For the Major Tom thread from today:What are some space/star/gravity based powers and magic that a player could use in a DnD setting? Doesn't matter which system, whether or not it exists in the game, or if it's completely homebrewed.Just looking for outer space themed magic, post at will.
>>31246243Generation of small gravity wells.
>>31246243The ability to adjust his own personal gravity.
>>31246243The power to make two separate objects pull/push each other with amplified gravitational force.
Silence room. All your hear is AM static and he makes his report to Ground Control, oblivious to what's happening around him.
>>31246352I think they decided in the thread about Major Tom that he was immune to being deafened/blinded as he'd spent so long in the vacuum of space.
He can't change the Earths gravity on himself, but he can increase or decrease the attraction between two objectsHe can cook enemies with radiationObviously can survive without air or anythingDoesn't need to sleepResistance to extreme heat and coldWhat more could he need?
>>31246382It's not that he 'needs' it, but he has it.If he's even aware of these powers, he probably forgets them on a weekly basis.
>>31246382>Doesn't need to sleepCant sleep, ever, spends all his time fully conscious, all those years in space, screaming and cursing space.
>>31246414Wishing for that jet pack.
>>31246371He's not silenced. He silences the room in order to recreate the the conditions of that space log.The room'll go silent and while players are swinging at eachother or whatever, he's just all:>Year seven. So many stars. God, I don't think I could ever get tired of looking at them.>Year 9. The galaxies are looking quite nice now that I've started spinning.Maybe he IS blinded and deafened, but you still hear his voice and stuff cause spess magic.
>>31246382Going real, real fast.
Didn't they decide he had a wishing star stuck inside his head that nobody knew about? What if when people made any statement starting with "I wish..."..?
Localized vacuums, cosmic radiation bursts, meteor summoning, (the rest of these are an extrapolation of gravity's influence on the flow of relativistic time) light slowing based illusion, past event projection, aura of muscle atrophy.
>>31246400NOo I understand. I'm just saying there are tons of space themed powers you COULD give him. They just might be a little OP.Maybe he can fly like a rocket; one dorection very fast.Or maybe he can summon a meteor.
>>31246473If you missed the Major Tom thread, he has a jet pack powered by screams.
>>31246504I saw it. It just might be a bit much
The smell of steel and seared steak foretells his arrival as does all metal in the area spontaneously spot welding to other metallic objects.
>>31246524That can't be where you draw the line on Major Tom.The jet pack was probably the least ridiculous thing about him.
You guys make me so happy.
I think a lot of Major Tom's appeal and usefulness to the party is going to be out of combat, because of the Wishing Star in his head. Sure, he's got the Space Mace with the Survivor Rifle as the hilt, but he's not a warrior: he's a guy who became a skeleton by accident. he's going to have passives and non-combat active skills out the ass, though.
>>31246562Would you mind posting your current Major Tom playlist for us? I'd actually like to build one myself.
>>31246585I agree. I like him having the ability to fight in SOME manner, of course, but he doesn't need to be a damage output machine.
I missed the first thread, DID THIS FUCKER EVER GO TO THE MOON? This is very important.
>>31246614Certainly. One moment, please.
>>31246647No he did not. Lemme find his backstory I saved from thread 1.
>>31246615If anything Tom, your character should have massive burst damage once per day due to one power, either that or he has a debuff power that makes everyone helpless by dragging them into a space environment (no gravity, silent, tom can move and act like a traumatized space barbarian )
Freeze drying touch attacks.

I just have to say that I've just finished reading the last thread on Sup/tg/ and I love everything about this character. As far as music is concerned, power ballads are definitely the way to go.
>>31248533I think the music should vary depending on the mood at the time.In one of our campaigns we found a magical record player that was basically just as excuse for us to play fitting music as the game went on, Major Tom could also serve this purpose if desired.
>>31248708Oh agreed. I just mean that when I think of Major Tom, I think of his potential heroism, and can't help but imagine his more dramatic and heroic actions set to an inspiring power ballad.

I have to say gents, that even though I don't know why exactly, I love that old music and radio broadcasts are just as much a part of this character as being a skeleton and being an astronaut are. I find the mental image of the BBEG (probably a lich) standing over the party's broken bodies laughing at themLaughing at their pitiful attempt to stop himLaughing at there little skeleton friendThen tom stands up, barely audible is the announcer on his headset saying "That last song was 500 miles by the Proclaimers, up next is... Rocketman by Elton john"the BBEG strikes tom down again. He stand back up.BBEG blasts him with Fire and Ice."You think that can stop me? i drifted for millions of years, through the coldest cold to exist, i was caught in a star for millions more, NOW FEEL MY WRATH"Tom opens his visor, the sound of the radio becomes deafening "Oh no, no, no, I'm a rocket man! ROCKETMAN, BURNING OUT HIS FUSE UP HERE ALONE!"The BBEG starts to waver."What are you doing!""showing you what i learned from the void"The BBEG's flesh starts to melt under the skeletons starethe walls of the BBEG's lair start to burn and crackThe BBEG is a crippled pile, still screaming.Tom closes his visor as the song finishesAnd smashes the last remaining parts of the BBEG with his space-macehe turns to the part."Goodbye, comrades"and with those last words, Tom crumbles to dust.
>>31250720He shouldn't have shitty dialogue like that, he should just be singing along out of key
>>31250783>BBEG blasts him with Fire and Ice.>"HELLO!">Tom opens his visor, the sound of the radio becomes deafening, even though it's supposed to be just quiet piano music.>The BBEG starts to waver.>"What are you doing!">"IS IT ME YOU'RE LOOKING FOR?"
I'd like to see a scenario where Major Tom gets lost or captured somehow, and the party cleric or shaman has to contact one of his ghostly entourage of lost cosmonauts and astronauts for advice, and get the ghost of Laika to follow his spectral scent.

Fuck yeah Major Tom
>>31251587The party casts whatever spell or ritual they need to contact Tom's entourage and the world fades out and is replaced by a starfield. They're surrounded by cosmonauts and astronauts, chimps and dogs and rats and rabbits and who knows what else has gotten sent up to space, a whole holy choir of stoic and resolute but kind looking starfarers in their suits. If there was ever the time to ask any questions about Tom's past on his behalf, now would be it.

I need to be heading off to sleep Space Cadets. These two threads have been some of the most enjoyable I've ever taken part of, and I want to thank you all for them.Stars watch over you Major Tom, wherever you are.
Goodnight.
I had an idea once. An idea that if you die in the void your soul gets lost among the stars. But time and space dialate and the lost soul can become more and more aware of itself and the fabric of the universe. However the unthinkable took place. Major tom found his body. After acheaving buhddah like enlightenment and power finding his previous form and became filled with rage and every other emotion amplified an unfathomable amount of times to us mortals. When tom becomes one with his body again it draws the souls of his fellow lost cosmonaughts to their bodies. One by one they fal back to earth. Towers of unmeasurable radiation. Eqch one, now back in the physical realm is stark raving mad.At first they communicate by cutting up radio transmissions from the 60s and 70s to communicate. Gramatically correct but other then that utter gibberish. Eventually Tom and the Cosmonaughts still communicate via radio waves with their own voices but it is little more then the ravings of a monster.
"You can't honestly believe it."Yohn asked idly, turning a rather fine antique vase around in his hands, the avarice in his gaze tamped down but still present in the smirk on his lips."That the Major really is what he claims. Some sort of "sailor of the cosmos" come to Vancia from beyond the stars. I'm a good liar, but even I couldn't get away with a story that absurd."Runa Dawnsmith turned to her shopping companion and carefully removed the vase from his grasp with her own gauntleted hands, made a small noise of warning as she did so. Normally Runa had little trouble bringing Yohn to heel, especially with Lisbet's disapproving pout brought to bear against the rapscallion's fractitious, self-serving personality. Today, however, the young priestess' good influence was needed to keep Major Tom on his best behavior while in town, leaving the Paladin-Justicar and the Dick-Ass Thief paired up to purchase their supplies."He rode a shooting star down from the sky. He left a crater in the field where we found him. I know I was skeptical at first too, but what more proof do you need?"
>>31250936>implying he didn't reply with IS THIS REAL LIFE, OR IS THIS FANTA SEA?
>>31254425I like this idea. The souls of the dead go to the sky so they can't reunite with their dead bodies. Then with a space program someone is able to get into space and die there...
Having Major Tom defeat the BBEG with a Cosmic Ray Blast is pretty fantastic, but I think I'd much rather have him bear-hug the BBEG and blast off using his jetpack, taking them both to space while "Rocket Man" plays them out.
>>31257181i just fucking LOVE the idea of Tom opening his visor and unleashing both cosmic death AND some sweet riffs.
>>31255888I really am liking this
Can we get some rules for Toms jet/rocketpack?Would it be a sustainable flight type thing, or an explosive launch? Can it ever run out of screams? The ride never ends
Do you think Tom remembers his death.I mean dying in space would be one of the worst ways to die, all alone, drifting throught the void wondering what it's like back home.
>>31246243Kobold Quarterly had a light & shadow school of magic in an issue back in 2008 that was pretty balanced. As I recall, it was a lot of star themed magic, with a bit of gravity control.

>>31255888The bell on the general store's door rang, indicating the presence of a new customer, which temporarily brought the conversation to a stop. Not seeming all too upset about having his prize taken away, Yohn moved on to the next trinket that caught his eye, leaving Runa be to finish gathering their necessary supplies. "I suppose such a feat would be hard to fake."The thief admitted once the interloper, a spell-slinger by his robes arcane paraphernalia, had moved out if earshot, his attention turned now toward a bejeweled candlestick, looking it up and down in such a way as if he were estimating how conspicuous it would look secreted beneath his surcoat."Even were he skilled in the arcane arts. Which he most definitely is not."Only half listening, the Paladin-Justicar's looked back at the coil of thick rope that had caught her attention, remembering how Tom sometimes insisted that they all be tethered together in case of emergencies. Nodding to herself, Runa slung the hefty rope across one armored shoulder before throwing another glance Yohn's way, inwardly relieved to see that the candlestick was still there and that her companion had moved along to the merchant's counter where the bulk if their supplies waited to be haggled over.
>>31258163"True enough."The Paladin-Justicar grunted, crouching to pick up the basket of sundry items she'd intended on purchasing before trucking it and the heavy rope over to the counter where the 'slinger seemed to be in a heated argument with the shop's owner."And besides all that. When have you ever seen anything like the armor he we-"Runa muttered, moving in close beside Yohn just in time for the man to elbow her armored side hard enough to silence her and no doubt give himself quite a bruise. The thief looked over to the Paladin-Justicar, and with deadly serious intent motioned, discreetly, with his head to the spell-slinger currently shouting at the shopkeeper. Or, more accurately, what the spell-slinger was trying to find more information about:A fragment of white and grey, riveted metal, bearing upon it a red glyph on a blue circle spangled with stars, surmounted by a white ellipse and the letters NASA.

>>31259394eventually the BBEG figures this out, but he uses so many that they too become ineffective as Major Tom decides to ignore them as well.
>>31259394 "Existential quandaries are something of a specialty of mine. Step aside!"
Someone mentioned the Trauma Override Harness from F:NV in the previous thread.DARPA has been developing suits that both continue functioning after their operator has died, and use the biomass for fuel.Reality is worse than fiction, in this case.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e5-0t0pTF0if at all possible this should also be included, there might be a couple more from SoS that could work as well.
>>31259649oh god whatWhy does the suit need fuel if the operator is dead? What the fuck? Or is it just turning the human inside into energy that someone else has to scoop out? eeeeergughg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luZNFYz-CVwDid somebody say space songs?
>>31259733I've heard of both these developments, and they are actually seperate projects. The first is a harness is meant to allow soldiers to carry heavier loads across rough terrain and is worn like a backpack and leg braces. The second is merely meant to allow military vehicles and equipment to run on alternate fuel sources like wood, grain, etc.
>>31259733Well, no. The suit needs fuel so it can keep walking around after the operator has died, or be remote-controlled (the current prototypes are RC).The net effect being that a dude your sandblasted brown ass just shot through the fucking face gets up, rights itself, and charges you, spewing some unholy, godawful, horrifying combination of bullets, gases or grenades in every direction before detonating or keeling over, half-digested. Kamikaze zombies. This is real life.
>>31259811>>31259860A lot of the research has focused on suits which would remain autonomous after operator death, or would be unmanned and simply consume remains for fuel. This hasn't been well-publicized, for obvious reasons.
As far as powers are concerned, I'd like to repost this from the last thread:>Further idea: doing so doesn't just open a portal to vacuum, but recreates the conditions of his death; everything in the room becomes weightless, the room itself might start tumbling, giant gashes appear in the walls leading to space as debris punches through the outer hull, the air fills with the panicked commands of Mission Control, etc.If they're outside, things get even weirder. Also, for music, how the hell has no one mentioned the Gorillaz remix album Laika Come Home? Major Tom is the hero /tg/ deserves.
OP of the original Major Tom here, and I have news of the game's development. So, my DM has decided to ALLOW the Astral Jetpack. He is allowing me a 50 song limit Playlist that I may choose from at any point for story reasons, plus 1 song to play as my Nat20 song.Cosmic Powers:He digs the gravity wells, and a cosmic punch, but other than that, no powers granted.I am allowed as many personalities as I wish. This is Major Tom, signing off to /tg/ Control. Tell my wife I love her.And tell my daughter I'm sorry.
>>31264384Oh, and tell the stars FUCK YOU!
>>31264384yessssss
>>31264384You inspire us all with your greatness, Sir.
>>31264384I still say Don't Stop Me Now should be your nat20 song.

>>31264547What about Light Up The Night by The Protomen? It's one of those songs that gives you a chill when the right bit comes along."Light up the night! There is a city that this darkness can't hide! There are the embers of a fire that's gone out,But i can still feel the heat on ky skin,This mess were in, you and IYou and ICan bring back the light"
>>31264632*my*you and i/we can light up the night
Part 1/2 of the current Playlist. Note that some songs were chosen purely for the juxtaposition they grant by being so vastly different from the rest.

>>31264689A Story is the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song.Theme is the James Bond theme song.

He's a Russian cosmonaut, right? National anthem of the USSR.
>>31264787I may have been a Russian Cosmonaut at one point in time.I may have been Don Draper, who knows?
>>31264668>>31264689>>31264740you should probably pepper in some top 40 junk since its a radio.I think Pompeii by Bastille might work. Hear me out! According to an interview, the song about a conversation between two inhabitants of the city of Pompeii as the city is destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.its about dealing with basically mummified and trapped forever.I really like the chorus alright?
>>31264668>>31264689Just how far out was Tom, anyway? Would it have gotten to the point where he was far enough away that all the locally-available broadcasts would have been radio from the 30's, 40's and 50's?Would he have traveled back through time, broadcast-wise, as he drifted further into space?I guess I'm suggesting that the most prominent media in his memory should be stuff from that era. Radio dramas, department store jingles, show tunes, those sorts of things should be the freshest in his mind if he's tuning in from the void. If he's got some FTL broadcast technology that spits current music into his headset, that would be one thing, but I don't know how you want to fluff this. I think it would be pretty interesting if traveling to that other universe made everything wonky, and he started hearing "the oldies" again, songs which are, to us, the modern era, but to him he hasn't heard in hundreds of years.
>>31264856Yeah, his mix is all fucked up due to the wormhole and his sheer amount of drift time. He could have music we've never heard of, if only I could put it on the list.
>>31264856I blame Spelljammers
The Only Ones by Hawklords/Hawkwind?Really spacey, and sombre.
>>31264887>music we've never heard ofI hear that's all they've got over at /mu/.

>>31265511Well it appears that Don't Stop Me Now has the majority vote, so I'll go with that. Flash will be saved for when I finally craft a ray gun.
>>31265598Well aren't I the fool! I'd forgotten! My vote's for "Don't Stop Me Now" then!
>>31264384God Speed, Major Tom.
I think this is perfect for him:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q1yyoe377k
Is any else hoping that Major Tom continues to just appear in random threads with a status update? That would be fucking hilarious.
>>31266549only if the status is completely unrelated to the thread he has crash landed in
>>31266630it should be a meme li*CLANG* WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!
>>31266674FUCKING STARS.
What if Major Tom is the result of George Clooney's character in Gravity?remember when he let's go! drifting forever in space in order to save Sandra Bullock?
>>31266840nah, for Major tom to truly have been sent far enough for there to only have been stars he'd have to go further than Neptune. and orbital mechanics wouldn't have allowed Clooney's character to have left the orbit he was in.>>31266674>>31266741he should totally have a truly immovable rod.
>>31266987Well, he has that mace made up of random metals he had collected through the years and cold welded together.Would it function as a cold forged weapon for ghost purposes?
How about a flagpole with the Hammer & Sickle of the Soviet Union which had the tip sharpened into a makeshift spear?
>>31269224nah, he has what amounts to a hammer made up of random cold welded scrap that came with him. he wouldn't have a flag pole in space, at least not that type.
>>31269383Has anyone found suitable images of such a weapon? MY PROFILE IS LACKING, GROUND CONTROL.
>>31269423I've been looking for a while, and haven't been able to find anything better looking than the super sledge from the Fallout universe.
>>31269423looking now, but I don't see anything, it might be worth it to ask some /k/omrades
>>31269681The original design idea looks more Space junky
>>31269693Perhaps, but /k/ can sometimes be as unfriendly as the worst of /tg/. AND MAJOR TOM IS FRIGHTENED.>>31269681That was what I had thought too, but I dunno if he could shape such a thing.
>>31269761It's got my vote.
>>31269761I was actually looking for concept art of the sledge but my brain is tired and my Google FU was weak. You've got my thanks in this. >>31269769This sledge has got my vote, in that even though it's not something that Tom could have cold welded together himself, it's so thoroughly space-junky that it looks like it could have been the component he was trying to repair before he got knocked into space. Plus, as the last remaining piece of his ship left, it would definitely have some sentimental value and impact to it.
Found something else but it may be too rusted to be space-junk.
>>31269855>>31269785>>31269761I like it. Thanks, Anons.
>>31269911Pleasure's all ours Major.
>>31269855>impact to it.I see what you did there
>>31269928Can we take this opportunity to agree that the Major is officially the mascot of /tg/? I love him so much.
>>31269963>what is love..? baby don't hurt me.>don't hurt me... no more.
>>31269963I might not call Major Tom a "mascot," but he's definitely one of the best things to have come out of this board in a long, long while.
>>31269963nope.Let's enjoy the idea and let him play it instead of running it into the fucking ground and beating its corpse.
>>31270016Leave beating toms corpse to the BBEG's traps.
>>31270016Hey, I'm no corpse, ruffian.But I do agree. Maybe a 1d4chan page. MAYBE.
>>31270061RATTLERATTLERATTLERATTLEGood one.
>>31270087you better story time this after it happens, when's the game?
>>31270169Hopefully tomorrow.
>>31270376Here's your chance, /tg/:Post in this thread, quoting this post, with what you want to see in the Major Tom story after tomorrow's game.It is D&D Next, heavily homebrewed to allow the Major to function as a character, and our BBEG is a massivedicks Blackguard Paladin with a necromancer Guard Force.Post the shenanigans you want me to try to pull off, the lines you want me to drop, anything related to Major Tom Foolery get it?Now's your chance!
>>31270618obviously he needs to have at least one fight where he doesn't do anything but give a play by play like a radio sports announcer.
>>31270735Added. Thank you.
>>31270618Have him pull out some Tang and mix it, and the wizard will lose his mind.
>>31270618Honestly, I'd rather you just play out the session and see how things go, rather than hamfist in things that /tg/ asked you to do.yeah I know, nfa
>>31270618I feel there should be at least one quote from The Fury.
>>31270887>The FuryI'd rather a Captain Vladimir
>>31270887But... Which should it be?And it should trigger if Maj. Tom gets ahold of a wand of fireballs.
>>31270887I CAME BACK FROM SPACEWhenever there's a decent lull in action and things, I want you to do the whole "Mission Report" talk to Houston and try to explain what's happened since you made contact.
>>31270618The Fury: You're running low on anger.
>>31270908Mission control, I'm coming home. You're running low on anger. Can you feel my fury?Behold the flames of fury, the fires in hell shall purge me clean!
>>31270618Just wanted to say, I finally read the suptg thread, and this is easily the most belligerent character I have ever seen. And he is perfect.
he should see every little girl, even non human ones, as his own daughter (what was her name again?) and actually be a pretty decent dad, until the real father takes her back/ she says no and leaves, major tom never could deny her anything.
>>31271102We never named her officially, but he was Russian, so she should be too.Name suggestions? Or does he even know?
>>31271102Not EVERY little girl, but somewhat defined little girl.Short dark hair, light skin, and wearing yellow.
What DM in their right mind is going to allow this absolutely broken and overpowered character?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=megTdzFFifEChoose freely Major
Can Tom offer astronaut ice cream to every little girl that reminds him of [Daughters name here] and maybe offer a piggyback ride? For some reason a little girl riding on a Skeleton-Astronauts shoulders is the saddest fucking thing i've thought of all day...
>>31271211I will do this for you, Anon. With a heavy heart, but for you.We need to name my daughter, whether Tom knows the name or not.
>>31271200I like his style.
>>31271275Tatyana
>>31271275AnastasiaAlexandraAnna Elsa
>>31271343I like this one.remember guys, Lolita was originally a Russian female name.
>>31271343>>31271449He could call her Totti or Anna for short?
>>31271469Better:His wife was named Tatyana, and through his adventures, Major Tom invents and names the "Hot Totty" drink. His daughter was named Charly, and she was an adorable little redhead.
>>31271509I'm game, that sounds pretty cool.We need a picture(s) of Charly that he keeps in his helmet. Keep in mind she would be alive today, so she's a modern girl.(What a strange thought, the Major's daughter would be alive today, and he is probably drifting in space already.)
>>31271544He still has vague memories of that day at the beach.I feel he should be somewhat lucid when it comes to his family.
>>31271619And the day that Tatyana graduated from the academy. He was so proud of her.
>>31271643>>31271619I love it.Also, my DM has dictated that I can do all of these crazy things, but for story reasons, he wants me to be a cosmonaut active today. He said specifically that the Major would have lost communication with Ground Control literally just last year. So he drifts until the year 2347 at which point he hits the wormhole, and is deposited in the game world. It's kind of sad to have faces and names for his family now...
>>31271709>story reasonsIf the BBEG uses Tom's family against him in ANY way, I'm going to fucking lose my mind.
>>31271775H-he wouldn't do that...Would he?
>>31271822;____;
>space based powers thread>nobody mentions book cop's secret attack from the secret attack almanac>cross arms in x over chest>uncross arms>cross again>summon giant fireball in space>rains down in waves of fire over one side of the planet>only kills bad guys.Yeah, if you're playing 3.5 this would be a reasonable... 3rd level spell for a wizard.
>>31271886We're playing Next, but that sounds like something in the Spell List. I'll need to check and find out.
>>31271822if he does then it will be the end of the BBEG, you don't mess with immortals that have no real constraints with what they will do to you if you hurt them in an unforgivable way.pic related, Comrade Tom just used Summon Ally on those Capatlist pigs.

>>31272318>>31272303If so he should keep the space helmet.
>>31272303>>31272318>>31272329Never.
>>31272303His suit is a big part of who he is. Also a bit of a disguise. If the visor is reflective, people would just think he's a strange man in an incredibly strange costume, instead of a raving skeleton.
>>31272391It's one of those 2 stage helmets, with a clear visor that can be raised/lowered, and then the reflective orange tinted visor that goes on top of that.
>>31272122YesThis should be his happy ending song.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5iOiLX5ppA
>>31272494Added to the list. Thank you Anon. One (01) Wish Star is en route to your position.

>>31272542Glad to help. I'll wish for a PS4>>31272552It is only by the grace of Bowie that it has come to pass.
Damn, guys. The Major's daughter grew up hot.and she's following in his footsteps, in search of her stranded father.
I have elected to have a character similar to Dr. Pogo from Umbrella Academy be the Major's imaginary guide, as opposed to every spirit from space ever. Those are the ones who fuel his jet pack, however. If you've read the series you will understand why.
