging around on their smartphones and their iPads and their portable game devices. You see Octavia up in the front row.

You head on down and sit down next to Octavia hands you a script of the play. Now that you remember it, the script wasn’t exactly small. In fact, this script is about several dozen pages. A bit daunting, but it could be worse, you could be reading War and Peace.

“This is the script?” you ask.

Octavia nods, her script clipped to a clipboard and already annotated to shit. You need one of those, an annotated script, looks so official. “Sure is,” she says. “Don’t be daunted by it, most of it is filler that we can skip over if you’d like.”

You shrug. “We’ll talk about it later.”

Octavia nods again, “Anyway, how’s your day been, exciting?”

“Eh, it’s been okay. Got some work that needs to be done though, presentations here and there, a paper for English.”

Octavia nods. “That’s rough, but hopefully you can get all that done over the weekend.”

“The Heinlein match is this weekend.”

Octavia looks at you, shocked. “Is it? Shit, thought we had more time.”

You quirk your brow. “Something wrong?”

“Oh, nothing, it’s just- your team’s kinda…” she looks for the right word to describe it. “… shit.”

Eh, the only word more versatile than shit is fuck. You quickly start flipping through the script and say, “Well, Octavia, I think we have a chance at beating Heinlein.”

“I don’t.”

“… Well, you’re honest, gotta give you that.”

Octavia shrugs, indifferent. “Look, Gertrude, I think things realistically, and the realistic outcome is that you get beaten. Not gonna say how badly you get beat, just that you get beat.”

You say, “Octavia, it’s just a practice match. There’s nothing hang on it like the World Tournament.”

Octavia nods, agreeing with that. “Right.” She points to a group of girls standing around, chatting stage left. “Those are our auditionees, if you want, we can start going through them.”

> Auditions

“Alright, first auditions.” You wave to the girls on stage. “Hi, girls. I’m sure Octavia already has your names and contact information set. So…” you flip through the script, trying to look professional. “Yeah, if one of you could go first and read a couple of lines for us, that’d be great.”

All seven of them look at each other. Great, only seven in a cast of at least twenty. This’ll be fun.

One walks out of the group and center stage. Short girl, brown hair, glasses, nothing too exciting but nothing too ugly. Just about perfect for the stage. She holds up her script like a book. She waves, “Hi, I’m auditioning for the role of Erica Mason.”

You nod, figures they’d snap up all the female roles first.

She reads her lines off the script in a rather dry tone, with only bursts of emotions in between. You quietly sigh, that’s the usual fare for people wanting to audition. Unfortunately the only people with enthusiasm for Theatre are the Theatre Arts kids.

God, you REALLY don’t want to deal with them. At least this girl has a nice singing voice, might work good as a back up, and if she memorizes her lines and puts a little more effort into delivery, she might be an understudy.

Now, who’s next, it’s-

Oh shit. IT’S KITTEN.

You cough, trying to cover up your laughter as Kitten shyly takes the stage. She glares at you for a moment, then says, “Uh… I’m not auditioning for any particular role. I’ll take what you give me.”

You quickly get control of yourself, then just say, “Alright. Whenever you’re ready.”

Kitten puffs her cheeks, then lets all the air out in one go as she flips through the script for something. “Uh…” she says audibly. Oh god, this is so cute yet so cringeworthy, you’re not entirely sure which is which.

Eventually, Kitten says, “Um. I don’t… particularly know what lines to read. Do you mind if I just sing a song instead?”

Octavia says, “Sure, go ahead.”

Kitten looks down at you, her blushing intensifying. You simply smile reassuringly at her. Octavia motions one of the Theatre Tech kids to the piano sitting in the orchestra pit in front of the stage.

Sykes quickly takes the piano and flips through some music. “What song?” she asks.

Kitten says, “Oh… uh…” she looks at you again. You simply shrug. Kitten rolls her eyes then says, “Can you play, You are my Sunshine?”

Sykes nods. “Sure thing.” She quickly plays a few notes on the piano, then gets playing. Kitten exhales, then inhales, then begins singing.

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping,
I dreamed I held you in my arms,
But when I woke dear, I was mistaken,
And I hung my head and cried…

Octavia leans over to you surprised. “She’s good.”

You feel a little giddy inside. “I know,” you whisper back to her.

You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are grey,
You never know dear, how much I love you,
Please don’t take my sunshine away.

You instantly begin clapping, grinning. “Bravo!” you say. You slowly stop clapping as you realize no one else is clapping alongside you, then grin a little wider, blushing. “Ehehehe…” you shrink a bit in your seat. “Yeah. Good job.”

Octavia nods. “Good job.”

Kitten eagerly leaves center stage and sits down at the edge at stage left. You try not to do anything that might indicate that you know her, lest the other girls think you’re just going to choose her over them, much as you want to.

The next girl, surprisingly enough, is Jenny Curtiss from the Aviation Studies Club.

“Hi, I’m auditioning for the role of Colonel Tanner.”

You nod. Now that’s something.

“Alright,” she says. “I’ll be reading off the lines on page 32, the part where he explains how things are going?”

Octavia nods. “I’ll read the other lines for you.”

Jenny coughs and clears her throat. Her usual enthusiastic expression replaced now by one of sheer seriousness. She uses her script less as a reading tool and more of a prop actually. She points to some imaginary points. “West Coast, East Coast, first wave of the attack, came in disguised as commercial charted flight same way they did in Afghanistan in ’80. They were crack airborne outfits. They took these passages in the rockies.”

Jenny continues on, her acting surprisingly good. You find herself enthralled by it actually, and when she’s finished you’re disappointed that she is finished. Christ, you and Octavia clap politely.

The next two auditions aren’t as good as Kitten’s or Jenny’s auditions. Like the first girl, they mainly stood and read off the script. You cross your arms. Even despite Kitten and Jenny, they can’t do a play all by themselves.

Or can they?

Nah, they probably can’t.

Regardless, you soldier on through. Maybe someone will burst through the doors and just-

The doors to the main entrance suddenly burst open. “I’VE COME TO AUDITION!” says… O’Hara?

Wow, you weren’t serious when you thought of that.

O’Hara marches through the aisle, everyone’s attention squarely on her. She jumps up on stage then stands center stage. “Impressed?” she says.

“When you show me your audition, maybe.”

O’Hara smirks. “Well, script please!” A script immediately flies right into her face, knocking her glasses off. “AH! MOTHERFUCKER!”

Octavia indifferently says, “Language.”

O’Hara quickly puts her glasses back on and begins reading the script.

Strange actually, you recall O’Hara laughing at you when you asked if she was interested in auditioning. Why is she even auditioning now? You look back into the audience seating. Nope, you can’t see O’Brian so it looks like she didn’t lose a bet or anything.

Hell, she seems way too enthusiastic. What’s her angle?

“Right, I won’t be auditioning for any role in particular, I’ll read off for Jed Eckert in the Deer blood scene.”

With that in mind, her audition actually goes relatively swimmingly. Her accent actually disappeared entirely, which raises a lot of questions as to whether it’s fake or not. It probably isn’t, but hell, you can speculate can’t you?

“Well, I think you did lovely, O’Hara. Loved how you made your accent go away, maybe go with more subtlety instead of… bombasticness?”

O’Hara shrugs. “Of course! I welcome your constructive criticism, Pool.”

You can’t help but ask why she even auditioned in the first place, but decide better of it and perhaps leave it for later.

The last two auditions go by rather uneventfully. Like the others, they can actually sing pretty well, it’s just that their general acting ability is… horrible. They’ll make good extras at least. You scratch your chin, thinking on it. You have at least eight auditionees.

For a cast of at least 20 characters.

You sigh, rubbing the bridge of your nose as you consider it all. Octavia as well doesn’t look very happy but she at least musters enough energy to thank everyone for coming.

“Thank you all for coming,” she says. “We’ll let you all know who has what role on Monday, we’ll also be doing another audition session on Thursday. So let your friends know what’s what.”

With that, everyone scatters.

Octavia looks over at you. “How do you think we did?”

Octavia shrugs. “I suppose we do. I’ll do some auditioning tomorrow while you’re at practice if that’s fine with you.”

Octavia sighs, looking as if she’s going to regret this. “Worst case scenario, you can always just cast yourself in a role.”

You smirk. “Ha, the day I act in a play is the same day hell freezes over.”

Octavia pats your shoulder. “I’m sure it’ll be fine, anyway,” she checks the time. “I got somewhere to be. Feel free to take a look around the auditorium, ask Barkas if you need a hand with anything.”

> Take a walk around the auditorium

Both you and Kitten decide on walking around the Auditorium. It was just the two of you so it was more or less pretty quiet. The set itself was looking near completion, but it seems like the more detailed stuff like the electronics, props, windows, and other things were still getting into place. You also spot an incomplete building setpiece, probably for the town.

Kitten points over somewhere. “Look at that.”

True to her word, it is the mentioned wooden mock up of a Soviet T-55 tank. It was still quite visibly wooden, and the turret appeared to be missing the main gun. Everything else however, the tracks, the hull, and even the wheels appeared to be in place.

You whistle admirably. “Gotta say, that’s some dedication.”

Kitten nods. “Yep. Be a shame if that went to waste.”

You walk over and caress the wooden hull. What you wouldn’t give for a tank like the T-55 to be legal.

Your stomach growls.

“Sounds like it’s time for dinner,” says Kitten.

You lean forward, your hands on your cheeks. “You know, you were so cute when you were singing it’s not even funny!”

“Yeah, let’s not discuss that. Anyone can sing,” says Kitten. You giggle, still sperging a little at the memory of it. Kitten sighs. “Anyway, Trudy. I’m guessing this means the play is gonna go well?”

“Well, Kitten, we’ve got a long ways to go. It ain’t just the play you know, we’ve still got Tankery to deal with. Our match with Heinlein is actually this Saturday, so you’re gonna needed to wake up bright and early.”

“No human being that isn’t clinically depressed wakes up at 6.”

“Actually, you need to be at school by 6. You’d need to wake up at around 5.”

Kitten sighs. “I don’t know what I expected.”

You smile, “I’ll be sure to, we’ll shower together, we’ll dress together, it’ll be like freshmen year all over again! See how Tankery’s done for us?” You take a sip of water.

Kitten looks at you curiously. “You know, I don’t think you ever told me why you revived Lafayette’s Tankery program.” You nearly choke on your water. “Why did you restart it?”

Do you idiots remember why Tennyson wanted to keep this confidential in the first place?

Because he wanted students to enjoy school without the spectre that it's going to end unless we win the Tankery.

“Uh… well…”

Kitten looks at you skeptically. She’s probably noticed that your cheeks have gone a bit red, you can’t seem to look her in the eye, and the fact that you’re nervously shifting in your seat.

“Well, you see, Kitten, I-“ Fuck, you can’t lie to Kitten. You can’t tell her the Truth either. “Kitten… uh…”

Kitten is starting to look concerned. “Are you okay?”

You nod violently. “Y-Yeah! Totally fine, right as rain! You know, it’s real funny, Tankery. Funny stuff!”

Kitten says, “Are you hiding something from me?” What gets you is the fact that she doesn’t angry, she sounds hurt. Oh god, your stomach, and it’s not hunger.

“No, Kitten, I’d never do that!”

She crosses her arms. “Then what is it?”

“I…” You ball up your hands into fists, trying to make it come out. “Fuck it, I’ll text you.”

“But I’m right here-“

“I can’t say it, okay?!” You quickly pull out your phone and start texting like mad. With that, you hit send and in response Kitten’s phone vibrates. Kitten pulls out her phone. She looks, and after a minute, she looks up at you. Then she looks back at the phone, and back to you.

“Kitten, I-“

“No.” Kitten sighs and puts the phone back in her pocket. She leans forward on the table, looking you dead in the eye. “How long did you know about this?”

“Since the end of August.”

Kitten frowns. No, Kitten, please. “You didn’t think to tell me?”

“I-… well no. I thought I’d just… let it run out you know? I’d tell you when I felt like the time was right.”

Kitten stands up. “I need to use the bathroom.” She leaves without another word. Oh man, you could’ve handled that better. You sigh, your spirits dropping as you slack into your chair.

You simply sit there in your own thoughts. You hadn’t even realized the waitress put your food on the table for you. A burger, some chicken tenders, all of it looked so good, and yet your appetite has gone away entirely.

You don’t know how long you wait until Kitten finally comes back. Her cheeks look a bit reddened, her eyes still look a bit wet. You can definitely tell what happened in there.

“I don’t blame you,” says Kitten quietly. “I suppose I could’ve waited to know this.”

You don’t know what to say, so you simply nod.

“You remember how hard the entrance exams were?”

You shake your head, thinking on it. “Lot of nights were lost studying.”

“Not to mention how many people were there. Thousands it looked like.” Kitten looks down at her meal, wiping something out of her eye. “If… it happened. Where would we go?”

“Try to transfer on another Academyship. Principal Tennyson said our tuition would be refunded.”

Kitten sighs. “That’s impossible. And you know that.”

You can’t help but nod at that. You pick up a chicken tender, trying to take a bite. It tastes good, but not as good as it could be.

“Gertrude, I don’t want to be separated from you.”

“We won’t be, Carol. I promise you that. We’ll win the tournament and everything will be right as rain, I promise you!”

Kitten looks up at you, she sees the tears forming in your eyes. Her lip quivers, and she says, “Please don’t cry, Gertrude. You’re gonna make me cry again.”

You nod, biting your lip and wiping some stray tears out of your eye. “Yeah, yeah.” Your voice cracks a little. “Yeah, let’s just have some dinner and act like we’re not about to burst into tears.”

Kitten nods. Soon the two of you begin digging into your meals with somber enthusiasm. None of you say a word as you eat. You don’t even say a word as you get up and leave a far more generous tip than you should for the waitress.

You and Kitten simply stand outside the IHOP, looking like the saddest little things on the Academyship.

Where do you go?

> Your place

> Kitten’s place

The two of you begin the long trek down the street. You quietly hope that nothing interrupts you on the way there, you REALLY do not need anything bugging you out right now.

Suddenly, you feel Kitten’s hand brush up against yours. In response, you take it and hold it firmly. Kitten looks at you, and in response you hold up your hands to her view, trying desperately to look happy.

It’s kind of hard to be happy when you’re sad obviously, but hell you can try.

Eventually, you arrive at Kitten’s dorm and enter inside. You sit down on Kitten’s bed, sighing. You don’t even feel like taking your bra off. Kitten has resigned herself to the shower for a couple of minutes.

In those couple of minutes, you think about anything other than Kitten. You can’t cry now. You’re Kitten’s rock damn it. You’re as unmovable as the tree by the water and the mountains on the Blue Ridge.

Kitten walks out, wearing her button down shirt and skirt. She lies down on the bed, looking straight up at the ceiling.

You lie down next to her.

“Gertrude.”

“Yeah?”

“I won’t let you down, I promise you.” She turns over to you, and hugs you. Your vision starts getting fuzzy. No no no no, stop. “We’ll win the tournament, and we’ll be together. You know that, right?”

“I know, Carol. We’ll do it.” You hug her back. “We’ll win, we’ll graduate from Lafayette Academy, we’ll live our own lives.”

Kitten says, “Thank you for telling me this, Gertrude.”

You brush away some hair out of her face, then kiss her forehead. “I love you, Carol.”

Kitten’s lip quivers, then she buries her face into your shoulder. You can barely make out her muffled voice as she says, “I love you too, Gertrude.”

It’s at this point that now you begin crying. You weep as you caress Kitten’s hair. Kitten keeps her face buried in your shoulder, silently crying as well.

Eventually, after you’ve cried all the tears you could, you can feel Kitten’s labored breathing grow soft. She’s asleep.

You might as well go to sleep as well.

Schteel, mind if I ask for details regarding Gertrude's and Kitten's appearance?

I only got Gertrude's hair being shoulder length, and Kitten having brown hair (I'm assuming it's not smooth and straight for not being picky with her shampoo).
I may try to take a stab at drawfagging. It'll probably take a while though, so don't hold your breath for it.

>>
>>28442944
I'm going to be honest, I don't have much of a clue regarding their appearance. However, for the sake of it, I'll improvise.

Gertrude: Around 5'8, shoulder length dark brown hair, blue eyes.

Kitten: 5'3 (I know I said Gertrude's a head taller than her but the actual difference is only five inches at most.) Longer brown hair reaching just above the elbows, brown eyes, freckles, and some what pale skin due to not getting out enough.

The rest I'll leave up to you.
>>
