Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata (DB), an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and half the island is controlled by paranoid Lunars. Fun times.
Right now, you're in the wyld. Your battleplan is unfolding itself, but not everything is going according to it' and you don't know what to expect next. At least, Prince Samiel and Garnet (the Fae at you just oathbound) are with you. You hope Tia, your lunar mate, will be able to find you...

Regarding cannons for our age of sail or something better than oarsmen ambition, whil there is no gunpowder and only blubberoil and firedust that might provide some form of power, there is the option of pressure cannon via Haslanti Steam devices.

for that either us or Irene would need a lot of Twilight or Equivalent, and probably a source of said steam devices and perhaps a machinist or forger of said devices.

It will be way way hard than carronades, and would require some serious hydraulic engineering, but it will do the trick.

You begin to look around, exploring the surroundings. The fog seems to part, and reveals a dark cormer of the swamp, filled with broken ruins whose origin you can't guess. They don't seem to be typical Western architecture, nor... Architecture from anywhere you know of, really.

The ground is soggy, and your feet sink deeply into it you move slowly, with Samiel trailing behind you. Garnet just seems unbothered and able to walk on water, which makes you want to punch him even more.

"...this isn't a real place, right?" you ask him.

"What's the difference?" he asks' honestly looking like he doesn't know.

You knock on a shattered, half-crumbled wall covered with moss as you walk along it. "These structures don't make sense. Look at the road layout. Look at where the windows are. Look at how little doors there are. Someone with no idea on how a city really works made this. And he made it already-half-smashed on purpose."

"What purpose?" Samiel wonders, lifting a loose brick and turning it in his hands. It crumbles down to nothing after a few seconds.

"...keep us here. Searching this place. Stalling for time." You push a wall, easily toppling it. It falls down without a noise, vanishing before it can hit the ground. Beyond, a small pathway snakes up some dark, thickly forested hills.

"Or just mindgames." he nods.

The three of you push onwards onto the dark, brooding forest.

It's not just a NORMAL forest, you notice quickly. It's a lot more like the Illustration you'd see on a children's storybook. The trees all look like they have distorted faces on their trunks, and gnarly branches reminding you of clawed hands.

"Talk about trying too hard." Samiel comments, taking his sword to a branch. The cut limb sprouts blood as the tree screams mournfully. "...okay. THAT is creepy."

"...Let me guess, this is the Forest of Lost Souls you mentioned earlier." You ask Garnet.

He nods.

After a few minutes of walking, the path you were following just disappears, leaving you stranded in a small clearing of the forest.

The air is filled with tension, like something is just about to happen right now.

"...what now?" Samiel mumbles, sword in hand, glancing left and right.

Then with a scream, in unison, lizardmen pour out of the trees' mouths, charging at you.

"Okay, that's more like it." He grins as his blade begins to glow a dull red.

A group of five of these hobgoblins moves straight against you, but their wild movements telegraph their attacks by a long way.

The first lizardman lunges at you with a wooden spear tipped by sharp obsidian. You sidestep, grab it, pull him along and trip him, sending him down sprawled onvthe ground. You smash the tip of his spear on the back of his head.

The others quickly overwhelm you, an axe being swinged close enough to you to nearly take come hair out of your head. You deflect a stone sword with what's left of the spear, toss it at the foot of the fourth oncoming lizardman to send him off-balance, and duck sideways to avoid a thrown javelin, which stabs into a tree just behind you (whicn then bleeds and screams, obviously).

You step back, your guard held high.

A short leap back gives you time and space to shift your stance and balance, and placing the axe-wielding lizardman between you and the others.

Predictably, he's the first one charging you, letting out a rough, hoarse scream as he lifts his weapon.

Before he can move into range, you do a short leap forward, closing faster than he expected, and snap off his weapon's haft with a snap kick. Or... You try to, at least.

Instead the result is you slamming your foot into the blade. The gossamer boots aren't cut by the blade, but the impact sends a pang of pain up your leg.

As you bring it back down to support yourself, you lose balance, miss a beat, and take a javelin straight to the chest.

You lose control of the fight. Struggling for air, you try and pull back, and the former axe-wielder shoulder-checks you from the side, sending you slamming against a screaming tree.

The sword-wielding hobgoblin siezes the opportunity and charges you, point-first, intending to nail you to the cursed tree.

You duck under another axe blow, step forward and slam your fist into the hobgoblin's chest, but you can't manage to hit him square on, and the two of you end up tangling as he drops his axe and you begin to grapple with each other.

After a second, you feel a strong tug, and the lizardman is pulled away from you. You see Garnet holding him, lifting him up effortlessly with one arm. The creature is paralized, stiff as a statue.

"Sorry. I was trying to get them to stop without hurting them, but they won't listen to me." He smiles.

He opens his mouth, and the lizardman melts and flows inside it in a spiral.

"Buh." You vocalize.

You look all around you. No more imminent threats, it seems. The fight is over, leaving you in a thrashed, corpse-strewn black forest.

A distant noise of raging waves distracts you for a moment.

His wrist doesn't budge. He raises his other arm, and a long dagger with a black, twisted blade materializes in his hand. "I believe it's... About time... For you... To DIE..."

The waves rage closer. You hear screams and the noise of creaking wood.

Garnet grabs the other hand, clutching the dagger, and pulls on it away from you. "I won't let you."

As a reply, the fae twists his hand in an unnatural way, stabbing the blade all the way through Garnet's arm. He screams, but doesn't let go.

The fae turns his head back to you. "...what about you?" he wonders. Without as much as a flick of his fingers, he sends a previously-nonexisting knife spinning against your face, shere... It bounces off harmlessly, fortunately.

Before he can try something else, as you and Garnet hold him in place by pulling on his arms in opposite directions, a wave of saltwater washes over you, followed by the hull of a wooden sailing ship landing right between the two on you, and square on the fae's head, crushing him.

You look up, to see the familiar profile of the Bloodshark. Out of its natural element, but no less welcome.

"Alright. Lower the anchor, men!"
Boy are you happy to hear her voice right now.
