Now you are Ambrosius, a cleric in a cart traveling to Big Apple. A few hours ago, when this all began things, looked like they were going so well. You had a cart, a plan, and a bag full of potions. Now the monotony of the Mojave desert landscape is beginning to tear at your mind. Bushes, road, and sandy dirt. Every so often you saw a tree. Despite the rarity, the trees did little to rekindle your excitement. With Canis driving now, you have the luxury of turning around. When you do, you see everyone else looking just as bored as you do. Certainly there is something to do, but what?Your line of thought is broken by Canis asking, “Alright. I'm hungry. Hand me some food.” He holds his hand out to you, but keeps his eyes on the road. You open your inventory only to realize the horrible truth that you completely forgot to get food.
>>31525525Couple things that I thought about after the second thread.Check how much the gate lever went down, depending on the amount we may not need to go to the south.Check with other guild memebers/friends that have people on their friend list who are in the south american server so that we can make sure that we can coordinate the reactivation of the gates.Figure out if party/guild/raid telepathy works between servers, just because friend telepathy doesn't work over servers does not exclude other forms.Oh, by the way, does anyone else think that pretty soon we will have some sort of border town start up between the North and South American servers?
What will happen? Will you starve to death? Can you starve to death? You start to panic. How could you tell Canis that you forgot the food!?That is when Lilac pulls a loaf of bread out of her bag and places it into Canis' extended palm. The Wolf-Hair then begins to munch on the bread. “Not much of a taste” he comments. You look stare at Lilac for a short while. She returns your gaze. “Want some too?”You can't think of anything else to do so you nod.She hands you a loaf of bread. You tear a piece off and pop it in your mouth. There doesn't seem to be any taste at all, just a slight texture. It is better than nothing, is what you tell yourself, but looking down at the bread, you quickly lose your appetite.Minutes pass and the tyrannical boredom returns. This is a flow chart on how these things will work. For the sake of simplicity we will skip the Formation Stage for this fight.Things will look really complicated, so I'll talk everyone through everything for this fight. If this system becomes a disaster I'll just scrap it.
>>31527101Ok so... what now?
>>31527101So we can't really change what we're doing after the formation stage? Or does the rolling stage include choosing what action we do?
>>31527101That combat system looks like it will make battles take way too long boss. How about you have people automatically drink potions as a free action and without needing to be asked or told.
>>31527101This is what a battlefield looks like. You'll notice that each card does something on a roll of 1-12. That's because you are going to be rolling a 1d12 to determine what happens. The roll counts for both the Party Members and the Enemy, so knowing what squares the enemy attacks on what roll is important.
>>31527226Okay, so, now I need three people to roll 1d12 and we'll continue from there. Narrative being written in a moment.
Rolled 4>>31527267this seems a bit complex... your cards are nice though.
Rolled 11>>31527267nat 1 inc? It is pretty complicated.
Rolled 3>>31527267
Rolled 6>>31527267I wouldn't say complex, but I'm afraid if there are too many steps the battles will drag out. Like the original system though with the cards.
>>31527293>>31527324>>31527332Pretty solid start.Just having the monster with abilities as a card and us having a set of cards and a total health and armor might be a better idea.Or just going completely free form like a lot of other quests.
>>31527267Canis begins to veer off the road to avoid the creature, but you shake your head. "No." You say, "We must end the madness."He looks at you with a bit of concern in his eyes. You smile, "If we don't fight it, we'll all die of madness."Somewhere in the background Takeshi continued to rant about the samurai code and how it pertains to cannibalism and the heart of the cards.Canis drives the cart forward. You laugh hysterically and yell "Combat's starting! Everyone get ready!"=========================>>31527293First roll is a 4, which is the Cactus Man attacking the Front Center slot (Trove) for 4 damage, but due to Trove's armor, the damage is reduced to 1. The 4 also activates Judicature's Back Seat Tank ability. The target is already Trove so that doesn't change anything, but does an additional 2 damage. With the 6 damage from the basic attacks, this brings the damage up to 8.
>>31527332>>31527367I'm pretty impressed that you managed to roll the same on two different dice. Of different sizes none the less.
>>31527444The dice gods are real my friend. And they watch.
>>31527430I know we're in tutorial mode, but you might want to try and be a little more descriptive with your combat scenarios so they don't become a chore.
>>31527293>>31527324>>31527335Everyone leaps out of the cart and falls into formation almost naturally. Trove pulls out a flintlock and fires upon the beast, taunting it. In response, Judicature unleashes a barrage of knives. You didn't even know there was a ranged spec for duelist. The Cactus Man begins shaking back and forth. "Everyone get back!" Lilac commands. Since when did she become party leader?"I'm over here, you bilge rat!" Trove yells out, "Yarr harr!" With another shot from his pistol, the storm of needles goes raining on Trove, who had run far from the group. Trove simply smiled as all the tiny bits of damage bounced off of his armor. The cactus went running up to the Pirate, unleashing a backhanded slap upon him. "Is that all you go, you powder monkey!?" Very minimal damage to the pirate. With the creature distracted, Lilac raises her staff to the sky. "THUNDER BOLT!" A decent amount of damage. Canis shouts, "I'm buffin' damage!">>31527732"Arr! That's a bad idea! I'm still reloadin' me gun!" Trove comments, "I can't be doin' nothin while I'm-""BANZAAAAAAAI!" Takeshi yells, holding his massive no-dachi above his head, "EXECUTE!" The blade comes down, the amount of damage it does is amazing, but the fact that the creature then turns to Takeshi is less amazing. It slaps him across the face, dealing its own massive damage.>>31527744The cactus then begins to shake back and forth again. "Yarr! Me taunt's still on cooldown!" The needles go everywhere. The needles can't pierce your armor, but everyone else is being pelted with damage. Judicature shoves Lilac out of the area of the attack, taking the damage for her.You smack the Cactus Man one last time and it slams into the ground before bursting into bubbles, gold, a mana potion, and a cactus fruit.Brilliant light surrounds Lilac. For that single fight she seems to have leveled twice.

You are not sure if you should dislike this girl or not. "Alright, let's set up camp before it gets dark!" There are some fan theories that say he grew jealous and angry at people because the gods loved them but not him. Others say the heart of the First Man corrupted him into a murderous creature."You think for a moment, "What do you believe?"Lilac pulls a teacup out of her bag and begins sipping it. She mumbles something behind her cup, but you didn't hear it."What was that?" You ask.She looks away from you and mumbles again."Still didn't hear you.""That Coyote and the First Man" mumble mumble mumble, "And not Coyote is angry at the world."You open your mouth to question once again, but then you get a call, from your brother no less.[cont] Sorry for this is taking so long.

They are best described as being like the Illuminati, but different. They were founded by a mysterious character who is called 'the Man In Black,' although in the lore he is simply referred to as a man in black clothing. He is more or less responsible for the majority of events that happen in the north eastern region of the US server. He can be found in game is the Grand Library in Big Apple, but only after going through several steps, however one cannot interact with him. It is theorized that he is the 'final boss,' as it were, of the East Coast.""Okay. Sounds terrifying. Phone-you! Go!""Okay, so the Man In Black is like Cthulhu if he ran the Illuminati. He controls these guys called the Luxians who do this crazy, 'If we can control the market, we can blah blah blah' kinda shit. Pretty much every Halloween they jack up the prices and we run around undoing his stupid ass plan, then he appears, kills everyone and disappears. He's supposed to be able to plan for anything but Adventurers just keep kicking his shit in, so I'm not that worried. Also, when he kills you you don't lose any xp, so it's like a free warp out of the instance. Anyway, so there I am, touching all the books, going up the stairs backwards and everything, but when I look through the window he's not there. Think they finally gave him his own raid or something? They probably did cause the Halloween events were getting really repetitive.""Okay, well, that's less terrifying.""Oh, so..." Your brother goes on, "Have you met my guild leader?""Can't say I have." Describe the environment, the characters, don't be afraid to be a little floral with your language.Your combat writing... leaves a lot to be desired; check out combat heavy quests like the all but dead Bleach Quest for some ideas I guess. >>31532191>>31532235>streamline the combatI'm not sure how to streamline it further. As of right now, you roll a d12 and that's the entire round of combat, but I will agree that it feels pretty complicated and I'm doing a terrible job of explaining it.I'm just not sure how I can both represent having all the different abilities a class has and at the same time prevent arguments like..>Using face-kicking style.I thought we were past being scrubs.>Implying face-kicking style is bad.Your views on objective merits are bad, and you should have a generally negative outlook on yourself.etc, etc.I want a system that is hands on enough to feel like the players have actual options, but hands off enough that there isn't a million votes of what to do at every turn, and yet strategic enough to reward clever tactics. What parts do you think are too confusing/need to be just dropped? Is there any part in particular or does the entire system just give the wrong feeling? I really do not mind going back to the drawing board if it means a higher quality of quest.
>>31532537The placement mechanics where thankfully dropped right off the bat.I like the card concept a lot especially if we can upgrade and switch cards out when we get new gear or teammates. As far as how to accomplish your goals to make things, simple, highly strategic. and hands off... the only way I've seen that done in quests is to give the players free reign and have them write out what spells and actions they should take. But they you'e having to make and balance dozens of abilities or preventing your readers from controlling the team as a whole. When it boils down to it; think of how to simplify the explanation of how the mechanics work, but be more fluid in your descriptions. Right now it sounds like a play-by-play of a card game. This works for the demo which our first combat was, but don't be afraid to expand on the combat scenes you write and really paint a picture.
>>31532537Is 8 supposed to skip a turn in combat? You have 9 listed twice. It would be easier to remember if a character's rolls were grouped together, since you seem to be going for 2 numbers each.but really this system seems drawn out and gives us no room for input beyond rolling dice
>>31532537I personally like it. The 'Roll some die and watch the chaos unfold' is a nice and quick way that avoids the problems that most quest have.
Archived.>>31532705Ya; it feels a bit drawn out. Adding places where we have control like: "Takashi is currently being surrounded by a hoard of rat women amazons and he's a little too into being face stabbed, if this keeps up he'll probably die.">watch and laugh>cast healing spell>rush in just like he'd want you to>write inon the other hand I DO really like the cards...
>>31532537I like the idea of the card combat thing, it's an unusual take on combat in quests but I think it has potential.I do think >>31532748 is a good idea though, hopping back into narrative mode to make decisions at critical moments will prevent it from becoming CARDS DICE CARDS DICE OH GOD IT'S TOO ABSTRACT.
>>31532705>but really this system seems drawn out and gives us no room for input beyond rolling diceWe skipped the Formation Stage, where the players would normally be able to change the formation of the party. You'll also later get to swap out effects on cards, but I was going to hold off on that until I was sure that we would use the system. For example, Lilac would spend her skill points to upgrade Thunder Bolt and increase the spread, so it would work on 3, 10, and 7 OR she could use it to unlock a new spell like Chain Lightning, which works on a 3 and deals 3 damage, but triples damage against enemies with the Group sub-type.>>31532681>expand on the combat scenesYou made me think of something that might throw even more complication into the mix; namely, adding in terrain effects, where different slots have different properties. I think I'll hold off on that idea for now if I ever use it.I do agree with everyone, though, that my battle writing was sorely underwhelming. I was trying too much to explain to the system rather than just write well, at least that is the excuse I'm using. I will certainly look up how better Quests write/do combat.
>>31532840You're focused WAY too much on mechanics. The world is living and breathing now. Treat it as such. Not everything needs numbers or values.
>>31532748>feels a bit drawn out. Adding places where we have control likeI agree that the players don't have enough input. Perhaps I should just use the "Plan+3d10" system I've seen in the other LHQ.>>31532866>You're focused WAY too much on mechanics.Yeah, you have a point, but at the same time, the quest is about being in a game (sorta), and I have a want to represent that in a manner that feels meaningful, but the current system probably isn't meaningful enough.
>>31532866This is in regards to your terrain thing. Sometimes you just need to let a story be a story.Check out some of the combat scenes in the anime and think how you would write that scene in your quest or what you could do with combat to give it some life and energy.
>>31532937Having long combat is fine, but your players need to have input in it otherwise they get restless and annoyed with only rolling dice. The "action"+dice method might not work well here since we have an entire team and a LOT of spells and mechanics at our disposal. That might get muddy.
>>31532985>That might get muddy.Right, but going full narrative would equally just make most fights trivial. If I kill the MC it's not because of bad luck or strange events it is be cause I, the QM, looked down into the thread and said, "I think he should die." Even if that's not the truth it is certainly how people might interpret it.The thing about it, though, is I have no idea how to mix my system and a narrative system.I think I'll just have to make a new system that can somehow accomplish most of my wants.
>>31533088You've got time and if you need to you can always pause the quest for a few days.Combat systems are a bitch to develop and I'd love to see you keep the card idea somehow, but sometimes things need to change to get what you and the players want/need.
>>31533088>Right, but going full narrative would equally just make most fights trivial. If I kill the MC it's not because of bad luck or strange events it is be cause I, the QM, looked down into the thread and said, "I think he should die."This is the biggest problem the questrunner Cosgrove has. He spends so much time slapping players shit for doing things; then when players get mad because they took the safe option and bad things happens he gets pissy that they're mad they got bad results from playing the quest the way they assumed he wanted them to play.HOWEVER the /tg/ dice are also evil fickle bitches. There is no winning; just degrees of failure.Take some time and sleep on it. Think about it; ask other QMs, etc.In other words, any interludes, asides, or other intel you could give us about anyone or anything in the quest that's not too spoiler-y?
>>315300399/11?Allah Akbar?

>>31533214>In other words, any interludes, asides, or other intel you could give us about anyone or anything in the quest that's not too spoiler-y?This kinda reminds me of something I've always been meaning to do at the end of one of these quests where I allow the one question to be asked any character, in which I would respond to said question as that character. Not sure how that would play out, though.Your brother isn't a slut.
>>31533313You'll have a lot of spoilers doing that, but it might be fun.Doing a QA for one character a week with the same questions and just posting that might be a way to handle things.Maybe they filled out a survey form for some free loot and these where their answers.Things like: What made you start playing your class? Sub-Class? etc.
>>31533350>Things like: What made you start playing your class? Sub-Class? etc. That could certainly be a thing, but I much prefer players having input. Maybe ask the players do make the questionnaire that will be handed out to each character to keep them from asking anything too specific?
>>31533439Eh I think you could get away with doing the questions yourself; maybe take a vote on two or three the players pick for it.
>>31533239I guess you haven't heard about this?
>>31533773I have not.I am assuming it's a table top game or something that's not the massive amazing MMO the game is in the franchise.
I took a look at Mamare's website, and apparently there's a thing going on where they're taking suggestions for equipment again. I think you have to tweet at #loghorizion a name and ability, but that's off of google.
Honestly, with regards to combat I might just go with a skills pastebin that lists the MP cost/Effect/Cooldown of our powers, list the HP/MP/status info of the combatants, and each round of combat list the most obvious choices for what we might do in that situation, with our party members doing stuff based on either their best judgement (or lack thereof) or the battle plan if we had time to plan. For example:Ambrosius, Trove, and Takeshi are fighting a pair of cacti!Ambrosius: 100/100 HP, 80/100 MPTrove: 120/150 HP, 50/70 MP, being attacked by Cactus 1, taunt on cooldown for 2 turnsTakeshi: 30/80 HP, 30/70 MP, being attacked by Cactus 2Cactus 1: 40/100 HPCactus 2: 70/100 HP[blah blah blah narrative text explaining what the fuck is happening and everyone yelling at Takeshi for being a retard and drawing aggro][ ] Use Holy Light, help Trove finish Cactus 1 off so you can both help Takeshi next round! (5MP, 20 damage, DC5 roll because Trove is tanking it and Cacti are dumb, 1 turn cooldown)[ ] Holy shit Takeshi is low, why the fuck didn't he stick to the plan? Use Heal to cure him! (5MP, heals 30, no roll required, 2 turn cooldown)[ ] Jesus tittyfucking Christ Takashi might die, run over there and use Holy Pocket Sand to save him while Trove deals with the other one. (10MP, 10 damage and [blind] each turn for 3 rounds, DC10 roll to target the spell while running, 5 turn cooldown)[ ] Do something else (write in)
Takeshi reminds me a lot of me as far as his abilities go.I'm just chilling in the back being an affliction lock; doing my dots and making sure things stay debuffed when HOLY SHIT BOSS CHARGES ME and people are yelling that I pulled threat when I was doing my damn job so we try again and I change my style up and refresh DoTs less then people yell at me that my DPS was low. This was a month before I learned that I needed to do raids to get better armor, but I couldn't do raids because my gear didn't have a high enough score so I got caught in a neat unescapable loop of inactivity. This was a month a a half before, when finally doing a raid and seeing a super rare 5% item drop I needed and lost... to the GM. Who was a tank. Because he wanted to give it to his mage alt his sister was using during the raid.I quit the game immediately after.Takeshi is an annoying faggot, but don't push him too hard. Don't let him make the same mistakes. Don't make him quit the game.
The first few threads are always rough. You'll get your sea legs soon enough. Usually around #10 is when things start happening and you're in the swing of it and you've got increased readership.Keep at it!When in doubt; check out some popular quests and see how they do things.Also:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21397476/

>>31537553Rarely used summoner ability to posess your summon. It became ALOT more useful post apocalypse since you can just run into fairy rings for exploration and effectively teleport back home instantly.
>>31538490Interesting I guess. Is there a DoT class like WoWs Warlock? I love stacking those.
THIS THREAD IS STILL UP!?>>31535976>can't understand the complaints. It's because there is no input during the combat. Sure, they could change the formation before the fight to something with a better statistical outcome or whatever, but after that point there is literally nothing for them to do but roll dice and use a potion instead of an ability.>>31537721You have formed a party, yes, but other than Canis, no one is in your friend list.>>31539513There are some classes with DoT abilities, but there is no class that I know of which can be all DoTs all the time like a Warlock. On the subject of the system, as much as I love looking at those cards, the system that I am probably going to end up using is the standard...[ ] Punch him in the face[ ] Punch him in the dick[ ] Cast Heal on self.I can't blame people for not liking the card system, though. I'd be upset too if combat was just a sequence of rolls with no input whatsoever.
>>31540532You forgot the all important[ ] Cast Heal on the Dick.
>>31540532Damn; I really liked the idea of the cards (the heart IS in them after all) but you probably made the right choice.Shame about the dot thing too; I was hoping we'd meet a happy go lucky catgirl who is a lord of pestilence. Because the "Nui" style character never gets old for me.
>>31540669>you probably made the right choice.I really hope you're right and things don't become...[ ] Attack the monster[ ] The other shit no one chooses because why would we?The idea of grinding is out the window, though. I doubt people will sit through "And then you get attacked by ANOTHER CACTUS!" And I certainly don't want to reward shit like...[ ] Grind mobs all day. With a glossed over "Oh, yeah, you totally get all the mobs and are level whatever. Congrats."Perhaps I am just being bitter, though.
>>31540747Well we are mid-level garbage right now and you don't want your quest to be just combat scenarios.Raid and all that will be fun as hell, but grinding is just that. Grinding. It's awful./tg/ prefers talking and story over combat, but if combat is fun, immerse, and filled with clutch moment it's well liked.Just remember that while numbers, spreadsheets, and min-maxing are fun and good for table tops; sometimes you need to put all of that aside for questing and be more free form.On the other hand you REALLY want to avoid power creep especially early on. So beat /tg/s face in whenever we try that.
>>31540747>With a glossed over "Oh, yeah, you totally get all the mobs and are level whatever. Congrats."That's the accurate MMO experience! Complete with dissatisfaction.
>>31540931>beat /tg/s face inI am hesitant to do this, as it could very well result in people rebelling.Sure, if they go and take on Coyote and get wrecked, no one is going to bat an eyelash, but what if a horde of goblins rise up to go wreck a town? I assume /tg/ is going to make some "We must justice!" speech and they are going to stay. What do I do then?Sure, realistically they would wreck your shit, but /tg/ could easily go on a rant about how the MC should do XYZ, ensuring victory. If I ignore the plan, I'm an asshole who just punished the players for choosing option 3 instead of option 2. If I have the plan not work, it's the exact same thing. The most I can hope for is a "You succeed, but at a cost." which over time will allow for all kinds of bullshit to happen.>>31541109Perhaps, but this makes travel far less dangerous and leveling far too easy. If every thread you can just put in "We grind till we level and then keep moving" why wouldn't you?
>>31541252>Perhaps, but this makes travel far less dangerous and leveling far too easy. If every thread you can just put in "We grind till we level and then keep moving" why wouldn't you?Because you're wrecking the fragile ecosystem of this suddenly far too real world? With horrible consequences?I'm not too into Log Horizon but that does seem like something that would happen if grinding adventurers were unleashed.
>>31541252>If every thread you can just put in "We grind till we level and then keep moving" why wouldn't you? Then make it clear that grinding takes time, sir. And make it clear that time is not unlimited. If you want to stop us from grinding at every chance, you need to give us a reason. Limited time is a really good reason, and makes for a better narrative.
>>31541252We CAN die in this quest... the results after time are often dangerous though. If the odds are insurmountable then they're insurmountable and /tg/ gets its shit pushed in. Simple as that.People may get buttblasted at how our party was unable to defend a small town from 80 marauding native american themed knights; but numbers dictate that fight was not going to go well no matter what we did for instance.Sometimes you HAVE to show your players that making stupid choices gets them fucked up. If however /tg/ lays out a plan and you think it could work; run with it and see what happens. You can always blame dice.If an idea people are rallying around won't work in this world, just say so. You can also have our little caster act as your own voice of reason. In short use your best judgement and do what you think is fun and remind players they will not succeed every single time on everything they do.
>>31541391>Limited time is a really good reason, and makes for a better narrative.>implying you don't have a time limit on something important. Not that I can tell you it, as that's metagaming and spoilers.>>31541445>diceI don't think I will use dice. Dice have the chance or turning good plans into defeat and shit plans into victory.
>>31541539A diceless quest? We CYOA now. And I can dig it.Don't be afraid to keep changing and evolving if need be.
>>31542541>We CYOA nowIs there a distinction between a Quest and a CYOA? Or is the difference mostly meaningless?I must admit, though, I hope that the lack of real mechanics will be mostly temporary until I can think of something that will make both myself and the audience happy.
>>31542667Quests tend to be more technical with players rolling dice and using stats to play. They're more like pen-and-paper tabletop games played over the internet.CYOA are more verbal. No dice are used and only player inputs (usually no customs) are given leaving nothing up to chance. Stats are rarely used. These are more like Choose Your Own Adventure books. Both ways are completely valid and lend themselves better to certain audiences and types of stories.
>>31543056Also some people use the terms interchangably because they hate you.
If you want you can always use the basics of the d20 based combat system I made. It boils down into three categories:HPAttackArmorHP is the highest stat almost always. Attack adds its value to the dice rolled while armor negates it.For instance lets say a player has 8HP, 3 Armor, and 2 Attack. The enemy has 6HP and 7 Armor. They roll an 11, so it becomes a 13. The enemies armor negates 7 points of that damage, turning the attack into a 6 which is just enough to kill the enemy.Of corse you don't have to make note of an enemies armor or other stats it may have; but it's a pretty simple system I'm happy with.Giving your character non-combat stats like Intellect for solving puzzles can also be considered. This also allows you do do inventory for your characters which I recommend since it's an MMO and what's an MMO without loot and a little micro managing.Say you get a mace that gives you +3 attack and heals you by 3 for each 3 you roll during combat.
>>31541252My two cents on that:1. Lilac is already set up to be an excellent IC mouthpiece to deliver "you're a dipshit and are going to get us all killed" warnings. By contrast, Takeshi can also serve that purpose since anything he thinks is a GOOD idea can logically be deduced to actually be a BAD one.2. Death is nothing more than a setback in this setting from a practical standpoint. The only time I could see it legitimately causing major buttfrustration is if we were like ten feet from the next hub town and Dickbutt ganks us out of nowhere sending us back to square 1.As for that specific hypothetical I could see "sacrifice our lives to give the villagers time to escape" being a legitimate plan if we really felt like going Full Paladin, not that I think we would with this character though. Not dying when we're killed means that death and success don't have to be mutually exclusive as long as the conditions for success don't hinge on "make the enemy dead before he makes you dead".
>>31545742The first time we or a party member dies there will be feels because the world is "real" so we could very well assume death is also real. And then everyone gets totally happy when that's not the case and nothing bad really happens. Or DOES it?
>>31544289Don't forget items with abilities/ activations.
>>31545788I think our character might still be operating under the assumption that it really is still a game to some extent, our internal monologues haven't changed much. That, and we saw people die during the little mini-riot when Takeshi killed the Lever and the town guards went apeshit, so the fact that people still respawn may have just been glossed over since us players all know it anyway and making a big deal about it would just be rehashing stuff covered in the first episode of the anime.
>>31546070I've only seen episodes 5 and up. Need to circle back around.
>>31540747They seem to do grinding training/ingredients gathering, though after one on-screen fight it shifts to a montage were they get the hang of things.
>>31546070I don't think it was explicitly state we saw anyone die.And I doubt that small town has a cathedral, so I don't think we saw anyone revive. And even if we did we wouldn't recognize them amongst the melee.
>>31545742>Takeshi can also serve that purpose since anything he thinks is a GOOD idea can logically be deduced to actually be a BAD one.Stop making fun of Takeshi you jerk. He's the best.
>>31546587We were in South Angel, it's explicitly a cathedral-equipped hub town.
Actually, I have a more curious point. If the admins are gone what's to stop us from actively cheating? With the way people seem to be able to break the rules with "world class magic" in the game there's absolutely no reason we can't just create an artifact that can dupe any item in the game. And I bet a new expansion has all SORTS of exploits in it.[metagaming]
>>31546664Item crafting still has level requirements and ingredient requirements.Mamare has said that making modern weapons has a requirement above the in-game level cap.Shiroe's contract to turn Rudy into an adventurer was made using a bunch of ingredients dropped by raid bosses that aren't in the game anymore and required pre-expansion max level in his sideclass to even attempt it. Same for Chefs if they attempt to cook food that has passed their level cap they just ruin all the ingredients.
>>31546664>what's to stop us from actively cheating? That's called an Overskill. Fucking everyone has one. Shit, cooking food manually is technically an Overskill because it's using a game-skill in a way that was never intended thanks to the fact that it isn't a game anymore. So really it's not cheating because it isn't a game, not any more than using aerodynamics to make gigantic hunks of metal filled with people fly across the sky at several hundred miles an hour in real life is "cheating".Seriously though people, stop thinking like it's a game you can exploit. It isn't, not any more than real life is, it just happens to run on magic rather than conventional physics.
>>31546783The only problem with that argument is that game menus are still available.
>>31546783So what would an Engineering/ Cleric overskill do?Or whatever your ultimate ability is that fuses your sub class and class.
>>31547068No, it's not even an argument, that's actually how things are. It isn't a game. All the game abstractions are just magic shit that LOOKS like game stuff.
>>31547068fucking overskillOk, it's actually world magic relating to how adventurers are a thing
>>31547112>>31547143Then why does the logout command even exist instead of being scrubbed from the universe?"But it doesn't work!" is not a valid argument.
>>31547450You can also craft from the menu.
>>31547450Because it used to be a game and then FUCKING MAGIC happened.I mean, you realize it wasn't a VR game right? It was an honest-to-god keyboard and mouse WOW/Everquest/Guild Wars/Whatever style MMO, being played on normal ass computers. Then suddenly people are inside the game, NPCs are real people, and you get early onset Alzheimers if you die too much due to the HP/MP mechanics now being tied to the metaphysics of the human soul and reincarnation. The entire point of the series is that it's a real world and not a game. Please leave familiarize yourself with the source material so you can stop bringing up stupid shit.
>>31547551For some reason I had completely forgotten it was a mouse and keyboard game...
>>31547943Yeah, that bit is pretty important. If it were VR then nobody could really be blamed for assuming that it was just a sweet new content patch that had horrible unintended consequences. It's also kinda interesting to consider that back when it was a game (or more accurately, before the game-world and the real Elder Tale world got smashed together into one with magic, which is probably what happened.), 1 real-world hour counted for 1 in-game day so characters belonging to older players who had been playing for a few years are actually centuries-old heroes with Lander records of their exploits stretching back for generations. And then one day (from the Lander perspective) every Adventurer suddenly woke up and stopped being the monster-killing economy-stimulating archtypical heroes everyone knew and loved and instead turned into a roiling mass of panicked computer gamers with superpowers.
>>31548577Ya I remember the episode where they talk about the in game time system and the legacy and all that.Honestly the whole concept is pretty damn intriguing. If they made an Eldar Tales game proper and really put the time and money into it, it could easily kill WoW.Even though it's already dying and most people are moving to mobile/ twitch style pick-up and play games...
>>31548695So what are some mmo archtypes you'd like to run into/ party up with?
>post quest conversation 1/3rd as long as actual quest
>>31548695Sadly, while the technology may be there to pull it off, the videogame industry really has no interest in big hyper-ambitious projects simply for the sake of doing something awesome when they can keep doing what they've been doing for the last decade and maintain their income stream. Not to mention the fact that after a steady stream of "WoW-killers" that flopped because they couldn't possibly compete with Blizzard's unlimited development bucks or established userbase (the most important thing in an MMO), most companies are pretty content to just let WoW have that entire section of the MMO market and make their money elsewhere.
