Your name is Volkov Marulovich, and you are a strapping young man of 18. You have been under the tutelage of your master for 4 years now. You are a bone mage in training and have specialized in the art of crafting and using artifacts.

You currently have:

-1 iron boneburst pistol (11 lead balls and 4 marrow pellets)

-1 steel pulse dagger

-1 small spell focus pendant
>>
Your master's expression softens a bit.

“Volkov, I see you've made it here safely. I was just killing some time while I was waiting for you to show up.”

“And what looks like a sizable portion of Danmorm's population.”

“They started it. I was just trying to charter a vessel back to Xel'Karth when this little revolution kicked off. Claimed they were sick of the Association's influence on the crown that was governing their lives.”

That would explain the severe anti-mage sentiments that you experienced yesterday, especially if the entire region is in on the revolution.

“So what should we do, master?”

“Well, the way I see it, we have two options right now. We could either liberate the city from the revolutionary forces, or we could just commandeer a ship and press a bunch of sailors into service.”

In the short term, it would most likely be easier to just take a ship and sail away, but leaving the city as it is now could cause long term stability issues in the region. On the other hand, putting a stop to this revolution in its infancy would require fighting a decent portion of the revolutionary forces, but would at least keep things calm in the long term.

While you could very well just steal a ship and sail off, you feel that it would probably be better if you put a stop to this revolution before things get out of hand any further.

“I think it would be better if we end this before it gets a real chance to gain momentum.”

“I was hoping you would say that, Volk. Alright, so the best way to do this would be to find out who the man in charge is here and take him down. So to do this, we'll either need to find some pocket of resistance and see what they know, or we 'convince' someone to talk.”

Thinking that it would be better to get some answers rather than to start shooting without knowing specifics, you decide to start poking around for resistance groups. The problem is that you are unsure of where to start looking for these groups. As you rack your brain over this problem, your master speaks up.

“How about we just look around areas that we can hear gunfire coming from?”

Slapping yourself for not thinking of that earlier, you and your master start heading towards the sounds of intermittent gunfire, remaining careful not alert the rebels to your presence. It isn't long before you come upon a skirmish. One group has a mix of disciplined fighters and untrained grunts, while the other side is almost entirely made up of the latter group. It becomes very apparent to you that the side with the trained soldiers has the advantage, forcing the other side to attempt a retreat.

“Don't let those loyalist dogs get away, men!” The man barking the order is an older man, his face like old and scarred leather. His posture and movements tell you he's a career soldier if you've ever seen one. At this point, you could either let the rebels give chase to the resistance and attempt to pick them off one at a time while they are distracted, or you could openly engage them right away, allowing the resistance a better chance of escaping.

Currently you and your master are hiding at the entrance of an alley behind the rebel group. They have not noticed you yet.

A pull of the trigger is all it takes to blast a chunk of flesh out of the man you were aiming at. He goes down with a yelp of pain, alerting his compatriots to your presence. The other men turn towards you, leveling their weapons in your direction. Before they can fire though, you have already reloaded your pistol and fired it again, this time striking another man in the head, spraying gore behind him. The other men, too disciplined to falter from this display of violence, fire at you. You barely manage to throw yourself back behind the corner of the building, balls whizzing by and taking chunks out of the building's brick exterior.

Of the seven men that were there initially, two are dead and the other two that had rifles have fired already. You are unsure if any of them have pistols, and the other three men are now charging towards your position, each one equipped with a saber.

What do you do?

Okay?

Your nerves are like steel as you reload your pistol, your fingers steadily doing their work. Moving back out into the open you take aim and fire at one of the riflemen that was in the process of liberating a still loaded weapon from one of his compatriots. As the men get close enough to slash you with their weapons, you see your master move from the alley on the other side of the street, striking one with her prosthetic arm hard enough to cause a spray of gore to shoot onto the backs of the other two men. The sensation is enough to cause them to falter just enough for you to slip through the guard of the man closest to you with your dagger. You grip your dagger tight and use its resonance effect causing the blade to glow a dull blue as you slice clean through the man's chest, his ribcage and collarbone doing nothing to slow the blade. The last saber wielder stops in place, frozen by fear.

“Drop the sword.” Your master's words come out with the full weight of her authority. You hear a clattering of metal as he drops his sword and runs. Peeking back out around the corner of the building you see the other man retreating as well.

Do you give chase or allow them to retreat so you can instead talk with the resistance members?
>>
As a side note, I apologize for taking even longer than usual with updates tonight. Running this 3 days in a row is a bit more draining than I though it would be.
>>
>>30333124
>you see the other man

Is it one or multiple? If it's just one I suggest we give chase as our master interrogates, I don't want word to spread of us just yet.

So it seems that you have opted to talk to the resistance/loyalists. Writing.
>>
You watch the men flee the scene, slightly concerned about the repercussions that them informing their superiors might have. Not missing a beat though, you decide to start looting the fallen for anything of value. After sifting through everything, you pool your loot. You have gained:

-6 silver
-10 lead balls
-1 saber
-1 arquebus

While there are more weapons than that on the ground, carrying any more would impede you more than they would help.

“You can harvest the bones this time, I got plenty while I was waiting for you. I'll go talk with our resistance friends over there and see what they know.” Your master jogs over to the remaining resistance members and begins talking while you drag all the bodies together.

Rolling up the sleeves of your robe, you start with the one closest to you and cast Disjunction. Instantly, the cadaver starts twitching until the skeleton pops free, clean of internal organs and any other bits of flesh. You continue on down the line like this until you have five skeletons lined up. You get to work separating the marrow from the insides of the skeletons and then reducing the hollowed bones to bonemeal with the appropriate spells, until you have a decent sized sack of bonemeal and a large vial of concentrated bone marrow, which you store away.

By the time you are finishing up your master has returned.

“So it seems like the revolution is being headed by two men. One is the captain of the city guard, a fellow by the name of Michael Issuss. The other man's a bit of an enigma, all anyone knows is he's called Darrin. The governor and his family were taken hostage at the start of the revolution while the city guard closed the gates and the harbor off. I think the plan was for them to isolate the city until they had everything under control. Right now the word is that Darrin and Issuss are at the governor’s mansion.”

[1/2]
>>
The news that the captain of the guard himself is part of this worries you a bit.

“What happened to the members of the guard that didn't go along with their captain?”

“Imprisoned, or so everyone seems to think. Apparently there were quite a few of them that didn't want to be a part of this.”

What do you do?
>Go to the prison to try to free the loyalist guard

>>
>>30334300
Calling it, Darrin is a mage and the loyalist guards have been reduced to their constituents.

>>30334563
I don't normally give people shit for writing speed. I'm not a fast writer myself and I wouldn't want you to sacrifice quality for speed. But it is trowing me off a bit. I get tired of waiting and do something else. Then I forget that I have this quest open in the other tab. By the time I remember the decisions been made.

Again speed isn't something you can help and you should never sacrifice quality, but it might explain why you're getting so few responses.
>>
>>30335060
Happened to me as well.
>>
You decide that freeing the imprisoned loyalist guards would be the best course of action at the moment. Although there is a chance that doing so could cause the remaining rebel forces to pull back and reinforce their headquarters, having the rest of the guard free would make attempting to infiltrate the headquarters much easier. As you make your way towards the city jail you notice that there are fewer and fewer patrols until eventually you see no one. Arriving at the jail, you understand why.

Standing in the center of the plaza you see a massive figure, one of its hands clutching a bloody corpse by the neck, the other a greatsword made of bone. Its armor, spattered with blood, gleams in the mid day sun. It turns towards you, showing its face.

At least, that would be the case if it did have a face.

Under its helm is a skull, a smoldering ember residing in its eyes socket.

Alright, I'm gonna call it here for the night. My typing has slowed way more than I would like. As always, I'll take questions until the thread dies.

I noticed we picked up a arquebus, is that standard for this setting or are there flintlock and caplock as well?
>>
>>30335375
Caplock weapons are the current bleeding edge of conventional firearms at this point, but the majority of weapons are a mix of match and flintlock.
>>
>>30335375
>>30335427
shit I missed that. I assume it is a black powder weapon. Can it be converted to a bone weapon. Or can we cannibalize it to make a bone weapon.
>>
>>30335427
Cool. One last question, how do you feel about meta knowledge? Like if the players try to make a magic submachine gun or a caplock revolver?
>>
>>30335563
>caplock revolver
do we even need the cap lock. I mean the point of cap lock, flint lock, and match lock is to ignite the powder. We don't use powder. At least we don't need to.
>>
>>30335562
Either one of those are options you can pursue

>>30335563
Regardless of your own meta knowledge, some things won't be available to you as the basis of that tech might not have been developed yet. Also, some designs might be pointless to develop due to the mechanics of the bone weapons.
>>
>>30335633
Seeing as how we have a limited number of shots with bone weapons it may be prudent to carry around an alternate form of defense.
