In all honesty, there's a lotta crazy maneuvers one can pull off with a relatively mundane broadsword. Although a weapon that can be easily drawn and sheathed without telegraphing the attack might be in order here, since Bardock seems to take a flexible yet measured approach to fighting. It should fill a niche that punches or kicks can't.

for those who don't know what that is. Ichigo's bakai sword is an Odachi. As is Sephiroth's Masamune. They are rather long yet fairly maneuverable weapons. I also quite like the style of them

The problem with a rapier imo is that as it is made to be fairly flexible it makes it shit for doing any sort of blocking, regardless of how much ki we put into it. A more rigid sword will allow us to actually block which could be useful.

Heres an idea of types of Japanese swords:
