You are a young officer, freshly graduated from the academy. Filled with hopes and dreams, you quickly joined the Astravan Navy. awaiting those days of adventuring upon starry seas, dueling space pirates, and serving the Queen of Astrava with cannon-fire and cutlass.

Instead, you find yourself in chains, being dragged to the executioners' block.

“Geo von Hunter, you have been found guilty of abducting the Queen, conspiracy against the government, mutiny against your superior officers, and deserting your post. What say you?”

>Deny the charges, and try to escape.
>Stay silent, and accept your fate.

We shall not breathe a word on this topic ever. Even to our crew. And when we eventually meet the Queen, we'll dance around the topic like mad.

“I didn't do it! Let me GO!” With a thunderous roar, you pull apart the cuffs binding you, and headbutt the executioner, who stumbles backwards, falling off the stage. Darting down the stairs, you bolt for the exit-only to b met by a formation of soldiers with rifles trained on you.

Raising your hands up, you let the soldiers pin your arms behind your back and throw chains on you once more. The speaker looks at you, a sly grin on his face, and speaks.

“By your actions on this stage, the Court finds the perpetrator of these acts guilty of high treason, and sentenced to execution. Begin.”

With a wave of his hand, the crowd begins to yell at you, calling you a traitor to the crown, a bastard, and many other things. As the executioner clambers their way on stage and pushes you you towards the stand, you kneel at the bloodstained block, and lay your head down.

Now who will save the queen?

You think back a few weeks, to how this all began. Having just been accepted into the Navy, you received your orders to your first deployment.
>>
>>29945442

“You are hereby dispatched to the USS Ballista, reporting to Captain Lignoon, to act as the quartermaster and representative of the Queen's government.”

Reading the note aloud, you look up at the ship floating in front of you. Big and bulky, the USS Ballista was nonetheless a beautifully crafted ship. The wooden carvings were lovingly tooled, and the entire hull gleamed with fresh copper plating.

“Like 'er? She's newly commissioned, fresh addition addition to Her Majesty's Navy.” The voice interrupts your thoughts, and you turn around.

A tall, muscular man with a roughened face stands behind you, staring at the ship. Seeing that he has your attention, he continues.

“She's got more cannons than your average frigate, and can outrun an Espadan warship any day o' the week.” the man goes on about various details of the ship, stroking his stubbled chin.

“-and more cabins than crew needed, plus reinforced scatlings-” He looks at you again, and flashes you a pearly smile from underneath his thick mustache.

“Where are me manners? I'm Cap'n Lignoon, Admiral in her Majesty's navy. And you are?”

“Geo von Hunter, ensign, posted to this ship as Quartermaster.” You hand Lignoon the note, who looks over it before shrugging and handing it back.

“Words, orders, took much for me and handle.” He says, waving his hand dismissively. “What I need to know is if I can trust you not to be so hard on the crew coming with us. Strict rules may be fine at the academy, but on the sea, things be a bit different. What do ya say?” he says, a grin on his face.

He nods. “I can see I've got a good quartermaster on my hands, Mister Hunter. I trust I can hold you accountable for your actions?”

Before you can respond, a man calls for Lignoon's attention, and he walks off to talk with the man. Turning back to the ship, you stare at it once more.

Until you receive your next orders, this is home. Grabbing your bag, you walk up the gangplank, and step onto the ship. On the deck, you can see a few crew members tying ropes and check the sails, but on the whole, the deck is rather empty.

“Geo!” A voice rings out, and you turn around. On top of the gangplank, you see a familiar girl, her blond hair neatly tied back into a pony tail.

“Alantra! How nice to see y-” Before you can finish greeting her, she grabs you in a great big hug.

“I'm so happy! We're going to be working together again, just like in the academy!” You try to point out that the Academy wasn't that far away, but her tight embrace gives you little air to breathe.

A crash interrupts your meeting, however, and the two of you quickly part to see what it was. Looking over the railing, you see two people amidst a mess of dropped objects. One seems to be an Espadan girl with green hair apologizing profusely, and the other is a person so covered in bandages you have no clues as to their person. Whoever they are, they simply stare at the Espadan for a long moment, before moving to pick up their items. The Espadan, after hesitating, does the same for her possessions, and you:

“O-oh. I'm s-sorry to disturb you! It was clumsy of me, you don't need to-”

Your only response is to place the tools you're holding into the chest she is carrying.

“I'm Geo von Hunter, Quartermaster. And you are?” She stares at you a bit, then bows.

'I am Verdere Wick, carpent-” the tools spill out of the chest once more because of her bow, and the two of you proceed to pick them up once more.

“Ah, quartermaster! Just who I was looking for.” Turning around at the sound of Lignoon's voice, you see him standing behind you, papers in his hand.

“We're going to be setting off soon,, so if you'd be so kind as to call the crew onto the topdeck, as I'd like a few words with them.”

throwing him a sharp salute and a “Yes, Sir!” you turn away and head to the crew quarters, which filled while you were talking. Opening up the door, you see the men lazing about discussing something or the other in small murmurs. However, once they notice your presence, they immediately clam up.:

“Please, onto the deck. Captain's orders. He wants to speak with us all.”

The crew stares at you, but one by one, they get up and move past you, uttering “yes, sir.” as they pass.

As the men slowly walk by, you feel a bit uneasy. You can't quite name it, but it feels like the crew is looking down upon you. You shake your head at the thought, and turn to leave, but something catches your eye.

In the back of the room, a grizzled man with salt and pepper hair sits, peeling a potato. You turn to him and speak firmly.

“Did you not hear me, sailor? Topdeck. The captain wishes to speak with us.”

The man stops his peeling, and stares at you. His eyes betray nothing but experience, but nonetheless, a bit of fear grabs your throat. Wordlessly, he sets down the potato, and walks past you.

As he passes you by, you wait for any acknowledgement.

None. Grabbing him by the shoulder, you swiftly spin him around.
“I am your quartermaster, and you will acknowledge me as such. I want to hear sir, or yes sir, when I issue you an order. Am I clear.”

the man looks at you.

“Perfectly....sir.” grabbing your hand, he removes it from his shoulder with a strong grip, and heads topdeck.

You follow.

This is a strange crew indeed. Walking to the top of the stairs, you see the captain talking to the crew.

“-With that in mind, I want us to work together-Ah, quartermaster!” Lignoon calls to you. “I was just telling these men what an honor it is to serve with them. Have you anything to say?”

You turn to the crew who stare at you with a straight face, attempting to hide any emotion from showing.

You:

The captain clears his throat, interrupting you, and everyone looks at him.
“-expects you all to do your job, like usual. Now that we're all here, It's time to tell you what we're here for. Our job, on the USS Ballista...is to escort Queen Adelida to the Trifecta meeting between her and the Epsadan and Coutlan governments. We are to meet up with the Royal Galleon within the week, and escort the ship to the Maritime Academy. I expect we'll have more than a few troublesome rebel come our way, so I want you to keep a sharp eye out. Now, let us head off!”

He looks at you, and you begin rattling off orders.

“All crew on deck, and unfurl those sails! We must meet the Queen, posthaste!”

On your words and the captains, the crew proceeds with their tasks, and soon, you find yourself sailing out of the harbor and into the starry sea. Despite the ill intentions you felt before, the crew runs smoothly enough throughout the day, and soon, night falls with little incident. Inside the mess, you watch as the grizzled man you saw before, simply called Kettle, work the ship's mess hall, stirring the soup with a ladle.

“Line up, nice and easy. Don't get greedy now, else I'll tan you and throw you into the stew meself.” as the line progresses, you find yourself near the end. Upon seeing you, Kettle reached off to the side and grabs a plate that holds a fine manta-cow stake.

Stepping inside, you are greeted by an opulent room. A small chandelier lights the room, revealing fine tapestries, map, and more than a few weapons on the wall.

Lignoon sits in the middle of the room, talking with one of the sailors.

“Come in, Geo. I was just talking with this fine sailor about our trip. Is that a manta-cow steak? By all means, set it on the table.” As you follow his orders, Lignoon waves the sailor away.

“So how fares the effort, quartermaster?” Lignoon says, digging into the steak.

“Well enough, sir. Crew was a bit slow in the morning, but responded well enough when we were on the sea. I'm a bit worried about the cook, though.”

“Kettle? He's a cook, Quartermaster, not the gunner or the helmsman.” Lignoon sets his fork down.

“The crew is probably discontent with obeying a quartermaster younger than themselves, is all. Now go back, and enjoy a meal with your new comrades. Make friends. Let them get a little rowdy.”

He waves you away.

“You're dismissed, quartermaster Geo.”

With sharp salute, you exit the office and head back to the mess hall. However, upon hearing the sounds of a commotion, you:

Suddenly, you hear the bell of the watchman.

'Storm ahead, approaching from the starboard side! All hands on deck!” Immediately, the crew drops their utensils, and dashes out of the mess hall.

The sailor looks at Nast, who meets his glare with one equal. “We'll resolve this later.” Nast nods, and the man rushes out of the entrance. Alantra and Verdere do likewise, and soon, you find only yourself and Kettle in the room.

Sensing the urgency of the situation, the crew quickly jumps into action, and soon, sails are filled with wind, hurling the ship forward. The next several hours are long and exhausting as you seek to maneuver your way away from the storm. Finally, however, one last gushes pushes you out of the way, and with that, you escape the storm, unscathed.

As the crew breathes a sigh of relief, one of the watchmen calls out.

“I see it! Jaggel Harbour!” The crew looks up, and out in the distance, you can see your destination. A floating city hub, hundreds of ships leave and enter. As you draw closer, you can see the colours of all nations, their flags waving brightly in the wind. Soon, your ship docks, and sailors hop off to tie down the ship.

“I'm sorry, captain, but I need to talk with the crew and set them straight.”

“I can see this crew is not to your liking, Quartermaster Geo.” Lignoon sighs. “But very well. Talk to them if you wish, and we shall discuss your actions later.” he waves you off, and you set off in search of the crew.

Talking with various dockhands, you easily track them down to a nearby tavern. Inside you find the crew, drinking up a storm and telling tales. That one troublemaking sailor is here, but Nast is nowhere to be seen.

You walk up to him. “Where's Nast?”

'How should I know? Jus' leave us in peace, quartermaster.” He slurs.

“Now hold on. I need to talk with you, and not just about Nast.”

“'Bout what?” He yells. “We don't like you, or your ilk. Jus' shove off and leve us honest sailors in peace! We can operate fine without ou damn kids getting underfoot!”

His yelling silences the tavern, and you can feel the eyes of the crew upon you.

Your words are harsh and stern, and they quiet the man. You turn around, and look at the crew.

“The same goes for the rest of you. I am your quartermaster, so until I am dead or transferred, you will treat me as such. Am I clear?”

Silence greets you, and you walk out of the building in disgust. A sorry crew this is. Are they even Royal Navy?
You attempt to find Alantra.

She finds you. A flying tackle knocks you off your feet, and you see Alantra with the brightest grin on her face. Behind her, you can see Verdere and Nast, standing awkwardly.

“They're here!”

'Who?”

“Serseri and Seigrid!”

At the mention of your two old friends from the academy, your ears perk up.

“What? Here?”

Alantra nods, and you pull yourself off the ground.

“Well, let's go meet them!”

“I saw them with the Queen's Retinue! They were headed towards our ship!”
With those words, the two of you take off. Arriving at your ship, you stand by the railing and ready yourself.

It's true. Down the dock, you see a massive movement of troops surrounding a carriage. Inside, you can see the young queen. And opposite of her sit Seigrid and Serseri. You wave energetically, and yell.

“Very well then. Thank you for all your service, Quartermaster Geo. If you would sign these forms?” He holds out a few papers, and you quickly sign them all, eager to be released from your duties. As you sit there, waiting for that moment, your mind is flooded with memories of your academy days.

“Step forward, Ensign Geo von Hunter.”

What? A look around, and it seems the Queen has arrived already. Crew fills the deck, arms thrown in a salute, and the Queen stands tall, her icy glare piercing yours. Captain Lignoon is staring at you as well, his fingers beckoning you forward.

You must have been daydreaming. Quickly, you step forward and bow.

“Queen Adelida, this is Ensign Geo von Hunter. He has shown remarkable skill and cunning, a brave soul and mind-”

You sit there, with your head bowed, as Captain Lignoon talks about your merits. Risking a glance, your peer at Seigrid and Serseri, who stand behind the Queen. Meeting your eyes, they give you a friendly smile and a small wave.

“-and that is why I recommend him to replace the deceased captain of the Royal Galleon, at least, for this voyage.”

What? You can't be hearing that right. You look at Lignoon, who has a small smile on his face. He winks at you, and turns back to the queen.
“Would you agree, your majesty?”

She walks past him, and instead stares t you, and her eyes pierce your soul. Yet....behind them, you see a sort of fragility.

Then it disappears.

“I do. Ensign Hunter, you are hereby assigned to the Royal Galleon as its captain.” She pauses, and studies your face once more.

“Do not disappoint me.”

With that, she turns away and swiftly departs from the boat. Captain Lignoon starts talking to the crew.

“Get ready for a voyage. Alantra, Verdere, join Captain Hunter in repairing the Royal Galleon and stay with him for the remainder of the trip. Captain Hunter, you're dismissed.”

“Why did you do that, Captain Lignoon?”

He looks at you, and flashes that all-too-common grin of his.

“Because If I told you that the Royal galleon lost a captain, you likely would have pushed me there and taken control of this ship, saying something about how the Queen's ship is more important or the like. Sure, there's a difference.” He waves his hand at the ship.

“The Royal Galleon carries the most important people, and is crewed by the best men. And yet, such a ship would be far easier to control that the poor old USS Ballista, run by crusty seadogs and scallywags. Let's face it, Captain Hunter. You're better suited with people who think like you, not sailors who remember wars of years past, and want nothing to do with their long-time enemies.”

“Fair enough, Captain Lignoon, but what about Nast? I can't leave him here, not with all these sailors who hate him.”

He shrugs.

“the sailors have a ringleader, no? I'll send him onto your ship, but we need a doctor. After all, we're expected to take the brunt of any battle.”

Lignoon is right. His ship cannot be without a doctor. And yet:

“Good luck.”

Wordlessly, he stands there, frozen, until he quickly grabs your hand. It has a soft, gentle touch. And he shakes your hand quickly before walking away. You notice he seems to be shaking his hand, as if it was cramping.

Making your way across the docks, tou step onto the Royal galleon, and immediately, you feel a huge contrast between ships. Compared to the USS Ballista, the ship is smaller, and yet, the wood gleams with a hidden intensity. The crew works in a neat and ordered fashion, and the second your feet hit the deck a shout goes up of “Captain on Deck!” It is repeated by the soldiers, who all throw you a sharp salute. Two familiar figures dressed in Astravan uniforms come up.

“Master Gunner Seigrid and Quartermaster Serseri reporting in, sir!”

You look at them, and try to hide the grin on your face.

“I don't think you two are Astravans. How did you get these positions?”

Seigrid throws a sharp salute. “'International Relations,' as what the Queen called it. Said that putting us foreigners in charge would ease tensions when we arrived at the Academy.”

“It helped we knew you, Geo. It seems the queen knows you already.” Serseri quips.

The walls have intricate scroll-work and wood paneling, and an ornate four-post bed sits in the corner. Small cabinets and dressers dot the room, and in the center, a star-map of the known world hangs. Below it, you see Queen Adelida flipping through documents.

“Captain Hunter. I wished to speak with with you.”

“Yes, your Majesty?”
“I've been looking over your history at the academy. Perfect marks, excellent leadership, a strong personality and just a smidge of theatricality.” She sets down the papers, and looks you straight in the eyes.

“Good. Now, I should tell you what this trifecta meeting is about.” Queen Adelida says, getting up from her chair.

“Every couple of years, the leaders from each of the nations arrive, in order to discuss some sort of peace to be made. We make efforts to pretend that we are friendly, but usually, no progress is made.”

She walks to the window, staring at the city, and speaks.

“But you have changed all that. Your actions at the Academy have not gone unnoticed. To unite people from all nations and sweep the academy final against stronger odds is almost unheard of. And yet, both Espadans and Coutlans are willing to believe in you. It seems those friends you made were in high places. An Espadan prince and the leader of a Coutlan tribe. Who would have guessed?”

She turns to you.

“This time, the Trifecta meets in earnest. They aim to place you as captain of a new flagship called the Trinity, and embark on some grand adventure or the other, to the Forgotten Sector. To that place where planets lie undiscovered, where grand battles where once fought, and where all sorts of scum are said to hide. What do you think?”

“What do you think?”

She looks at you with calculating, cold eyes. “I believe if this is played right, all of us may unite underneath one banner. Whose, banner, however I cannot say. I look for the good of our people first, Geo, so I will put you forward as well. However, I beseech you to be wary, and make sure that you do not place the Astravans in danger. Just....remember where your loyalties lie.”

She sits down in her chair, and you see a hint of exhaustion, but it quickly disappears.

“That is all. You are dismissed.”

With those words, you leave. Talking to the crew, it seems most of the repairs are taken care of. As you walk down in the decks, you see Verdere patching a hole.

“Do you need any help?”

“I-oh!” Startling her, you watch as she accidentally bumps her head against a plank nearby.

Picking up the lid, you sweep most of the nails back into the barrel, and pick up the few that remain. As Verdere moves on to sawing wood, you hold it down, despite her feeble protests otherwise. Slowly but surely, the two of you progress through the job.

Suddenly, she speaks.

“D-Do you know the Queen is our age?”

“What?”

“Yeah, she's exceptionally young. She had to take over running the entire nation when she was younger, because of some Espadan raid.”

You recall hearing something along those lines, but it must have faded from your memories.

Suddenly, Verdere speaks again. “T-thanks for all your help.”

“No problem, you're really good at this.”

“Well, it's probably the only thing I'm good at.”

“What? No way.” You reply jokingly, looking over.

She's not joking.
>>
>>29950716

Verdere clams up for a bit, but slowly, the story comes out. She came from a family of shipmakers, so, since she was young, she would often help. Unfortunately, because she was the youngest, apprenticeships passed her over in favor of older siblings and skilled journeymen. With nothing left to do but help build, it became the only thing she was good at.

“I was working on a ship at the Academy one day, and noticed another next to it in bad condition. I had lumber left over, so I'd figure I'd just do a bit of patching up. One thing led to another, and I worked on it all night, fixing it up. When the owner came in the morning, I thought he would yell at me, but instead, he shook my hand, and asked if I wanted to join the Royal Navy. I leaped at the chance to leave my old life behind, and now here I am.”

“So this is your first posting?”

She blushes. “Well, I had a few before, but they didn't work out, because I'd get so nervous, and be unable to complete the job and-”

“Well, don't look, but you're done now.”

She turns, and looks at the hole she was working on. Indeed it was patched. It seems as long as she doesn't focus to hard on the work or others around her, she'll be fine.

She smiles. “Guess the ship is in working condition now!”

“You'll do fine. Just don't be so nervous. What was the ship you worked on, by the way?”

“The Trinity.”

You ponder this, but she rushes away before you can respond, talking about checking some area or another. Over the next few days, our life is filled, checking provisions, moving the wounded off.

Then, one day. a deckhand runs up to you.

“Sir, sails are ready, and all provisions are loaded. The Royal Galleon is ready to sail.”

Well, that's it. Preparations are done, and all that's left is your command.

Your very first command, as an Ensign of the Royal Navy. Standing beside the helm, where Alantra grips the wheel, you look to Serseri standing beside you, and know that Seigrid is down by the cannons.

The crew is back together.

“All hands, cast off!” You voice soars across the deck, and the crew quickly jump to. Ropes are pulled, sails are hoisted, and beneath your feet, you can feel the deck move. As a deck hand signals the USS Ballista, the ship takes of as well, and together, you depart for the Academy. Days pass by, and the Royal Galleon is a welcome change from the hectic USS Ballista. The crew is nicer, more responsive, and doesn't pin people to the walls. Talking with Serseri and Seigrid, you find that their story matches up with Queen Adelida's. They, too, were told of the Forgotten Sector and uniting the nations, and were handed to her as a gesture of goodwill.

Before you can talk more, however, you hear the bell of the watchman.

“Pirates! Pirates on the Keel-port side!”

Rushing out of the mess, you look down and to the left. Indeed you can see a ship flying a flag not belonging to any nation, cannons already firing at your escort.

You quickly order all hands on deck, and take your post.

“Flee. We have the Queen aboard, and her safety is our priority.”

“But sir-”

“No buts. We have a job to do, and a queen to save. No heroics.”

“Very well, sir.” The man's eyes are pained, but he will obey you loyally. As he relays orders, the sails fill with wind, and you are quickly whisked off into the distance, leaving the USS Ballista behind.

The journey is uneventful, by tension fill the air as the crew waits for news of its fellows.

Suddenly, you see a ship in the distance.

It's the Ballista. As the crew jumps up with joy, you watch their response as a watchman signals them.

“it is indeed them, sir. They responded to all messages with proper answer and timing. It seems they have the pirates in tow as well, safely locked in the brig. Hold on-”

As flags wave once more you read the message in them.

“It seems-”

“That Captain Lignoon wishes to meet with me.”

“If you hear shots fired, don't turn. Don't want for me. Flee. As fast as you can.”

Before she can reply, you add “That's an order.”

You descend to the lower decks of the ship, and grab a longboat and pistol. Folding out the sail, you take the boat down and out to meet Captain Lignoon. As you wait between ships, making your intentions clear, You watch as Captain Lignoon pulls out in a longboat as well.

You decide to speak first, in order to break the tension.

“I'm sorry we had to flee, Lignoon, but it was orders from the Queen. Can we offer you any supplies or assistance?”

Lignoon laughs. “None, but your complete surrender.”

Lignoon squats, getting close to you.

“Did you really think I wanted you to be captain, out of some good in my heart? That I wanted this journey to succeed?”

He spits.

“I told you before. We are a group of old sailors. We have seen the wars that have ruined our planets, killed our families. And now, the Queen wants to forgive them?”

You suddenly collapse, and he looks at you.

You drop the captain, and his head collides with the floor of the boat.

“I surrender.”

With those words, you place your hands on your head. The pirates quickly some in and bind your arms and feet, tying them so tight you feel the circulation cut off. Hauling you onto the ship, you see your friends.

“I thought I told you all to flee.”

Alantra looks at you, tears in her eyes. “We did. We didn't want to, but we did. Several of the crew had to restrain Verdere when she knew what we were going to do.”

Seigrid nods. “It was painful, but we knew you wouldn't any other way...but....”

“The Queen ordered us to turn back.” Serseri says, and you stare at her blankly. The queen. Why? After that 'no heroics' talk, why would she do that?

“I told them to, because my plan cannot work without you.” Adelida interrupts. “You must be alive, and you must become captain.”

Her cold calculating glare betrays nothing, but before you can inquire further, the pirates roughly haul you away, and throw you into an empty brig.

There, you sit. And wait. How will you get out now?

That's not going to work. You look at Nast.

“Do you have any needles and thread?”

Upon asking for needles and thread, Nast's eyes light up. Unwrapping part of the bandage on his hands, he makes gestures akin to spelling out letters. So we should strive to free our friends at least so that we can get rescued from the block.

We are aboard Ballista now? How many pirates are there? How many loyal crewmembers are alive? There could be spies among those too.. Only ones we know we can count on are presumably our buddies from academy and maybe the engineer.

You write down your desire for more info, and Nast turns to leave. However before he does so, he scribbles something once.

THANK YOU FOR VOICE

As you read the message, Nast places his hand upon yours, and stares into your eyes.

Then the guards open up the door, and Nast quickly leaves, but the feeling Nast leaves behind, that there's something he's not telling you, remains.

You shrug, and lean back in your cell.

After a few days, here is what you find out.

Your cell has five guards outside, with three rifles on the door at all times.

So does the cell containing your friends.

The Queen, however, has 9 or 10 guards.

All the loyalist troops have been caught and put in a cell, with the Queen's physician locked inside to treat them. He can occasionally request supplies, though it's up to the Captain to decide. They have all been thrown in the larder, with a sturdy bolt on the door.
>>
>>29953906
The Royal Galleon is running on a skeleton crew, with the majority of troops on the Ballista and the pirate ship. The captain spends his days in his quarters, tending to his own wounds.

The only wild card is Kettle. Even though the pirates have come out, no one treats him with any familiarity, and they simply ignore him, and Kettle continues to cook, seemingly ignoring the screams and yells from the larder. Nast's attempts to talk with him are only met with grunts.

Finally, Nast is limited to delivering food, and tending the occasional wounded pirate. He has been threatening repeatedly not to let anyone die, or there will be hell to pay.

Weapons are locked up tight, and guards only switch once both parties are present.

You are headed towards the Academy, though Lignoon aims to deliver you to a judge he knows, where you will be executed. Before you go, however, the ships will split up, hiding in the vastness of the sea.

After looking at the stars and calculating time and location, you realize you only have a few days left before you arrive. You need to move, now.

Troops are fleeing from the mess hall, and though the guards fire into the crowd, you watch as they overpower the troops on the Royal Galleon. You begin to cheer, but as you do so, two guards enter, rifles trained on you. Checking that your shackles are secured, they tug you along, rifles trained on your head. They shove you outside.

“One move on us or the Queen's room, and the other gets it!” They yell at the group. Looking around, you see the Queen in the same situation, a rifle trained on her head. The loyalist troops pause, and look at you for direction.

Flee/Charge: Tie, Result 1
The men look at their captain, who is forced to kneel. In this sorrowful moment, a rainstorm springs up. He faces death, and yet, he does not not ask for a savior, nor for his men to throw their lives away to get the Queen. He, looks out for them. Keeping what little courage he has in the face of a mighty storm.

“Flee.”

Yet on those words, they think nothing of themselves, only to save the two who led them. One of the men steps forward.

A shot rings out, and the Queen screams in agony. The captain looks upon them once more, a savage fire in his eyes, a glare that burns despite the rain around them.

“Flee, you fools!”

On those words, they retreat, trusting in his decision. They backpedal, making these pirates pay dearly for their crimes, knowing this will be just a taste of the retribution these men have yet receive. Rifle and pistol fire rings out, and yet, the pirate captain refuses to give chase.

You watch as the men flee, shooting their foes, and picking up fallen comrades. Soon none are left, save for you and the pirates. As the Royal Galleon sails away, you catch the sight of your friends faces, for what may be the last time.

Their faces are burned into your mind.

You hear Lignoon's voice.

“Give chase. Spare no quarter.”
>>
>>29954982
He picks you up, and carelessly drops you by the queen. Looking at her, you see her gasping for breath trying to maintain composure, despite the water hitting her wound.

“Look what you have wrought. Unless she is attended to soon, she will die. And the only 'doctor' on board, is this hideous creature!”

Pointing towards the deck stairs, several men drag out a person covered in rough stitches and scabs., whose skin is horribly discoloured. Dragging it up, they force its face to be exposed.

It's Nast.

“So, whoever's plan this was, please, pay with your life. Or maybe I should take the good doctor's instead.”

He draws a pistol, and you move to take credit.

However, Adelida's voice stops you.
“It was mine.” He turns to Adelida, and scowls. You look at her with disbelief.

Lignoon simply scowls.

'you're half-dead already. I think I'll just....”

WHAM. His fist hits you full force in the face, and in your bound state, you cannot do a thing as he wails away at your body, beating you within an inch of your life. It seems to stretch for an eternity, yet every time the pain threatens to knock you out, a fresh wave of pain sets your flesh on fire once more. You spit out blood, gasp for a breath, and finally, he picks you up.

You see nothing but pure hatred in his eyes. Then he throws you away.

For an instant you fly.

Then, your body hits the floor.

And nothing.

Slowly you stir to consciousness.

You can feel hands rubbing your wounds, poking and prodding it, applying pressure and wrapping it. You open your eyes and see a hideous creature inspecting your body. You:

>Push it away.

You recognize the creature. It's Nast. You move to speak, but he presses a finger against your lips. He turns to you, shifting his hair, and what you see surprises you.

A beautiful face stares at you, or rather, half a face. It takes you a moment, but as you stare, deep into those eyes, you realize, this is Nast.

And Nast is a girl.

Slowly but surely, she eases the pain in your body. Her fingers prod and poke, applying creams and and ointments. The experience is silent, yet, as she wraps her arms around your body, gently squeezing and holding, a feeling of gratitude is somehow conveyed. Finally at the last push, she simply wraps her arms around your chest and rests her head against your back. You:

>ask her why she took the blame
She looks away, and for an instant, her eyes sharpen. But the cold gaze returns when she looks upon you once more.

'Because.....I need you.” Her words take you back, but her gaze hardens. “I need you to become that captain for me, Ensign Hunter. Do not presume anything more or less.

You look away, shamefully, and she goes on. “Like I said. With you in control of that ship, I know that the Astravan people will be represented, and that-”

She goes on detailing your loyalty, but suddenly a coughing fit overtakes her. Your grab ahold of her as these coughs wrack her body, and Nast offers her medicine, but she pushes it away, and Nast goes back to search through medicine cabinets.

“I need you, because...you are strong...Geo.” The Queen says, coughing. “Because you are idealistic....and....because..........I.....................” She trails off, and you noticed her eye slowly close. Panicking, you feel for a pulse. It's faint, but there.

“She's sleeping.” You say to Nast, and gently set the queen on her bed.

She, nods, checks your temperature, and goes to a chair, where she falls asleep.

Only you remain awake, and sit in your bed, staring at the ceiling. With the guards outside, there's nothing you can do.

Pretending to be asleep, you hear Lignoon speak softly.

“Why did you have survive?” He pauses, and steps around the room. “If only you had died, with your parents, this would have so much simpler. I would have gotten the throne, and led our Nation the way I wanted.”

He walks around a bit more, and stands next to Adelida's bed.

“Instead, you push for peace, while the two other sides push for war. As the weakest nation, you refused to give in...And yet we shall be worse for it. Our people conquered and divided, all because you hoped for a hero to unite the lands.”

“The only heroes are the ones history vindicates. I will conquer the others, and unify the world. But I will do it under our flag.”

With that, he walks out, and you consider his words.

Yet not long after, you fall asleep.

“He's a distant uncle.” She mutters.

You hesitate, and tell her what you overheard last night.

She sighs, and leans back.

“It's true. Were it not for me, he would have been the next leader of our nation. Unfortunately, his hunger for war is as great as his wrath. Were he in charge, we would be at war already, using every trick in the book. He would continue to make others suffer, all in the name of peace. I must stop him, and men like him. “Yes. You are my tool, in this war, my sword, my ship. And you are mine. Never forget that.” She says, tapping your chest for emphasis. You look her deep in the eyes.

As you process those words, the door is suddenly kicked open.

“We're here, Geo von Hunter. And court is awaiting.” Soldiers enter in, chains are slapped upon you, and a bag over your head. You are shoved into a carriage, and a long and bumpy path takes you through the city. Then, you are pulled out, and you can hear the sounds of doors opening and closing around you. Put into a seat, the bag is ripped off your head, and you find yourself standing before a judge. Crowds of people are in the room, screaming out expletives and insults. “Tell me, why are you in this court?”

You finish your statement, and there is a moment of silence. The the crowd roars at you, demanding for your head, for you to be eaten by crows, and a variety of other unpleasant things.

“And the evidence against him?” the judge ask, and the door swings open.
“I have it.” Lignoon states, and walks through the courtroom, throwing papers to the crowd. “Letters with his signature, conspiring with pirates, reports from my crew detailing his treasonous words, and the words of I, an Admiral of Astrava, and loyal servant to the Queen. I myself saw this man steal the queen from the sinking royal galleon which he himself sabotaged, whisking her away to a ship of pirates, and only through my great efforts, did I capture him. But alas, the rest of his crew escaped with the Queen. So, with this in mind, this man-” He points at you.

“Is guilty of treason against the crown.” the crowd is in an uproar, screaming, yelling. The judge simply looks at them and smiles.

“Well, then. I, a judge, and representative of the Queen in these affairs, to hereby find Geo von Hunter of Astrava guilty of abducting the Queen, conspiracy against the government, mutiny against your superior officers, and deserting your post.” He pounds his gavel, and the crowd yells and riots, lunging for you. Of course not. She was going to make me the head of a diplomatic expedition, a vessel with high-ranking members of all three nations and me as the captain. It would be the first, great step to ending the war. Lignoon wouldn't have that. Too much hate for the other nations. Until the execution.
