I think a lot of the problem here is a misunderstanding, between half the players and the other half out of character, and between Reinhold and Marianne/Elena in character.

The first group (and apparently Reinhold from last night) thought that it had been explained that sure, they could come along for the carriage ride to chat, and they'd be heading back. Then they arrived, Elena decided to change the deal, wigged out and flew away. Then suddenly Marianne starts yelling at him for not realizing Elena would decide things were going to happen differently than she would be told, and not knowing that she could (poorly) fly. How in the world do you foresee that?

The other half (as well as Elena and Marianne ICly) thought Reinhold had agreed to let them come along for the entire visit, then capriciously decided to change the plan at the last moment. From that point of view, he's being a pretty damn big jerk.

tl;dr: Reinhold thought Elena changed the plan at the last minute and threw an entirely unexpected tantrum that he couldn't have predicted, Elena (and Mari) think Reinhold just decided to kick Elena out against his word.

This isn't necessarily bad for the story- I'm sure most of us have seen misunderstandings like that happen before- but I'm guessing this is probably why half the players think the other half are insane and vice-versa.

Takamaru is the ideal body guard. He's serious and attentive at all times, but knows when to inject a small amount of levity to diffuse a situation or show a bit of restraint. It's never about what he wants, it's about what his clients need.

Reinhold is a damn good swordsman and will stop any real threats before they happen, but I feel Reinhold thinks a bit too much about himself by comparison. I think the issue is that in a large part, the king hired us to be her friend as much as actually guard her. The princesses have enough magic power to handle themselves in average scraped or even a small group. He doesn't treat us like a servant, he treats us like a bro and invites us to do things WAY above our station.

Some of the other bodyguards are the same way. The prince obviously needs a role model more than a bodyguard, and Elena is more a danger to herself than anyone else is to her, so she basically needs a father figure the king can't be. Takamaru on the other hand came on to a temporary contract knowing his work relations would largely be professional in nature. Luciana is basically a work friend to him and so is everyone else. When the job ends he just goes home to his hobbies and his fishing and finds another job.

Reinhold meanwhile has to insert himself fully into what's obviously a lifelong dynamic and even after Marianne becomes queen and probably doesn't need a guard, we'll likely just be there as a knight and her friend. The nature of his relationship to everyone else is really kinda highschooly and takes on the little flaws of that kind of system. Monique isn't a dangerous rival or a co-worker in the same organization, he's just that prick with a different homeroom. Luciana isn't a foreign dignitary to be given circumstance and protocol, she's just a rich chick from a snobby prep school across town.

You can't really seperate yourself professionally when you're Reinhold, for better or worse.
