You took your time to consider the offer and savour your tea. Kaoru had not explicitly stated what she needed you for, and you were not nearly stupid enough to accept right there and then.

“What exactly do you need me for though?” you asked.

Kaoru smiled at your response. Perhaps she was expecting the question.

“I would like you to help direct our efforts,” Kaoru slipped back in to Punjabi, “I was told that you have a knack for navigating in areas where you should not be.”

“How did you find out?” you ask as you ignored Asuka’s deepening frown, “And do I have to hold your hand through it?”

“Torikov, I am Judgement and unlike some you may know I actually walk the beat. The rest is simply keeping an ear out, though in this case you were recommended for the task,” she answered, “As for your task, you will not be accompanying us. Given your injuries and the source of them, I think you’d best serve as a planner and manager. Both of which are roles that can be fulfilled remotely. I will, of course, divulge further details upon your acceptance.”

So it sounded like she wanted to break in to somewhere and she needed your help with navigating and mission control. It was enough to know that you could be safely sitting in your room to do this job. There of course remained a catch but with Kaoru fulfilling the unspoken “reasonableness” quota, you don’t think you’d be able to find out more.

well there's also the issue of will she believe us when we tell her vampires are real and not think that we're trying telling her to butt out by telling her dumb lies. But yeah I feel the longer we keeps this all secret from her the more problems it will cause than prevent. Specially if she serious about nursing us back to health through this endeavor.

Is Asuka aware of magic yet?
She has to at least think it's strange we know Punjabi.

We won't be able to have cute nursing antics unless we are straight with her.

I don't think she even know her sword is magic, and I imagine that the Punjabi thing will come up and we better have a good explanation. Even if we do decide to tell her about magic and stuff we'll need more than "It was magic"

We might get more actually if we keep it all a secret as she takes care of us while she tries to squeeze info out of us at the same time. Bandages get put on to tight or in placed more inconveniently, eat too many pain killers, offers to give massage but is a bit too rough, etc.

“I’m in,” was your reply.

“Splendid,” Kaoru switched back to Japanese, “Sivan shall give you further details once you get home.”

“I would assume that there is some, and I quote, ‘fighting to be had,’ otherwise you would not be pursuing this course of action,” Asuka started, “If so I would like to accompany you.”

“Actually I gave him a desk job,” Kaoru answered, “A safe one very far away from life-threatening danger.”

“Then I suppose I should only feel mild disappointment then,” Asuka turned back to her tea, “Well do not let me keep you from discussing your dubious endeavours.”

“Actually, our business is concluded,” Kaoru got up, “Have a good day.”

Stiyl left silently with Kaoru. This left you alone with Asuka and you wonder about the necessity of hiding magic from her. She could easily rip the secrets from you without but a few words but so far has not. You weren’t sure if she trusted you, knew the value of discretion or otherwise. Then again, how were you going to explain the existence of magic from her? A lot of the effects you’ve experienced could be replicated by mundane or scientific means. In fact, if you thought about it, she rationalised away the peculiarities of The Dean in such a way.

“I am curious,” she broke you out of your thoughts, “What exactly was that language you were speaking in and where did you learn it?”

I can get behind that I think. No reason hide it, but she kinda witnessed it and if she really stays for a long haul she'll be seeing a lot more it. She'll have to ask eventually and will be more open to the idea when she does.

“Would you believe me if I told you it was magic?” you asked.

She only continues staring and she was not amused.

“Alright, it’s Punjabi,” you tried again, “Apparently I pick up foreign languages like magic.”

“Well it would certainly explain how you knew Russian despite being raised in Academy City since you were a child,” Asuka relented, “If you really wish to not tell me then you could have just said so.”

Well you’re not sure what you could say to convince her, at least not in public anyway.

“I’ll keep your words in mind then,” she finally said, “Now on to other matters. Your doctor has prescribed plenty of bed rest and I intend for you to get it.”

“Well I won’t argue with that.”

“I am glad that you will not. There is nothing scarier than a person who knows exactly how the human body works and how to destroy it,” she started wheeling you out, “I shall not award points for correctly guessing my future career path.”

Asuka may have said that she intended for you to get some rest but there’s no reason you couldn’t head out somewhere. Apart from going home the only other places to visit were either the junkyard or Cypress Park. The former was because it might be a good idea to give your boss a heads up. The latter because Mum was worried enough about you to send Sagara.
