Is what I enjoy immensely, for different but loosely related reasons I enjoy tabletop.However, I would never compare the two any more than I'd compare apples and oranges.

I usually don't adopt a trip, but this time I've got a story to tell and I have a feeling it's going to be an awfully long one. It is a tale of love, action, cringe-worthy horror, and autism. It is the story of a man's adventure into the world of online play-by-post free form roleplaying. It is a story of Andrew Jackson and his Jihad. Sometimes, armies will enter battle with almost no straps, belts or fasteners; just their mail and helmet.I know it's fantasy, but come on now. The boots don't need the buckles, the cuirass doesn't need the buckles, and the belt doesn't need it's own belts to stay on the body. There are other ways to draw a generic "battle-hardened vagabond". Just about anything is better than this, though.

I used to play on RP forums a lot in my teens, and I can say with absolute conviction that the only good freeform is one you do with trusted friends. Even then, that's not surefire.Some freeforms are wide open, allowing anyone to post bios and join up in any thread. This is a terrible idea almost universally, because without a screening process you're opening yourself up to somebody charging into a scene, fucking it up beyond repair, and then hordes of players refusing to 'retcon' anything. Random douchebags can poison a plot or a scene irreparably, and most freeformers refuse to deny someone from playing with them until they've had several chances to do so already.Other freeforms do have a loose screening process, and some of those can be passable - as long as those doing the screening aren't terrible in some way. A lot of application-based freeforms are staffed by idiots who harbour personality cults and will refuse you for personal reasons rather than reasons of quality. Of course, this is true of the un-gated freeforms as well, but you don't need to work to get into them.Without a system, all freeforms will develop cliques that gain social power in order to hold sway over the events of the gameworld, whether or not they know they are doing it. The game has no rules, so the only way to establish power is to be among the "in-crowd" who will stroke your ego and fight your battles for you, ensuring that you never go without interactions the second you want them. Anyone else is left in the dust unless they can snag like some sort of parasite onto one of these groups as well.I have not participated in a single public freeform that was worth the time. Even the ones that claim to be 'better' than the others are exactly the same, just with a veneer of smug superiority. The only thing freeform is good for is amusing yourself with terrible roleplayers and maybe convincing some of them to actually get better, if you've got the stomach.

Thread bump right here, because this raid promises to be pretty awesome. Also, I came up with an idea for a character power, and wanted to share it. It's basically the creation of portals to other places, but the near end can be created pretty much anywhere within an area around the character, whilst the far end can be just about anywhere in the universe, including other points in time. The portals themselves are indestructible due to being present as an alteration of space rather than being their own physical objects, have edges that are functionally infinitely sharp due to the same, and infinite amounts of them can be created, so long as there's enough space to make them. The character themselves would start off as a pretty basic transportational support, then get more and more powerful as s/he figures out how to use their power - starting at using them as unblockable knives, then moving up to invincible chainmail/platemail that, for instance, also blocks mind control because spacey bullshit, then figuring out how to make them appear near stuff like stars and black holes, and then overlapping two or more portals to produce space-time glitches that do something or other. I dunno, "erasing people from existence" sounds pretty good for something like that. This would culminate when the character turns themself into a permanent portal to any location in history and/or existence, basically becoming an immortal, ageless, invincible being a la one of Homestuck's First Guardians. Going through Iwaku, and I find this gem in an FMA RP:Appearance: Johnathan stands about 6'5", and weighs a hefty 328lbs. His hair is jet black, styled and slick, and he constantly wears sunglasses.
