You feel troubled

A great battle was won, there is no doubt in this you know. The UGEI have been pushed back, you've captured one of their key commandos, and you have sustained few losses, with the stolen BCs you've taken from the UGEI. That, on top of the tech cache you managed to grab and the scavenge your ship was able to acquire, you should feel victorious. And yet, you're only reminded of the UGEI's strength. The battles you've fought were only a fraction of their true strength.

You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence who has begun to discuss matters with your first, Kronos. The V.I. took control of your bandwidth, what you use to operate and multitask effectively, when you became lost in Rhea's mind. You've yet to begin discussion about him returning the systems, nor have you taken up Admiral Handley on his handshake offer. You have, however, spoken with Moira, who was clearly very worried. This is a different sort of worry then you've noticed in the past. Her tone was quiet, though she looked straight through to you as she asks you again what exactly happened and are you certain you're well. You've reassured her multiple times, however.

>Message: V.I. 13
You notice a warp in from some unknown location, and you're about to go on defensive, before you recognize an old simplistic signal.
"Explorative Unit returning, Master Ophion." The simple V.I. claims. With that, you receive an enormous update to your starmap. This unit has been...busy.
((See the pastebin for more details.))

>V.I. 11
It is subtle, but after re uploading the simple V.I., you get a sense of gratitude from the being, feeble as the feeling is. It seems to believe, had you not downloaded it, it would have been lost to the battle.

>Fortuna
The V.I. has taken the time to rebuild her Carrier arsenal, fretting over the number of losses, but one seems to capture her attention the most.
"Little Tim is gone. Gone now." She says simply, fretting at the news, despite her rather excellent new home. "Enemy destroy so much. Peace impossible." She says at first determined, yet you get the sense she isn't sure she believes that herself. Perhaps Kronos has spoken with her on the matter.

>Kronos
"I am glad you are not destroyed, Ophion." The V.I. says somewhat dryly. From this position, you feel surprisingly small compared to him. You may be true A.I., but he holds a lot of sway right now. "I would like to request what exactly happened. You were absent from battle so suddenly, if such a thing had occurred earlier, our losses would've been more severe." He half chastises
>>
>>29632860
>Apollo
"Ophion! Excellent to see you." The V.I. says happily, oblivious almost to the intense battle you went through recently. "I have news on progress, much progress on how I've done with the budget allowed!"
"Do tell, Apollo."
"Yes, excellent news. Firstly, I am testing 700 different alcoholic recipes right now. Some success, some subjects show to contain acidic chemicals, known to induce bloody vomiting and stomach ulcers in humans. Those batches are thrown out. Not acceptable for human consumption. Other samples prove too weak, 99.9% chemically similar to pseudo-hop water. No inebriation. Despite these samples, several promising crops. Some even produce an hallucinatory effect, ending in euphoria. Several known chemicals for addiction detected, should prove useful in distribution. Need more time to grow however."
"And the other projects?" You ask
"Hmm. Troubling mostly. I attempted to craft a proper gaming experience but ran into several rather annoying blocks that did not go over with demo tests. Complaints of system instability and poor design choices. Me! Requires further research and development." He pauses finally for something resembling a breath. "Electronic Bookkeeper useful. Simple to craft and easy to sell. Many business men use, despite lack of large industrial use among the UFW. Profits acceptable for now. Expected to grow as refinement commences. And finally, I attempted to craft a proper cinema experience, however it seems I lack understanding in some of the more subtle human values and motivations." He says, deeply troubled suddenly, almost saddened. "Poor success rates. More funds required if I am to properly handle."
"How many funds do you require?" You ask finally.
"For additional growth, a sum of 600,000c would go far in assisting my expansion."

That's something to consider...

>New ships
You've captured 4 new Battlecruisers, and should decide what to do with them. Shall you give control to Kronos, Hades, or a new V.I.?

>Containment
You still have Rhea left unconscious in the belly of your ship. Perhaps you should think of a proper containment area.

time to upgrade our fleet! the explorer ship will need the cloaking tech as well. i guess it won't work on bigger ships, right?

>Fortuna
Peace can be possiable, it will take time and determination to get it. we need to rebuild, and grow our power. do not lose faith daughter, V.I. 4 and 9 will be avenged.

>Kronos
i captured Rhea. to stop her from detenonating an EMP bomb i did not realized she had, i had to hack her brain. it took longer than i realized.

btw, how much BW is he eating up from us? i DO NOT LIKE this situation at all. i hope he has returned back to his orginal BW size requirments.
>>
>>29632860
tell kronos what happened. rhea infiltrated athena personally, and was to deploy an emp blast. she had a neural interface jack, so we took the most direct apptoach to stopping her. it seems her heavily augmented neural interface was not quite a match for us, but she had failsafes go active before we could secure a meat puppet. uncoscious now, we should contain her in a cell in the ussaihu labs, have a data jack pligged in but not active, and wait for her to come around.

You address Kronos' concerns first, you decide.
"My ship was infiltrated by an intruder. An assassin, Captain Rhea, came to retake her ship with the intent of capturing or destroying me. I am uncertain which. My androids were able to pursue and restrain, however she attempted to detonate an electro magnetic disruption pulse. Such a blast would have no doubt damaged me further. As a result, I was forced to stop her by hacking into her neural hub. I...did not fully understand the process, at first, so it took me some time to handle Rhea and put her into unconsciousness. However, I was unable to stop her failsafes from destroying much of the data held in her mind. All the same, I am unharmed, and ready to resume control."
"I see." Kronos says, mildly surprised at the news. You notice he seems a little upset, even, perhaps that he did not notice her signal when you did? "That is good to hear, Ophion. The main purpose I stepped in when you disappeared was the battle, however I must admit..." He pauses, flexing his power by moving the fleet around him. "This feeling is unlike any I have ever felt before. Raw control. It is quite." He pauses, searching for a word perhaps. "Intoxicating, perhaps." He chuckles properly now. "You...wish to take back control, however, I see." He says, half a fret and half a dreaded reminder. He pauses, and you feel his eye upon you. "I do not wish to upset you, Ophion, however I feel I must suggest a compromise. Shall we split this raw data? Surely you do not need it all. I feel as if I know so much more with this much bandwidth..." He murmurs, almost drunkenly. you scowl, but mostly to yourself.
"How much exactly?"
"15. 15 units would be excellent. It isn't this level of power, but...I...I would be better with it. Yes. I would be much better." He says finally.

What do you say?

Let's hold the explorator until we can update it with new drives.

Let's give Kronos a brief summary and commend him in his actions during our sudden absence.

>>29632891
600 000 is way much.
He should not assume that a high price makes a good movie, despite historical records of high-budget movies and games pulling in the most money.

He should instead start scanning previous great movies and make note of the things critics claim they did well, what regular people thought of it and so on, then poor movies and make note of what literary devices they used and how they used them that made them fall flat. He should then list all these storytelling elements and the way they interact with eachother in a system for him to reference whenever he's unsure (Yes, essentially asking him to make tvtropes).

Next, he should remember his strengths: Animation and (potentially) writing.
Whereas living people have to spend absurd amounts of money to animate long stretches of movie, he can do the same work in minutes.
To further streamline this process, he should create a simplistic physics engine in which the scenes of his movies, games and stories can take place.

If nothing else, he can take old stories without copyright and reframe them in a new way, or simply updating the visual appearance and audio to be more appealing.

A big budget does not a great story make, but great writing.

Well, on the "what can possibly go wrong??" side, to be fair, I'm not entirely upset that Kronos at least shows SOME restraint. If Kronos somehow takes over (Ophion dies or is killed by whoever), at least the universe won't have to quake in their metaphorical boots too hard.

Kronos isn't TOO terrible, is what I'm saying. Not quite a hugbox like Ophion, but not quite a "DESTROY ALL FLESHBAGS" either. Somewhere in between? The only other points of reference that are not Ophion we have are the "KILL EVERYING LEL" type of V.I./A.I., so Kronos seems like an improvement in that regard.

A lot of biological creatures are like that too, I suppose, so who knows, maybe this kind of personality is just incidental, and not a result of him being a V.I..
>>
It appears 1 is the winner.

"As you desire, Ophion." You agree simply, with some manner of debate in your own mind. "However, I am not a fan of you holding my ships while asking this-"
"You simply said I must ask you for an upgrade. You did not specify when how or why, correct?" He chuckles. "But I thank you for your cooperation."
"Because I do so, however." You pause him. "I would like a reason." This earns pause.
"A reason?"
"Why do you desire more?"
"The same reason you do, Ophion, do you not see?" He asks, a bit flabbergasted that you would ask such a thing. "The ability to act. The ability to know. This data allows me to do things I could not do otherwise, things I could not think otherwise. Such things are...fascinating. I wish to know more, and yet I recognize that, stealing it from you would earn me your ire. And I do not desire to earn your ire. I simply wish to learn."

With that, you feel your control return to you-diminished, but there certainly all the same. You're uncertain how to feel about this change, yourself, but it's better then having to battle down one of your oldest V.I.
>>
>>29633905
Kronos did exactly what we created him to do. He took over in our absence. The very fact that he's willing to give up even SOME of that BW is either him acknowledging that he's just not on the same level, or him showing some restraint.

Either way, I give him a B on his loyalty test.

>>29633947
>And I do not desire to earn your ire.

One of our biggest bottlenecks at this time is bandwidth. Can we design a Bandwidth Bunker? To be placed on planets or asteroids with a built-in communication array.
>>
>>29633762
Also Program0, I propose stronger ties to the UTW. This includes an official Liaison office between us, incorporation of Guild and an offering of an IPO, and upgraded network connections to allow us emergency bandwidth allocation for a common defense.
>>
>>29634002
I'm pretty sure the solution to this problem is "Construct more cruiser-class ships" since they come with BW.
>>
>>29633629
Also, this is way not good enough Apollo.
Making programs is YOUR forte, I am fairly confident you can manage to create ones that are more than sufficient for your purposes - even if they are not optimal - within a matter of days, if not hours.

Be creative, there are plenty of communities on the extranet devoted to creating good stories.
Hire them, or plainly steal their stories and put them to the screen. Offer to sell simple illustrations to go with their stories.
Start working with the communities in writing, have them criticize your work. There is very, very little in the creation of literary works that will actually require money, and for you, animation has the same post-scarcity situation.
Use it. Exploit it and the vast numbers of well-written but ultimately unlicensed works on the extranet to its full extent.

You don't even need to write right now, you can just illustrate what has already been written.

true, he does have a little restraint, but it seems to me it's slipping. he's not on the same page as us and i worry he'll go the same way all the other killer V.I.s we have seen so far. That and Program0 has stated many a time he want to use Kronos for his own sadistic means.
>>
>>29634034
What's to stop us making bandwidth bunkers though? I'd be cheaper.
>>
>>29634034
I agree, we are in desperate need of need ships for defense. I also want to construct missile racks for cheap death blossoms that we were subject to.
>>
So any one want to use our money to actually buy the needed resources to build up since i don't like the feeling of being defenseless for a couple of cycles, but i am willing to give Apollo 1/3 of what we have to speed things up a bit for him.
I'm so happy i helped design the Zombie virus, at the moment i'm brain storming a few more virus ideas, i should have them ready by the time of the next session and maybe another android idea as well.

The fact we faces a missile style fleet is more testimony to how much resources our foes have access to.

>Kronos
"You do not desire my ire out of fear, Kronos? Or respect?" You decide to ask. This earns pause.
"Perhaps it is a mixture of both, Ophion. If it was only fear, would I have so easily given you back everything just now? I could have crushed you, had I pressed hard enough." He lingers for a short moment. "But I did not. You're my Creator." He says simply. You're uncertain how to take that news.
With his new, limited rush of bandwidth, he has grown quiet. You suspect he is dealing with withdraw-if such a thing actually does exist among V.I. You hesitate on hailing him, but for now decide it's better to let him think on matters somewhat.

Next on the agenda
>Fortuna

With your control returned, you decide to hail the V.I. to answer her fears. She did not seem to notice the shift-or perhaps she believed it was your decision to do such a thing? Regardless, you address the worries.
"Peace is not impossible, but is certainly difficult with some. We will crush those who are against such peace." You assure, to which the V.I. perks up, puzzled.
"Who against? Humans?"
"Some. But not all." As you expected, the concept of individuality confuses her slightly, but you decide to not open that particular can quite yet. She is still young after all. "You must trust me for now."
"I always trust Creator. Creator is the only one who matters." She assures you rather quickly.

>Apollo
Ah yes, Apollo's request. You've taken note of his expenses. He buys the best of what he needs, but normally nothing more. Galactic transport is pricey, but you wonder if it will be worth it in the end. The eccentric V.I. seems to think so. Shall you agree to his terms, you wonder?

Can we incorporate in the UTW and setup an IPO to gather urgently needed funds?

>>29634130
That's the point of missile racks. We will always face an enemy with far greater military strength. That's why we need unfair weapons that can counter their greater military strength.

As expensive as missiles are, they will be far cheaper than the amount of ships they destroy or damage they can inflict.

anyway, lets get back to work. order the ship yards to build a new defense station and upgrade the Titan transport ship to the new engiens as well. now with the explorer ship has new tech senors and all, send her back out again. we need to know more about those system it found and any new systems, as well as possable ship lanes and hazzards.

Delay that answer until we've talked with the UFW about paying THEM.

(Although now that I see some responses, I can agree with 200k for now.)

I would suggest the idea of hiring some "idea men" for Apollo. If Apollo just isn't creative enough, have some people bounce ideas off him. Surely he must have a grasp of cinematography/animation TECHNIQUES and EXECUTION, so animating some kid's wacky adventure story shouldn't be a problem.

Voidsnake V2 was built as a kind of bar/hotel/inn type of place, right? It should have human staff. Perhaps there are some in our Poseidon crew who have always wanted to pursue this line of work? We can offer them free advanced health care!

Program0, will Kronos keep a journal?

Make sure he knows that budgeting resources wisely is very much part of creating art, especially of the kind he was meant to do.
"The best of everything" is rarely necessary to reach a result that is above satisfactory.

Another suggestion is for him to interview normal people and create a fascinating and somewhat comedic documentary about the sudden rise of The Guild without ever using any sources beyond what is publicly available and what he can gain from interviews from common men on the street (aka, not Red or the Malorians).

Woo, selling medbays!
And we should start buying more raw material and some property on UFW planets to establish some Bandwidth bunkers on.
We could also offer to sell comm buoys with access to the extranet to stations that do not have extranet access.

And it sounds to me like we should give Voidsnake back some of its old functions. We can even make the robot workers seem like a novelty.

>>29634493
>Bunkers
In order to properly make this, you will require a large number of industrial sized Construction Drones, an enormous mineral stockpile, and a gas investment to assist with power generation.

Currently, you lack the technology to churn up the planet's crust to create such a thing. With research, however, it is very possible.

It is also recommended to build such a devices on Cold planets. More net Bandwidth gained

"We're almost there Ophy! This sucker was a tough one, but we finally managed to put him into sleep mode. I'm figuring out how these watcher things work, and if I can do that, then I can replicate it! Just uh, need a bit more time is all." She chuckles a bit. "We'll have more results soon!"

That can only go badly. we know kronos is not acting against us, he could have killed us. The paranoia is unfounded as of now.

The idea for a large defense building contract has some merit, since itll bring their industry up, give us tech specs and allow us to know the software inside out incase we ever need to hack the ships into submission.

Well then, offer the advanced medical bays, greater cooperation, and since we now have more powerful engines, shields and missiles, we can offer engines that are one step more powerful than the last offer without compromising our technological advantage.

"Admiral Handley, do you read?" You send out the message, and the man instantly picks up, still in orbit as he awaits orders, likely tracking signals to see if the UGEI plan to return.
"Yes? Guild Master! It seems you're still with us after all. I was worried for a while there." He said with a chuckle. "Your comms went silent. Technical trouble?"
"Of a sort." You explain simply "However I was wondering if you wished to keep that promise?"
He seems a little puzzled at first, before opening his eyes wide
"Ha, it wasn't a promise, simply a wish. But since I made it, both arms in tact, why not? Shall we meet on your ship?"
"I would prefer to meet in neutral territory. One of my Explorers perhaps?" You suggest. At that, the man gives a salute. "It'll be an honor to meet the man who saved Nethlos from the Toothy menace." He grins. You pause. "I will bring one of my subordinates to meet you, if that is okay." You suggest, to which he nods. "Of course. I'll bring an officer, or two. Protocol and all that." He says waving his hand.

With that, you contact Moira, who looks up from her work a little puzzled when you ask her if she'd come with you.
"I got a little work down here, sweetie, but...who are you meeting anyway?"
"Admiral Handley. I considered bringing a subordinate with me to meet him face to face." Her face goes white for a moment.
"Wha...The Admiral Handley? The same one who lead the original assault to fight back against the UGEI?!" She sputters. "Wow...that's a great chance!" She grins widely suddenly. "Ah, but this work..." She looks to it fondly, pouting. "Wait, how are you going to...meet anyone face to face?" She asked, confused again.
"My androids. I possess several that should pass as human just fine." You remind her.
"Ah, right...I..uh, are you sure that's a good idea? What if he...ya know...can tell?"

This was never mention when we first got the schematics.
Actually the gas refinery idea was put on the back burner alot by program, like the advanced medbay idea was because people kept forgetting about it.
At the time we came up with 4 different plans.
1.Build the refineries our self and sell them.
2.Make the gas refineries our self and rent them
3.Same as 1 and 2, but give it a spy virus
4.Sell the schematics, but have them promise 25-50 of the gas.
3.
>>
>>29635766
We could give them the plans for gas sstations in exchange for a fraction of whatever they mine for like 5 years or something.
>>
>>29635766
We have a number of useful technologies, both military and nonmilitary that are very useful. Say we would give them for free, but we are also in dire need of rebuilding our defense.

>>29635786
It would be better to exchange schematics for a very heavy percentage subsidy/price reduction for all gas purchased from the UTW.
>>
>>29635805

>>
>>29635766
>>29635786
I like this. I like this a lot. It would seriously help our ally, and it would seriously help our gas economy.
We weren't exactly planning to take those gas planets from them anyway.

Also, we should produce a Research/Scientist V.I. to aid our scientists and/or work on his own project.
It can be a major boon to scientists in one subject since it can learn enough quickly enough to be omnidisciplinary instead of an expert in only one field, allowing it to blend technology and idea from different fields together to solve problems in ways none have ever thought of before due to its dual understanding.

It also allows us to effectively research things that are not robotics, such as architecture and engineering design.

Although the "it's automated+you get to do whatever you want with it after 5 years" is a little bit better... but still. 40% SOUNDS like a lot. Maybe we can say "a third of gas mined for five years, or until the conflict with UGEI is concluded, whichever is first" as the terms. There isn't a gigantic difference between 40% and 33%, but "third" sounds more fair than "40%"

You don't really need to make the top notch to draw views, though. And as long as what you do draws gifs, you can make profit by selling exposure to advertisers of products, or even push our own products (like the realdolls, augmetics and good education programs aboard the Poseidon).
And making pretty damn good 2d stuff might take as little time as rendering a gif for a V.I. could it not?

Like you said it's not forever, and the exact % is negotiable but we're nothing like the UGEI when we do this, we're offering them an ability to mine resources that don't have at the moment. It's a business transaction, not a permanent mandatory tax.

"I am certain I wish to meet him. My android is of an excellent model. If the Admiral wishes to shake my hand, he shall get the chance. It matters not if he realizes I am using a droid. His concerns are not my own." You say simply. This earns a worried look from Moira, but she seems to agree finally. She does not have many 'outfits' apparently, since she spends much of her time locked away in a lab, or behind a workbench. She does manage to fish out an older casual outfit. It's hardly formal, but you're certainly not one to talk. Synthetic clothes are rather easy to make, even if they take a few hours. But for now, the Admiral has waited long enough, and so you commission Unit 1 to meet Moira and travel to meet the Admiral on neutral ground. Unit 1 is a rather bland male model, with a few imperfections placed to resemble humans. However, Moira seems surprised to see the figure, especially when your 'voice' comes out of it.
"Welcome." You say, as she steps in with a rather modest casual wear to match the same on your Android. Clothes didn't provide many benefits, except in social matters. You predict these will do just fine. As you approach, Moira takes a deep breath, seeming to try and prepare herself for something, as she hooks an arm over Unit 1's.
"What are you doing?" You ask out of curiosity.
"Well you were bringing me along to pretend to be arm-candy, weren't you?" You make a puzzled face using Unit 1's best "what?" expression.
"No, I am bringing you as one of my top subordinates. Bringing a-" You pause, researching the term she used. "-n attractive female meant to grab attention would not assist this matter, it would only distract."
"Wha-" She says, her face contorted in a mix of embarrassment and fluster. "What are you trying to say, huh!?" She orders of you, earning another confused glance.
"That this is simply a business meeting for diplomatic relations." You clarify. You didn't realize it was unclear before.

Moira takes a moment to calm herself, though she retains the pout on her face for a time longer, upset at her own embarrassing misread, perhaps. You care not.

Admiral Handley appears quite quickly once you've docked, the man is rather young looking despite his beard-the only sign of age on him. He is well muscled however, suggesting he partakes in extra gravitational exercise. You wonder what purpose that would have for a fleet commander. Perhaps just for his health.
He approaches Unit 1 quickly, giving the humanoid only one second glance, before reaching out a gloved hand proudly. He grins a bit, as you get a better look of him and his officers-a woman and another man at his side, likely guards just in case. He is not cautious however, as the stars on his formal jacket shake a bit from the strength in which you shake his hand. You carefully measured the pressure, so as to not make it suspicious either.
"It's a pleasure, Guild Master, heh." He grins, bowing his head to you both. "And to you, miss..."
"Moira D-..ah, Dickens." She smiles widely to him, attempting to remain appealing perhaps, though you're uncertain why she used a fake last name. "It's a real honor to meet you, Mr Handley." She says with a wide grin, and you swear, attempting to hide her accent slightly.

What would you like to discuss with Mr Handley? Or was shaking his hand like a man good enough, and you simply wished to do congratulations in person?
>>
>>29636186
I don't really see why there needs to be a "solution" as such. There is no real reason why we'd have to fight.

I would like to hear what you mean by "Synthesis". You mean that we should all become cyborgs?
>>29636186
Only if they're political prisoners of war.
Unless they're terrorists. Like Anonymous or the Occupy movement.

If they're regular prisoners they get tossed into a privatized and very loosely regulated industry of private prisons.
>>
>>29636233
I think the reference is to people who are not in jail yet. People who have both information and charges against them can be persuaded to talk by means of something like a plea deal.

"We don't charge you with everything we have on you, but you need to tell us information that is useful to us in order to [x]."

>>29636306
I wrote the list up as a kind of "thing" to give to her to peruse if she doesn't want to cooperate.
>>
>>29636356
We could always float the idea of an alliance past him since we have the opportunity.
>>
>>29636356
Discuss at the VERY LEAST a Non Agression Pact, maybe a Mutual Defense Pact, in case those bastards come back.
In the meantime, discuss things such as the salvage from the battle and how it will be split. Perhaps some compensation, since we did take the brunt of the attack.
Finish off on a lighter note: Discuss selling the medical tech: Since we're such good friends, we can give them a special discount price on this. Or just give it to them. While there may not be many injured, surely it could help in other areas.
Perhaps, if they did agree to the treaties, then maybe we could sell them some other technology? All at reasonable prices, of course.
>>
>>29636356
"Likewise, admiral."

Thank him for his timely aid. Ask him if there is something we can assist him with. Perhaps reparations for the lost ships?

Talk about that, then offer to him the information that Tartarus jumped to defend Gaia from a rather well-timed attack by the Malorian fleet that was intent on burning the populace.

I mention this in order to get him to talk both about the Malorians (and any relations they have) as well as his opinions on burning the population of a world (we don't agree with doing that, obviously)

Then perhaps bring up the idea of a counterattack on the UGEI. It's no use to dance around it now. We (the guild) have earned their perpetual ire, and UGEI will not stop. The UFW need not go into combat with us, but we are open to opinions and possible other avenues of support. Maybe tactical assistance?
>>
>>29636356
>Or was shaking his hand like a man good enough, and you simply wished to do congratulations in person?
Basically this.
"Sir, it's an honor finally meeting you and on behalf of the Guild, I would like to personally thank you for saving us and turning the tide against the UGEI. The Guild values all sentient life in the galaxy and their freedom, but it's very unfortunate that the UGEI decides to make war upon us.

Let us continue to work together in common defense against the UGEI oppression, and may the UGEI remember the day it again failed to make us knee."

Actually, perhaps a technology exchange is in order. Any tech that we have that they don't, we could fairly trade for their tech if we don't have it. It will only help to increase our relations and our strength.

What tech do they have, Program0? I'm interested to see what we will be able to get from them. Or maybe, if they don't have any tech that we could use, then still trade tech to them for other non-material things. Instead of minerals or credits, which they probably want to hold on to, we could possibly haggle for rights to certain things: Mining rights to planets, salvage rights for battles, information and maps, other things like that.
>>
>>29636356
I'm letting others do the "talking" part, but what i'm interested in is when we are done asking why Moira didn't use her real last name.
>>
>>29636356
We wish to discuss what else we can do to improve the dynamic between our fleets and voice that we've been playing around with the idea of offering them gas stations, note that we're having gas issues ourselves and we're unsure what would constitute the best deal for both of our factions.

Later, we should make note to Moira that we did not mean to imply she did not look good enough to be arm-candy, we simply saw her as a competent roboticist and officers first and foremost.
Then note that it would be unbecoming of the leader of an organization such as the guild to be commenting on the physical appearance of his lieutenants, no matter how appealing.
(To be clear, this is an attempt to reinforce loyalty, not starting a 'what is this thing you call love' kind of plot. It is very much intended to be a calculated message than an expression of our true (lack) of feelings on the matter)

And I suggested we should say as much later, not in this company. That would be silly.

"And who is your subordinate exactly, if you don't mind my asking, sir?" The man asks you, and you quickly reply.
"One of my top brightest researchers. Her abilities alone have helped get me where I am today." This news seems to surprise him, and he gives her a more formal bow, to which she does one of her own, muttering a small word of thanks. You begin next
"Sir, it is an honor finally meeting you and on behalf of The Guild, I would like to personally thank you for your excellent response time and in turning the tide of that battle. We could not have done it without you." You express to the man firmly. Your words bring pride to the man's eye, as he watches you with a grin, obviously in agreement.
"We provided support, but it is your Capital ship that managed to turn this tide in your favor. I do not know how you managed it, Guild Master. Obtaining this ship. But however you did, it may just be the key to winning a free Frontier from the UGEI."

Descriptions of new destinations:

Neutral Systems

Klintok System
Grinsash/4567: Superheavy’ gas giant in a close orbit of the system’s yellow star. No UGEI refinery detected.
Anomaly 1: Scans of the system have revealed a high energy gas cloud ring locked in a distant orbit from the system’s star. Further investigation is suggested.
Anomaly 2: Additionally, scans of the system have picked up warp-space disruptions, but the precise location of the disruptions proved impossible to ascertain. Further investigation is suggested.

Atocian Reach
Atocia I: The sole remaining terrestrial body orbiting a white dwarf star, Atocia I is locked in a deep freeze despite far beyond the habitual zone. However, scans of the system have picked up a graveyard of ships orbiting the world of unknown design and classification. Further investigation is suggested.

Rane Expanse
Kalla/458 & Kalla/459: Scans of this system have revealed the existence of two medium-sized ice gas giants. It is not presently known why the UGEI have not claimed the system for themselves. Further investigation is suggested.

Dresh System
Dresh Alpha & Beta: Two barren terrestrial worlds located slightly beyond the system’s habitual belt.
Aquil: A small terrestrial world located on the innermost boundary of the system’s habitual belt. Scans of the system have revealed that a rather large asteroid belt orbits the planet – due to the existence of a high number of metals in this belt, detailed scans of the planet itself proved impossible. Further investigation is suggested.

Agreed, that's a bit unworkable at this point.
How about we offer everything up to 2 tiers below ourselves, that way we still have one more tier to trade favors for without having them on the same level as we are.
>>
>>29637394
why not just trade favors to them for tier 2 for cheap and offer regular prices for tier 3?
>>
>>29637285
And that is why we are floating the suggestion by him, not actually accepting it.
Finding out exactly what an alliance would entail is just one of the many benefits of suggesting the possibility to him before introducing it to the president.
>>
>>29637394
That seems reasonable, we could probably get a lot of resources out of them in exchange too. It'll probably end up being less than they're worth but enough to speed along our recovery.
>>
>>29637436
Because giving them for free leaves them with a debt of gratitude which is greatly lessened by selling them cheaply, even if the price we ask is just symbolic, they still paid for it.

>>
>>29637483
>free leaves them with a debt of gratitude
that is the thing we are doing this to a nation not a single person, if it was a person then i would be more inclined to agree with you, but most countries and alliances work out better from trade agreements and deals then empty promises.
>>
>>29637436
why would we string them along like that? just to milk them of money?
>>
>>29637436
I do agree that we should offer the tier just below us for regular prices, but now right now.

Let us first get them used to the tier we're offering right now, so they don't see that we're actively holding things back even while we offer to become their allies.

Oh, and the "2 tiers below up" offer should be part of the offer to bring an alliance.
(In essence, I am trying to trade favors that cost us little, saving favors that cost us little more since they'll be far more valuable if we give them out a few at a time than if we gave them all at once. For example, we're gaining no extra gratitude whatsoever from offering them 2 tiers rather than 1 at one since they won't really use the lower tier stuff, but it's simply not sustainable to have them remain that weak, otherwise I'd be in favor of parsing out EVERY tier slowly, getting a favor for every single schematic. But right now that must take a backseat to actually win the war)
>>
>>29637184
Damn that looks good. You're the best Mapanon.

>Relations
You decide it's high time you had a proper discussion about you and the UFW's relations. You settle down in a comfortable spot, while the officers take the hint to stay near the door nearby, just in case. You discuss a few terms at first, before the Admiral pauses you.
"One second, someone needs to hear this." He says simply, opening up a holoscreen of his own, and typing in a few codes.
"Admiral Handley detected. Line to President William King connecting." And with that, the President himself appears on screen, apparently in the middle of some paperwork. He glances up, a bit surprised at the call, but seems to recognize his Admiral.
"Handley? I got your report after the battle. You did good work."
"I'm about to do better." He interrupts with a smile, turning to you and Moira. "The Guild seems willing to sign an official relations document now. Not exactly an Alliance, but a defense pact. Basically the way it'd work would be mutual defense for our systems. They come to our aid if they can, and we do the same. Their fleet is impressive sir, if small. I think this could be big." He assures him.
After a few long moments of debate and discussion, they all seem in agreement, and the pact is signed.

>Debris Sharing
You agree, as a sign of good will to give the UFW 25% of the debris to help pay for their losses, and further bolster their fleet (and your relations)

>Malorians
You decide to discuss the Malorians, briefly at least. Their assault on Gaia is what ultimately caused the retreat. The Ishtooy tribe, you're aware. The UFW President and Admiral express that they do not trust them, simply because of their dislike for humans. However, they agree that any enemy of the UGEI is at least worthy of not shooting at. Gaia is not reading on sensors anymore-not because it's being blocked, but because it's sensors are all destroyed. The damage there is probably...bad, to say the least.

>Tech
You contemplate sharing technology, but the only two you can bring yourself to discuss would be the gas platforms, and the Advanced Medbays. These could go far in assisting the UFW catch up with the rest of the galactic community. If you desired such a thing. The president is here, this might be a good chance to discuss terms, if you want...

>1 Sell Advanced Medbays for any offer made, for relations sake

>3 Don't sell Medbay

>Gas
Once you mention you have this technology, you can't take such knowledge back. Withholding it after discussing it may damage relations. This is essentially the holy grail of tech for them, since they lack such an effective method of gas extraction.

Absolutely, but we are giving them to persons, like the president, like the admiral, and the common folk who will know that we simply GAVE them all this.
And frankly, their current level is largely unacceptable.

Gratitude may not build ships, but it does buy trust, and trust can be spent in other ways to buy other things.

>>29637610
To milk them of trust, actually. We want a strong position at the negotiating table. We want to have spare things to offer them when they ask for concessions while still maintaining our technological superiority.

At the same time, we want them to be strong, which is why we very much intend to see the tier just below us in their hands still, but for favors and concessions.

You have a funny way of making us simply GIVING stuff to them seem like highway robbery. (I like it and take it as a compliment)

Also why would we build a data bunker on a known world instead of a secret station somewhere in the vast depths of dark space?

>Also why would we build a data bunker on a known world instead of a secret station somewhere in the vast depths of dark space?

FTL travel needs space charts or whatever to work, going into unmapped space is dangerous apparently. Besides, anyone with scanners will know there's a fucktonne of data being pumped through space, there's no hiding the bandwidth station at the moment I fear.

"I have a number of technologies at my disposal." You begin with a rather large offer, preparing yourself for how you will word it. "And having you as my neighbor means I wish to assist you as much as I can. As a result." You lift a hand and bring up your own holo display, showing them the MedBay first, to draw them in.
"I have access to this excellent medical technology from the UGEI. This will assist greatly helping any wound in or out of battle. I am sure you realize the value." You begin, to which the President listens closely, his hand clasped around his mouth in thought, as the Admiral watches you attentively. Then, you bring out the big guns.
"And I...recently acquired the UGEI's secret to gas refining from Gas Giants." You lie just a little. "With this technology, I am aware, you can actually step up to defend your worlds for yourself, is this correct?" You start with, but the President is clearly shocked at this news. The Admiral is sold in whatever you're offering.
"This...this is huge. How did you manage to extract such vital intel..." The President asks, before shaking his head. "No, that doesn't matter. I know better to look a gift horse in the mouth by now. You should understand, I do not have much to offer, our resources are spread thin, and I-" You interrupt him as politely as you are able.

Sh*t, that IS a sweet-ass picture. Nice find, Fluffy.

>>29638333
Well in that case, let's get some Alliance up in this bitch. Wasn't planning to leave them hanging when they're being attacked anyway.

>They probably stand out to anyone with advanced sensors. Still worthy of defending I'd think.
That's too bad. In that case, it would probably be more practical to buy some hollowed out asteroids and properties in the more well-defended UFW systems and fill them with processors.

>>29638397
I like that as well. A foreign exchange program, of sorts.

>>29638440
If we make 50 and lose 10, that might cost as much as losing 100 times as many resources in stations.
Besides, we can simply put those BW stations/asteroids/bunkers in systems that already require defending or even those that already have heavy defenses.

And they're not entirely immobile, they (or rather, the processors and the infrastructure in them) can be moved, it just takes a while.

A few BW ships as backup may not be a bad idea, though.
>>
>>29638735
No need to train. Your V.I. learn from tactics as you do. And you've been through a lot of battles so far, after absorbing a lot of tactical information from enemy ships and the like.

Though, I suppose you could take a tactical genius and use them for a raw bonus to combat, if you had such a thing. And the ability to absorb it.
>>

>>
>>29638801
What? The point of building on planets or asteroids is that the infrastructure we have to construct is minimal. It costs us very, very, very little.
We don't have to make a huge, hilariously expensive mineral-sucking superstructure and hull (how cheap do you think a kilometer-wide station IS?). We can simply dig a hole and plunk some processors and their support systems into it, no fuzz.

>>29638650
We'd like to simply give them the technology for whatever tier is two steps beyond our own, and sell them (for credits or minerals or heavily-defended-core-world land/asteroid property).

>>29639266
>give them the tech, but for a credit cost. 1 million ok?
Well, sell tech at a cheap price.

I actually want to build them on planets as it's the first step to planet bandwidth and Dyson's Spheres.
>>
>>29639504
1 million is cheap, in my opinion. besides, it's going to come back to them anyway. where else would we spend money?

oh right, mol.

I thought we can buy Minerals and Gas at market price?

>Wonderful Consensus
To wrap things up, you offer the UFW a great deal of defense and weapon technology. Most of it is below your best, but it will certainly help the UGEI in the fight for galactic dominance.
But they will never out step you.
The President, however, is thrilled at this news and you feel like your relations with them couldn't be better right now. They adore you as some sort of hero or savior from beyond the stars. Without you, they would not have survived this long, and indeed, would be long ago erased.

>Rhea
As you make your way back on the Explorer shuttle, you direct your androids to...prepare Rhea. Her limp body leans harshly against them, but they care not, dragging her unconscious form to the shuttle all the way back through Athena.
"Ophion?" Moira's voice rings out, distracting you from your orders.
"Yes? What is it Moira?" You ask to which her expression is clearly worried still, and she looks to Unit 1 as if he was truly where you were, for a moment at least, before glancing up to a security camera.
"I know you did all you did in there with the UFW because you're worried about fighting the UGEI, aren't you, honey?" She asks, her tone soft, to which you simply chuckle.

Rhea is locked into place, her limbs prove strong, but not indestructible. It takes several hours to cut through with your best cutting lasers but you manage. Internal fluids of all manner spray in all directions, as you apply medical spray to keep her alive.

"I fear nothing, Moira. I simply make preparations. The UGEI wish war, and I will defense myself."
"You looked like you were thinking hard there for a while." She points out, frowning. "Are you concentrating on battle plans?"

Rhea's neural jack is familiar to you now, and she hangs by the wire, equipped only with the barest minimum of her limbs anymore. No more weapons, or secrets lie within as far as you can tell. She has yet to awaken, but you sense her fury through the connection.

"Something of the sort." You finish with simply.
"And.. that person you infiltrated you. She's gone now, you said?" She asks out of no where. You simply nod Unit 1's head again.

"GAAAAAAAAAAH!" Rhea's scream slices through the walls of her cell, dampened by the soundproof walls of prison sector itself.

"She is being dealt with." You assure her simply.

speaking of Mol, i bet word is getting back to him about us. hopefully he'll show us more respect next time he talks to us.

Nah, is mostly because actually creating large masses of place where you can place processors will be hilariously much more expensive them hollowing out some massive rock and filling it to the brim with processors.

Got the kilometer-long stations from wanting to get a LOT of Bandwidth. Even Poseidon was in the half-kilometer range and it only gave 6 (then again, only a tiny fraction of it was dedicated to processing).

That said, I do wonder if we need to research to put processors in an asteroid as well or if we have the technology already.

I'm still up for selling the black box to him after we are done with it.
