Sup /tg/. My dad recently died and wanted to be cremated. Being the oldest son and him being divorced, I got the cremains. I was thinking, since I don't really hold much stigma about disposition or whatever that they would be great for basing material or something, plus it'd be neat to say I'm still playing games "with Dad" as well. What are some creative ideas you guys would have to use these, or are they pretty much just good for basing material?Pic related. The bag of his ashes straight from the temporary box from the funeral home.
>>29414600I'm not sure if that's heartwarming or horrifying.

Yeah, nah. In the unlikely event that any of what you said is true, if you do this, you WILL at some point tell someone about it, possibly in an inebriated state, and from then on, you WILL become forever known as the guy who turned his dead dad into action figures.
Use it on the base of any 40k solider as sand.
ok A thats a good way to get cursed, and B that looks like kitty litter.
>>29414600>cremainsThat's terrible.
>>29414600those don't look like ashes
Pull a Keith Richard. Snort them with/like cocaine.
>>29414600Are you a character in a sitcom? Because this is a grade A stupid idea.
>>29414600>Anon, can you give me the cat litter, I need to use it for these miniatures.>That's not cat litter, it's my dad.
you should probably just shit in the bag, that will still be a better use for his remains than telling everyone you want to paint dumb figurines with a bag of human ashesfuckin scatter them over the ocean or a scenic vista jesus christ what the fuck is wrong with you

>>29414600On the off-chance that this is even mildly seriously, please don't.Even if you don't care about what happens to them, the rest of the family probably does. Plus if anyone else hears about what you've done, you'll probably be seen as a real weirdo and shunned.
do they really just give the remains to you in a plastic bag? fuck, even my dog got a little box for his ashes when he died.
>>29414600This can't be real.
Using it as a graying pigment in paint is probably your best bet. There are a bunch of tutorials around the 'net for paint-making, but the easy way is just a drop or so of gum, water, and whatever pigments you're using. Also, ignore the asshole anons. What you do with the ashes is between you and your dad, and I've heard of a lot worse ideas than making art.
>>29414866>assholesI'm sorry I don't use my dead father as a FUCKING MINIATURE STAND.
>>29414837Typically they'll put it in a bag unless you give them something else. My cousin came back in the same way, since my uncle hadn't finished picking out an urn until after the cremation.
Just masturbate into the ashes and mash them to make a paste for the basing. Then you will use your seed with the remains of the man that gave his seed to make you, think about it.
>>29414866>artCorrection: toys.
Why wouldn't you make dice from it, if you're going to go that far?
>>29414898Nobody's asking you to, anon. But whether or not OP does is none of your fucking business.
>>29414866>What you do with the ashes is between you and your dadNot quite. There's also the rest of the family to consider. It'd be a pretty safe bet to say some people wouldn't be happy with how his remains are treated.
>>29414940Morn!
At least get him a nice vase or something, don't keep him in a bag like groceries. My ex was (is?) keeping her dad like that (talk about daddy issues).Using him for basing is IMHO bad idea, moral ambiguity aside, you'll be getting better effect by using plastic craps painted as ashes than by using actual ashes.Besides - did he show any interest in your hobbies when he was still alive? Dragging him along now just because he can't say no is bad sport. Find him some peaceful place to rest instead, preferably with good view.
>>29414838>>29414694>>29414670Also, >>29414837They do go into a box (pic related), but they put them into a bag with a stainless steel coin to label them. For their record keeping and such. I asked about it.

>>29415136Do you actually know? Because I don't think you do.

Well OP... people sometimes use their loved one's cremains to be spread across a field, others choose to have them fired out of a cannon, and others choose to put them in ammunition for hunting. I don't see why you can't use them for other things.

>>29415268>giving Khorne ashesit's like you're asking for his scorn
Ok Bear with me, Ashes can be used to cast Concrete, so you must cast your dad "cremains" on that, then cast a figurine of your dad, then you will have a minidad figurine or cast a big statue and place it in your yard. http://www.neptunesociety.com/memorial-reef/
>>29415302>You shouldn't be playing warhammer then. The fact that warhams tend to be played by fat people doesn't mean playing warhams gets people fat. It's okay to have sedetary hobby as long as it's not your only hobby.
Ingest the ashes, child.
Well op, it's your dad so do whatever you feel he would prefer, we can't really judge that. For example if it was my case I really don't care what people decide to do with my remains, they can feed me to the pigs as as far as I care because I am fucking dead. Actually that wouldn't be a bad idea, funeral related stuff is way too expensive and I would be making my family save money.

The carbonized bits (IE ash) can be made into black paint. Any bone fragment (although these are sometimes teeth) can be turned into white paint. >>29417804>>29417763Funeral director here. Cremains are bone fragments and dust from other leftover bodies in the retorts that couldn't get scraped out the first go around. "Ashes" do look like that, and "coffins" are very seldom put in, unless they're wooden or fiberboard. Typically, bodies are placed in large cardboard boxes. It heats up to 1800-2200 degrees F, typically, so all that's left is really just calcium and whatever doesn't have a boiling point above those temperatures, like most metals (fillings, prostheses, etc)
>>29417884Yeah, most coffins in Europe are wood, that's why I said that. I'm surprised at the plastic bag thing, over here you normally get a plastic or glass urn. What do you do if someone has a whole metal hip that won't burn away? You can't just jam it in the urn.

>>29418991>I think you mean "susceptible" not sensible.Yeah sorry, english isn't my first language. The problem here is more than at those temperatures, there is a risk that the grain boundaries within the metal will melt (metals are made of a lot of crystalline grains of different orientations, pic related it's aluminium but you can see the grains). The grain boundaries are most likely to melt because their composition varies from the grain itself (a metallic alloy is rarely homogenous) and thus the melting point will be lower. Also, heating a metal will usually close the small cracks within as the atoms have the energy to "get back into their place". The ceramics, on the other hand...

If OP is planning to put the ashes/cremated remains into a Dreadnaught, my advice would be to do it with a larger statue, rather than a tabletop mini. Sculpt it 1:20 scale, and either put the remains into a compartment inside and seal them in, a la a more traditional urn, or mix them in with whatever material you use to create the statue. Make a nice display base for it, too, with a nameplate or inscription on it.Then put it on the mantel, or something.

>>29419585Actually, I was just talking to a friend who works for the main company that makes the actual bits that go into a hip replacement.Their product costs $300 to produce. They sell it to healthcare providers for $5,000-$8,000.This becomes $18,000-$30,000 for the consumer, BEFORE the actual cost of the surgery or hospital stay comes into play. And THAT is why a privatized healthcare system is fucking stupid.
>>29419660We also eat turkeys at Christmas. Fuck, my family eats turkey all the time. It's cheap as shit.

Your healthcare system is HARDLY free, it's just that by the time you use it, you've already paid the bill.>>29419447>>29419794>operating above costs = fucking stupidPart of the reason they do that is so that patients don't have to be put on years-long waiting lists for procedures like in the NHS. Because of the for-profit nature of a private healthcare system, being put on a waitlist is rare for anything but an organ transplant, where the only deciding factor is *extremely* limited supply.

>>29414600Saw this conversation pretty late- But as a licensed funeral director, I feel obligated to weigh in a bit after browsing through the comments. First off- it doesn't look like the crematory they used pulverized the cremated remains very well, but either way- its all the same. As far as mixing the cremated remains into paint- there are already companies that will, for a price, mix cremated remains into paint and use said paint to create a portrait of the decedent. So as for using them to paint minis- I'm sure it wouldn't be too terrible. Sorry about your dad's passing. Keep it real.
You should commission a custom commemorative mini of your dad. You could even have it mounted on a hollow glass base that hold some of the remains. My dad wants to have his skin (specifically his tattoos) tanned and mounted for my brother and I to have and display.
>>29420971Thank you from bringing the French and German systems to my attention, I can only give a cursory glance to them at this time, but I'll be doing further research as a result. France's system isn't state-run, and it SURE as fuck isn't single-payer like the Canadian or UK systems. Without spending a few hours on research as I've done with the Canadian system (I can't find a formal name, if anyone knows of one, please let me know) and NHS: The patients in the French system get reimbursed for their healthcare expenditures along a sliding scale, and the German system seems to be akin to a mix of American worker's compensation and Medicare, systems that Americans tend to be quite fond of.Part of the problem the US has is our for-profit INSURANCE and the entire damn insurance system. They have to serve two masters as a result of their nature as both publicly traded AND for-profit entities: their shareholders, and their subscribers. Like anything, they can't serve two masters, and they have a legal obligation to server their shareholders' interests, leaving their subscribers in the dust.

>>29419794>$18,000-$30,000 for the consumer,Because of the way the insurance acts as an insulator against costs for many so the hospitals feel not so bad for gouging the insurance companies and the insured customers only shrug off their copay/deductible It screws the un/underinsured quite hard though.

Then, to finish it off, we have a public healthcare system, but it essentially works like the last resort: it's free, mostly, but you can wait up to a month to get a specialist, and operations can take weeks of planning. If you need an emergency, prepare to pay. So most people just use the private healthcare and ignore the public one.

If he was a religous man, an urn with a portrait of him while he was alive with in a small shrine with, depending on religion, a holy symbol (like a crucifix for a christian).
