You shift a little in your seat, silently indicating you'd like Stellius to look at your wound. Well, it isn't all that serious, but you know... he rolls his eyes and kneels down beside you, tugging at the bandages.

'Ow, shit!'

'Oh deal with it. I've got an uncovered shoulder wound.' He glares at you, eyes fierce.

'I could cover it for you...'

'Save it. It's not a deep wound.' He shrugs with one shoulder. 'And neither is yours. But of course, since I use poison in my darts, you might die within two or three days unless you do what I tell you to do and I give you the antidote.'

'Hilarious,' you say, but even as the words come out you feel a little tingle near your hip, as if something was exciting the wound. Wait. He's joking, right? 'So, how does this work? Is it the same as doing it alone?'

'Well, how do you do it alone? We patrol the paths around this hill, and if there are travellers we waylay and rob them. This area's near some routes leading to the High Royal Road, so there's plenty of travellers. But you knew that.'

> cont'd
>>
>>29027941

You do. You've seen the caravans, the convoys, the entourages. Lone ones, though, not too often. The High Royal Road connects the capital, Kenishelm - a place you've only heard about, really - about 600 miles in the north, through the central regions, to the great ports, hundreds of miles to the south. Or so they say. This kingdom's big. And it sounds like you're in the centre of it.

'Fair enough. But let me tell you - I'm here on my own terms. I say I will join you, and that's all. If things go badly, IAAAAARRRGH-'

You scream, backhand Stellius and then roll off the chair, and Stellius sits up with a hand to his cheek, the other stained with blood. Fuck, he stuck his finger *into* your wound! But he is as furious as you.

'You *dare* say that!'

'You son of a-' you rush at Stellius, but he kicks you to the ground and draws his knife again.

'I lost a spear there because of you! I made that spear! And you dare say you're just here on your own terms? After shooting me and making me lose my weapon?' You try to struggle, but this time he is brutal, kicking and kneeing and finally putting the knife to your throat again. 'I want you to make me a new spear. If you don't, I won't even wait for the poison to take effect, you hear me?'

'Hey, deer's skinned!' A merry voice comes from outside, totally oblivious.

> Wait, is it *really* poisoned?
> I'll make you the spear. Fine.
> Defiance. (Note the knife at your throat, though.)
> Other.

> I'll make you the spear. Fine.

"You like straddling me don't you? Get off."
>>
>>29028628

Are you scared? Fuck, of course you are. Stellius leans close to you, but he hasn't pinned your arms this time, so you pull his knife away from your throat and begin a slow wrestling match, using every ounce of your strength to resist him. Finally you grab his wrists, he grabs yours, and you drag him down closer still.

Why's he always wearing this facecloth, anyway? You stare into his eyes.

'You do like straddling me, don't you? Second time you've done this in a day.'

'You son of a-'

'Get off me.' You shove, but he remains in position, and bucking against him doesn't really help either. Fine, let's use diplomacy again! 'I'll make you the spear. I'll make you a fucking spear, right?'

'Do you mean it?' he folds your hands over your chest but you push them off. For such small hands, he's got some strength in them. 'Say it! Promise!'

'Fucking hell, I promise! I'll make you a fucking spear!' Stellius lets go of your hands and sits back, and then you feel the pain in your hip where he was sitting right on your wound. 'FUCK! MY LEG!'

'If you don't keep your promise, I promise I will make this hurt seem very, very-'

'Oh hello,' Rilius says from outside and Stellius gasps and scrambles away from you, relieving the pressure. Right! Much better. 'Getting frisky already?'

'Shut up,' Stellius says.

> What do you say, Ephidel?

'Do you need help with the deer, Rilius? I can help.'

Rilius nods, and you follow him outside where the deer is already hanging by its hind legs from the nearby plane tree. There's still a little blood left, dripping into the bucket, and Mudel is working the skin off with his knife. You take yours out, and then realise you're still carrying the bow on your back.

'You really like that bow, don't you?' Rilius says. 'Though, I must say, I haven't seen the likes of it for a very long time.'

'So you have before?'

'Oh yes. When the horse raiders came from the east. I was just a child then, but once you see an Ammojor, you never forget him. Those are Ammojori bows, no doubt.'

'I guess.' You begin working on the skin as well, trying to separate it as cleanly from the flesh as possible. Every ounce of the meat is precious out here, though there's enough on this doe to feed the four of you plentifully. Certainly Mudel thinks so, whistling cheerfully as he reaches the chest.

'This lady will give us around 60 pounds, I bet. Not counting the offal.' He looks up. 'Stelli doesn't like offal. You?'

Is this man serious? Also, is Stellius serious? Who doesn't eat offal? But then Mudel glances at you, which means he's actually waiting for an answer. You give it while cutting.

'Of course I take offal. It's meat, isn't it? Tripe in a hot pan with fat and some berries. Or steam the kidneys with wild lettuce and carrots.'

'Now, now, the man knows what he's talking about!' Rilius laughs.

'Does Stellius really not eat them? Where the hell was he before he became a bandit anyway?'

Both the brothers look at each other. You wonder if they're an actual family. It seems Rilius and Mudel might be blood related, but somehow Stellius doesn't seem like part of that. Eventually Rilius confirms your suspicions, shaking his head.

'Well, I wouldn't know. Somewhere off in some city, I think. He's taken well to the woods, though, as you can see.'

'So, now that we have food, when's the next raid going to happen?'

That you go straight to the point makes both the men stare, hard, at you. Sensing something behind you, you turn to see that Stellius is there as well. The deer is almost fully skinned. Rilius lets out a little laugh, and Mudel joins in.

'You haven't a clue, have you, Ephidel?' Stellius shakes his head, coming up to you. 'We haven't a raiding schedule. We live off the hill if we can, and rob on the road if we can.'

'But how about shepherds, or swineherds, who might come by the forest? I know for a fact there's a village to the west of this hill, another one to the north at Burnt Oak Pass. Many more along the ridge.' All those peasants and herders, scratching out a living on the soil of the valleys and foothills and the forested peaks. 'So those-'

'We don't like to touch the farmers,' Mudel shakes his head as the hide finally flops onto the leaves. 'What, would you?'

Of course, you... were just a villager like that as well. And then your entire village and family were wiped from the world. Do those villagers not also live under that threat all the time? It seems wrong to subject them to your violence as well. And yet that violence is what you live on. You're bandits, after all.

You sense that if you state a willingness to attack those villagers, it might open a rift between you and the brothers. But to foreclose that path...

You think a long time, and Stellius steps up as if to shake you, but Rilius holds up a hand. 'Come on, don't make him impatient.'

'His impatience is his business,' you say simply, resisting the urge to smirk at Stellius' expression. 'But you have a point. We ought not to attack the peasants. They live poorly enough as it is.'

'Good. We like us a thief with honour,' Mudel smirks.

'Besides,' you go on, cutting him off, 'we could always manipulate them. If we can trade with them, that will help feed us.'

'Well, here's a man with ideas,' Rilius says. 'And can I ask you another idea?'

You wonder if any of them is taking note. Or perhaps they've already been trading with the villages so far? But it doesn't seem like it, looking at their clothes. 'Yes?'

'How should we prepare the deer? Because the newest brother should say so.'

>>

Venison in soup is done. I've had it before.

I'd rather grill it as well, though.

While they cook, go talk to Stellius. Ask if he does most of the work. Maybe we can peel off with him.
>>
Question. Is there magic in this world? Or is this just Earth circa 1610?
>>
>>29037221

You have heard of there being other races of sentient beings before. There are the Ivetili, but those are known to be extinct, though they have spread many of their bloodlines through those of men.

There are also more violent mountain peoples, but apparently they've all been driven out by the Kingdom, and only exist elsewhere. You don't really know. The kingdom is big, but it can't be the only kingdom around, can it? You've heard word of the 'Seven Kingdoms', even the 'Fifteen Kingdoms', but who knows...

'Boil? Who boils venison?'

'Oh, you have no idea,' Mudel says. 'Brother makes a great venison stew.'

'Yes, and we have bamboo shoots and...' but, on hearing bamboo shoots, you have a little fugue and miss out on the rest of their delicious ingredients. What the hell do these two do, anyway? Do they just stick around and cook?

'No, I think we should grill it. If you don't mind.' You say, curtly, and both the men give you a strange look before nodding. They are cutting bits off the belly of the deer, and then moving down to the shoulder, no doubt preparing meat for the grill; but you have little interest in joining them, suddenly.

Bamboo shoots. Sara. Your village... you shake your head to clear the thoughts and then go into the hide, where Stellius is wrapping his shoulder finally.

'Stellius?'

'What?'

Despite your... suspicions, you decide not to say anything or to impose much of a condition on Stellius. What you do note, though, even as you are holding the bandage for him, is that his arm is wiry but not particularly bulky. You'd be a fool to think he's weak, though. If he can throw a dart eighteen paces and stab right into your hip...

'Hey,' he says. 'I'm done.'

You let go. 'So, that spear. Do you reckon it's killed the deer by now?'

'I suppose.'

'So we could track it down?' You sit down beside him. The pain in your leg has lessened quite a bit with the tight binding, which is nice. 'Also, do you do all the hunting and the watching work? What do the two of them do?'

'They...' Stellius shrugs. 'To be honest, neither of them knows how to fight very well. But they did save me in the hill before. Mudel is a good cook, and Rilius is a good woodsman... and I suppose in a fight, they do all right.'

He points to two axes - wood chopping tools - and you have a feel of how those two aren't, perhaps, the greatest martial partners. But cooking's quite an important skill...

>>
'But if that's the case, then why do you stick around with them? I mean, cooking's nice and all, but... you're the one who does most of the hunting, right?'

'They gather the other foods as well, the vegetables and fruits. And they're the ones who trade with the village... well, over the last two years they've been the ones doing that.'

To be sure, neither of those is indispensable. You could learn to do that, as could Stellius. But what he leaves unsaid, you think you understand. Two years of wandering together in the wilds breeds a certain sort of loyalty, no doubt.

Maybe you shouldn't be pushing this on your first day out. 'So they're the mouths that you have to feed, kind of.'

'Not really. They do a lot of feeding too. But they're quite... chary of doing the actual work of a bandit.' He shrugs. 'Decent people, basically.'

Who isn't decent to start with? 'So, Stellius?'

'Hm?'

'Do you want to go do something tomorrow?'

'What do you have in mind?' He says. 'We're both injured, but if you're confident...'

'If you haven't noticed, or smelled now, there's an entire deer outside. We're not going to finish that in a few days.'

'Yes, but how about emergency supplies? Or perhaps for trading?'

Stellius's grey eyes turn to you. 'Trading with the villagers? Are you considering doing Rilius and Mudel's job?'

'Well-'

'What *are* you considering, Ephidel?' He gets to his feet, looming over you, almost threateningly. 'What are you thinking about?'

'Hey, watch the bloody fire!' You hear Rilius say from outside as Mudel cackles.

'Or, well, we could go and wait along the path for travellers. You want to be a bandit, don't you? I'm a bandit too. So let's do some banditry.'

'Answer my question, damn you.' He looks receptive to the idea of going for some banditry, almost as if it's something he's yearning to do; but still you are on the hook.

'Look. Take your bloody paranoia, and shove it.' You get to your feet too, although a little more falteringly. 'What the hell are you scared about anyway?'

'What are you talking about?' He lowers his voice to a hiss, but outside you can hear Rilius and Mudel talking and chatting and laughing, unsuspecting.

'Are you scared of peeling off from your brothers? They're not even your real brothers.' You gesture outside, lowering your voice as well, leaning forward to threaten Stellius right back. Damned if they think they can cow you into being a quiet follower. You already know that of the three of them, Stellius is by far the most skilled. You think.

'Do you know what-'

'Of course I know what I'm saying. And what I'm suggesting is this. Tomorrow we go and hunt, or we waylay some travellers. Then you'll know that neither of us is going to need those two. We don't have to harm them, but we don't need to stick with them and just hang out in the hills.'

Stellius opens his mouth, but then closes it again and sits down, sullen. You do too, just focusing on the aromas from outside. 'It's almost ready!'

'Ephidel.'

'What?'

'If we're going to launch an attack tomorrow,' Stellius says, 'we need to scout things out quickly. And do it tonight. We'll check the inns, and the villages, to see if anyone's staying over. And wait at the road in case some nutcase is wandering around at night.'

'We could. Do you have a robe or cloak or something like that?'

'I do. Don't you?' He shrugs. 'You're out of luck, then. Maybe grab one if you're so good at grabbing things.'

Heading outside, you see the merry fire over which several large hunks of venison are being grilled, and Rilius gives you a big, round leaf onto which a hunk is placed. It's a little unwieldy for your hands, but it smells so good that that doesn't matter too much. You eat quietly, listening to the other three talk about... normal things.

'So, you lost your spear, Stellius?'

'Ask this man.'

'I said I was going to make a new one,' you say, at which the two men laugh.

'So, Ephidel, how did you come by this line of work? Or would you rather not say?'

The image of your home going up in flames comes to mind again and you look away reflexively from the fire.

Your expression must be quite sombre, since the conversation dies with that question. Well, no need to rush into a reply, as usual. You take a long while even to shrug.

'I don't quite want to talk about it. Fell on hard times, that's all.'

Stellius gives you a sidelong look. Rilius nods.

'Anyway,' you continue, 'I don't intend to stay like this forever.'

'What, as a poor man, or as a bandit?'

'Both, perhaps. To be rich and powerful - that would be good...'

You don't really say much else, and neither does Stelli, which is what the other two call him. They talk and talk until you give up and go back to sleep, only to realise there is no hole against the night chill, only the ground and a woven pillow. Wait, this is...

Looking around in the hide, you see Stellius sleeping, sitting up. The pillow might have been from him.

...

You manage a half-night without any nightmares, and wake up at the sign of a little movement within the hide. Rilius is snoring loudly, and Mudel is curled up in one corner, twitching every now and then. But Stellius is already on his feet, and moving out.

Wait a minute. If he's going scouting with you, and it's about time now, why is he going out alone? You close your eyes when he leans close to you. 'Mm,' you hear, and then he steps away. There's a certain urgency in Stellius's steps...

Your eyes adjust quickly to the darkness, and there's enough starlight for you to make out Stellius heading down the rocks in the same direction from which you came. He doesn't seem to be particularly careful about keeping stealthy, tramping on the leaves; on the contrary there's a little urgency about his movements.

It's not difficult to track him this way, and soon you realise he's headed for - wait. Stellius is not wearing his hood now, but there's still something behind his head, and soon you realise it's hair, dark brown or black hair. A few more paces, and you find him at an oak tree, where he stops. You hide behind another tree and watch Stellius put both hands together.

'Pardon me, old one, I'm driven by necessity,' Stellius whispers. Then you watch as he turns his back to the tree and pulls his trousers down. His bared legs are surprisingly pale, and then he squats, and-

You blink, and then suddenly a sense of decorum strikes you. Are you really sitting here watching a young woman peeing in the woods, you bloody pervert? You really should get out of here-

Moving back, you feel something under your foot coming loose and quickly turn around to see a pebble about to be kicked away onto a whole bunch of pebbles just below you. You didn't notice this about your vantage point, that you've basically climbed up against the roots of a tree to peep (unknowingly). But you manage to grip the pebble before it rolls, and then flatten your back against the tree when you hear Stella stand up.

Stellius your *arse*. She's a Stella, no doubt about it. She quickly tramps back up, muttering something, and you strain to hear her say something about the 'ambitious kid' and how 'he might be helpful'. Like you're here just to *help* her...

'Eh,' you gesture vaguely, 'nature called. Don't want to get caught short while doing recce, do we? Where'd you go?'

'Uh... the same,' she says, adjusting her face cloth. Right. Now you're curious. If she's so insistent on wearing the cloak and hood and facecloth, as she is now, then there's only two possibilities - she's either really ugly, or really, really pretty. Hmm. Well, you know which you'd rather be, but...

'Same as me, then? A nice squat under a tree - the best way to relieve the nerves, eh?'

Her eyes widen momentarily, then frown. Hehe. 'Well. Are you ready or not? Do you want to hit the inn first, or should we go for the village? The first one is quite a distance, but it's got a higher chance of having lone travellers who got stuck outside a village.'

'Is there anywhere else, like on the other side?'

'You know there's a monastery there then, don't you?' Stella shrugs. 'They take guests too. That's a possibility...'

'Have you been to the monastery before?'

'Are you really suggesting we go to a house of the Gods for your first raid?'

'It's not my first, and this isn't a raid, is it? We're just looking for possible victims...'

Again Stella looks like she's about to shoot something back, but this time she shuts up and merely shakes her head for a while. 'Fine,' she says, finally. 'Let's go.'

From your vantage point, the path to the monastery is a relatively smooth one; the hill slopes quite gently on its westward slope, and the monastery's walls are built on the foothills as well. You are about halfway there, and just as Stella points out the approximate position of the buildings - her finger jabbing into the gloom - you spot something, torchlight.

Both of you squat for a while, watching the patrol pass about forty or fifty paces away. There's two of them on foot, and one on horse, and Stella looks intrigued.

'Normally it's just a single acolyte with a staff.'

'That horseman is definitely carrying a sword,' you whisper back.

'I saw. Someone big is in the monastery...'

Now more cautious, you dodge another patrol before getting a view of the monstery in the distance. Oh... wow. There are two long buildings in the rear which are dark, as are the chapels to the Threefold Gods, but the main hall is brightly lit. The walls are, fortunately, also dark.

'Those are the stables, just outside the walls,' Stella points. 'We can check the horses and look for travellers. But then it's pretty clear now...'

'So it is.' You consider your options.

'Are those the servants' and laymen's quarters?' You point to another square-ish building, and Stella nods. 'Those must be empty, if the hall is lit...'

'You thinking of looting a place where monks live?' Stella glances at you. 'You really haven't a clue, have you, Ephidel?'

'Well, counting horses won't do us a fuckload of good either will it, Stellius?' You snap back. 'Right now, looking at that monastery, we both know where's the place with the most money and goods.'

'Yeah. I agree with that.' She sighs. 'Are we going to try and find a way in, then? There's a side gate here somewhere which is unlit, I know. There's also the main gate, but you can do that yourself because I like staying alive.'

'Or we could go over the walls, perhaps.' You lead the way, ignoring the ache in your leg - wait, wait, the dart isn't really poisoned, right? - and manage to close to a few trees near the wall. You know a fort hasn't seen a war in a long time whe there's trees growing up to fifteen paces of the walls... that thing is perhaps fifteen foot high.

Stella hisses and grabs you when you step out, and you quickly dodge back, seeing the group of men - without torches - as they march past under the walls.

'Pay attention, fucking hell,' she hisses.

'You sure care a lot about me,' you grin exaggeratedly at her. The men - twelve of them in all, who must have gone around for the hundredth time - pass, and as they move out of sight, you beckon her onwards towards the walls.

The portion you're at seems sturdy enough, but you walk a short distance down and soon find something - a place where, stupidly, people who must hvae been repairing the walls or repairing the ditch around it piled the spoil up *right against the wall*. This has allowed for a pile of vegetation and soil to grow up nearly halfway up the wall. From there, you could easily sit on shoulders and get up.

Both of you rush up, then lean back against the wall listening for sounds. There is plenty of sound from inside, but nothing, you think, on the walls. Quickly, you hoist Stella up, after which she hauls you up with just one arm, you grabbing her neck to pull yourself up.

'Ow ow ow ow!'

'Sorry.' You lie on the wall, looking at her. Her eyes are quite beautiful, it has to be said, now that you know she's a girl. But just then, you hear footsteps, and both of you freeze. Someone's coming up the stairs, on the inside, and they're not that far from where you are...

> ... I'll take that critical!

It's so dark, and both of you are already kind of in the shadows, so by some instinctive alignment both you and Stella immediately move to lie flat on either side of the wall, against the parapets. You on the inside, and she on the outside.

The footsteps are soon followed by voices, laughing and talking, and then two silhouettes - a man, clearly, and a woman whose hair is loose. Both of them scale the wall, and then the man embraces the woman from behind, eliciting a squeal as both of them topple over.

'Oh God, stop it, Lannet!'

'I can't, girl, you know I can't...' more laughter, soon punctuated by kissing and muffled moans. You have front row seats to Lannet, mounting the girl from behind and embracing her. Then you turn to Stella, who rolls her eyes, and stifle a laugh. 'Man, I'm going to shower you in riches, you know that?'

'Where do you get your riches from?'

'Well, I'll tell you a secret,' Lannet says, between kisses and the sound of cloth being pulled around. It's a bit too dark to see much, but you can see the woman's body getting paler, which must mean it's getting more and more undressed. It's a little chilly on the walls for this, but neither of them seem to care. 'I know where the steward and chamberlain keep their personal trove. They've gotten a big portion of stuff ready to bribe the Abbot with, you know...'

'What, reall- Ah, AH!'

He covers her mouth as she moans. Oh come on, never mind the fucking, tell us where it is! 'Yes,' he breathes, in between grunts as he no doubt is getting started on the act. 'I know... just where it... is.'

It suddenly occurs to you that you might not know where he's talking about even if he blurts it out while fucking. The only sure way to get him to the treasure is, to, well, get him to the treasure... Stella seems to have the same thought.

Stella winces as the girl lets out another cry of pleasure. 'Ohh, fuck me, fuck me hard!' She seems about to move (Stella, not the girl, who's already moving), but you quickly shake your head.

Her eyes widen. Why?

You move your hand a little. Wait.

To be honest, you could have acted a proper silent play now and it's unlikely the two of them would notice from five paces away. Lannet and his lover rut away, oblivious to the world, the chilly air, the two spectators, the fact that they're in a monastery, and amazingly they do manage to carry on some sort of conversation between the humping and grunting and panting.

'It's... in the... the... uh... uh, uh, ah...'

'The where?! Ah!'

'The... drawing room... of the left... chapel! Oh god, I'm-'

Thankfully Lannet covers her mouth and his own too as they both finish up nicely, and then he collapses on her and turns around, holding her away from the wall. The woman's tits - nice tits, mind - are exposed to the air, as they giggle.

And that's when you nod, and both of you stand up and walk over to the two of them. It takes a while before they notice you. The girl is about to scream, but you squat and cover her mouth, watching her tits heave violently as she pants in fear.

'W-what?' Lannet says, arms still holding his girl.

'What is a very good question,' you say. But before you can say more, Stella steps in.

'First things first. What've you got on you? Let go of her.'

Lannet quickly throws the girl aside with a little squeak, and you admire her back until Stella throws the gown back on her and she gets dressed, sobbing in fear all the while. You're a little sorry for her. This is a bit of a downer after the previous experience. Still... Lannet reaches for his belt and grabs the dagger, but then you grab yours and put it to his neck and he drops it. It's actually a pretty nice looking dagger.

Then comes the coin purse, both his and hers. The girl's fully dressed by now, well kinda, and Stella pulls her to her feet. 'No, please don't, Lannet, save me!'

Lannet seems very disinclined to try. 'What do you want? Don't hurt me.'

'You mentioned where some amount of money is.' You say, leaning close, your knife still drawn. 'Now. It'd be very nice if you could show us where it is. Or she gets it.'

'Then go ahead and kill her,' he says with a shrug, and she gasps in shock. 'But let me go, please. I can't... take that money.'

Stella, on hearing that, quickly presses her knife against the girl, who begins blubbering incoherently for God, Lannet and dad and mum to save her. Poor thing! But Stella does no more, and you can tell she's just trying for a response.

And - fucking hell - Lannet is not really responding. He looks at the girl he's just had sex with, and then glances at you. 'Look. You know what's coming for you if you're found here. There's no way you can get to the left chapel.'

'Looks like the girl doesn't work,' you say to Stella.

'Get on with it,' she hisses. On that cue, you turn around and put your whole body into a backhand that sends Lannet sprawling on the stones, face down. The slap isn't loud; you turned your hand into a fist. But you're pretty sure it hurt. Before Lannet can recover, you put a knee on his shoulder from behind and pull his head up by his hair.

'Ow ow! Aaaugh!'

'So let's try a new deal. How about, if you don't bring us to the left chapel, I gut you messily here and now? I could finish you before the guards come.'

'Fine, fine, I'll get you there!' You drag him to his feet, but he shakes you off and points. 'Just... come with me...'

He leads you down the stairs, you following him and Stella covering the girl, and then takes a relatively quiet detour, passing two or three servants who crouch and look away once they see Lannet. Who is this guy? But whoever he is, he points to a building about thirty paces away. 'That's the left chapel. The reading room is in the basement. Go and get what you want and leave. Let me go now...'

'No, friend, you're leading us to the treasure itself,' Stella cuts in. Which makes sense... Lannet shakes his head and walks up to the unguarded chapel.

You are almost at the chapel's side entrance when suddenly Lannet makes a move. Turning and trying to backhand you, he then misses and runs anyway, raising his hand and prepared to yell for the guards or for help.

Well, he would, if Stella hadn't thrown the girl aside and then flung herself directly at him, sailing across the air and catching him right in the ribs. 'HE-Oooof' is all he manages to say, before he's wrestled to the ground and you run over to grab the girl.

'Shhh. No, really, we're letting you go in a minute,' you cover her mouth as she shakes her head.

Lannet is forced into the chapel, and eventually into the basement, where the catacombs are placed on either side - racks of boxes with dead bodies in them. Well, nice they have places to sleep when so many of the living don't. But eventually you get to the reading room, and enter it.

Stella sits on Lannet, and you lock the door and drag the girl over to a cloth-covered table, which you sweep open and- holy fucking *shit*.

'What the...'

'Wow,' you say, looking at what's before you. 'This is good.'

> Loot roll (on my side): 89. Beginner's luck, mate.

How much of a bribe does the Abbot need? What on earth does an Abbot need all this stuff for? With a cursory check, you can identify several boxes of coins, most of them silver coins, with some that look gold. Then there are one or two boxes of precious stones - pearls, aquamarines, even something that might be a sapphire.

Then you move on to uncover some of the other things, bulkier items of art, and gasp at one of the things you see. Pulling it out... oh yes! It *is* a brown cloak! For some reason it's soft and stretchy, yet it somehow feels resilient. Turning it around, you see the inside is trimmed a dark blue, and threaded with what looks like silver threads. This is... this is *gorgeous*.

There's only one problem. You're not really going to take too much of this before you lose the ability to climb... well, anywhere. And Lannet is getting increasingly restive...

... right. Right. No. There's so many ways you could do this. But right. Let's see. Thinking quickly, you spread out the cloak you're taking and grab a handful of silver coins, before picking through the gems. You don't really know what they're about! But you take the medium sized ones, those that could probably slip through the fencers easily in a town.

'So, Lannet, what the hell are you anyway?'

'I'm the squire and the secretary to the chamberlain of His Lordship the Count of Saudemar, who owns all this. And who will no doubt take pleasure in roasting you alive when he tracks you down.'

'I'm sure he will. We can all dream, eh?' You grab a few rings and then set your eyes on a pearl the size of an eyeball. Right, you're having that. Tying up the bundle, you then go to hold Lannet down while Stella goes to grab another robe of her own, this one a probable marten coat that must cost a fortune in itself. 'And who's the girl?'

'I-I'm his chief maid...' she stammers. You wonder how much she'd be worth in the slave market, and just then Stella fills up her own pelt.

'Right. Let's go.' She then takes a nearby scabbard and raises it, about to clobber Lannet.

> Okay. What do with Lannet and the girl? You... really aren't sure you can ferret either of them over the walls. The girl might fetch a good slave price, if you can find a slaver, but is it worth the risk...?

> 94, 90: You guys really are cut out for a life of crime.

'Go ahead,' you nod, and Stella brings the scabbard down, knocking Lannet out. The girl whimpers and protests, but you knock her out as well and drag her to the table, seating her against it. You take two fistfuls of gems and stuff them into Lannet's vest.

'That might get them both hanged, if not worse,' Stella says.

'You reckon you'd prefer it if we get hanged instead, then?' You snap back, and she glares at you but concedes. You're pretty certain now that there are people upstairs, so you'll have to sneak up...

... except there's an acolyte right outside, whose back is mercifully turned when you open the reading room. You sneak up to just within range when he turns around, and then grab his head and bang it against the pillar, knocking him out. Damn! Ascending the stairs, you run into another acolyte, whom you grab and turn around while Stella knees him right in the face.

Leaving the fourth person slumped in your wake, you let Stella out of the chapel first and run for it, the bundles not really obstructing you. Of course, with your hand on this, you can't really use a bow, so... you're almost retraced your steps successfully and are heading for the stairs when, suddenly, a loud drum starts beating at the chapels.

'Fuck, the alarm!' Stella glances at you, and then the drum is joined by another. And then by a gong. And then by people beginning to yell as you quickly dodge behind a building. The steps you went up by is near the mound of dirt, but also nearer the great hall and the guest quarters. There has to be a quieter staircase, but without that safe drop from the wall...

'Back. Back!' You gesture towards the darker, less inhabited end of the monastery, but Stella is already running. Fuck, you can't run as quick as-

Reaching out, you grab her back from the corner and she thuds into your arms as your hunch proves accurate. Several acolytes, spooked by the alarm, are running past the building, and if Stella had kept on running she'd be within line of sight. But having her in a semi-embrace is good, too, until she elbows you.

'Let's go.'

There is, thank Gods, a staircase, and you rush towards it and up; but just as you reach the top of the wall you sense movement behind you and this time it's a bit too late to sprawl out. You turn around just in time to see a guard emerge from one of the watch towers, glancing to his right...

... and then to his left, where you're both standing maybe 3 paces away. His eyes widen. You bet Stella's did too.

The only thing you can think to do is to draw your dagger and then, forgetting that your bundle cloth is ITSELF an important piece of loot, swing it at the guard while charging. The guard recovers quickly, though, and dodges the swing before drawing his sword.

'Oi!' Stella yells, but you're a bit too occupied to turn to her. 'Just jump!'

... fuck, that's a good idea! Bit too late, though! You dodge to the side as the guard swings vertically at you, and then do the next best thing, flinging the loot bundle off the wall where you'll hopefully join it later. But that movement throws you off balance; the bag is a bit heavier than you think!

You stagger away from another attempted slash, but just as your bundle THUMPS against the mud below, you get a good hard kick in the side which sends you sprawling. You get up just in time for him to miss a kick, which sends him off balance and allows you to sit up next to the parapet...

You really ought to grab your chance and just jump, but then... thinking quickly, you grab the foot of the guard while it's still aloft and pull, dragging him off balance. Then he gives a roar of pain as you plunge your knife into his calf and out again.

Turning around, you have just enough time to see another two guards emerging from a nearby tower, before you vault over the parapet and fall...

... Directly into the ground, chest first, knocking all the air out of you. PFFFT- you roll around and curl up, catching your breath, but the fear and excitement makes you recover quickly and you get up to see that WHERE IS YOUR FUCKING ROBE AND LOOT!?

You dash to that spot, glance up at the walls, and then quickly dash the rest of the way into the woods, running between the trees blindly until suddenly a hand grabs you. 'Woah-'

'Woah-' Stella gets dragged along by your momentum as you fall again, this time on your back, so she's on her hands and knees. But quickly you reach for your knife before realising it's her. 'Wait, wait. Me. Pretty good at running, you.'

'Have you got my fucking-'

'Yes, yes.' She rolls it at you, then adjusts her facecloth. 'The whole hill will be crawling, no doubt...'

They did good by us. No guarantee they won't be tortured and killed by angry rich folk if they catch them innawoods

Alright guys, this is the moment. We've had a good run with Stella and her crew but it's time we do the right thing, the FUN thing and betray them. Whack Stella in the back of the head with our bow, square in the back. Successfully knock her unconscious and proceed to have our way with her, we have to go through with it. We could run to the nearest town and start life-a-new with our riches. We'll have even more stories and Stella's group could act as a temporary villain until their inevitable defeat.

>>29040814

Didn't mean to roll.
>>
>>29040809

Second this.

But we will abandon them eventually. Those two haven't helped. They don't deserve a share of the loot we got.

Alright, we'll do what everyone else is doing.

'Yeah, no doubt,' you say, watching as Stella turns around and bends over to pick up the two bundles of your loot. Now that you know she's a girl, the sight of her bent over, her lithe, strong legs going up to a full arse, make you feel slightly excited.

This is your chance. Two bags of treasure. And a hot girl in the bargain. You just need to whack her hard in the back with the bow and knock her out. Possessed by that strange thought, you grab your bow and advance on her, admiring that taut backside as she moves. Oh man, if you could-

Then, suddenly, Stella looks up and darts around, eyes fixed on you - striding forward, bow in the air held by two hands.

> cont'd.
>>
>>29040966

Oh shit, niggie.
>>
>>29040966

'... what the hell are you doing?'

'What, me?' Fuck, fuck, fuck! But she then straightens up with the bags of loot, slinging one over her shoulder as you quickly keep your bow. 'N-nothing.'

'It's not nothing. You need help, is it?' She makes you hold the other bag, with your cloak, and then puts her arm around your shoulder and yours on hers, coaxing you to lean on her. 'I thought you could sprint all the way up,' she says, as guilt burns you from inside. You had thought to knock her out and rape her! 'What, crying uncle now? Don't drop your bag of loot, eh?'

'No...'

'And don't touch my fucking shoulder wound!' She jerks and hisses at you. 'You really haven't a clue, have you, Ephidel?!'

'That seems to be a tendency, yes...' you limp along, enjoying leaning against her without letting on that you're aware Stella is a woman. 'Stellius?'

'What?'

'We ought to warn the brothers, right?'

'Of course.' She turns to you. 'What do you mean warn? We'll have to run with them. Those people might well bring dogs up to hunt us, and then it's curtains. We need to run about now. I'm just not sure what they'll feel that we left them out on the raid...'

'But?'

'But I'm glad we did it. That was quite... fun.' She says it like it's something she hasn't done in a while, or maybe ever. You think she's smiling under that face cloth...

Soon you're near the hide. The deer innards are buried, the meat is stored away... somewhere.

> What do/say?
> Also, do you plan to abandon Rilius and Mudel soon? If so, when?
> What are your other near term plans like? Stella seems reasonably impressed by your abilities. Also, phat, phat loot.

Near plans; try to hire some mercs with the money from the raid, attempt to establish a proper bandit company. Go big or go back to the mountains!

Other plan: if we still have the girl, try to question her for what skills she might have. If interesting, let her ransom herself from slavery and serve us instead.
>>
>>29041135

The girl is gone, sadly, we knocked her out and left her behind. I am interested in the the bandit company though, I think we should begin spitballing names.
>>
>>29041135

Agree with hiring, but no mercs. Those people only go to it for the money, and will dissolve if we falter.

Let's go to nearby villages and recruit from those. Inexperienced, but strong and young and trainable. And they'll be naive and loyal.
