It's time, /tg/. The first play session of Major Tom has just concluded, and do I have a story for you.Bump the thread for a bit as I type it out, because it is a lengthy tale.If any of you are fans of Major Tom, make sure to stick around, this story is a doozy.
>>31282599Sweet Jesus yes
First, party make-up.Player 1: Tiefling Cleric. Calm, cool, collected type. He uses a ouija board as his holy symbol and worships the Raven Queen. Pic related.
>>31282649Player 2: Human Paladin, walks the path of JUSTICE and SMITING. He carries around a tall shield with a sword, and hates the undead But I still think he's a pretty cool guy.
>>31282676Player 3: Elven Ranger. The Hunter/forager of the party. She has an interest in the mystical side of everything. and she looks so familiar...
>>31282711And then there's me.Now, sitting down at the table, the other players have no idea what my character is or anything. They are sitting around the table, patiently introducing their characters. Then it gets to my turn and I use KNOWING GLANCE on my DM. He nods, and the party looks puzzled, but we continue. I have my iPad at the ready, with a selection of musical hits at my disposal. So, the party starts without me,going about the usual methods a DM would use to explain a party forming from mostly strangers. (The Elf and the Tiefling had traveled together for a few months prior to the game's start.)They seem even more confused when my character has no introduction, and is seemingly not present at all.The DM leads them on an adventure to stop an Elven Warlord (pic related) who has been amassing forces in an attempt to overthrow the local governing hand and insert himself as the new bigwig of the area.>cont.
>>31282805>waitingpatientlyforop.zip
>>31282805>>31282884I don't know what this is but I'm so in
>>31282805The party makes a few investigative checks, and eventually is led to an abandoned storehouse that used to be used for arms and ammunition, that had been cleaned out and transported elsewhere.Well, apparently, this Warlord thought it was a good idea to set up shop here, and move all of his weapons, explosives, and men into this storehouse as a sort of Mother Base of his own.The party sets up a plan to raid it, waiting until nightfall. The elf ranger reports that she sees him walking about outside with a few of his men, sort of taking inventory, it seems.>I hit playAnd then they hear it.Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" begins to fill the air, although the characters have no fucking clue what it is. The players and DM begin to lose composure a bit."Look, in the sky!", shouts the Paladin. "Be it hellfire?"Streaks of fire and rock appear in the night sky, and the sound of a madman screaming lasso permeates the air.>There is someone else controlling meI scream from the meteor I am clinging to.>Death in the airI spot the mercenary king, and just scream at him from up on high.>Strapped in the electric chair>This can't be happening to meI'M SO FUCKING HAPPY TO BE HEADING TO TERRA FIRMA ONCE MOREThe warlord is staring in fear, and the party member is waiting with bated breath.>Who made you God to say>"I'll take your life from you!"And then... Impact.>cont.
>>31282805Looks like Khal Drogo and a Warhammer Wardancer had a lovechild.
>>31282915I explode onto the ground, detonating what used to be an elven warlord. The party freaks, standing up and charging the scene. They go running down the hills, as mercenaries come out of the storehouse.>next song starts>Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time>I feel ali-i-i-ive and the world it's turning inside out>Yeah>I'm floatin' around in ecstasy so,>Don't stop me now,>Don't stop me>Cuz I'm havin' a good time, havin' a good timeThis whole time, I am emerging from my crater, and swinging my MACE OF SPACE like a goddamn madman, taking out hordes of the mercs as the party make their way down to the fight.>I'm a shooting star leaping through the skies>Like a tiger defying the laws of gravityBodies everywhere, and the rest of the guys finally get there and we start fighting off the mercenaries. As the dust settles, the party stares at me, not sure of what to think of the man who fell from the sky.>cont.
>>31283004I ignore them completely, and talk to a small radio unit on my helmet."GROUND CONTROL, MAJOR TOM. I have made contact. It has been so long, Ground Control. 326 years by my calculations. 326 FUCKIN' YEARS FLOATING IN THAT BLACK DEATH WE CALL THE FINAL FRONTIER, HAHAHA. Now attempting contact with local inhabitants."At this point, I approach the party and am immediately SMITED by the Paladin, who is an asks questions later kind of guy.The sword cleaves through my being and shatters everything that I am, and the players have no idea what to do. And then, I begin to RATTLERATTLE reform."WHAT MANNER OF VILE UNDEATH ARE YOU?", cries the bitch add paladin. I reform my skull last, and then I look him in the eyes and hit a switch on my control panel.NOW THIS IS A STORY ALL ABOUT HOW MY LIFE GOT FLIPPED, TURNED UPSIDE DOWNAnd the DM does me the favor of catching the party up to speed.Fast forward a bit.>cont.
Aww yeah I remeber the previous threads
>>31283103We walk throughout the wilderness for awhile, with my helmet constantly blaring the hits of the 70s and 80s, much to the confusion of the party.I am constantly updating "Ground Control" with whatever I am currently doing/experiencing. We make our way to the city, and the sun is rising. People have begun to emerge from their homes, and in order to not incite mass panic, the Tiefling looks to me and says "I know not what sort of creature you are, and the Raven Queen has no guidance for me. So that being said, I have determined you are neither good nor evil, but rather an inbetween. As such, I will grant you the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. However, we must hide your visage so as not to frighten the population here."I look at him, and wait a moment before sliding my reflective visor down and begin to walk backwards, moonwalk style."THIS USED TO BE THE GREATEST DANCE EVER, YA KNOW", I exclaim. And we make our way through the gates.>cont.
I've been seeing all these MAJOR TOM threads on /tg/ for about a week now. Can somebody explain everything to be in a bitesize and easy to understand format and possibly link me to any information or things I can download relating to it?
>>31283258Time displaced Skeleton Astronaut that is immortal, but batfuck insane.
>>31283258Astronaut got stuck in space, cosmic radiation'd into a living skeleton, floated with only radio for stimulation, sucked into a wormhole. Comes out in a D&D setting.
>>31283258Threads for your perusal here:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/31236570http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/31246243
>>31283287>>31283306>>31283308Oh, sorry. I thought it was a new system from the opening of the original thread.Yes, I'm up to shape. I was in that thread.Thnaks for reply.
>>31283210The party is confused, but goes on.>MAKING OUR WAY DOWNTOWN, FACES PASS AND I'M HOMEBOUNDThe ranger approaches me and asks if. I may turn the sounds off. Puzzled, I agree, and upon doing so scream "SURE THING, I HATE THAT FUCKING SONG ANYWAYS. WHITE BITCHES, RIGHT?""GROUND CONTROL, MAJOR T-" I stop mid-sentence.All belligerence leaves my character as I stare forward. The party moves on without me for a few yards before realizing. I have stopped. They turn to retrieve me, and the paladin asks "What is it? Have you found a soul to steal, vermin?"I begin to walk."Creature! I speak to you!"I ignore him.He realizes I'm walking towards a small child by herself, who is playing with some rocks."VILLAIN", he cries, "STOP YOUR COURSE!"I ignore him.He charges me, assuming my ill intent towards this child, and he grabs my arm. I continue forward, leaning as far as I can. He is pulling with all of his might, and I reach into a pouch."ALLIES, AID ME!" He yells out, but they ignore him, wanting to see what transpires. And the I remove a small package from my pocket, and reach out towards the girl."HEY, KIDDO." I say.She turns to look, and she eyes us up and down before spotting the package. She ask if it is for her, which I tell her "YES IT IS. I HAVE BEEN SAVING THIS FOR A LONG TIME CHARLY."The paladin lets go, not sure what to think. The small girl opens the pouch, and eats the brightly colored treat. I kneel beside her and watch, talking to her for a long time about my journey and how I have missed her.>cont.
>>31283438The Ranger looks at the odd filmy paper she has lifted from my pockets and sees the image from the last post."Is that his daughter?" Asks the cleric of the elf."I don't believe so", she replies, "however I don't think he knows that..."And the party watches on as this stranded space man talks to this small child and gives her treats. He offers to give her a piggyback ride, which she accepts, and for a moment, the Major is happy again. The party agrees to allow me to carry on, as they simultaneously realize they did not order these feels.Fast forwarding a bit, the child leaves the Major to return home, confused by the whole thing but she doesn't really mind. The Major appears to be content, for he is quiet, except for the low sounds of David Bowie's Space Oddity. The party has agreed to head out and clear out a vampire cave, and recovered me, and we are now heading out.I begin to realize that the elf appears to be somewhat familiar. And this is where the story ends, /tg/. I know, I know, not very combat heavy, but we were short on time for today's game.Thoughts? Comments? Complaints?
>>31283438>>31283579Oh my god, I just realized who the girl and the elf are reminding him of. So saaaad..!
>>31283579Good stuff definitely interested in hearing more when there's more to tell
>>31283438>>31283579i love you Major Tom...
>>31283640Major Tom loves you too.The party still isn't aware of the Wishing Star in my skull.
>>31283579There's not much to say other than "good start". Did you decide to have him respond to Major Tom, or only to other names?
>>31283714They haven't called him anything but "creature" and "thing", and such so far, but he will respond to Major Tom, or Roskosmos as per his name tapes.
Self Bump, so the other /tg/ contributors get a chance to see the fruits of their labor.
>>31283856Such wondrous fruits...
>>31283872Glad you enjoyed it.
>>31283856Glorious! You should definitely give us more when you have more.
>>31283965I shall. Dr. Pogo is set to make an appearance in the next game.
>>31283995>>31283948>>31283856I thought you were going to be gone for much longer after this morning.
>>31284081The last words say "Take Off"?
>>31284105That was the idea, yes.
>>31283579>Thoughts? Comments? Complaints? You are going to update us after every session and right now we are going to compile you more music.
>>31283579>"Is that his daughter?" Asks the cleric of the elf.>"I don't believe so", she replies, "however I don't think he knows that..."nnnooooooo
>>31284203I can already tell Major Tom is going to dieJUST KIDDING THE RIDE NEVER ENDS
>>31284185Sounds good. The next game may be as early as tomorrow, the DM didn't get to use everything he wanted today.
>>31284217Half of his character is the fact that he's unkillable and will throw himself onto traps and danger.
>>31284252Fine, call it self-sacrifice then. It's narrative casuality. Next thing you know he'll be showing everyone the picture of his wife and telling how he was two days away from retirement.
>>31284275>astronaut on a launch mission>retiring in two daysHe's going to retire while in space?
>>31284299He keeps trying to get outBUT THEY JUST KEEP PULLING HIM BACK IN
>>31284299Maybe he was repairing the docking port on the station so they could return home and the trip back takes two days. Then the accident happened.
CAN YOU HEAR ME MAJOR TOM?CAN YOU HEAR ME MAJOR TOM?
I cannot say just how glad I am to see Major Tom get brought to life (so to speak) after two threads of discussion and awesome music! Will your party be doing a lot of traveling, or is this town you're currently visiting the central hub for the campaign? Will Tom be seeing his "Charly" regularly?
>>31284561As I understand it, Charly will be a recurring character. Whether that means we stay local or she travels with us, I have no idea.
>>31284505Presumably not, unless OP has synesthesia.
>>31284621Major, that fills me with such hope and dread that I can't fully express it.
>>31284651Me too, Anon. Me too.I dunno how we'll be going about the elf >>31282711Looking like my wife >>31283579
>>31284679Not sure. I doubt it will be romantic in any way, because that'd probably detract from the serious aspect of the Major. Now, when the story concludes, she may adopt "Charly" on behalf on Tom..?
>>31284081The last word indeed means "take off" in russian, but only in the context of taking off someone's clothes and somesuch. The right word for a spaceship takeoff would be "пуск" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkkLbuzE-oY at the beginning of the video). Also, you could say "поехали" ("let's go" or "let's ride") - the word Yuri Gagarin said at takeoff.
>>31284621You should play Johnny Cash - Hurt when he's interacting with her for more feels.http://youtu.be/SmVAWKfJ4Go
Does the Major have his own 1d4chan article yet? Because I think he deserves one.
>>31284795Excellent, thank you.
>>31284834Thanks for volunteering, Anon.
>>31284834I never did make one, I I wanted to leave that up to /tg/ not me, if someone does, though, I saved a lot of material from the archived thread.
>>31284859>>31284881If I get some time during the week, I'll get on it. If someone could upload all the material into a Mediafire or Dropbox that's be super sweet.
>>31284621Or maybe Maj Tom will find Charly everywhere he goes?
>>31284987Could be, that sort of up plays his insanity, but also downplays Charly as a character, no? If it's the same girl every time, the party will care about her and what happens to her.Can we get a drawfag in here to sketch up Major Tom giving Charly a piggyback ride???
>>31284987The mental image of a Dead-Spaceman walking around giving little girls and unending supply of Astronaut ice cream and piggyback rides makes me so sad and happy at the same time...
>>31285057>>31285057>>31285057Yessss
It's a shame you're not playing pathfinder. There's so much space related goodies in there, especially in Distant Worlds book.
>>31284105I'm pretty sure 'take off' is a Nasa thing. Its the only experience I have to support this, buy chinese space missions usually start with things like "journey start" or "begin travels" or "initiate flight"
>>31285057PLEASE GET SOMEONE ON THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
So glad you're back, Maj. T.
>>31285057I'll do it when its light, if the thread's still here
>>31285135Good to be back, Anon. And I thought /tg/ hated tripcodes
>>31285146How long will that be for you, anon?
>>31285167People like it when its used properly, like for story time.
>>31285146Do you have any samples you could post? No offense, but I have been burned before.
Can Toms only use of the wishing star be making more Astronaut ice-cream for 'Charly'?
>>31285193I'll start in 30min to an hour.
>>31285379He isn't aware of the star, however he does always seem to have a gift for Charly.
>>31282599Could someone link me the previous threads?
>>31285398I am very excited, Anon.
>>31283670>Wishing Star in my skull.Wait, I thought Major Tom was made immortal through weird cosmic radiation? Was he instead wished to life by his wife and daughter through a shooting star and then lost through a trans-dimensional wormhole? Cause that would be pretty awesome as well, imo.
>>31285406I think there should be a random roll chart to see what he has in his pocket for Charly this time. I might make one.
>>31285432First Thread:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/31236570Second Thread:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/31246243
>>31285462I like this. Astronautt themed gifts.
>>31285460I think if I remember from the other thread correctly, the wishing star whizzed into his skull, just as he was wishing he would be able to live or something, so it granted that wish. He will live.
>>31285275Not on digimedia I think. Anon, I'm an amateur, not a pro with a portfolio ready. I'll see what I can turn up.
>>31285460He was drifting in space and it was a wishing star that struck his head and killed him, however it also brought him back when it was bombarded with cosmic radiation.Even if the star were removed, he would go on. (I hope)>>31285462I would love that.
>>31285512>Even if the star were removed, he would go on. (I hope)Oh my god, nonono I hope the BBEG doesn't exploit this and kill Tom.
>>31285534>>31285512>>31285507>>31285502>>31285493Hey guys there's a draw thread up now, we could maybe get multiple Anons on this.>>31284344
>>31285534That could be an excellent way to end a campaign - take the star out and wish for something that saves the party and go out in the blaze of glory.
>>31285636i'll still draw mine but you should get that drawfag to do it . I can't shade on digital for shit
>>31285512working on it now.Anyone have suggestions? I have astronaut ice-cream, space pen, and a teddy bear in a flight suit. I was thinking maybe a signed picture of Commander Chris Hadfield.
>>31285673Tang.
>>31285673Model rocket?
>>31285687>>31285709also added small meteorite.added

>>31285673Commander Chris Hadfield is this guy:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaOC9danxNo
>>31285723Excellent.
>>31285757here's the d10 version, working on a d20 version
- Marvin the Martian doll- Postcards from famous sites on earth- Shiny fragment of a solar panel- Tiny flags from the countries of the world- NASA / Roscosmos / Mission patches
>>31285896Love it.
>>31285899added
>>31285899What about a Pepsi or Coke or what ever in one of those pouches.
>>31285958tang, its already in, carbonated drinks don't work well in space.
>>31285990Fair point. I thought that was a thing, guess not.
ROCKET MAN!BURNING UP HIS FUSE TO GET TO PAGE 0.
alright, I have 19 items, but I want the 20th to be something suitably epic, something that he wouldn't normaly give her, maybe the survival hand gun or a flare gun.
>>31285958>>31285990Bottle caps then! Enough for a checkers board.
>>31286170The last tear he ever shed before his flesh completely melted off. It has been frozen by space and cosmic radiation, and can never me melted. After the first 20, it can change to Player's Choice.
>>31286197sounds great, any special abilities, other than appearing to be an oddly shaped diamond?
>>31286197>high impact feels
>>31285673Surely it'd be 80s stuff.
>>31286225None that I'm aware. Ideas?
wip update of maj tom. will work on feet later, currently look like aborted pterodactyl fetus
>>31286197maybe acts as a wishing star but only for Charly.
>>31286279Awesome so far.
>>31286279Looking good, Anon! Can't wait to see Charly.>>31286284Perhaps.
>>31286279Already, this is looking FANTASTIC! Suggestion: in the girl's outstretched hand is a toy rocket that she is "flying."
>>31286260Perhaps a feeling of melancholy as one looks at the stars, but I think it's better if the last tear remains largely powerless, simply a reminder of what was.
>>31284968>http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Major_TomStarted it for ya, anon. Good luck!
From the draw thread. Kinda meh compared to >>31286279
>>31286359This one is also great.
>>31286284>>31286260>>31286225Maybe in times of trouble it glimmers and glows like a little star, and provides a reassuring feeling, like a worrystone.
>>31286387OR! It functions like Sting, and warns her of danger.
>>31286442>>31286442This
>>31286442Glorious.
Question: Do astronauts and cosmonauts wear dogtags? That would make for a fitting final gift. Or a wedding band on a piece of string. Or a locket with his wife and daughter's pictures inside that has, over the course of Tom's journey, gotten cold-welded shut.
>>31286507>over the course of Tom's journey, gotten cold-welded shut.Oh noooo!
>>31286559>>31286507stuff only cold-welds if there is no oxidized layer on the outside. so the locket should be safe.
Anybody have more skeleton astronaut art? I don't have very much.
>>31286507I love the idea of Tom holding this desperate hope to see his family again despite his insanity, but has there been any talk about his crew mates? I think it would be great if there are subtle allusions to the event that led up to Tom's space accident that include the people he was directly involved with, like maybe apologies or old inside jokes with his crew buddies, etc.
>>31286647Anybody want to write them up? It'd be cool if two of them have mannerisms and behaviors similar to the paladin and cleric from the story.
>>31286279Yes.>>31286359No.
>>31286684paladin should be an american of the 'merca verity.
>>31286684Like a dude who is all business and has more field knowledge then sense?
>>31286731Yes.>>31286729Major Tom was a cosmonaut, do we do a lot of joint ops with each other?
>>31286757not a whole lot, but if Major Tom was on the ISS then it is very possible.
>>31286788So then the paladin is an American, and the cleric is Chinese perhaps? Maybe German?
>>31286442Or it acts as a way to communicate with Charly>GROUND CONTROL, WE HAVE ARRIVED AT AN UNCHARTED SECTOR. PROCEEDING WITH CAUTION.Charly may be able to answer at times, and she could be talking about these events like if it was an imaginary friend for a while.
>>31286684Yeah maybe he had a really rigid and by-the-book kind of Commander that always needed to be lightened up but was dependable and one of those 'stern but fair'-type guys, and Tom might project that onto the paladin? Maybe like, the Commander would be a little distant from the rest of the crew but Tom, being a sort-hearted dude, would try to talk to him and include him in hanging out with the crew whenever they had down-time, like maybe they'd be playing acoustic guitar in zero-gravity and then find out that the Commander knows some great Dylan covers and has a really fantastic but plaintive voice when Tom kind of pressures him to chill with them, and through that the crew sees a different side of the Commander and they're all brought a little closer? This might be analogous in some ways to how the paladin in the party is now very wary of Tom for being a sort of undead, and Tom can slowly reveal how weirdly complex his character is in the same way that he befriended the Commander? Maybe something like that, I dunno.
>>312868142 way radio is already listed though. This diamond tear needs to be really special.

>>31287096dunno, this is the first thread I've seen of Major Tom that I actually payed attention to. I regret ignoring yesterdays piece.

>>31287188Don't thank me, look to the stars tonight and thank Major Tom.
I feel like Major tom could occasionally tell stories about his former colleagues, but the stories are just as off the wall as he is, and he keeps swapping out different facts, like whether he was a cosmonaut or a NASA astronaut, how long he was in space, and especially the circumstances of how he got thrown off the ISS and into deep space.
>>31287477Examples, please?
>>31286279Any progress?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swhAv9VcBWc
>>31287585For instance, he could confuse the plotlines of famous science fiction movies for stories that happened to his companions and him aboard the ISS:"Johnny. You mind if I call you Johnny? No? Good. You ever meet an extraterrestrial Johnny?"
>>31287824Perfect.
>>31287824or go the more "where we're going we won't need eyes to see" route and tell a story about how he got into this world by sacrificing himself to save his crew from an experimental ship they were investigating.
From the draw thread!
>>31288064Adorable!
>>31288064Aw.
>>31286284The "Charly Chart".
>>31287667sorry, working on Charly now. breakfast called.
>>31288292No worries!
Did we decide on what the tear-shaped diamond did? I know we've been considering it the ultimate/final gift for "Charly" to receive from Major Tom, but I wasn't sure if we managed to nail down what special power or ability it granted her.
>>31288326This sounds good >>31286442
>>31288326I think it either glowing when danger was near, or giving off a soothing presence when stressed were the top ideas.
>>31288326Might be a good idea to ad-lib it based on what is then thematically appropriate, in a "what is the lesson of the day" manner.
>>31288364Probably the smartest idea. Just the fact that it's a teardrop diamond and is Significant will be enough, in the moment of gifting, to make it work.
Back from the draw thread again!
>>31288480That's fuckin' rad.
>>31288480This picture is equal parts strange and heartwarming, which is absolutely perfect, because Major Tom himself is equal parts strange and heartwarming.
I'm proud to say that I was here to behold Major Tom... as he fell from heaven... to the sound of RIDE THE LIGHTNING!
>>31288613WE CAME HERE TO WITNESS THE MAJOR.
>>31286507>>31288326This might be a stupid idea, but what if those last tears pooled around the Major's locket, so you've got a locket frozen in diamond?
So what's this whole Major Tom thing about?'Cus I had a Mutants & Masterminds character named Major Tom and he was pretty fun to play.
>>31288836I like that. I like that a lot.
>>31288847Did you post about him in a thread a few days ago?If so, you gave me inspiration for >>31285478(The first thread)Thank you so much.
>>31288847Mighta been based off your character, actually. I think OP said he had inspiration from another character.Short version: cosmonaut adrift in space for hundreds of years after magic radiation turned him into an immortal skeleton, after several hundred years crashes into a D&D setting with a radio constantly playing music and a nonexistent degree of sanity.
>>31288879>RomFucking iPad.
>>31288836that is an amazing idea. I approve. additionally, the tears should not melt until Major tom has died a permanent death. at which point Charly will be able to open the locket and see a picture of a girl that looks strikingly like her alongside a picture of another woman that looks like she could be her mother.
my effort. Anons are encouraged to reshade Charly, since my job sucks dick. probs should've stayed with linework. I'll re-do Charly as linework when I have the time, but probably not during thsi thread.
>>31288879>>31288882Maybe? My character was an American astronaut who got lost during the Space Race in the Fifties, then ended up landing on Earth sixty years later and being recruited by our world's version of S.H.I.E.L.D. If that was the story that inspired you then yeah, that was my dude.>immortal skeleton astronaut whose body was used as a trigger for traps, or a human shield, or even as a stoppage to a BBEG's war machine system.Ah, yep! That was my Major Tom. He was pretty awesome. One time he jammed his body into the rotor of a Blackhawk helicopter being piloted by an evil robot version of the Pittsburgh Pirates mascot and made it crash. Our game was very... Silver Age.
>>31289003You are he who gave me the idea, indeed! Thank you Anon, this version of Major Tom has been a blast.
>>31289021No problem! I'm glad you enjoy playing him.
>>31288970Tom looks great, but isn't Charly a redhead?
>>31288970Still pretty damn good, anon.
>>31289049not mentioned in OP's recount. But I do think she looks better as a redhead.
>>31288970It's looking great!
>>31289098See >>31283438
>>31289129Fuck. I'll redo it later
>>31289129>>31289242Hm. So her mom had blonde hair? Not to be a stick in the mud Who am I kidding that's exactly what I'm trying to be but isn't red hair a recessive gene? Meaning both parents would have had to have red hair for her to have it?
>>31289340No, both would have had to have an allele for it. It's entirely possible both parents were heterozygous, having non-red hair. You're probably thinking of dominant inheritance.
>>31289402blond hair is also a recessive trait though. so even if Major Tom had red hair Charly couldn't have had red hair.
>>31289420That's not really the case, though, unless red is even more recessive. If they both have traits that are recessive, either could be present in the child's phenotype because neither would be dominantly expressed.
>>31289420As I understand, red hair is recessive to every normal hair color (dominance/recessive is not absolute, it is relative to other alleles), so you can have heterozygotes of any hair color with a recessive red hair allele.
>>31289402That makes sense. It's been... 8 years since I was in any kind of biology class so I guess I'm a bit rusty on those details.
>>31289475You are correct, anon. Major Tom's wife would have also had to have the red hair recessive allele.
>>31289435>>31289420>>31289402>>31289340>>31289475>>31289488never change /tg/>austryea fineDamn right australia is fine, captcha, damn straight.
>>31289488Most of what I remember from my genetics course is "it's actually really freaking complicated". It also left me with a deep, deep hatred of people who try to say "well, is the magic gene in setting X dominant or recessive?", because it's grossly oversimplifying how genetics usually works.Plus, in most settings, magic either means more babies (I am wizard king, behold!) or fewer babies (Burn the witch!), which would quickly lead to fixation of either magic or no magic. Much more complicated explanations are thusly required, often such as "big complex of genes; leads to increased infant mortality, particularly if the mother lacks the complex".
>>31289562Yeah, genetics is actually pretty complicated.A basic Punnett square rationalization still keeps the idea that a blond person can't have non-blond kids from being true though
>>31289588Simple explanation for Maj. Tom, then:Charly (2014) is adopted, much in the way he is adopting Charly (Middle Ages).
>>31289588Well what if you have a blond-redhead genotype? Then, you could have a red-haired child if the other parent has a red hair allele. There might also be rare weirdnesses which prevent the ordinary hair color inheritance scheme from working right.
>>31289615>>31289619What I'm saying is that that's totally possible because red hair is recessive enough that you could have a BlR genotype which combined with a RR genotype on a punnett square would give a 50% or so chance of a redheaded kid.
>>31289653What I'm saying is it's a fantasy game with an undead cosmonaut, and we're hung up discussing his daughter's hair color.
>>31289653Read too quickly. You're right, the Punnett square is as follows (A is a stand-in for any hair color). A rBl ABl Blrr Ar rr
>>31289671I don't see what's wrong with that.
>>31288577>>31288607Thanks anons. No shit, the song Space Oddity causes me to tear up evertim
>>31289615that would make it seem much cuter, and well I kinda like the idea.

>>31290867That part made my stomach drop.
yo im gonna go to sleep but i wanted to post this up before i doim still working on it but i really dig major tom a lotill post again tomorrow when i clean it up some more
>>31291762That's awesome.
>>31288480>>31288064I can't help but laugh, because Tom's face is the perfect "I've seen some shit" look. Which is perfect.
>>31293489He's very expressive for a skull.
Can someone give me the tl;dr for this guy? I mean, I've read the couple posted ITT, but he seems to much deeper than that.
>>31293710An Astronaut/Cosmonaut is knocked out of his ship, he drifts for a while, like, 382 years, over these years he collected some interesting things (a wishing star caught in his skull, a mace made from space debris, several interesting rocks)He drifted into a wormhole and appeared over the planet of Dungeon-and-dragon land, and was caught in orbit.eventualy he is knocked down in a meteor storm just in time to help his current party defeat the enemy of the week.It should be noted that Tom is an immortal skeleton being bombarded by a shuffle playlist of all music ever and so many split personalities that we may all be just a part of his mind.He is also haunted by the ghost of everyone to die in space, but mainly one monkey.
>>31290002One thing to consider is that Major Tom is immortal.Does this mean that his mental image of Charly is that of a young girl of a certain physique? Meaning if she looses her and her appearance changes Maj. Tom will find another Charly, and will name her thus. The nice thing would be that if a previous Charly meets Maj.Tom she can make him remember if she says something relevant to what they did together and he will act up all confused about stuff. Thus turning Maj. Tom over the aeons into a folktale or fairytale. With moral or dark notes as they are and heavily misunderstood assumptions
I can only hope Tom gets one moment of total clarity some point.Maybe when the locket finally opens he realizes he was at Charly's wedding, and as the radio begins to retune and he returns to that messed up stream of consciousness he repeats; "it's ok, you're all grown up now".The last thing he told her as he set for the stars.
>>31293905And a dog. Do not forget Laika. She can bark like mad when pissed off.Actually its one of the reason the Cosmonaut never fails spot and listen checks. When he is in cazy Russian cosmonaut mode. In other modes he can ignore Laika.
>>31283210>Neanderthal Soviet Cosmonautwhat
Are we still looking for good Major Tom songs?Message in a bottle - the policehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbXWrmQW-OELucy in the sky with diamonds - the Beetleshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqXmBy1_qOQIf toms wife has no name yet then Lucy might be a good one to go with.
So basically, OP created an overpowered PC that disrupts the game, the other players don't know how to act or play around him, whose entire shtick is being lolrandumb and immortal? Sounds like a classical case of That Guy. But of course, because OP decided to play a skeleton astronaut instead of a kender rogue, all is forgiven. In b4 raving rants about how I "hate fun".
>>31295043The thing is anon, that he ran it past his DM first, they decided on a set of rules to keep him from being lolrandumb.also he apparently has shit stats, he's more of a plot character than anything else from what we've heard so far.
>>31295043How does he disrupts the game? I mean yeah, he can disarms traps and stuff, and wave a mace around. But that's pretty much it.And I'm pretty sure that if the GM isn't a total fuckwad, if Major Tom gets "killed" in a fight, he won't respawn before said fight is finished.
>>31295043So long as he RP's properly and isn't a dick about it, then he isn't That Guy.
>>31295043You're right in part, in that this character could very well be an overpowered, LOL-SO-RANDOM "That Guy" within his party. However, from everything that the player himself has told us and everything we've been working to do in these threads:1. Major Tom's abilities and randomness have been carefully sussed out with the GM before hand to avoid becoming a chaotic-stupid damage machine.2. The character's evolved from a completely psychotic Space Deadpool to a more unhinged, heartfelt fish out of water sort of hero with a tragic past.3. The other players seem to be invested, or at least unbothered in the inclusion of the skeletal cosmonaut in their game.
>>31291762Friend, this is absolutely fantastic, and I want to thank you for posting it here. You've put a lot of great little details into Tom's battered spacesuit and Charly's raggedy peasant's garb, and your art style is really friendly and engaging. I can't wait to see what else you do with it!
Power's back on, ladies and gentlemen.I see I haven't missed too much.>>31295359I'm really hoping he comes back, I saved all of the art ITT.
>>31295087>>31295102>>31295124>>31295294Thanks, gents.
>>31295422Glad to see radio contact has been restored Major. Welcome back.I don't know what it is, but the image of a little medieval peasant child riding around on a skeletal cosmonaut's shoulders is so strange and so heartwarming and so sad all at once that it's really evoking something in the folks monitoring these threads. Also, I would have never thought up the idea for Charly to be wearing Tom's helmet, but it just works so well in this picture that I can't help but think it perfect. They both just look so happy, don't they?
>>31295450And I hope they are. I'm really banking in my DM using Charly as a valuable NPC that becomes a staple of the party. You could feel everyone's heart tug at the 'reveal' in the game session. The elf's player actually shed a tear.

>>31296098Ideally, I believe that we're trying to balance both outrageous comedy and touching pathos. Right now though, the nature of a man and his daughter, or a skeleton and the girl that is not his daughter, are being explored. Things may have gotten a bit heavy for a while, but surely there's still plenty of room for hilarity to be had.
>>31296142Most of the comedy will come from well timed Pandora radio and dialogue. The feels are coming from the more subtle character aspects, I think.
>>31296124Nah, I'm just gonna curl up in a ball in a corner and sob a little.>>31296142I know, I know. I just really didn't expect the touching part. Seriously, I normally don't feel, I was taken by surprise. Hence my burst.

There's his original daughter, who may even as we type be training to be a cosmonaut to go in search of her father, and there's "Charly," who we've been calling by the same name out of convenience, who may be adopted by the party and raised up to be a ranger by the Elf, should fate and GM fiat allow. What I was just pondering is, what if fantasy world "Charly," head filled with Major Tom's stories about space and supplied with whatever manuals, tools, and Star Magic left to her by her adoptive father figure, decides that she wants to be an astronaut herself?I just like the idea of someone in a fantasy world deciding that it's their life's dream to go to space and doing everything in their power to get there. And who knows? Maybe the two Charlys would meet some day.

Fate has ordained that the men who went to the Moon to explore in peace will stay on the Moon to rest in peace. These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice. These two men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding. They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown. In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.Others will follow, and surely find their way home. Man's search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts. For every human being who looks up at the Moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.— In the event of Moon disaster, a speech drafted by William Safire for President Richard M.
