> New Year's Eve? Wassat?

You consider the question of the feast as Stella rests her head on her hands, keeping still - waiting for you to massage her. 'Do you think it should be a lavish feast?'

'I don't see why we couldn't make it a lavish affair, if you want,' she murmurs. Meanwhile you shift and lay your hands on her shoulders, feeling the contours of her shoulderblades and those firm, supple muscles. As you knead, Stella makes a cute purring sound. 'Mmm.'

'It's all very tense. Loosen up.'

'I'm trying to-' then you move your fingers around her underarm to knead there, and she suddenly jumps and bursts into giggling fits. 'Don't!'

'You're ticklish? Really?'

'What's wrong with that?!' She looks up at you, still laughing. 'Watch it! Anyway... so if you want to prepare a lavish feast, we should probably take a few days to secure the grain and supplies. And then maybe we should... get meat? And, I don't know... spices of some sort? Man, I've never held a feast before... mm. Oh, that's nice.'

You pause. Your hands are on the small of Stella's back now, feeling the little arch and then the slope up to her rump. Subtly, you tug on her shirt to reveal just a little skin. She doesn't seem to mind...

> Slip under the shirt.
> Massage her behind.
> Other.

> Also, let's talk about the feast. How lavish do you want it to be? Who do you wish to invite? You don't have to send your men to buy grain, for instance - you could invite the village chiefs up, if you want.
>>
>>29182766

> Slip under the shirt.

I think maybe we can invite a few village leaders. Get them to come up here, get them drunk, then threaten them to sell their grain to us for cheap.

We'll offer them 100 silvers to buy 2 months' grain each. If there's like three or four village elders who'll come, we'll have grain all the way to summer.

Also invite nearby hamlets here then tell them to join us.

You pause for a while after pulling the shirt up, wondering where you should go, and after a few moments Stella looks up, making you shrink back. 'Eh? Sorry...'

'Hmm?' Is she feigning ignorance? Surely she's felt you moving on her, but... 'well. Anyway, I don't know what you're after in this feast anyway, so I don't suppose I could give too much advice. Are we trying to pull a recruitment thing? Get the surrounding hamlets to join us, maybe? Or what?'

An idea enters your mind. 'Well. You see, the thing is, I was wondering if we could get some of those village chiefs up to join us. According to the map, we could easily invite 5 nearby village elders up here... we'll get them a little drunk, you know, and then-'

'Ephidel,' Stella interrupts you, her body twitching a little. Then you look down and realise your hands are already under her shirt, pushing them up along with you as you massaged your way up her back. You pause just a moment, then continue moving, sliding over her smooth, warm skin on its way upwards. She really is beautiful, this woman, and she's not objecting to your caresses.

'So... what do you think of the plan?' You continue pushing up and move the shirt up until it's bunched around her shoulders and tits. Now you knead her shoulder, except there's nothing between you and her, and it's a lovely feeling.

'It's... nice...' she giggles a little. 'My shoulders *are* tight, aren't they?'

Tight, and warm, and shapely, and beautiful, and several other compliments you can't think of off the top of your head.

'I think it should be a recruitment as well as a feeding thing,' you say, taking Stella's silence as consent to continue exploring her. Applying pressure gently, you knead your way down from her shoulder, down her ribcage and past the soft, relaxed flanks, until you reach her hips. She shudders a little when your fingers find her hip bone.

'Mm. Then maybe we should... invite the elders first. So before you began molesting me, did you mean to say you wanted to threaten them into yielding up grain?' Stella sounds a little dreamy by now, enjoying your caresses.

'Yeah, that's what I had in mind.' You follow her curves back up, feeling yourself grow quite aroused. Well, you'd hardly be a man if you weren't... Stella gasps slightly when you move against the hem of her trousers, feeling the underpants she's wearing there, but still she doesn't move when you graze it lightly. 'Also, I was thinking we ought not to hold the feast in this hamlet.'

'Eh? Then where do you want to hold it? It might be a bit too much, mmm, to ask people to sit in the open and eat, no?' She's breathing a little faster now. You retrace your steps back up and down her shapely form.

'We should probably build a fort,' you suddenly blurt out. Stella twists around to look at you, just as you lean forward a little and practically embrace her half-naked body from behind. She does smell of sweat, and fatigue, but also a certain womanly scent. 'If we're serious about becoming bandits, we'll need that.'

'Are you serious?' Stella murmurs. Your hands move up to where her shirt is all bunched up, pressing against her soft breasts from below, and you're not very sure what she's referring to. Probably the fort.

'Yeah. Well, we can't stay here for too long, can we? We haven't got the men or women to defend this place, it's hidden but too open if discovered. We're simply lucky Kevo didn't find us... and we're *very* lucky right now that whoever those raiders and rapists were, they didn't find us either. But it's only a matter of time.'

'I've been thinking of that as well,' Stella says. 'Why don't you move over so that you aren't twisted around?'

She's inviting you to straddle her... well, you do, then move back to her shoulders. 'Yeah? You have any ideas?'

'One, actually. You know this creek we're drinking from? Have you ever considered tracing its source?' Then she chuckles. 'Because I did, and I did the tracking. And you wouldn't believe it.'

'Where does it lead?' You begin fumbling with her shirt, making your intentions clear, and Stella props herself up, sighing happily. You need only roll the shirt up a bit... hands grazing the undersides of her globes, you gasp.

'Shall I tell you later?'

'Boss? Boss! Something's happened!'

The voice from outside makes both of you turn, and Stella quickly tries to sit up. 'Get off!'

'Wait, wait-' Gods damn it, your hands are already *there*! Reluctantly you move away and pull her shirt back down while you're at it, rolling off your perch. Stella sits up and straightens herself out as you rush out to see Sarius standing there.

'Yeah? What's up?' You glance over her, and see that the camp is tense; even the ladies are grabbing their bows. Uh...

'We just heard screams from over northwards,' Sarius points. 'Very close. I think there's been another raid!'

You grab your bow, run out past the smoke of the fires being quietened down, and listen. Then you hear it again - screams, and some laughter. That hamlet! That one's not 200 paces from here, you know which it is. Damn!

> Follow me! To the rescue!

'Yeah.' You check your equipment - daggers, shortsword, bow. 'Right. All the men! And Stella. Get ready, we'll have to-'

'Are you sure it's wise to go? We'll give ourselves away,' Stella begins, but you cut her off.

'I have no problem with killing and robbing people. But what those people do go way beyond that. We *have* to stop them. How many people are there roughly?'

'I went to check,' Orvo jogs to keep up as your whole line of 15 men begin moving out into the forest, headed for the hamlet. Damn. A few days ago they even sold you some cloth and you gave them meat in return, for which they were so grateful... 'there're about 15 of them as well.'

'Noooo! Nooooo!' You hear someone wail in the forest. You're almost there! That hamlet is bounded by a stand of trees on its north, but open to the other three sides. When you come within visual range, the place is already burning and clogged with smoke, but you're sure people are alive. You're hearing them getting tortured and raped, after all.

Time is of the essence; you understand that to rush in will probably have a better chance of saving whoever's still alive and hollering their guts out right now. But to be honest, you're no longer so sure those people are saveable...

On the other hand, damaging those raiders, that's one thing you can do. 'People! Split up! Sarius to the left, Orvo to the right! Attack once you're ready!'

Taking a few men each, they melt into the forests, and then you are forced to stand there and listen to men scream and women beg for mercy and/or death for what feels like an eternity. Fuck, maybe that wasn't the ideal choice? One man eventually falls silent, then a woman, and a man gives a horrible howl of agony before falling quiet too. Stella grits her teeth.

'Where the fuck are-'

'UAAAAAR!'

'There!' You nock an arrow, aiming at one of the raiders who's just pulling his pants down. Thankfully you can't see the woman he's looking at, but a moment later, he can't either - there's an arrow in his eye. The others look up at the attackers, and Stella yells.

'CHARGE! DEATH!'

> 83, 82 (+20): An easy victory!

With their pants down or exhausted from lifting, and surprised by the ferocity of your attack, the raiders are immediately at a disadvantage. Crouching a little, Stella does yet another of her amazing leaps, and you see her bring down a man who's just reaching for his long wood axe, slicing his throat wide open and spraying blood everywhere.

Orvo, meanwhile, hacks the right leg off one of the raiders with a mighty swing, but then he gets jumped by a second man who is fortunately dragged off by one of yours. As he tries to recover, the man perforates him with his sword twice, and Orvo decapitates him.

But the most men are on Sarius' side, and now you see how good his swordsmanship is. He's holding off two men by himself as the others seek out foes, but then suddenly he slips on something and falls back. The first to attack him is impaled, but the second quickly rushes up, ready to strike!

You draw your bow when suddenly another sound, this one more familiar still, tugs at you. Stella's kicked someone away and then turned around to stab a second man, putting the shortsword right through his belly. But then a huge man, apparently the leader, runs in and bullrushes her, and she yelps in surprise and pain while crashing to the ground, the dagger in her other hand knocked to the ground...

> 91: Excellent shot!

You quickly step up, wishing they were close enough for you to try nocking two arrows together and shooting both; unfortunately, Sarius is a long way off, while Stella is just about 15 paces away. Clearly you have to help her first!

'Damnit!' Stella yells, and the yell then turns into choking as the huge man straddles her and wraps his hands around her throat. Her grey eyes bulge as she attempts to breathe, and you quickly steady your own breathing, aiming at the man's focused, slightly grinning face. The fucker's *enjoying* it - enjoying strangling someone.

Whoosh!

And then he isn't enjoying it anymore. The arrow plunges right between his eyes, and your bow is so powerful it shatters the skull on both sides, the arrow head pushing out the back of his bald head. His hands clench for the last time, then fall limp, and you rush up to see his eyes roll into their sockets. Then he slumps onto Stella, who shoves him off.

'Woah-'

You nock another arrow, remembering Sarius, but when you turn around it seems it's already solved. One of his brothers kicked that last person, then wrenched the weapon out of his hand and is about to kill him with it. It seems he's the last survivor, judging by the amount of blood all over the place.

You glance around you at the dead bodies and the men and women who have been strung up. A man is quietly choking as he hangs upside down, blood running from several chest wounds towards his face; the wounds aren't serious, but he could either bleed to death or drown. Another man's been tied to a rock and his pants pulled down; it seems they were about to castrate him just when you came. And then there's the women, tied or nailed to trees and mostly naked. Four men, two women who look salvageable. It could be worse.

'Orvo, Sarius! The survivors! Get them down!'

You then rush over to the struggling bandit and stomp on his left leg, making him holler in pain. As Stella comes up, you point downwards and kneecap him, the arrow smashing into the joint and making him scream and trash so hard he throws the guy off. 'Boss?'

'Leave it, I'll deal with him.' You put a knee against the man and Stella thrusts a dagger through his arms, pinning them together and over his head into the ground. He screams, fear filling his eyes. Not so rapist now, are we?

'Now.' You turn to the man, who's still yelling and bawling over the shot knee. 'I'm not so good at archery. A bit better at knife skills, though. Answer my questions properly, or I'll cut a bit of you off. You heard me? So how many trees did you pass on the way here?'

'What? I-AAAAUGH!' That's the thumb gone. He's useless for combat now. 'AUUUGH!'

'Nope, wrong. Does the creek bend to the left or the right near your camp?'

'I don't know, I AUUUUUGH! AUUUUGH!'

'Ephidel,' Stella nudges you. But you simply grin at him as people dig graves.

You cut off all the fingers on his right band before returning to him. 'Right. Serious question now. Where is your camp?'

'I... I...' he looks dazed. It takes some time to force the answer out of him. Apparently there's another two raiding parties out now. And another few brothers in camp. That comes up to around 70 or 80 men, must be. He tells you they are in a birch grove, uphill, near a white rock.

Stella sighs. 'I know where that is. Wolf Cub Rock. Not surprising they'd base there.'

You then find out there are two, maybe three more such raiding bands, all comprising refugees from the west who've taken up arms... he doesn't know what their stores are like, but says they are quite well fed. And they're well armed it seems. The boys are stripping light armour off some of the corpses. Apparently the leaders of some of those bands are former officers and soldiers.

Shit. This could be dangerous. You're dealing with a whole different league of experience here...

You want to ask a few more questions, but come think of it you can figure the answers to them yourself. If someone killed a raiding party of yours, how would *you* respond?

There's no doubt you'll just have to keep ready to defend yourself, that's all. You ask the man if they have set raiding schedules, and he gasps that they simply have scouts who go out to look for hamlets and other refugees, and then they come and destroy them.

'We've got to eat,' he says. 'So we take food.'

'You're taking a lot more than food. A beast wouldn't do this,' you point at the mutilated girl being laid to rest.

'They know what's happened to us now,' he says. 'People watch us. They know. They'll come and do the same to you...' he begins laughing. 'You think this is bad... we've done one village for four days once-'

You cut his throat at that, spurting blood in big gouts everywhere. He dies still grinning slightly.

'Bastard,' Stella says.

'Mmm.' Then you're slightly surprised when she puts an arm around your shoulder and presses her lips to your cheek momentarily. 'Eh?'

'Thanks. Good shot.'

The men come round with the survivors, who agree to take refuge in your band. Well, those who can speak do. The rest are just wide eyed in horror now... the mood is sombre when you return to the village and get ready to start your council.

Make this a weekly thing, yes.

Tell the people that there are raiders about. Yes, you're bandits, but you're bandits because you want to survive. These raiders are subhuman. They do more than try to survive, they do evil things because they're bastards, and they won't show any mercy to you. So don't show any mercy to them. They'll all have to work hard if they're to survive the coming year, but let them know that if everyone works together, you'll all make it, and nothing that happened to the other hamlets will happen here.

given the predicament I suggest we either ask the elders for help to our fort in/around the village or run for it. Given the force we will be up against and the fact that the village will be attacked in retribution as well as us we will need and can probably count on their support defending their homes. If we leg it the village will be sacked by a revenge force and they will try and hunt us down.

Yes, weekly.

"So, we've learned a bit about the Raiders, there's something along the lines of 70 to 80 of them, and they're camped out around white wolf rock, that's the bad news."

"The good news is we've killed 15 of them just now, it may cause something like poking a hornets nest, but we'll bleed them, hard before they ever find us if we play our cards right."

"On to better things, Sarius, I saw you fighting, you're good, you're trained, so you're in charge of training the men to use their new weapons, they did well today, but that was an ambush, I want them to be able to do that well every time, no matter the conditions. The womenfolk are going to need to step up their archery training as well, if we're attacked I want everybody fighting, make them kill you in combat instead of ending up like what happened in these villages."

"Anybody have any comments or any other issues that they feel should be attended to right now?"
>>
Nineteen men, and a handful of women, against eighty raiders. Bugger me.

I don't think there's any possible way we can win in a stand up fight, so we have to trick them, out maneuver them, bleed them, or starve them. Never close combat. Never fucking ever. The closest we ever should get to them is to take potshots with arrows we cover in our shit so they get sick and die.

How thick is the forest in these hills? I'm thinking we might be able to use fire against them.
>>
>>29188424

> ... I'm sorry, but I freely admit to having no idea what you're talking about. Which villages are these, the foothill villages? Why would they be attacked in retribution for something *you* did? Take the individual plates; at the very least, the cuirass, for ourselves. We're not a knight, we're terrible at close combat. Our strength is the bow, so let's focus on it.

Stella is better at fighting, but like us, her strength comes from her mobility and ranged capability. The armor should go to the heartiest melee fighters -- Orvo and Sarius, who also happen to be your lieutenants.
>>
>>29188517

> Right. Sorry, I hope you're not offended. I'm just rather puzzled. Welcome, by the way.

You put on your gravest face and face these people. You've spent nearly a month with them by now, come think of it - hunting, scrabbling for food, raiding, cooking, talking and laughing. They're your followers, but by now they're also somewhat your friends.

'I have grim news. We intercepted and slaughtered that band of raiders and rapists. But apparently we have been detected, and they will no doubt know now that a band exists that dares to resist them. Those people are monsters. Some of you were their victims. Others have seen what they've done to the victims. They are not humans.

'We are bandits, and we kill, but we have only done so in order to survive. Never have we treated men and women as toys for torture and rape and mutilation. But clearly there are enough madmen in these chaotic times to follow such tastes. I've been told there were about 80 people in that group of raiders-' your announcement is met by gasps- 'and that's just one of the groups. These people from the west are making use of chaos to take over the hill and wash it with blood and get rich in the meantime.'

'We cannot fight so many,' one of the women, who's pretty good at grilling deer, says.

'Maybe we should attempt to leave the hills?'

'No! Wait!' Stella steps up. 'I know a refuge we can use-'

'And how long will that keep us in these hills? They're cold and it's going to snow soon and there are flies and wolves and bears and now those... those people!' The crowd suddenly turns against Stella, who looks stunned. 'We ought to leave the hills!'

'Yes, boss! Let us find safety elsewhere!'

'If we leave the hills, Ephidel,' Stella whispers angrily in your ear, 'you know exactly what we'll find. Every rapist here has ten counterparts who follow the valley routes east and north.'

Damn. She's right.

> What do you say to the crowd? Shit, they're agitated. Then again they *are* farmers.
>>
>>29188644
Leave the hills for what? to be hunted down for some noblemans sport? to fall prey to some other bandit group as we travel? no, the only way to achieve safety is to take it for ourselves, I say we can fight these people, by stealth and trickery. We'll bleed them dry slowly but surely and take these hills as our own.
>>
Rolled 63

>>29188644
step in between Stella and the crowd, get them to hear her out, everything we've done has been for the benefit of our group, and will continue to be that way, lets hear Stella's idea, see how it is received, then form the council to further discuss and plan
>>
>>29188644
If we run, we die. We'll either starve, we'll be run down by soldiers, more raiders, or worse, we'd turn into the monsters ourselves. We've staked our claim here, and we can defend it. It's the only way we can survive. Things are bleak, but they can get a whole lot bleaker if we just up and leave. We've started a good community, here, and we can keep it going. This is going to be hard, fucking hard, but if we can get past this hurdle, you can guarantee everyone that they'll survive the winter.
>>
>>29188644
"more now than ever, it s important that we band together. I don't have the answers to every question that we have, but every day we work together is another day we live with our heads held high. I ask you trust me that I have our own survival as my primary interest, and that your own patience in this matter is not going without notice. Rest your heads tonight, and we will address the problems when the sun rises, together"
>>
>>29188644

Say something about how running from problems doesn't solve them, they ran from lords and their tax collectors only now to run from murderers and rapists. (maybe allude that metaphorically they are the same.) and that they need to rally with other local hamlets (that will surely be next on the chopping block) and over come the raiders together.

Where the hell do you intend to run when you leave the hills and the tax collectors find you? Or the nobles who will then grab the men to serve in the armies and for the women to be the army whores?'

'But at least we aren't facing those monsters! We've all seen what they do when they come to a hamlet, and-'

'And if they do, we will certainly die fighting!' You draw your shortsword and throw it onto the ground, where it hits the little wooden platform in front of your hide with a lout THUNK. Giving a growl of frustration, you throw your spare hatchet too, and it embeds in the wood as well.

'What the hell are you guys ranting and raving on about? A little threat to us, and instead of hanging together, all of you are considering your own hides? Do you think I intend for all of us to die, myself included? If we run, each of us is alone. We will be hunted down like dogs. But if we stand, then we stand together. And then we'll have a chance - against winter, and against those bastards. Stella had an idea, so for the Gods' sake hear her out.'

> cont'd.
>>
>>29188855
We are good at speaches it seems.
>>
>>29188763

I would also like to add that as soon as we a chance we need to make a trip to the blacksmith mentioned way back when and order some arrowheads, halberd/spearheads, caltrops, bucklers, maybe mail hauberks depending how expensive they are and one particularly exquisite spearhead (with a sedimental engraving of sorts?) made of fine steel for Stella. (This is to be kept a secret until we can find an appropriate time to present it to her.)

We should consider paying the blacksmith a little extra to keep his mouth shut and avoid drawing any unwanted attention our way.

In the meantime have some of our folk create punji stakes and gather stones that weigh in around 4-16oz each
>>
>>29188855

'Right.' Stella finally stands out, addressing the crowd. She still looks a little surprised at how they reacted; girl maybe has never been much with talking to lots of people... you wonder why you're thinking that so affectionately. Oh well. Anyway. 'You know the creek which flows past our hamlet. I've tracked that water uphill, all the way to its source, and that area is very good for fortification.'

'Where is that?' The calls are a good sign. At least they're paying attention. 'Is that far? And is it occupied?'

'Some of you may know that place. It's Tiger Rock, to the north. Not very far away - about three quarters of a mile - and very high up, so it's not occupied. Or it wasn't when I looked around three days ago. That place is surrounded on two sides by solid rock cliffs, and two sides by forest. If we chop down that forest, and build a wall across the gap, that is a fortress given to us by heaven.'

'But how much work will that be? It's winter, and we've only got enough grain to last us through half of it. And if we get attacked while building it, what then, boss?'

'Yeah, what then, boss?'

Well, that's the advantage of a council. At least you know what they're fearing. And you have to say - their fears are valid. Maybe that idea Stella and you had for a feast would not be amiss now...

> Right. So. It's time for action.

> There's only about a month left before winter is here in earnest, and it won't be pretty. You'll have to build up your fort, secure enough food to last the cold season, *and* not get attacked by the raiders. Not too keen on getting mutilated, thanks.

> That seems to be the most major task ahead of you now, to secure - and maybe to expand - your band. One band of raiders already has an idea that you exist, though they don't yet know where you *are*.

> So. What are your first moves? Plan on, bandits.
>>
>>29188951

This sounds good. We definitely need more weapons.

Maybe we can get the blacksmith up for the feast and cut a deal with him.
>>

>>
>>29189002

We'll have to probably go to the town to search. Sounds risky.

>>29188958

Let's get Sarius in charge of training people. Orvo will be in charge of defence and the watch.

Stella and us will go and scout out the tiger rock, and then go and invite the village elders. If we're moving house soon, we don't need to worry about the village knowing where we are. Then we blackmail them for grain.
>>
>>29188958
Scout out Tiger Rock more readily.
Send messengers to the other hamlets with warnings of raiders and offers of recruitments.
See if any other villages will sell grain.
>>
>>29188958

> Also, fuck. Clarification.

> Previously I said you had 1,150 silvers left. In fact you have some 1,600, but because last thread we agreed to set aside around 400 for buying grain, so I kept that in mind.

> So basically you have a 450 silver budget for purchasing food. Maybe if you blackmail them hard enough, you won't have to use it at all, wahey!
>>
>>29188958
"For the grain, we'll need to buy more, we've only bought from one village, we should be able to get plenty more from the others in the area."

"As for if we're attacked, well the womenfolk are going to need to step up their archery training, we'll be doubling the watches while we build that fortress, and we'll want as many ready to fight as we can manage while we work, Stella and I will also be scouting around for any signs of the raiders in our area, give us as much advanced warning as possible if they come, might even bleed them a little if we get a chance."

"We'll need to move quick though, our first priority is the palisade, then sturdy shelters, but we'll still need both when winter comes. and to help with that, I say we have ourselves a bit of a feast, invite some of our neighbors to join us as well as the local elders, see who might be willing to join our merry band and spread the workload a little."

Now that the mood of the crowd seems to have changed, from the initial fear to a certain calm resolve, you feel it should be safe to intervene and give your orders. Then you realise you're still wearing the light armour - metal-backed leather - that you looted from the hamlet just now. Oh yes, two more suits.

'Sarius,' you say, and the man steps up. 'The suit of armour is yours.'

'Oh. Thank you boss!' He eyes the slightly worn but still usable armour.

'I want you to be in charge of training. The fighting men must learn to fight with swords, axes, shortswords, daggers. We should make a few spears as well, and train them. The women are to continue their archery training. We need every fighting hand we can get.'

'Yes sir.'

'Orvo,' you say, getting into the flow of things and sounding a lot more authoritative. 'The other suit is yours.'

'Thanks, boss, but, uh...'

'What?'

'That's definitely too small.' Giggles from the crowd. He's probably right...

'Never mind, then. I want you to be in charge of the defence and the night watch. The watch is to be intensified. But do not run after scouts. We don't want to lose people to ambushes, we just need to know if they're on to us.'

'Certainly.'

'Also, I'm going to need you to send messengers out to the surrounding hamlets. There must be about five or six within easy walking distance. Make them offers to join us for safety. If possible... find the ones with more fighting men.'

'Definitely, sir.' Orvo actually salutes you, which makes you smile a little internally. Damn, you really bandit leader now.

> cont'd.
>>
>>29189169

'Stella.' You beckon to her. 'I want you to scout out Tiger Rock and prepare it as much as possible for us. I'll help you with that if you need help.'

'Of course, boss.'

'And as for the rest of you, brothers and sisters, I'm considering that we should hold a little festival like farmers do every late autumn. It'd be nice, wouldn't it?'

'Eh?' The surprise and joy in the crowd is palpable, and you grin. 'Oh, that would be good...'

'Yes. The bag of game has been a little sparse lately, but we'll have enough meat and there's plenty of grain. So we really ought to hold something nice.'

After the council, you go back to the hut with Stella, who starts preparing. Watching her dodge around, getting stuff in preparation for the scouting mission, you smile. Such a devoted companion - she's already on it the moment the order's down...

'What're you looking at?' She says this while bending to pick up her quiver, and you blink. Don't jump to conclusions, Stella! 'Don't you need to get anything?'

'Bow, firestarter, some rations and rope. What else?'

'Get a hatchet as well.'

'Yeah, sure. Are we really doing this right away, though? It's late afternoon, and the days are short. Maybe we should set off under cover of night, when you can see the route anyway, because you're a fucking genius.'

Stella pauses at that. 'Damn, you're quite right... so what should we do now?'

Glancing over, you see that Stella's lit a lamp, and in the lamplight you can also see that she's rather flushed. Is that blushing? She comes up and sits on the bearskin rug, knees touching you, and you take a little risk and put a hand on her thigh. Girl sits cross-legged, so very uncouth for someone of a good upbringing...

'You were taking advantage of me,' she says, putting her hand on yours. 'And now you're doing it again.'

'You know very well that you need only tell me to go away.'

'Well, go away then.'

Wait, what? *What*? Seriously, Stella? That's cold, girl, that's not... you grimace and try to pull away, but she's clamped down on your hand, keeping it on her thigh.

'Stella, I can't stop molesting you if you don't let go.'

'Well. I'm not letting go...' she shrugs. The pressure's still on your hand, but it lightens a little. Clearly this is a 'your call' moment.

'Fine,' you say back, and begin stroking her thigh, tracing it from knee up to her hip. Your thumb gives a little rub near her underpart, and Stella starts and giggles.

'Ooh, that-'

And that's when you spring up. Propping on the other arm, you sit up and grab her, then pull her down towards you. But Stella's reflexes are seriously quick; instead of simply falling down over you, she quickly braces herself against your chest and pins you down, face just above your face. No! Your hand! It's not in contact with-

'Trying a sneak attack, are we?' Stella grins and straddles you. You're pretty sure she can feel how, uh, excited you are, as she inches forward and then leans down to you. Again, you catch a flash of her cleavage, the creamy, freckled skin, before she kisses your forehead and you grab her head.

She tastes of meat and a bit of ale and a little sourness, and you wrap your arms tightly around her shoulders as she does the same for your neck, your tongues fencing and wrestling. You want to know what her teeth feel like, you want to caress her all over, then strip her and caress it all over once more... the wrestling seems to go on forever as your lips shower each other's face and neck with kisses...

'Ahh, you...' Stella holds you at bay for a moment and grins, then kisses you again before giggling. 'Oh man, I'm a bit tired.'

'Are you. Your tongue didn't feel tired,' you say in between more pecks and nibbles.

'I really am tired,' she murmurs, 'but damn, a fuck would be a nice idea now...'

Slumping against you, her hips rub against your cock and you feel her tits mashed against your chest. She kisses down your face...

...

... wait a fucking minute, is she sleeping? She's fallen asleep! She's still giggling, but is now gaping slightly and snoring!

> FUCK YOU RUMBLED ME

Damn... you sigh and ease her off you, and she giggles a little while slumping onto the rug. To be honest, you're probably hard enough to go through a tree right now if you jog at it, and just then Stella turns around to sleep with her back facing you.

You look at her rump, and when you put your hand on its lovely curve she shudders and sighs. Rrrgh. No, Ephidel. You're not going to meddle with women like that. Sure, Stella might not be exactly a 'well-born' woman, but everyone woman's got her virtue to keep.

And in any case... you grin while caressing her flank and edging close to her. Stella gladly accept your offer of an arm as a pillow, and you tug her into an embrace, arm under her breasts where they were this afternoon. Yeah, no worries. You don't need to take what someone's probably going to give you anyway...

... you wake up to find Stella sitting, though your arm is still around her hips now.

'We better go,' she says. 'I just realised something while sleeping. There's two routes to Tiger Rock.'

'You *dream* about tracking?' You roll over and sit up beside her.

'What? I do it all the time. Anyway. There's a longer route that goes into deep forest and is well concealed. And there's a route that takes us pretty near the hilltops where I think all the raider bands are. Are you into living dangerously?'

Well. You're not too keen on Stella's death by rape, or your death by slow dismemberment. Then again, it's not like you can put off a fight indefinitely...

> Oh come on, don't go!

You grin, and tighten your arm around her waist, and this time Stella resists and elbows you before getting up to get her stuff. Oww. 'That's cold. Anyway, let's go scout out the raiders.'

'When I said scout out, I only meant that one we know at Wolf Cub. I don't know if we might run into other bands at night.' She takes her bow. 'I mean, fuck, I hope not...'

'I fucking hope not too. But look, they're eventually going to come for us.' Serious time now. 'We might as well go see what they're about. What say you?'

'What say me? If I said no, could you find them at night?' She squats to check her knives. Stella *knows* you're ogling. She *must*. 'Of course we'll go.'

You leave the members of the watch behind and follow Stella, up a relatively short route. Clearly the longer route is the one that follows the creek, since after a while you leave it and strike out over rocky fields and relatively sparse areas, creeping along in the tall grass.

The sky above you is cloudy but the moon is very bright, so it's not hard to spot Wolf Cub Rock from quite a distance. Actually, now, it's a lot fucking easier to spot since - as you quickly realise - it's lit. By torch light.

'Wow,' Stella says as you come to within a hundred paces or so. The camp is pretty impressive, perched on the slope just under the rock itself, and brightly lit. 'They don't give a fuck about hiding, do they?'

'I think if you go around raping and pillaging for a living, you probably are quite beyond fear...'

'They've sited that camp badly,' Stella says. You follow her a bit more. No, that's close. That's a bit too close! But then- the camp above disappears from view. 'see? Too high up the slope. This whole area below is dead ground. And they haven't been patrolling this area...'

It's not a very steep climb up, though the camp is walled. You can hear faint sounds from inside now.

'Nice.'

'Yeah, very.' Despite not seeing any tracks, Stella is still looking. Also glancing around nervously. 'Very nice. They're having a ball of a time I bet. Wonder if they haul people back to the camp to play with?'

'Do you reckon if we climb up, we could get a closer look?'

'Unless you don't like your limbs, and can look through a wooden wall, I wouldn't recommend it,' she whispers, then starts at a sound and glances back. 'What the fuck was that?'

'Deer,' you point. 'Don't be so fucking jumpy. Fine. Let's go...'

You run across somre more deer as you navigate the gradually steeper terrain, following tightly behind Stella. In fact, you even make a detour at a point when you spot several wolves, only to realise they are simply making a beeline for a dead deer.

All this while, though, you can see Tiger Rock, and after a finall, hard scrabble, you find yourselves on a small flat spot at its base. 'Not this one.'

... the right place, it turns out, looks... very good indeed. A loudly gurgling stream at the base of the rock gushes down a steep slope. The sheer faces on the south and west rise up about 20 or 25 feet, sheer hard rock; but here is a large field, nearly 50 or 60 paces on each side and overgrown with shrubs and grass.

> Since I rolled two 99's while determining this terrain, you are allowed to choose one feature this plain also has. Within reason, I'll allow it.

Stella looks around for tracks while you gravitate towards the spring. Gurgling and bubbling, it is a lovely-sounding-

WOAH.

You nearly slip on a patch of algae, turn around and grab a rock, and then step away to realise what you just avoided. The plain isn't just a flat plain with rocks shielding two sides; where Stella said there was a 'slope', there's really just a single, narrow route, sloping from left to right, down a dead drop that's perhaps 20 feet deep at its shallowest. You estimate that if people were to charge you, about three or four could cram into that path at most.

'Hey, what are you-'

'No, no, stop!'

'Eh?' Then Stella looks down. 'What the-'

'You've never *actually* been up here, have you?' You frown. 'Or you would have known about this. It isn't even a slope, it's just this route and then a drop.'

'Wow. No, I haven't been on this side, really...' Stella looks up, then down at the trees growing up from below. 'This is *amazing*, though. No wonder they call it Tiger Rock. A Tiger is alone, but it can face down a pack of wolves here.'

'Indeed.'

'Well, that's what I found for us anyway,' Stella says, sounding proud. 'Also, clearly people haven't found this spot. It's empty.'

You turn to Stella, watching her eyes glitter and gleam slightly in the bright moonlight, and then pull her into an embrace. 'Oof,' is all she says as she bumps into you; but then she returns the hug. 'Mmm.'

'This is amazing. It's an incredible base. Assuming we can set up here.'

'It is, isn't it?' She chuckles. 'Just now... did I fall asleep before we... because I got up and we were both dressed, and...'

'Oh yeah, I forgot.' You release your hug for a moment, then muss up her hair.

'What, coming up the route?'

'Yeah.' There's a shrub there. Stella glances at you, then pecks your cheek.

'You know, there are some things we can do now to ease the process of fortifying this place. If every night we came and cleared vegetation-' then she blinks too. 'No, there's definitely someone there. I think.'

You wonder if you've both been seen. You were talking quite loudly, but maybe you could sneak up towards it while it's hiding from you.

'And I sneak up?'

'Clever.'

'Just sensible,' Stella mutters, and crouches to sneak to one side while you take an arrow out and nock it. You've been doing good with your bow recently. Remember that shot that went in the guy's face - and out the back of his head! That was a good shot.

You nock the arrow, but do not draw until Stella is just a few paces from the rock, before calling out. 'Hey!' you say, tugging on the bowstring. 'Hey!'

'Wait, wait!' Suddenly Stella gives up all pretense of stealth and stands up. 'Wait, it's not-'

'Don't shoot!' You quickly loosen the string as a man steps out from behind the shrub, looking at Stella. He looks her all over, clearly undressing her with his eyes. Little creep. Tall and a little lanky, he doesn't seem armed, except there's something on his belt.

'What's that on your belt? Why're you here?'

'It's a flute, Ephidel!'

'It's a flute!' He takes it out and throws it on the ground.

'Below. Like there.' The man points. 'In the woods.'

'You walk alone in the woods with a bloody flute in your belt?' That's creepy. Mountains are, after all, the abode of spirits and ghosts, and... you suddenly remember one question to ask a ghost that will distract it, since the dead don't remember their name very well. 'Wait, so who are you exactly?'

'Me? I'm Kuredel.' Oh. So he's not a ghost then. 'I, uh... I live in one of those, what you might call hamlets. Not far from below. There's two families, and a few men who deserted the army during the battles in the west. As well you might, if you were fighting in those battles. Are you refugees as well?'

Hmmm. Stella comes back to you. 'Looks like a scholar.'

'Hold that thought,' you say. Wait, why did you say that exactly? That's not quite what you meant. 'Kuredel, are you by any chance a scholar?'

'Something of one, yes.' He smiles. 'I was brought up to be a squire and scribe, but then my arm got broken in a fall, so scribe it was. But I can tell you, for certain, that it will rain tomorrow - and quite heavily, too.'

You look up at the sky, which is clear and deep blue, the stars visible, the moon a great silver mirror. Right. Of course. 'Do you know something of architecture?'

'So you do know...' you glance at Stella, who frowns but does not say anything. Knowing her, she'd definitely say something if she had suspicions, so... 'well, Kuredel. Are the people in your hamlet interested in banding together?'

'Do you mean, between hamlet and hamlet? Or do you mean...'

'We are also looking to... safeguard this mountain, shall I say. Many of our neighbouring hamlets have fallen prey to those raiders who are refugees from the west. Most of the things we see do not bear recounting.'

'I've seen someone disembowelled and hanged with his own guts,' Kuredel shrugs. Well, fine, you stand corrected. 'So I do know what you're talking about, and I wager those people in my hamlet do as well. Are you looking to move here then? Right now?'

'We have some arrangements to make...' Stella begins, then turns to you. Kuredel gives you two a look as if in admiration of a cute couple. Piss off, Kuredel, you haven't seen Stella when she decides to act on her own initiative...

> So, what sort of arrangement do you want to come to?

> Basically, this place is perfect in location terms, or almost. Water supply, flat ground, solid defences, all check. But it's all overgrown with grass and shrubs, which are both annoying and provide no good materials.

'So, what are these arrangements?' Kuredel says, after you and Stella have a short discussion. Just then she backs off and nods.

'Sounds right?'

'Mm.'

'Yes.' You turn to the man again, and just then a breeze blows and you look up. Wait a minute. That's an enormous bank of red clouds over there. You have to be kidding. 'So the deal is this. I'd like your group to join with ours, and for your hamlet to shift up here and help to clear the ground. We have some business to attend to downslope, where our people are; once that is settled, we will move up and help with the construction. And when the fort is complete, it will protect us all together.'

'Hmm. Protection itself is a good benefit. But what else can you offer my people? After all, I've been considering where to guide them to, since many of them do listen to me.' He twirls the flute in his hand.

'How about enough grain to last us comfortably through the winter? Grain, as well as meat?' Stella says. 'That's what we're attempting to secure. Your gift will be to help us make a new home, and our gift will be the new home's larder.'

Kuredel gives the idea a little thought... and nods. 'I think, perhaps, you should come back here in a few days' time. But definitely I will attempt to convince my people. I'm confident that they'll listen, and after all, if you need to clear terrain, to tidy up this place will be easy.' He looks around. 'But you should come and talk to the people and convince them. Maybe some sort of... monetary reward would be nice too.

> Plead poverty.
> Other.

> So, since you've scouted this out - what do you wish to do after tonight? There's the invitations, preparations for the feast, and the general training that's going on. Or you can attempt to do something else entirely... like robbing, perhaps, or something.

offer 10 silver each person
and later go down to the black smith to get better gear for our people

>Make an offer
We're still filthy rich, for our standing.

>Train to knock up two arrows and shoot at targets. Might as well get gud with our main weapon.

lets head back to our hamlet for now, we've scouted enough and need to get some rest for the coming day

>plead poverty
We've taken in a group already and it has put a mild strain on our coffers
>>
>>29192259
I'll let the others decide whether to make an offer or not, but we should head back home, see if Stella is thinks a fuck is still a good idea and get some rest for the coming business

This sounds like the best option for now.

Check on the others first. Get some gems and some silver for our blacksmith trip.

we might need to pull off another big score soon

>offering ten silver right off the bat
