Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Lolis, Killers, Explorers, Robbers.

YOU ARE LOLI,

You have sort of a lead on finding out who set you up, but no real idea how to follow it just yet. You find a pocket on the front of your body armor to stash Alexei's PDA for now, and make a mental note to ask someone how to work it later.

Taking a few extra moments to rifle the stick of charcoal you saved from the Boiler, you find a multipurpose survival knife in his vest. Blackened metal, a serrated blade with a black rubber handle and a few protrusions that look like they could be useful for various things like opening bottles or something.

Sergei looks like he's done looting, too, and is gazing about the area with a bored demeanor. "Aright, ya done? We can 'ead back now?"

[ ]"Yeah, sure." Head back to Skadovsk with him.
[ ]"Yeah, go ahead." Split up, head back to the team.
[ ]"One more thing..." (write in)

"Yeah," you nod to him with a glance. "You can head back. I'm going a different way." He shrugs, turns away and starts trudging back through the march to Skadovsk, leaving you alone. You wait until he's some distance from you before heading off in the direction of your lunch spot, making sure he doesn't spot which way you're going.
The trip is without incident, so it doesn't take you long to get back to the road at the base of the hill leading to the ruined village. As you make your way up the path, you can hear muffled chatter from the inside of the nearest building. You're pretty sure it's Kris talking, what with it being an upbeat feminine voice. As you're about to turn corner of the ruined wooden wall, you idly wonder what it is that they've been talking about while you've been gone.

Your curiosity gets the better of you, and instead of rounding the corner, you back up a bit and move around to the other side of the building, where the brush will cover your approach.

"-and he's all like 'Oh, Kristina, but I couldn't go on without you!' Ahaha! I loved how he was always so melodramatic." The smile on her face is broad, her head tilted slightly back with her eyes slightly glazed over, as if imagining herself in another time, another place. On Vasa's part, her eyes are riveted to Kris, a small but genuine smile on her lips. You'd almost feel guilty if you'd interrupted this moment between them...

Kris continues after a moment's pause, "Pretty sure he never meant it though. I was just the easiest of the girls around him, and he'd say pretty much anything to get in a girl's panties..." her voice takes on only the slightest hint of bitterness, her smile not faltering at all. "I wonder what, or who, he's doing now." Vasa's face has reverted to its usual passive demeanor, as she gently places one hand on Kris' knee, giving a small squeeze.

Kris' thoughts seem to return to the present as she tilts her head back down to look at Vasa. "Hey, how long's it been now? I didn't think she was gonna take this long. Think we should like, go look for her or something?"

Vasa lets out a shallow sigh before checking a watch. "Probably just got caught up. She'll be back. As much as I'd love for h-", she cuts off mid-sentence as her eyes flicker over your hiding spot. Kris doesn't even need further prompting, her entire body visibly tensing up as she waits for Vasa to make a move.

...You'd better let them know it's you before anything escalates. You stand up in the brush and start walking casually towards the house. "I'm back!" you greet cheerfully. All the tension immediately drains from Kris as she slumps back down to her place on the floor. Vasa's mouth twitches a little at your sudden arrival, but otherwise she greets you with a sullen glare, as if annoyed that you'd returned.

Kris, on the other hand, makes a double-take as she sees just what you've equipped yourself with in your absence. "Another dress?? Seriously, where are you getting this stuff?! It took me a month just to find a pair of trousers that fit me!" She exclaims indignantly at you. "And.. two new guns? How'd you get enough money to buy those so quickly?"

Or we could try not to ruin the quest again by pissing everyone off like we did at the start, even if eavesdropping on private conversations isn't *quite* as bad as randomly murdering everyone. We don't want to lose the only allies who have proven moderately trustworthy, in any case.
>>
>>29772706
You open your backpack and rummage about through the chocolate for a moment, trying to pretend like your hand isn't drowning in the stuff. You beam at them, "sorry I took so long, I was doing a quick job for Beard. And then I bought chocolate for us!" Grasping one near the bottom, you pull it out and offer it to them.

"A job? What sort of job?" Kris inquires of you as she takes the bar and delicately starts to take off the wrapping. She breaks it into three bits, handing one to Vasa and one back to you.

"It was really easy actually! All I had to do was let him take some pictures of me."
Vasa's hand freezes, halfway to her mouth, and Kris stares blankly at you. "What?" she deadpans.
"Yeah, he said he can sell the pictures for loads of money to the other guys."

Kris' left eye twitches once as she remains in silence. Vasa manages to recover first, "Eh, maybe you should re-word that, Loli? What is it that he makes you do...?"

"Oh no, it's nothing weird!" you try to reassure them. "He just gives me a whole load of money and some really nice clothes, and then asks me to get changed. Then he takes some pictures while I'm posing. Apparently everyone really likes seeing me like that!"

And something snaps inside Kris.
"That hairy, sick old PERVERT!" She leaps to her feet, but Vasa is faster, wrapping her arms around Kris and lifting her into the air. "I'LL KILL HIM! I'LL BLOODY KILL HIM!" She struggles, flailing her limbs wildly in the air as she tries to break free of Vasa, all the while cursing in very colorful Russian. Many of the profanities go straight past your grasp of Russian slang not as strong as your native Ukrainian tongue.

"Not helping," Vasa grunts at you.

"What's a pervert, anyway?"

"Someone who takes naughty pictures like that! Would you stop chattering and help me already!?"

"But, why is that naughty? It's not like he took them with my clothes OFF or something." As soon as your words sink in, the life drains out of Kris' struggling. Like someone just flicked her off-switch. Vasa waits for a few moments, then slowly places Kris' feet back on the floor. "Here," you pull another bar from your pack, "have another one. Feeling better?" Kris takes it and nods wordlessly.

"Christ," Vasa mutters at you, "say that bit first next time." She sits down, picking her own chocolate off the floor. She brushes a little dust off it, then begins contentedly nibbling on the end.

"So... you look at Kris, "does that mean you don't like my dress...?"

She blinks twice, before focusing on you. "What? No, no, I love your dress! I'd kill to get one like it in this dump!"

"Oh! Well, you don't have to kill for it! Hehe! It seems like Beard wants to keep doing it alot, and he's got someone making more clothes for me! I bet he'd love to make clothes for you two as well!"

The two share a look. Kris genuinely seems to be considering the option, while Vasa has taken a look of utter disgust at the proposal.

"Hmm," you ponder to yourself out loud, "do you think he'd pay more for naughty pictures?"

"Yes," is Vasa's reply, not a moment of hesitation. "But are you really willing to degrade yourself like that?"

Kris doesn't seem to have heard the question, still deep in thought as she is. "It... it would mean revealing ourselves. Like, to the men I mean. No, not like that. Like, they'd know we're here. But... I really want to wear a dress again! No... gotta think of the bigger picture..."

You interrupt her thought train, "well all you'd need to do is get a message to him that we want more dresses. And he makes them to my size! I don't know how it got them right, but... I'm sure you could just tell him yours, right?" Kris pales slightly at that suggestion.

"Well, it's not like you need to decide now," you tell Kris, "I need to go there tomorrow anyway for my next costume! You could come then if you'd like?"

Kris ponders for a moment more, then "yeah. I think that's probably the best idea. I'll think about it properly tonight."

"But uhm, about... some other stuff. I asked the guys at the bar about the attack." Both girls perk up to listen fully to you at this. "Apparently there was this guy who sent a message as I was leaving." You hand the PDA to Kris, who after a moment seems to realize that you don't know how the thing works. She quickly gives you a tutorial run of how to access the messaging system and see the logs. When the message you're after comes up on the screen, she goes into an uneasy silence.

Vasa leans over, trying to see the screen. "What is it, what's up?" Kris hands the PDA to her and she frowns. She then starts skimming through the other logs.
"No other entries for 'K.A.' Feel like I know those initials... Kris?" She looks askance at Kris as the latter jumps at being addressed.

"Huh, what? Oh, I was just thinking. I really don't know what this could mean."

"Isn't it obvious? Those mercs really wanted Loli as soon as possible. Enough that they got an outsider to gather intel for them. Hrm."

After a lengthy silence, it's clear that neither of them have anything more to add, though neither of them are comfortable with this revelation.

You reach over and take the PDA back from Vasa, putting it safely back in your front pocket. "Well, it doesn't matter right? All that stuff's probably over, what with how you guys saved me, right?"

At this, Kris returns to her usual look of unshakable joy, her
"You got that right, and they ain't gonna be trouble for us even if they try again, right Vasa?" She doesn't wait for a response as she continues, "so there's no need whatsoever to be thinking about that stuff. We can just carry on and let the past be the past! That's how I always do it, and it's never failed me!" Vasa nods quietly in agreement.

"More importantly," you turn to Vasa, "I wanna help you look for your dad! If you don't mind... I could like, ask around after him or something for you?"

Vasa fixes you with a shocked expression clear on her features. "But you don't... why?"

"What do you mean, why? You're my friend, right? Friends help friends!"

She snorts, looking down and away from you. "Do what you like." Kris chuckles happily at your little exchange.

"Ah, well, your offer is appreciated, really, Loli! Only, we actually know where he is. Sort of."

"Oh. Well then, why don't you go get him then?" You tilt your head quizzically at her.

"He's, uh. He's further north. Like, way further north. Like, so far north that we'd need to assemble a team of super-hard veteran fighters to get that far north."

Vasa drops in, "except that we don't talk to the other Stalkers. Ever."

Huh. That would be a problem. Kris scratches the back of her neck in embarrassment, "eheheh.... yeah. Um, I didn't want to admit this up front, but we've kind of been watching you for a while. And we were actually really hoping that you'd help us out. We really do need to get up there, and someone like you... The way you fight, and especially with the way you've got your dog always helping you out."

Uh, that's a point... where is Doggy? You're sure he was right behind you when you left Skadovsk, but you haven't seen him since reaching the boiler... Well, whatever. He'll turn up at some point, right?

Kris doesn't notice your concerns as she continues her explanation. "We've actually been lingering around this area for longer than we meant to, hoping that you'd join us. But, we really wanted to get moving soon. 'Cause if you don't want to join us, then we've gotta find someone else that might..."

You've barely finished the thought before you find yourself several feet off the ground, being spun bodily through the air by a squealing Kris. She puts you back on your feet after a few spins, and looks you dead in the eye. "Really, you mean it? You'll come with us?!" You nod again, and she pulls you into a bear hug. "Thank you! Thank you so much! You have no idea what this means for us!" Out of the corner of your vision not currently being filled with flat teenage breast, you see Vasa giving you a... smile? She's actually smiling at you?

A few more moments, and Kris releases you, allowing you to actually breath again. By this point, it's getting pretty late. Kris starts looking around uneasily. "Hey, this village is actually the nest for a chimera, which'll probably be back soon. How about we clear out for now. I know a cave not too far out, we can hide there for the night."

Everyone's in agreement at this, and you all start to grab kit and clear the area.
You're not far outside the village, when your vest pocket starts to vibrate angrily at you. Wha... oh, it's Alexei's PDA. You take it out, and on the screen is a picture of Beard's face, with the words [Incoming Call].

You answer in the affirmative, "how'd you know?"

"Sergei came by earlier, said you had Alexei's PDA now. I had his number, so I tried it hoping I could get you. Anyway, listen. We just had a situation in the bar. Seriously thought we were gonna have to break the no-guns rule. There's a real angry merc looking for you. Calls himself 'Kiyiya'. Kiyaya Aristov."

"Kiyiya? What kind of name is that?" Kris is looking over your shoulder, dropping herself into the conversation.

"Ah, you're with someone? Huh. Yeah, stupid-sounding name, I agree. Means wolf in native american or something. But anyway, listen! He's after you hard. The pistol you sold me earlier apparently belonged to his brother, some bandit called Anton. Custom model, had a nametag and everything. And from what I hear, you didn't leave the previous owner in the... cleanest of states. Didn't even ask for the pistol again. Best stay on your toes for a while, he's probably hunting for you right now. All I could tell him was that last I knew, you were heading for the Boiler. He'll probably start his search there."

You look between the two. "I think we should take them out," you say in no uncertain terms.

"I agree," Vasa chimes, hefting her rifle. "Reach the boiler first, one shot."
A troubled look flashes across Kris' face, "I don't- I'm not sure, we..." she trails off, looking between the two of you, fidgeting on the spot. "I don't think it will work."

"Sure it will," Vasa replies. She leaves no time for Kris to hedge anymore by turning away and setting off at a quick jog in the direction of a hill overlooking the Boiler. You set off directly after her.

"Ah, Vas, no, wai- damnit!" Kris calls meekly after you, before swearing in Russian and falling in behind the two of you.

Following directly in Vasa's footsteps, you make excellent time even across the rough and unsteady ground. Somehow she seems to be able to instinctively place her feet on solid, steady ground with every stride, despite going at an almost full run with all her kit. You're starting to struggle to even just keep up.
Thankfully, the torture doesn't last long as you finally find yourself climbing the hill overlooking the Boiler to your right. Vasa takes a quick glance to her left, at the setting Sun, then looks over her shoulder at you. "Silhouettes," she states the word at you as if it should mean something. She sighs at your blank expression. "Hang right." She sets off again, skirting slightly to the right of the hill crest, keeping the crest between her and the Boiler.

Kris catches up to you quickly on the hill, slapping you casually on the shoulder as she overtakes. Just below the very top of the hill, Vasa suddenly falls over, rolling to a stop. As soon as the foliage around her settles from the disturbance, it's almost like she just went completely invisible. You can barely make her out despite the fact that you're only a few paces behind.

You and Kris take up positions lying either side of her, and look down into the valley below, waiting for something to appear.

It's not more than a few minutes before a single figure in by-now familiar grey urban camouflage appears in the riverbed below, walking steadily from Skadovsk towards the Boiler. He's got a rifle at the ready, moving at a readiness as if expecting to come under attack at any moment.

"Eyes on," you hear Vasa murmur next to you. On the other side of her, Kris grumbles something about being really uncomfortable about this whole thing. "Ready to fire," Vasa nudges Kris.

He's pretty much on top of the Boiler now, just waiting for Vasa to drop him.

"Good for three hundred," Kris mumbles. "Fire when ready." Vasa gently starts squeezing the trigger. And it's not until it's too late that you notice two very key things that are wrong with this plan.
The first,-
*BANG*,
-is the fact that the Boiler is between you and the target. With its heat haze-
*Zi-crack*
-in the way. Vasa's round plinks heavily off the ground well behind the figure.
The second,-
"MOVEMENT!" Kris' panicked cry.
-is that the entire far bank seems to be crawling with little black shapes.
The world is suddenly filled with noise.

Your body had already started reacting before the muzzle flashes had even registered in your conscious mind. You're already upright, one hand grabbing Vasa under the armpit. "RUN!", you scream at the top of your lungs. The two girls get the idea and haul themselves upright as well. It's only a few paces to the top of the hill, and you hurl yourselves over the crest as the torrent of bullets lands, completely tearing up the space you'd been occupying just a heartbeat earlier.

"Bloody planned," Vasa hisses angrily. "Guy was bait just to make me fire."

Kris is heaving in deep breaths next to her, clearly very shaken. The gunfire has already stopped, since you're out of their firing line. They're probably already breaking position to advance up the hill and clear you out. The Sun is just at a level now that it would be directly in their eyes looking up the hill at you. As far as you could tell, there weren't too many of them. They were just very well positioned and had the element of surprise.

get Vasa positioned hidden and away from us and Kris, get us and Kris in solid but obvious cover, then goad the enemies into attacking us, when they commit, have Vasa fire into their flank

once they are distracted by Vasa's enfilading fire, we can counterattack with defilading fire, and catch them in the crossfire and hopefully out in the open

To the lumber mill, the zombies will be a deterrent and a distraction. If they are so hell-bent on killing you, it will let you get a feel for their numbers and experience.
>>
>>29775264
I support this, more or less. We're in cover of the hill, we have a few moments to reposition while they can't see us, so get her hidden. If we can't find cover for ourselves, just run to try to get them to pursue. Pray they didn't notice if there were two or three of us.
>>
>>29775264
Second this plan. Enfilade/defilade sound pretty sophisticated, got me to look them up.
>>
>The hill is the highest and essentially only point of cover for several hundred meters. There are a few small rocks littering the slope, which are barely large enough to cover a person.

>Have Vasa move along the hill crest to one side and hope to go undetected whilst using the rocks as cover for yourself and Kris?
>>

>>
>>29775404
Ya, probably better to just bail then. I don't want to rely on rolls to not die.
>>
>>29775404
If that's the case, they're also going to have a hell of a time circling around us, won't they? We can fight defensively and hold the hill up here, waiting for them to make a move and expose themselves.
>>
>>29775404
>Have Vasa move along the hill crest to one side and hope to go undetected whilst using the rocks as cover for yourself and Kris?
yep, its all around shit terrain, but its the best we've got, and its better than what they've got
>>
>>29775189
Your mind races as you asses your options. You could make a run for it, but the only way off this hill is through the swamp again, which you'd most likely still be stuck in by the time they crest the hill behind you. Other than that, there's some light foliage a little ways along the ridge from you, and a few rocks about your size littering the slope.
There's pretty much only one realistic option if everyone's going to walk away from this.
You tell the other two your plan. "They're gonna be after us. Vasa, see those bushes? Hide in those 'til they get past you, then hit them in the sides and rear. Kris, you and me- KRIS!" You poke her in the ribs to get her attention. She looks at you, face pale. "You and me, behind those rocks. We'll bait them in and Vasa will take them all down, right?"
"...right. Yeah, right. Vasa's always there. Vasa always gets 'em..."

Right. Yes. Okay. Plan's in motion. What could possibly go wrong? Everyone scurries to their location, and it's only a few moments after Vasa disappears once more into the undergrowth that the mercs crest the ridge above you.

The four figures pause for a moment in confusion when they realize that none of their targets are in sight. You pull one of your new pistols from its shoulder holster and pop up from behind your rock. "OI, KIYAYA," you call out, "COME ON, LET ME SEND YOU TO YOUR BROTHER ALREADY!" You squeeze off a few poorly aimed shots up the hill, and the figures scatter into cover while returning your fire. You drop back behind the rock, objective achieved. Kris is up next. As they start to advance down the hill, she pops her rifle up over the rock and fires blindly up the hill. They scatter again, spreading themselves further and focusing more down the slope. You pop up again, and fire off a few shots at the closest man, to keep him head down, before dropping back in. Vasa should have a clear shot right about now...

A distinctive gunshot, and one of the mercs soundlessly collapses to the floor, unmoving.
"SHIT, behind us!" Two of the three remaining spin to face the new source of gunfire. The last is still looking in Vasa's direction.

>>
>>29775804
You decide to give them one chance. "Drop your weapons and we'll let you live!" The man closest to you turns back to look between you and the invisible gunman above him.

"Ah, screw it, I ain't dyin' for no mad dog!" He tosses his gun to the floor. The other two look uneasily between themselves and their surroundings, before also dropping their guns.

You start to break cover to disarm them when "HA, Worthless mutts! Cowards! Like I'd let someone on my team surrender like that!" The voice from the hill above you, a fifth figure standing at the top of the hill, hefting one of those Russian rocket-launcher things over his shoulder. Kris lets out a quiet moan of terror and drops back behind the rock.
Without another word, he flicks the launcher down and fires, its grenade payload firing out the end of the barrel towards you in a blast of smoke. You dive back behind the rock as his squad members scream in terror. The explosion rocks your world, landing just a short way from you, directly in the middle of the three unarmed men.

When the ringing stops, you carefully pop your head back over the rock to see the man reloading the launcher. "I suppose I should thank you, GiltinÄ—, for offing the Captain like you did, letting me take over and all. But then you went and murdered Anton. So, I'll have to see you in Hell, I'm afraid!" He finishes reloading and brings the launcher to bear on you again.

Before he gets the chance to fire on you again, you charge him. It's a hefty distance to cover, but staying where you were is going to get you killed. You fire off a few more rounds with your pistol as you charge, which is at least enough to throw off his aim as he flinches when a round passes just a few inches from his face. It's enough to send the next grenade careening away from you instead of into your face, the muffled explosion throwing up river water behind you. You're finally close enough to get a good shot with your pistol, but as you squeeze once more, you click empty. No matter, you shove it back into its holster as you draw your newest blade and bring home the charge.

You're into your zone, now. Nice and close, just where you're comfortable. You draw your blade across yourself in a sweeping cut aimed to take his neck from below while his hands are still holding the launcher. The moment you're in range, however, he yanks the launcher down in front of himself, deflecting your blow with a jarring shock through your forearm. You spin through the impact, trying to follow up with an elbow into his ribs, only to find that his forearm has beaten you to it. He flicks you away, dropping the launcher and turning to face you as you dive in again, aiming a jab for his groin.

It's a shock you haven't experienced before when the blade is deflected by another blade appearing as if from nowhere into his hand. As your momentum carrier you past him, you feel the blade gently slide itself along the side of your body armor below your armpit. You twist yourself away from it, ensuring it doesn't penetrate any deeper into your armor, while directing a spinning kick to his ribs. He casually catches your leg mid-air, and flips you off your feet.

"Ahahaha! Good! It's been a while since a mutt has been able to last more than a handful of seconds against me! And it's a pup, at that!" He readjusts his stance to better face off against you as you try and pull yourself back to your feet. It's the first real look you've gotten at his face. A young face, made rugged by experience. It's a face that wouldn't be out of place in some prince's mansion somewhere, were it not for the deep scars gouged down the middle of his face, splitting his nose in two. The shock of fiery blonde hair on his head flowing seamlessly into his stubbly beard.
His deep blue eyes somehow insist that he already knows every way you're going to kill him before you've even thought of it.
>>
>>29776601
Looking back down the hill, Kris hasn't moved from her position, cowering behind the rock. Vasa is nowhere to be seen, but that's nothing new. As far as you can tell, this guy is all that's left of the merc team.

>>

We want to know what his deal is, so we stall him a bit asking "What's your deal?" Hopefully somebody does something and shoots him. If not then we quickdraw and do the shooting. This guy's arms are too long for us to win in a knife fight.
>>
>>29776634
You regain your feet and square off against him, readying your knife for another bout. "Why are you after me? For your brother? If you didn't want him to die, you shouldn't have tried to kill me. But all of you seem to have a deathwish. Who are you, anyway?"

A dangerous glint enters his eye at your pointed questions. "You really would like to know, wouldn't you. Ha! Have you tried just asking that bit-" as soon as he's engaged, your free hand flicks to the holster at your thigh, and you pull your second pistol.

It's up to target and you're squeezing the trigger when his huge fist closes over your barrel and yanks it to the side, the bullet grazing his temple and drawing blood as it passes. "KRIS, HELP!" you scream as you jerk your knife forwards in an attempt to side-swipe him, only to find his hand already closing over your wrist. You look up into his face looming over you. You stares at you for a long moment with something resembling... disappointment? in his eyes. Then he headbutts you.

Your vision flickers black, before coming back filled with stars. You tumble back onto the cold, damp earth with a squelch as he stands over you. "Aaah, and now your sniper is finally in position. Play time's over I guess." And he's gone.

When the stars start to clear, you find Vasa leaning over you, asking if you're okay. You nod weakly, and she pulls you back to your feet. Kris seems to have finally broken from her cover as she's sprinting up the hill to you.
"WHERE IS HE!?"
Vasa gestures towards the estuary to the south, where you can see his figure moving at insane speed up the far bank, almost out of your sight.
"VAS, KILL HIM! KILL HIM NOW!" Vasa flinches back from Kris at the outburst, before nodding uncomfortably and once more taking up a prone position, centering her sights on the fleeing figure.

She takes a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself. Which isn't helped by Kris screaming "KILL HIM, GODDAMN IT VAS KILL HIM! HE'S GETTING AWAY!"
And he almost has. Just a few feet from the corner of the road and safety when Vasa finally pulls the trigger. The shot flies true, and you see him do a full front flip, landing on his back in the road.
Kris lets out a cry of joy, and Vasa takes a deep breath, letting it out in a deep sigh. The exultation is short lived, however, when the figure stirs, quickly rising once more. Kris' breath catches in her lungs, as even from this distance you can make out the gesture of him giving you the finger, before hopping around the corner and out of sight.

The party is tense, silent and unmoving for a long few moments, before you turn to Kris. "Alright, so what the Hell was that?"

She looks at you, face a blank mask of confusion. "Eh?"

"What, eh? What the Hell was that reaction? Who is he? How do you know him? Where was my cover fire? And are you gonna be freezing up like that next time I'm about to die!?" Your voice is getting louder with each question, each one visibly hitting Kris like a physical attack. She's now staring at her feet, fists clenched by her side, tears pricking the corners of her eyes as you yell a few inches below her face.

"Hey," Vasa cuts in beside you, "just leave it for a bit, yeah? It's enough of a shock to know he's still alive."

"It... it won't happen again. I swear," Kris mumbles at her feet.

"...Alright, fine. I'll drop it for now but only if you pinky-promise to tell me later." Kris doesn't respond, bar lifting her left hand and extending her pinky finger towards you. You take and hold it for a few seconds, before using it to pull her into a hug, your chin resting atop her flat chest. She sobs once, quietly, into your hair before pushing you off, her wide grin once more fixed to her features as if it had never left.
