You turn and dash back for Schatten. The only reason he’s being attacked is because of you. He wanted to follow you to find the female wolf, and you went the wrong way. When he finally broke away, the humans had caught up. The sisters follow behind you, but when you approach the sandy area with the wooden dummies, they lag behind. You burst out on your own, and see the six humans.

“Whitefang! Is Whitefang!” the three humans in the back start shouting as you charge them. They hurriedly grab up their bows and take aim, but all three of them go wide. Fear has returned to their voices. Three of the humans have their long claws in hand and are surrounding Schatten.

The black wolf is stabbed, slashed, bloodied, and nearly dead, but still standing. He growls deeply as you take their attention away. When you leap into the air, all of the humans are watching you and can do nothing. You tackle one to the ground and gouge his face with your fangs as you pin him down. Schatten wastes no time and trips another of them to the ground.

“Is Whitefang the Terrible!” the bowmen shout.

Human blood is back in your mouth.

When the human beneath you fell, he cracked his head on the ground, putting him in a daze. The danger is still on the ground. When you look up though, the four remaining humans are watching you, and calling for help. The nearest is the one still wielding the claw. You snarl and dash over to him. When he stabs at you, your trained body easily dances around the blade, but two arrows find their mark. The sticks rip into your lungs, spilling blood across the ground and in your breath. You cough and spit up some of the blood, but continue the attack.

You tear the human to the ground just as the last one gets to his feet. The bowmen are preparing to hit you again, despite that they might hit their ally.

Then you hear barking. The sisters are standing just on the edge of the clearing, ready to dash back to safety, but they’re drawing attention.

With practiced ease, you slide your saber fangs deep into the human’s throat and end his life. He had been about to stab you with his claw, but his strength fled as quick as his blood. You give him an extra bite just to be sure as you watch the bowmen. They were aiming at you, and one still is but he is uncertain. The other two have taken different aim though.

You snarl, but don’t manage to distract them as they loose their arrows. One flies true as the sisters flee, and catches her in the flank. The two of them flee, trailing blood. You are uncertain where they plan to go, there is no way out.

Behind you, the first human you attacked is already on his feet and attacking you. He curses your name, but misses his attack.

Then you hear the sick sucking and cracking and twisting of sinew that herald’s Schatten’s blood drinking. But when you look, he does not appear stronger for it.

The whispering in your soul catches your attention. Cailan, Champion of the Arena, is approaching.

On one side, you have the three bowmen. They’re scared and weak, but know you are on the brink of death. Before you is the last human claw. But then your nose catches the scent of more humans. And one smells of blood and sweat and fucking. You glance back as three more humans step from the den you passed through to find Schatten. Two are weak like the others you killed. But the one in the center is Cailan. Cailan stands with nothing to protect himself from tooth or cold on his chest, and is marked heavily by scars, but holds two claws in his hands.

You snarl before turning and running. Schatten is already ahead of you. The bowmen loose their arrows, but miss the both of you by large margins. Cailan and his allies do not follow you thankfully. You meet up with the sisters and see that only the one is injured. Thankfully, she’ll live. The four of you take off along the stone wall, searching for your way back out.

The female wolf is impaled on several spears, with her chest cut open and heart torn out.

Anyway I enjoy it, I feel you do gore very well and the world is quite ruthless, as it should be for a wolf. (as we have all been reminded just now)

Your writing things as seen from the perspective of a wolf seems to be good as well. (though honestly I don't have much to compare to on that one)

Also surprised we are fucking alive. Even with our legends, perks, and intelligence (sometimes intelligent anyway) we always manage to walk a razor's edge between survival and death. Our decisions really do affect affect which one we get closer to, though some day the dice will slip (they almost did here.) and we will die horribly.

Next round we must get revenge for Wolfu. I vote hit and run terror, though moving at night is more complicated due to the twisted.

My problem is I struggle very much to differentiate between what I intended to invoke with my writing, and what I actually did. When I start reading what I wrote, I immediately call up exactly what I meant to write and lose the ability to tell if that's what I actually conveyed. I could pull up writing from ten years ago and do the same thing.

All I can manage to edit is foreshadowing of things I didn't know would happen at the time and cleaning up technical aspects.

So I really fail at being my own critic, I just know that I'm pretty bad still. Questing has definitely improved my sense for tension though
