IIRC you can't cast Sanctuary on yourself. Probably for mantra-y self-sacrifice reasons.

That said, given what we know about the effects of Sanctuary, it doesn't actually seem terribly useful against thinking targets if you are hoping to protect multiple individuals with it. If they want to harm anyone else aside from the target, the spell will let them in just fine.

It worked when Volker used it because Adrien was the only person left for it to protect, it worked when we were trying to protect against the Lindwurm (and incidental bear) because they were indiscriminate with who they were going to attack, and thus would've been stopped by it regardless, and it works for us to use to protect Marie because she's usually the only person we'd need to protect with it.

If the kidnappers know what they're doing, they could very well be able to get in by focusing intently on attacking people other than the Sanctuary's target, and then once they're past the barrier and attacking that person, switch to targets of opportunity indiscriminately.

We don't KNOW that it's possible to do this, because Sanctuary mechanics are sort of esoteric, but still.

It's not as much about them leaving to cause collateral damage, it's about that even if we cast Sanctuary on one of Luciana or Emilio (which are the assassin/kidnappers' targets), it's possible that due to the way the spell works, they could just decide to write off the Sanctuaried royal and go after the other one exclusively, which would end up letting them in and giving them access to both regardless.

We were given the Sanctuary scroll specifically to protect Marianne, and we know it works flawlessly to protect one person. If we only had one person we needed to protect, throwing down the scroll is perfectly reasonable.

We know we're fine with killing anyone who wants to do bad things to the people we care about. But we also know that's kind of a fucked up way to be. It doesn't mean we won't do it if we have to, but it probably DOES mean that we don't want other people to have to do it either.

It's a good thing that she defended herself. From a combat perspective. It's a good thing part of her feels bad about it afterward. From a human perspective.

Both perspectives are a good thing to have, and even if it's suboptimal right now, it's not better for her in the long run if we try and rob her of the latter.

Dripping lava onto the floor as it goes, Luciana's creation burns a hole right through through one assassin and then moves towards the second of the men who Takamaru was fighting.

She no longer has the element of surprise so the assassin tries to evade its oncoming assault... but Takamaru grabs onto his arm and tosses him over his arm and right into the molten dragon.

With a splash, it loses its consistency just as the assassin falls into it, covering him in lava and- oh god, that smell. It's the worst thing you've ever smelled in your entire life.

Screaming bloody murder as the molten rock eats into his body, the assassin reaches towards his comrades... but they back away from him for fear of sharing the same fate, instead resuming their assault on Karel.

If we can help Karel without leaving Marianne too exposed I'm okay with assisting him/her. We need to get the non-combatants (Emilio, Marianne) behind us and moving towards the door or exit. Then one of the bodyguards needs to be the first one through the exit as we make our way towards our friends, King Thierri, etc.
