You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are the knight, Talon York, and you are the man who will be an emperor. Last thread you defeated a daywalker, slapped down a pompous noble trying to marry your dragon bodyguard, engaged in some teasing against your familiar and are now keeping two other elementals company

1. Next thread will be 5pm EST, Jan 9th. It will be a more serious thread.
2. If FTB scenes come up, I’ll write them but not in the thread. Expect links to them in future threads should any happen.

NB: The lorebin is pretty large and I’m not expecting everybody to read it all. I’m still up for answering questions ITT so as not to alienate players and I’ll try to make things understandable contextually.

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against.

As you find that mining form from earlier, you decide to engage in some light teasing. Before the girls get too comfortable, judging from the way they’re edging towards you, or too catty, judging from the way they’re exchanging glances. At least, you hope the latter is cattiness – or maybe you hope it’s something else. You don’t think too much on that.

“So, Sala,” you say, “at exactly what point did you realise those men weren’t appreciating their combat skills so much as how much of your skin they could see? And how more they hoped to see?”

Sala pinches your leg at that, shutting you up momentarily, but Undine swoops in, “OH, really, sister, did you not realise it?”

“Hmph,” Sala harrumphs, “I knew. I was just using them.”

“So, basically, you came straight here right after you found out.”

Her eyes dart to the side. “Maybe.” Then she looks at Undine and grins. “What about you, baby sister? Did you come here hoping to have some fun with our dear master after I told you all those juice tidbits?”

“Made-up tidbits,” Undine growls back.

You cock an eyebrow. “Undine, you spend each night in my room. Did that not strike you as the best time and location?”

Sala grins at that as Undine looks away. Then, somehow, things change and a signal is exchanged between them.

Then Sala turns to you with a sly grin, “Talon, Gnome said you weren’t that experienced at this? Is that why you’re dodging us?”

Wait, what?

“I am woefully inexperienced,” you tell them as nonchalantly as possible. “Why do you think I've been taking my long lunches with her before we left?”

The two of them freeze. There’s a very strange look in their eyes. You slowly and carefully put the paperwork in a drawer, hoping not to set them off.

“She’s really quite good at taking the lead, I’ve found,” you add once your paperwork is safe and secure. So long as Sala doesn’t burst into flame.

“That bitch!” Undine shouts as she stands up. “She said she was going to let me go first.”

“Hey, she said we could both go first,” Salamander joins her.

The both of them are fired up and start discussing how long it would take Sala to fly back to Harrowmont. You’re having difficulty holding in your laughter.

With all your willpower you manage to hold it in. The two sisters are bickering over whether Undine should remain behind as Sala doesn’t want to carry her. You figure you’ve had enough fun, and before you burst into laughter and ruin things, move on.

You reach out with both arms and grab the two girls. It’s an old and familiar sensation, and you feel a familiar grin come onto your face. They squeak as you grab them and you try to squeeze too much as they squirm.

“Now, as I’m so inexperienced, I clearly need much more. You said I was dodging you and I do so apologise for that. I am, of course, happy to take up your challenge and get some more experience.”

The two girls like deer caught in torchlight, as they suddenly realise maybe Gnome was pulling their leg a little. Still, they meet each other’s eyes and you know they’re caught.

“I guess the liquid courage was a good idea, huh,” Salamander giggles.

Undine nods timidly, looking away from you, “I told you the whole sisterly fight thing would work.”

You can’t help it and burst into laughter. This should be fun, at the least. You didn’t get any paperwork done, but you’ve missed this part of life.

MALORIC SCENE
>The next day

“I do apologise for my brother’s behaviour, Talon,” Neir Gendarme tells you. She’s the youngest of Phillias’ four daughters, being only a few years older than Caitlyn. She’s also the only one you haven’t bedded.

“No harm done,” you tell her lightly.

“To you,” she says, smiling. “I jest though, he got what he deserved. He’s always been a brat – about time he got taught a lesson by someone as big and grand as yourself. He needs to understand how little he truly is.”

Maloric coughs, reminding the two of you he’s also have lunch with you. “Could you stop with that. It’s seriously creepy.”

You grin. Neir had been in town along with Agor and had arrived last night to see to him. Naturally, she’d spent some time with Mal, her old flame. She did enjoy teasing him a little too much.

“Fine, fine, we’ll leave it alone,” you say, keeping Mal happy. “Spoilsport.”

Mal shoots you a sharp look at that last part but Neir gives a slight giggle.

You smile as well and move on to business. “So, Neir, what exactly brings you to Niorte? The last I heard your family held lands further to the south, near the capital. It seems strange to find both you and your brother this far afield.”

Her face darkens a bit. “Ah, I’m not one to talk about this. I understand you call yourself Imperator now, Talon, so…”

You raise your hand, palm out, as you speak, “I understand, Neir. I won’t try to test your allegiances. With that said, you are a Seraphi noble and more than suited to act as a diplomat to a foreign ruler. As such, I hope we can trade information in such a way that can help both our nations.”

Neir shoots you a grateful smile and relaxes again. “Thank you, Talon. That would be for the best.

“I suppose I can tell you that our family has acquired a sizeable amount of land in Farrlouf province to the south-east. I shouldn’t say much about our presence in Niorte, though.”

You nod. So, the RSK were moving its more warlike nobles into land closer to the League. If they were here, it likely meant that they were looking at expanding their claim further.

“I see. Does this mean your father has relocated here? Or did they give Pia or Trielle separate title to the rest of the family?” you ask, referring to her two eldest sisters.

Neir ducks her head, a slight blush on her face. “Ah, actually, I have been granted the title of Countess and am responsible for the whole province, though we only own about half the land.”

“Bullshit. They put you out under that monster, Falwick?” Mal suddenly shouts.

Neir looks away. “We are at war, and he is our greatest general. It’s only nat-“

“No. No, no, no. if you fight under Falwick, you’ll die, Neir. He keeps the League at bay and earns that title because he grinds through his commanders like they are meat for the masses,” Mal says, anger permeating his every word.

>continued
>>
>>29336577
Neir looks to you for support. You’re not sure if you should give it. Magister General Falwick is a monster of a man – in fact, you doubt he’s a man. He controls the nearby front the RSK maintains with the League and any nobles moving here would be under his command for military matters. As it is, his reputation is earned exactly as Mal says. You were lucky enough not to fight under him – for you would certainly have died along with many others.

i think we can perhaps try to wrangle having her assigned as a permanent diplomat from the seraphi kingdom to us, which will get her out from under his thumb, score mal some good brownie points if we let him lead on it, and give us an in with the seraphi kingdom.

We need to open diplomatic relationship with both the magi league and the seraphi kingdom ASAP and stay firmly neutral in their war, since they are both superpowers...
Or if we don't stay neutral get well paid for it.

We could also perhaps take darlessia and trade it to them for the two counties immediately south of harrowmont to give us some buffer around the source, they would like it since it gives them a change to flank the RSK there.
At the moment they can't take it themselves since the vamps hold it, but if we had it and just gave it to them...

“Talon, I, I don’t know, I shouldn’t,” Neir stutters out.

You sigh, realising that she’s not going to easily buy in. Still, if you can give her a good option, maybe she’ll come around then.

while 2 is the most beneficial to us, it will set us against the rsk.

Contacting both of them and then remaining neutral in their war is an idea discussed before, it was shot down.

Stay out of it entirely, by no contact, as we have been doing ever since that idea was discarded is what we have been doing.

They aren't the same thing.

3 is a terrible idea at this point. and we are not ready to move on Tauor...

>>
>>29336886
Bring up both 1 and 2.
2. Probably makes the most sense given that she's already military, but 1. provides her access to Mal, probably a fair amount of action /if/ she wants to be involved, and could be passed of as a strategic deployment to foster ties with a prospective regional ally (she knows us and spoor that reason alone is a good candidate for the post).

That's all I got.
>>
>>29336947

Which is the positon we'd rather be in. Where they come to us, recognizing us as a power, not us going to them, yelling, "HEY WE'RE A POWER RECOGNIZE US." RSK would probably still rather have Talon as a vassal lord and the Magi would probably laugh, they could crush us.
>>

I'm cool with that then.

>>29336949
I think you guys are sorta arguing semantics. Either way, we're not engaging, so what does it matter?

It would also ally us firmly against the Magi league, and keep us from getting most of the benefits of conquest.

“You’re a countess, right? And Harrowmont is a growing power. I’m a known entity to the RSK but I’m also threatening some of their plans. If you offer to be a diplomat to Harrowmont, you will be able to be safe,” you tell her.

She shakes her head. “I need to rule my lands. That was unconditional as part of the King’s offer.”

You frown, then smile. “Then all you need to do is make yourself the representative noble to Harrowmont – then you’ll be able to rule Farrlouf and still be kept from the front.”

Ah, RSK bureaucracy. You’ve always hated it before, but now it’s helping you. Any power considered large enough got its own noble assigned to it who had to manage all relations and diplomats. Darlesia had had one, you recall, but neither Vitria or Taour did. The Darlesian one was a hangover from when they were larger, of course, so technically Harrowmont was too small. But with the right leverage.

“I still don’t know. It feels like I’m betraying my country.”

The current plan I propositioned based on map

1. Take vitria and Taour
2. Take Farun
3. Take independent region to the north east of us.

At that point we are 2 region big and have a border with:
Seraphi empire 8.5 regions big
RSK - 7 regions big
Mage guard - 3 regions big

We could either attack the mage guard, or join the seraphi/RSK war on one side or another
>>
Oh, did we ever set up a channel to purchase mage knight equipment from the RSK like was suggested earlier? Because we could probably convince her to do so.
>>
>>29337189
>RSK - 7 regions big
meant to say Mage League.
>>
>>29337189
Think is, I don't think we have the military might to defend all that territory yet. We need more recruits.
>>
>Target met

Neir looks you in the eye and nods. “Okay, I’ll do it. Harrowmont’s too small now, but if you keep expanding like you are and with your reputation it should go over easily.”

Mal lets out a sigh of relief. “You don’t know how happy that makes me feel, Neir. You don’t want to get involved in that front.”

Neir nods a bit and rubs Mal’s hand before making an ‘oh’ noise and turning back to you. “I shouldn’t tell you this, but it’s vital to the plan – Vitria has backing currently from the RSK, but it’s only from the Ferrciffe family. They’re not supposed to be doing it – if you can deal with Vitria, which from your troop movements and other activities I think you are, then that will be enough to satisfy the test of Harrowmont being capable enough to deserve a specific noble governing relations.

“If you could find some proof about the Ferrciffe family aiding Viktor Oaln it would also be nice. My spies haven’t been able to turn anything up, yet.”

You blink. “Wait, spies? Troop movements? Neir, have you been keeping an eye on me?”

She smiles a little. “I’ve been keeping an eye on everything nearby. It’s what I do.”

Mal tells you, “She does this for fun. She always used to like knowing wherever I was in the RSK, even when she was still a minor that should have known better than to get involved with a big bad mage like me.”

Well, that’s another thing. You think you may have found your spymaster. First though, you’ll need to take Vitria if you want her to join you. You’re not too worried about her allegiances, so long as you don’t declare war on the RSK she should be happy to assist you, you feel.

1. With each conquest so far we gained more than we lost. There hasn't been a single fight we lost more than we gained on, literally not a single one.
2. Which enemy, we are in a 2 way war.
3. Vitria: has 1 civilian magitech factory, buys magical weapons from RSK. Also owns a mage tower that can do manual enchantments. Their military might grows faster then ours since they are buying magical weapons and we at the moment are not
4. Taour: Has a functional magitech factory in capital manufactuing magitech (heavy mageknight plate, what we fought in most recent thread). Has also captured darlesia's magitech factory (magical plate) which is currently inoperative due to being sabotaged by darlasian loyalists as they were being conquered. Also has powerful mind control, and massive more pop and a more established economy.
Their military might will grow significantly faster then us as they churn out magical weaponry, mind control the remnants of darlesia's army as they catch them, etc.
>>
>>29337343

While true I believe it was said that the money wouldn't outfit too many. Personally I think we should invest that money.

Opening up a knightly order in Harrowmont might be a good idea as well. We have the provinces that can provide arms and armour, but only mundane ones, while we do have Mal(who is working on his new project) to enchant and that other mage it isn't quite enough to get Mage Knights. Training others like ourselves and Caitlynn would help fill out our ranks.
>>
>>29337421
You're maintaining a professional army, not a levy. Historically, in medieval times a lot of the soldiers would never make the battlefield. England had a pop of 4m, but Henry could only field 6k troops at Agincourt.
>>
>>29337448
oh hey... knights wear mundane equipment which they boost with their own sorcery (because it conflicts with enchanted stuff) to the point where its actually superior to magical plate...
We could totally invite some knightly orders to open chapters.
We even have a knight errant from some order already working as a general in our army. He would be a good person to talk to about opening a chapter.
>>
>>29337505
I'm not sure we really trust him enough yet...

Even more than that, I'd rather have one of our subordinates found a new knightly order + the ranger order.
>>
>>29337442

We do, but that isn't going to last. Every territory we take means more we have to defend. Right now, we're running on fumes to push our army everywhere. It's big now, but it can't be everywhere at once. We need to decide on some solid fortifications. Maybe try and think up some unique castle designs or defenses to keep our our enemies. Pushing past and hitting everyone we can is going to backfire hard if we have a particular engagement go poorly. If we lose all our forces, and have no back up, then what? We lose a whole lot.
Don't let this victory shit go to your head, dude. That's what killed so many aspiring nations.

They're the ones that worry me the least. We can probably take them out before we worry about the Taour. But for now, I'd really like to work on some sort of fortifications.

They are already way ahead of us, pushing ourselves to the limit to try and compete with them won't help anything. We need allies. Which is why it's great that this deal worked out.

Ayep. I have done a crazy amount of research into building this setting. There's a lot of detail you guys will never see (because it's boring to 99.9% of people) but it's there.

NEIR SCENE
>the morning after

You’re having an early working breakfast alone this morning. Undine and Sala have been pestering you ever since you reciprocated their attentions and it’s made it difficult to get any work done. As such, you had the castle’s cooks prepare food earlier so you could go over the last of the paperwork at breakfast before anybody got up. Before most, you correct yourself, as Neir walks in wearing her nightdress. She gives you a simple greeting as she gets some food.

“Are you not going to get dressed today, Neir?” you chide her gently.

She sticks her tongue out in response. “You walked in me and Mal having sex once before, so it’s not like you haven’t seen more.”

“You’re missing the point. I don’t think Mal would appreciate others seeing you walk around like this.”

“That’s his problem. I’m not getting dressed to have breakfast, only to get undressed once I go back to his room.”

Ah, so that was it. You shake your head and resume your work, but a thought occurs to you. Neir might be able to help you with some matters. You shouldn’t push her for too much, though, given how busy she is and that she doesn’t actually work for you.

>1. Ask Neir about acquiring mage-knight equipment
>2. Ask Neir whether she knows any mages or machinists who might be interested in helping you
>3. Ask Neir whether there are any knight-errants or mercenaries free that might help you
>>
>>29337559
Don't forget the only reason we're getting so many recruits from these places is because they're independent, which is easily impressed by one as great as us.

I doubt vampire lands filled with thralls are gonna be so eager to join us. If they don't mass suicide or something crazy.

Agreed with this Anon, we could actually work out going relatively turtle mode for a bit and do just fine, I think it is generally assumed Vitria will be the first thing to come under hold, because of logistics and how the warfront is going but we don't need to go crazy with it now. They are already scared anyway, and we have some new information with Nier here. If we cut their ties with that RSK house and continue our slow march to take over their lands they'll burn from the inside out and it'll be easy pickings. No need to rush now.

>>
>>29337559
I agree with you about the vampires being the main concern AND needing to solidly fority

I propose the following plan for solving our current issue
1. Fortify olmm some.
2. (optional) find any pockets of resistance (military that is) in darlasia still resisting vampires and rescue them to bring them over to reinforce olmm. DO NOT actually conquer darlesia, after the raid retreat while doing some scorched earth.
3.Take port temby, this cuts off vitria's RSK trade and it ALSO gives us a mage tower. With it we could get some mages stationed in olmm to screen for vampire infiltrators.
4. Convince craol defenders via diplomacy that we have a legitimate claim for vitria's throne via sarah and that it is an internal affair and they should remain neutral as their solmn duty is to guard the border against the vampire menance.
5. Take vitria's capital. At this point, shift the bulk of our forces to the vale/craol border.
6. Take Darlesia
7. Take Crece... crece is a massive natural wall with only two passes, the passes are heavily fortified by taour, if we take it we could fority to hold agains them, this would be our toughest battle but we can cheat. Have gnome bore us a hole to bypass the defenders and siege them from both sides at once until they starve.
8. finish mopping up taour.
>>
>>29337680
Uh...well that's an idea, sure.

But I mean, we're in a setting with access to crazy levels of magic! I mean, surely we can think of some sort of masterfully made trap that will surprise all our foes, and help protect our borders?

I'm really worried about the Tauor, mostly. If they hit us with full force, we will be hard pressed to stop them from winning at least one territory.
>>
>>29337655
>2. Ask Neir whether she knows any mages or machinists who might be interested in helping you

WE NEED THESE. We have the mundane down pat, getting a machinist would make everything multiple tenfold.

Sure, I'll add it to my to-do list. It's all demographics and the like. I might need to filter some stuff out as it spoils a few other things, mind.
>>
>>29337452
Checked my sources again, 3% is about the maximum for a medieval society on a full war footing then reaches 12% in WW2 then starts falling again for a variety of reasons. As for why Henry had so few people at Agencourt, that was for several reasons:
1. He had to raise and supply that army across a distance.
2. He had to keep a large part of his military at home to keep the nobles in line, guard against the Scottish, keep the peasants in line, provide a reserve in case the french decided to attack England directly, ect.
3. He was returning to England after a campaign and didn't actually have his entire army with him
Yeah, he had a lot more than that in his whole military.

That's mostly my point yes. If we can take Vitria with the least amount of bloodshed, we'd have territory we WON'T have to defend against a powerful nation. That, on top of having one less enemy nation would be IMMENSELY helpful. Right now, the vampires have the upper hand, and the only way we're gonna get it back is by preparing ourselves. Defenders advantage, and all that.

Agreed. It needs more forts and maybe even a castle, if we can manage.

If such a thing exists, hopefully our new ally will find them. That would help our numbers grow.

Possibly. I am still looking into being able to take Vitria non violently, but who knows if we are THAT diplomatic?
I imagine they are really skittish right now about dying. Possibly make for a good vassal? (though I recall one of our subordinates saying to limit making vassals)

>2. He had to keep a large part of his military at home to keep the nobles in line, guard against the Scottish, keep the peasants in line, provide a reserve in case the french decided to attack England directly, ect.

Yes, and so do you. You have militia in every town. That's your levy. They're part of the army even if you don't directly command them.

>1. He had to raise and supply that army across a distance.
The first is still true as you're maintaining a professional army.

>3. He was returning to England after a campaign and didn't actually have his entire army with him
I would also argue he lost a lot of troops simply because he didn't have the money to keep paying them for such a long period.

I also realise France tended to have much larger armies, but they also tended to rely heavily on mercs.

Ultimately, I'm going to use that as a good indication for how well you can maintain a mobile professional army, keeping in mind you'll have automatic garrisons at most places.

4. custom: Ask how RSK protects itself against infiltration by vampire daywalkers... not the SPECIFIC DETAILS (thats national secrets), but if there are any methods that we might implement ourselves on our territories

Yea, but since gnome never took to the field they don't know we have her yet.
We could have her tunnel through marrn from the olmm mines into the crece mines. Take their mine town from the inside like that. And then use it to stage an support a blockade of the other fortress from both sides.

>>29337941
They were, but they were maintained separately to the noble-heavy armies of France in general (England didn't have that source of troops IIRC). France had a lot of nobles, too, now that I recall. I remember reading about how they got so many for the crusades because they had so many there was no land left for them.

A tower was recently disbanded by the king and they’ve been looking for a new home – I might be able to make contact with a few. Gah. Dang it. We need more mages. I want +3 weapons damn it.

Huh...call me crazy, but I have trouble seeing her thinking of Talon as a dad. She treats him more like a grump who she wants to see if he'll do something.

Kinda like Sala I suppose.

well, mal researched for us a new bow type, we are now the only group in the world with such a weapon.
Taour researchers just built a knockoff of the RSK supertank heavy mageknight armor.
etc...
so yea, I think it pretty much is 4x-ish research

Which, btw, would put us on the mage guard's hit list, as their doctrine is to genocide active researchers.

Is the magi league currently at war with the mage guard?

Abroad is very applicable for a professional army - that's how you'll maintain them. I don't believe the 3% mobilisation rate could possibly refer to a full-fledged professional military capable of campaigning for any length of time. I might stretch it to 1% in the heat of a major war, but it would stretch the economy. That, and they still didn't really maintain professional armies - these people didn't fight for a living for the most part. I'm going to leave it at that not to draw the thread out over something not of huge relevance given the already huge differences in setting.

Aspirational, just out of curiosity. Can you give us a rough estimate of how large our Mage's Tower will be after those new ones arrive?

If you could also add a list of men at their respective ranks we have(much like our military) it would be somewhat helpful.

>>29338204
>If you could also add a list of men at their respective ranks we have(much like our military) it would be somewhat helpful.

I don't quite understand this question.
>>
>>29338212

Yeah I worded that weird.

i.e.

12 Adepts
11 Journeymen
etc.
>>
>>29338212
I think he is referring to how you listed the ranks of a mage tower.
Archmage, journyman, apprentice, etc.
Since we are trying to form a new tower in harrowmont he wants to basically know how many mages of each rank are currently in harrowmont, like how you list our troop composition
>>
>>29338262
found it. mage ranks:

/////4.1.3. Mage Ranks

Apprentice - individuals (typically children) who are still learning magic.
Adept - the lowest level of tower mage
Journeyman - the most populous rank of tower mage.
Magister - the elite of the towers.
Grand Magister - the head of most towers. This rank signifies the greatest of mages.
Archmagister - some smaller towers without talented enough mages do not appoint a GM as their head, instead appointing a regular magister and using the title Archmagister of the Tower
Archmage - an honourary title for a grand magister. There is maybe one archmage-level mage born each century and they are not to be trifled with.
Mage Errant - typically referred to as their <RANK> Errant (e.g. Magister Errant), these are wandering mages.
>>
>>29338227
Ah. In that case, I'll add it to my list. It'll come up in the updates in the next thread.

>4.

“You could just use their spies to find out?” you say, with a small smile. “Or just guess.”

She gives you a smirk. “Okay. I know you’re fucking the redhead and the brunette. They wear it on their sleeves. I don’t know about the blonde, Caitlyn, wasn’t it? I have my doubts, given how she acted in general – but I have a feeling you’ll take her someday.”

“You said I’m like a father then you talk like that to me. Why do you think I’ll take her?” you say, feeling exasperated.

“You are like a father – or maybe a mentor figure. As for taking her – she reminds me of me, when I tagged along after Mal. You just need to wake her up to the fact you’re interested.”

“What makes you think I’m interested?”

“She’s attractive and you sleep with any willing woman who’s attractive.”

“I resemble that remark. But I’ve yet to sleep with you.”

She sticks her tongue out. “You do it in spirit. Mal’s learnt a lot from you.”

“What?” you say, not having the slightest clue where this is going.

“The girls you used to bed would tell me how you pleased them and I would have Mal do that, too. It worked out quite well.”

You sigh. You remember when this girl was so innocent and now look at her. You hope it wasn’t your influence.

>That’s another thread

Well, so long as we keep our heads down and don't do something like researching this world's equivalent of the Akashic Root, we should be fine.

>>29338175
Sun Tzu put it best in chapter 2 of the Art of War, Waging War:

>One cartload of the enemy's provisions is equivalent to twenty of one's own, and likewise a single PICUL of his provender is equivalent to twenty from one's own store.

This wasn't exaggeration. The average rough estimate cost for keeping a pre-industrial army on the march was roughly twenty times that of simply garrisoning the same army in the homeland.

By the time enough supplies for one man reached the front, twenty times those supplies would have been consumed, lost, stolen, or be traded away illegally.

This is why I made the suggestion much earlier on to keep an eye on improvements to our supply chains.

Something as simple as bulk transportation by flight could cut supply costs by half. Canning your food, or switching from wheat-based breads and crackers to rice could still give credible savings of 1 in 4 in spoilage, which could then be leveraged back into more troops supported in the field.
>>
>>29338363
This is even more hilarious when you consider that those girls are probably her three older sisters. We ever going to meet them incidentally?
>>
>>29338363

That was a lot of fun for a spur of the moment thread, ace job.

Personal opinion, if you do make it a regular thing, don't lean towards sexual encounters. I know you don't and this thread was mostly all the pent up getting out at once, but implying it works. Unless we get specifically intimate with someone, just general fun character interactions.

>Well, so long as we keep our heads down and don't do something like researching this world's equivalent of the Akashic Root, we should be fine.
I think so too, as long as keep our research low key they probably won't go to war with us... especially since their leader mellowed out with age.
Thing is, their leader is a helldragon who considers the fall of dragons to be the fault of:
1. the feldragons
2. the magi league (of the time, not the modern one)

If she found we have lynn there is a good chance she will try to kill us for what she perceives as her father's crimes.

I suggest everyone read up on them on

>>
>>29338452

You haven't read The Art of War? I think it is really must do reading for any GM who is building a setting with deep intricacies. And just in general for GMs and Players both to better understand and set up strategy.
>>
>>29338434
That's probably the sort of feel I'll aim for in the future. I think a number of these scenes could have worked just as well without the sexual stuff, even if it did work out. To be honest, writing simple fluff scenes like these is good practice plus they're easy to do (you don't really need to plan) so they may become semi-regular after big and serious threads.
>>
>>29338483
I don't think we should fool around with her sisters, they are loyal RSK nobles and a passing fling from our youth. Yes we are getting a harem but we shouldn't aim for every single girl we come across.
>>
>>29338496
I don't. But fair enough.

The thing I'm mostly worried about is forgetting to do simple shit that could really help turn things our way.

For example: Our war with Vitria. If they import their weapons, what does that tell you? We should try and stop that (assuming it's not from the ocean)

>>29338520
I'd totally love relaxing after hard threads like the last one with these, where 'failures' don't really mean THAT much (Except for the bit with Neir.)

Incidentally, did our cha level up? I mean, that was a ton of Charm checks back there...
>>
>>29338520
>>29338434
That's also why I'm going to be writing my fapfics in pastebins and doing them in the afterthread. That way they're still there, and still fun, but they're not getting in the way of the meat of the story.
>>
>>29338520
>>29338434
I figure once we advance our relationship with someone to "sexy fun time" status we can assume it continues to happen in the background and instead focus on the non sex stuff in our interactions with her.
Not gone completely, but just not the main focus. for example, there is a ton of fun time banter and interaction can have with undine and sala.
>>
>>29338434
Agreed, though the 'romance' in the story isn't disproportionate by any means, the whole harem aspect can bog things down. I'm here for Emperor Quest, not Harem Quest.

>>29338520
Personally, I don't like having sexual themes in quests. But that's a personal preference and in this case it's tastefully redirected to the pastebin and not simply spoilered in the quest thread. It also works into Talon's character well, though him having 50+ sexual partners by 34 or whatever is a bit ludicrous. But it's your setting, you're doing a compelling job and I love the characters, so I ain't complaining.
>>
>>29338546
>If they import their weapons, what does that tell you?

That we literally found out who those mysterious benefactors were today. And we know we can stop them if we dig up dirt.
>>
>>29338521
Wait wha?
I was referring to our elemental harem, silly.

>>29338520
I also like that you are doing the lewd scene on a pastebin, out of the thread so it didn't tie up your attention. That way we can have our cake and still get plot done.
...that's the saying right?

Anyway, I assume there will be plenty of lewd scenes in the future. I'd suggest doing the ones you'd like to do most the same way as this. Don't need to do all of em, if you don't want though.
>>
>>29338546
oh yea, its definitely on the list
> Port Temby (town) - a large port town that handles a lot of trade and fishing. A lot of trade with the RSK takes place here.
Vitria imports its weapons from RSK through port temby mostly. If we capture this any imports would have to go from vitria directly and sail through our territorial waters (east of temby) where we can privateer them.

>>29338563

I'm just saying but I'm up to 14 by 22, 50 for a travelling mass of glorious future Emperor actually seems about right, especially given his past.

I do agree with you on the sexual themes though. I'd personally say they should stay out of the main threads, unless we get deeply intimate with one specific person, and stay in the off days. I'm not even big on harems really, it gets a bit too fetishy for me. But to each their own, the overall quest isn't being derailed so it is acceptable.

>>29338702
For the most part, I'll keep any actual smut or sexual playfulness to pastebins when it comes up. I'm unlikely to go much further than the scenes I did today in threads and they'll probably be kept to 'social' threads if I start donig them regularly.
>>
>>29338743
Of course. I imagine she'd be much more cuddly now.

I just noticed that the plan I proposed doesn't leave us any time for acquiring places of power.
And for that matter, undine should know the location of 7 places of power linked to her source while gnome should know of at least 1 (her private pop).
Can we have a list of the locations from them so I can place them on the map?

>>29338659
The harem is a really elegant solution to the typical total shitstorm that is a waifu war. Especially if its relegated to a minor part of the quest so we can get on with the fun tactical warfare stuff.
Its also actually legitimately justified for an emperor.

>>29338757
>7 PoPs
They'll come along either this week or next as I finalise where they are. I'm still planning the continental phase of the quest. I'm not expecting to reach that until about Thread 20 or so but I need to lay the groundwork early in some cases.
>>
>>29338752
>first thing
Aw
Well that's understandable, since there wasn't much consequence.

Also I think I misunderstood something: You said 5 was the max a human could go, does that mean we need magic buffs to increase it beyond that from now on, and all experience gaining stops? Or does it mean it just reeeeally slows down?

>third thing

>>
>>29338757

>>
>>29338743
>Undine does like to sleep in our quarters.
Undine doesn't sleep, at all. she and gnome stays awake all night watching us sleep out for assassins while we sleep. Sala presumably does the same for mal.
>>
>>29338757
>>29338776
Hm....

Well, it makes the most sense to 'conquer' our way towards PoP, right?

I vote the next one goes to empowering us. Because that shit is gonna be amazing.
>>
>>29338779
5 is meant to be the max for humans but Talon's special. As I mentioned when you hit 5 for Strength, you feel you can go past it. And yes, it really slows down at that point. There are some things that can't improve at all in terms of skills/abilities without plot though like Sorcery.
>>
>>29338791

I've read the Pastebins fella. No need to post every time someone makes a little slip of the word.
>>
>>29338805
>like Sorcery

Which is actually something we rarely focus on directly(outside our empowerment and meditating before battle). We might want to give it a little look here soon,
>>
>>29338805
Hm...
So...do we get, perhaps, interesting perks as those stats go up to mythic levels?
Like, say, our Strength reaches 7, and suddenly we're so powerful, we can slice through almost any mineral, or being able to slice straight through an enemy, and keep going (Basically Cleave)?

Some stuff like that...I thought was interesting.
>>
>>29338795
currently we can empower undine with 4 of them, and ourselves with as many as we want (I think). We have no other uses for them.
However, the moment we empower ourselves every angel, archmage, god, devil, and fae in the world will sense it and realize we have an active source. We can expect immediate visits and attention from really powerful factions. As such, I would like to wait some before we do that.

I believe we could diplomance them. It would take an entire army of angels to take us out if we empower ourselves and they are needed at the wall, we can convince them we are a decent guy and even may promise to help them with the monster beyond the wall, which would really up the scale of this quest to 11.
>>
>>29338807
i meant no offense sir. I didn't know it was a slip of the tongue so I figure i would post it.
Besides it was mostly meant to make the joke about her watching us sleep
>>
>>29338848
If that's the case...
Can't they sense Gnome?
Or Undine if she gets empowered?
>>
>>29338843
Stats, no. They're just numbers - abilities are where that's at. I may slow things down a lot when you don't have the abilities to reflect your mythic capabilties otherwise. I'll also be introducing a weapon of power or two eventually, though I'm undecided which those'll be (I know which ones in the setting I won't introduce, though).
>>
>>29338886
>No
Aw. Well, I suppose we should start using our abilities and skills more. I didn't really notice us use any, beyond Barrier break...

>Mythic Weapons
Interesting... I'd totally be cool with a Flaming Zwehanler
No I don't know how to spell it.
Shut up.

>Which ones NOT to introduce
I assume that will be the one our enemy has. Or like, Star Cutter, which allows you to slice reality.
>>
>>29338886
>weapon of power

I was wondering when those when come up actually. It was a small bit in the bins and you hadn't mentioned it yet. But I assumed Talon was pretty OP for the early stages anyway so we didn't quite need them.

Any way you'd give us Lore bits on the others? Just as like stories and myths just out of interest for the setting.
>>
>>29338917

Aspirational has said we use Empowerment and Meditate every time time permits. Mostly behind the scenes stuff, so yeah it happens. Just implied anymore.
>>
>>29338917
>I assume that will be the one our enemy has. Or like, Star Cutter, which allows you to slice reality.
Whilst there's a few crazy ones like that. But the ones I'm thinking of are a pair that exist in the setting and may come up but are too OP for the quest. One can kill literally anything and another bends fate. The anti-magic blade is their sister sword and /may/ appear.

>Aw. Well, I suppose we should start using our abilities and skills more. I didn't really notice us use any, beyond Barrier break...
Empowerment, magical blasts, every time you do a huge leap, your shield barriers...

>>29338927
I'll probably add some stories about major ones over time. I'll have to add the Lord of Ember's two at some point, as they're massive plot points.
>>
>>29338886
So I've been having some thoughts about this quest...

Since it seems you are intent on using d20s, I was wondering if you considered the idea of burnable points to negate crits.

Hear me out. I find d20s have a pretty high crit range. Especially if they override previous rolls. That can get pretty disastrous later on, especially if we make good plans and it goes to hell because of some shitty rolls. The ability to burn a pool of points occasionally (really small, only get more by doing something super heroic, etc) would allow us to save our asses in some really bad situations.

I'm the guy that hates d20 so you're free to ignore me, if you want. I just...thought I'd suggest this, since the ability to dig ourselves out a ditch would be nice.
>>
>>29338958
>Anti Magic Blade
all of my nope. I still freak out whenever I think about that assassin

>All those skills
O-Oh. It's subtle, then. I should read better. Sorry!
>>
>>29338958

Interesting stuff then, I know you have a lot to add to the bins before your next update anyway, so no rush on that.

One more question. Since magic makes Heavy/Light Calvary all but obsolete in this setting, is there a specific unit that is their "replacement" so to say?

Or were you dropping hints with Mal that we could just invent more units using similar summons?
>>
>>29339012
>Replace Cavalry
...Flying Knights?
>>
>>29338986
so like fate points in Only War or Deathwatch
>>
>>29339028
I suppose so, yes.

Its just-if you go raw d20, you get common failure. Which...gah. I just have a heartattack anytime I see it happen during battle.
>>
>>29339045
yeah I understand but we also get a lot of crits so it might make us to powerful or reckless if we can just get rid of a critfail
>>
Hey Aspirational, does Sala have darker skin? Or is she about the same tone as Undine?
>>
>>29339083
It's not about getting rid of it. And it certainly doesn't ensure success, either. But the crestfallen feeling from seeing two 19s and a nat 1 is insane.

Besides, I imagine these would be limited. Maybe like 3, and that's the max. We only refill them when we do something really heroic, and such.

Anything to mitigate the nat 1 possibility would help.
>>
>>29339121
I see where you're coming from but their would have to be limits besides just a small pool like only using them if the other two rolls beat the DC or such
>>
>>29339121

Aspirational sets up the rolls in such a way that it doesn't really effect us in the long run though. We usually manage to pull through it. And if it goes even deeper we have our Fate Points.

Take last thread, Capt. Moss saved our asses after those two failures, only reason it fell apart was because we didn't stick to tactics.

I don't have a personal liking of d20 either, but the way the game is set up and ran mitigates the overall damage of those poor rolls.
>>
>>29338986
we have such points but they are
1. rare
2. only used when we would have died or a major loss.
3. using them will punish us with the sacrifice of a named NPC or a severe hit to the respect of our cabinet

Also, he clarified earlier that the reason we had such heavy losses during the fight to take the fort was due to mistakes we made not due to the rolls, the rolls just made it slightly more awful.

We had positioned our troops for hit and run attacks against a superior foe which lacked mobility. Then when the time came to execute it we left it at the hands of a mere captain and ran off to the archers ourselves. So he fought in place against a foe that is better designed for such a fight AND our troops were not positioned correctly for such a thing.

We were given a chance to go bail him or sound the retreat ourselves but instead focused on single combat against enemy general. Last thread had some discussion about how some people were confused about what we were doing (I know I was) and how to better represent options in the future.

I've always pictured Sala as being slightly tanned.

>>29338986
I have been considering this, I will admit. I was still working through the mechanics of them and thinking of introducing them when you got your god-mode dragon event but held off. If they showed up, they would be very limited in availability. Otherwise, the main thing to think of with the nat 1s is that they don't ruin a battleplan or anything - they're usually fluffed to resemble the opponent getting a nat20.

>>29339012
I've never thought too much about it, really. To an extent it would be up to you guys and I'll roll with what is within the bounds of possibility.

>>29339566
Ah. well I'm glad to know my worries aren't completely unfounded at least.

Also
>Replacment of Cavalry
I figure the flying Knights would do that? Fast moving. Good at messing up infantry formations without being presented to danger.

But that's just my thought.

I've also considered us figuring out a way to make, essentially magitech Juggernauts.
Take Heavy Mage Knights, and give them Juggernaut level power. Would need to be a very well trained guy, I suppose. But they'd be excellent Line breakers, and Berserkers.
>>
>>29339566

You aren't the only guy who gets very disheartened when we roll really bad. I would like to point out that none of the people who replied to you outright said they oppose it, we just raised points about it.

>>29339566
>Cavalry replacement
Well, there could be fantastical creature mounts.
Like wyvern riders or people mounted on dire elephants/bears.

Or... just a special type of mageknight plate designed to simulate what a cavalry would do. That is, boost speed and grant trampling.

Some forms of horseback cavalry can exist in some places as odd local quirks, probably inferior to magical plate but not everyone has access to the best.
>>
Are there non sapient golems around which can fight? Even if rather expensive.

I feel like we should get one for our personal guard so that when we think we see an obvious trap we can send it first, so worse case scenario we have to repair/rebuild it.
>>
>>29339675
We still gotta make use of the Heavy stuff we picked up.

I imagine we have the ability to make and use Heavy Mage Knight Armor by the way? I'm not 100% on what our 'production' is like.

>>29339675
>>29339694
Why not power the chariots with 'magitech griffons'. Just an appearance thing, obviously, but it is our namesake, right?
Plus, if we use those, and our mage longbowmen show off our invention from there-well, we basically showed people why they should fear the Griffon, right?
>>
>>29339720
Wouldn't a ten-foot-pole serve the same purpose and be infinitely cheaper?
>>
>>29339720
There are constructs, yes, but nobody really makes them anymore. Patterns and summons are considered superior in most ways. Nobody has really used constructs since the Golden Age, so you'd need to first get a bunch of tomes of research on it, find a mage prodigy and then get them to start doing the research to make you one.

For your thoughts, though, a summon would do just fine.

>>29339746
>manufacturing mage-knight armor
Kind of. You can have produce mundane equipment alright but you don't have magitech to enchant it quickly so you have to use actual enchanters who are slower.
>>
>>29339720
>RSK top general gets his troops killed en masse to be a glory hound
>King of RSK commits genocide regularly
That is some serious rot in the RSK. We can't take them yet but they are not insurmountable.

>>29339759
The best traps are magical in nature and won't trigger, there is also the possiblity of stuff that is manually activated. Like that anti-magic bomb in early thread.

>>29339770
Ah I see. summons would be perfect then. I still feel bad about that one time we sent a grunt to walk through the door first during the siege on harrowmont.
>>
>>29339770
Is that what the machine we just captured gives us? The ability to make, not enchant yet?

If so, our next target should be the ability to enchant, which gives us the basics of army building. Once we have that, fortify our borders, and prepare to absorb Vitria, and strike the Vampires.
At least, that's my plan
>>
>>29339810
>machine we just captured
I'm not sure what machine you're talking about here.

Getting magitech enchantment requires you to take Vitria, get the machinist there, then either build a military facility for it or capture Darlesia and repair theirs.
>>
>>29339810
I think the ability to produce non enchanted gear comes from having conquered 2 districts with mines. Their industry includes processing the materials they mine into stuff like non enchanted gear.
>>
>>29339839
The fort we defended last thread from the Heavy Mage Knights. I swear I remember you saying we got some sort of machine from there....

Can you enchant Siege Weaponry?
>>
>>29339863
You got mining equipment and spell catalysts.

>>29339875
Most siege weaponry uses magic of some variety. As almsot all forts have barriers, it'd be useless to do otherwise. So far you haven't needed siege equipment, but Mal can jiffy some up with your men or your battlemages can fill in. Later you'll need dedicated stuff.

>spell catalysts.
can you elaborate about those
Maloric used a massive amount to summon salamander
And undine uses them to heal, her bottleneck for her healing is the time it takes her to summon spell catalysts which she then consumes...

so
1. what do they look like?
2. how big are they?
3. how heavy are they?
4. are they fragile? flammable?
5. Perishable?
6. Hazardous?
7. Do they come in various power levels/quality levels?
8. is there a use for them that doesn't consume them?
9. are they a form of currency?
10. How common is it to possess the ability to summon them like undine can? can we do it?
11. Are there places where they naturally form?
12. Can we use any to boost our own spells?
13. Do they just act as a mana battery or do they actually increase a spell's power level beyond what a mage could otherwise cast?
>>
>>29340276

You know how D&D has a whole lot of differnet spell components? They're like that.

Other questions of note:
>7
Yes
>8
Not all of them must be consumed as they're used in different ways. Foci aren't consumed but if you need to grind up a gem to draw a ritual circle it's useless aftewards.
>9
Not really but you could barter them
>10
Manifestation/summoning is difficult. Maloric can do it but it's his area of expertise. You have no talent in it and no education.
>11
Loads
>12
Nope. You don't have the training and all attempts so far have failed.
>13
They're used a conduits to the magical plane. Whilst you can sometimes avoid using them, for things like healing where you need a very specific amount of energy (or else you might screw up the healing) you can't avoid using them. Different types of catalyst for different amounts and types of energy.

Missed the 2nd part of this thread last night, damn European time.

I don't mind romance/sexual hijinks as long as they don't get too much focus on the quest, but for god's sake let's just not try to bed every single attractive female character who works for us ok, because so far it's kind of going this way
>>
>>29340325
thank you for clarifying.
Can undine prepare a stockpile of the kind she uses to heal?

Also, are unbound elementals in their home PoP at full power and then they become weaker when bound as familiars? Or are they only able to get to their full capacity as familiars?

What happens to a champion when they die? (since they are already dead and resurrected by the source).

Are there any known ways to resurrect someone who died other then them coming back as a champion?
Is undine's death widely known? (actually I want to ask her how she died specifically when we get the chance). Because if it is the only way then people who know and recognize her might be able to deduce we have a source
>>
>>29340409
>Can undine prepare a stockpile of the kind she uses to heal?
She manifests them so they won't last.

>Also, are unbound elementals in their home PoP at full power and then they become weaker when bound as familiars? Or are they only able to get to their full capacity as familiars?

The former

>What happens to a champion when they die?
They die permanently and somebody else must bind to the PoP.

>Are there any known ways to resurrect someone who died other then them coming back as a champion?
Nope.

>Is undine's death widely known?
Not really. She's not widely known in the first place - Mal didn't recognise the name, after all, but her sister's.
>>
>>29340325
>Nope. You don't have the training and all attempts so far have failed.
speaking of formal training.
We are an instinctive caster... so, kinda like a sorcerer to formally trained ones like mal who are wizards, yes?
Does getting some formal training (didn't you mention that would take years before?) in any way hinder us the way crossclassing does in some systems. Or will it mesh well with what we can do and allow us to grow further?
>>
>>29340392
Well the elemental sisters are pushing for that
Lynn and Sarah seem to also want it, not so much us pushing...

Other then that though that's about it I figure. Neir's taunting us, but otherwise with Mal.
>>
>>29340450
Hindrance, assuming you can even do it. Your instinctive casting and the rote stuff you'd need to learn for the proper stuff are complete opposites but need the same faculties otherwise.

i see, thanks for all the answers.
>>
>>29340465
Well yeah, I just don't want this to turn into some sort of wish fulfillment quest where every single female wants the D, I mean pretty much every single character we met so far is interested in us. I am not even sure about Nier's teasing since we slept with her sisters.
>>
>>29340523
Niggah you worry too much.
We're basically a God-Emperor in the making. People are gonna be interested in us, that's just how renown works. The elementals I excuse because they haven't been able to stretch their legs for years, and they can truly appreciate the astral D.
Lynn's got some serious respect for us due to dragonness. I don't really see why she wouldn't like us in such a way-though right now she's been too innocent to seem to want to do anything else.
Sarah's starstruck as all hell. She's also a super teenage girl. You telling me you're surprised teenagers are fawning over the big man?

Anywho, I wouldn't worry about it. This session was specifically set as a 'social session' where we handle all our diplomacy, lewding, and character interactions.
>>
>>29340563
>Niggah you worry too much
Yeah probably, but still I just wanted to express that. So far it's ok by me, I just don't want it to go over board, that's all.

>>29340577
Since we're goin harem route anyway, you don't need to fear waifu storms. Besides we got plenty else to worry about beyond our girls. You should only worry about the quest when we have nothing to do but help/or save the girls from something.

That would be ideal endgame, after we finish conquering stuff, I imagine. That and bringing in a new era of peace and prosperity. Good stuff.

A little quick to start (I expected it to pick up right where we left off, but no biggie), but I like the slow decent so far. No rush, this is the best part about doing it on your own time-the ability to make it long as it needs to be.

Please, do continue-even if you have to wait till tomorrow to finish. I'm sure it's quite late for you.
>>
>>29340727
we can't use a pop to get sylph. she is not attuned to this source's energies.
The reason we want her on our side is:
1. She is the most powerful air elemental in the world.
2. If we don't get her, its possible someone else might get her and then they effectively have a hostage against us.

So we are going to aim to get her as a soldier for tactical reasons. And when we do I am betting a lot of people will try to waifu her.
>>
>>29340763
That's good praise then. I may add in a part at the start to ease it in once the rest is done. I have never written smut before in my life, fyi. I am doing this all by ear.
>>
>>29340771
Huh, we can't? How would we get her, then?

If we don't need to use a PoP that's totally fine by me.
>>
Heh, I must confess I had been toying with the idea of starting a somewhat like this for quite a while even before this quest started, though more focused on managing a kingdom than conquering the world.

I am enjoying this quest so much, that is seriously tempting me to take the plunge and start my own.
>>
>>29340785
It's really not so hard, so don't be overly critical of yourself. Just think of it IC, and just...follow what instincts you think are appropriate.

I mean these are (er, essentially, not literally) human characters, and the lewd stuff should follow as naturally.
My biggest advice would be to make sure you relax a little. You're a good writer, and overthinking it will stifle your creativity a bit.

Plus, that little bit was quite nice. I enjoyed the mental images applied.
>>
Am I the only one who imagines the elementals as the ones from Monster Girl Quest?
>>
>>29340833
Gnome's mental design for me is literally a tall and busty version of MGQ Gnome, so not really. Sala's probably not that far off either, if you gave her more human dimensions.
>>
>>29340850
>>29340833
I should...probably give MGQ a look
>>
>>29340850
>busty version of MGQ Gnome,
Wait wasn't Gnome in this quest supposed to be flat and that's why she as issues with her breast size? Or have been getting it wrong and her issue is that her breasts are too big?
>>
>>29340802
we need to either make a pilgrimage to her personal PoP (the cave where she resides between masters)

Or we need to get a mage underling whose elemental affinity is of air, and is extremely powerful, and has spent years studying familiar summoning. (another mal. but one who is of the right affinity)

Or we need to acquire another Source, one that is attuned to her, and then use a pop to summon her through that second source.
>>
>>29340864
Sala is flat-ish (A/B). Undine has normal breasts (large C). Gnome's are very big (E/F).
>>
>>29340877
That is...an awful lot to go through to get her.
It should not be our priority.

We have other things to worry about right now.
>>
>>29340785
I was gonna go to sleep, but now i gotta stay away to read this :)
>>
>>29340888
It's definitely not our priority.
But we were discussing the "end game" after talon has literally conquered the entire world.
If by that point in time (if we ever reach it), we would have Sylph or not. I am thinking not.
>>
>>29340892
Don't. It's unlikely I'll finish it tonight. I'm 800 words in and I've only finished the first of two foreplay scenes. This will probably be 4-5k words by the end of it. It's unlikely it'll be done before arround 9-10pm est.
>>
>>29340885
Actually, now that Undine and Sala got 'their turn' apparently, we can talk to her about why the heck they were discussing such things, and are they always so perverted.
Then again, they haven't been brought together this way in a long time, so I guess it's understandable.

But seriously, Gnome still my fav.
>>
>>29340877
>we need to either make a pilgrimage to her personal PoP (the cave where she resides between masters)
now that I think about it. Undine knew where gnome's POP was but not where sala's or sylphs.
Does sala or gnome know where Sylph is?

FYI
Here is the map with the 7 PoPs for reference. I've finalised their locations and Undine knows where they are, approximately. She'll need more time to fine-tune her search.

1 = Undine
2 = ?
3 = ?
4 = Gnome
5 = ?
6 = ?
7 = Salamander
>>
>>29340947
Just so we are clear. There are 6 sources and each one has 7 Points of Power? And those are the 7 points of power associated with our source?

Also, is undine, as champion, the only one capable of doing this search or can gnome and salamander help?

And does either gnome or salamander know where sylph is?
>>
>>29340947
Interesting...they're quite close, some of them are anyway.

A few questions
>1
Is this continent 'The World' as we know it? I mean, is the land one big pangea, or would we take it over, and discover we just took over the world equivolent of Australia and Aspiring Emperor Quest turns into 'World Dominating Emperor Quest'?

>2
I notice Sala's is close. But since she's a familiar, not a champion...does that mean...that we can infuse her with PoP power? And if so, what would it 'do' exactly? Since you said Gnome's power increases as ours does now.

>3
Are the others linked to other creatures? Such as the foxes we didn't pick for our Champions, etc? I assume that's what they are.
>>
>>29340947
Can we even use Sala's PoP (say, to empower undine) without it draining her or otherwise disadvantaging her?
>>
>>29340962
I can't recall ever specifying the number of Sources but yes each has 7 PoPs and these are your 4. Yes, only Undine can do it. No-

Shit, actually, Gnome does know where Sylph is. Derp. She knows where her sisters are at all times. My bad. You actually know this IC, as Sala mentioned it.

>>29340967
>1
Nah, this is just the Southern Hemisphere. There is another continent to the west but you don't know much of it. It's possible there's more. Keep in mind this is the bottom half of yours.

>2
Nope, the only familiar you can infuse with PoP power is Undine. The other two must level with their masters.

>3
That's right. With that said, there's seven PoPs and only six Champion choices so there's one you guys don't know about.

>>29340987
Of course you can. She's attuned to the PoP but she's not currently using it as Mal's maintaining her. Even if Mal was to die and she returned there, she'd still be fine.
>>
>>29340997

Being a magnanamous Imperator, could we let Mal claim Salamander's PoP? or does it only work if you control it's source?

>>
>>29340997
>1
I see. So basically "The world is as big as I say, haha!"

I notice our progress is slow right now, but as armies get larger, providence take over becomes much quicker.

>2
Mm. Understandable. We should see if we can't help Mal get more powerful with us. He'll be our great Magister, I imagine by the end of it all.

>3
>One mystery creature
Hm. I wonder... Perhaps a dragon's power point, or maybe something astral.
Regardless, I wanted to also ask about the ability to empower ourselves/Harrowmont with these points. Is just doing it once going to set off EVERY extraplanar being? Because if so...that's really concerning. Also, you said putting more Points into this power would increase the range. Does that mean, if we just started to dedicate all the points to it, we could storm across this entire providence glowing with fai power?
That'd be pretty hilarious.
>>
>>29341034
>progress is slow but will speed up
More or less. I'm taking inspiration from Big Bang Age - and working in phases. Once you conquer the local region (or most of it) you'll move to the continental map and it'll work similarly. You won't need to conquer each region in detail.

>Mal will be powerful
Ayep. He's got a lot of potential. He's in, like, the existing top 10 of the setting at full strength.

>empower self with source
Using the Source like this is the equivalent of launching a rocket into space for people with good magical senses. Younger beings won't recognise it for what it is, but older ones like the Archangels and Lords will.

>range
You need 3 PoPs to affect all of Harrowmont (plus the bluffs behind). 7 would be about 4x that range. Not quite the province but a very large area.
>>
>>29340997
>I can't recall ever specifying the number of Sources
You said there are 6 champions we can choose from at thread start and each had 0/7 places of power. I used that to deduce the world has 6 sources and 7 pops per source and that we were choosing our starting location. In retrospect though, you said that those we don't choose are reconnected to have not died. Also on second count there were 7 not 6.

>>29340947
ok so, tactical availabilty here...
1 - already used
2 - mage guard, likely we will fight it after conquer the independents to the north east of us.
3 - mage guild probably harvests the pop so sneaking in is gonna be difficult
4 - Gnomes, dwarven area, we could probably sneak in.
5 - elven area, we could probably sneak in
6 - beyond the barrier. No way no how.
7 - Salas, RSK is warring on mages and disbanding their mage towers. Might be able to sneak in.

So, I only forsee us conquering #2 and I am not even sure if we will do so before or after performing stealth missions to acquire the other POP.
Actually if the mage guard isn't hostile to us then once we solidify the two starting regions we might want to do stealth missions for all 5 reachable ones before going on further conquests.

Which works out perfectly, 4 to empower undine to max level. 5th one to bind to ourselves to ascend.
>>
>>29341076
>Big Bang Age
Mah nigga. Funnily enough this has crossed me mind when you presented the two layers of map, but I didn't think it would actually be the case

>>29341076
I like that level of scale. I hope the crunch work won't be too hard on you.

>Mal in the top 10
Whoa, seriously? That's awesome. Him and Sala will make an excellent team (though I'm still not 100% why he's not taming dat ass...maybe she's just not his type?)

>Empower
That is indeed worrisome then. That seems like something we should only do after we've more or less secured the region. That way, if a demon army DOES pop up, we won't be too fucked over.
Though, I picture a demon with any sense at all would stalk us, and wait till we left to attack us if he wanted some juicy Astral power.

Angels would probably be judges and leer at us SUPER HARD before we convinced them that we really are a nice guy.

>Range
Heh. I still like the idea of warping reality and tearing apart an army of men with our fingers. I'd like to do like one anon suggested, battle through the area, secure (with armed forces) our PoPs, and activate them all at once. (Hopefully some supreme teleporting magic)

But I have a feeling it wouldn't work sadly.
>>
>>29341111
>0/7 places of power
Oh, that's outdated. I initially planned your Champion to need all 7 PoPs to fully power up before I decided to offer the other uses. There is an unknown number of Sources. The Champions each correspond to PoPs.

Also, PoP6 isn't beyond the barrier, it's in the line of mountains just before the barrier.

>>29341131
>Mal and Sala
Mal generally tries not to compete with you. He learnt long ago it was a losing strategy if he wanted to get laid. Then he met Neir, who thought the same thing about having to compete with other women for your attention. It worked out.

>>29341076
Does binding multiple pops to empowering us only increase the range or does it also increase raw power?
Will it increase our strength when outside of the area it affects?
Can it be used to launch magical attacks from with to the outside as super artillary?
Can it be used to create things like an accelerated time chamber for training or just buff up our strength and have that remain when we leave?
Are all those questions I just asked too spoilerish and we will have to find out for ourselves if/when we do it?

>>29341152
>Mal and Sala.
...I...wow, that's almost sad. I mean, it's reasonable since we're god-blooded, but for real, that has to mean he resents us a little bit deep down.
A man always living in his friends shadow, left with his left overs, and always being second to his first.

I mean, that's just how it comes off to me. Kinda tragic. Of course I suppose he could be okay with that, and be confident with his skill as a mage over us (which, lets face it, he's better at maging it up then we will ever be.)

Still, glad to know it's not really our fault he misses out on Sala (she's pretty picky it seems like, even if she is a big tease.)
>>
>>29341154
>binding PoPs
The former
>increase your strength
It shouldn't but you've been funny around the Source so it might.
>launch magical attacks as super artillery
If you used it to construct artillery that fired their own projectiles, then yes. You couldn't use the raw power of the Source to do that, though. And anything you make that is particularly reality breaking will dissipate outside the area.
>accelerated time chamber
No. Time control doesn't exist in the setting in any way, shape or form. Completely immutable even by the greatest of astral powers.
>affecting things outside the area
Nope. Only within the area of the Source.

Nah, Mal is a total bro who doesn't give no fucks. He seems like he's quite content with his life, and isn't nearly the glory hound we are.

>No time travel
this is generally an excellent decision to make.
mmm... you know what we need on our personal staff? A teleportation expert.

Also, I kinda remember you saying there was a mage tower in darlesia, and in fact, in most major cities, but its not listed in province info.
Should we just assume that every city (over 15k people) has one and its only explicitly listed if a district has no cities? Or am I remembering wrong?
>>
>>29341203
I agree completely. Teleporting is REALLY useful. I mean, even if we can't teleport armies, just in general it'd be super useful to use on us. Hopefully so we don't have to roll everytime (because we all know how that ends. Poor Talon and his fear of heights.)
>>
>>29341203
From lorebin:
>The average tower is around one hundred mages and there is one tower per 50k people (in cities)

The reason I don't list it is because there's several.
>>
>>29341213
>even if we can't teleport armies
oh I wasn't even considering the possibility of that. just a few people once per day. or even more rarely.

We need gnome now? bamf, teleport her from capital.
Enemy attacks a province? teleport the elemental sisters and yourself to the front lines.
Want to take a pop? teleport the main party there and back.

Want to do a stealth mission, say, to take out Oaln? either teleport there and back, or if limited, sneak in there, hit them hard, teleport out if it hits the fan.

Of course i am sure there would be lots of limits placed on such a power... Like the distortion of a POP not allowing us to teleport into it, just a day out, so we still need to do the dungeon delve, it just doesn't take a month to travel to it and back. still awesome.
>>
>>29341228
If I am not mistaken, Olmm biggest city is under 50k even though it has 500k people total.
does that mean it has no mage towers at all?
Also, your size scale is
Village <999
Town- 1000 to 14999
city - 15,000+

So if an area has a city I have no idea if it has a tower or not.
>>
>>29341242
Cutting down on travel time will be quite nice indeed. Travel is what makes holding armies in Medieval age so damn slow and difficult. Marching on their stomach and such.

Still it's probably pretty hard to do that, and I think Mal's specialty was evocation, not teleporting.
>>
>>29341202
Yeah but even so he might resent us a little bit inside, only a small seed but in the future it may grow into something.

That's why we should keep hands off Nier
>>
>>29341265
I wasn't suggesting mal do it, I was suggesting we track down and recruit one of the world's best teleporters into our cabinet
>>
>>29341267
>Implying we won't
We ain't gonna steal a niggah's bro
That shit ain't cool.
Just nah mang.
>>
>>29341164
We did try to help him hook up with sala.
But he said he has no interest and we should go for it
But... emotions are weird and don't follow logic like that.

>>29341202
probably

>>29341267
definitely
>>
>>29341267
I find her amusing, but that's pretty much it.
I'mma Sala guy myself.
>>
>>29341260
Olmm doesn't have a city just towns? Basically, if there's no city in the province, a mage tower is a resource. If there's a city (Darlesia, Taour and Vitriia only) then there'll be a mage tower for every 50k people in the city itself.
>>
>>29341285

From what I've seen most people here are plenty content with our harem, no need to take a bro's girl. Even if it is mostly a fling (I assume? I dunno hell)

The most contact we'll have with her is talking about spy shit and teasing her occasionally.

...Though, it is worth noting that she was drawn in by the same magnetism most ladies are. She just 'gave up'.
Ladies can be weird about 'giving up' though. Just gotta be careful.

I see now.
Also, I haven't ignored your suggestion from earlier to list cities on map, i just didn't around to it until now. Here we go. I still want to add forts too :) at least those above a certain size.
>>
>>29341374
I accidently changed the color of Vitria's city pop to blue due to how layers work.
I fixed it, it will apply to later maps I post.
>>
>>29341374
Also, your Port Temby pop count is wrong.
>>
>>29341374
...hm...hey, is Farun hostile to us?

so it is, and the order and control too. I seem to have accidentally duplicated Vale's nubers in it (just one above it on the pastebin)

Here is a corrected map
>>
>>29341399
we had no contact with them so far.
Nor is there anything about them on the pastebin aside from their name. We never bothered asking anyone working for us for any info on them. Probably combination of them being minor and away from us.
If we take out vitria and taour they will be the obvious next step.
>>
>>29341414
I put question marks for olmm control, order, and military since the info we have in the paste bin was before we conquered them. Who knows what it is now :).
>>
>>29341425
The main reason I ask is because-if we take that providence-Colms or so, we'll be RIGHT next to them. I just wanted to know if it was safe to take it, is all. If they are allies, then we can expand safely to the east. If not...well yeah.
>>
>>29341443
Do you mean craol? there is no colms as far as I can tell.

Also to the east is an ocean, we can't expand there. thats what the blue border signifies.

We might be able to conquer the region to the northeast of us by bypassing them. In such a case we will completely surround them. They are a minor noble so they are probably pretty neutral to us right now, but will likely suspect we might want to conquer them.
>>
>>29340947
I just realized that the POP form an arrow, sorta.
>>
I wonder if there are tame vampires.
Only get blood harvested indirectly from volunteers who are paid for it
Do not convert more people to vampirism
Do not mind control.
Basically, just another minority group.

We might have an easier time conquering taour if we weren't out to exterminate all vampires. Then again, this might get us flak from the populace.

Other possibilities.
1. Magically "neuter" their vampirism. (lose ability to enthrall people and convert people. ideally also make them able to drink animal blood)
2. Find an artificial blood substitute

... actually can vampires drink animal blood and just enjoy human blood more? Or are they incapable of doing so at all?

I am generally ok with aiming at complete genocide of vampires. but am just curious
>>
>>29341595
I picture Daywalkers are Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Vampires, which basically means they rape shit and get off on drinking human blood because fuck humans right?
Except they're immune to sunlight.
And maybe slightly less OP
>>
>>29341661
seem like a lot less op. a jojo vampire can punch through 10 feet of reinforced steel with ease. That one we fought couldn't punch his way through a few feet of rock to get out the basement.
>>
>>29341689
To be fair, we did gank him.
But fair enough.
>>
>>29341716
not saying it wasn't terrifyingly powerful. If mal didn't crit success that dispel roll we would have been in trouble. And in general we got lucky that battle.

Just that the jojo ones are utterly crazy.
