Vance notices you tuck your badges away. He gives you a look, but says nothing.

There’s someone coming onto the road up ahead. It's Eddie! You recognize his green cap from far away. He's walking with his Leafeon by his side. You remember that battle on the ship, it was a great learning experience. It's also where Vlad evolved into a Golbat.

Eddie runs over.

"Woah! Three hotties now!" Eddie's mouth is still faster than his brain. Still, as much as you play up your sexuality sometimes, you're not that used to compliments of any kind. You decide that Eddie has good taste for a twerp.

"And Kat too!" Jeanine adds. You can tell by her tone that it's just friendly banter. You still make a silent promise to get her back though. She just issued a challenge, even if it's a friendly one. "Another fan of yours?"

They shake hands.

Eddie shows off his fifth badge. "I just got this one from the Clairborough gym. It took me three tries." He covers his mouth after saying that last sentence.

Eddie reacts exactly like a little kid would. "Oh yeah! Big talk from someone who only had one badge before! How many do you have now?" Thankfully, he doesn't wait for an answer. "You looking to start a battle?"

You do your best to act confident. You beat him before, but he only had three badges then. "As long as you don't want two rematches in a row when I beat you."

"You got lucky last time. I've been getting in a lot of practice!" He echoes your fears.

Maybe you're just worrying too much. You always get this way before a battle. You know what? Not this time. You're a trainer! You force yourself to feel as cocky as you act. You can beat him again.

"So how many Pokemon do you want me to knock out?" Eddie acts just as confident. "I have three that are ready to go."

Levi has minor damage from the Pidgeys, but she's tough. Zappy Dan has some minor damage too, but his bigger problem is he's having trouble controlling his new body. Destiny might be a little tired from training late last night, but that shouldn't be a problem unless the match goes a long time. Everyone else is in perfect shape.

There's a nearby pond by some flat ground that you just passed. It looks shallow and calm. It's a good place for you to battle.

You quickly go over what you remember. He had a Clefairy that used Double Team and Charge Beam, a Leafeon that could take a hit, and he caught a Gyarados last time you saw him. He also had other Pokeballs at his belt last time too though.

A shiny protective forcefield forms around Clefable, then quick fades. You still think it's there though. You've been concentrating on abilities lately, you're not as familiar with less popular moves. It must have been some sort of defensive move though.

Your mind scrambles to remember your strategy last time. You remember using confusion and paralyzing moves a lot.

You're brought out of your concentration for just a second. It hits you that you're really starting to feel like a trainer. Every battle brings you closer to that feeling. It's addicting.

"Nibbles, use Dragon Dance! Remember what Levi and I taught you!" Nibbles hesitates for a second and looks back to you. You put your left foot down in the starting position to remind him. He turns around and starts the movements.

Yes! He's doing it! He's a little slow and he stumbles a bit, but he does it! He beams with pride as he does the last movement.

"Get him! Stomp!"

Nibbles moves fast. You see a primal look in his eyes as he charges his target, mouth open and teeth bared. Is he going to bite? You're about yell out to make sure he heard you.

Nibbles doesn't need it though. With his increased speed he spins around before landing the Bite, and instead thrusts his leg backwards, hitting Clefable right in the middle. It's a powerful blow that knocks the wind out of the large pink puff. It nearly makes Clefable double over.

It's a strong Pokemon though. Clefable takes it's hands off it's stomach and stands tall. It's a fully evolved Pokemon, you think, so it's not surprising that it would be able to take a blow like that without fainting. Clefable still looks surprised at how hard it hit though.

Eddie winces when he sees the blow. "Calm Mind! Hang in there! We're almost ready!" Clefable doesn't strike out. Instead it breathes in and closes it's eyes. You see something happen to it, like he's growing more powerful.

The sunlight is still strong.

"Calm Mind, one more time!" Eddie yells out. He has a lot of faith in Clefable's defense. "Try to keep away. We just need a little longer, then we'll take this entire match!" He looks up at the sunlight.

You're going to mess with his plans. "Roar!" Clefable tries to hold it's ground, but you see fear in it's eyes as it goes back to it's Pokeball.

Eddie looks upset. "No! I just needed a few more seconds!"

A new Pokemon appears. You were expecting Leafeon maybe, but not this. A colossal Gyarados stares down at Nibbles. It looks on the Tyrunt in an even more fearsome way than Levi did when they first met. The look fades when the shadow of a rock covers it's face. Rocks from all over slam into the Gyarados, hitting it surprisingly hard. Now it's angry.

Eddie looks unsure about this turn of events. You don't think this is a Pokemon he meant to use. He puts on a cocky show. "You forced my hand! Behold, my secret weapon!" He takes a step back as he gestures.

The sunlight is strong still, but you feel like it's just about to fade out.

Does he have control of that thing?

Nibbles looks unfazed. Maybe he thinks it's friendly, like Levi was to him.

Eddie's eyes keep going between his Gyarados and the Stealth Rocks on the field. He can't seem to make up his mind. "I just needed a few more seconds," he mutters. He closes his eyes and breaths. "It doesn't matter. You can't beat us! Let's work together Gyarados!" Eddie is back to acting cocky again.

The Gyarados looks like it's about to do it's version of a chuckle. It's mad from the stealth rock, but not taking this fight seriously. It's strange how it looks and even acts almost exactly like Levi, but you could easily tell them apart if they were next to each other.

It's a tempting thought to make that happen, but you have a different idea instead.

You hear yourself yell it. "Charm!" If there were ever a time to use it, it's now.

Nibbles goes from looking like a small but vicious predator to an adorable little guy you just want to cuddle. He looks up endearingly at the Gyarados. It looks like a more exagerated look that it would give Leviathan when you were training them together. He must look up to Levi a little.

The Gyarados looks disarmed by move. It stares down at Nibbles like he can't believe what he's seeing. It should be fearing him! He almost looks like he's endeared by Nibbles' obliviousness. Almost.

"Aqua tail!" Eddie shouts. He looks nervous.

Gyarados uncoils it's tail and huffs out a sigh. A watery covering envelopes the tail as it casually swings around and smacks Nibbles, sending him flying.

"Nibbles!" You see him skids across the ground. Gyarados doesn't pay any attention and instead wanders over to the pond, like he's considering going for a dip.

Nibbles gets up! He looks pretty hurt, but also determined. You see the primal beast he was cloned from. King of his domain. Gyarados isn't even looking at him.
